Delmar, DE…..The summer is just about over, many schools have started, and days are already getting dark earlier. I hate to see it end, because it also means racing in Delaware will be over before we know it. So make good use of the time we have left before that wares that craving NEED FOR SPEED start.

So this weekend there’s a lot of action going on at the US 13 Dragway, and the Delaware International Speedway. Don’t miss out on all the fun.

The US 13 Dragway will honor the 48th Annual William J. Cathell Memorial. With that it is also time to celebrate the Super Chevy Show, Shine & Drags this Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011. It’s a chance to see some really well restored Chevy show cars from all years in the past up to more recent years as well. Rain date is Sept. 11, 2011

The Super Chevy Show is hosted by the Mason-Dixon Classic Chevy Club. There will judging of the cars by qualified judges. No classes and there will be 48 – 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards plus 3 Best in Show handed out. All the show automobiles must be Chevy powered. Dash plagues for first 200 entries. For more show information, call Kathy Swagler 410-213-7579, Jr. Hurley 410-749-6476, or Tom Scott 410-632-3107.

The Dragway will also be open to all makes and models to race, gates open 9AM, time trials 10AM, registration 9AM to 12PM. Super, Pro, Pro Bike, Hot Rod Trophy, Bike Trophy, Jr. 1 & 2 Dragsters. Including a Jerry Kettermans “Bad 8” Show; Wally Trophies to Super Pro, Pro, Pro Bike & Street.

On September 4th, the 5th Annual Ford Motorsports Show will be hosted by Cheswold Connection Ford Racing at the Dragway. For Ford show info contact Perky Ridgeway 302-632-1563 or 302-734-8571 or Chris Ridgeway at 302-73-9995.

This is also the first Sunday event after switching back from Friday night action. So there are no races on Friday nights now, all events have returned to Sundays. Call the tracks hot line at 302-846-3968 for the current weekend’s action at the complex. Or check out the tracks web site at www.delawareracing.com

Come out for the car show, and then hit the Dragway for some fast ¼ mile action. Better yet, come to the speedway Saturday night, and then return Sunday for the drag & Chevy show. Now that’s a way to have some fun.

The celebration at the ½ mile clay circle has an action packed Saturday night in store for fans, too. It’s “King of Kings” Night for Late Models. All the feature late model winners for this season, will race one another for a 10 lap special feature for bonus monies.

Plus, the speedway is hosting “A Blast Of The Past” special night this Saturday, Aug. 27th. Any driver or owner from the 1960’s to 1980’s are being honored. You have to be registered ahead and you could receive 2 free passes. There is an entry form on the tracks web at www.delawareracing.com.  Or call the tracks office at 302-875-1911. The URC Sprints return next week on Sept 4, and be sure to like us on Facebook & follow us on twitter.

Redbud69racing.com Rookies of the Year for 2011 have been battling with close results in points. Who will be honored this season?  The points end with the last regular night of racing, which may be Oct. 1. That is not set in stone, because there could be schedule changes from rain out nights this year.

The speedways point battle is running pretty close too, but I imagine these will be the champs this year. Leading in each class is Matt Jester #62 in the NAPA big block modified, Donald Lingo, Jr. #55L in late model, John Curtis # 17 in AC Delco modified, Joe Warren # 11 in crate models, and Brandon Dennis # 10 in mod lites.

The US 13 Kart Club Track still has quite a few nights of racing left. Come out to see the future racers. They run every Friday night with the exception of Sept 10. The final state race is Saturday, Sept 10. Fridays gates open at 5 PM, registration 5-7PM, practice racing at 7PM. The track has been fast all summer long. Visit the tracks web at www.dekarting.net
