Delmar, DE…..The U S 13 Dragway located on the Delaware Motorsports Complex just switched back to Sundays’ last week with the Wm. J. & Juanita Cathell Memorial 49th Anniversary Super Chevy Show, Shine & Drags Special.  (Should rain date be needed 9/9/12.)  The event is always a crowd pleaser.

The track goes back to Sunday shows after running on Friday nights for the summer in June & July.  Schools are starting, football games & other sports soon to follow.  Overall, it just works better for everyone.

This Sunday, Sept. 2, will be the 6th Annual Ford Motorsports Show hosted by Cheswold Connection Ford Racing at the Dragway. (Rain date 9/16/12 if needed)  Plus the 422 Motorsports All Stars, Super ET, Pro ET, Pro Bike, Trophy classes and Junior Dragster all will be on hand to run.  This marks the last points’ races for the season as well.  For Ford Show info contact Perky Ridgeway 302-632-1563 or 302-734-8571 or Chris Ridgeway at 302-734-9995.  Gates open 10AM, time trials 11AM, general admission is only $12.  Check out the web www.delawareracing.com for more or call track office at 302-875-1911.

On the ½ mile clay oval there’s the last appearance for the URC Sprints this season on Saturday night, Sept. 1, along with the 5 regular weekly divisions of the big block modifieds, super late model, 2 crate classes and modified lites.

The season is getting along but we still got a lot of good racing left to watch.  So get out there to watch the racers put on a skillful night of excitement.  The 2 crate classes fill the field limit just about every Saturday night.  Each division’s race is worth waiting to see in all of the classes no matter if you have a favorite class or not, there’s action in every lap.

The AC Delco Modifieds has had 9 different winners so far, Jordan Watson, Joe Tracy, Bobby Watkins, John Curtis, Paul McGinley, Brandon Blades, Chad Cark, Trent Willey and Ty Short.  Two of those drivers are rookies with this their first year in this division.

The Crate Model has had 5 different winners Matt Hill has taken 4, Mike Wharton has 3, Joe Warren & Dylan Evans both took 2 each, and Tyler Reed & Reese Masiello with 1 win a piece.  The Mod Lites have only 4 different winners so far James Hill, Jimmy Wills, Ray Gulliver and Brandon Dennis.

The crate classes appear to be the most popular divisions with the youngest drivers since being 14 years old to run is required.  The Redbud69racing.com Rookie of the Year is keeping tabs on all the candidates this year and will crown the 2012 Rookies at the champ show.

The super lates have had 8 different winners this year where Ricky Elliott holds the most wins of 4.  Winner this year include Ray Davis, Jr., Richard Jarvis, Jr., Donald Lingo, Jr., Mark Byram, Staci Warrington, Mark & Kenny Pettyjohn and David Williams.

Elliott just celebrated 25 Years of racing career this month in just his seating time in big blocks & late models; he started in karts at a very young age.  From time to time I like to add how drivers chose the car number for their race cars.  Elliott’s # 88 has a rather romantic connection.

While in high school his sweetheart was Cheryl and they set a date to marry 8/8/88.  It was in fun or jest even though they were an item in school.   Cheryl left for college and Ricky went on his way in life as well.  Somewhere down the lane the two paired up again, both single again, the sparks were rekindled.  So they decided it’s a go this time to really marry on 8/8/08.  But Elliott did not want to wait 2 more years, so they were married on Aug. 8, 2006.  So 8/8/2+0+0+6 = 8 still keeping the original numbers as they planned in high school.  Elliott also ran the # 8 when racing in karts.  Congratulations to the 25 years milestone and happy 6th wedding anniversary Ricky & Cheryl.  Elliott has been one of Delaware’s best drivers in the racing sport.

Okay, the big block modifieds has only had 4 different winners H J Bunting III, Jamie Mills, Brad Trice and Jo Jo Watson.  Bunting & Mills rivals for years in racing can really put on a show.  They always dual hard to the end and its close many times between the two.  The other drivers hang right there but those two compete hard.  The no set engine cubic rule could be a disadvantage for some.  But the racing action continues to be packed full of fun & excitement.
