It’s Too Quiet!

Delmar, DE…..The end of September? Where did the time go? As it stands now, the weekend before this prints in the paper, was one of the great racing weekends for the year. The last point’s races at the clay oval just completed, mighty URC Sprints last visit for 08, and it was Dover race weekend? All, after this was sent in for you viewers? So we can’t go over the points yet, and talk about Dover racing as it’s not happened.
The season has flown by, just where does all the time go? The Delaware Motorsports Complex has been in full force at each of the three tracks all year. There has not been any Oct. races announced, but the racing that has transpired this year has all been great in all the regular five weekly classes. If you missed out, you should be kick yourself for missing some of the best dirt track racing in the east.
The champions will be named in next month’s article, when all the features are done. With more on the drivers and who did what this year? It’s really pretty much sowed up for some of the top winners in points. Jamie Mills looks to be the NAPA Big Block Modified championship. In Late Model, before last weekend had Ray Davis, Jr. and first year late model driver Jon Callaway with only 30 points between the two. In the late model crate division has Joe Warren leading, but in the AC Delco Modified crate class Mike White leads with only 45 points ahead of Joe Tracy. In the Modified Lite class Brandon Dennis looks to be claiming his first championship.
The Rislone URC Sprint Series were here last week for the last time this year, and the 2007 reigning champion looks to be the 2008 Championship of Curt Michael. Michael even started this season on a new team of # 5G Bill Gallagher owned sprint. No one really expected the newly formed team would continue to be the front runner in the point chase, but yes they have. Second through fifth has been tight and you know its not over until it’s over.
The Little Lincoln Vintage Stock Car Club is divided by only 10 points at this writing. Bill Brittingham leads over Mel Joseph, Jr. The last race for the club will be Nov. 1 at Delmar’s Delaware State Dirt Track Championship as it stands now. Brittingham won the 2007 & 2006 Championships. Check the clubs web for any updates at www.littlelincolns.com
For now the weekends will be too quiet (for me) each Saturday night. To feel that rumble and smell the fumes is what a race fan needs to feed the NEED FOR SPEED addiction. The last big event at the ½ mile will be the Delaware State Dirt Track Championship Nov. 1-2, 2008, rain date Nov. 8-9. Visit the tracks web at www.delawareracing.com
The dragway at US 13, still will be in action every Sunday, in October through the 26th. There’s plenty of ¼ mile action to feed some of your needs. Gates open at 10 AM, time trials begin at 11 AM. More information can be seen on the tracks web at www.delawareracing.com or the tracks hot line for details of coming races at 302-846-3968.
The US 13 Kart Club is winding down as well but still have a few dates left in Oct. The last race of the season at Delmar will be a Memorial Race for Ralph Moore, and Kyle Dixon on Friday, Oct 24, 2008 the two karters that were taken too soon. Check the tracks web at www.dekarting.net for info or the hot line at 302-846-2646.
