Conley Captures 543 'Keeps on Ticking'
Bond Badgers AMRA Mods; Adams Again! Claims Win #26
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS! Let's get a great crowd pumped up
Oct. 1 and primed for the DTWC
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- The exclamation "Wow!" sums up the drama at Jeff and Vicki
Schrader's K-C Raceway Saturday night where 87 cars in three divisions dazzled
the crowd on what proved to be one of the fastest racing surfaces of the year.
Hall of Fame Late Model chauffer Delmas Conley, the ageless 8th wonder of the
world now with 543 career wins, claimed the AMRA Late Model main; while
Coolville, Ohio's Andy Bond made a last lap pass of Jeremy Rayburn for the AMRA
Advanced Services Modified win. Jamey Adams, reportedly with 26 feature wins in
2011, continued his banner season with a big win in the Hobby Stocks.
"It was do or die," said Bond in victory lane. "We had a great little race going
there. The car was great and I think I used every part of the track. A few times
I think I even used the wall. Thanks to Ernie (Hoschar) and the guys for getting
this car right. All I have to do is get in it and drive. What a race!"
The former AMRA National Champion and one-time winningest modified driver in the
nation used a portion of the turn four wall as part of a run off the high side
on the final lap. Bond had the momentum over low rider Jeremy Rayburn and won by
a nose at the finish.
Once again 47 of the nation's best modifieds filed into K-C Raceway in the
tune-up for the Dirt Track World Championship, held there Oct. 13-14-15. Early
in the event Beckley, WV invader Joe Cox set the pace for the first six laps.
Hot shoes Rayburn and AMRA stalwart Mike McPherson both zoomed past Cox on the
next circuit and battled viciously, side-by-side, nose-to-tail for the next 15
laps. Both were running the races of their lives, while thrilling the fans in
what looked to be a great finish between the duo.
The battle for third was a battle-royal between Bond, Fireball Pinkerton, Cox,
Jason Brooks, Doug Henry, and Bob Crace, Jr. That hungry pack raced two-wide,
nose-to-tail for six circuits, before Bond broke free in a crack-the-whip type
move. Pinkerton had moved into the fray from 12th to fourth, and Brooks up from
11th.
Rayburn and McPherson continued their charge. Rayburn was in command, smoothly
on the bottom while McPherson skip-jacked high and low up to Rayburn's door
handles without enough zap for the pass. That duo two had moved quickly up the
ladder--Rayburn from 8th and McPherson from seventh during the first six
encounters.
Bond was nearly 12 car lengths behind when he started his charge to the front.
Slowly gaining ground, sparks flying from encounters with the wall, he kept
gaining turf lap after lap. Bond now was within 3 car lengths of the leaders and
had a head of steam. Pinkerton broke away from his group for fourth, then AMRA
leader Kenny Johnson blasted by for the one-up. Johnson himself had charged from
9th on a track that saw multiple pass exchanges from 1st to 20th.
As the race approached the 13th marker, Brooks, Rick Venham, Jr., Greggie
Oliver, Robin Duston, and Matt Holcomb made charges toward the top ten. Venham
rode a 14th to 6th trot toward another solid AMRA run.
As lap 16 came to completion, the complexion of the race changed dramatically.
McPherson made a bid for the lead as Rayburn shut the door with McPherson
spinning and collecting KC point’s leader Pinkerton, sending both to the tail
and putting Bond on Rayburn's hind quarters.
Bond dogged Rayburn the last four laps; Rayburn smooth and fast on the bottom
and Bond high against the wall. Bond drove it in scary-hard into three on the
final circuit and rode the momentum to the win.
Rounding out the top ten were Bond, Rayburn, Johnson, Cox, Brooks, Venham,
Greggie Oliver, Matt E. Holcomb, Rob Stambaugh, and Robin Duston. Holcomb was
hard-charger in an 18th to 8th place run.
After the lap 16 accident, Pinkerton dropped out making it a close battle for
the 2011 points' championship going into next week's finale. Pinkerton leads 436
to 421 over Rayburn, two of many loyal drivers vying for a championship.
Twenty-seven late models, including many AMRA drivers chasing points rallied in
the K-C pit area for another powerful night of racing. The Late Model main was
also a dog-fight--at least in the early going. A pair of cross-over moves
captured the fans attention as Delmas Conley, Wheelersburg, OH and Mike Wilson,
Circleville, OH engaged in a torrid assault. Wilson defied gravity with a Kinser-like
slide job of an alert Conley, who responded in victory lane, "Mike (Wilson)
scared me there a little bit. I had to buckle back down and catch my breath. He
drove a great race though and we had nice little battle going out there."
Fast-Freddie Carpenter, in a rare K-C appearance had a good run holding down
third early in the race. Chris Garnes, the AMRA leader, Ralph Withem, Rod
Conley, Rod Evans, and Andy Bond soon ran down Carpenter in what was an exciting
six-car battle. Garnes took over third with Withem in tow, while Conley worked
hard to get a top five. Conley started coming on late in the race, taking fourth
from Withem with five laps to go, then passing Garnes with two laps left.
Withem also zoomed by Garnes for hard-charger honors in a 9th to 4th place run.
K-C Burdette had a good run into the top ten as well. The elder Conley in quest
of win 543 pulled comfortably ahead of Wilson and into victory lane for the
third time this season.
Said Conley, "I just thank everyone for coming out and making this win possible
and supporting racing here at K-C. This track is always my favorite, it has been
racy, and was really racy tonight. You could really throttle up and hang it out
tonight."
Conley and Wilson are the two top K-C point men. Conley leads 459 to 431 with
Rod Conley within striking distance at 386.
Coming off a $2,500 win last week, Jamey Adams was hard to stop, especially from
the pole. Brandon Thompson, however, was unscathed and pressured Adams most of
the race. After getting bumped back early, Tommy Mossbarger had a great run back
into the top five and set his sights on hard-charging Brandon Mather. Evan Seitz
was fast early, but saw his night end after a turn four skirmish. Close racing
continued throughout the pack with no one really gaining an advantage over the
other.
Thompson tried everything, zooming high, slicing low and finally boring it hard
into turn three, nearly pulling off a last lap pass.
Said Jamey Adams, "I saw Brandon (Thompson) coming. He kept getting closer and
closer. That made it a nice little race for the fans. Thanks again to everyone
who has made this season a success. It has been a great year! Maybe next year we
will do this again or go with something with a little wider tire."
Jack Martin was the hard charger in a 13th to 8th place run. Rounding out the
top ten were Adams, Brandon Thompson, Brandon Mather, Tommy Mossbarger, David
Akers, Jim Hildebrand, Mike Brust, Jack Martin, Jason Holstein, and Tim Cutler.
Next week, October 1, K-C Raceway will feature another action packed line up of
AMRA Late Models, AMRA Advanced Services Modifieds, and Hobby Stocks. The
Modified Portion of the program will be an American Motor Racing Association (AMRA)
Road Warrior Challenge race paying $1,200 to win. Racing will start a half hour
early because of colder weather and the upcoming time change.
The Dirt Track World Championships will be October 13-14-15 paying $50,000 to
win for Late Models and $3,000 to win for Modifieds.

Sunday, Oct 2- INEX Legends Season Championship, PLUS Sport Modifieds, Late
Models and Factory Stocks
The 12th Annual King of the Mountain with $5,000 to win for the Modifieds
St. Johns, PA- Mountain Speedway’s Super Bowl of motorsports is approaching and
the 12th annual event is expected to be like none other, as track Promoter, Joe
Callavini will once again pay $5000 to the winner of the season ending 150-lap
Modified extravaganza to celebrate the running of one of the greatest asphalt
shows in Pennsylvania. For years, the two-day event has showcased talent, and
with extended lap races and larger purses for the divisions on the card,
Callavini looks for the season closer to be huge for both racers and fans alike.
Similar to the last couple of years, each division will qualify and run their
respective feature events on the same day, and all divisions throughout the
weekend will be awarded double points, to decide the divisional championships.
The weekend will kick off at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval near Hazleton, PA on
Friday, October 7 with open practice for all divisions from 6-9 PM. There is a
$20 for the Friday’s pit pass.
The Sport Modifieds, Late Models, Factory Stocks and TQ midgets will run
extended lap main events on Saturday, October 8. Time trials for the Sport
Modifieds will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by heat race qualifiers for the
support divisions. The afternoon will be capped off with a $2,000 to win,
100-lap Sport Modified main event.
Three big features will show case the racing on Sunday, October 9. Following
practice for all divisions, the mighty Modifieds will take center stage for
qualifying. Time trials will be held for the Modifieds and heat races will
decide the starting line-ups for the support divisions. Consi events will fill
the fields. After completion of the support division main events, including the
Street Stocks and FWDs, the evening will be capped off with a $5000 to win,
150-lap main event for the Modifieds.
All entrants will draw for heat race or time trial starting positions on race
day. Twenty cars will start feature events, and if needed, consi races will be
run.
The top ten in driver points for all Mountain Speedway divisions after the
October 2nd racing program will be added to the feature as a provisional,
provided they do not qualify through heat races, time trials or consi events.
The drivers must attempt to qualify in both, heat (time trials for Modifieds)
and consi in order to be eligible for a provisional spot.
Along with the regular stars of the track, several big names are expected to
make the trip to St. Johns, PA for the 150-lap contest. Zane Zeiner, a two-time
King of the Mountain winner should be on hand, as well as Brian DeFebo, a three
time Modified champion at the track.
The list of famous names goes on, which definitely shows the way drivers look
forward to the yearly event, as it always gains steam and popularity year after
year.
Pit admission for Saturday and Sunday is $50 per day and grandstand admission is
$22 per day. Grandstand admission for Friday’s practice session is free.
The full purse for all regular divisions will be available on the speedway
website after this weekend.
In case of inadequate weather, the speedway has set the following weekend (Oct.
15/16) to use as a make-up date.

Chub Frank Toughs Out A Fourth-Place Finish At I-55 Raceway Racing With Injured
Thumb
BEAR LAKE, PA – Sept. 21, 2011 – An injured thumb couldn’t stop Chub Frank from
turning in a solid performance in last Saturday night’s World of Outlaws Late
Model Series Pepsi Nationals at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.
Racing with his right thumb in a protective brace after breaking it the previous
week in a World 100 heat-race incident, Frank charged forward from the 11th
starting spot to finish an impressive fourth in the 55-lap A-Main at the
high-banked, one-third-mile oval outside St. Louis.
Frank, 49, of Bear Lake, Pa., registered his fifth top-five finish of the 2011
WoO LMS. Considering the circumstances, this one had to rank as his most
hard-earned.
The popular driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ entered the WoO LMS weekend in the
Midwest uncertain about his prospects thanks to his injury. His broke the thumb
on Sept. 10 on the opening of his heat race for the World 100 at Eldora Speedway
in Rossburg, Ohio; his hand got caught in his car’s steering wheel when he got
swept up in turn-two tangle. While he immediately knew the thumb would need
medical attention, he went on to run a B-Main that evening (he failed to make
the World 100 cut) and sought treatment upon returning home.
Frank aggravated his injury last Friday night at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon
Beach, Ill., where his car bounced in the air and slapped the outside wall after
its right-rear wheel broke and bounced off as he entered turn one on his first
time-trial lap. He parked his damaged machine and was prepared to run his second
car – the distinctive orange-colored Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment
Rocket No. 1* that he unveiled at the World 100 – but he never got the chance
because rain moved in and forced the cancelation of the WoO LMS event.
Frank was back in his head-turning orange mount on Saturday night at I-55. And
rather than use the smaller thumb brace that doctors had provided him for racing
(it was on his hand at Tri-City), he decided to wear the larger apparatus that
he had been told to use whenever he’s out of the car. The switch ended up
helping him immensely.
“I’m glad I tried that brace I did,” said Frank, who slipped his racing glove
over the brace when he climbed into the cockpit at I-55. “It was a lot better. I
had a lot more confidence with that one on.
“I definitely could still feel (the injury),” he added. “But it wasn’t too bad.
When you’re out there, you’re racin’.”
Frank hustled his machine forward with some strong outside moves on the tight
track. He briefly overtook Jason Feger for third late in the distance but fell
back to fourth the following circuit.
“I got by Feger but I didn’t clear him enough to slide up,” said Frank. “I
figured he was racing me pretty clean so I had to give him a lane and he got
back by.
“I’m happy with the night,” he continued. “We still could never get the car to
turn where we needed it to turn, but it was better. Josh (Richards, who won the
evening’s A-Main) helped me out a little bit and got us going in the right
direction.”
Frank’s car was powered by a new Roush-Yates Chevrolet engine, which he used for
the first time in a major event the previous week at Eldora.
“The motor ran great,” said Frank. “This Roush-Yates is a good piece. I’m
excited to see what we can do with it.”
Frank, who sits fifth in the WoO LMS points standings with five events remaining
on the 2011 schedule, plans to race close to home this weekend in the ‘Fall
Classic’ at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa. He’ll compete in three
nights of ULMS action – the ULMS ‘King of the Hill’ Challenge on Thurs., Sept.
22; the $4,000-to-win Dave Lundgren Memorial on Fri., Sept. 23; and the sixth
annual ULMS Priority Care RaceFAN 50 ($13,000 to win) on Sat., Sept. 24.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Accord Speedway Welcomes In Five Great Divisions Saturday For Final
Day Of King Of The Catskills Weekend
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
With four exciting divisions highlighting the opening night of the King of the
Catskills weekend at the Accord Speedway on September 23rd, the Palmer Family
will play host to five divisions of racing excitement on Saturday, September
24th to top off what just may be the greatest weekend in the history of the
speedway. The five divisions of racing going to battle are as diverse as one can
imagine and the stars and cars of the racing action will be highlighted each
step of the way as the well noted Accord announcing team of Steve Pados and Joel
Murns have done their homework to bring the driving stars stats and particulars
to each night of racing action. Again some big bucks will be on the line for the
Healey Brothers Group Spec Sportsman racers as they will see action in a fifty
lap shootout that will see the winner enjoy the spoils in the Lucas Oil Products
Victory Lane before heading over to checkout at the payoff window to the tune of
$2,000.00. "Hollywood" Whitey Slavin, a three time feature event winner in 2011
and the third place man in points at Accord, will headline the list of driving
stars heading to Ulster County to do battle. Slavin stated on the Pados Brothers
CARQUEST Gasloine Alley TV/Internet Show on Monday evening he will be back to
defend the King of the Catskills crown from a year ago when he slipped by the
wounded race car of leader Kyle Rohner and go on the claim the win. Forty cars
towed in to do battle a year ago and that many are expected again when the
racing begins on Saturday. One of the hot drivers on the circuit right now is
the runner-up man in points at Accord "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson as he has
captured wins at Lebanon Valley Speedway and at Accord in the final events
heading into this weekend of racing. It is not known at this time if track
champion Kyle Rohner will be making the trip up from Pennsylvania for Saturday's
event. A great supporting cast will be on hand as track regulars "Double J" Joe
Judge, "The Ironman" Mike DuBois, Patrick Murphy, Wayne Devantoy, John Sundlof,
Phil Johnson, Kyle Van Duser, Tyler Dippel, Lem Atkins, Phil Recchio, and a host
of Accord regulars will be in action. Orange County racers Tyler McKee, Andrew
Reaves and Frank Venezia tested their racers last week at the speedway with good
results and top shoe Kenny Hinsch returned to action in the past couple of
weeks. "Rollin" Mike Tholin tested the Accord waters a week ago and recently
scored a fourth place finish at the big Crate event at Glen Ridge. Chris McCoy
also was in action for the first time one week ago.
The CRSA Racesavers Sprint Cars have been testing the waters at many speedways
over the course of the 2011 racing season and this band of winged warriors comes
into Accord with a very tight points battle in place as their season begins to
wind down. Chad King comes into the event with a 24 point lead over rookie John
Virgilio and converted Modified star Jamie Christian. Brett Jaycox, Josh
Pieniazek, John Cunningham, Brittany Tresch, Warren Alexson, Billy Jaycox, Art
Kiser, JR Hurlburt, Tyler Chartrand, Tommy Martocci, Jeff Van Steenburg, Tyler
Rice, Phil Peworchik, John Matrafailo, Curtis June, Billy Van Inwegen, Frank
Lieto, and Jeremy Quick are all expected in for this exciting regional Racesaver
event. Craig Rochelle was the victor the last time the Series visited the
speedway and will be back on hand for the upcoming event. From the TSRS Series
come talented wheel twisters out of New Jersey Stephanie Stevens and Jeff Taylor
and noted car owner Rob Warko from Pennsylvania informed the speedway he will
have two cars in action with Matt Mountz and Joe Smith at the controls of the
racers. As the event is open to all 305 racers within the Tri State area, the
event will be a great addition to the King of the Catskills weekend.
Second place man in points, John Roese will lead the contingent of DC
Landscaping Pro Stocks to the post on Saturday. Roese is coming off a year in
which he scored three wins during the season and came up just four points short
in landing the track title. Roese is the only Pro Stocker in the field that
utilizes a Ford motor for the go-power. Torin Betterton, fresh off a win a week
ago at Accord, will be back in the field along with third place man in points
Tom Vasta. Al Christiana, Paul Aragon, Jimmy Sykes, John Rood, Dave Demorest,
Ralph Ronk, Ron Rion, Clarence Smith and a host of outsiders will join in
seeking to gain their fair share of the Accord pie.
The Arkel Motors Pure Stock Division was highly entertaining all season long and
heading the list of hopefuls will be "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino. Tarantino
comes into the weekend fresh off a four season win and a track championship
performance at Accord. "The Rebel" Tim Brown returned to action last week and
the two time winner in 2011 always comes to the post with a formidable hot rod.
Ryan Johnson, Joe Narok, Gary Predmore, Jimmy Cuneo, Mike Deyo, Steve Cooper,
John Woinoski, Eugene Helms, Chris Kanuk, Harry Bachman and a host of others
will put on a great show for the fans come Saturday.
The National Junior Slingshot Tour comes into the Accord Speedway under a full
head of steam after a stunning exhibition last weekend in the curtain closer for
the Hamlin Speedway. Twenty two "stars of tomorrow" competed at the Hamlin event
and all indications is most of the great young talent will be in action at
Accord as well. Heading the lst of talent will be Accord regular "The Tornado"
Tyler Johnston as the thirteen year old speedster comes into the weekend with a
fifty point lead over "The Midget" Chris Kurtz. in the National rankings.
Johnston hopes to end the season with the Junior Slingshot title in hand as he
will step into the Spec Sportsman ranks in 2012 aboard one of the Sherlock Tri
State Roofing speed buggys that Johnston debuted at Accord last week with a
fourteenth place performance. Kurtz has been phemomenal in 2011 with his second
place ranking on the tour and second place finishes at both the Accord and
Hamlin Speedways during the season. "The Jonestown Jet" Kyle Gruber put in one
show at Accord during the season and the youngster has improved each time he
buckles into the famly owned racer and now rests in third place on the tour. "Thrillin"
Dylan Martin has been named the 2011 champion at Hamlin and has enjoyed great
success in his limited appearances at the Accord facility. Wyalusing regulars
"The Abbey-nator" Abbey Price and Alex Shaffer will land on the Accord grounds
this weekend. For Price it will be her first competition at Accord but Shaffer
has been a limited visitor with great credentials each time he arrives at the
speedway. Accord Speedway Junior Slingshot champion "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel
will head the great list of talented drivers planting their tire prints into the
Accord clay this weekend. "The Predator" Kevin Predmore, Brandon "Juan Pablo"
McGill, "The Flash" Bobby Flood, Collin DuBois, "The Bullville Bandit" Tommy
Zwart, Michelle Campbell, Jared Labagh, Matthew Shultzand a host of others will
join the parade onto the Accord Speedway grounds and the great Accord loyal fans
will see first hand that the future of auto racing is in great hands with the
"stars of tomorrow" working their magic on the high banks of the quarter mile
Accord speedplant.
The Accord Speedway racing season was another great one even though Mother
Nature dropped in on occasion to rain on the Accord parade. All told eight
cancellations on Friday and three on Wednesday were necessitated by rain or some
atrocity of the weather that included the Hurricane Irene deluge that knocked
out power in Ulster County for nine days.
Even so, the racing action was extraordinary as the competition in all divisions
goes the extra mile to put on a great show for the loyal Accord fan base.
Promoter Gary Palmer continues to work his magic on the racy quarter mile
speedplant and the side by side, three and four wide racing action is a tribute
to the time and effort Palmer puts into the facility that attracts a fan base
from six states on a weekly basis. The four divisions of racing on Friday
evening and the five divisions on Saturday are a bargain for the racing fans as
each competing division has it's own stars and fanfare and will create a rocking
great time in the foothills of Ulster County.
Racing every Friday night from April through September. September 23rd and 24th
finds the "King of the Catskills" weekend of great racing in the house and WLR
Construction serving as the headline sponsor for the event. Pit Gates open at
3:30; Spectator Gates open at 5:00; Hot Laps are at 6:30 and the racing begins
at 7 PM. The Saturday program will begin one hour earlier. Admission for this
special weekend is as follows: Friday Night: Adults $23.00 (12+) Children $5.00

day weekend of great racing on September 23rd and 24th. With nine diverse
divisions of racing on the schedule, every true racing fan will want to make
sure they are in attendance to take in every second of the great competition
that will unfold. The ROC Modified Tour heads up the Friday evening of action
September 23rd with a large $7,000.00 payday awaiting the winner of the 100-lap
headliner. Open Sportsman will see a 50-lap feature with $2,000.00 on the line
for the winner. The Lightning Sprints and the afford Four Cylinder division will
also take part in the Friday night portion of the weekend.

$20,010-to-win/$1,000-to-start event gets underway on Thursday with an open
practice session, while time trials and heat race action will be held on Friday
night. Saturday's program will be headlined by b-mains, a last chance race, and
the 100 lap finale. For more information, please visit

Last Friday night found Bub at the World of Outlaws Super Late Model event at
Tri City Speedway (Pontoon Beach, Illinois) for a $10,000-to-win event. With 37
cars entered, time trials were almost completed when rains set in forcing the
event to be canceled.
Saturday night saw McCool Motorsports managing to dodge Mother Nature to enter a
$10,000-to-win, World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model event at I-55 Raceway
(Pevely, Missouri). Forty-two Super Late Models entered the event, and in time
trials Bub registered the 9th fastest time to lock into the third starting spot
for the first heat race. In the heat he would slip to a fourth place finish,
which left him starting thirteenth on the feature grid for the 55 lap feature.
He would race around mid-pack for the duration of the event before crossing the
finish line in the 12th position. Full results are available at

Kyle Beard Overcomes Adversity at NAS; Magnolia State 100 Next
Trumann, AR (09/21/11) – Despite mechanical woes after time trials Kyle Beard
unloaded a backup car and raced his way from the back of the pack to a top ten
finish in the 7th Annual Bama Brawl at North Alabama Speedway in his #86 Victory
Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Samuels Performance Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Kyle made the trip to North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama) on Saturday
night for the 7th Annual Bama Brawl, which posted a $4,000-to-win/$400-to-start
purse for the 40 lap feature event. With 29 cars entered, the night would seem
to start well for Beard as he qualified fourth fastest in his group to lock into
the eighth starting spot for the feature. However, prior to the feature the team
would discover a possible valve spring issue. As a result, they were forced to
unload their backup car, which resulted in them having to forfeit their starting
spot to start last in the feature.
During the course of the feature, Kyle would amazingly enjoy a strong run in a
car that had not even been hot lapped. He would race his way from the 22nd
starting spot to a 10th place finish at the checkered flag. Full results are
available at
www.NorthAlabamaSpeedway.com.
This weekend, September 22nd-24th, the team will travel to "The Baddest Bullring
in the South" as they enter the 22nd Annual Magnolia State 100 at Columbus
Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). In 2010 Kyle opened a lot of eyes as he
overcame a DNF in his heat due to a flat tire to start on the back of a b-main
before racing his way forward to claim the final transfer spot to the feature in
the last chance qualifier. He went on to race his way from the 26th starting
position to record an 8th place finish. This year he will look to improve on the
finish. The event gets underway with an Open Practice Session on Thursday night
before seeing time trials and heat race action contested on Friday night, while
b-mains, the last chance qualifier, and the 100 lap finale will be held on
Saturday night. For more information on the event, please visit

Despite Problems, Rabenold Has Solid Run at
Salem
By: Gene Ostrowski
Tyler Jett Motorsports Marketing
geno@tylerjett.com
Slatington, Pa (9/19/2011)- In his third start of the season in the ARCA Racing
Series presented by Menards, Slatington’s Kory Rabenold qualified 19th for the
Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care at Salem
Speedway in Salem, Indiana. However, a radiator change forced him to the last
starting spot. Despite having a great piece underneath him, Rabenold suffered
problems and still salvaged a 16th place finish.
From the last starting spot, Rabenold began to advance in a hurry at the start
of the event. He told his team over the radio that their car was “wicked fast”
and that he felt that a great finish was in their future. However, things
changed in a hurry when one of the sway bar arms broke on his mount.
“We were running 15th at the time and passing cars. We went laps down because I
pitted for a vibration and then it broke, so we were forced to fix it. We went
more laps down, but we came back out and didn’t give up! That just goes to show
that the team never gave up”, said Rabenold.
Due to the problems that the team encountered, Rabenold is thrilled with the
finish and he summed the great run that he had going with his family funded team
before the vibration.
“We were very fast and passing good, top notch equipment and kept moving up.
That’s all we wanted was to be competitive, and we were. Now it’s time to focus
on next season”, he said.
Teamwork and good people make up a great team and Rabenold is pleased to have
the following supports on board this season: Buzzy's Auto Body, Dynamite
Woodworking, Mama's Pizza of Slatington PA, Springhouse Eye Care, Ecco
Communications, Brooksy's Beers & Barrels Drive Thru, Interstate Batteries of
Allentown and Thomson’s Meat Market.
Kory would like to thank his crew, some new to this event, for dedicating a
weekend to help us compete at Salem.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Lots Of Bang For The Buck Greets King Of The Catskills Racing Fans
At Accord Speedway
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The Night of Champions and the King of the Catskills events at the Accord
Speedway are normally separated by an off week and allows the hard working staff
at the speedway to prepare in advance for the big two day show. This year,
however, due to the seasonal Hurricanes from weeks past, the speedway utilized
the rain date for the final night of points and has Promoters Gary and Donna
Palmer and staff working all hours of the day and night to greet the nine
divisions of racing and the expected large crowds of eager race fans anxious to
see their favorite racing heroes go to battle on the pristine, high banked
quarter mile speedplant on September 23rd and 24th. Gary Palmer will attend to
his efforts at giving the combatants a moist and tacky track surface they can
race from wall to wall throughout the weekend. During the 2011 racing season at
Accord new marks were established for the Modified and Lightning Sprint
divisions with Brett Hearn breaking down the old barrier a few times before
nailing a 12.524 second lap earlier in the season and a couple of the Lightning
Sprint racers posting times in the 12.2 second lap mark. Donna Palmer will work
her magic with great attention to all of the event details from ticket sales to
the food concessions as the well noted kitchen at Accord has been serving up
great cuisine all season long. The weekend of events is sponsored by Bill Rumsey
and his WLR Construction Team.
The Friday night portion of the weekend will bring in four divisions of hot rod
racers and all with special events to try their hands at winning. The evening
will bring in the highly successful ROC Modified Dirt Tour with their stars and
cars to battle it out with the hometown aces of the Accord Speedway. Two ROC
events remain with the King of the Catskills 100 lap event plus the October 29th
Southern Tier 100 to be held at the Five Mile Point Speedway, all drivers hoping
to gain the ROC title or seek to move up in the point standings will make sure
they are part of the Accord event. The ROC contingent is led by "The Franklin
Flyer" Billy Decker as the Gypsum Express driving ace leads the points with 523
points. On his heels will be the defending King of the Catskills winner from a
season ago "The Doctor" Danny Johnson as the Rochester racing surgeon comes into
the event tied with the defending champion of the series, "The Canadian
Sensation" Stewart Friesen with each having earned 488 points to date. Three
time winner in the series in 2011, Jeff Strunk has alerted track officials he
will be at the event and sits in fourth place with 455 tallies to his credit.
"Super" Matt Sheppard completes the top five with 413 points earned to date. The
remainder of the top ten includes "The Genoa Giant" Pat Ward, Accord Speedway
track champion Brett Hearn, Victoria and New Yorker winner at Utica Rome Bobby
Varin, "The Sandman" Duane Howard and "The Electric Company" Ryan Watt. Accord
will counter with some great in-house driving talent as "The Commander" Brett
Hearn heads-up the Accord roster list of hopefuls. "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie
and 2009 winner of the King of the Catskills event will be ready to go after
winning his first event of the season last Friday evening. "Showtime" Danny
Tyler, "DC" Danny Creeden, "The Jeffer" Jeff Heotzler, "Iron" Mike Ricci, and
two time feature winner "Primetime' Scott Ferrier will do their best to hold off
the onslaught of top invading drivers looking for the $7,000.00 pot of gold at
the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane.
The Camper's Barn Sportsman will be in action and pointing towards a $2,000.00
prize in a 50-lap battle of the top Sportsman drivers in the area. "Mr
Excitement" Kevin Ward graced victory lane on six occasions in 2011 and captured
the track championship and he will be dealing with a host of top campaigners
including Shane Jablonka, David Coene, Jeff Hulseapple, Vinny DeCicco, Jesse
Marks, and recent Penn Can winner Anthony Perrego as they go head to head in
their biggest event of the season. Five Mile Point track champion Nick Petrilak
has confirmed to Accord Media correspondent Steve Pados he will be making the
trip to Accord to do battle.
The thrill a second Lightning Sprints will be in action on Friday evening and
new track champion Peter Dance will have his hands full with a great roster of
driving talent that have found the short way around the Accord oval. With the
lap times falling with each appearance, it is quite possible to see a new track
record when the evening comes to a close. Rich Woods, Doug Norrie, Justin
Phillips, Jon Moore, Kyle Smith, Jerry Sehn, Joe Szczapa, the Casazza Brothers,
Ralph Utter and a host of others will add to the luster of the evening as the
winged warriors give the fans their money's worth when they play at the "Gem in
the Catskills".
The wild and zany, go for broke Four Cylinder division will also take part in
the Friday night show. The low budget, great fun division was an add-on to the
Midweek Madness Wednesday Summer Series at Accord and quickly became a favorite
of the crowd with the side by side and nose to tail driving done by the drivers.
Champions Walt Henry and John Davis headline the performers with additional
strength coming from the likes of Dan Curry, Robert Beach, Sarah Bohlin, Tasha
Curry, Dan Sanchez and many more.
The Accord Speedway racing season was another great one even though Mother
Nature dropped in on occasion to rain on the Accord parade. All told eight
cancellations on Friday and thre on Wednesdays were necessitated by rain or some
atrocity of the weather that included the Hurricane Irene deluge that knocked
out power in Ulster County for nine days.
The four divisions of racing on Friday
evening are a bargain for the racing fans as each competing division has it's
own stars and fanfare and will create a rocking great time in the foothills of
Ulster County.
(11+ under) Indoor Seating $30.00; Reserved $25.00; Family four pack special: 2
Adults + 2 Children and $20.00 in Food Vouchers for $66.00 ( a savings of
$10.00). Saturday pricing: Adults $20.00; Children $4.00; Indoor Seating $25.00;
Reserved $22.00; Family four pack special $58.00. Raindates are: September 30th
and October 1st
Racing fans should make their plans for the exciting "King of the Catskills" two
day weekend of great racing on September 23rd and 24th.
September 24th finds the Spec Sportsman pounding the clay for 50-laps with
$2,000.00 on the line for the winner, the exciting winged CRSA Sprint Cars, the
National Junior Slingshot Tour, Pro Stock and Pure Stocks in action.

USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series
DANNY SHERIDAN WINS 26TH ANNUAL BUD STANFIELD MEMORIAL
By Lance Jennings
SANTA MARIA, CA – SEPTEMBER 19, 2011... Last Saturday night, Santa Maria's
"Showtime" Danny Sheridan claimed the $2000-to-win Bud Stanfield Memorial in
front of his hometown fans. Starting seventh in the action packed feature,
Sheridan used a bold outside move on lap twenty-seven to take the lead from Bud
Kaeding. From there, the former track champion led the rest of the way to score
his first win of the year and third overall with the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint
Car Series.
Hanford's Justyne Hamblin shared the front row with Bud Kaeding in the 30-lap
feature. At the drop of starter Tom Peterson's green flag, it was a drag race
for the lead and Hamblin seized the opportunity. Looking for her first victory
of the season, the 2009 champion was flying around the 1/3-mile clay oval and
reached lapped traffic on lap five. Two laps later, Justyne had a straightaway
lead on the competition and continued to slice through slower cars.
Unfortunately, a close call with traffic on lap eleven resulted in a Hamblin
spin and the first yellow flag of the main event.
Wes Gutierrez, who won the previous week at Hanford, inherited the lead followed
by Kaeding, Danny Sheridan, and point leader Richard VanderWeerd. Once action
resumed, another yellow flag was soon displayed over the speedway for a tangle
involving Brody Roa, Austin Liggett, and Hamblin. Liggett's car left on the hook
and the second stop for Hamblin ended her night. Roa was able to restart and
finished fourteenth.
Gutierrez was able to hold Kaeding back until a red flag on lap eighteen.
Campbell's Nico Russo had a hard flip in his machine and the young driver was
attended to by safety and medical crews. As this writing goes to press, Russo
has a reported concussion.
After the extended red flag, Gutierrez held command but Kaeding continued to
apply heavy pressure. Bud's persistence paid off and he took the lead from Wes
on lap twenty-four. Sheridan quickly charged into second and two laps later, a
yellow flag bunched the field. Kaeding was after his fifth victory of the
season, but "Showtime" had other plans. Seeing an opportunity, Sheridan shot to
the outside groove and grabbed the lead. Bud tried to battle back, but it was
Danny's night as he won his second career Stanfield Memorial. Kaeding finished
second, followed by Gutierrez, VanderWeerd, and Greg Alexander.
Driving the Kittle Motorsports' #18K Pace Lightning / PIPE Sherman, Danny
Sheridan became the eighth different winner in thirteen events. The USAC/CRA
standout qualified second fast on the night and scored second in his heat race.
In limited starts with the USAC West Coast 360s, Sheridan is fifteenth in the
point chase, with two heat race victories, four top-10 finishes, and two Keizer
Wheels Hard Charger Awards.
Campbell's Bud Kaeding had to settle for second at the Bud Stanfield Memorial.
Piloting Junior Bowman's #29 Buster and Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance
Maxim, Kaeding was eighth quick in time trials and third in his heat race. The
multi-time USAC Silver Crown Champion is tenth in the standings and leads the
series with four main event wins. In addition, Bud has one Sander Engineering
Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, and six top-10 finishes on the year.
Wes Gutierrez of San Martin looked strong in the feature and led twelve laps
before falling to Kaeding. The driver of the WG Motorsports' #007 ButlerBuilt /
Competition Suspension Inc. DRC claimed third in the Stanfield Memorial and is
now tied for third in the points with Jace VanderWeerd. The hard charger
qualified sixth fast on the night and took third in his heat race. Leading the
series with five heat race victories, Gutierrez also has one feature win and ten
top-10 finishes to his credit.
Point leader Richard VanderWeerd of Visalia had another solid night with a
fourth place run at Santa Maria. Piloting the family owned #10 VanderWeerd
Construction / Battery Worx Maxim, Richard was fifth fast on the night and
fourth in his heat race. Currently holding a sixty-five point lead heading into
Hanford, VanderWeerd also leads the series with twelve top-10 finishes. In
addition, Richard has one feature win, three Sander Engineering Fast Time
Awards, three heat race victories, and one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award.
Gardena's Greg Alexander finished fifth in the 30-lap feature. Driving Chuck
Tyler's #72 Barnes Systems / Amsoil Maxim, Alexander was seventh quick in time
trials and scored fourth in his heat race. Now seventh in the point chase, Greg
has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, and eight
top-10 finishes on the season.
Jace VanderWeerd of Visalia earned his first Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award
with a seventh place run after starting fourteenth. Piloting the family owned
#88 VanderWeerd Construction / Battery Worx Maxim, Jace qualified fourteenth and
scored fourth in his heat race. Tied for third in the points with Wes Gutierrez,
VanderWeerd has one feature win, one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, one
heat race victory, and eleven top-10 finishes in 2011.
Hollister's Ryan Bernal earned his first Sander Engineering Fast Time Award
behind the wheel of Danny Olmstead's #11D S&S Automotive / Dorso's Automotive
Maxim. The former Wingless Spec Sprint Champion claimed third in his heat race
and finished tenth in the Stanfield Memorial. Currently second in the
championship points, Bernal leads the series with 116 feature laps led. In
addition, Ryan has three feature wins, two heat race victories, and ten top-10
finishes on the year.
Justyne Hamblin raced to victory in the Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Piloting
the JH Motorsports' #8 Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino / Dias Law Firm Speed Tech,
Justyne was ninth fast in time trials and led the first eleven laps of the
feature. Scoring twentieth at Santa Maria, the former series champion is eighth
in the points with three heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger
Award, and seven top-10 finishes on the season.
Austin Liggett of Tracy won his first heat race of the year by taking the
Saldana Racing Products / Keizer Wheels sponsored event. Driving the family
owned #83 Excel Environmental Services / Home Connections Inc. Maxim, Liggett
qualified eighteenth and scored twenty-first in the feature. Tied for
twenty-ninth in the point chase, Austin has one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award
on his resume.
Ramona's Bobby Bender took Bill Jones' #16 Santa Maria Masonry / Artistic
Impressions Stinger to the DJ Safety Heat Race #3 victory. The California
Lightning Sprint graduate was nineteenth fast on the night and finished
thirteenth in the 30-lap feature. In limited starts, Bender is currently
thirty-first in the point standings.
In his first start of the year, Derek Buckley of Ojai won the Competition
Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Heat Race #4. Driving Melinda Buckley's #76
Fatheadz Eyewear / Competition Suspension Inc. Ellis, Derek was twelfth quick in
time trials and scored ninth in the main event. The VRA standout is now
forty-first in USAC West Coast 360 points.
Another Ventura standout making their first start of the season was Camarillo's
Josh Ford. Piloting Keith Ford's #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision
Machine Spike, Josh won the 10-lap Keizer Wheels Semi-Main event. Qualifying
fourth in time trials and scoring fifth in his heat race, Ford took eighth in
the Stanfield Memorial. The former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year
is now fortieth in the point standings.
The USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series would like to thank Cyndi Jewett and
family for their support of the Bud Stanfield Memorial. Their sponsorship of the
event honored John Jewett's memory and is greatly appreciated by the
competitors. Next season, the Santa Maria facility plans to host the John Jewett
Memorial Race and it will be one of the most anticipated dates on the schedule.
In addition, the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series thanks Southwest

Jason Hughes Wins Again in USMTS Hunt
Westville, Oklahoma (09/20/11) – Jason Hughes claimed his fourth Casey's General
USMTS Hunt win of the season behind the wheel of his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Gressel
Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified on Thursday night at
Humboldt Speedway.
Fresh from enjoying a one week break, Jason returned to the Casey's General
USMTS tour on Thursday night at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) with a
$2,000-to-win event, which served as a make-up from a rainout earlier in the
tour. A talent-laden field of 48 competitors entered the program, and a big
number at the pill draw left Hughes starting ninth in his heat race. He would
pass four cars on his way to a fifth place finish, which left him just shy of
accumulating enough points to lock into the feature. As a result, he started
third in a b-main, which he won to lock into the 13th starting spot for the 40
lap finale.
In the feature his #12 Hughes Race Car would be a rocket ship as he quickly
advanced through the field, and on lap 19 he would take over the top spot. The
remainder of the feature would see him leave the competitors in the dust as he
claimed the win by over three second. He was followed across the finish line by
Kelly Shryock, Ryan Gustin, Jeremy Payne, and Dereck Ramirez. The win was his
fourth of the Hunt and his fourteenth of the 2011 campaign! Full results are
available at www.USMTS.com.
Much to the dismay of Jason in his hopes to make up major ground in the Casey's
General USMTS Championship Hunt, the events scheduled for Friday through Sunday
night all fell victim to rain. Mother Nature claimed the wins at Outlaw Motor
Speedway (Muskogee, Oklahoma), Salina High Banks Speedway (Salina, Oklahoma),
and West Plains Motor Speedway (West Plains, Missouri).
Jason continues to be third in the Casey's General USMTS Hunt standings behind
leader, Ryan Gustin, and Kelly Shryock, and Hughes Race Cars continues to lead
the Tiger Rear Ends Manufacturers Points. The latest tour standings are
available at www.USMTS.com.
Just three events remain in the 2011 Casey's General USMTS Hunt as the tour
rolls into Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the 13th Annual
Featherlite Fall Jamboree this weekend, September 22nd-24th.. The annual
pilgrimage of the nation's best Open Wheel Modified pilots to the famed oval
will offer a possible $15,000-to-win for the competitors. Action gets underway
on Thursday night with a $3,000-to-win program, while a $4,000-to-win event will
be held on Friday, and will conclude with an $8,000-to-win race on Saturday
night. For more information, please visit
