ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti Saves Best For Last To Record Accord Speedway's King Of The Catskills Triumph
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The crazy weather patterns in the Northeast continued to play a role in the Accord Speedway racing season as the heavy rainfall that fell from last Friday's scheduled event all of the way through Thursday night left the Accord Speedway with a very soggy race track. Undaunted, Promoter Gary Palmer went to work to clear the water and attempt to squeeze out the all of the moisture in his race track in preparation for the two day King of the Catskills weekend spectacular. Working right up until race time, the track was still a bit soft in turn three but a larger problem emerged as the lights in turn three failed to respond when they were turned on. A crew was dispatched to find the problem and in the meantime the racing commenced and chasing a time line of an impending storm in the area. All of the heats were run off and the light came back on thanks to the hard work of Jimmy Johnston, John Rezzo, Charlie Rose and Kurt Cross. With the completion of the consolation events, the features took to the track with Shawn Maloney being victorious in the wild Four Cylinder scramble and Rich Woods continuing to do great work in the KM Powersports sponsored speed buggy to claim another win in the Lightning Sprint headliner. The ROC 100 lap Modified event took to the speedway with a couple of sprinkles of rain falling at times. 26 of the finest Modifieds on the East Coast today took off in a run for the roses and when the the event hit the 50 lap mark for the fuel stop, the skies opened up and halted the exciting racing action. After the track staff attempted to squeeze out the moisture from the speedway, the rain intensified and the event was called official with Andy Bachetti claiming the win and a $7,000.00 payday in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane. WLR Construction is the headline sponsored for the King of the Catskills weekend.
Michael Storms and Rookie Modified star from New Jersey David Hunt brought the star laden field to the green flag to open the event. Storms grabbed the lead and led the first four laps before Hunt seized the top spot with an excellent run off of turn two as he drove by on the inside of Storms. A restart saw Storms regain the top spot with Hunt going around in turn two with some assistance. Storm was back up front on the restart for two laps before Andy Bachetti used a power move to drive into the lead. Just as quickly, six time Fonda Speedway Champion Bobby Varin came calling bearing a gift of speed that propelled him by Storms and into the runner-up slot. Duane Howard, driving the Atlas Paving car, moved into the mix as he drove by Storms and set his sights on Varin.
Bachetti, who was missing in action the last two weeks of the Accord season, was on the mark as he held off the advances of Varin to keep the field at bay. Howard pressured Varin for some laps and settled in to third place and the action behind the top three was heated each step of the way. Jeff Heotzler, Brett Hearn and Danny Johnson were waged in a battle of their own and soon to join them would be Jeff Strunk who had worked his way back through the field after an early pit stop. On lap 48, rain began to fall and the race was cautioned at the 50 lap mark for the refuel. The rain intensified and the track crew sprung into action but the rain was persistent leaving track officials no recourse but to call the event official. Andy Bachetti was the winner of the event and that marked his first victory of the season at Accord and it was without a doubt the most opportune time to drive your race car into victory lane. Bobby Varin, sporting Big Block power in the Pedrick/Romano hot rod, was the second place man with Duane Howard in third place, Jeff Heotzler in fourth and Accord Speedway track champion Brett Hearn competing the top five. Jeff Strunk headed up the second five with Justin Holland, Mike Ricci, Butch Tittle and Pat Ward completing the top ten.
Ralph Utter took the lead at the drop of the green flag for the Lightning Sprint headliner and remained at the front of the front of the field through the first three laps of the event until a caution was brought out for the Kyle Smith racer who got upside down in turn one. Rich Woods, who has been at the controls of the KM Powersports hot rod since Matt Norrie was injured, found a seam off of the bottom of the raceway on turn two and stormed into the lead when racing resumed. Doug Norrie was putting on a rim riding exhibition at the top of the Accord staircase and challenged Woods for a few laps until hard riding Justin Phillips emerged as a contender. Phillips went to work on Norrie and soon found a channel to ease his way by Utter and then Norrie. A the race went into the latter stages, Norrie met up with the unforgiving backstretch boiler plate and ended his night. In lapped traffic Woods took his time to slip through traffic and Phillips sliced into the lead lap after lap until the pair were nose to tail. Woods still had some go-power in the tank and once he cleared traffic went on to a four car length win over Phillips. Joe Szczapa had a nice drive for third with Ralph Utter holding down fourth and 2011 track champion Peter Dance completing the top five. Youngster Christian Wright, Will Casazza, Jerry Sehn, Rick Stone, and Mark Taylor completed the top ten.
Robert Beach led the first three laps of the Four Cylinder event until a scramble with Walt Henry forced both cars to the back of the bus for the restart. On the restart it was Alan Houghtaling in command and he drove away from the field until a caution slowed the action on lap ten. When racing resumed it was Beach on the attack as he raced his way back into contention and then took over the lead as Houghtaling slowed on the racetrack. On the restart once again it was Beach in command but he had an encounter with Steve Schmitz in turn two and it slowed down both competitors as Shawn Maloney slipped by both to take over the lead. Maloney led the remaining laps to claim the win with Walt Henry in the runner-up role, John Davis in third, Schmitz in fourth and Beach rounding out the top five.
MUDPLUGS:
The showcased event of the season at Accord for the Palmer Family was another spectacular event for the successful promotional team now in their eleventh season at operating the Ulster County facility. Even with the foils of Mother Nature halting the action earlier than scheduled, the racing was great as every Modified and Sportsman heat resembled a mini feature event. Racing fans came from far and wide with as many as twelve states representing the statewide support of the tremendous weekend of racing activity. Parking was at a premium and the grounds were abuzz with excitement for the long awaited weekend of racing at the "Gem in the Catskills". The turnstiles of fans filled the concession areas all night long as the great cuisine at the speedway is gaining much the same reputation as the great racing at the speedway.
44 Modifieds made their way to the pit area. With the ROC title chase still waiting to play out, the racing was hard and fast and the quality field of racers put on a whale of a show throughout the evening. The heat action alone was well worth the price of an admission ticket and the consolation events were much the same. Four cars transferred out of each Modified heat and Danny Tyler, Duane Howard, Jeff Heotzler, Jamie Yannone, Brett Hearn and Bobby Varin captured the exciting heat action wins. Two consolation events were won by Mel Schrufer and ROC Dirt Series leader Billy Decker. Sportsman heats went to Shane Jablonka, Ryan Stortini and Charlie Hendrickson. The Sportsman Consolation was claimed by Brad Szulewski. Lightning Sprint heat winners were Ralph Utter and Kyle Smith.
The postponed Sportsman 50 lap main event will be showcased at a remaining event on the Accord calendar.
New faces emerged in the pit area with Wade Hendrickson, Billy Decker, Mike Mahaney and Jeff Strunk making their first stops at the Accord speedplant. Ryan Watt had raced with the ARDC Midgets in the past at Accord and David Hunt raced in the Sportsman event last season. Pete Gardner made a return to racing action aboard the Escpae RV hot rod. Chris Shultz and Craig Mitchell were both on hand from the Orange County contingent and didn't make through the transfer.
Gus Zygmunt from the Crystal Restaurant in Pine Island, New York was on hand for the event as was 23 time Grammy winner Polka legend Jimmy Sturr. Sturr brought along some rollicking Polka music off a Sturr CD that was played while the lights were off for ten minutes. Sturr interviewed with Announcer Steve Pados and said he would be at the Best Western in Matamoras, Pennsylvania on December 3rd and 4th with his annual Christmas show. ROC Promoter Andy Harpell interviewed as well and explained the series both dirt and pavement and talked about his ROC season closer on October 28th and 29th at the Five Mile Point Speedway.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Accord Speedway Offers Diverse Racing Format For Saturday Portion At King Of The Catskills
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
With four exciting divisions highlighting the opening night of the King of the Catskills weekend at the Accord Speedway on September 30th, the Palmer Family will play host to five divisions of racing excitement on Saturday, October 1st to top off what just may be the greatest weekend in the history of the speedway. The five divisions of racing going to battle are as diverse as one can imagine and the stars and cars of the racing weekend will be highlighted each step of the way. A healthy purse is in place for both days with big buckson the line for the Healey Brothers Group Spec Sportsman racers as they will see action in a fifty lap shootout that will see the winner enjoy the spoils in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane before heading over to checkout at the payoff window to the tune of $2,000.00. "Hollywood" Whitey Slavin, a three time feature event winner in 2011 and the third place man in points at Accord, will headline the list of driving stars heading to Ulster County to do battle. One of the hot drivers on the circuit right now is the runner-up man in points at Accord "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson as he has captured wins at Lebanon Valley Speedway and at Accord in the final events heading into this weekend of racing. A great supporting cast will be on hand as track regulars "Double J" Joe Judge, "The Ironman" Mike DuBois, Patrick Murphy, Wayne Devantoy, John Sundlof, Phil Johnson, Kyle Van Duser, Tyler Dippel, Lem Atkins, Phil Recchio, and a host of Accord regulars will be in action. Orange County racers Tyler McKee, Andrew Reaves and Frank Venezia tested their racers two weeks ago at the speedway with good results and top shoe Kenny Hinsch returned to action in the past couple of weeks. "Rollin" Mike Tholin tested the Accord waters a week ago and recently scored a fourth place finish at the big Crate event at Glen Ridge. Chris McCoy also was in action for the first time one week ago.
The CRSA Racesavers Sprint Cars have been testing the waters at many speedways over the course of the 2011 racing season and this band of winged warriors comes into Accord with a very tight points battle in place as their season begins to wind down. Chad King comes into the event with a 24 point lead over rookie John Virgilio and converted Modified star Jamie Christian. Brett Jaycox, Josh Pieniazek, John Cunningham, Brittany Tresch, Warren Alexson, Billy Jaycox, Art Kiser, JR Hurlburt, Tyler Chartrand, Tommy Martocci, Jeff Van Steenburg, Tyler Rice, Phil Peworchik, John Matrafailo, Curtis June, Billy Van Inwegen, Frank Lieto, and Jeremy Quick are all expected in for this exciting regional Racesaver event. Craig Rochelle was the victor the last time the Series visited the speedway and will be back on hand for the upcoming event. From the TSRS Series, talented wheel twisters out of New Jersey Stephanie Stevens and Jeff Taylor will be on hand and noted car owner Rob Warko from Pennsylvania informed the speedway he will have two cars in action with Matt Mountz and Joe Smith at the controls of the racers. As the event is open to all 305 racers within the Tri State area, the event will be a great addition to the King of the Catskills weekend.
Second place man in points, John Roese will lead the contingent of DC Landscaping Pro Stocks to the post on Saturday. Roese is coming off a year in which he scored three wins during the season and came up just four points short in landing the track title. Roese is the only Pro Stocker in the field that utilizes a Ford motor for the go-power. Torin Betterton, fresh off a win a week ago at Accord, will be back in the field along with third place man in points Tom Vasta. Al Christiana, Paul Aragon, Jimmy Sykes, John Rood, Dave Demorest, Ralph Ronk, Ron Rion, Clarence Smith and a host of outsiders will join in seeking to gain their fair share of the Accord pie.
The Arkel Motors Pure Stock Division was highly entertaining all season long and heading the list of hopefuls will be "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino. Tarantino comes into the weekend fresh off a four season win and a track championship performance at Accord. "The Rebel" Tim Brown returned to action last week and the two time winner in 2011 always comes to the post with a formidable hot rod. Ryan Johnson, Joe Narok, Gary Predmore, Jimmy Cuneo, Mike Deyo, Steve Cooper, John Woinoski, Eugene Helms, Chris Kanuk, Harry Bachman and a host of others will put on a great show for the fans come Saturday.
The National Junior Slingshot Tour comes into the Accord Speedway under a full head of steam after a stunning exhibition two weeks ago in the curtain closer for the Hamlin Speedway. Twenty two "stars of tomorrow" competed at the Hamlin event and all indications is most of the great young talent will be in action at Accord as well. Heading the lst of talent will be Accord regular "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston as the thirteen year old speedster comes into the weekend with a fifty point lead over "The Midget" Chris Kurtz. in the National rankings. Johnston hopes to end the season with the Junior Slingshot title in hand as he will step into the Spec Sportsman ranks in 2012 aboard one of the Sherlock Tri State Roofing speed buggys that Johnston debuted at Accord last week with a fourteenth place performance. Kurtz has been phemomenal in 2011 with his second place ranking on the tour and second place finishes at both the Accord and Hamlin Speedways during the season. "The Jonestown Jet" Kyle Gruber put in one show at Accord during the season and the youngster has improved each time he buckles into the famly owned racer and now rests in third place on the tour. "Thrillin" Dylan Martin has been named the 2011 champion at Hamlin and has enjoyed great success in his limited appearances at the Accord facility. Wyalusing regulars "The Abbey-nator" Abbey Price and Alex Shaffer will land on the Accord grounds this weekend. For Price it will be her first competition at Accord but Shaffer has been a limited visitor with great credentials each time he arrives at the speedway. Accord Speedway Junior Slingshot champion "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel will head the great list of talented drivers planting their tire prints into the Accord clay this weekend. "The Predator" Kevin Predmore, Brandon "Juan Pablo" McGill, "The Flash" Bobby Flood, Collin DuBois, "The Bullville Bandit" Tommy Zwart, Michelle Campbell, Jared Labagh, Matthew Shultz and a host of others will join the parade onto the Accord Speedway grounds and the great Accord loyal fans will see first hand that the future of auto racing is in great hands with the "stars of tomorrow" working their magic on the high banks of the quarter mile Accord speedplant.
The Accord Speedway racing season was another great one even though Mother Nature dropped in on occasion to rain on the Accord parade. All told eight cancellations on Friday and three on Wednesday were necessitated by rain or some atrocity of the weather that included the Hurricane Irene deluge that knocked out power in Ulster County for nine days.
Even so, the racing action was extraordinary as the competition in all divisions goes the extra mile to put on a great show for the loyal Accord fan base. Promoter Gary Palmer continues to work his magic on the racy quarter mile speedplant and the side by side, three and four wide racing action is a tribute to the time and effort Palmer puts into the facility that attracts a fan base from six states on a weekly basis. The four divisions of racing on Friday evening and the five divisions on Saturday are a bargain for the racing fans as each competing division has it's own stars and fanfare and will create a rocking great time in the foothills of Ulster County.
Racing every Friday night from April through September. September 30th and October 1st finds the "King of the Catskills" weekend of great racing in the house and WLR Construction serving as the headline sponsor for the event. ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Accord Speedway Hosts King Of The Catskills Weekend After One Week
Delay
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
With Mother Nature continuing to play havoc with the Accord Speedway racing
schedule, Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer and staff will once again utilize a
raindate to usher in the nine great divisions of racing and the expected large
crowds of eager race fans anxious to see their favorite racing heroes perform on
the pristine, high banked quarter mile Ulster County speedplant on September
30th and October 1st. Gary Palmer has worked tirelessly in his efforts at giving
the combatants a moist and tacky track surface they can race from wall to wall
throughout the weekend. During the 2011 racing season at Accord new marks were
established for the Modified and Lightning Sprint divisions with Brett Hearn
breaking down the old barrier a few times before nailing a 12.524 second lap
earlier in the season and a couple of the Lightning Sprint racers were posting
times in the 12.2 second lap mark. Donna Palmer will work her magic with great
attention to all of the event details from ticket sales to the food concessions
as the well noted kitchen at Accord has been serving up great cuisine all season
long. The weekend of events is sponsored by Bill Rumsey and his WLR Construction
Team.
The Friday night portion of the weekend will bring in four divisions of hot rod
racers and all with special events to try their hands at winning at Accord. The
Friday evening portion will bring in the highly successful ROC Modified Dirt
Tour with their stars and cars to battle it out with the hometown aces of the
Accord Speedway. Two ROC events remain in 2011 with the King of the Catskills
100 lap event plus the October 29th Southern Tier 100 to be held at the Five
Mile Point Speedway and all drivers hoping to gain the ROC title or seek to move
up in the point standings will make sure they are part of the prestigious Accord
event. The ROC contingent is led by "The Franklin Flyer" Billy Decker as the
Gypsum Express driving ace leads the point standings with 523 points. On his
heels will be the defending King of the Catskills winner from a season ago "The
Doctor" Danny Johnson as the Rochester racing surgeon comes into the event tied
with the defending champion of the series, "The Canadian Sensation" Stewart
Friesen with each having earned 488 points to date. Three time winner in the
series in 2011, Jeff Strunk has alerted track officials he will be at the event
and sits in fourth place with 455 tallies to his credit. "Super" Matt Sheppard
completes the top five with 413 points earned to date. The remainder of the top
ten includes "The Genoa Giant" Pat Ward, Accord Speedway track champion Brett
Hearn, Victoria and New Yorker winner at Utica Rome Bobby Varin, "The Sandman"
Duane Howard and "The Electric Company" Ryan Watt. Accord will counter with some
great in-house driving talent as "The Commander" Brett Hearn heads-up the Accord
roster list of hopefuls. "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie and 2009 winner of the
King of the Catskills event will be ready to go after winning his first event of
the season last Friday evening. "Showtime" Danny Tyler, "DC" Danny Creeden, "The
Jeffer" Jeff Heotzler, "Iron" Mike Ricci, and two time feature winner
"Primetime' Scott Ferrier will do their best to hold off the onslaught of top
invading drivers looking for the $7,000.00 pot of gold at the Lucas Oil Products
Victory Lane.
The Camper's Barn Sportsman will be in action and pointing towards a $2,000.00
prize in a 50-lap battle of the top Sportsman drivers in the area. "Mr
Excitement" Kevin Ward graced victory lane on six occasions in 2011 and captured
the track championship and he will be dealing with a host of top campaigners
including Shane Jablonka, David Coene, Jeff Hulseapple, Vinny DeCicco, Jesse
Marks, and recent Penn Can winner Anthony Perrego as they go head to head in
their biggest event of the season. Five Mile Point track champion Nick Petrilak
has confirmed to Accord Media correspondent Steve Pados he will be making the
trip to Accord to do battle.
The thrill a second Lightning Sprints will be in action on Friday evening and
new track champion Peter Dance will have his hands full with a great roster of
driving talent that have found the short way around the Accord oval. With the
lap times falling with each appearance, it is quite possible to see a new track
record when the evening comes to a close. Rich Woods, Doug Norrie, Justin
Phillips, Jon Moore, Kyle Smith, Jerry Sehn, Joe Szczapa, the Casazza Brothers,
Ralph Utter and a host of others will add to the luster of the evening as the
winged warriors give the fans their money's worth when they play at the "Gem in
the Catskills".
The wild and zany, go for broke Four Cylinder division will also take part in
the Friday night show. The low budget, great fun division was an add-on to the
Midweek Madness Wednesday Summer Series at Accord and quickly became a favorite
of the crowd with the side by side and nose to tail driving done by the drivers.
Champions Walt Henry and John Davis headline the performers with additional
strength coming from the likes of Dan Curry, Robert Beach, Sarah Bohlin, Tasha
Curry, Dan Sanchez and many more.
The Accord Speedway racing season was another great one even though Mother
Nature dropped in on occasion to rain on the Accord parade. All told eight
cancellations on Friday and three on Wednesdays were necessitated by rain or
some atrocity of the weather that included the Hurricane Irene deluge that
knocked out power in Ulster County for nine days.

goes the extra mile to put on a great show for the loyal Accord fan base.
Promoter Gary Palmer continues to work his magic on the racy quarter mile
speedplant and the side by side, three and four wide racing action is a tribute
to the time and effort Palmer puts into the facility that attracts a fan base
from six states on a weekly basis. The four divisions of racing on Friday
evening are a bargain for the racing fans as each competing division has it's
own stars and fanfare and will create a rocking great time in the foothills of
Ulster County.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series
RYAN BERNAL STORMS TO HANFORD VICTORY
By Lance Jennings
HANFORD, CA – SEPTEMBER 26, 2011... Hollister's Ryan Bernal continued his
winning ways last Saturday night by scoring the 30-lap feature at Hanford's
Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway. The victory marked his fourth triumph with the
USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series and closed the gap to fifty-five points
behind leader Richard VanderWeerd.
Starting on the pole position of the main event, Bernal took the lead from Marty
Hawkins on lap four and fought off numerous challenges from sixth starting
Dennis Howell. As Hawkins faded back in the field, Richard VanderWeerd grabbed
third and looked to catch the leaders. The battle for fourth became an absolute
war between "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. and Peter Murphy. The veteran drivers
repeatedly traded positions back and fourth throughout the Hanford clay oval.
Several yellow flags halted the action and Bernal executed great restarts to
shake free from Howell. Lapped traffic would become a factor, but the leaders
were able to slice their way through. The Faria-Murphy war continued to rage and
the racing surface still had some bite through the final laps. The top groove
running Faria bicycled his mount, resulting in the loss of several spots. Murphy
continued his advance and slid past VanderWeerd for third. At the checkered
flags, Bernal took the win followed by Howell, Murphy, VanderWeerd, and Wes
Gutierrez.
Piloting Danny Olmstead's #11D S&S Automotive / Dorso's Automotive Maxim, Ryan
Bernal tied Bud Kaeding with his series leading fourth main event victory. After
equipment failures cancelled time trials, the former Wingless Spec Sprint
Champion won the night's Extreme Muffler's Heat Race #1. Currently second in the
standings, Bernal still has a mathematical chance to win the title at Tulare on
October 8th. To date, Ryan has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, three
heat race victories, eleven top-10 finishes, and leads the series with 143
feature laps led.

Earlier in the program, Evans finished sixth in his heat race.

Products / Keizer Wheels Heat Race #2. Piloting the #3M Blakeley Landscaping /
The Toiyabe Group Schnee, Hawkins led the first three laps before suffering a

Big $13,000 Victory At McKean County Raceway Puts A Smile On Chub Frank’s Face
BEAR LAKE, PA – Sept. 26, 2011 – Chub Frank finally grabbed the big victory he’s
been craving on Saturday night at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa.
Driving his bright-orange Rocket car with a Roush-Yates Chevy engine under the
hood, the 49-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., roared to a lucrative $13,000
triumph in the Northern Tier United Late Model Series ‘Priority Care Race FAN
50’ at a one-third-mile oval located just 90 minutes from his shop.
It was Frank’s third feature win of 2011 but definitely his most important; his
previous scores came in weekly shows at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. In
addition, it marked the richest checkered flag for ‘Chubzilla’ since he captured
a $20,000 World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in August 2009 at Ohio’s K-C
Raceway.
“We needed it real bad,” said Frank, who fields his own race team with
assistance from a list of sponsors that includes Corry Rubber, Hino Toyota and
Horton Equipment. “Property taxes are due this week, bills need to be paid…a
$13,000 win definitely helps in that department.”
Frank certainly earned every cent of his five-figure payoff, turning back
challenges from fellow WoO LMS regular Rick Eckert and Dan Stone to register his
fourth career ULMS victory. He started fourth and grabbed the lead from his
cousin (and former crew chief) Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs on lap five, but both Eckert
and Stone got close enough to threaten him. Stone even nosed ahead briefly to
lead lap 36.
“Dan had a good race car, but he was out there in no-man’s land,” Frank said of
Stone’s bid to use the outside of the oval. “The way the racetrack was, when you
got behind somebody the dust would kick out there and it was like racing on
marbles. The closer you got to ‘em, the harder it was to pass ‘em.
“Well, when Dan got by me on the outside, I had one of my customers in front of
me and I had some trouble getting by him. I finally got into him enough to move
him up the racetrack so I could get by him – and then with Dan hung up there on
top, I was able to get back ahead of him and hold on to the end.”
Frank crossed the finish line ahead of Eckert. Stone settled for third and
Briggs was fourth.
The triumph sent Frank home with a big smile on his face.
“It felt good,” Frank said of his win. “Things have been better the last few
weeks. We made some changes on the car and it’s good, and the Roush-Yates motor
(which he recently debuted) definitely has helped it.
“And my hand’s really not bothering me too bad,” he continued, alluding to the
broken right thumb that he’s been driving with since injuring it in a heat-race
tangle during the World 100 at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway on Sept. 10. “It’s not
healed up yet, but it’s just kind of sore like a toothache right now. The brace
I’m using now when I drive has definitely made a difference.”
Frank said he’s considering traveling to Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in
Peebles, Ohio, this weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) for the ‘Billy Bob’ events, but
he’ll wait until later in the week to make a final determination. He’ll be
spending most of his time this week assembling a new Rocket car that he plans to
debut in the next WoO LMS event, on Oct. 6 at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in
Elbridge, N.Y.
For more information on Chub Frank, visit his Web site at
www.chubfrank.com.
Chub Frank Racing receives support from many valued sponsors, including Corry
Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, Horton
Equipment, All-Star Performance, Slavic Corporation, Custom Race Engines, GW
Performance, Integra Shocks, Hoosier Tire and Roush-Yates Racing Engines.

Josh Richards NCWTS Kentucky Speedway
Advance
RACE: Kentucky 225
TRACK: Kentucky Speedway
TRUCK: No. 51 Joy Mining Machinery
Toyota Tundra
TEAM: Kyle Busch Motorsports
PRIMARY CHASSIS: KBM-3
BACKUP CHASSIS: KBM-2
MOTOR: Triad Racing Technologies
BROADCAST: Saturday, October 1;
8:00 p.m. ET. SPEED/PRN/Sirius NASCAR 90
NOTES AND QUOTES:
Josh
Richards made his debut in the NASCAR Camping World
Truck Series (NCWTS) at Kentucky Speedway in July.
On Saturday, Richards will pilot the No. 51 Joy
Mining Machinery Tundra in his sixth NCWTS start
this season. In his first race at the 1.5-mile
D-shaped oval, Richards started 24th and finished
29th when his night came to an abrupt end after the
Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra was collected in
a spin involving series veteran Ron Hornaday just
past the midway point of the race. Although the
night didn't end the way Richards would have wanted,
the 23-year-old driver felt like he learned a lot in
his first series start.
Partner Joy Mining Machinery will have more than 200
guests in attendance at Saturday's race.
In
addition to his debut race in the NCWTS at Kentucky,
Richards also has two career starts on the
speedway's 1.5-mile oval in the ARCA Racing Series.
Driver Josh Richards on his second start at
Kentucky Speedway:
"I'm
glad we get to return Kentucky (Speedway) this
season. The first race was definitely a learning
experience but also disappointing since we didn't
get to finish the race. To have the opportunity to
come back this quickly I think will be helpful. KBM
is bringing the same truck back to the track that I
raced at the first race at Kentucky and my last race
in Atlanta, and with the added experience I'm really
looking forward to this race. Joy Mining Machinery
has invited over 200 employees and family members to
the race, so it will be cool once again to have that
support in the stands from such a great partner."
Crew Chief Rick Ren:
It's the first time Josh is returning to a track
he's raced in the truck series this year, will that
help him a lot at Kentucky?
"Yeah, I think anytime a driver goes back to a track
he has experience on, it gives a him a shot at
having a much better performance. More importantly I
think that in our last few races he's improved a
lot. We had a really good run at Atlanta, Josh and
his race ability was far greater at Atlanta than the
previous races, so I'm really looking forward to
returning to Kentucky and getting him back to where
he's already raced. I think with what he's learned
since then and the Joy Mining Machinery Toyota
Tundra we've prepared to bring to the track this
weekend, I expect better results for our second go
round."
Having raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway, on what's
considered one of the faster, more difficult 1.5
mile tracks where he did well in practice and
qualifying, and raced well; do you think the
confidence he gained there will help him at
Kentucky, a 1.5 mile track that's considered not as
difficult?
"Yeah, I put some pressure on him going into Atlanta
about how difficult that place was going to be. I've
been trying to get him to be more aggressive and
attack the racetrack as soon as he gets in the truck
for practice. He really showed that in Atlanta. If
he can go to Kentucky and unload and immediately
attack the track, we ultimately get a lot better
feedback and a lot better results; and he'll go
there with a lot better state of mind and
confidence. If a driver is able to immediately
attack the track then he'll start having confidence
in the equipment and his ability, and it just makes
things progress a lot faster. If he can do that, I
think it will speed up everything and I really think
we'll be pretty fast when we unload there."
CHASSIS SELECTION
Primary Chassis: KBM-3: Chassis 3 was the Toyota
Tundra Richards raced at the July Kentucky Speedway
race in his NCWTS debut. Richards also drove KBM-3
in his last NCWTS race at Atlanta Motor Speedway
where he started ninth and finished 21st.
