CINDY ROWE AUTO GLASS PA SPRINT SPEEDWEEK QUICKLY APPROACHING LINCOLN TO OPEN SERIES ON SATURDAY, JUNE 28 WITH 30 LAP KEVIN GOBRECHT MEMORIAL

York Haven, PA.....The 18th Annual Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek is set to start this coming weekend. The series of high profile races will include eight races in nine days time, at seven different Speedways.

Speedweek kicks off at Lincoln Speedway, near Hanover, on Saturday June 28th with the 30 lap Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race. The feature offers $7000 to the winner. Thundercars will also be a part of the program.

Sunday June 29 Speedweek moves to the Bedford Speedway for another 30 lap feature that offers $5000 to win. Bedford will also play host to the Hobbie/Cruisers and Four Cylinders. The Bedford show carries a rain date of Monday June 30.

The next show is set for Grandview Speedway, in Bechtelsville, on Tuesday July 1. This event is part of the popular Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. The 410 Sprints will battle in a 35 lap w$5000 to win battle on the "hill". Also on the program will be the popular 358 Modifieds, competing in three heat race events and a 25 lap feature. This event is an invitational for the Modifieds. Gates open at 5:30 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

Wednesday July 2, is set aside for the Hagerstown (MD) Speedway. Another 30 lap feature with $5000 to the winner. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will also have an Exhibition Show at Hagerstown.

Port Royal is the site of the Thursday July 3 show. Again it's 30 laps with $5000 to the winner.

Friday July 4 the action moves to the Williams Grove Speedway for the Mitch Smith Memorial Race. The race at the Grove is 30 laps with $10,000 to the winner. A Fireworks display will wrap up that program.

It's back to Port Royal on Saturday July 5 for a 30 lap feature that pays $7000 to the winner. The Pros tocks will be part of the Port's
program.

Speedweek wraps up on Sunday July 6 at the Selinsgrove Speedway. The Jan Opperman Memorial Race will offer $5000 to win the 30 lap feature.

All Speedweek events offer free camping at the Speedways.

The format for the Speedweek shows calls for time trials followed by heat races, a B-Main and the feature event.

Many sanctioned time trial events have been criticized for their lack of passing at the front of the field. If the recent Keystone Cup series is any indication, that won't be a problem during Speedweek.

During the five race Keystone Cup series only one event didn't feature a pass for the lead, and several had multiple passes at the front of the field.

The Keystone Cup opener at Grandview saw Jeff Shepard lead the whole distance, but he was challenged for the lead during most of the event.

When the Keystone Cup moved to Williams Grove, three different drivers led the feature race. Donnie Kreitz Jr., Cody Darrah, and eventual winner Brian Leppo all led.

Lincoln Speedway's event saw even more passing at the front, as Fred Rahmer, Brian Montieth, Mark Smith and eventual winner Stevie Smith all led the contest.

At Selinsgrove, during Keystone Cup, just two drivers held the lead, as Sean Michael led the early stages, before Leppo took the upper hand and then the win.

The final race of the Keystone Cup series also had just two different leaders, but they swapped the lead multiple times. Mark Smith led early before yielding to eventual winner Rahmer. However, Smith was able to wrest the lead back away from Rahmer, before Rahmer eventually made another pass for the lead.

Taking a look at Speedweek history shows that the Speedweek shows usually feature a pass for the lead at some point during the race. Since the turn of the decade there have been 59 Speedweek features. In 46 of those events there has been at least one pass for the lead. In many of those events there were multiple passes for the lead.

It varies by year. In 2000 all six races featured a pass for the lead, while in 2001, five of the eight shows had a pass for the top spot. 2002 saw races evenly divided with four featuring passes for the lead and four without a pass at the front. The 2003 season saw passes for the lead in all seven races held, and 2004, likewise, saw passes at the front in all eight shows.

In 2005 all but one of the eight races saw a pass for the top spot, while 2006's seven races also had a pass for the lead in all but one race.

Last year for whatever reason saw the least number of passes for the lead this century, with just three of the seven races featuring a change in the top spot. If the stats of the recent Keystone Cup are any indication, passing for the lead is back in vogue this season.

READING RACING REUNION AND DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW DATES CONFIRMED FOR 2009

Two of the biggest off season racing attractions now have their dates confirmed for 2009. Look for the 24th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show to return to the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Reading, PA, opening Sunday, February 22 and continuing through Saturday, February 28. At the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg, NJ, the 2nd Annual IRCO Community Federal Credit Union sponsored Dirt Track Heroes & Car Show will open on Sunday, March 8 and run through Saturday, March 14th. There will certainly be a few new twists for both shows so sit tight, enjoy the 2008 racing season and we'll see you on the 2009 Mall Tour. Look for the possibility of two other area Malls joining in on this great promotional opportunity for local motorsports.

For the NAPA Auto Parts Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show, the event will mark the thirtieth year since the final checker flag fell at the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway, the property now occupied by the Fairgrounds Square Mall. Event Organizer Bob Miller is actively working to bring Dave Kelly to the 2009 show. Kelly won the final event presented at Reading then went on to win numerous modified features before turning to the sprint cars where he again enjoyed great success. Dave Kelly is four time URC Champion and is ranked second on the all time URC career win list with seventy-six victories.

Interest is already plentiful for the coming 2009 Dirt Track Heroes & Car Show. IRCO Community Federal Credit Union will return once again as sponsor of the show. The crowds for this show were unbelievable with just shy of 13,000 visitors attending opening day of the show. Day seven topped that number with 15,000 mall walkers taking a look at seventy race cars and meeting some of  the all time favorite drivers of the past and present. During the week long show, approximately two-hundred interviews took place. Grandview Speedway saw a big benefit in the show, distributing more then 10,000 flyers and announcing their coming season. As for 2009, we look to include East Windsor and the Hatfield Speedways to the list of tracks to honor.

For now, the racing season is fast approaching, so take in a show at a track near you!

The Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show as well as the Dirt Track Heroes event is sponsored and supported by the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series, a wildly successful novelty promotion of mid-week racing at the popular Grandview Speedway. Thunder on the Hill will present its nineteenth season at the Grandview Speedway, located on Passmore Road, just ten mile north of Pottstown on Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA (19505). SAD BUT TRUE. . .
PHILLIPSBURG MALL TO PRESENT FINAL DAY OF THE IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES & CAR SHOW

Sad but true, after an exciting and fun week of old friends uniting and great race stories being told, the IRCO Community Credit Union Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will come to an end, Saturday, March 15 at 9 PM. Close to seventy cars filled the Phillipsburg Mall (Route 22 East Phillipsburg, NJ) and after six days of special activities, more then 200 interviews have taken place on center stage. Some of the greatest names from short track racings historic past have visited the mall along with numerous top guns from  the current day racing scene.

One major announcement of the week was Fred Rahmer sharing his plans to compete in the USAC National Wingless Sprint Tour event at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 3rd. The USAC wingless sprints were a crowd pleaser at Grandview in 2007 and they'll be returning again this year to thrill the fans. Rahmer, always a supporter of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series at Grandview is planning a big season, looking to compete in more than one-hundred races this year and yes, he'll be at Grandview without the wing. Local favorite Billy Pauch will also be racing "wingless on the hill", challenging the top sprint car drivers in the country, including defending race winner Levi Jones.

Frankie Schneider, Sammy Beavers, Carl VanHorn, Ray Neary, Tighe Scott. Freddy Adam, Earl Derr, Bobby Pickell and a list of drivers that would go on and on were just thrilled with the turnout. Without a doubt, this show was a huge success.

Mall Management and Dirt Track Heroes event coordinator Bob Miller are already busy looking for the 2009 date for this event. "The turnout was just awesome and exceeded our expectations. It's just a great show for our local tracks and fans as we honor the great memory makers of the past and use this as an opportunity to promote short track racing of today", commented Miller. Just during the week of the Dirt Track Heroes show, the Grandview Speedway distributed more than 10,000 schedules for the 2008 season.

With one day remaining, the crowds are again expected to be strong. Flemington Fair Speedway will get their salute beginning at 2 PM followed by a discussion on How to Restore a Race Car. Enjoy the stories of where some of these cars were found, how they were restored and the fun the owners have showing their cars at various events and functions.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended the show and the many folks who had a hand in making the show a success. In just a short period of time, we organized what turned into a major event", Miller explained. "Folks like Archie Myers, Steve & Ed Pados, Earl Krause, Ken Kuhlman and Greg Collins of IRCO, were all the driving force of bringing this show to reality".

What's going on Super Saturday?

Pen Argyl, PA- IRCO Sponsored Dirt TracK Heroes Show Enjoys Another Great Night With Hamlin, Borgers, And Snydersville Raceway Drivers Showcased

The Phillipsburg Mall IRCO Community Federal Credit Union sponsored Dirt Track Heroes Car Show launched day two of their week-long celebration of the great history of racing in the greater Lehigh Valley with a salute to the smaller dirt track raceways who are operating with great success in the immediate area. The two and one-half hour Monday night portion was an instant hit among the small car racing buffs in the area as the Mall was filled with racing fans who enjoy heading out to the Hamlin, Borgers, and Snydersville Raceways for their weekly racing adventures. Ed and Steve Pados from CARQUEST Gasoline Alley and On-Track TV Shows and veteran announcer Bob Stull kept the quickly paced show moving at a brisk pace as they introduced and interviewed more than 50 drivers and track personnel at center stage during the evening's festivities. Drivers from ages eight to fifty plus had the opportunity to talk first hand about their racing in 2007 and discuss the goals they have set for themselves with the 2008 racing season right around the corner.

Accord Speedway Slingshot Champion Zach "The Z-Man" O'Connell was on hand from New York State to talk about his plans in 2008 that will see him doubling up his racing with a new 305 CSRA Sprint Car to compliment his award winning Slingshot car. Kutztown Speedway Slingshot Champion Shannon Smith was on hand to talk about defending the title she won at Kutztown in 2007 and Borgers Friday night Slingshot Champion Tiffany Wambold talked about her plans that will see her acquiring some seat time in a family owned Pavement Modified car. Dan Miller talked about his championship run in the Karts at Snydersville and the hope he can find some funding to go big car racing in the future. All forms of small car racing were well represented and the great response from the drivers is a strong indication the future of racing remains bright and rests in the hands of many very capable and talented drivers.

The week long show continues on Tuesday night, March 11th, with a salute to the Area Auto Racing News racing paper. The newspaper, considered to be the bible for the local racers, will feature appearances AARN publisher Lenny Sammons, and writers Earl Krause, Randy Kane and Brett Deyo. Kutztown Speedway will join in the planned evening's events as well with drivers from the 1/5 mile Berks County oval being featured with interviews beginning at 6:30.

The week-long event kicked off on Sunday afternoon with a tremendous opening show. Drivers from the past, present and the future of auto racing gathered together amidst a huge jam-packed crowd of racing fans all seeking the opportunity to talk with their favorite stars and to view the impressive array of racing equipment being displayed throughout the Mall. More than 80-drivers gathered for the initial autograph session Show promoter Bob Miller lined up for the opening of the long-awaited show. More than 75 pieces of racing equipment are lined up throughout the Mall for fans to become more acquainted with the racing taking place throughout the area.

A special salute will continue throughout the week to the Harmony Speedway and to the drivers who were part of the history of the now defunct D-shaped raceway, and the Harmony Speedway Historical Society will be on site all week signing up new members.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

George ‘The General’ Lee Prepares For ’08 Buckeye State Tour

By Jarrod Lehman

Loudonville, OH --- With the 2008 Ohio dirt racing season inching closer and closer to starting popular central Ohio dirt Late Model racer George ‘The General’ Lee of Loudonville, OH is looking forward to competing at a wide variety of dirt tracks all across the state of Ohio in 2008 driving his Rocket Chassis/Malcuit Racing Engines #21 sponsored by Maibach Ford of Orrville, OH, Valvoline Oil, Bishop Collision Repair Center, American Payroll Advance, Cowen Truck Lines, Hague Crystal Clear Water, Mason Racin’, Bert Transmission, Hoosier Racing Tire & Reliable Mold.

“We are currently putting the final touches up our cars for the 2008 season,” revealed Lee, the 2007 Hilltop Speedway champion. “Due to obligations with Tim Cowen, I am going to be busy with a Craftsman Truck test in Martinsville, Va the middle of March then we are going to run the truck race at the end on March. So I don't really see us getting the car out to any tracks until the season opener at Hilltop on April 11th. If the weather permits, we might get to shake it down at April 5th practice at Hilltop.”

“We really don't have a set schedule in mind for ‘08, we are just going to look at the 3-4 hour window of traveling to races around us and see what works with all of our work schedules.”

Lee has served as crew chief for NASCAR Truck and Busch East driver Tim Cowen for a number of years in addition to his own busy dirt Late Model schedule. “Tim is planning on running some Bush East races this year, as well as a few Craftsman Truck races, so we are going to have another busy summer,” commented Lee.

“We have not really set a specific schedule as of today. We are going to get up and running and then look at the local area and what races we can get to with me and my crews’ work schedule. There are such a lot of good races that are going to be in our area again this year, between the IRS series, World of Outlaws, Lucas Oil, MACS and unsanctioned races at our local tracks, it is building up to be a great season.”

A new Rocket Chassis will also be among the arsenal at Lee’s disposal this season.

“After our bad crash at Hilltop last October, we lost a race car,” said Lee. “We were not planning on having to build another car, but the guys in the shop have worked their butts off putting together a new Rocket Chassis. Things are getting close to being finished.”

“This winter we were able to pick up a truck and trailer that we feel will help out our racing program. My van is getting tired and 3-4 hour trips were getting harder and harder to make so now we can make the longer trips with little more ease. And when we have to spend the night, we can sleep in the hauler & not at hotels.”

Lee appears extra motivated this season after a championship year, multiple wins at multiple tracks and two weeks in Florida for Speedweeks working in his capacity as manager of Mason Racin’. “This year I went to Florida again for Speedweeks at East Bay and Volusia and man, I am ready to race!”

“One thing that I came home fired up about was the safety issue with our cars. With the wrecks that we saw in Florida, it only backs up our thinking about containment seats. I had installed one in my car last year and man what a difference. Sure it is tough getting into and out of the car but after the crash at Hilltop in October, I sure was thankful I had it. Everyone reading this should really stop and think about putting one into their car.”

“I have told a lot of people this winter about them and I have heard a lot of racers say ‘we don’t need them’ and ‘we should not be spending money on a seat’. Well, I feel that it is money well spent. You cant put a price on safety.”

Team GLR still has merchandise available. “We still have some 2007 Team GLR racing shirts left as well as hoodie sweatshirts,” said Lee. “You can contact me via my website www.georgeleeracing.com  to purchase yours.”

Lee’s championship crew consists of Jeff (Root) Long, Dave Hazelet, Kerrissa Darr, Aaron Hullett, Mark & Ed Hagen and Sherri Lee.

Despite a championship season and a personal best in feature wins, Lee and the team are not resting on their laurels.

“The competition is so tough today that even if you are off the slight least bit, someone else is there to pounce because they were just a little better than you at that time,” commented Lee. “Our goal is to prepare our cars like we did last winter, then keep focus as we enter the ‘08 season because I have raised the bar for me and my crew and I really would like to have a better season in ‘08 for them and my sponsors.”

It is the first year, commented promoter Richard Pearson, but we hope it is a hit so we can keep coming back.  We’ve asked for any drivers in racing to come and display their car for fans to see, along with seeing drivers’ new paint schemes.  We don’t really have a limited set amount of cars to display and there is no dead line to enter; although, by Friday, March 21, I hope to have a pretty good idea of number of cars.  All entries will receive a dash plague, too.

We’re having an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids; for adults an Egg Drop race for fun.  Music, Driver autographs, all kind of race items for sale, starting at .99 cents, Pearson remarked.

Get your engine running by enjoying a little pre-season fun and come see those fast, furious, pure racing cars of force up close.  It’s free!  Can’t go wrong!

URC driver Chris Coyle will be on hand to announce his plans for 2008 along with sponsor Chad Sinon. Coyle will be sporting the popular BPG Motorsports colors and numbers on the URC tour of 2008. Modified, Late Model, ARDC Midget and Micro-Sprint drivers will be on hand for interviews.

On Friday night, the Legends Reunion will steal the show as the popular great drivers and racing personalities gather on the sacred Reading Fairgrounds property just one more time. The Legends Reunion will get underway at 7 PM with a special salute to sprint car stars Smokey Snellbaker and Van May, two winning drivers at the Fairgrounds oval. There will also be a special salute to URC drivers Kramer Williamson and Glenn Fitzcharles who were both recent inductees into the Knoxville Sprint Car Hall of Fame.

Following the Reunion, the gang will move to the Temple Fire Company for The BASH Racing Movie Party sponsored by Lee Myles Transmissions on the 5th Street Highway. The Lee Myles BASH Racing Movie Party is set for Friday night, February 29 at the Temple Fire Company with doors opening at 8:30 PM with The BASH continuing to at least 1 AM. Music for dancing, great racing movies from the past and  present and plenty of fun is planned for all who attend. The BASH has quickly become a " don't miss-fun event" as many local drivers attend, offering fans an opportunity to meet them away from the race track.

Admission to The BASH Racing Movie Party is just $10. Tickets may be purchased during the Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show at the event shirt stand at center court of the Mall. Tickets may also be purchased in advance by sending a check or money order to Speedway Promotions 129 Mill Pond Place Langhorne, PA 19047. Please make your check payable to Speedway Promotions and enclose a self addressed and stamped envelop. Because of limited seating and an always large turnout, it's a good  idea to get your tickets in advance. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, but a sell out is expected. There will be a cash bar available as well. Also part of The BASH will be the presentation of the Car Show Special Awards.

On Saturday, the final day of the show, the Ms. Micro Sprint Competition will take place at Center Court at 1 PM along with interviews for the drivers of go-karts, micro sprints, slingshots. legends and a salute to the quarter-midget drivers of today..
