The WORD IS: Friday night Redbud made a trip to the DIS track ground and there were over 50 campers & trailers in line and camping on the grounds awaiting for the track to open on Sat. morning. Everyone was sitting by their campfires cooking and mingling around to the bright trailer of Donnie and Danny Cogdill. More of this as this is the beginning of the weekend. I have been informed the track will open at 8:00 AM instead of 9. Redbud made rounds checking to see who was here just a few were Frank Cozze, Paul Collins, Ray Davis Jr., Jesse Hill, and Jimmy Spence, plus many more.

NEWS UPDATE: RICK LAUBACH & CREW INVOLVED IN
NASTY HIGHWAY CRASH: Earlier
today, Modified Driver Rick Laubach and crew members Ken Wismer Jr, Frank
Doklan, Buddy Morgan were injured in a nasty highway accident while
traveling to Thursday nights DIRT Southeast race at the Bridgeport Speedway.
What we know at this time from a phone report is a tire blew on either the
truck or trailer. As Driver Ken Wismer Jr. attempted to pull the slowing rig
to the shoulder of the road the trailer flipped on its side pulling the
tractor over with it. Driver Wismer Jr. were told is ok. Frank Doklan
received a broken hand and badly bruised shoulder, Crewman Buddy Morgan
received a broken hand and Rick Laubach received scraped and bruises on both
shins and feet. It is not known if anyone else was traveling with the team.
We will try to keep you updated as best we can. Phone conversations are
limited at this time as the team tries to locate their equipment . . . . . .

night at Middleford Speedway was a night to forget. A broken transmission in
hot laps, flipped in the heat race and blew up the engine in the feature.
New axle, new wings and my stock 250 from last year, left us racing 250
juniors at Airport. Second in the heat gave us a front row starting spot for
the feature, took the led from the start and lead every lap for the victory.
It's amazing how a win make everything forgotten. PR

JASON MILLER AND CRAIG VONDOHREN WIN FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW
Bechtelsville, PA April 10, 2004…Many time champion Craig VonDohren of Oley, PA won the 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night while Jason Miller of New Tripoli, PA was tops in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature race.
VonDohren got the lead on the 14th lap of the modified feature and lead the rest of the way leading Mike Gular and Meme DeSantis to the checkered flag for his first win of the season. Jason Miller led all the laps in the crash and caution filled Late Model feature. Finishing second was two time champion Lou Egrie followed by Randy Stoudt.

The New Driver to run in 2004 at DIS in the Street Modified Class will be Steve Stamps. Stamps has been driving since 1991 in the Midwest and back there during vacations to race even though he moved to DE in 1993. Stamps won the 1992 Rookie of the Year at the Tri-State Speedway in Ft. Smith AR. This year Stamps has set his sites on the Delaware International Speedway driving the number eighty-three, Elegant Slumming Diamonds, Surfside Motel, of Nagshead, NC, Jerry's Paving, Wings To Go, Tijuna Taxi,Rattan Co,Ocean Retreat Day Spa, Dragon's Lair, and Century 21' of Rehoboth Bay Realty. Mark Pettyjohn has announced to me that it is official he will be competing in the Late Model division for 2004. I saw the car at the show and it really has a great paint scheme too.
Dave Blaney of the #77 NASCAR driver told me, he just has the one date scheduled for Daytona, and after that he did not know what was going to happen.
J. J. Yeley was the 2003 Triple Crown Champion. I spoke with him as well, and he will be driving for the Joe Gibbs racing team in 2004. J. J. will be driving for ARCA, BUSCH, and NEXTEL divisions for t heGibbs team. I wish him luck in all, and the transition from dirt to asphalt. This guys has got it going on right now. Cara Foss won the 2004 Ms Motorsports title.
I was able to congratulate her in between all the camera shots on Sunday.
I spoke with Cara's sister to learn that Cara and her family have been into
racing for years. Norman Foss their Father was promoter for Bridgeport
in the nineties. Cara is currently a pre-law student at Drextel
University, and twenty-three years old. Cara is a big dirt fan of Open
Wheel, Sprints, and Dirt Modifieds. Cara hopes to broaden her likes to
other areas of racing such as some asphalt. Cara has held other pageant
titles such as Ms. Dirt, Ms. Dirt Trakin, and Ms. URC. This was her
sixth time to compete for the Ms. Motorsports title. Cara is currently
the girlfriend of Tim Hogue who is the URC Sprint driver of the Tasty-Kake
number thirty-nine. I am sure she will be a great representative for the
title and I look forward to seeing her at appearances. It is great to
have a person that is really into the sport.
There was a spot light on the "Saturday Night Heroes" from the past. The guys were all lined up to give fans autographs. Such as Frankie Sneider, Tige Scott, Paul Pitzer, Ken Wismer Jr., Leon Manchester, Steve Ellis, Tommy Long, Leigh Earnshaw Jr., Rusty Bowlby, and Artie Fillborn, and more. Also along the back wall were many different vintage club cars including Delmar. All the cars looked really great.
Jimmy Horton verified to me that he is in deed in the #901 for 2004 and will be running at Bridgeport and special events at Delmar. Horton is officially back with Hewlett and the 901 car. He left the 27 car because of Jay's involvement with a race track. Horton did it in the 70's when he drove the Statewide car and it was a mess for him amongst his fellow competitors. Horton will be driving the 5 car in Florida as will Dominick Buffalino.
Matt Hubbard who has been running a Modified Lite number twelve part time at DIS will now be upgrading to a Late Model class. Matt will be running at the Virginia Motor Speedway this year which is a 1/2 mile oval. Kenny Pettyjohn is an consultant and manager to help Matt with the transition. (No word from Kenny as to how this will affect, if any on his, LM driving at DIS Matt was at a seminar this weekend, maybe he will get a chance to come to DIS once in a while. www.vamotorspeedway.com Image here
