All The Racing Action Turns To Delaware This Weekend

Delmar, DE…..All the racing action turns to the Delaware International Speedway this weekend for the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships held on Saturday and Sunday, November 6 & 7, 2004. The main events held include 50 laps in the Small Block Modifieds, Big Block Modifieds and the Late Models. The remaining main divisions of AC Delco TSS Modifieds, Street Modifieds, and Modified Lites will run 25 lap features. A big turn out of cars always show to give their hand in the fastest half-mile clay oval running in Delaware and go up against the Delaware guys.
On Saturday, the events will include the Little Lincolns and Vintage Racing cars for an additional attraction. On Sunday, a new event added to this years show to round out the day, will be the famous Slide For Five, where as many as 50-60 cars have participated before in the Saturday nights shows. It is a good laugh to watch those cars slide around for 5 laps all over the slippery wet clay oval, running into one another or sliding into, as the first car to make it around 5 circuits will be crowned the winner.
Last year, the Small Block winner was Kevin Hirthler, who also won the 2002 DE State Champion Show; can he pull it off three years in a row? The 2003 Big Block winner was Duane Howard, Gary Stuhler won the Late Model feature, Street Modified was won by Richard White, Jr., and Jon Callaway won the Modified Lite feature.
There will be a change in the schedule this year in which the track will be running time trials in order to determine positions for the heats. After hot laps the cars will make timed hot laps and be lined up according to the time and remain in that group of cars, and then the heats will follow with the fastest to slowest lining up sources have said. On Saturday, the Small Block feature will run, and the Team USA Modified Lites, and then the Little Lincoln and Vintage features. Following those events all heats for Sunday’s events will be set and ready. On Sunday only consolations will be hell for the remaining fields. The schedule is subject to change.
The gates will open on Saturday at 9:00 AM with drivers meeting at 10:30 AM and track run in at 10:45 AM. Sunday, the gates open 10:00 AM, with drivers meeting at 11:00 AM and cars taking to the track at 11:30 AM. The track always adheres the times as best as possible to make everything time efficient. I know I run myself ragged trying to get around to all the drivers. More information on prices can be seen on the tracks web site at www.delawareracing.com or call the tracks office at 303.875.1911 or the hot line at 302.875.3968.
This is my last fix for my NEED FOR SPEED at my home track, and I love it but hate to see the season end. Thanks to AutoWorld in Delmar, DE as being a sponsor, I will present each class that runs at DIS on a regular Saturday night, a plague from www.redbud69racing.com for each Rookie of the Year highest in points in their class. This means a lot to have a supporter to help give the guys a little extra notice for such an outstanding job in their first year in the class that they ran all season. Last year, I gave certificates, so being able to have a sponsor to support me to give plagues means a lot to me. I love racing, and love my track, and just try to bring you the news from Delaware. The Rookies of the Year in each class from me, not the track will be Mark VanVorst-Modified, Robert Massey-Late Model, Tom Curtis-TSS Modified, Steve Stamps-Street Modified, and Kevin McKinney-Modified Lite.
Each weekend the action at DIS keeps me busy, and on my toes since I added the surrounding tracks news to my web site since last year. I pulled it off, even though I suffered computer woes right in the main stream of the season. So I want to thank all the tracks, photographers and PR contacts that help me with all information or I should say keep me glued to the computer for all their help. So far www.redbud69racing.com has been successful in the first full year and I only hope to grow. The support of the drivers, crews, and fans also has made this possible for me to grow with all their support so another big thank-you. Www.redbud69racing.com is the only web site to bring you all the Your Delaware and Surrounding Tracks News, Plus NASCAR News. So the season has been very busy, and I thank everyone for all their support and help.
This weeks weather is suppose to be pretty fair, so that is another plus. For all your action this weekend get to the track to see drivers from all over compete on that half-mile clay circle. You don’t want to miss the last show of the year. The action on daytimes track does make the action a lot different than it is at night, but still well worth your time. I know I would much rather see fast, furious, sheet metal schemes on a track than pumpkins flyin in the air. Below is an order of events. See you at the track!
