Rounding Out The Racing Season Already
September 29, 2011
By Bonnie Nibblett
Delmar, DE…..Here we are, another season just about over. Before we know it those “NEED FOR SPEED” cravings will be activating. Yet, there are just a few races you can still catch at the Delaware Motorsports Complex, home of the 1/2 mile clay circle track, US 13 Dragway and the US 13 Kart Club Track.
Mother Nature has taken a toll on us at the speedway the last 2 months with the weather. Two Saturday’s in August, rain & a hurricane, and two in September, rain & closed for ET Brackets at the drag strip. That’s four dates that really can impact the drivers that are running for track points.
Eric Korman # 16S will be the Redbud69racing.com Rookie of the Year in the Big Block Modified division
The next speedway race is this weekend Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 with the last appearance of the mighty URC Sprints for this year along with the 5 weekly divisions. NAPA Big Block Modified, Super Late Models, AC Delco Mod, Crate Models and Mod Lites.
The track has added a date to the speedways’ schedule for Oct. 8, which might help those drivers who are concerned with points. Not all the drivers’ race for points, many just race for fun. It’s the top 10 drivers’ that are awarded trophies and cash at the yearly banquet. There’s a few that are real close in digits that could effect their finished positions.
Crate Model driver Nick Davis # 92 won on Sept. 10, 2011 taking his first win of the year.
On Oct. 8, the “Blast From the Past Reunion” make up will be held due to the rain canceling original date Aug. 27 and the 2nd make up date Sept. 17. Hopefully we can get it in this time. The track is holding this special event with any drivers & car owners that raced in Delaware between the years of 60’s thru 80’s, that can attend. More than a 125 had registered before the original date. The guest from “Blast from the Past Reunion” will have a hospitality tent for meet & greet and be able to sign autographs & have pictures taken during intermission time. Gates will open at 4 PM. Come see your favorite driver, such as Ron Keys, Harold Bunting, Oscar Fields, Haines Tull, Jack Sapp, Eddy Pettyjohn and Billy Towers just to mention a few.
The Oct. 8 date will end the points for all the tracks divisions. Along with the weekly classes NAPA Big Block Modified, Super Late Models, AC Delco Mod, Crate Models and Mod Lites, the Little Lincoln Vintage Stock Car Club and the Southern Delaware Vintage Club will race. Also it will be the “King of Kings” Night for Late Models. All the feature late model winners from this season, will race one another for a 10 lap special feature for bonus monies.

Then the final show for the 2011 season will be the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships (DSDTC) Friday & Saturday, Oct. 21-22, 2011. Rain date is Nov. 5 & 6. Last year the championship feature events were moved to night format over the past of day time racing. It was a big hit! All the qualifying for all divisions will be on Friday night and the Small Block Modified 50 lap feature plus the final point’s race feature for the Little Lincolns. The Little Lincolns & Vintage classes each run their own point’s battle. On Saturday night consolations are held and then all the features. On Friday, Oct 21, gates open at 3 PM & Sat. at 4 PM.
There will be a payout of $55,000 in cash that weekend with gamblers fee, sponsors per lap pay outs and all. One day general admission is $20 each day, pits $30. A 2 day gen adm $35, with pits 2 day pass $55. Reserved seating on gen adm is available wit the giant jumbotron screen with a bird’s eye view of the track on the screen.
