Here We go, Get Ready For The Sound Of Power In The Air
March 31, 2011
By Bonnie Nibblett
Delmar, DE…..The NEED FOR SPEED addiction is finally right here to feed. Now if Mother Nature will cooperate with us, this Saturday night the Delaware International Speedway will run the Test-n-Tune to get the seasons’ juices flowing. It will be the first time any of the stock cars take to the track for 2011. It may not be full on racing, however the sweet smell of the engines, tires, mufflers, and paint will all new and in the air, plus the heavy sound of roaring powered engines are present. With just enough action to tease us for next Saturday night for the start of the 48th season opener, April 9, on the big half mile clay oval.
The test-n-tune will be free for spectators in the grandstand; there is a fee to enter the pit should you wish to get up and close to your favorite driver. Added racing action for this year will hold a big question mark on the NAPA Big Block Modifieds as who will travel to Delmar to race this season? A neighboring Northern track will not be running big bock modified’s this season. This opens up a slot for more big block drivers to venture south to Delmar’s circle on weekly bases if they want to run big block engines or to another track.

Matt Jester big block driver missed the 2010 track championship by a mere 55 points
Big block drivers at Delmar will race as usual with some of top drivers returning to race this year. 2nd place champion Matt Jester will go up against 2010 Champion Kenny Brightbill, H J Bunting, Jamie Mills (Jo-Jo will run at first, then Jamie), Howard O’Neal, Brad Trice, Robert Dutton and more will return to make the field. From away, Ritchie Pratt, Jr., Eric Korman, Rick Laubach, Jimmy Horton IV have are all been rumored to show this year. This should be a stupendous year for the modified division. A couple new local drivers going into big blocks are Kyle Fuller and Shawn Ward from the AC Delco class.
And the crate motors classes will be added to replace the big blocks at the Northern track. Not sure if exactly the same crate classes we run at Delmar, none the less there will be forms of crate motors racing at that track? So I look for several new drivers to race in the AC Delco division at Delmar. Drivers Tom Moore, Jr., the defending 2010 champion Joseph Tracy, John Curtis, Scott Calhoun and Ryan Anderson just to name a few drivers returning this year.

Super Late Model action on "Topless Night" with Ray Davis Jr. # 84 & Rob Schirmer # 118 in turn 3
In the Super Late Model class Richard Jarvis, Jr. is set to return this year. Both girls, Amanda Whaley & Stacy Warrington will return, defending 2010 champ Donald Lingo, Jr., David Hill, Ray Davis, Jr., and Kerry King are all returning as well as many others. I’m sure we will have some new rookies this year, too.
Our home track will be sure to draw even more drivers with returning drivers and new drivers from the Mod Lites & karts. Stacy Roberts will going into the crate late model from Mod Lites, Roberts will just be turning 15 years old at the start of the season. Roberts is a 3rd generation driver with her Grandfather Ron Roberts that pilot’s the Z14 modified.
This season is shaping up to be a winner full of expectation and anticipation for great nights of racing. This is going to be some year, when you also add the special race nights like “Topless Night”, “Twin Twenties” and so much more to look forward to. You don’t want to miss any of the racing this year! Because it will be packed full of competitive racing very weekend.
