Delaware International Speedway Canceled

April 23, 2005

Delmar, DE…..Well, the threat of severe weather in the late afternoon has forced the Delaware International Speedway to cancel tonight’s event.  It was only the second weekend of racing schedule.  The URC Sprints were on the schedule to begin their 58th season opener tonight.  A make up date is not known at this time.

Last week drivers, crews, and fans all got to get a look at the cars for 2005.  The cars were all revved up and ready to go and put on a great show.  Anticipation in waiting for the season to begin was high as everyone can’t wait for Saturday night to get that racing fix.  Just having one event in the books and having to cancel tonight was a big disappointment for all.

Last Saturday, H.J. Bunting, III won the Modified feature, Dale Lingo, IV won the Late Model feature, Jack Mullins, Jr., won the entry level AC Delco TSS Modified class, Chris Sockriter won the Street Modified feature and Bobby Walls, III, won the Modified Lite class.  The boys all put on a great show for the fans bracing the cold night air.  Everyone was looking forward to see tonight’s action all over; waiting all winter really gets your Need For Speed addiction craving.  So having cancel puts a damper in everyone’s desires.

Next week DIS will celebrate with the William J. Cathell Memorial night with plenty of action on the track, plus Little Lincoln’s visit.  Gates open at 5:00 PM and the cars take to the track at 7:00 PM.

Also, tickets for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series show on July 6, and the 100-lap Dirt Series set for May 26 are on sale now.  Contact the tracks office at 302.875.1911 for questions.  You can also visit www.delawareracing.com or www.redbud69racing.com for updates.  See you at the track!
