RICK LAUBACH WINS NJ STATE 358 TITLE

Bridgeport, NJ (11/27/2004) – Under blue skies and temperatures in the upper fifties, 57- 358 Modifieds took to New Jersey’s fastest speedway for the Saturday portion of the Great Turkey Chase. Quakertown, PA ace Rick Laubach took the top laurels in the headliner 25-lap New Jersey 358 Modified feature event. Ken Watson won the thrilling Outlaw Stock 20 lapper.

At the green of the New Jersey 358 Modified Championship race, Bechtelsville, PA driver Ray Sweinhart jumped out the lead over pole sitter Darren McCaughey and fifth starting Wade Hendrickson. Kevin Hirthler brought the action to a halt with a hard hit into the first turn guardrail. Hirthler was shaken but otherwise he was ok.

The early laps a torrid pace at the front seen Newfield, NJ Jimmy Chester take the high road picking off position after position to grab the lead from Sweinhart on the 6th lap. On the next circuit, Sweinhart began to slow as Bridgeport Speedway’s all-time leading Modified feature winner took over the runner up position. As the action was getting hotter in the front, Bill Klingmeyer made contact with the inside track tire in turn one slowing the action.

When the restart was about to be given the 2000 Modified Champ Wade Hendrickson was forced pit side with a flat tire eliminating him from the top five. Chester restarted the event but quickly found Seaford, DE ace Ricky the rocket Elliott hard on the charge. As the leader were motoring down the back straight Elliott powered the Jake Marine small block past Chester for the lead bringing along Horton for the ride. The yellow would fly for a sixth place running Richie Pratt, Jr. slowing in turn four. At the same time third place running Chester would experience a flat tire and retire to the pit area.

The restart on lap 18 had Elliott leading Horton and Quakertown, PA driver Rick Laubach in the Lincoln Auto Body car. One lap later Laubach would move past Horton for second. With the five to go sign Elliot was maintaining a comfortable lead over Laubach and Horton. Suddenly as the leader were going into turn four for the two to go signal, Elliott’s car slowed to a spot handing over the lead to a fast running Laubach in the Dieter Schmidt TEO. The last two lap shootout had Horton give one last shot at Laubach as he held off the challenges to pick up his first NJ 358 Championship win. Horton finished a close second followed by Tommy Beamer, Wade Hendrickson rebounding from his earlier flat tire and Sportsman chauffer Drew Ricco for a fine run of fifth.

The Mighty Modifieds Non-Winners main event seen the field come down for the green flag with Mark Forte, Sr. grabbing the lead followed by Mike Gular and Kyle Strickler. The race was slowed on lap three when Jason D’Allesio made contact with the turn one guardrail. During the caution period Forte, Sr. went pit side with tire troubles.

The race resumed for one lap till Ryan Godown and Joe Pulzella got together in turn two slowing the event. The restart had Strickler lead over Stephan Durand. When action continued Strickler and Durand began to wage a war for the lead till the race was again slowed for debris. As the leaders continued the battle for the top spot, Tommy Beamer and Bob Sarkisian were moving closer in third and fourth respectively.

As the race hit the halfway mark the yellow was waved again for a slowing Forte, Sr. At the same time Sarkisian dropped from his fifth place position. Strickler was still on top over Durand and an invading Norman Short.

The restart had Durand out gun Strickler for the lead and begin to pull away from the field. Short then pulled into third by Tommy Beamer. Lap 15 had Beamer experience problems and drop from the event.  Also at the same time Strickler had some trouble and made a pit stop.

As been the case of the event another problem for the front as Short stopped in turn two and then the rains came.

Stephan Durand was awarded the much deserved win over Vince Gagliando and

The Outlaw Stocks had Pat Conaway jump out the early lead over Ken Watson and the newly crowned Champ Joe Trumbetti. Conaway continued to hold a slight lead over Watson. As the leaders entered turn one on lap six Watson tried to get the advantage over Conaway using a lap car as a pick. The move was unsuccessful as Conaway pulled away to a five car advantage at lap 10.

The caution waved for a roof that became dislodged and flew onto the speedway from Trumbetti as he was running in a distant fifth. When the event was restarted, Conaway found some pressure from behind from Watson and Pat Hires in tow. The top three continued to run under a blanket when the action was halted for a roll over by Robert Baird. After the red flag, Conaway continued at the front with Watson right on his tail. As the leaders received the two to go sign Watson moved down low under a lap car and rubbed by Conaway for the lead and motored on for the win.

News from Bridgeport Speedway

The management team of Bridgeport Speedway would like to thank the fans and competitors for their support on Saturday, November 13th. The excessive amount of rainfall on Friday created havoc to the track surface. The track crew worked into the night on Saturday with no relief in sight. At 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning the track crew took to the track and by 8:00 a.m. there was no way the track surface was going to be conducive to racing. The management team at that point cancelled the weekend and reschedule for the week of the 27th. All wristbands will be honored on that weekend or the first 3 races of the 2005 season. The management team will also have a fan appreciation night scheduled for 2005 for all fans to come and experience an unforgettable night of racing.
In 2005, many changes will occur at the facility with a variety of different classes of racing and promotions and a consistent update of the facility. Thanks again for all your support.

Mark Bitner, Gene Stravinsky, Pat Conoway, Mike Hires, and Bob Lilick drove into Victory Lane at the Fastest Dirt Track in the East in the Jasper Engines/Sunoco Race Fuels sponsored events on   Sunday, October 3rd, 2004.

Fast times were recorded with John Wyers, Scott McClaren (2nd), and Jeff Davis (3rd) timing in the three fastest laps in the Sprint series.  The Sunoco Sportsman series fastest laps were turned by Drew Ricco, Mike Lyons (2nd), and Tom Miller(3rd).  Kim Cook, Pat Conoway (2nd), and Mike Burns(3rd) had the quickest times in the Super Stock division.

The Vintage Stocks were brought out on the 5/8th mile clay oval.  Decades of racing were represented, as entries from the late 50's  to the late 80's competed in the Vintage Stock Feature at Bridgeport Speedway.  Wayne Weaver drove into Victory Lane in the Vintage Stocks with his dominating performance in his first race car from 1980 .  Weaver was reminded of days past at The Fastest Dirt Track in the East. "It felt pretty good out there,it was nice coming back to Bridgeport".

Mark "Mr. Twister" Bitner won his third feature of the 2004 Jasper Sprint division in the Jasper Engines-sponsored event at Bridgeport Speedway.  He claimed the second spot in points prior to Sunday's race, finishing behind John Wyers in the final point standings.  Mark Bitner, of Florence NJ dominated the 20-lap feature on the 5/8th mile clay oval.  Bitner began lapping cars on the5th circuit and continued to do so until lap 9 when the first caution flag flew for a tangle in turn 3 that involved Douglas Suitor,Steve Struble, and Joe Thuet.  The event went another 6 laps before the second caution flew, bringing the field back together.  Shane Smithheld on to number two spot on the second restart, hoping for a shot at the lead.  Bitner closed the door once again as he led the  remaining laps, unchallenged.  The top five finishers were Mark Bitner, Shane Smith, Jim Bewley, John Wyers, and Jim Wyers.

The Sunoco Sportsman division saw its thirteenth different driver win in the2004 season at the Fastest Dirt Track in the East. Gene Stravinsky, of Cream Ridge NJ, started on the pole and took home the trophy in the 20-Lap event. It was his first career win in the Sportsman division.  Kevin Collins ran in the second spot with consistent pressure from Mike Lyons and Mark Schweibinz. On lap 9, Schweibinz stole the second position from  on Collins but only held on to it for one lap.  Mike Lyons passed Schweibinz on Lap 10 with a power move coming out of turn three.  Jim Britt benefited from Collins running high on the 18th circuit, Britt moved into the third spot as the final laps approached.

Gene "The Machine" Stravinsky was followed by Mike Lyons in second, Jim Britt in third, John Pratt in fourth, and Rich Scagliotta in fifth.   Pat Conoway proved why he had the second-fastest lap in time trials as herecorded the victory in the Super Stock division at Bridgeport Speedway. Conoway took the lead from Ralph Gargiulo on the second lap of the 20-Lapfeature.  While Conoway looked to be running away with the race, a battle for second ensued between Ralph Garguilo and Ron Coverly. Conoway kept thelead through the caution-marred event as Mike Burns worked on Garguilo and Coverly for second. Burns moved up to second place on lap 14.  5 laps later, Burns made a late-race charge for the lead, almost taking the spot from Conoway on the closing lap. Pat Conoway, Mike Burns, Ron Coverly,

Billy Pauch Jr, and John Hewett rounded out the top five in the Super Stock Division at Bridgeport Speedway.   Mike Hires fought hard for his second win of the 2004 Bridgeport Outlaw Stock season.  He started on the pole, but fell back to third after he traded paint with Pat Conoway on lap 6.  Conoway took the lead from Hires and dominated until lap twelve when Conoway  and a lapped car were involved in a wreck on the  front straightaway, Conoway relinquished the lead to Hires, and Hires never looked back.  As Hires led the pack, Joe Trumbetti stayed in the top five, knowing that was all he would need to secure his points lead for the division  title.  Hires crossed the finish line first, followed by Ken Watson, David Gould Jr, Bob Hopely, and Joe Trumbetti.  David Gould Jr's third place effort would not be enough to take over the point lead as Joe Trumbetti was crowned the Outlaw Stock champ in the post-race ceremony. Only 14 points separated the two drivers, proving how competitive this series has  been all year long.

The on-Winner's race in the Sunoco Sportsman division showcased side by side racing on every lap.  The 20-lap event featured Sportsman drivers who had not won a feature anywhere, at any track in the 2004 season.  Most of these drivers had come close throughout the season, but none had visited Victory Lane, until tonight.  Bob Lilick, of king of Prussia PA finally brought home a Bridgeport trophy, as he led the majority of the 20 lapevent. Dave Matz who started 12th, had a strong car and was running in the  top five when he spun on the frontstretch on lap 6, bringing out a caution that would send him to the back of the field. Lilick took the top spot from Dave Hunt of Bridgewater NJ on the 8th circuit, after a restart coming into turn 2.  Lilick survived several cautions andmanaged to hold off serious challenges from Bruce Hirthler.  The top five finishers in the Non-Winner's event were: Bob Lilick,  Bruce Hirthler,  Dave Hunt,  Mike Mongiello  and John Pratt.

Howard, Pratt and Bitner Feature Event Winners Saturday Night
Howard, Pratt and Wyers Crowned As '04 Season Champions

                                                                          By Randy Kane

Big block modified point championship contenders Ricky Elliott and Duane Howard headed into the action Saturday night at the Bridgeport Speedway five-eighth-mile spacious clay oval running neck and neck in a dead heat, tied for the number one position as the night began. With the eventual season-long points championship on the line at the checkered, every position was important for both drivers with an extra-distance 30-lap main event on the menu. With heat race points awarded at Bridgeport, Howard, actually, carried a two-point advantage going into the main event, but neither driver felt like the other had an edge, going into the main event, which was sponsored by Onyx Waste Services.

With the green, Carmine Infante, who started third in the 24-car field aboard the Buff Farms No. 24 entry, grabbed the top spot on lap one. By lap 2 the caution was waving, with Infante stopping in turn 4 as his right rear tire exploded. Veteran Jimmy Chester was also headed to the pits, retiring from the event after just 2-laps.

The new green saw Mark Forte Sr., who started outside of row one in the back-up Glenn Hyneman owned No. 126X car, grabbing the number one position for lap 3, with the yellow flying again. The restart showed second-generation racer Wade Hendrickson, with the Atlantic Wood Floors No. 2 mount, vaulting out on top, after starting the race from tenth spot. The yellow waved after 4-laps and once again after 5-laps were completed, with Hendrickson still in command. By lap 5, though, Duane Howard was up to second and on the move, after starting fourteenth in the primary Glenn Hyneman owned No. 126 machine.

Hendrickson retook the top spot with the green for laps 6 and 7, with another caution for Sam Wescott stopping in turn 4 after 7 circuits were in the books. Howard was still runner-up, Mike Iles was third and Ricky Elliott, who started fifteenth with the J and M Roofing and Builders No. 85 ride, now into fourth-place.

Howard advanced to the number one spot with the green for lap 8, as a three-car battle came about for second spot. On lap 9 it was Iles spinning in turn 4 all alone, steering his Larkin Automotive No. 711 entry, bringing out the caution once again.

Howard reclaimed the top spot with the restart, as Elliott moved into second on lap 10. Elliott pressured Howard, but Duane held his position, fighting off the challenges from Elliott prior to yet another caution after 14 were in the record books.

With the new green and the crossed flags to follow, Elliott powered out in front, with Howard now second. Hendrickson still was third, with the best seat in the house, as the top two point-getters slugged it out between themselves. Elliott had a slim advantage lap-after-lap and remained out in front as the laps clicked off, with Howard still runner-up. On lap 22, veteran chauffeur Fritz Epright had his No. 1 mount go up in a cloud of smoke in turn 4, bringing out the caution for the eighth time in the fray after 22 were scored.

Elliott assumed control with the green, in front of Howard, again, for laps 23 and 24, as Jamie Mills slowed in turn 1 to bring out still another yellow flag.

The green flag saw Howard give it all it had, as Duane, who previously won the Bridgeport championship in 2002, powered out in front, with Elliott falling back to number 2, battling to stay in front of Hendrickson, for lap 25. Howard remained out in front and took a crowd-pleasing victory, giving Duane the point championship as well by 6 points, over Elliott, who finished up a stout second-place in the 30-lap affair. Hendrickson held on to finish a solid third, with Stephan Durand bringing home a strong fourth-place effort, with a great run by Don Barone to finish up fifth, after starting twentieth with his D & R Boat World No. 267 machine.

Afterward, Howard, 41, revealed: "The restarts were everything tonight. Ricky certainly had more motor than we had and it was just a matter of whoever got into turn one and out of turn 2 first tonight, with all the restarts. I was glad the race finally ended and it was a great lift for the entire team. We needed a win in the worst way and tonight was the best night to get one. Ricky raced clean with me all night and I honestly don't know where that extra power came from on that last restart, but I wasn't about to settle tonight for second. No way."

For Howard, who is a resident of Oley, PA., the win was his third this season and his first since May 8, 2004, giving Duane now 18 career Bridgeport Speedway victories. It was his second career track championship at Bridgeport.

Ricky "The Rocket" Elliott submitted later: "All the cautions were make or break, tonight. We came a long way as a first-year team and we were considered out of it a couple of weeks back, when we were 30 points in back of the leaders. The guys on the team just never gave up and I'm proud of the team, my crew and the way our season turned out. We aren't going to hang our heads after this race tonight. There's no excuses. Duane ran a good race and my hat's off to those guys. They had a great year."

Defending Bridgeport Speedway sportsman division champion, Richie Pratt Jr. needed a big night, with the sportsman division running a Twin-20's program to complete the season-long points battle, Saturday night. Pratt headed into the night 9 points behind point leader Rich Stinson Jr., with both eager to grab the championship, after battling it out and trading the top spot all season long between the two top-runners. In the first 20, Pratt started eighth and Stinson started sixteenth in the highly-competitive 26-car field.

On the initial green in turns 3 and 4, Rob Pierce, Drew Ricco and Kevin Collins, all, got crossed up and brought out a caution prior to the green waving. Stinson clipped one of the spinning cars and suffered broken suspension parts on the front end, sending Rich to the pits for repairs before the 20-lap main even got going.

With the green it was Billy Harris assuming command, after starting third. Pratt quickly advanced to third on lap one and claimed second by lap 2. By lap 3 Pratt was running wheel-to-wheel with Harris and the yellow reappeared after 4 tours were completed for a piece of debris on the speedway. Rich Stinson Jr. rejoined the field at that point, returning 4-laps down, but rejoining the race to try and make up as many points and positions as possible, with a second 20-lapper still to follow.

Pratt slipped into the top spot with the new green for lap 5, as veteran Ron Roberts took over the number two position by lap 8 as Pratt started to pull away. A caution after 14-laps slowed things, but Pratt immediately took control and reclaimed the top spot with 15 completed. The Sewell, N.J., veteran simply pulled away from the competition and easily scored his ninth win of the campaign to regain the points lead. The win by Pratt increased his career win total to 34, tops in the sportsman division at the spacious raceway in south Jersey.

Rounding out the top 5 were Ron Roberts second, with Dave Hunt third, Paul Collins fourth and John Pursell fifth overall.

Rich Stinson Jr. finished up eighteenth at the checkered and dropped some 26 points in back of point leader Pratt going into the second 20 of the evening, falling to second in points.

With the green in the second sportsman 20-lapper, Don Bogey immediately took control from the pole and stayed on top of the 26-car field through the first 6 circuits, before Eric Kormann, who started ninth, ducked underneath exiting turn 4 and slipped by to take control for lap 7. A quick caution bunched the field immediately, with Bogey falling to second and Bill Klingmeyer up to third at that point.

The new green saw Richie Pratt Jr. take to the outside and power past the competition, running down the back part of the track. As the field completed lap 8, Pratt suddenly found himself out in front, with Kormann, Klingmeyer and Bogey trailing. A yellow after 9 tours regrouped the field again.

The green and the crossed flags showed Pratt in total control, out in front of Klingmeyer, Kormann and, now, Ron Roberts. By lap 14, Rich Stinson Jr. joined the top 5, after starting eighteenth. On lap 16, Mike Brannigan smacked the outside backstretch wall as he started to spin. Brannigan's car dug into the clay surface and Mike rolled the ride over at least 3 times, prior to the red stopping things. Brannigan walked away uninjured.

Again, the green and Pratt, who started fourteenth after the top 14 finishers in the first 20 were inverted, immediately pulled away. Pratt easily pulled off his second win on the night, gained his second consecutive track championship and increased his season win total to 10 for the second straight year. Pratt now has 35 career Bridgeport sportsman wins, which is tops at the track.

Offered Pratt, later: "All we thought about all week was what we had to do to win everything here tonight. I lost a 60 point lead we had here 3 weeks ago and I played it cautious in the second race, once we got out in front in the points again. Once I got up there, I was fourth on that one restart, I just figured I'd run the outside and go for it. Stinson was running good all night too. It was really very unfortunate that he got wrecked there early in that first 20, but that's happened to us a lot this season. That's racing, I guess?"

The 20-lapper for the Jasper Sprints brought along double points and that division also would see a champion crowned, once the night was done. John Wyers went into the night with a point lead of some 59 points over former modified racer Mark Bitner, but the potent Wyers No. 84 was heavily damaged in a wild flip in the first heat race. John jumped into the No. 84W normally chauffeured by his nephew, Jim Wyers, and started at the rear, with John's car unable to be repaired in time to run the feature event.

At the start it was Mike Piersig jumping out in front, after starting on the pole. Piersig held the top spot without a challenge for the first 12 circuits, leading by half a straightaway over Torrey Rose, who started outside the front row. With 12 complete a yellow was displayed for debris.

With the green, Piersig retook control, as Bitner slipped into second, after starting eighth in the 14-car field. By lap 15, Bitner got a good bite down low and dove underneath Piersig to take the top spot. Bitner easily went on to take the win and it was the second this season for "Mr. Twister," as Mark is known. A rookie this year, it was Mark's second career win at the track.

Piersig wound up second, Rose claimed third and Dave Brown was fourth at the checkered. Joe Thuet rounded out the top five.

John Wyers finished up a very cautious race in twelfth, but still won the championship by a mere 6 points at the checkered.

Said Bitner: "The restart helped out a great deal. Late, the tires got hot and we started hooking up. I just rode along with it. I had a good year and it is nice to win the feature and I am pleased with second in points. John had a good year and he earned it all. I am very happy doing so well as a first-year team."

John Wyers commented, afterwards: "My nephew helped us out a great deal. He offered his ride and I drove a cautious race. All race long I was counting spots and my nephew told me if I bend it I bought it, so I had to be careful out there." John just laughed.

It was the first career track championship for Wyers at Bridgeport.

Jimmy Horton Returns for another Bridgeport Victory

Neshanic Station’s Jimmy Horton scored his sixth feature win of the year and 111th of his career at the Bridgeport Speedway Friday night. Horton, who has never had trouble getting around the big 5/8 of a mile track, found his way into the lead just before the halfway point. He then left the field in his wake to take the 25 lap main event.

Bob Sarkisian of Woolwich Twp, who won his first heat race of the year, lead from the start up until just before the halfway point, when Horton powered passed him. While Sarkisian was looking very impressive in the early going, Doug Hoffman took a big hit in his chance for a forth modified point championship at the track as he crashed on lap 3. Hoffman fell from first to third in points. Ricky ”the rocket” Elliott made a great move to pass Sarkisian on a mid race restart, but could not catch the leader. Horton, the all time win leader at Bridgeport Speedway went unchallenged the rest of the race to take the win.

Duane Howard, who is tied with Elliott in points with only one race left, finished third. Wade Hendrickson had a strong 4th place finish after demolishing his car on Sept 11th. Rick Laubach returned for the first time since his September 2nd highway crash to finish 5th.

SHORT STORY VERSION (For radio, tv, and columnists)

Ricky Elliott, Ken Watson, and two first time winners Jon Brennfleck and Tom Miller drove into Victory Lane on Saturday, September 11th 2004 at Bridgeport Speedway.

Ricky Elliott, Jon Brennfleck, Tom Miller, and Ken Waston took the checkered flag at Bridgeport Speedway, Saturday, September 11, 2004.  Race fans witnessed some awesome racing and a touching tribute to the fallen Americans of September 11th as the National Anthem played along with Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American".  Pepsi sponsored the events at  The Fastest Dirt Track in the East.  Elliott put on a spectacular finish with a late race charge, taking the lead on the 23rd of 25 laps.  Brennfleck and Miller scored first-time victories as Jon Brennfleck took the win in the Jasper Sprints and Tom Miller brought home the win in the Sunoco Sportsman Series. During a special Saturday night visit, the Outlaw Stock Series had Ken Watson earn his 2nd Bridgeport win of the season and the 7th of his career. Bridgeport Speedway hosts the most competitive point races on both Friday and Saturday's line-ups.  The track is located in Bridgeport NJ, on 83 Floodgate Rd, just off of 295  at exit 14.  For more information on  Bridgeport and its events, call the track office at 856-467-4408 or visit the official website t www.bridgeportspeedway.net .

Ricky Elliott, of Seaford DE, was the first driver to take the checkered flag at Bridgeport Speedway as he led only one lap in the 25-lap, Pepsi-sponsored, Big Block Modified Feature.  That one lap just happened to be the one that mattered most.  Mark Forte of Blue Anchor NJ, led the early laps as he was locked into a 10-lap battle with Don Barone.  Barone of Greenbrook, NJ pulled out in front of Forte on lap 11 coming out of turn 4.  Just seconds prior to a yellow flag, Forte regained the lead as he and Barone split lapped cars on lap 14.   Kevin Hirthler of Green Lane PA, made the most of the restart when he ducked underneath Forte advancing into the lead position.  A multi-car pile up brought out the 4th caution when Wade Hendrickson was involved in a heart-stopping wreck in turn 3 on lap 15. Once confirmation that all drivers involved were  alright, the green flag flew and Hirthler led as the feature stayed green until lap 22 when Jimmy Chester who was running strong all night long, blew a tire and was forced to  pit. The closing laps brought a surprising ending when Ricky "The Rocket" Elliott made a power-move on turn one, stealing the lead from Hirthler.  Elliott secured the top spot and took home his 9th Bridgeport trophy this season. Bridgeport race fans got to see long-time veteran Don Fanslau take his last laps aroundridgeport. Fanslau of Swedesboro NJ, announced his retirement after 25 years of racing.  He will take on a new role, ascarowner for Kyle Strickler next season.  Don "Slick" Fanslau began his racing career on June 9, 1979 and passed the torch to Strickler this past Saturday night  Jon Brennfleck, of Ewing, NJ became a first time winner when he took home the Jasper Sprint trophy Saturday night at Bridgeport.  After running a consistent season in 2004, Brennfleck finally came home in the top spot in the 20-lap feature. Jack Curtis of Frazer, PA and Jeff Davis from Mt. Laurel, NJ battled for first with Curtis leading the field for  16 laps.  While Curtis led, Jon Brennfleck ran in the top ten, preparing for his charge on the 17th circuit.  Brennfleck and Curtis fought side by side on the back straightaway  until Brennfleck outraced Curtis in the final laps.  Brennfleck drove into 92.5 WXTU Victory Lane for the first time at Bridgeport NJ, excited to claim his first career win at   The Fastest Dirt Track in the East. .

Tom Miller became the second first-time winner at Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday, September 11, 2004. Better known as "Elvis", Miller was noticeably elated to earn his trip to the winner's circle.  "Finally!  That feels good" Miller declared in his post-race  interview.  Miller led all 20 laps in the Sunoco Sportsman feature but not without some challenges during the very first lap.  After 3 consecutive restarts before one lap could be recorded, Tom Miller exercised his ability to get out front on each restart.  Once the race was underway, Miller  demonstrated just how bad he wanted the win.  Point leader Richie Pratt Jr got caught up in 2 of the 3 cautions on the first lap, putting him in the back on the restarts.  Kevin Collins, hailing from Laurel, DE, fought his way through the pack taking the third spot from Bill Klingmeyer on lap 17.  A  three car battle for 2nd ensued  on lap 18, between Klingmeyer, Collins andRon Roberts.  The final laps allowed Collins to take 2nd while Miller enjoyed crossing the finish line first.

The Outlaw Stock division made a special Saturday night run at Bridgeport Speedway.  In a 20-lap feature, the lead was shared between two different drivers, Ken Watson and  Brian Ludwig.  Brian Ludwig led for the first 13 laps as Watson worked his way up to the back of Ludwig's bumper.  Watson got by Ludwig on a restart on lap 14.  A 6-car battle for the top spots began on the following lap as Watson barely crossed the finish line after turning sideways out of turn 4 on the last lap.  Watson managed to hold on to the lead and scored his 2nd win of the Bridgeport 2004 season.  This was Ken Watson's 7th career win at Bridgeport.

Tom Hager of West Easton, PA, took full advantage of a new sponsor and a new race car this past Saturday Night at Bridgeport Speedway.  In the first of twin 20's, Hager was the class of the field, outgunning a late race charge from  "Jammin" Jamie Mills.  Tom Hager started on the pole and held onto the lead for the majority of the event.  Jimmy Chester moved from 9th   to 2nd in four laps, setting the pace for his challenge on lap 10 with a move to the outside of turn 4.  He outraced Hager for only three laps as Hager proved to have the best car, taking the lead back by lap 14 when Chester had mechanical problems and was forced to pit. For the remaining 5 laps, Hager kept the checkered flag in sight and crossed the finish line just inches in front of Jamie Mills.  Mills hoped for more laps but came up short as Tom Hager scored his first win at Bridgeport Speedway since August 9,1997.

Doug Hoffman of Allentown PA, survived several cautions to claim the victory in the second Twin-20 Modified Feature.  He started eleventh, but quickly moved up front along with Wade Hendrickson who led for the first 10 laps. Hoffman used the outside for several laps, doing whatever he could to get past Hendrickson.  On the second restart on lap 10, Hoffman and Hendrickson tangled after Hoffman bolted out ahead of Hendrickson to take the lead. Both drivers recovered from the battle, as Hendrickson made a beautiful save in going into turn 4.  Lap 16 showcased a three car brawl for third between  Wade Hendrickson, Steve Durand, and Duane Howard ensued as the white flag came out. Mike Iles came in second after battling Doug Hoffman earlier in the race.  Hoffman collected his 8th win of the 2004 Big Block Modified Season, tightening the point standings within the Big Block Modified Series.

Sean Carman became a first time winner in the Sunoco Sportsman division, just a few days after recording his first non- oints win at Bridgeport in a special "Non-Winner's Event" this past Thursday, September 2nd..  Carman in  is second season in the Sportsman division, called his win "A dream come true" as he proved he has the ability to get around "The Fastest Dirt Track in the East". Carman, hailing from Stockton NJ started 6th and took only one lap to get to the second spot, making the most of an early-race restart. John Britt of Milford DE, led until Carman used yet another restart to blow by Britt, taking over the race from there on out. Lap 9 brought bad luck to some of Bridgeport's top guns as Richie Pratt Jr, Kevin Collins, and Mark Forte Jr were involved in front stretch pile up.  Sean Carman dominated the rest of  the event followed by John Britt in second, Drew Ricco in third.

Bridgeport Speedway saw another first time winner in the Jasper Sprint division on Saturday, September 4, 2004.  Scott McClaren drove into Victory Lane for the first time   in his Sprint career at Bridgeport Speedway, holding off Bob Rasmussen in the early laps and surviving late challenges from Jim and John Wyers.  Total domination described    McClaren's race-winning effort as he led all but 3 laps of the 20 lap event.  The battle for second heated up as the closing laps approached.  Jim and John Wyers were neck and neck for the last 5 circuits with Jim Wyers taking second as John Wyers settled for third.  McClaren became the 10th different winner in the Jasper Sprint Division  making the points race tighter than ever.

SHORT STORY VERSION for Radio, TV, and Columnists

Jimmy Horton, Richie Pratt Jr and Sean Carman drove into Victory Lane at Bridgeport Speedway this past Thursday night for the Walt Chernokal Tribute event that included a visit from the DIRT Southeast series.    92.5 WXTU was on hand for the JD3Graphics-sponsored Walt Chernokal Tribute at Bridgeport Speedway where Richie Pratt Jr, Jimmy Horton and Sean Carman visited victory lane at the Fastest Dirt Track in the East.  The DIRT  Southeast Series visited Bridgeport for another round of competitive racing in the Big Block Modified division.  Walt Chernokal was appropriately honored at Bridgeport Speedway, the track his family deemed his home during the Press  Box Dedication that preceded the DIRT Southeast Series 40-Lap feature.  Every Big Block Modified driver shook the Chernokal family's hands as they climbed into their racing machines.  Earl Krauss of Area Auto Racing News thanked the management and fans at Bridgeport Speedway for the meaningful tribute to the life-long motor sportswriter, photographer and  former public relations representative.  "Since 1969, up until the last few weeks of  his life, Walt was a key member of our staff and a member of Bridgeport's extended family."  Chernokal's daughter Ann expressed her family's gratitude, "We appreciate this, he's looking down from heaven with his thumbs up." Bridgeport Speedway will make the Walt Chernokal Tribute an annual event, honoring the man who helped make Bridgeport what it is today.

Richie Pratt Jr scored his 8th win of the Sunoco Sportsman Bridgeport 2004 season while Jimmy Horton collected his 5th Bridgeport win in the Big Block Modified 2004 season.

The Sportsman series also saw a first-time winner in the "Non-Winner" 20-lap feature when Sean Carman crossed the finish line first.  Bridgeport Speedway is located on 83 Floodgate Rd in Bridgeport NJ, just minutes off of 295 at exit 14.  For more information, visit Bridgeport's official website at www.bridgeportspeedway.net   or call the
track office at 856-467-4408.

Jimmy Horton Jr, a resident of Neshanic Station NJ, collected his 110th career Bridgeport  Victory, outracing the JD3Graphics DIRT Southeast Series big-guns who invaded the 5/8th mile clay oval.  Horton's had significant success in recent weeks at Bridgeport Speedway, earning 4 straight Friday Night Big Block Modified wins.  Horton was able to run away with the win after his dominating run ended when he had a tire go down on lap 14 of the 40 laps. Jimmy Horton commented on his 5th win this season, noting how Frank Cozze's misfortune was just part of his victory. "It was being lucky and good, I found a groove we liked." The battle for second heated up with Bridgeport regulars Doug Hoffman and Duane Howard ran side by side for several laps. Howard held on to his runner-up effort as Hoffman faded in the closing laps.

Richie Pratt Jr. of Sewell, NJ brought home his 8th trophy of the Bridgeport Sunoco Sportsman 2004 Season. Gene Stravinsky led the pack in the early laps, loosing the top spot to Rich Stinson Jr. on the tenth lap.  As Stinson Jr.  moved in for the kill, Richie Pratt  Jr took advantage and shot into the second position.  Stinson Jr. and PrattJr. battled neck and neck for several circuits, with Pratt Jr. taking over on lap 12.  As the closing laps rounded out, Stinson Jr. found the groove that closed the gap between him and race leader Richie Pratt Jr.  Rich Stinson Jr gave it his all, but came up just inches short, as Pratt Jr. scored his 8th win of the season.  Bridgeport fans were treated to a spectacular finish as Richie "Last Lap" Pratt was given a dose of his own medicine with a last-lap challenge from Rich Stinson Jr.. Stinson Jr. is just 43 points behind Pratt Jr. for the Sunoco Sportsman Points Championship.

Sean Carman of Stockton, NJ, rode into the winner's circle for the first time at Bridgeport  Speedway in the 20-Lap "Non-Winner" Sportsman event. Any Sportsman driver who had not won a feature in the Sportsman series at any track was invited to participate in the  "Non-Winner" Feature during the Walt Chernokal Tribute event.  Dave Hunt led briefly before Sean Carman proved he was a force to be reckoned with by the third circuit.  Carman passed Hunt for the lead on turn three, using the inside line.  As Hunt drifted back to the third spot he found himself in a  side by side battle with Eric Kormann.  Kormann won the brawl and secured his spot in the top five.  Meanwhile, Sean Carman began to run away with the race until Gene Stravinsky outgunned Carman and Kormann on a restart, catapulting himself into the lead.  His stint in the top spot was brief but gave  Carman a legitimate run for his money.  Stravinsky finished in the secondspot, followed by Eric Kormann in third.

Doug Hoffman scores two feature wins in the Triple 20’s at Bridgeport Speedway Saturday July 3, 2004.

Allentown PA resident Doug Hoffman added two more notches in the win column this Saturday night as he recorded his 4th and 5th wins of the 2004 season.  After winning features on June 26th and June 29th, it’s safe to say he’s on a roll.  Neither victory came without a battle, but he survived pressure from Duane Howard and Wade Hendrickson to make it 2 out of three for the night. In both features, he charged through the field, making the most out of the racetrack.  Doug Hoffman looks to be a man on a mission this season, proving he’s championship caliber.

The first feature finishing order was; Doug Hoffman, Duane Howard, Jimmy Chester, Kevin Hirthler and Jamie Mills.

The third Big Block Modified Feature finished as follows; Doug Hoffman, Wade Hendrickson,  Ricky Elliot,  Duane Howard, and Rick Laubach.

Rick Laubach adds another Big Block Modified victory to his resume in the Triple 20’s at Bridgeport Speedway.

In between Doug Hoffman’s twin victories, Rick Laubach from Quakertown PA, earned his own turn in Victory Lane as he collected win number 2 this season and career victory number nine at Bridgeport Speedway. He made a power move for first place on lap 9, taking the lead from Mike Iles. On lap 11, Ricky “The Rocket” Elliott and Wade “The Flying Farmer” Hendrickson raced side by side for second place.  Laubach began lapping traffic on lap 15, paving the road to victory for the #93.  Rounding out the top five were;   Rick Laubach, Ricky Elliott, Mike Iles, Wade Hendrickson, and Troy Ale.

Paul Collins becomes another first time winner Saturday July 3, 2004.

Paul Collins brought home his first Sunoco Sportsman Feature trophy during the 25-Laprace at Bridgeport Speedway.  Paul Collins of Laurel, Delaware survived a multi-car wreck that began when Drew Ricco flipped on the 8th lap.  Collins held on for the win as he  outraced Kevin Collins on the closing laps to secure his first career feature win at Bridgeport Speedway.  Kevin Collins finished in 2nd place as John Pursell scored a third place run.  Tom Miller  took home fourth as  Mike Hughes rounded out the top five.

Chip Brown takes home the Jasper Sprint Division win at Bridgeport Speedway.

Chip Brown in the number 22, led early but had his share of challenges in his Jasper Sprint victory on Saturday July 3rd at Bridgeport.  Brown, a Pennsville resident held off guys like Jeff Foote and Dave Brown as Foote and Brown and Jon Brennfleck were tangled in a 3 car battle for second place on lap 7.  Jeff Foote won the battle for second as he began closing the gap between him and leader Chip Brown on lap 9 of the 25 lap event.  Foote would settle for 2nd place as Chip Brown held on for the win.  Rounding out third to fifth place was; Jon Brennfleck, Dave Brown, and John Wyers.

Doug Hoffman backs up last weekend’s flawless victory with a surprising come-from behind- win at CarQuest Auto Parts Night at Bridgeport Speedway.

The Big Block Modified 25-lap feature event winner was decided on the last turn of the last lap during CarQuest Auto Parts Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Tuesday June 29, 2004. Kenny Brightbill appeared to have his first win since 1997 until Duane Howard’s wreck on turn 3 brought out the caution, gathered the field and gave Doug Hoffman a shot at the win. “The Invaders” proved to be quite a challenge for the locals as the DIRT Southeast series drivers took on the Bridgeport regulars. The night was jam packed with action along with a heartfelt remembrance of the old days at Flemington Speedway with former promoter Paul Kuhl on hand for the night’s festivities.

Bridgeport regular Jammin Jamie Mills started on the pole, held the position for 6 laps and dropped out of the race on lap 7. Brightbill took the lead on the same lap with a dominating move on the front straightaway. He ran away from the rest of the pack while a tough battle for 3rd broke out between Rick Laubach, Ricky Elliott, and Duane Howard.

As the final lap drew closer, Doug Hoffman planned his attack on Kenny Brightbill. As the two leaders raced wheel to wheel coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, Hoffman crossed the finish line running outside of Kenny Brightbill. Hoffman won his third feature event at Bridgeport this past Saturday night and backed it up with a spectacular finish in the Bridgeport Modified Non-Point event Tuesday evening.

The top five in the CarQuest Auto Parts Big Block Modified event were: Doug Hoffman, Kenny Brightbill, Ricky Elliott, Jimmy Horton, and Mike Iles.

Sam Wescott wins big in the Sportsman Division at Bridgeport during Car Quest Auto Parts Night, Tuesday June 29th.

Sam Wescott took the lead from pole sitter Paul Collins on lap 3 of the 25 lap feature, using the inside line to his advantage. Richie Pratt Jr loomed in third place just waiting for his chance to lead. Pratt and Wescott battled side by side for the lead on lap 9 as a 4 car scuffle involving Paul Collins, Ron Roberts, Rich Stinson, and Bob Lineman waged for the third spot on turns 1 and 2. Lap 13 found Pratt suffering from mechanical failure as his second place sportsman smoked it’s way into the pit area. Wescott enjoyed a half-of-a-straightaway lead while Rich Stinson stole second place from Ron Roberts. Sam Wescott’s third feature win of the season was locked in as the final laps were counted.

Rounding out the top five were; Sam Wescott, Rich Stinson, Ron Roberts, Paul Collins and Mike Hughes.

Brian Seidel collects win number 4 when the URC Sprints visited Bridgeport Speedway for Car Quest Auto Parts night on Tuesday June 29, 2004

July 17
Brian Seidel was once again the class of the field with this 4th win of the Advanced Auto Parts URC Sprint 2004 season. The lead was shared between a few different drivers,

keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. Randy West led the field on lap 1 and continued in the top spot for 7 laps. West would be the first of many race leaders to have mechanical problems throughout the night. His misfortune on lap 7 handed the lead over to Ed Aikin. Aikin held on the lead for a few laps with Sean Michael, Dave Ely, and Kevin Welsh not too far behind him. On lap 13, Kevin Welsh flew by Aikin with Dave Ely in tow for second. The lead would switch between Welsh and Ely for several more laps. As the final laps approached, Kevin Welsh would become another leader to suffer mechanical problems, taking him out of the race and giving Dave Ely a chance to catch his breath. As the white flag flew and Dave Ely came around turn 3 fans watched as the Dave Ely, the race leader lost the steering in his vehicle. He hit the wall hard and flipped over, causing significant damage to his car. Fortunately, Dave Ely was uninjured. Brian Seidel who had a strong run in the top five for most of the night would cross the finish line first. He was followed by Dave McGough in second, Ed Aikin in third, Sean Michael in fourth and Jason Claus in fifth.

CARQUEST Auto Parts Presents The BIG SHOW 5-25's  At Bridgeport Tuesday. . . . .

DOUG HOFFMAN WINS DIRT SOUTHEAST MODIFIED FEATURE

BRIAN SEIDEL TOPS URC, RAY BULL WINS ARDC, SAM WESCOTT TAKES  SPORTSMAN &  GARY HUNTER SCORES  MICRO WIN

BRIDGEPORT, NJ  JUNE 29, 2004  .  .   .   .  .   .   Allentown, PA's Doug Hoffman waited until the next to last lap of the DIRT Southeast Big Block Modified feature event to make his move on Kenny Brightbill, taking the win at Bridgeport Speedway on Tuesday night.   The COMDIAL Telephone Communications DIRT Southeast Modified Series was part of the CARQUEST Auto Parts BIG SHOW V, which was a features only program with 5-25 lap main events, showcasing five different divisions,  run on two tracks over the course of the night.  In other action at the track, Brian Seidel won the United Racing Club main event on the big 5/8th mile speedway, with Ray Bull taking his sixth win of the season in the wingless ARDC midget feature, which was run on the Ľ mile oval located on the front stretch of the big track.  Sam Wescott went home the victor in the Sportsman feature, while Gary Hunter took the checkers in the 600cc Micro Sprint main event which also was contested on the Ľ mile oval.  It was a great night of "features only" racing that was completed by 10:15 PM.

This BIG SHOW event  also honored past Bridgeport Speedway Owner/Promoter and Promoter of the Flemington Fair Speedway Paul Kuhl.  Sammy Beavers, Glenn Fitzcharles and Ken Brenn JR were on hand to "roast" this very popular racing figure on Purple & White Night at Bridgeport Speedway.   Kuhl was presented with a gift certificate to his favorite eating establishment on behalf of track Promoter Dave Adams and DIRT Southeast Organizer Bob Miller.

With 22 Big Block Modifieds taking the green flag in the DIRT Southeast Series tour event, the front row of Jamie Mills and Kenny Brightbill led the field into the first turn, with Mills charging into the lead.  Mills controlled the point, while Brightbill had his hands full holding off Quakertown, PA's Rick Laubach, who was in a brand new modified.    Lap six saw Brightbill, driving his familiar #19, run down Mills with the two charging side by side on the backstretch.  Mills night would end one lap later, after mechanical problems saw the leader slam into the wall in turn one.

On the restart, Laubach again tried to work his way past Brightbill, but the veteran from Sinking Springs, PA powered his way to a comfortable lead, with Doug Hoffman using every inch of New Jersey's fastest dirt track to move into the runner-up position.   Hoffman was slowly cutting into Brightbill's lead, and with just five laps remaining, Hoffman got the break he needed, with the caution flag coming out for Duane Howard, who stopped in turn four with front suspension failure.

Running under DIRT Southeast Series rules, a double-file restart was used, with Brightbill choosing to take the outside pole position for the start.  Brightbill again took the lead, but Hoffman stayed right on him, never letting the leader get more than a car length away.  After receiving the two to go sign, Hoffman closed in on Brightbill, and the leaders raced side by side down the full length of the backstretch.  Hoffman used the outside groove in turn 3 to pull into the lead with his Overhead Doors #0.

The big crowd on hand were out of their seats and on their feet cheering as the two ran through turns three and four on the last lap,  door to door.   Brightbill made a slingshot attempt to pass Hoffman as the two entered the homestretch.  Hoffman out-powered Brightbill to the finish line, taking his first ever DIRT Southeast Modified victory of the season.  Brightbill was a close second, with Ricky Elliott, Jimmy Horton, and Mike Illes rounding out the top five.

Opening the features only program was the Last Chance DASH, an eight car eight lap event for the modifieds that was won by G.R. Smith.

DIRT SOUTHEAST SERIES FEATURE - 25 LAPS
1.  0-DOUG HOFFMAN, 2. 19-Kenny Brightbill, 3. 85-Ricky Elliott, 4. 5-Jimmy Horton, 5. 711-Mike Illes, 6. 5-Keith Hoffman, 7. 88-Jeff Strunk, 8. 58-Shawn Reimert, 9. 15R-Donny Radd, 10. 12-Mike Franz, 11. 16-Kyle Strickler, 12. 72-Jeff Ebersole, 13. 100-Tom Pompei, 14. 93-Rick Laubach, 15. 126-Duane Howard, 16. 117-Kevin Hirthler, 17. 44-Jimmy Chester, 18. 2GR-G.R. Smith, 19. 40-Mark Forte, 20. 30-Jamie Mills, 21. 1-Billy Pauch  DNS-Kerry Kratz.

In the URC Sprint feature, it was another thriller with Brian Seidel of Allentown, PA taking the win in the twenty-five lap main event.  For Seidel, it was his fourth URC win of the season and fifteenth career URC win.    Randy West was the early race leader, setting the pace for the first seven laps before Ed Akin took the top spot.   Aikin remained in command through lap fourteen with Dave Ely going to the point on lap fifteen.  Kevin Welsh became the next challenger, taking the lead on lap  twenty-one with Ely regaining the top spot just one lap later.   As the field passed for the next lap, mechanical problems brought the Welsh sprinter to a stop in the infield eliminating his shot at a victory.

The race continued and now Seidel was in chase of the leader.  Seidel closed in the final laps but then mis-fortune struck the leader as a steering problem sent the Dave Ely sprint into the fourth turn wall and violently flipping on the final lap.   Ely did walk away uninjured but his sprint car was badly damaged.  Seidel became the new leader  and ran unchallenged for the final  circuit taking the win over Dave McGough, Ed Aikin,, Sean Michael, Jason Clauss, Jon Eldreth, Josh Weller, Kramer Williamson,  Joe Zuczek, Dave Ely, Kevin Welsh, Tim Hogue, Scott Pursell, Randy West,  Trevor Lewis, Chris Coyle.

The ARDC Winless Midgets performed on the Ľ mile speedway, running their 25 lap feature event.    It took Ray Bull just three laps to crack the top five from his eleventh starting spot, and five laps later the defending ARDC Champion thrilled the fans with a banzai move through turns one and two to pass Don Trent II and leader Dave Shirk in one swift move.  Bull knifed his way through traffic the rest of the way to get his sixth win of the 2004 season and 28th career ARDC victory.  Trent finished in the runner up spot, with Shirk, a rookie with the club, getting his best ever finish, coming home third.  Frank Polimea and Michelle Miller rounded out the top five, with Steve Craig, Mike Miller, Scott Zipp, Tracey Miller, and Jack Spence completing the top ten.

Also on the program was the 600 Micro Sprints with Gary Hunter taking the win leading the event wire-to-wire.  Hunter held off numerous challenges from Tim Iulg to take win.  Following Hunter to the finish was Iulg, Rick Stief, Glenn Heverin and Rob Vivona made up the top five.

Doug Hoffman stays out of trouble and claims victory in Hooters Restaurant Modified event at Bridgeport Speedway. Doug Hoffman of Allentown PA had few challenges during the 35-lap Hooters Restaurant Big Block Modified event on Saturday June 26, 2004. He survived  a handful of multi-car pileups to claim his 3rd feature victory of the 2004 season.  Hoffman gained the top spot on lap 13 as he took the inside line to overcome pole  sitter Phil Vasquez. The two raced neck and neck for several laps.    Jamie Mills, who had a strong car, and recent feature winner Rick Laubach got   caught in a ten car tangle on the front back stretch in the early laps. A tough battle   between the 12 car of Mike Franz and the heavily damaged car of “Jammin” Jamie  Mills brought out the yellow as neither driver attempted to lift out of the corner   of turn 3. Both drivers would recover from the spin to finish in the top ten.    Steve Durand, Mark Forte, and John Townsend all had career best finishes   coming in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Durand came to life on lap 29 to take the second    spot from Wade Hendrickson who suffered from mechanical problems late in the race.

The top five finishers were: Doug Hoffman, Steve Durand, Mark Forte, Jamie Mills, and John Townsend.

Saturday June 26, 2004-

Bridgeport fans watched 14 laps of fast and furious  racing until the first caution came out when Chip Brown and Steve Schmidt  spun out in turn 1. Steve Fleetwood charged through the pack stealing fifth  position from Mark Bitner on Lap 15.Bitner and Fleetwood would battle for  the remainder of the race as Bitner finished 4th while Fleetwood settled for 6th. Wyers became the fourth different winner in victory lane in the Jasper  Sprint Division, joining fellow competitors Steve Schmidt, Mark Bitner, and  Jim Bewley. On the CARQUEST BIG SHOW V race card will be the DIRT Southeast Big Block Modifieds, the URC Sprints, ARDC Wingless Midgets, Sportsman Stock Cars and the 600cc Micro Sprints each racing in a 25 lap feature.  You'll see five divisions of racing on two different tracks all in one night.  Race time is scheduled for 7:30 PM with gates opening at 5 PM.    A special added attraction is a roast of former Bridgeport Speedway Owner/Promoter and Flemington Fair Speedway Promoter Paul Kuhl.  Several drivers, officials and friends of  the glory days of Flemington will be at Bridgeport Speedway to roast and honor one of the most colorful and successful Promoters in the Northeast on Purple & White Night at Bridgeport.

The CARQUEST BIG SHOW V is a really BIG SHOW that will direct attention to the feature events and eliminate the hours of qualifying usually necessary to present a show of this status.  The program will open with the Last Chance DASH, a 10 lap event for the Big Block Modifieds that will find eight cars advancing to the 25 lap DIRT Southeast  Modified feature.

The next event on the program will be the 25 lap 600cc Micro Sprint Feature that will take place on the Bridgeport Speedway Quarter Mile dirt oval.   The Sportsman will take to the "big track", for their 25 lap feature event followed by the ARDC Wingless Midgets as they battle on the Bridgeport Quarter Mile.  The always exciting and entertaining URC sprints will answer the call as the fourth feature of the night, competing in their 25 lap feature on the five-eighth mile track.  The nightcap event will showcase the Big Block Modifieds in a 25 lap contest on the "big track".

Fans will see more then 100 race cars, including Modifieds, Sprints, Wingless Midgets, Sportsman and Micro-Sprints competing on two different race tracks and you'll never have to leave your seat!  This is a must see event on your schedule of races in 2004.

The starting fields for the Sportsman, URC Sprints, ARDC Wingless Midgets and Micro-Sprints are  based off current point standings as of June 13 with the top 12 in points being inverted for the feature line.    For the Big Block Modifieds, the top eight in DIRT Southeast Points and the top eight drivers in Bridgeport Modified points will start the feature inverted in the top sixteen starting positions.  Eight cars will advance to the feature from the Last Chance DASH that will open the show at 7:30 PM.  Twenty-four modifieds will start the 25 lap feature event.

This is a big event and an appropriate show to honor the legendary promoter Paul Kuhl.  Over the years, Mr. Kuhl was influential in the success of the Modifieds, Sportsman, URC Sprints and ARDC Midgets.  Kuhl was also a previous owner and promoter of the Bridgeport Speedway and brought success and stability to the South Jersey oval.   Special guests that will roast Paul Kuhl include  and drivers Sammy Beavers, Tony Sesely, Stan Ploski, Bobby Pickell, Ken Wismer,  Kenny Brightbill, Glenn Fitzcharles, Ken Brenn Jr., Ken Brenn Sr and Billy Pauch just to name a few.  Fans from the Flemington Speedway and those wishing to salute Paul Kuhl are asked to wear the purple and white colors that were so noticeable at the famous Flemington Fair Speedway.   All fans wearing purple and white or any Flemington race wear (t-shirts, jackets, hat) will receive a raffle ticket for a drawing of special gifts.    Let's remember the great days of the Flemington Fair Speedway at the  "new" Bridgeport Speedway next Tuesday night.

Enjoy a great night of racing at the recently renovated Bridgeport Speedway.   The speedway offers free parking, great seating with unobstructed view of the speedway from every seat.  Plus,  a new public address system, clean and comfortable rest rooms and great food and concessions all located in the spacious Grandstand Midway.   At Bridgeport Speedway, you'll be entertained from the time you enter the gate, not just when the racing action begins!

The all new Bridgeport Speedway is determined to make the track not only the fastest track in Jersey, but also the best.

Friday June 25th- There will be no Friday night racing at Bridgeport Speedway due to the scheduled events of Tuesday June 29th

Saturday June 26th- Bridgeport will host another full docket of racing on Saturday June 26th.  Race fans can look forward to a 35-lap Modified feature, 25-lap Jasper Sprint feature, 25-lap Sunoco Sportsman feature, and the Sportsman Rookie Championship event. It all starts at 7:00pm.

Tuesday June 29th-CARQUEST Auto Parts and Bridgeport Speedway have a big night of racing planned on Tuesday June 29th with the popular Bridgeport’s 5-25’s, a five division features-only racing program.  On the Big Show V race card will be the DIRT Southeast Series Big Block Modifieds, the URC Sprints, ARDC Midgets, Sportsman Stock Cars, and the 600cc Micro Sprints, all competing for 25 laps each.  Within one night, spectators will get to see 5 divisions race on two different race tracks.  Events are scheduled to begin at 7:30pm with gates opening at 5pm.  Come out to roast former Bridgeport Speedway Owner/Promoter and Flemington Fair Speedway Promoter Paul Kuhl.   Reminisce with drivers, officials, and friends of Flemington and honor one of the best promoters the sport has ever seen.

THE THIRD TIME IS A CHARM FOR RICKY “THE ROCKET” ELLIOTT WITH  ANOTHER FEATURE WIN THIS SEASON.

Seaford Delaware’s Ricky “The Rocket” Elliott made it three in a row at Bridgeport Speedway this past Saturday night, June 19th, 2004.  He recorded his 5th victory of the season and his 29th career when he took the top spot from Brian Truppi off of the restart on lap 9 of 25.

Tom Hager had the pole, holding on to the position for 2 laps when Bob Sarkisian rolled past him running on the inside of turn 3. Meanwhile, Kyle Strickler battled Tom Hager for 3rd, as Brian Truppi sat back planning his attack for the lead.  Truppi took the lead from Sarkisian off the restart on lap 7.  Truppi set the pace for only 2 more laps as eventual winner Ricky Elliott took over on lap 9.  Elliott never looked back as he maintained a half of a straightaway lead over the rest of the pack.  Following Elliott in the top five positions were: Rich Laubach in 2nd, Jimmy Chester for 3rd, Duane Howard in 4th, and Kyle Strickler in 5th. 4 out of the top 5 finishers are also in the top ten in point standings for the Big Block Modified Division, sponsored by Boeing International.

DAN COGDILL TAKES HOME THE TROPHY IN SUNOCO SPORTSMAN SERIES
 AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Dan Cogdill from Pedricktown NJ earns win number 6 in Sunoco Sportsman Series at Bridgeport Speedway on June 19th , 2004.  He led every lap but the first, taking the lead from polesitter Sean Carman.  Carman had a strong car all night, but seemed to have nothing left for Dan Cogdill.  After weeks of bad luck, Cogdill finally struck gold in the Sportsman 20-lap feature.

An early caution set up Cogdill’s dominance when he grabbed the lead from Carman after a restart on the first lap.  Behind Cogdill and Carman’s battle, waged an all out war for the third spot that included Tom Miller, Christopher Christ and  Sam Wescott.  Rich Stinson, the series point leader charged through the field showing in the top five by the 5th lap  It was only a matter of time before Richie “Last Lap” Pratt Jr hammered into the front of the pack, appearing in the top five on Lap 11.  He stole two positions on lap 12, out racing Stinson and John Purcell who had worked each other over for 10 laps.  Pratt closed in on Cogdill with 5 laps remaining but would settle for second as the checkered flag waved. The top five finishers were: Dan Cogdill, Richie Pratt Jr, Sean Carman, John Purcell, and Rich Stinson.

ROOKIE JIM BEWLEY SCORES VICTORY IN ONLY HIS  FIFTH SPRINT FEATURE

Bridgeport hosted the first victory for Jim Bewley in the Jasper Sprint Series on Saturday June 19th.  He started on the pole and never gave any other competitor a chance throughout the 20 lap event.  Bewley raced more like a veteran than a rookie at Jersey’s fastest track this Saturday.  While he worked the entire track to hold on to the lead, there was plenty of spot-swapping going on for the top 5 positions. Matt Beasley, Steve Fleetwood, and Jeff Davis raced three wide on lap 2 later inviting Jon Brennfleck into the party on the next lap, making it a 4 car battle for the fifth position.  Mike Piersig and Shane Smith lined up neck and neck for several laps, making good use of the 5/8th clay oval.  Rounding out the top five had  Joe Thuet in 2nd, Matt Beasley in 3rd,  Shane Smith in 4th and Jon Brennfleck in 5th.

ELLIOTT BLASTS TO FOURTH BRIDGEPORT WIN

Bridgeport, N.J. -  June 12, 2004 Ricky Elliott of Seaford, DE raced to his 4th  victory of the season in the 25 lap Big Block Modified feature Saturday night at Bridgeport Speedway.   Elliott started the feature from the fifteenth position and wasted no time in working his way to the top five, taking the lead from Steve Durand at the mid point of the race, to score career win number 28 at the South Jersey oval.

Brian Truppi took the early lead in the main event until being overtaken by a strong running Durand.  Durand then built up a sizeable lead during a long stretch of green flag racing, while Elliott was battling through the pack.   A great battle was raging mid pack between Duane Howard, Rick Laubach, Wade Hendrickson and Doug Hoffman, with Hoffman finally advancing to second place just before a late yellow with 6 laps to go.   The double file restart, a new feature this season until 2 to go, put Hoffman along side Elliott on the restart.   Elliott pulled away on the restart, with no challenge from anyone to score the win.  Following the winner at the line was Hoffman, Howard , Laubach and Hendrickson to complete the top five.  Durand had his best run of the year in sixth, followed by Kevin Hirthler, Mike Iles, Don Barone and Kyle Strickler.

Heats for the 39 Modifieds on hand were won by Ricky Elliott, Brian Truppi and Steve Bottcher, with the consi won by Carmine Infante.

Sam Wescott Jr. of Grenloch, N.J romped to his second win of the season in the 20 lap Sportsman feature.   Wescott was the winner on Opening Day and second the next week, before having a streak of bad luck saw him not finish a race for the next month.   Wescott took the lead early and was never headed, despite a late yellow with four laps to go put John Pursell right behind him.   Pursell had to contend with a late charging Drew Ricco, who stole second on the last lap.

While Wescott was leading up front, the rest of the field was involved in a tremendous battle for the top ten positions.   There was a four car battle for fourth, and a five car battle behind that for the next positions.   In the end Wescott was victorious over Ricco, Pursell, Mark Schweibinz who recorded his best career finish in only his 9th career start, and Kevin Collins.   Steve Lindale, Paul Collins, Bob Lineman Sr., Ron Roberts and Bob Lineman Jr. completed the top ten.

Sportsman qualifying heats were won by Doug Stepanchuck, Bob Lineman Sr. and Sam Wescott Jr., with the consolations going to Christopher Christ and Jay Horton.

Mark Bitner of Trenton, N.J. was the winner of the Jasper Sprint car main event, taking his first career win in the division.   Bitner, a former Big Block Modified racer who moved to the sprints this year, out dueled defending champion Stevie Schmidt in the closing laps to get the win.   Schmidt made a great move to the outside, passing three cars in one bunch to get the lead including Bitner, only to have Bitner chase him down and take command with less than five laps left to score the exciting win.

Following Bitner and Schmidt across the finish line were early leader Matt Beasley, Jeff Mueller and a late closing John Wyers.   Sixth through tenth were Dave Brown, Bob Rassmussen, Jeff Foote, Jeff Davis and Steve Fleetwood.    Heat winners were Joe Thuet, Shane Smith and Matt Beasley.

In the Sportsman Rookie event, Brian Lilick, brother to Bob Lilick who runs Sportsman, took his first career win in the non stop feature.   Lilick out ran a late closing Dave Matz and Mark Forte Jr. to win.    All three ran close in the closing laps, to finish under a blanket, with Lilick coming out on top.    Completing the top five was Mike Brannigan and Skip Poole.

Next Saturday June 19 will see the Big Block Modifieds joined by the Sunoco Sportsman, Jasper Limited Sprints and Garies Property Mantence Rookies starting at 6; 30 PM.

RICKY ELLIOTT MAKES MOST OF HIS WINGATE CLASSIC VICTORY WITH  ANOTHER VICTORY AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY (20 Laps)

Ricky Elliott scored win number 3 this season on Saturday June 12th, just days after he schooled the Northern invaders in the  George Wingate Classic Tuesday night. Elliott showed the entire field how to handle Bridgeport’s excellent track conditions while Doug Hoffman finished second backing up his  most recent win on  May 22.  Elliott and Hoffman are neck and neck in point standings  with neither driver giving up any ground from week to week.   Duane Howard, Rick Laubach (Feature winner May 29), and Wade “the Flying Farmer” Hendrickson rounded out the top five finishers.

MARK BITNER PUTS LAST RUN BEHIND TO SCORE A WIN AT BRIDGEPORT

(20 Laps)

After finishing 20th on May 29th, Mark Bitner needed a good run to stay in contention for the Jasper Sprint Championship. This  weekend Mark Bitner did just that.  He beat points leader Jeff Mueller and kept recent feature winners Steve Schmidt and John Wyers at  bay to score a much-needed win in the consistently competitive Jasper Sprint Division.  Steve Schmidt finished 2nd while Matt Beasley took home 3rd. 4th place went to Jeff Mueller, followed  by John Wyers in 5th.

SAM WESCOTT TURNS HIS SEASON AROUND WITH A VICTORY IN THE

SUNOCO SPORTSMAN DIVISION AT BRIDGEPORT (20 Laps)

Sam Wescott had to be grateful that Richie Pratt Jr wasn’t breathing down his neck on the last lap of Saturday night’s  Sportsman feature. Pratt’s come from behind to win on the last lapin a majority of his victories. Wescott did have Drew Ricco to  deal with, but he proved he had what it would take to cross the finish line first.  The past few weeks have handed Wescott a few sub-par finishes, makingthis victory even sweeter. He’s in the top five in point standings and is making a charge fort he championship. The finishing order in the Sunoco Sportsman  Feature was: Sam Wescott, Drew Ricco, John Pursell, Mark Schweibinz, and Kevin Collins.
