BIRDDAWG'S BACKSTRETCH

June 8, 2005

Well I've been busy, busy, busy, but last weekend I did get a chance to go to the Williams Grove to see the World Of Outlaws and I jumped on it.  Before they could get everything out to go,  I was packed, and in the van ready to go.

It may have been a very long ride but it was worth every minute.  Watching the best of the best dirt racers go at it all night was wild.  Watching the The King (Kinser) sling some dirt over every body else was awesome.

I did miss out on the racing at Delmar on Saturday by getting home so late and I've read that I missed a lot of things at my home track.

However,  I did get to go just last Saturday night and what a night.  After a few days of rain it sure made a night for some wild racing.  I was kinda upset not seeing Ray Ray out there and I'm not going to get into what happened last Saturday I wasn't there but I did miss seeing him and a few others.

I decided to change it up Saturday and I sat on turn two.  As I was sitting there in back of a truck making bets on the who was going to win the race and I was getting disappointed because I was losing my shirt, yet I was loving every minute of it.  Just missing one week of racing at Delmar really SUCKED for me.

My hat is off to all the boys out there every Saturday night putting a great show on every weekend.  I would like to wish that every body can get back to racing and stop the he said, she said crap and lets race, and have fun once again.  That is what racing is for all of us, fun, and thrilling.

It’s been a while since I have written anything; I have been really busy working.  I figured I would catch up on some things, and I have been reading the message board.   I have noticed a lot of things that I don't understand, or why some things are being said.  I know the board is for all people to talk about the racing, but what I'm reading isn't about the racing, it’s about saying something bad about others.

For example, about Jack Mullins, did any body ever think that he may just be a good racer?  If he is cheating then somebody should do something like people say, either put up or shut up.  I am not trying to be mean or anything I just think if you want to say he is cheating then do something quit crying about it.

As I was reading on, I read about smoke or something, and no one could see anything for a couple laps.  To me if the drivers thought it was dangerous then they should have pulled off of the track.  Or the track would black flag him as well.

One thing I would like to talk about is the team slide.  That don't even sound fun, and from what I heard it didn't look fun with only 3 teams.  Just let us go back to slide for five, not the team slide.  I know the whole safety deal is a big factor, and I also know I personally took a few hard hits myself.  But I also do remember signing a paper so we could race.  To me it's just too much to have to take two cars to the track.  That's a long ride for a lot of people to do with one let alone two.  I better stop now; I hope to get back to the track to bring you more views soon.

If anyone has any comments to say to me about what I wrote feel free to email me at birddawg1986@aol.com  love to hear what you think or have to say or enter it on the message board and I will read it there too.

Well, this week on BirdDawg's Backstretch I am just so glad the season has started, yet I didn't get to talk to as many drivers as I wanted.    In the next few weeks, I plan on chasing down Ray Ray, Wayne Willing, and Gary Simpson to ask some questions or intakes on some of the drivers opinions.  Still working on getting a few ideas of what I want to ask drivers.

It was so great to see the shine of new sheet metal and hear the rumble of them motors; made a tear come to my eye.  Don't know if it was from the fumes, or just being so happy to see them on the track, but I loved it.  Them boys looked they had been on the track all winter.  I guess its like riding a bike you never forget.  Yeah, some may have been a bit rusty but,  they got that WD-40 out and got back at it.  Just seeing that dirt fly and the people cheer was wild.  Besides, the cold the night air was wild, but I'm ready to throw on the tank top, shorts, flip flops and watch some racing in the warm weather, but it sure felt good to be back at the track.

This week the boys with the wings come to our sand box to get down and dirty.  YEAH BUDDY!

This week on the BirdDawg's backstretch learns about a former URC Sprint racer, Wayne Steele, who raced with URC sprints for almost seven years.  He first got his start in a race car when he was only 15 years old.  One night Wayne's Father who was a late model racer, could not race the car.  That was when Wayne got his chance and jumped onto a his Father's race car; and as they say the rest is history.

From there Wayne got into driving Limited Late Models and raced against his Father for many years.  Then one night at the track a man came to Wayne and asked, if he would like to drive a sprint and he decided to go for it.  Wayne went onto race many races with the URC Sprints Series; until the team was sold.

Wayne also raced go karts off and on through out the years and even raced RC cars in the mid 90's.  Wayne's favorite track was the great old Georgetown Speedway, for its long and wide corners, Wayne added.  Wayne pretty much grew up at a race track, as his Dad helped Eddie Pettyjohn with his car.

Wayne, as he grew played with Kenny and Mark Pettyjohn, and watching Eddie race, so Wayne learned a lot.  Wayne always has looked up to Eddy and admired his racing.  When Wayne was not on the track he worked, went to school, and worked on his race car.

Since Wayne last raced, he has been busy with his own business, has four wonderful kids, and a loving wife.  Wayne said, "I would get into a car any day just to be out on the track to have the rush and thrill of it all."

Many people may not know who Wayne yet many may remember him.  I  choose him and sat down with him and talked to him.  What my goal is to find and interview new drivers and some drivers that some may have forgotten.  I have many things planned so keep checking back to Birddawg's Backstretch.
