JEFF STRUNK/CHAD SINON EARN 2004 COMDIAL DIRT SE CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Strunk of Bethel, PA is now the official champion of the 2004 COMDIAL Telephone Communications DIRT SE Big Block Modified Series.   The DIRT SE finale was set to take place at the Bridgeport Speedway this weekend, but heavy rain on Friday, forced speedway management to cancel the race until Saturday, November 27.

It was previously announced that the DIRT SE Champion would be declared on November 13th, one week prior to the DIRT Motorsports Awards Banquet.  The DIRT SE Series included fourteen race dates offering events in 25, 40 and 100 lap distances.  The tour visited Bridgeport, Hagerstown, Grandview, Big Diamond and the Delaware International Speedway.  A total of one-hundred and fifty-one different drivers took part in this very successful series that provided a mix of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware drivers.

Jeff Strunk could not be reached by phone, but car owner Chad Sinon was informed Sunday morning that his driver and team are the official DIRT SE Series Champions.  Sinon was disappointed that his driver and team were not together to hear the news and celebrate, but he was thrilled of his accomplishment of winning the inaugural running of the DIRT SE Tour.

Bob Miller, DIRT SE Series Coordinator, will provide the Chad Sinon Motorsports Team a time to celebrate as the DIRT SE Championship check of $3,000 will be presented at the Grandview Speedway 42nd Annual Awards Banquet, Saturday night, November 20 at the Gilbertsville Fire Hall.   Jeff Strunk and the Chad Sinon Motorsports Team will be earning their Grandview Speedway Championship Awards on the same night.

Of the fourteen race COMDIAL DIRT SE Series, twelve shows were completed with Grandview and Bridgeport each losing one event to rain.  The DIRT SE point fund will be distributed to the top twelve drivers in points who are eligible to collect the funds.

The goal of this series was to combine the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware competitors into the mix with DIRT Motorsports.  The strong support of this series between competitors and spectators is obvious and now has several local speedways in further discussions with the DIRT Motorsports orgainzation.                          END

JIMMY HORTON POCKETS $4,000 AND 110TH CAREER WIN THURSDAY AT BRIDGEPORT

BRIDGEPORT, NJ   SEPTEMBER  2, 2004    .   .   .   .  Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station, NJ   scored his first career win of the COMDIAL Telephone Communications DIRT Southeast Tour and his one-hundred-and-tenth career victory at the Bridgeport Speedway on Thursday night.  Race twelve of the fourteen race DIRT SE Series saw a twist of events from the outset of the night. For openers, DIRT SE point leader Jeff Strunk was missing from the field due to motor problems.  Frank Cozze, who came into the event ranked second in points, won his heat race as well as the Go For The Pole Dash.   Cozze was leading the race when he spun on lap fifteen, turning the lead over to third in points Jimmy Horton.  Throughout the second half of the forty lap feature, Horton had to fight off the challenges of Duane Howard and a fast closing Craig VonDohren to pocket the $4,000 first place prize.

Heat race event winners were Jimmy Horton, Frank Cozze and Jimmy Chester as Ricky Elliott won the consolation.  In the GO FOR THE POLE DASH, the top three heat race finishers and the winner of the consolation went to battle in the eight lap dash to establish the starting line-up for the top ten spots.  Frank Cozze rallied home the winner over Jimmy Horton.

In the forty lap feature event, Cozze and Horton immediately locked up in a battle for the lead as Jimmy Chester and Doug Hoffman were on the move.   The first caution of the race was for debris on the track on lap four.  The restart once again saw Cozze and Horton continue their battle with Hoffman now a close third.  Deep in the pack, Mike Iles and Kenny Brightbill were on a charge as well.

Cozze held a six car length
