All Systems Go To Start Racing

Delmar, DE…..The Delaware Motorsports Complex has already started action at the U S 13 Dragway back on March 18. The season looks to be another year of fun for all in racing. The weather has been a bit warm for spring; really we didn’t have much of a winter?
In the first weeks dragway action Jay Bradford took the Super Pro win, Roger Ridgeway, Jr. grabbed the win in Pro, Chris Morris took Pro Bike, Wayne Phippin claimed the Street final, Earl Davis the Bike Trophy, Brittany Hooper Jr. took Dragster 1 and Shelby Bireley in Jr. Dragster 2.
ET Brackets will return each Sunday until school completes the year out. The gates open at 10 AM, time runs at 11 AM. The first Friday night will be June 8, 2012, the gate will open 3:30 PM, time runs start 4:30 PM. Also remember the new admission fee is $12 which gets you in both spectator & pit entrance.

The ˝ mile clay oval is set for the season’s annual “Test-N-tune” night on Saturday, April 7, from 6-9 PM, gate opens 5 PM. Come check out the first cars to hit the track for 2012. The spectator side is free on test-n-tune night for all spectators.

The following Saturday night, April 14, kicks off the first features of the season. Gates will open at 5 PM, hot laps at 7 PM. The season opener will also begin with ‘Delmar Nite’ where anyone with a Delmar ID such as a driver’s license will be permitted free admission into the general seating stands. That’s quite super deal, and a real good opportunity to come see racing if you have never been.
Also, the opener will have the Little Lincoln Vintage Stock Car Club & Southern Delaware Vintage Clubs racing. Both divisions take pride to preserve the history of racing in a “Blast from the Past” fashion so to continue the tradition of what we have advanced in to today’s racing. Both classes really put on a good show just as in the old day and race like it’s their last.
The following week, April 21, will be the Kyle Dixon Memorial & Slide for Five. Kyle Dixon was a senior and a young racer killed on Jan. 4, 2008. Dixon raced in karts and was making the transition to the big track. The celebration of Dixon’s life continues with many other fund raisers to honor him in several different ways by his family & the Trice family and friends each year.
On April 28, the celebration of the founder, Wm. J. Cathell, that opened the grounds some 49 years ago, host the annual William J. Cathell Memorial. The first appearance of the powerful URC Sprints for 2012 will be on hand that weekend. And that will wrap up the first month of racing on the speedway. You don’t want to miss it! The new fee for the speedway admission is $15 general admission, $20 on URC events. Children 13 & under free when with an adult. The pit fee remains $25, no changes.
There will be racing every weekend for both the dragway & speedway. WoOlMS return to the oval, Thursday, May 31, 2012, tickets will go on sale soon for that event. The complex is located on Sussex Hwy, (Rt. 13), in Delmar DE, just 1 mile North of the Mason Dixon Line (Delaware & Maryland state line).
The US 13 Kart Club Track is located just before you enter the complex to the left. Last weekend was the first practice; this Friday is another practice night. First club race is Friday, April 13, 2012. New open times are in place this year with club racing gate opens 5:30 PM, registration 5:45 - 6:45 PM, 7 PM practice is to start. The first State race is Saturday, April 28, gate opens 8 AM, registration from 8:15 AM – 9 AM, practice 9 AM. Gate admission for all events is only $5. Visit their web at www.dekartig.net.
