Dave Brigati Takes Third Sport Modified Victory at Mountain Speedway
By: Gene Ostrowski
September 4, 2011
St. Johns, Pa- The Labor Day weekend of racing continued on Sunday at Mountain
Speedway and just like the previous evening, the crowd on hand witnessed some
fierce battles on the racetrack. When it was all said and done, Dave Brigati of
Calverton, NY brought home his third Sport Modified victory of the season.
Fifteen-year-old Austin Kochenash of Danielsville, PA took his first career Late
Model victory at the speedway and Matt Schlenker of Walnutport, PA remained
patient to score his fourth Factory Stock victory of the season. Matt Papa
charged through the field to take the checkers en route to his second straight
INEX Legends victory at the track.
Pat Verwys led the Sport Modified field to the drop of the green flag in the
40-lap main event. With one lap complete, Jason Hearne held the second spot,
followed by Nick Pecko, chip Wanamaker and Dave Brigati.
Pecko battled with Hearne for second in the early going and the two ran side by
side for a number of laps, allowing Verwys to open up a comfortable gap. The
pair got situated and the Brigati mounted a charge of his own and then climbed
into second when he got underneath Hearne on lap seven.
A single car spin involving Todd Geist brought out the yellow flag on lap eight
and Verwys had company for the restart. Brigati lined up in second, followed by
Hearne, Pecko and Wanamaker.
Green flag racing resumed and Brigati took the lead and then Hearne followed
through to take second. As the leaders toured the track nose to tail, the action
behind then began to heat up, as Wanamaker, Pecko, Paul Frantz Todd Baer and
Rusty Smith all battled for position.
Brigati continued to lead over Hearne at the halfway mark, with Frantz, Smith
and Wanamaker in tow.
Since taking the lead, it was evident that Brigati was the class of the field
and he drove away to take his third feature win of the season. Hearne finished a
close second, followed by Frantz and Wanamaker. Smith got by both Baer and
Wanamaker in the last two laps to take the spot.
Heat race victories went to Chip Wanamaker and Pat Verwys.
Rick Smith started from the pole and led the opening circuit of the 30-lap Late
Model feature. Travis Fisher held second, with Austin Kochenash, Adam Cox and
Craig Lutz in tow.
With Smith still in command on lap five, Kochenash got under Fisher and took the
second spot. Lutz followed by Fisher shortly after and then Kyle Harvell
overtook him for the fourth spot on lap eight.
Kochenash reeled in the leader and overtook him for the top spot on lap eight.
Smith settled into the second spot, followed by Lutz, Harvell and Fisher.
Lutz and Harvell worked on Smith and they both finally overtook him for second
and third respectively on lap 11. However, neither of them seemed to have
anything for Kochenash, who went on to score his first win at the speedway.
Lutz settled for second, followed by Harvell. In a very solid performance, Smith
ended up fourth, followed by Fisher in fifth in the caution-free event.
Austin Kochenash and Travis Fisher scored heat race victories.
Brandon Oltra led his fellow competitors to the drop of the green flag in the
20-lap Factory Stock feature. He led the opening circuit over Keith Frankenfield,
Paul Morgan, Sr. and Rich Paciotti before the yellow flag waved when
Frankenfield spun in turn two.
Green flag racing resumed and Morgan, Sr. grabbed the race lead from Oltra.
Meanwhile, Paul Morgan, Jr. climbed to the third spot, with Chris Parry and Matt
Schlenker following close behind.
With only a few laps remaining, Paciotti made his way back into the top five and
battled side by side with Parry for the fourth spot. Meanwhile, things got hot
toward the front as Morgan, Jr. and Oltra balled for second.
With two laps remaining, Oltra tried to hold off a charge from Morgan, Jr. While
racing hard, the two touched and Morgan, Jr. went around. That changed around
the top five and Parry, Paciotti, Schlenker and Frankenfield lined up for the
restart behind Morgan, Sr.
In a shootout to the finish, Parry and Morgan, Sr. battled side by side for the
win. The pair tangled entering turn one on what would have been the final lap,
but the yellow flag was thrown.
Schlenker assumed the lead and led the final lap to the finish to score his
fourth feature win of the season. Paciotti, Frankenfield, Parry and Kenny
Kleppinger completed the top five.
Heat race wins went to Paul Morgan, Jr. and Keith Frankenfield.
Carl Jones started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the
20-lap INEX Legends feature over Stephen Hershey, Raven Schrantz, Todd McCollum
and Brandon Michael.
McCollum overtook the leader on the second lap and along with Scott Hubler, Matt
Papa began to drive into the top five.
The yellow flag flew when Hubler and Hershey tangled in turns three and four.
Another yellow flag followed on the very next lap, which set up a restart with
McCollum as the leader and Papa scored second. With the green flag back out,
Papa drove off with the lead.
With all of the side by side racing action in his mirror, Papa opened up the gap
between himself and second place McCollum to take his second straight victory at
the speedway. Van Michael finished third, followed by B. Michael and Tony
Hanbury.
Todd McCollum and Matt Papa were heat race winners.

Hamlin, PA - Hamlin Speedway Gets Back On Track With Spectacular Labor Day Show
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The forces of Mother Nature have proved to be greatest adversary of the 2011
racing season for the Hamlin Speedway. Undaunted the Smith Family and the great
staff at the speedway, along with 122 star studded racers and a great crowd on
hand got the final portion of the Hamlin racing season revved up once again and
the spectacular seven division racing card on Saturday evening went off without
a hitch. Featuring Junior Slingshot and Super Slinger extra distance and payout
events, the show was run off close to perfection and was completed at 10:14 in
the evening. The speedway was ravaged by Hurricane Irene a week ago but Randy
Smith and staff whipped the 1/2 mile playground back in shape for the Saturday
show and the speedway remained tacky yet challenging all night long as the
talented roster of driving stars showed their style and guile with side by side
and three wide racing action that kept the crowd on their feet all night long
and once again justifying the fact the Hamlin Speedway is where the stars come
out to shine and the results are spectacular. Chris Kurtz in the Juniors, John
Bockhorn in the All Stars, Charlie Bodine in the Super Slingers, Jeff Hartman in
the Wingless 600's, Trevor Dunn in the 270's, Scott Avery in the Rookie 270's
and Simon Egan in the Rookie 600's were the brightest stars of the evening as
each recorded wins in their respective divisions.
Time trials kicked off the racing activity for the Juniors and the Super
Slingers to set the starting lineups for their feature events while heats events
and a B-Main established the line-ups for the remainder of the racing divisions
at the speedway. "The Weasel" Jacob Dunn was quick time in the Juniors as he
stopped the clocks at 15.219 seconds with Thomas "Sonny" Strupp a couple of
ticks off at 15.380 seconds per lap. Billy Weaver was on the money in the Super
Slinger time trials as he rode a 14.732 second lap with Dale Kober nailing his
best lap at 14.801 seconds.
The "Brass Section" John Bockhorn and "The Closer" Mike Fogler brought the 24
car Slingshot field down for the start of the headline 25-lap feature event.
Bockhorn, a one time feature event winner during the season, won the drag race
down the front stretch and led the field into turn one with Fogler in hot
pursuit. Bockhorn put his Creative Auto Interiors/Pickle Man hot rod at the top
of the cushion and held off the early challenges of Fogler, Troy Langendoerfer,
"The Electric Man" Colin White and John Pantis as he established command of the
point. The eleventh lap saw the first casualty of the event as Langendoerfer
slowed in turns one and two ending his great ride. The restart was a carbon copy
of the initial start as Bockhorn was comfortable riding the cushion and Fogler
moving his race car around the multi-grooves of the speedway trying the find the
proper way to stay on the attack.
The racing was spectacular front to back as many mini-battles found the quality
roster of drivers jockeying for position throughout the field. From 13th
starting spot came the "Hot Rod" as Kyle Rode was seeking his third win in last
four starts at the speedway. Rode used a variety of moves to inch his way
forward and found the top five by lap-fifteen when he powered by current
National Slingshot Champion "The Dirt Diva" Shannon Smith. The racing action
remained at a fever pitch and was slowed momentarily when "Double J" Jimmy
Johnston had a right rear sneaker lose oxygen on lap-18. When the race restarted
it was Bockhorn at the point and Fogler still applying the pressure. A series of
restarts from lap-20 to 23 saw the event get checkered with Bockhorn scoring his
second win of the season and Mike Fogler in the runner-up role in what has to be
his best finish of the season. Colin White was third in a great run with John
Pantis in fourth and Kyle Rode continuing his great work at the speedway by
rounding out the top five. Shannon Smith, Billy Clark, Cody Kline, Danny
Buccafusca and Robby Hocker completed the top ten.
Newcomer Steve Walters found the Hamlin Speedway to his liking as he led the
first eleven laps of the 270 Micro feature event. Walters slowed at that point
and went pit side as Trevor Dunn inherited the lead on the restart. Connecticut
hot shoe CJ Heing kept the pressure on and as the race went into the latter
stages third place man Larry Hoagland spun and collected fourth place running
Robbie Watson to slow the pace and created a two lap shootout for all of the
marbles. Dunn was up to the task as he held off Heinig for the win in his
Rainbow Roofing racer with Heinig in the runner-up role. Mike Casario drove from
tenth starting place to finish third with the returning Gary Berkenstock in
fourth and Rich O'Neill completing the top five.
"The Flagtown Flyer" Jeff Hartman seized the lead at the drop of the green flag
and dominated the wingless 600 feature attraction despite a late charge by Billy
Clark. Hartman was at the top of his game as he moved his Hyper race car from
top to bottom around the speedway as he clicked off consistent 12.261 second
laps on his way to victory. Clark put on a great drive to finish in the
runner-up role with Massachusetts wheelman Mick D'Agostino racing to third
place. Joseph Smith hung tough in fourth spot and "The Minuteman" Alex Curley
completed the top five. Joe Kata, Brett Michalski, Brian Gilmore, Tony Iudicello
and Rick Calvert completed the top ten.
"Thrillin" Dylan Martin and the "Little Tornado" Zack Weisenfluh brought down
the stars of tomorrow starting field for their 25-lap event. Martin won the drag
race at the start and carved out a lead as Weisenfluh and Tyler Johnston battled
it out for the runner-up role. That battle came to a halt when contact sent both
drivers to the back of the field. On the restart it was Martin at the point with
Jacob Dunn, Thomas Strupp, Tommy Zwart and Chris Kurtz now applying the
pressure. Another skirmish saw Strupp and Zwart restarting from the rear and now
it was Chris Kurtz and Jacob Dunn coming after Martin. As lap-20 appeared Kurtz
moved to the very bottom of the raceway to pull even with Martin and the pair
duked it out side by side for two laps before Kurtz prevailed as the new leader.
Once in front Kurtz pulled away and drove to victory and grabbing the $200.00
winner's prize for an excellent drive. Dylan Martin was the runner-up in another
great run and "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston raced from the rear of the field to
earn a hard fought third place finish. Jacob Dunn was fourth in another stout
run and Tommy Zwart rallied from the rear of the bus to complete the top five.
First timer BJ Antonio headed up the second five with Allison Kaminski, Thomas
Strupp, Kyle Gruber and another newcomer Dakota Bartlet rounding out the top
ten. Another newcomer Dylan Hoch was eleventh in the final rundown and he did it
the hard way as he nursed the car home with a badly belt rear axle.
"The Sheriff" Simon Egan took no prisoners as he seized control of the Rookie
600 event and led all laps as he hit consistent 12.444 second laps on his way to
a convincing victory in the 20-lap feature run. Eddie Strada was in for the
runner-up role and Larry Mekic was third. Steve Van Valkenburg raced to a fourth
place finish and "Rimac" Riley Moczulski completed the top five.
Scott Avery grabbed the lead at the drop of Russ Furry's green flag and drove on
to victory in the Rookie 270 Micro feature event. Dereck Frederick was a close
runner-up as he closed quickly in the final five laps of the event. Hayden
Miller was third, Mackenzie Harper was in for fourth and Connecticut's Grady
Johnston completed the top five.
The Super Slingers saw local star Charlie Bodine return to racing action for the
35-lap headliner for the over-35 driving stars and led all of the way to carve
out a victory at the Hamlin oval. Dale Kober closed quickly late in the event
but fell a tad short in his bid and finished in the runner-up role. Henry
Anderson drove his Mike Griffin's State Farm Insurance sponsored hot rod to a
third place finish and Aaron Henneforth enjoyed a late charge that brought him
to fourth place and Joe Bodenschatz raced from 12th starting place to round out
the top five. Jerry Hughes, Tom Arntz, Jimmy Johnston, Wes Hearn and Bob Clark
completed the top ten finishers.
POCO-NOTES:
The weather was fabulous for the evening of racing activities and the great
crowd on hand saw some great racing throughout the evening and the heat racing
action saw the great depth of the very talented Hamlin Speedway rosters. Heat
racing action saw wins by Hayden Miller in the Rookie 270's and Justin Brewster
in the Rookie 600's. All Star Slingshot heats were captured by Mike Fogler, Troy
Langendoerfer, John Bockhorn and Jeff Cosgrove with the B-Main going to AJ
Tonkin. Trevor Dunn and CJ Heinig captured heat race win in the regular 270's
and the Wingless 600 heats went to Kyle Lick, Jonathan Hull and Shannon Smith.
The win for Smith was her first heat race win in 600 competition.
Newcomers to the speedway included second generation driver Trevor Labagh in the
Slingshots, Austin Bishop, Zach Farleigh, Steve Walters, and Angela Caruso in
the 270's. Former regular Gary Berkenstock made a successful return to the
speedway aboard one of the Widdos owned racers and was fourth in the 270 main
event. Jordan Tittle was back in action after a lengthy absence and was an early
retiree in the 600 feature. Junior Slingers were in abundance with BJ Antonio,
Dakota Bartlet and Dylan Hoch making their first appearances at the speedway.
Heidi Hedin was back in action with a new race car. It was back in July when she
got upside down with her older race car and the new machine shows a ton of
potential in the near future. Local racer Craig Fedoryk made a return to the
speedway and it was great to have him back in action. Sal Albanese drove the S&S
rental car in the Super Slinger action and rode the top of the Jersey barriers
in turn four and brought the car back down to earth on all four wheels.

Early Pit Leads Barry Callavini to First Sport Modified Victory of the Year at
Mountain
By: Gene Ostrowski
September 3, 2011
St. Johns, Pa- With double points on the line and in a race that was mainly
dominated by Dave Brigati, Barry Callavini of Hazleton, PA pitted early and
bided his time Saturday night in the 75-lap Sport Modified feature at Mountain
Speedway. As his competition began to fall off, Callavini got up on the wheel
and took the race lead with 12 laps remaining to notch his first victory of the
season. In yet another dominating performance in Late Model action, Craig Lutz
of Miller Place, NY Grabbed the race lead on lap nine and never looked back to
score his fourth win of the season. Also with double points on the line and with
the points title ending its close, Chris Parry of Lehighton, PA held off Factory
Stock point leader, Matt Schlenker, to score his second win of the season.
Time trails and then a redraw set the field for the 75-lap Sport Modified main
event. Dave Brigati set fast time and then proceeded to pull the pole position
for the redraw.
The green flag waved and Brigati led the opening circuit over Todd Baer, Jason
Hearne, Barry Callavini and Scott Adams.
A quick yellow waved when Geary Rinehimer looped his car in turns one and two.
Hearne lined up in second following the restart but Baer retook the position
once more green flag laps were logged.
Nick Pecko climbed to the top five and then both he and Hearn pressured Baer for
second. With Brigati still in command on lap 34, Hearne and Pecko got by Baer
and moved into second and third respectively.
The final caution flag of the evening waved when Baer spun in turns one and two.
Callavini, who held second at the time, lined up alongside Brigati. Hearne, Todd
Geist and Adams followed.
With the green flag back in the air, Callavini rode the high side of the track
and took the race lead. Hearne shot to second two laps after Callavini’s lap 63
pass and Pecko followed to third shortly after.
Callavini had the field covered over the remaining circuits and he drove to his
first Sport Modified win of the season over Hearne, Pecko, Brigati and Geist.
Brian Sones started from the pole and held the early lead in the 30-lap Late
Model feature over Kyle Harvell and Travis Fisher. However, the yellow flag
waved when Fisher tried to get underneath Harvell for second in turns three and
four. The end result was a spin by Fisher and he was forced to restart from the
tail of the field.
Green flag racing resumed and Craig Lutz worked under Harvell for second. With
six laps complete, Sones continued to lead over Lutz, Harvell, Francis Gross III
and Fisher.
Lutz finally worked by Sones and into the lead on lap nine and Harvell followed
into the runner up spot.
The second and final yellow of the race waved on lap 16 when Sones spun off turn
two. With the green flag back out in the remaining caution-free laps, Lutz
distanced himself from the field to claim the checkers for the fourth time this
season. Following a little contact with a few laps remaining, Fisher overtook
Harvell for second. Gross and Sones completed the top five.
Heat race victories went to Brian Sones and Travis Fisher.
Brandon Oltra led the Factory Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the
30-lap feature and held the race lead over Keith Frankenfield, Dean Kline, Chris
Parry and Scott Adams with one lap complete.
The yellow flag waved early on, when Adams sheered off several right front wheel
studs and lost his fright front wheel. With the green flag back out,
Frankenfield took the lead. Oltra held second and Parry overtook Kline for third
on lap 3.
Parry took command of the race following a lap six restart, but Frankenfield
didn’t give up that easy, as he got alongside the leader to lead lap 9.
Parry regained the advantage over Frankenfield to lead lap 10. Meanwhile, Matt
Schlenker worked his way by Rich Paciotti and into fourth.
Schlenker advanced more positions, first by overtaking Oltra for third on lap 14
and then got by Frankenfield for second on lap 18.
The final caution waved on lap 25 when Paul Morgan, Jr. and Jeff Searfoss
tangled in turn two. That set up a five-lap shootout between the leaders.
Despite efforts by Schlenker immediately following the restart, Parry held on to
score his second win of the season. Schlenker settled for second. Paul Morgan,
Sr. brought his mount home with a third place finish, followed by Frankenfield
and Paciotti.
Heat race wins went to Rich Paciotti and Jeff Searfoss.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Accord Speedway Cancels Tonight's Show Due To Power Loss
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The ravages of Hurricane Irene continue to plague many areas in the Eastern
States and Ulster County in New York State is one of the areas that was hit hard
during the storm. As a result from the storm, the Palmer Family has been forced
to cancel the scheduled racing program this evening at the speedway. The Central
Hudson Power Company has been unable to restore power to the region due to the
extensive damage the storm caused to the trees and power lines and has left much
of the region without power including the speedway grounds.
The speedway was ravaged by the storm as buildings were washed away by the
nearby stream that turned into a raging river at the height of the storm. Much
physical damage to the grounds was caused with uprooted trees, damaged signs,
and some trucks that were caught in the flooded area. The Palmer Family quickly
sprung into action as the storm subsided and has spent the entire week in
readying the grounds for racing action again. The buzz of chain saws and earth
moving equipment were in place all week as the damaged trees were cut up as the
work staff at the speedway went into overtime mode to ready the speedway back to
the pristine condition the Palmer Family prides themselves in doing. The pit
road behind the speedway took a major hit and is in the process of being redone
for the final weeks of the racing season. While the speedway is ready to race
again this evening, the lack of power to the facility will result in an altered
schedule for the speedway for the remainder of the 2011 racing season.
Racing will resume on September 9th with Taylor Rental Night planned for the
eveing of activities at the speedway. Six divisions will be in action as the
Lightning Sprints return to the racing card. Also in place is a qualifying spot
for the Short Track National event held in October. The Night of Champions will
take place at the speedway on September 16th with a sponsor yet to be determined
and some details being determined for the event.
A super amount of interest is already in place for the upcoming King of the
Catskills weekend at the speedway. With some big dollars in place, a banner
field for all divisions is anticipated and all indications for the finest racing
event in the history of the speedway loom ahead. More information will be
released in the upcoming weeks and updated points will be readied as quickly as
possible.
Racing every Friday night from April through September. September 9th finds
Taylor Rental Night headlining the racing activity at the speedway along with
six divisions of racing in action and a qualifying position for the Short Track
Nationals. Pit Gates open at 4:30; Spectator Gates open at 5:00; Hot Laps are at
6:30 and the racing begins at 7 PM. Regular show admission is Adults $12.00
(12+) Children $3.00 (11+ under) Indoor Seating $20.00; Family four pack
special: 2 Adults + 2 Children and $20.00 in Food Vouchers for $40.00 ( a
savings of $10.00)
Racing fans should begin to make plans for the exciting King of the Catskills
two day weekend of great racing on September 23rd and 24th. With eight diverse
divisions of racing on the schedule, every true racing fan will want to make
sure they are in attendance to take in every second of the great competition
that will unfold. The ROC Modified Tour heads up the Friday evening of action
September 23rd with a large $7,000.00 payday awaiting the winner of the 100-lap
headliner with the Sportsman and Lightning Sprints also on the schedule.
September 24th finds the Spec Sportsman, the CRSA Sprint Cars, Pro Stock and
Pure Stocks in action.

NEWS FROM JERRY
HIGBIE RACING
GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Battling For Titles This Weekend
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Modified superstar Jerry Higbie and the Higbie Racing Team know they have to lay
it all out on the line this coming weekend as Jerry finds himself nineteen
points in arrears to veteran Modified campaigner Tommy Meier as the Orange
County Fair Speedway hosts it's Champions Night at the speedway on Saturday
evening. Jerry will have to be at his very best and some hardship or malfunction
must occur to Meier for Jerry to overcome the deficit that separates the two
drivers from a trip to the Champion's throne for the 2011 racing season, a
throne that Jerry has worn proudly for the past couple of seasons. A similar
situation exists at the Accord Speedway where 82 points now separate Modified
great Brett Hearn and Jerry from each other with just two events remaining to
close out the points for the season. A good run from Hearn on Friday evening
will ice the crown for Hearn and the title will be his first ever at the Accord
speedplant. "The Statesman" comes into the weekend of racing events prepped and
ready to go and still in search of his first victory of the season at either
facility. Jerry has found in being champion the road to travel becomes a tougher
chore as it makes him the marked man at his speedways of choice as every top
campaigner will be looking to unseat him from the lofty perch he has enjoyed the
past couple of seasons at both of his weekly haunts.
Jerry could only a muster an 11th place run last Friday evening at Accord as Dom
Roselli found the topside of the raceway as the place to race as he held off
comers in capturing his first win in some time. Mel Schrufer, Andy Bachetti,
Geoff Quackenbush and Mike Ricci completed the top five. The updated points at
Accord continue to show Brett Hearn as the point leader with 704 points. Jerry
Higbie is the runner-up with 622 tallies. Hard driving Mike Ricci has rallied
back to third place with 601 points and Danny Ceeden is fourth with 596 tallies.
Danny Tyler has continued his charge through the ranks and completes the top
five with 586 points. Jeff Heotzler heads up the second five with 569 points and
Andy Bachetti is seventh with 549 tallies. Richie Eurich is eighth with 456
points, Scott Ferrier has rallied into ninth with 453 markers and Dom Roselli
has made the move into the top ten with 443 points.
The updated points picture for the 2011 OCFS driving title now show Tommy Meier
out front with 646 tallies. Jerry Higbie is in the runner-up position just
nineteen points behind with 627 markers and Jack Brown is third with 577
tallies. Steve Dodd has moved into fourth place with 532 points Craig Mitchell
completes the top five with 532 tallies. Chris Whitehead heads up the second
five with 531 points and Bob McGannon is seventh with 521 markers. Richie Eurich
follows with 501 tallies to his credit. Jeremy Markle with 505 points and Mike
Ruggiero with 493 complete the top ten in points
With a whirlwind of activity at the Higbie Race Shops, Jerry continues on with a
decisive plan with his approach to the 2011 racing season. As previously noted,
Jerry is racing at OCFS in a recently spawned chassis of Higbie design for
competition at the hard clay oval. For competition at the Accord Speedway, Jerry
will be utilizing a 2009 Bicknell chassis and there will be a third car in the
works for competition out at some of the select open shows throughout the
Northeast. Power for the race cars will come from the well-noted Precision
Engine Shops with small block power for the Accord facility and big block power
for work at the OCFS facility.
The Higbie Family owned signature numbered 97 cars are a welcome addition to
their regular speedways having been missing in action at the speedways for the
past couple of seasons. The large and loyal contingent of Higbie racing fans are
delighted to see the famous and popular race cars working the racing surface
hard in quest of more victories and more championships. Long-time Higbie
sponsors Shaver Construction, Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Mr K's Carpet Service,
Hutchings Insurance, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing, Bada Bing Pizza and GA
Motorsports Media will all be assisting the Higbie Racing Team efforts.
Higbie's business, Hig-Fab, has been super busy throughout the off-season but is
currently making appointments for race cars to be refurbished for the season as
the 2011 racing season. With sponsorship dollars dwindling, many of the racers
are seeking to stay within the restraints of their tightening racing budgets so
many of the racers have opted to retain their current equipment and have the
experts with the Hig-Fab Team perform their magic to update the race cars. The
Hig-Fab shop is ready, willing and able to serve your racing needs whether it be
an entire new body or just new body pieces. The Hig-Fab shop can do frame
repairs or front and rear clips and can supply new bumpers for any Chassis car
racing on the circuit, including Slingshots and Micro Sprints. Scaling of the
race cars and Performance shock work is all done in-house. For more information
regarding the services and capabilities of the highly trained Hig-Fab Staff,
please contact the shop at: 845 294 0898. Don't wait to have your race car
updated or re-skinned for the next racing season, the time to prepare for the
new season is now. Hit the tracks running as the experts at Hig-Fab can
eliminate your worries for a great looking and great handling race car.

Accord, NY - Midweek Madness Falls To Power Outage And Champions Are Named At Accord Speedway
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Hurricane Irene unleashed a torrent of hurt and damage to much of the
Eastern portion of the country last weekend and many portions of the East
Coast still remain without power and the many thousands are still trying to
dig themselves out of the peril that was forced upon them. The Accord
Speedway was among the casualties as the normally peaceful stream that runs
behind the speedway became a raging river in just a few hours and washed
away buildings, flooded equipment and tossed mature trees around lke they
were mere matchsticks and above all took out the power supply to the
immediate area. At this writing the speedway remains without power although
it is hoped to have the power restored before noon Friday to enable the
speedway to host it's regular Friday night racing card. The scheduled
Midweek Madness program was cancelled and with no remaining Wednesday night
dates, the MWM season is official and complete and all points have been
finalized for the season.
The Palmer Family hopes to present a five division show on Friday evening headed up by the VP Fuels/Rhinebeck Ford Modified Division going to war for the $2,000.00 payday on the line for the victor. The evening of events will be sponsored by Orange County Fair Speedway and the Eastern States qualifying spot will be up for grabs theri headline evening. With just two point races remaining, the action on the speedway will bring out the best of the best as each driver tries to find the quick way around one of the most exciting race tracks in the Northeast. One championship has been settled to date as "Mr Excitement" Kevin Ward has already clinched the Camper's Barn Sportsman title.
Below are the
final points for Accord Speedway Mid-Week Madness program and noted that on
August 17th double points were given in error to the Junior and Senior
Slingshots. The week of August 24th was the correct double points week and
compiled by Bob Freer, the Accord Speedway Handicapper.

BOBBY AND DANNY VARIN RACING NEWS
Sharon Springs, NY- Varin Racing Readying For The Weekend
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The Varin Racing Team, headed up by Modified superstar Bobby Varin and his son
the multi-talented Danny Varin, will swing back into competition this weekend at
the Glen Ridge Speedway on Friday evening, pull duty at Utica Rome on Sunday
with Bobby back in the Sprint car and heading back to Glen Ridge on Monday
evening for the big dollar purse event at the speedway. While Bobby fell a bit
short in his bids for Championship titles at his regular season haunts of Glen
Ridge, Fonda and Utica Rome, the season has been another solid and successful
season for the Sharon Springs, New York driver. With win totals in the double
digits again for 2011, Bobby captured the first Sprint Car win of his career in
2011 and continues to change the face of the Fonda Speedway record book with
each win he achieves at the speedway. Danny Varin has also enjoyed a stellar
season in racing as the 2011 campaign has proved to be a breakout year for the
youngster as he scored two wins during the season at Fonda in the Modified ranks
to finish sixth in the points and added two wins on the CRSA Sprint Car racing
schedule to show the versaility he possesses behind the wheel of the race car.
Going into the Friday night racing action at Glen Ridge, Kenny Tremont has
already locked up the title as he enjoys a 66 point advantage over Bobby Varin
with 868 to Bobby's 802. Jack Brown is third just one point behind Bobby with
801. Craig Hanson is a few more points back with 799 and 2010 track champion
Jamike Sowle rounds out the top five with 725 markers. The remainder of the top
ten shows Elmo Reckner, Paul Kinney, Mike Ronca, Don Ronca and Richie Price
following in that order. The last event at the speedway saw Kenny Tremont secure
the win over Craig Hanson, Paul Kinmney, Dustin Delaney and Bobby Varin.
The Fonda Speedway saw Bobby fall short by nine points as he sought his seventh
title at the speedway. Ronnie Johnson enjoyed a solid campaign and captured his
first championship at Fonda with 711 poibnts earned to Bobby's 702. Ryan Odasz
finished third at Fonda with a total of 638 points earned and former champion
Matt DeLorenzo was fourth with 628 points. Mark Kislowski completed the top five
with 594 talies. Danny Vain utilized a late rally to come from eleventh in
points to finish in a tie for sixth with veteran campaigner Jeff Trombley with
573 tallies each. Alton Palmer with 564, Jim Davis with 560, and Elmo Reckner
with 559 completed the top ten in points.
The Utica Rome events on Sunday evening will close the points at the speedway
for the season as Stewart Friesen leads the points chase with 762 points earned.
Pat Ward, with 736 tallies, will seeking some magic of his own as he remains
behind Friesen by just 26 points but will need some help to reclaim the title he
lost to Friesen one season ago. Bobby Varin is third with 683 points and Ronnie
Johnson is just behind with 674 points. Todd Burley rounds out the top five with
643 markers. Alan Johnson, Bill Trexler Jr, Willy Decker, Ted Lamb and Casey
Williams complete the top ten.
In additional point racing action, Billy Decker leads the current ROC points
with 523 talies with Danny Johnson and Stewart Friesen tied for the runner-up
slot with 488 points to their credit. Jeff Strunk with 455, Matt Sheppard with
413, Pat Ward with 406, Brett Hearn with 371, Bobby Varin with 344, Duane Howard
with 288 and Ryan Watt with 282 complete the top ten in the traveling series.
Pat Ward is leading the Thunder on the Thruway Series with 296 points with Bobby
Varin in the runner-up role with 272 points. Stewart Friesen and Billy Decker
are tied with 270 points each and Matt Sheppard completes the top five with 252
tallies to his credit. Bobby ranks 21st in the ESS point standings in limited
appearances and Danny Varin is 21st in the CRSA point standings in a limited
role.
The Varin Racing Team salutes all of the champions at the speedways this year as
the competition has been tough all season long and a real tribute to the caliber
of talent that makes one have to earn each foot of real estate he gains on the
race track. Bobby is geared and ready to defend the Fonda track title he
captured for the sixth time in his illustrious career in 2010. Bobby will be
steering the famous 00 race cars of legendary car owner Dave Cruickshank and his
Dover Brake business. Cruickshank has two cars readied for Bobby and both of the
race cars come out of the Bicknell shops and powered by JPM motors. Son Danny
has returned to the seat of the Ed Monger owned Magsarus sponsored hot rod for
2011 and the team has enjoyed a great racing season. The race machine is out of
the Teo Shops and will carry a Gary Waters powerplant to supply the power to the
rear wheels.
Bobby is aboard the Marv Pedrick/Andy Romano owned racer for his battles at Glen
Ridge. A new race car out of the Bicknell Shops has a selection of Pat Morrison
or Jeff Boyd powerplants to choose from for the racing action and the car may be
utilized for select additional events later in the season. Bobby will join
forces with Ken Saya and the Commercial Roofing Team for all big shows and the
ROC Dirt Series. A brand new race car was in place for the team at Syracuse and
was later utilized for the Eastern States race at Orange County and World Finals
races at Charlotte where Bobby landed a pair of sixth place finishes on National
TV. Another Bicknell car is in the stable and will compliment the team with
Morrison and Kevlar powerplants supplying the go-power. Bobby has also enjoyed
his entry into the world of sprint car racing and once again will find the Pete
Demitraszek sprinter available to him for select excursions where Bobby can pull
off double duty at the facilities. Danny Varin tried his hand at sprint car
racing last season and enjoyed his time in the seat and he too will find some
time behind the wheel of the 305 Dan Cuomo Sprinter at select events in the
area.
Bobby has enjoyed a great career in the annals of racing. He is a past winner of
the season ending classic Eastern States event held at the Orange County Fair
Speedway having won the event in 2003 with a spectacular performance to claim
the victory, a win that remains high on the list of achievements in the
illustrious career of Bobby Varin. Bobby has also captured two New Yorker
triumphs in recent years at the Utica Rome Speedway. In 2008 Bobby won the event
in a 200 lap version and this past year won again this time leading every lap in
a shortened version 100-lap grind in the curtain closer at the speedway. Even
larger for Bobby in 2011 will be a couple of benchmarks in his racing career.
The Varin team continues to seek the same winning formula for success they
enjoyed in 2010. The car owner for the Varin Team is the legendary Dave
Cruickshank and the hard working team is headed up by Crew Chief John Bakuzonis,
and crew members Dave Cross, Jeff Preston, Tyler Preston, Jack Hanna, Bob Gray
and Garret Sagatis. With additional cars in the stable for Varin with the
Commercial Roofing entry and the Romano/Pedrick machine, the 2011 season ahead
will be full of racing excitement from beginning to end.
The Varin Family credits much of their success to their fine group of sponsors
who continue to support their racing efforts. Dover Brake, Joe Bertothy Racing,
JSB Fabrications, Countryman CARQUEST, Land Designs, Supply Wagon Rentals,
Corigliano Towing, Leslie Home Improvement, GA Motorsports Media and Boys Club
of America have all been solid in their support of the Varin racing efforts and
encourage the racing community to support all of these fine sponsors whenever
they have the capacity to do so. The Varin Team also welcomes new sponsor Jeff
Bristol Trucking to the fine list of sponsors for the team. Bobby and Danny
Varin would like to thank their their loyal fan base for the strong support in
the past and look for continued support into the 2011 racing season and beyond.
More updates will follow shortly for the Varin Racing team efforts. Follow the
success of the 00 and 93 Varin Racing Team at their respective websites with all
of the latest updates and information at: http://www.bobbyvarin.com or

RACING NEWS
New Glarus, Wisconsin: "Showtime" Zack Riddle Finishes In Runner-up Role In Bid
For Madison Title
By Steve Pados, R&R Motorsports Racing Media
Riding the crest of a three straight win streak "Showtime" Zack Riddle went into
the final night of point racing at the always tough Madison International
Speedway knowing he he needed to have a bit of lady luck on his side if he was
going to displace defending track champion Jeremy Miller from his lofty perch.
Buoyed by the consecutive wins, Zack had cut deeply into the point lead held by
Miller as the final night rolled around but in order to claim the title he would
need to have some mechanical concerns beset Miller and a great run by himself to
capture the crown. Zack did his part as he raced to a solid third place finish
in the final feature at Madison but Miller captured the event and along with it
secured the point championship for the third consecutive season. Many time track
champion Bobby Wilberg finished in the runner-up role with Zack Riddle
completing the top three. The R&R Motorsports Team with Zack Riddle at the
controls has enjoyed a great 2011 racing season and the three straight wins will
be the basis and foundation of how the newly formed team will plan for the 2012
racing season and will look at the future of their racing program. The R&R
Motorsports Team has been a successful adaptation of the successful Urban Force
Racing program that was launched in 2007 to give students a chance to learn
about the working facets of race cars while being educated to become automotive
technicians through their school curriculum.
Track champion Jeremy Miller once again captured the Madison track title with
960 points earned. Zack Riddle closed fast on Miller and landed in the runner-up
role with 918 points earned. Bobby Wilberg was third with 896 points scored and
Dale Nottestad was fourth with 813 tallies to his credit. Scott Broughton
dropped a couple of notches in the last few races and completed the top five
with 757 tallies. Ryan Goldade with 718 points to his credit headed up the
second five with Ty Majeski with 684, Kevin Knuese with 641, Chad Stevens with
601 and Ed Szelagowski with 557 points filling out the top ten finishers.
The season for the R&R Motorsports Team still has a few remaining dates left
before the completion of the 2011 racing season. A trip to the Jefferson
Speedway is forthcoming and the Team will be back in action at Madison for the
Annual Fall Classic. The team will complete the season by competing at the
Annual Octoberfest event held at the Lacrosse Speedway.
The pairing of Riddle with Urban Force Racing in 2010 has brought a great deal
of success to everyone in their initial season of competing together as a team
and the instant chemistry and friendship shared by everyone involved with the
team has put the newly developed R&R Motorsports Team front and center with the
student manned racing team. The initial season of the successful pairing in 2010
had Riddle finishing third in the final points tally for the season at the
Madison International Speedway and with the successful 2011 season run at the
speedway behind them albeit in the runner-up role, the quick progress of the
team and the bright future ahead of them will find the team seeking additional
rewards before the season is completed.
Zack Riddle has raised the bar in his career each step of the way as he began
his racing career in 2000 at the age of ten in the go kart divisions and raced
with them successfully until the end of the 2003 racing season. In 2004, Riddle
took his first ride in a Late Model type race car and ran an aborted season,
competing in just six events at the Madison International Speedway. Riddle began
to run the Late Model division as a regular in 2005 and has been a fixture at
the speedway ever since, winning his first feature at MIS in 2006. When the
Madison track ran Super Late Models in 2008, Riddle was selected as the Rookie
of the Year in the now defunct division. Riddle was also named the fan's
favorite driver in 2009, a title he also captured in 2006 and adding to his
"Showtime" nickname.
While Urban Force Racing now makes the transition to R&R Motorsports Team, the
group enjoyed a great history in motorsports since launching the initial program
in 2007 and has sought to improve upon their marks each succeeding year in
racing. Team Manager Pete Raskovic moves into a new role as co-owner of the race
team along with Crew Chief Steve Riddle. Raskovic who with the late ABC Supply
owner Ken Hendricks was able to forge ahead with the launching of the initial
program, has been the mainstay of the student oriented racing team is quite
proud of the success of the many students who have been educated within the
Urban Force Racing Team program.
The unique concept of teaching students the inner workings of a race car along
with all of the technical background in automotive technology, sets the Urban
Force program apart from the typical normal school day. The students are hands
on and work with a purpose as the program is the model for similar technical
programs across the country. The new student team for the 2011 racing season
consists Michael Raskovic, Jesse Tanner and Bryant Williams and the students
will be paired with the existing R&R/Urban Force Team members that include Team
Manager Pete Raskovic, Crew Chief Steve Riddle, Wes Arndt, Brett Guschinki,
County Judge James Beer. Sponsorship for the new R&R Motorsports Team is
provided by Diane Hendricks at ABC Supply Co. Additional sponsorship support
comes from Homberg Inc., Morgan Shoes, Keystone Farms Natural Cheese, Welders
Supply Company, GA Motorsports Media and CARQUEST Gasoline Alley, Vince's
Italian Restaurante, Big Radio WEKZ, Monroe WI.

In the UMP Open Wheel Modified division his night would not go as well as the
team had to change the transmission after heat race action. After starting at
the back of the feature he was up to the seventh position, when more issues
struck bringing his night to an early end. Full results are available at
www.CallawayRaceways.com.
Saturday night marked Jake's seventh win of the 2011 season as he topped the
ULMA Late Model Series event at Scotland County Speedway (Memphis, Missouri).
The win further padded his advantage in the ULMA national standings.
It would also be another solid outing in the UMP Open Wheel Modified division
for Griffin as he raced his way to a second place finish at the checkered flag.

Jake concluded another three day weekend on Sunday night at Quincy Raceway
(Quincy, Illinois) with a UMP Open Wheel Modified Weekly Racing Series Event.
Fifteen entries were on hand for the program, and after finishing sixth in his
heat race, Griffin started 12th on the grid for the feature event. Midway
through the feature Jake had worked his way up to the sixth position, when a
restart saw a car in front of Griffin have motor issues. Jake would get on the
brakes to avoid the slowing car, which allowed several cars to slip past him.
After slipping to the 14th position, he would recover to a 9th place finish.

The upcoming Labor Day weekend, September 2nd-4th, will see the team return to

Egan Back in Winning Form at West End
The 2011 season has seen a few ups and downs with drivers rebounding from some
bad luck to regain the winning form and for S&S Speedway driver Simon Egan, this
was one of those defining moments.
Simon started the 2011 season as the virtually unbeatable driver with wins at
Kutztown and Hamlin, throwing in a great tour run at Lindas and being a contender
in all events the 55 was entered in.
Along the way came some rough spots at Reading and Kutztown, but after his night
at West End on August 29th,Egan is back to his winning ways and his fist pumping
under Bobby Stull's checkered put the finishing touches on a solid 30 lap
run, putting Simon and his S&S crew celebrating in victory lane.
A great field of 38 Slingshots took part in heat qualifying and a B Main which
would lock 24 cars into the Hammer Down / Miller Motorsports West End Fair Super
National .Heat winners were Marc Daniels,Kyle Rohner,Matt Carman and Bill
Weaver.Michael Glass best an 18 car B Main field.
The West End Super National, racing under the Borgers Speedway Production team
of Steve Heckman and Rich Raidline, saw a nice crowd rooting the Slingshots on as
the field came to the green.
Simon Egan was up to the early race challenges with caution fever slowing down
the race pace after 3 laps in the books.Racing on the 1/8 mile, flat track showed
that driver talent and a trustworthy chassis set-up could get your car moving
forward as B Main qualifiers Gary Hieber,Cody Kline and Ray Nemeth,Jr. were
quickly sitting in the top 15 and Kyle Rohner was now getting the Weaver
Remodeling # 1 running lap speeds equal to or faster than Egan as the laps were
quickly counting down.
14 second laps were now replacing the 15 second ones and the fans were
witnessing one of the best 3 car battles seen the whole year as Brett Bieber,Joe
Bodenschatz and Matt Mertz were trading places at each end of the speedway as
the trio was tracking down 3rd place running Kyle Hieber in the newly purchased
47.
The late stages of the race was now going to decide the back end of the top 10
as Shannon Smith,Cody Kline,Gary Hieber and Kurt Bettler were becoming more
aggressive with a good payout and valuable National points on the line.
The checker was waving as Egan took the hard fought win by a 1/2 second over
Rohner with Kyle Hieber's trip to Gilbert,PA worthwhile with his 3rd place run.
Bodenschatz's red # 24 got 4th place money as Penn State student Matt Mertz
rounded out the top 5.Brett Bieber just edged a fast closing Shannon Smith for
6th with Cody Kline on Smith's rear bumper to garner a strong 8th after starting
22nd.
Gary Hieber who probably passed the most cars during the night's action came
from 23rd to 9th and "Kadillac" Kurt Bettler slotted in for 10th place money
aboard the Scott Miller 66.
Results:
1.55 Simon Egan 2. 1 Kyle Rohner 3. 47 Kyle Hieber 4. 24 Joe Bodenschatz 5. 97

DNQ: Kyle Rode,Greg Zellman,Jim Bassett,Eric Snyder,Jillian Long,Bobby

Sidenotes: Kim Glass made the A Main in the 1J normally driven by AJ Gerhart
after time off for the birth of her daughter Kayla.Ray Nemeth,Jr. got the Herr's
101 out of mothballs since it's last race at Atlantic City in January and
proceeded to get a top 15 finish.Joe Bodenschatz was getting quicker with each
apssing lap and could've been a contender with more laps.Fast Time Award of $100
sponsored by Slinger Warehouse was won by Marc Daniels. The 30 lap feature was
run off in 22 minutes.Lindas Speedway announcer,Mike Batz,did a great job in
keeping the fans informed with the action on the speedway.Micro sprint driver
Darin Bartholomew was tending to the scoring for the evening and kept the slow
moving with his quick relaying of restart lineups.Car counts were slightly
down, but many teams had Hurricane Irene issues to deal with and for many
drivers, the first day of school and college.

Jason Hughes Scores Second USMTS Hunt Win of 2011
Westville, Oklahoma (08/31/11) – Jason Hughes piloted his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Gressel
Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified to his second triumph of
the 2011 Casey's General USMTS Hunt on Saturday night at Upper Iowa Speedway
(Decorah, Iowa).
The team resumed their pursuit of the 2011 Casey's General USMTS Hunt
Championship on Thursday night at I-35 Speedway (Winston, Missouri) as a total
of 29 cars signed in for battle. Jason began the night by finishing second in
his heat race to lock into the ninth starting for the 40 lap, $2,000-to-win
feature. In the main event Hughes would fail to make up much ground as he was
able to manage only a tenth place finish.
Cedar County Speedway (Tipton, Iowa) was the next track on the docket for the
Casey's General USMTS tour as the competitors invaded the facility on Friday
night. Forty Open Wheel modifieds entered the event, and after charging from the
fifth starting spot to win his heat race, Hughes once again found himself in the
redraw for the feature. After receiving the sixth starting spot for the main
event, Jason would advance three spots to record a third place finish behind
race winner, Johnny Scott, and Zack VanderBeek. It was another solid point's
night for Hughes in the driver point's and manufacturer's points.
Jason Hughes stormed to his second Casey's General USMTS Open Wheel Modified
Hunt feature win of 2011 on Saturday night at Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah,
Iowa). With twenty-six cars entered, Jason charged from his sixth starting spot
to a third place finish in heat race action to transfer to the redraw for the
feature, where he received the pole starting spot alongside Rick Beebe. As the
40 lap, $2,000-to-win race went green it was Hughes, who bolted to the lead.
After a lap one caution the remainder of the event would go caution free as
Jason cruised to the feature win, which came over Jon Tesch, Ryan Gustin, Zack
VanderBeek, and Johnny Scott. The win was his twelfth overall of the 2011
season!
Jason continues to be fourth in the Casey's General USMTS Hunt standings, and
Hughes Race Cars continues to lead the Tiger Rear Ends Manufacturers Points.

THE JERSEY RUSH
IRENE FAILS TO STOP THE JERSEY RUSH. . . . .
JJ GRASSO STORMS TO IMPRESSIVE $5,000 410 SPRINT VICTORY AS BILLY PAUCH TOPS THE
MODIFIEDS IN THE "JERSEY RUSH" TUESDAY NIGHT AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
NEW EGYPT, NJ . . . . . . Rain, hail, sleet and snow will not stop the mailman
and Hurricane Irene was not about to stop the first presentation of the "JERSEY
RUSH" Tuesday night at the New Egypt Speedway.
The event battled plenty of rain, damaging high winds and even a power outage at
the track, but when it was all said and done, JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, NJ lived
up to his "Jersey Jet" name to win the 30 lap, $5,000 to win JERSEY RUSH. Grasso
wrestled the lead from Mark Smith on lap thirteen and survived two restarts to
score his first ever 410 sprint car victory. Grasso was driving the John PInter
owned sprinter and for Grasso, it was just his second time driving a 410
sprinter. In the thirty lap modified feature, Billy Pauch was the winner. Pauch
started deep in the pack and took the lead on lap nineteen for David Van Horn.
Pauch earned $3,000 for the victory in the feature event that ran non-stop. The
checker flag in the modified feature fell at 10 PM, allowing the big crowd ample
time to visit their favorite drivers in the pit area.
The JERSEY RUSH was a co-promotion between Lenny Sammons, his sons Danny and
Davey and special events organizer Bob Miller. The show was viewed as a big
success as a result of the large crowd on hand, outstanding dust-free track
conditions and an efficiently well run program thanks the officials and staff of
the New Egypt Speedway.
In the 410 sprint time trials, Lance Dewease set a new one lap track record of
14.193 for the recently re-configured "D"shaped New Egypt Speedway. Sprint heat
race winners were Davey Sammons, Daryn Pittman and Rick Lafferty. In the big
block modifieds, heats were won by Dave Hunt, David Van Horn and Billy Pauch as
Stan Frankenfield won the modified consolation.
In the 30 lap JERSEY RUSH for sprint cars, Mark Smith led the field down for the
green flag in the feature event. Smith set the pace with JJ Grasso in the chase
followed by Davey Sammons, Lance Dewease and Rick Lafferty. By lap seven, Smith
had a six car length lead over Grasso as all eyes were on Daryn Pittman who now
moved into fifth.
On lap night, Grasso took a run at the lead, pulling within inches of Smith and
as the field passed the line on lap nine. The yellow was then displayed for
Davey Sammons who tagged the inside guardrail and spun in turn four as Shane
Stewart spun to avoid contact.
When green flag racing resumed, Mark Smith continued to set the pace with Grasso
about three car lengths behind as Lance Dewease and Daryn Pittman tried to reel
in the top two. The move of the race came on lap fourteen when Grasso made the
pass around Mark Smith for the lead. As the field passed for the halfway mark,
Grasso was the leader followed by Mark Smith, Pittman, Dewease and Rick
Lafferty.
The second yellow flag of the race was displayed on lap sixteen for Dave Wilson
and Robbie Stillwaggon who spun in turn four. The restart saw Grasso get a good
jump on the field, pulling a six car length lead by lap seventeen. On lap
nineteen, the yellow was displayed, this time for Jim Campbell.
On the restart, Mark Smith managed to stay closer to Grasso with an attempt to
regain the lost position and by the way, Daryn Pittman was now charging after
the leaders followed by Dewease and Fred Rahmer now in the top five.
Grasso maintained a several car length lead by now Smith had to stop challenging
for the lead and start defending his runner-up spot from Daryn Pittman. It was a
two car race for second with Smith and Pittman battling for the final five laps.
With the checker flag waiving, Grasso scored an impressive win over Mark Smith,
Daryn Pittman, Lance Dewease and Fred Rahmer.
In the thirty lap modified feature, David Van Horn was the early race leader
with Jimmy Blewett in the chase along with Tim Tanner Jr. The side-by-side
battles where taking place everywhere on the finely prepared track surface. On
lap ten, Tanner made a bid for the lead, but settled back into the runner-up
spot. Blewett ran in third with Jeff Strunk now joining the party in fourth with
Jimmy Horton fifth. By lap fourteen, Blewett moved into second on lap fourteen
and made his bid to reel in the leader.
At the halfway point of the race, Van Horn was running a brilliant race with
Blewett second and out of nowhere, Billy Pauch moved into the picture racing
third with Tanner and Strunk making up the top five. On lap sixteen, Pauch moved
into second and set out to chase down the leader.
By lap nineteen, Pauch was the leader with Van Horn now in second followed by
Blewett, Strunk and Horton.. With just five laps remaining, Jeff Strunk pass
Blewett and took over the third position. Pauch had a solid lead but there was
still plenty of passing within the rest of the field. On the final lap, Jimmy
Horton passed Jimmy Blewett to finish fourth with Blewett fifth. Pauch took the
win with Van Horn second and Jeff Strunk third.
THE JERSEY RUSH 410 SPRINT FEATURE FINISH: JJ Grasso, Mark Smith, Daryn Pittman,
Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Rick Lafferty, Chad Layton, Todd Shaffer, Davey
Sammons, Curt Michael, Mark Bitner, Shane Stewart, Jeff Geiges, Brent Marks,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series
RYAN BERNAL SPRINTS TO THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY
By Lance Jennings
SANTA MARIA, CA – AUGUST 29, 2011... After a slower car spun and collected
leader Mike Spencer on lap fifteen, Hollister's Ryan Bernal fought off a
determined "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. to score the feature win at Chris Kearns'
Santa Maria Speedway. The victory marked Bernal's third straight triumph with
the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series and tightens up the championship
points battle heading to Hanford on September 10th.
By virtue of a four pill drawn for the main event inversion, Ryan Bernal shared
the front row with 3-time USAC/CRA Champion Mike Spencer. Making his first
career start with the USAC West Coast 360s, Spencer took command in Mark
Priestley's #7X Roy Miller Freightlines / Sander Engineering Sherman. Bernal
settled into second, followed by the 2009 Series Champion Justyne Hamblin, Faria,
and fast time qualifier Dennis Howell.
While several yellow flags plagued the event, Spencer maintained a torrid pace
around the Santa Maria clay oval. Bernal stayed close behind the leader as the
pair separated themselves from the field. "Hollywood" Faria eventually shook
free from the pack and began to reel in the leaders. By mid-race, the trio were
in a tight formation and steadily working their way through slower traffic.
That is when lady luck frowned on Spencer. A slower car spun in front of the
lead trio in turn four and caught the leader. Mike's machine came to a stop and
was tagged by Bernal. Ryan narrowly avoided disaster himself was able to
continue on, as did Faria. Spencer was able to rejoin the field and roared back
to seventh at the checkered flags.
Now with the lead, Bernal would have his hands full with Faria, Hamblin, and
Howell. Executing a great restart, the youngster began to stretch out his lead.
Danny was able to close in and apply pressure, but Ryan held tough and hit his
marks. The laps counted down in rapid fashion and Bernal scored the victory,
with Faria in second followed by Hamblin, Howell, and point leader Richard
VanderWeerd rounding out the top five drivers.
Piloting Danny Olmstead's #11D S&S Automotive / Dorso's Automotive Maxim, Ryan
Bernal won his third straight main event. The 30-lap victory ties a series
record, set last season by T.J. Smith and vaults Bernal to second in the
championship points. Now fifty-three points behind Richard VanderWeerd, the race
for the crown will heat up with four point races remaining on the schedule.
Earlier in the night, the former Wingless Spec Sprint Champion was fourth fast
in time trials and scored fourth in his heat race. To date, Bernal has two heat
race victories, eight top-10 finishes, and leads the series with 116 feature
laps led.
Tipton's "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. raced to second from his fifth starting
position. Driving Junior Bowman's #2X Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding
Performance Bullet, Faria qualified seventh quick and claimed second in his heat
race. The veteran driver is fourth in the point chase with one feature win, two
Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards, three heat race victories, six top-10
finishes, and thirty-two feature laps led to his credit.
Justyne Hamblin of Hanford had her best finish of the season with a third place
performance. Piloting the JH Motorsports #8 Speed Tech sponsored by the Tachi
Palace Hotel & Casino and Dias Law Firm, the former series champion was second
quick on the night and took second in her heat race. Currently seventh in the
standings, Hamblin has one heat race victory, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger
Award, and six top-10 finishes on the season.
Scoring fourth in the Santa Maria feature was Dennis Howell of Rancho Palos
Verdes. Driving the family owned #62 San Pedro Auto Body / Howell-Meyer Racing
Maxim, Dennis was earned his first Sander Engineering Fast Time Award of the
season and was third in his heat race. The USAC Western Midget Series graduate
is sixth in the title chase with two heat race victories, two Keizer Wheels Hard
Charger Awards, and eight top-10 finishes on the year.
Point leader Richard VanderWeerd of Visalia earned the Keizer Wheels Hard
Charger / Best Passing Job honors on the night with a fifth place run after
starting thirteenth. Piloting the family owned #10 VanderWeerd Construction /
Battery Worx Maxim, Richard qualified fifth quick and was fifth in his heat
race. To date, VanderWeerd has one feature win, three Sander Engineering Fast
Time Awards, three heat race victories, and leads the series with ten top-10
finishes. In addition, he has led seventeen feature laps during the 2011
campaign.
Gardena's Greg Alexander returned to action after a one race absence to claim
victory in the Extreme Muffler's Heat Race #1. Making his debut in a Maxim
chassis formerly driven by Matt Mitchell, Alexander qualified thirteenth and
scored eighth in the feature after an early mishap. The driver of Chuck Tyler's
#72 Barnes Systems / Tyler Pool Service entry is ninth in points with two heat
race victories, six top-10 finishes, and six feature laps led to his credit.
T.J. Smith of Fresno drove Steve LeGras' #14 UHL Rubber / S&S Automotive Maxim
to the Heat Race #2 triumph, sponsored by Saldana Racing Products and Keizer
Wheels. The defending Santa Maria track champion was fourteenth quick in time
trials and scored sixteenth in the feature. Currently eighth in the standings,
Smith has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, three heat race victories,
four top-10 finishes, and has led thirty feature laps on the season.
Lompoc's Jeff Culver made an infrequent start and narrowly won the DJ Safety
Heat Race #3. Piloting his #71C Rancho Nipomo Deli & BBQ / Central Coast Powder
Coating Stinger, Culver bested Campbell's Nico Russo and Mike Spencer of
Temecula in a 3-wide finish at the checkered flags. Earlier in the program,
Culver qualified eighteenth fast on the night, and would later claim fifteenth
in the 30-lap main event.

St. Johns, PA- It seems like the second half of the racing season at Mountain Speedway has all been about beating the weather or rescheduling rained out events. Evidence of this is the Brad Kline Memorial Street Stock Shootout, which was initially slated for August 28. Due to Hurricane Irene, the show has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 18, and it will run in conjunction with the originally scheduled line up for the day, which consists of Sport Modifieds, Late Models, Factory Stocks and INEX Legends.
It’s been three years since Brad Kline, a two-time Mountain Speedway Street Stock champion passed away. His memory continues to live on through his family and friends, and also through the drivers that competed with track great. In memory of a true champion and for the third straight year, the Kline family has teamed up with Mountain Speedway to organized the running of the Third Annual Brad Kline Street Stock Memorial, which will now be held on Sunday, September 18.
Sponsored by the Crossroad’s Inn in Mountaintop and C&D Landscaping of Walnutport, this year’s event should have the largest payout to of the Kline Memorial races held thus far. Heat races will set the main event field and up to thirty cars will take the green flag. The winner of the 50-lap main event will pocket $1,500 and the bragging rights that Joe Barbush (2009 winner) and Chip Wanamaker (2010 winner) carry as former winners.
Laps are available for sponsorship at $10 each and the leader of the sponsored laps will receive the cash following post race inspection. Anyone interested in sponsoring laps can see Dean Kline at the Crossroad’s in, or Gene Ostrowski at the speedway.
Originally scheduled with the Brad Kline Memorial event was the “Modified Spectacular”. However, due to being rained out and since rescheduled, the Modified Spectacular has been removed from the program.
There will be a $20 registration fee for Street Stock drivers.
Grandstand admission for the afternoon is just $10 for ages 11 and older. Children 10 years of age and younger will be admitted for free.
The complete payout, along with the rules and race format can be vied by following the Brad Kline Memorial link from www.mountainspeedway.com.

Momentum Builder: Chub Frank Picks Up Second Win Of Season At Lernerville
Speedway
BEAR LAKE, PA – Aug. 29, 2011 – Once again an off-weekend trip to Lernerville
Speedway in Sarver, Pa., helped Chub Frank get back in the winning groove.
With the World of Outlaws Late Model Series idle, Frank visited the
four-tenths-mile oval last Friday night and rode off with a victory in the
25-lap DIRTcar UMP Late Model feature. It was his second triumph of the season
at a track he considers one of his favorites.
“It always feels good to get a win,” said Frank, who also won on June 2 at
Lernerville. “We weren’t exactly where we needed to be, but we were pretty
close. We were just trying to get the car ready for Eldora (Speedway’s World 100
on Sept. 9-10), so to end up with a win was a nice bonus.”
Driving his familiar Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1*,
the 49-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., benefitted from a lap-18 tangle
involving leaders Russell King and Dave Hess Jr. Both drivers were knocked from
contention due to the scrape, which gave Frank new life.
“Russ and Hess were out there pretty good and I was taking it pretty easy where
I was,” said Frank, who started 11th. “I was just there trying some stuff so I
wasn’t gonna do anything stupid and tear the car up, but after those guys got
together I restarted fourth. With the double-file that put me on the outside and
things just opened up on the restart.”
Frank overtook Brian Swartzlander for the lead on lap 20 and never looked back.
He held off Ken Schaltenbrand following a last-lap caution flag to record his
14th career win at Lernerville, moving him past Hall of Famer Dick Swartzlander
and Dick Barton into 11th place on the track’s alltime dirt Late Model win list.
Frank, who sits fifth in the WoO LMS points standings, will return to action on
the national this weekend for a doubleheader on Sept. 3 at Tyler County Speedway
in Middlebourne, W.Va. (Black Diamond 125) and Sept. 4 at Roaring Knob
Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa. He also plans to enter the UFO Late
Model Series West Virginia State Championship event on Fri., Sept. 2, at Tyler
County.
