After last weeks rain and no racing and then tonight with the threat of rain everyone needed a shot of racing to feed or fix their racing cravings. As the gates were to open a dark cloud approached with sprinkling of rain in the air. A decision had to be made and the radar showed cells more south & north of us; so DIS gambled to still proceed with a green flag. As the trailers and cars drove in rain drizzled a few more times before the cars took to the track and made it all the way through with the night having a little rain as we ended the night. Tonight was jammed packed full of action. The track was very heavy and fast and good tonight. Two heats with 7 cars qualifying and 1 consi with 8 cars qualifying.
Stormin Norman Short was on the pole at the green as the cars headed into turn , a car shoots in the middle of the pack for a hole and gets sideways causing a chain reaction with Dutton, Wilkins, and Millman all in the mishaps and done for the night.
Short leads at the restart but Foskey had the lead as he came out of turn 2. Yellow on lap 4 and at the restart Foskey leads to the flag stand with Mullins, Short, Bunting, following behind. Yellow back out for 4 or 5 cars in turn 3, with Taylor, Ott, and Bufflino all involved. Lap 7 another yellow for Bufflino in turn 2 ( second strike, not his night). On the restart of lap 8 it Foskey, Mullins, Downs, Johnson, and Short. Bufflino left the track on last yellow and returns to the track as the action is mixing up some but as he gets in turns 3 & 4 and got around. ( I said not his night, 3rd strike your out.) This time restart only change up was Bunting moving into 5th as Short slips back and remained that way at the 1/2 sign. Sixth -thru 10th were Mills, Short, Hendrickson, Smith, and Simpson.
Lap 14 Taylor got his 3rd strike with no change in the top 5. On lap 16 Johnson checks up or slows in turn 2 so Bunting took advantage of that to take 4th and the yellow was out before the lap was complete so Johnson got a break to retain 4th; Johnson made use of his luck and turns it up a notch to battle Downs side by side off turn 4 and down to turn 1 to take 3rd on lap 20. On lap 21 Mullins was right on the bumper of Foskey in the turns, yet Foskey pulls out ahead. Lap 23 in turn 3 Foskey and Mullins are hard at it as they approach the lap car of Ott and Johnson right in the mix too. But Foskey did not wavier and finished to take his first win for 2005 in the Scott's Furniture machine.
Heat 1 had Short on the point by lap 2 Foskey takes the lead in turn 2. Half way with Foskey, Short, Johnson, Downs, Dutton.
Heat 2 started with Rust on pole; lap 2 Rust and Wilkins were wheel to wheel action in turn 2 and through the backstretch. Lap 3 cars approach turn 1 as Rust gets out of shape and Bunting tangles with Rust both get around. The announcer said the tape review had Glanden getting sideways, Tucker goes over front end of Humlhanz, as Bunting had no where to go and gets into Tucker and Tucker winding over on his roof in turn 2. Lap 4 restart Mullins took the lead.
In the consi Millman leads at the green while Smith went down in turn 4 to get by Millman to win the consi.
Downs had another great run with a top 5, Foskey ran flawless with Mullins on his butt.

Tarbutton 0.
Rick Whaley was on the point at the drop of the green with Jarvis right on his tail after Jarvis started 5th as they reach turn 1. (Ray Davis, Jr. was to start 12th but using his back-up car he should have been last and everyone moving up a spot.) Eichholz get a little slideways in turn 2 and lost a couple of positions. By lap 4 it was Whaley, Jarvis, Donnie Lingo, Mark Pettyjohn and Eichholz. Lap 6 King got around in turn 4, lap 8 Whaley still leads with Jarvis trying to dial Whaley in, like Pettyjohn had Jarvis. Jarvis and Pettyjohn go head to toe but Jarvis pulls away in the straight away.
At the half-way Whaley leads, Jarvis, Donnie Lingo, Pettyjohn, and Hill in the top 5 but the yellow waves for Donnie Lingo with a flat tire while running 3 rd. On the restart this time at half way Pettyjohn gets 3rd with Hill and Eichholz move to 4th & 5th. Lap 13 the shuffling had only one change with Ray Davis, Jr. replacing Eichholz for 5th.
On Lap 15 Jarvis was right on the bumper of Whaley and Pettyjohn on Jarvis's bumper, really putting on a great show with some hot close action going on up front. Lap 16 David Pettyjohn has a flat with Wharton and him getting a together just before turn 3. On the restart, Jarvis gets by Whaley on the outside of turn 2 and is gone and not looking back to pick up his first Late Model dirt race.
In heat 1 Whaley at the point on the start, with Donnie Lingo, Eichholz, M. Pettyjohn and Massey in 5th. Half-way Whaley and Lingo are toe to toe and Lingo taking the lead to win heat 1.
In heat 2 Geiger is on the pole, the cars approach turn 1 and as they come off turn 2 Davis got out of shape taking a horrific dive in the dirt and flips hard onto the steel embankment. Davis is shook up but okay as the field was red flagged; this was a brand new car tonight.
Hats off to Davis and his crew with calling for the back up car, and having to rob what parts were left to use on the back up and got the car ready to compete in the feature. But Davis, did not just compete he worked his way through the field to place a 5th place finish!

Chad James was a visitor from BP plus 4 more new cars added to field, Ellsey Conover, Dan Fielder, Darryl Mitchell, and Richard White, Jr.
Mullins was on the pole at the green just as a few drops of rain began to fall. Lap 1 Rookie James got around in turns 3&4, the restart has Mullins leading, Watkins, T. Curtis, Hawkins and Rookie Trice rounds out top 5. Lap 3 a big tangle when cars got crossed up off turn 4 collecting Ireland, J. Curtis, Tucker, and Carr. It was a single file restart and by lap 5 its Mullins, Watkins, Curtis, Trice, and Hawkins, lap 6 had 6th-10th with Jarrell, Cordrey, Dutton, Griffith, and Beach.
The half way had the same top 5, and the yellow for Griffith around in turns 3 & 4. Lap 12 Beach gets around in turn 4, and two cars in turn 2. On the restart Mullins still leads but Watkins gave all he had to battle but Mullins keeps his lead.

Mark Williams had a rare treat of starting on the pole, but his car was loose he said and he could not pull way out front with it so loose. Cahall runs 2nd with about a car length between the two. At half-way Williams, Cahall, Bunting, Johnson, and Sockriter. A yellow on lap 9 for Shockley in turn 4 slows the momentum some but by a couple more laps Williams now has two car lengths on Cahall. Lap 12 Wilson has a flat and pulls to the infield as LeKites retires too. Williams posted his first win for 2005.

Fastest Qualifying Time: Steve White 78, with 22.851 seconds and 78.771 MPH on lap 5.
The Modified Lite class had quite a bit going on with good racing and tempers.
Steve White begins on the pole as the cars start to reach turn 1, rookie and first time at the track Dan Fielder car digs in the track and begins to barrel roll over the turn 1 embankment for a 6 1/2 times before stopping. He was shook up but okay, he was checked and taken by ambulance to PRMC, in Salisbury, MD. The word today was he has some bruising on his forehead and bruised & swollen over his right eye, but ready to get back out there.
An original restart, then as White leads on lap 4 he is hard into turn 3, the track was fast, R. Walls in 2nd and B. Walls is hard into turn 3 trying to get by both for the lead and gets over the front tire of White. R. Walls is 2nd and gets brunt of tangle to get flipping over in turn 3 crest and landing right side up. All of these guys wind up around, over, and sideways with Musser getting over on the roof in turn 3 & 4. Musser and Walls both okay after overturning. Leader and top cars of B. Walls, R. Walls, Musser, White, all out. With all this action going on somehow Callaway sees a chance for him make a move to avoid the chaos to recant the lead.
At the half-way its Callaway, S. White, Helgason, M. Vammino, and Hill. On lap 12 Vammino and Hill run fender to fender in turn 3 & 4, and back in turns 1 & 2 as the yellow waves on lap 14 for a car around in turn 3 & 4. With a green, white, checkered Callaway powered to take his first win for the year.
