HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Hamlin, PA - Rode, Hartman, Kunsman, Kober, Johnston, Burke And Kurtz Share The
Spotlight In Hamlin Speedway Feature Wins On S&S Speedway Night
by: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
A dedicated field of energetic racers and a great group of loyal racing fans
converged together in the Pocono Mountains on Saturday evening with all of the
elements of surprise and disguise as the warm and breezy weather of the summer
season added to last evening's racing events at the Hamlin Speedway as the Smith
Family presented the ninth racing card of the season at their 1/5 mile lightning
quick speedway. A new track surface greeted the quality field of racing talent
as extra time was granted to the 125 entries to dial in their cars for the
exciting evening that laid ahead for them. The seven feature event card was
completed at 9:44 in the evening as the racers were on their best behavior as
the events clicked off in record time. When the final event had been checkered,
new faces emerged in the Hamlin Speedway Winners Circle with "The Hot Rod" Kyle
Rode capturing his first main event in the All Star Slingshot showdown, Tommy
Kunsman returning to victory lane in the 270 main, Jeff Hartman capturing his
second win of the week in the 600 Micros, Dale Kober returning to the winner's
circle, Grady Johnston scoring his first win in the Rookie 270's, Austin Burke
scoring his second consecutive win in the Rookie 600's and "The Midget" Chris
Kurtz nailing his second win of the week in the Junior Slingshot encounter.
The evening began with the Junior Slingshot twenty lap attraction and it was
Kurtz showing the hot hand from the opening bell as he drove off from fellow
pole sitter Kyle Gruber to quickly establishment himself as a showstopper as he
raced away from the quality field of youngsters. Gruber gave way to hard driving
Thomas Strupp in the runner-up role and the third generation driving Strupp made
for an interesting show as his Strupp racing hot rod was a tad faster in lap
times but couldn't find the drive off of the turns to challenge Kurtz for the
point. Kurtz drove his line to a close win over Strupp at the end of the twenty
lap event giving the youngster two wins for the event as Kurtz had captured the
Empire Region event at the Accord Speedway on Wednesday night. Zack Weisenfluh
continued his great work with a late pass of Gruber to snare third place with
Kyle Gruber in fourth and hard driving Taylor Eccles recovering from a skirmish
early on in the event to drive back through the field to claim a solid fifth
place finish. Kevin Predmore, Tyler Peet, Bobby Flood, Caitlin Henneforth and
newcomer Brody Adamsky completed the top ten finishers.
The closing event of the evening was the 25-lap headliner for the All Star
Slingshot racers and the event proved to be another classic in the annals of
Hamlin Speedway history. First year Hamlin racers Gary Dennis and Joe Howey
brought the 25-car starting field to the starting line for the unfurling of
starter Russ Furry's green flag. Dennis hopped into the lead with Howey nipping
at his heels and Kyle Rode, wasting no time whatsoever, chasing the pair in his
Frank Smith Surveyors sponsored speed buggy. Five laps into the event saw Rode
emerge with the lead as he slipped by Dennis and one later into the event a
caution flew as a remote incident left a few cars disabled including reigning
National Slingshot Champion Shannon Smith and contender Gary Dennis. When the
racing resumed it was "The Hot Rod" at the point with some new challengers
beginning to show their hand and their bumpers as "The Eynon Aggressor" Ben
Whitaker muscled his way into the runner-up slot and set sail for Rode. Tenth
place starting and recent Hamlin 100 winner "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny
Buccafusca found the needed daylight to hustle his way into third place. From
ninth starting place came the 2009 National Slingshot Champion Cody Kline and
Kline used a variety of Hamlin real estate to become a player in the event. "The
Sheriff" Simon Egan found some needed ammunition from 13th starting place and
"The Closer" Mike Fogler was following Egan's gunpowder trail to become a
contender. "The Rocketman" Ryan Wood, back in a Slingshot in a guest appearance,
raced forward from a 17th place start and "The Electric Man" Colin White sizzled
through the field after starting from 22nd position. Mack Brink from 19th, and
Paul Ennes from 21st added to the list of drivers who were able to figure out
the new track surface and emerge as contenders for the win.
Whitaker tried time and time again to dislodge Rode from the point but Rode was
determined and didn't waiver as he kept hitting his marks to continue to lead
the event. Buccafusca began to stick the nose of his race car underneath
Whitaker and made Whitaker play defense for a few laps to hold off the youngster
and it allowed for Rode to catch his breath and drive away for a great win at
the speedway and a great win for the Rode Family race team. Whitaker was solid
in his role as the runner-up and Buccafusca continues to impress everyone with
his talent and winning attitude as the Garden Stater was a Monday night visitor
to the popular and award winning CARQUEST Gasoline Alley TV/Internet show hosted
by Ed and Steve Pados. Cody Kline was smooth as silk in collecting fourth place
money and Simon Egan completed the top five. Mike Fogler, Ryan Wood, Colin
White, Mack Brink and Paul Ennes completed the top ten that showed 21 of the 25
completing all 25-laps of the feature event.
Austin Burke executued "Burke's Law" as he raced his Burke Trucking non-winger
into the lead in the rookie 600 Micro clash and showed his tailfeathers to the
entire field as he nailed his marks lap after lap to gain his second consecutive
win at the speedway. "The J-Shot" Jacob Hendershot stayed with Burke throughout
the event and eighth place starting Eddie Strada continues to impress the local
railbirds at the speedway as the "South Canaan Sensation" has quickly learned
the ropes of the open wheel division with a greta third place run. Simon Egan
donned the revolvers and did double duty and raced hard to a fourth place finish
in the maiden voyage of the S&S Speedways open wheeler. Tim Howell completed the
top five. Sixth through tenth were Larry Mekic, Justin Brewster, Riley Moczulski,
New Hampshire driving talent Luke Greenwood and Empire State wheelman Stephen
Reynolds.
"The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner, fresh off a runner-up performance at the
Accord Speedway on Friday evening at the Accord Speedway in the full sized race
cars, took the lead from his pole start with the one of the hottest drivers in
the country Jeff Hartman nipping at his heels. The pair of dualing racing stars
were on the right on the money as they mirrored each other on the race track
with move after move in searching for the quickest real estate available to
them. Rohner, in only his fourth start in the Phillips racing entry, has adapted
to the new division with ease as led the field through the first 15-laps of the
event. Disaster struck Rohner as the field got into lapped traffic on the
fifteenth lap of the event. Seeking to find a way to keep Hartman behind him
while moving through traffic, Rohner got up over the wheel of a fellow
competitor and was launched across the racetrack with all of the front runners
scrambling and spinning and blocking the race track. Rohner was sent to the back
of the pack for the restart and third place running Jonathan Hull was eliminated
from the event as was the lapped car of Rick Calvert. Hartman now in the lead
and Brett Michalski taking up the chase. The final ten laps were run without
incident as Hartman captured the win and his second of the week after being
victorious at the Kutztown Fairgrounds on Wednesday night. Michalski was the
runner-up with Kyle Lick in third place, Massachusetts traveling man Mick
D'Agostino in fourth and steady Jay Hartman competing the top five. Brian
Gilmore, Shannon Smith in a great driving performance, Austin Burke, Billy Clark
and Brett Arndt completed the top ten.
Scott Avery took the lead at the start of the rookie 270 Micro feature but slide
up the raceway in turn two allowing Hayden Miller to seize the point with
Makenzie Harper challenging. West Hartford, Connecticut hot shoe Grady Johnston
moved past Harper and set sail for the leader Miller. Racing for position on
lap-16, Miller and Johnston touched wheels with Miller losing the handle and
sliding around backwards. On the restart it was Johnston cruising to his first
win at Hamlin with Paul Rimsky scoring a runner-up in best best finish to date,
Miller rallying back to third, newcomer Jenna Wediner in fourth and Harper
completing the top five.
Tommy Kunsman Jr scored his first 2011 win at the speedway and did so in
convincing fashion as he led all laps on his way to an appearance victory lane.
Hard-driving and hard luck campaigner Larry Hoagland finally shook off the
demons that had been hindering his track work at the speedway as he drove to a
solid runner-up finish with Gene Burd in third place, CJ Heinig in fourth and
"The Cadillac Man" Kurt Bettler completing the top five.
The Super Slinger shootout was another classic as the excitement was plentiful
with "Double J" Jimmy Johnston leading the first seven laps before yielding to
the S&S firepower of Dale Kober. Kober was cat-quick as took the lead and
clicked off the fastest times of the night for the division at 14.184 seconds
per lap. Before Kober could get comfortable and go to cruise control a new
challenger arose as Lake Ariel resident Charlie Bodine shook off the ring rust
of a couple of seasons and returned to the racing wars as if he never left as he
chased Kober down in traffic to put in a good solid effort as he chased Kober to
the flag with a runner-up finish. Aaron Henneforth drove his H-4 Property
Management hot rod to a third place finish with hard charging Henry Anderson in
fourth place and Wes Hearn completing the top five. Jimmy Johnston ended up in
sixth place with Tom Arntz, Paul Ennes, Bob Clark and Jerry Hughes completing
the top ten finishers.
POCO-NOTES:
The Smith Family in keeping pace with the great competition at the speedway
added additional clay to the racing surface during the past week and the
concentrated effort paid off in dividends with great racing taking place in all
divisions. The track was extremely racy and the side by side action was
appreciated by another great fan count for the racing activity. Randy Smith took
some needed breaks in the racing action by giving the track surface a much
needed drink of water throughout the evening.
New racers were again in abundance as the Super Slingers had Charlie Bodine,
Zach and Jenna Weidner returned to the 270 Micro ranks as did Kyle Rutledge, who
did double duty when he hopped a ride in the Tom Arntz equipment for a go in the
Slingshot wars. Tony Iudicello, Joseph J Smith and Brett Arndt returned to
action and Hudson, New Hampshire hot shoe made a return to Hamlin and did double
duty in the family owned racers. Dan Beacon made his third appearance of the
season at Hamlin and was impressive as he was steady in second place in the
rookie 600's until mechanical woes forced him to the sidelines. The Beacon racer
is wrenched by Modified talent Joe Eisenhauer who for many seasons was a fixture
at the old Lake Mocatek raceway. Mark Henneforth borrowed his brother's ride to
make a good showing the Slingshot main event in 15th position.
Heat race wins went to Chris Kurtz and Kyle Gruber in the Juniors while Justin
Brewster and Austin Burke claimed wins in the Rookie 600's. All Star Slingshot
heat winners were Gary Dennis, Shannon Smith and Ben Whitaker while Mack Brink
captured the 12-lap B-Main. Scott Avery won the Rookie 270 Micro heat and Austin
Burke, Joseph Smith and Jonathan Hull won the 600 heat events. Super Slinger
heats were won by Aaron Henneforth and Charlie Bodine and the 270 Micro heats

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY- Mel Shrufer-Izes Top Modified Field In Wire To Wire Accord Speedway
Triumph
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Post card picture perfect is perhaps the best description for the grand weather
and the serene setting of the Catskill Mountains in the month of July but as the
wagons circled the pit area of the Accord Speedway the loyal and enthusiastic
fans who fill the grandstand seats had thoughts of high speeds and theatrics in
their minds as they nestled in their seats for the grand show that was about to
unfold. The five regular racing divisions and the return of the RaceSaver CRSA
Sprint Cars gave the pristine and wall to wall racing facility quite a workout
when the final checkered flag fell for Garden State talent Craig Rochelle in his
Wayne Subaru sponsored winged hot rod. Through an exciting evening of side by
side heat racing action that carried through into the feature events, the
quarter mile main stage of the Accord Speedway saw Bloomingburg, New York
modified veteran Mel Schrufer take advantage of a front row start to go on and "Schruferize"
the field and claim the Modified win, Tim Brown capturing the Pure Stock feature
win, Whitey Slavin nipping Kyle Rohner at the line in a photo finish of the Spec
Sportsman main, Anthony Perrego returning to the Sportsman division and winning
the feature in a close battle with Kevin Ward and Rochelle holding off the
advances of teenagers Brittany Tresch and John Virgilo to capture the CRSA main
event. The evening was another great night of racing entertainment sponsored by
Bob and Charlene Flood's All Season Fuel Company located in Montgomery, New
York.
The resurgent Neil "The Wheel" Harris and Mel Schrufer brought the 22-car VP
Fuels/Rhinebeck Ford Modified starting field down for the initial green flag of
the 30-lap headliner and Schrufer quickly cranking up the revs to seize control
of the lead when in turn three Harris slid up in front of Michael Storms and the
two made contact and quickly ending Storm's feature run. On the restart it was
Schrufer on the gas with the hard driving "Iceman" Dom Roselli going topside in
an effort to track him down. As the tight racing action continued it was
Schrufer in control of the point with Roselli staying close to the leader. The
action at midpack was like the storming of the Bastile as everyone was searching
for an opening and the first to break through was the "Rocket" Robbie Green in
his R Brewer Landscaping sponsored mount as he moved in behind Roselli. "The
Statesman" Jerry Higbie, fresh off a convincing runner-up finish at the Sharon
Speedway on Wednesday night, moved the Hutchings Insurance/Shaver Construction
hot rod into contention from twelveth starting spot as the Big Block powered
machine was really digging into the Accord clay. "Iron" Mike Ricci had the
Mastrocola owned chariot on the move from 17th spot as Ricci seemed to find all
avenues of the speedway offering him a welcome mat as he sped his way through
the field. "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti and "DC" Danny Creeden also became
players as they worked their way forward by the halfway mark.
After the midway point of the race it appeared that Schrufer was dropping off a
tick or two in lap time but Roselli was not able to captialize as he too was
slowing down as the race progressed. Mike Ricci disposed of Bachetti, Higbie and
Green to rally into third place and Creeden was able to take the measure of
Higbie with an inside pass off of turn four. "Showtime" Danny Tyler began the
event from 18th starting spot and charged through the field to become a player
with ten laps to go. A Bachetti/Higbie tangle on the 28th lap slowed the field
with Higbie ending his night and when the racing resumed it became a two lap
shootout with Schrufer racing his way into the Lucas Oil Products Winners Circle
with his ifirst win the 2011 racing season. Roselli iced over the field with
great runner-up run and Ricci was spectacular from start to finish to the end up
in third place. Robbie Green continues to impress with another solid performance
in fourth and Danny Creeden was masterful in completing the top five finishers.
The second five consisted of Danny Tyler, Richard Smith, point leader Brett
Hearn, the returning to action Mark Pullen and Mike Sabia from 20th starting
spot in his Big Hick Wood sponsored Big Block hot rod.
The Healey Brothers Spec Sportsman main event proved to be a "Katie Bar The
Door" action packed thrill a second attraction that was settled in the final
couple of inches of Accord clay. The vastly improving Wayne Devantoy led the
first two laps before yielding to the high flying "Hollywood" Whitey Slavin.
Slavin led two laps before losing the lead on a restart to Matt Hitchcock.
Hitchcock was good on the bottom of the speedway but Slavin was better from the
top and with a full head of steam behind him pulled even with Hitchcock in turn
three and regained the lead with a top of the clay move past Hitchcock upon
exiting turn four. The racing action remained tight and ninth place starting
defending track champion "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner began to find the
range with some quality driving off of the bottom of the speedplant. Rohner
moved into third place on lap fifteen and moved pat Hitchcok one lap later.
Slavin was a rocket from the top of the raceway and Rohner was equally as good
from the bottom as they raced for the path to glory. Rohner was able to nose
under Slavin on occasion but Slavin never waivered as the pair drove off of turn
four in search of the checkered flag and it was Slavin grabbing his second win
of the season at Accord by a mere couple of inches in a stellar feature
performance for the Spec Sportsman racers. After the event in the pit area the
pair of driving stars congratulated each other for racing each other clean and
green in he final stages of the feature run. Matt Hitchcock was a close third
with "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson corraling fourth place and Wayne Devantoy hanging
tough to complete the top five. Mike DuBois, John Sundlof, Tyler Dippel, driver
of the week Joe Judge and lady racer Bryanna Hurban completed the top ten.
"The Rebel" Tim Brown utilized a front row start to display his racing prowess
as he led from start to finish stuff to capture the Arkel Motors Pure Stock
feature event in a wire to wire win. The win didn't come easy for Brown as
breathing down his tailpipe for the entire encounter was veteran campaigner John
Woinoski. Woinoski was turning slightly faster times but coudn't find enough of
an open lane to slip by the glued to the top Brown. Brown scored his second win
of the season with Woinoski in the runner-up role and "Smokin" Joe Narok using a
late race charge to garner a third place finish. Mike Deyo ran a steady race to
claim fourth and low-buck racer Gene Helms remained in the hunt to complete the
top five.
The Camper's Barn Sportsman headliner had the "Kingston Kruiser" Greg McCloskey
showing the way for the first three laps until former track champion Jeff
Hulseapple raced the Vitale Motorsports speed buggy into the lead. Hulseapple
led through the midway point of the event until Anthony Perrego found his way
past him and tried to separate himself from the rest of the field. A restart
with seven laps remaining saw point leader and four time winner in 2011 Kevin
Ward come a knocking on doors as he slipped by Hulseapple and set sail for
Perrego. A late caution brought about a two lap shootout and the the leaders
didn't disappoint the large crowd on hand as Perrego and Ward duked it out with
Perrego edging out Ward in another fantastic battle the Accord Speedway is
well-noted for. Hulseapple did great work to claim third place and hard luck
David Coene was fourth after being a contender in the event and getting slowed a
bit after an untimely encounter with the unforgiving front stretch Redil-Rock.
Talented Will Dietz practically stole the show as he used a variety of great
moves to come from 19th starting spot to complete the top five. Greg McCloskey,
Jesse Marks, Joe Giachinta, Kenny Ferrier and Vinny DeCicco completed the top
ten finishers.
The RaceSaver CRSA racing action found 33 winged warriors signing in for the
regional qualifying event. After a series of heats that were won Frank Lieto,
Stephanie Stevens and Mark Sasso and a B-Main that was captured by Modified
wheel twister Luke Monroe, the 24-car starting field was set for the 25-lap
headliner. Craig Rochelle grabbed the lead at the outset and was pressured by
rookie Brittany Tresch and Phil Peworchik. Rochelle was real good from the
bottom of the raceway as he seemingly gave his competitors the opportunity to
attack him from the upper reaches of the raceway. Veteran racer Hank Katz got
upside down on lap three to bring a halt to the action and Mark Sasso backed his
racer into the fence on lap five. Once the racing was able to go green for an
extended length of time the Rochelle and rookie Tresch and John Virgilo raced
away from the field. Just as quickly all eyes in the grandstand became focused
on the show-stopping Jeff Van Steenburg as Van Steenburg slipped back a few
places at the start of the event and now came roaring through the field like a
runaway Santa Fe Railroad train. Van Steenburg, whose father "Stretch" was a
legendary racing figure at the Accord Speedway and many other race tracks in the
Northeast, enjoyed the speedway real estate on the cushion and whether above or
below the cushion quickly raced his way to the front. Van Steenburg grabbed the
lead way from Rochelle easily on lap fourteen coming out of turn four and
quickly separated himself from the field with lap times of 12.6 seconds. Van
Steenburg put a straightway lead on the field in five laps as he kept pouring
the coals to the TTI Luxury MotorCoach winger. On his way to a convincing
victory, suddenly things turned sour for Van Steenburg as he jumped the cushion
in turn one and gave the unforgiving Redi-Rock a hard whacking that sent some
Accord Speedway billboards flying off into the night air and ending the great
run by Van Steenburg. Once the racing resumed it was Rochelle back in front with
Tresch and Virgilo following. Both rookies mounted a challenge but seemed
content to hope for a Rochelle mistake to happen to advance further in the
event. Rochelle never waivered and went to claim the win in his Wayne Subaru
sponsored mount with Tresch and Virgilo following. Brett Jaycox was fourth and
Frank Lieto completed the top five. The second five consisted of John
Cunningham, current point leader and former Modified hot shoe Jamie Christian,
former ARDC Midget racer Stephanie Stevens, former CRSA champion Jeremy Quick
and Billy Jaycox.
MUDPLUGS:
The speedway was kept in great racing condition throughout the evening by Gary
Palmer and staff. Palmer and his staff continue to work their magic on the
speedway grounds throughout the season and the facility is kept squeaky clean
and pristine for the fans to come out and enjoy a great night of racing
activity. The recent addition of some new equipment to handle some of the
maintenance for the speedway has been a godsend for the hard-working Palmer and
he continues to keep the speedway surface smooth throughout the evening of
ground-pounding excitement. A tremendous tip of the fedora goes out to the
Palmer Family for the evening as they added just an extra dollar to the
admission price for the evening to come out and see the extra added show put on
by the traveling RaceSaver CRSA warriors. CRSA head guru thanked the Palmer
Family and Media correspondent Steve Pados for the great show and the added
information the announcing staff at the speedway were able to share with the
fans in regards to the Albany, New York traveling band of racers. The CRSA show
returns to the speedway on September 24th as part of the tremendous King of the
Catskills weekend the Palmer Family has set in place at the speedway. More
information will follow regarding the gigantic weekend of racing activities as a
few details remain to be worked out.
New cars and drivers always seem to arrive at the speedway on a weekly basis and
this week Lem Atkins had his own racer in the field for the evening. Atkins, a
sponsor on the Joe Judge racer, had replaced Judge in the seat after Judge
suffered a broken wrist in job related incident. Atkins run came up short as a
problem with his racer found him against the Redi Rock on lap nine and falling
out of the vent. Steven Kanuk replaced Chris in the family mount and raced to a
seventh place finish in the Pure Stock encounter. Anthony Perrego expired a
motor in his Modified a few weeks ago and returned to the Sportsman division for
the remainder of the 2011 racing season as his Sportsman motor from a season ago
remained in the shop arsenal. Perrego was at the top of his game on his way to
score a victory in the main event.
Modified heats were captured by Mike Storms, Mel Schrufer and Dom Roselli with
the B-main going to Scott Ferrier. Darrell Ford and David Coene won the
Sportsman heats and Guy Harby and Kyle Rohner captured the Spec Sportsman heats.
Dave Demorest and Pat Zimmer were victorious in the Pro Stock heats and Pure
Stock winners were Jerry Craig and Tim Brown. The Pro Stock feature was
postponed and will be added to a future date at the speedway.
In attendance at the speedway was legendary Modified and Sprint car ace Roger
Horvath who enjoyed the close racing action throughout the evening. Three-time
feature event winner in the Legend racing division in 2011, Richie Van Orden was
on hand with his pristine race behind the grandstand area as he gave the fans
the fans the opportunity to see up close and personal the workings of the nifty
little 1200cc racing creations that resemble many of the pre-war body styles
that were used back in the day only now being contructed of fiberglass. The
Palmer Family are dealers for the race cars and should anyone have an interest
in joining the new division at the speedway through the purchase of a new car or
an existing racer in the area should contact the Palmer Family at: 845 626 3478.
Michael Neher won the $50.00 prize from the Pick the Winner program from the
weekly publication of the speedway program "The Accordian" as he was the only
predicter of the Mel Schrufer win at the speedway. Bob and Charlene Flood would
like to thank the Accord Speedway and all of the well wishers at the speedway
for the great night of sponsoring the night of racing at the speedway. Flood
brought one of the All Season Fuel trucks to the speedway grounds and the
beautifully detailed truck found many fans taking a look at it during the
evening. The pride of owenership carries over to the All Season Fuel race cars
as the team has always presented a first class operation for their young driver
Bobby "The Flash" Flood at the Accord and Hamlin Speedway racing facilities
scheduled racing events.

Grant Great at K-C Boss Sprints
Hot Rod Conley Hottest in AMRA Lates
Mather Masters Hobbies/Ervin Earns 4-Cyl Cash
July 16, 2011 Results FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-The first appearance of non-winged sprint cars since 1994 was
a huge success as the new breed of California Kid, 19-year old Justin Grant
garnered the 2nd Annual Gene Comstock Memorial for BOSS sprint cars on the high
banks of Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway. Hot Rod Conley, Wheelersburg,
Ohio bested the potent AMRA Late Model field, Brandon Mather broke Jamey Adams'
win streak in the Hobby Stocks, and Todd Ervin won the first appearance of the
Rear-wheel Drive Four Cylinders. The sprint feature was the first-ever BOSS
event. (K-C's non-winged United States Auto Club event was rained out last year,
making Saturday's non-wing show the first in nearly two decades)
Formerly of Lone, California, the 2010 National USAC Rookie of the Year, who now
calls Piqua, Ohio home, Justin Grant put on one heck of a show in making a clean
sweep and dusting the field in the 25-lap Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series"Gene
Comstock Memorial". The race was held in honor of the late Gene Comstock,
Huntington, WV one of just a few Tri-State racers who were the early pioneers of
the current NASCAR series. Prior to national success, Comstock was on open wheel
ace with several hundred feature wins to his credit.
Grant won his heat, then blitzed off into the sunset with a colorful
barnstorming effort high against the K-C concrete wall. Grant lapped all, but
the top four cars in the masterful flex of power. Although Grant was spectacular
far ahead of his competitors, it was the action back in the pack that also
thrilled the crowd.
Joss Moffett anchored second most of the way as the point man of a torrid dual with Dustin Smith. For 25 laps the duo raced side by side, nose to tail, swapping slide jobs at regular intervals. Moffett got loose in turn one on the 14th circuit and was barely clipped by Smith, sending Moffett--a former Lawrenceburg, IN champion--into a 360.
Moffett kept the car in motion and within a lap was right back battling with Smith for second. Former K-C regular Adam Strausser was fast all night long, winning his heat and anchoring a solid fourth. Meanwhile, a gaggle of cars fought for fifth, swapping position at regular intervals in tight confines of the dangerous open wheel realm. Todd Keen finally zoomed from 9th to fifth ahead of high flyer Aaron Middaugh.
Jason Soudrette earned hard charger honors with a 15th to 7th charge. Keen and Middaugh battled hard for a top five then was joined by Soudrette for a three-way battle. In the same gaggle Landon Simon Michael Fischesser and Josh Slone in Eddie Slone's 4x fought for a top ten.
As Grant's Claxton Engines/DRC Chassis roared to the win, the rest of the top ten filed across the line in this order: Dustin Smith, Joss Moffett, Adam Strausser, Todd Keen, Aaron Middaugh, Jason Soudrette, Landon Simon, Michael Fischesser, and Josh Slone. Other credible efforts were given to Travis Welpott, Mike Weber, Jeb Lowder, Duane Spille, and Ernie Christian, who was an accident victim after running second in his heat.
After a trio of victory 360's, Grant reeled a great deal of enthusiasm from the K-C crowd. Grant, the Ohio transplant said excitedly after a cage stand and salute to the crowd, "I'd like to thank Mark Hery my car owner for this opportunity and thank all of my sponsors. This car was on a rail both tonight and last night. K-C is a nice facility and it's nice to win the first time out here."
The Late Model feature was the typical action-packed, highly competitive bout that K-C fans have come to expect. Athens, OH driver Ralph Withem led the first four laps before hot Rod Conley reeled him in. Next, former champ Jason Montgomery blasted by Withem along with Mike Wilson, allowing Montgomery to challenge Conley for the lead. Montgomery took the lead on lap seven, but a caution for Paul Davis reverted the lead back to Conley. Davis collected fellow Kentucky hot-shoe Ken Howell in the process.
Although it appeared their chances had narrowed, both fought back up through the pack for top ten finishes in some of the best passing laps of the night. First heat winner K-C Burdette suffered a flat tire, ending his night.
A couple laps later, a hard-charging Delmas Conley climbed the wall in turn four. With the right front wheel still up on the wall, Conley backed the car down onto the track, shook it down, said "it's a go" and went to the tail, setting up an exciting charge back to fourth place.
A pile-up that left nowhere to go eliminated top runner Kevin Wagner, who has had a great deal of success at K-C over the last few weeks. Collected in the incident were hard-challengers Dean Boyd, Brian Eaton, Kenny Spencer, and Tony Roush. Only Roush and Spencer were able to continue.
Meanwhile, 10th place starter Audie Swartz, Mark Frazier, and Racin' Jason Perry were on the move and in a battle with second heat winner Billy Gullion. Frazier had a top five all night long, but around the 19th circuit his car began to smoke and he dropped out along with Montgomery.
As Delmas Conley and Paul Davis blasted back toward the front, Rod Conley pulled away from the field with Wilson now in second. Swartz made a late race charge, as he and Wilson swapped positions and slide jobs over the last two laps. It appeared Wilson locked wheels with Swartz coming down to the checkered scattering both cars in different directions a Wilson backward toward the finish line. Withem had a rocket-ship all night and finished strong at third.
Conley crossed for the win followed by Swartz, Ralph Withem, Delmas Conley, Paul Davis, Ken Howell. Tony Roush, Brett Foster, Kenny Spencer, Mike Wilson, and Mark Frazier. Swartz and Tony Roush shared hard charger honors passing eight cars each.
Said Conley, "This racing business is tough. It's tough every night out and everyone is fast anymore. I am glad to bring home the win. Thanks to Conley Trucking and all the guys back at the shop. Sometimes it seems we have to work more on our trucks (Conley Trucking) than the race cars, but that's what makes the racing possible. Thanks to all the fans who came out tonight."
In the Hobby Stock Main, the field fought the law, and...."the law won!" Yes, literally. Brandon Mather, a Chillicothe Police officer, who has been getting smoother and faster every week was the wheel-man that broke a 10 race win streak of Jamey Adams.
Saturday, Mather was also Bounty Hunter as he collected a four-week old Bounty on Adams of $168 in addition to his prize money. The bounty was the idea of the crowd, who proposed upping the bounty $42 each week until someone defeated Adams. The four-week total was $168.
Said an emotional Mather in victory lane, "Wow! I don't know what to say," Then
laughing, Mather said, "I'm glad the track staff told me where to go, I've never
been here before."
Mather added, "Thanks to my crew, engine builder Rick Shoemaker at Central Auto
Parts and everyone else who helped me get here. This is a Jamey Adams Chassis. I
have him to thank, because he's the one that makes us all go fast."
Good racing again took place back in the pack.
Brandon Thompson tried Mather a couple of times, but didn't have the zap he
needed to pull off the win. Thompson did, however, hold off Adams for second
with Tommy Mossbarger in fourth. Bruce Gray, Jr. held down second early in the
race, but despite being fast slipped back to a torrid battle with Mossbarger for
fourth.
On the sixth circuit, young Blake Sheets caught the wall and flipped wildly into
turn number four, scattering parts and his rear-end housing onto the track. The
bad accident scene turned good, when Sheets emerged from the badly damaged car
only shaken.
Racing heated back up with Mather up front and Thompson, Adams, and Mossbarger in tow. Tracey Ross continued his string of solid runs with another good showing, while Butch Eblin staged one of his best finishes of the year with K-C hard-chargers Jack Martin and Tim Cutler close behind.
The finish trickled down in this order: Brandon Mather, Brandon Thompson, Jamey Adams, Tommy Mossbarger, Bruce Gray, Jr., Tracey Ross, Butch Eblin, Jack Martin, Tim Cutler, and Blake Sheets. Keith Dubois (2nd) and Evan Seitz had good heat runs, but suffered mechanical problems.
Todd Ervin took the early lead and never looked back in claiming the first Four Cylinder event of the year at K-C. Derek Davis ran strong all night, but was unable to make the run he needed on the flying Ervin. Ervin said in victory lane, "Thanks to all my friends, my family, and sponsors for helping me out. It really feels good to be able to win here at K-C."
Ervin topped first heat winner James Ball and a stout field of four cylinders to get the win. Rounding out the top ten were Derek Davis, Tom McVey, Kyle Purdy, James Ball, John Smith, Chip Truitt, Adam Haynes, Dustin Hartley, Steve Cruse, Scott Henry, and Zach Ackley.
Next week, July 23 is Vendors Night which features all of K-C's fine sponsors. On the race card are 410 Winged Sprints, Advanced Services Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. In addition to the hefty pay-off the top nine cars in the sprints will win a free Goodyear Racing Tire.

Brian DeFebo Picks up 42nd Mountain Modified Victory
By: Gene Ostrowski
July 16, 2011
St. Johns, PA- Like the old saying goes, “if the shoes fits, wear it” and the
shoe definitely fits Berwick’s Brian DeFebo when it comes to racing at Mountain
Speedway. With his third Modified victory of the season, the tracks most
winningest driver held off Bobby Jones to score his 42nd Mountain Modified
victory. With double points on the line, Steve Shultz of Drums held off Chip
Wanamaker to score his third Street Stock victory of the year and Justin Hughes
of West Pittston scored his second straight FWD victory. Matt Janisch of
Nazareth notched the TQ Midget victory and Bruce Carman of Shaftsbury, VT took
top honors in the Atlantic Coast Old Timers exhibition event.
Allen Creveling started on the pole and led the opening circuit of the 40-lap
Modified main event over Jim Bojohnny, Tommy Wanick III, Todd Baer and Bobby
Jones before the yellow flag waved on lap two when Wanick spun in the second
turn.
Green flag racing resumed and Baer, who had been running third, got by the
leaders and took command of the event. Meanwhile, Brian DeFebo cracked the top
five and got by Creveling for the third position on lap seven. He then proceeded
to take second from Nick Pecko on the following lap. With Jones in tow, DeFebo
snagged the lead from Baer on lap nine and Jones followed through to take
second.
The caution flew on lap 15 when Baer thought that he had cleared Roger
Heffelfinger following a restart. The pair collected in turns one and two and
Creveling slid into the mix. Although the rear of Baer’s car received heavy
cosmetic damage, all of the drivers involved were able to continue.
Green flag racing resumed and just past halfway, DeFebo continued to lead over
Jones, Pecko, Wanick and Ken Vogel, Jr.
Despite several hard runs on the leader during several restarts in the latter
half of the event, DeFebo held off Jones to notch not only his third win of the
season, but also his 42nd Modified victory at the speedway. Jones was forced to
settle for second and Pecko, Vogel and Wanick completed the top five.
Heat race wins went to Tommy Wanick III and Nick Pecko.
With 40-lapsand double points on the line, Chris Burge started from the pole and
was overtaken by Mike Garris, Sr. before a lap was scored in the Street Stock
feature. Burge settled into the second spot with Brian Wozniak, Steve Shultz and
Kyle Curtis in tow.
Shultz took the third spot from Wozniak on the second lap and Chip Wanamaker,
who had just cracked the top five, followed through to take third.
Shultz moved to second when he overtook Burge on lap five and then he dueled
with Garris before taking the top spot two circuits later.
Wanamaker powered by Garris and into the runner up spot on lap 19 before the
yellow flag waved on lap 20 when one driver pulled to the bottom of the
racetrack on the backstretch. Green flag racing resumed and Shultz held the
point over Wanamaker, Garris, Burge and Justin Mooney.
With only one quick caution flag in the latter half of the show, Shultz held off
several pass attempts from Wanamaker to score his third win of the season. Burge
finished in the third spot, followed by Dale Santee and Garris.
Heat race wins went to Steve Shultz and Chip Wanamaker.
Jay Skupski started from the pole in the 20-lap FWD feature and was overtaken by
Pete Verwys in the early going. Verwys led the first circuit, followed by
Skupski, Dylan Hoffman, Trevor Ahouse and Eric Banashefski.
Hoffman climbed to second after a lap one restart but lost the position to
Banashefski during a restart a few laps later. With Verwys still in command on
lap six, Banashefski rode in second, followed by Ahouse, Dan Freundt and
Hoffman.
Justin Hughes quietly worked toward the front and ran in the fifth spot on lap
15 before the yellow flag flew two laps later when Ahouse and Banashefski
tangled as the battled for the second spot in turn one. With nowhere to go,
Freundt got caught up in the incident as well.
The next restart went by the wayside when Ahouse, Frank Hughes and Freundt got
tangled up on the front stretch. Neither Ahouse nor Freundt were able to
continue.
The third lap 17 yellow waved when Verwys spun off of turn two following the
restart. Hoffman was also collected and J. Hughes took the lead. He never looked
back over the closing laps and went on to score his second-straight victory over
Kenny Kleppinger, Banashefski, John Smith and F. Hughes.
Heat race victories went to Dan Freundt and Justin Hughes.
Zach Martini led the TQ Midgets to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap main
and was overtaken by Matt Roselli before a lap was scored. Alison Cumens soared
to second, followed by Matt Janisch and Robin Johnston.
Ryan Tidman cracked the top five on lap five and then Johnston’s day ended when
smoke began to billow from his car on lap 7. Green flag racing resumed with
Roselli out front over A. Cumens, Janisch, Tidman and Ian Cumens.
With a great restart, A. Cumens took the lead and Janisch moved into second a
lap later. The duo battled feverishly until mechanical problems sidelined A.
Cumens on lap 15.
Janisch held the lead following A. Cumens misfortune and Tidman ran second,
followed by I. Cumens, Roselli and Austin Fehr.
Tidman tried high and low over the closing laps and used a lapped car to try to
take the win on the final lap. He fell about a car length short, as Janisch took

DAVID LOWE HOLDS OFF VERNON RUSSELL FOR SUPER PRO
WIN FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/15/11) – It took everything that he had but
David Lowe of Salisbury, Md. was able to edge point leader Vernon Russell of
Dover, Del.to win the Super Pro final Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Joe
Glynn of Queenstown, Md. took the win in Pro and James Farmer of Denton, Md.
rode to the win in Pro Bike. It was brother vs. sister in the Street Eliminator
final with Chelsea Williams of Seaford, Del. taking the win. Other winners
included Harvey Powell of Salisbury, Md in Bike Trophy, Tyler Powell of Delmar,
Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Katelyn Muir of Delmar, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
It was a full body final in Super Pro as David Lowe in his ’01 Firebird faced
Vernon Russell in his ’81 Camaro. Russell set the bar with a .005 reaction light
but Lowe countered with an almost dead-on 8.862/149.95 on an 8.82 dial to take
the win. Russell ran an 8.539/158.28 on an 8.51 dial. Semi-finalist was David
Tucker of Elendale, Del. who lost to Lowe while Russell had the bye run.
Joe Glynn faced Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. in the Pro final. Truitt was
one one-thousandths of a second too early on the start and fouled and Glynn ran
a 10.094/131.54 on a 10.08 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was Robin Lewers of
Delmar, Md. who lost to Glynn.
James Farmer rode up against John Bartkovich of Salisbury, Md. in the Pro Bike
final. Farmer had the better reaction time and rode to the win with a
9.161/135.74 on a 9.12 dial. Bartkovich had a 13.667/93.01 on a 13.64 dial.
Semi-finalists were Ash Hayward of Berlin, Md. who lost to Bartkovich and Chase
Brickhouse of Salisbury who lost to Farmer.
For the second time this season it was brother vs. sister in the Street final as
Chelsea Williams faced her brother Brad Williams. In a reverse of their last
meeting, Chelsea had the better reaction and took the win with an 11.230/116.95
on an 11.19 dial as Brad broke out with a 10.479/129.19 on a 10.49 dial. In Bike
Trophy it was Harvey Powell of Salisbury on his Kawasaki quad posting another
win this time over Troy Mitchell of Salisbury on a ZX 14. Powell had the better
reaction and ran a 16.994/63.73 on a 16.88 dial for the win. Mitchell broke out
with a 10.335/136.40 on a 10.36 dial.
Tyler Powell was paired against Michael Ennis of Delmar in the Jr. Dragster 1
final. Powell was on his dial with an 8.905/73.00 on an 8.90 dial for the win.
Ennis had a good run at 8.978/71.18 on an 8.94 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was
Katelyn Muir up against Herby Sullivan of Ridgely, Md. It was a very close run
with Muir having a .074 reaction and taking the victory with a 7.929/82.57 on a
7.90 dial. Sullivan had a .094 light and ran a 7.923/82.16 on a 7.91 dial.

Skyline Speedway Results FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
McGuire McQuick at Shutts Memorial
Duncan Doubles, Holcomb Hammers Mods, Fritter First in Mod Lites
Gillian Gains Mini Win
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO- It was a solemn, yet fitting tribute to a veteran racing
personality. From the Four-wide parade lap tribute from the Mini-Wedges, to the
last checkered flag, a fast, furious evening of racing saw Grayson, Kentucky
invader Josh McGuire and the remainder of the 91 cars in attendance pay respects
in the third annual Jack Shutts Memorial at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway. A
large crowd saw McGuire bring home the 40-lap Late Model main, Groveport, Ohio's
Cole Duncan claimed the OVSCA sprint main, Matt Holcomb claimed the AMRA
Modified main and Tracey Fritter won the Mod-Lite main. High flying Jason
Gillian won the Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedge Feature.
Said AMRA LM winner Josh McGuire, "Thanks to Poskes Performance Parts, Hoosier
Tire, GCP Race Engines and Mastersbuilt Chassis along with my crew and family.
The key tonight was getting to the front and then getting low and just holding
on. These Hoosier tires worked great! We've had a good deal of success here and
it was good to be able to put on a show for the fans and the Shutts family."
Hot Rod Conley took the early lead from the outside pole and over the first two
circuits built up a comfortable lead. Pole-sitter Jason Montgomery then fell
into a groove and began to reel in the leader. Over the next 14-circuits, fans
watched in awe as Montgomery pulled in beside Conley and Chris Garnes and
McGuire filed in behind for what appeared to be the start of a fast car dash.
Two-wide, two-deep the four heroes battled diligently, sometimes with Montgomery
nosing ahead, and then dropping briefly back to third in the high-speed tango.
On lap six Montgomery officially became the leader and led until lap 16 with
McGuire riding side-saddle the entire route. On the 16th circuit Montgomery
drifted wide out of four and McGuire nosed in to lead by feet at the start
finish line.
A lap later Montgomery had retaken the lead, but a spin brought out a caution,
thus reverting back a lap with McGuire on the point. Montgomery challenged for
several laps, but once McGuire’s mount took ahold of the rubber-clad surface, he
was off to victory.
Fast-timer Chris Garnes, who earned a pair of tires for the feat, came on strong
late in the race to finish third, shuffling Garnes to fourth and Conley to
fifth. Only one caution marred the 40-lap event. Rounding out the top ten were
defending Harvest 50 winner Zach Dohm, Tyler Carpenter, Ricky Williams, Freddie
Carpenter, and Andy Bond. Young Tyler Carpenter was the winner of a group of
close runners, finally winning a dual with Williams, while Freddie Carpenter
earned hard-charger honors coming from 18th to 9th. Ralph Withem also had a good
run to 11th.
If the first few laps of the Late Model feature wasn't enough to fill the
competitive appetite of the fans, the 410 Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association
feature was. For 25 laps it was anyone's race. Pole-sitter Cole Duncan took the
initial lead over outside point-man, veteran Dave Dickson. Jimmy Stinson, the
defending Skyline/OVSCA champ, worked high around Dickson while Josh Davis
challenged low.
That was about all the breathing room Duncan had. To lap 17 Duncan and Stinson
went nose-to-tail, wheel-to-wheel until finally Stinson moved high against the
thin cushion to make the leading pass on lap 18. Now in reverse order with
Duncan in the catbird seat, Stinson charged toward victory with Duncan dogging
him every inch of the way. Coming around for lap 23 Duncan nosed under Stinson
in turn three, then pulled him down the chute to retake the lead.
Stinson tried to ride some momentum off the high side, but fell a car short at
the finish.
Said Cole Duncan. "Actually it was better to be in second when I was. I could
see where I needed to be and kept Jimmy guessing where I was. It also helped to
be able to catch Jimmy in lapped traffic. Thanks to Maxim Chassis, Dad, my
family and Factory Kahne Shocks. The car really worked great all night long."
Rounding out the top ten behind Stinson were Josh Davis, Dave Dickson, Aaron
Higgins, Andre Layfield, Chris Myers, Wayne McPeek, Benny Hickel, and Eddie
Slone. Aaron Higgins was the hard-charger of the race.
The AMRA Modified main had a season's worth of action back in the pack, but up
front defending Road Warrior Champion Matt Holcomb was on a rail and heading
toward victory lane. Holcomb, the Greg Schilling Memorial winner, proved that
win was the real deal in driving off into the sunset over a field of
heavy-hitters of the modified division.
Draping a cool towel across his neck to put out the fire of a heavy second place
battle, Rick Venham, Jr. was all smiles after winning a race-long battle with
Andy Bond. Bond tried everything imaginable often drifting by Venham on the turn
entry, only to scrape off speed in drifting back to third. Venham persevered for
second, but never got the late-race caution he needed to make a bid at Holcomb.
Rounding out the top ten were Jeremy Blake, Robert Garnes, Doug Henry, Roy
Roush, J.P. Roberts, Mark Luning, and Vince Conrad. Luning held fourth much of
the race in a gaggle of cars that saw 5-to-6 cars battling for a top five. Kenny
Johnson, driving hard but suffering a bit, perhaps from a heat race altercation
was shuffled out of the top ten-- a rare experience on the AMRA trail.
Luning in-turn fell victim in the battle and the Skyline shuffle, as Jeremy
Blake worked his way through the front-runners to fourth, Robert Garnes held a
consistent fifth and Henry, R. Roush, and Roberts marched up through the field.
Roy Roush was the hard-charger in a 17th to 7th run.
R.D. Jones, Charleston, WV saw Tracey Fritter's back bumper up-close and
personal much of the 15-lap Mod Lite main. Jones tried high, tried low and a
combination of the two to make a bid a Fritter, but Fritter's momentum prevailed
as he raced to his second Skyline win of the season. Jones was second followed
by Brandon Fluharty, Tyler Riggs, Nathan Casto, Mike Herrington, Troy Collins,
Ray Heskett, Brian Herrington, and David Elmore.
Jason Gillian claimed the exciting Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedge main over
Mini-mainstay Cole Mayle. Behind the winning Gillian in the mini-33 Auto Parts
car were Mayle, Coleton Perine, Corey DeLancey, Zach Carr, Skylar Zimmerman,
Samantha Roush, Kasey Rankin, and Curstin Giffin.
Kids Bicycle racing highlighted the intermission with 25 kids participating.
Additionally, C&S Racing Photo, Poske's Performance Parts, the OVSCA, and Eddie
Miller Racing donated five bicycles to children in attendance, making a fun
evening for all family and friends.
Next week Skyline hosts the AMRA Late Models, AMRA Modifieds, OVSCA 410 Sprint
Cars, and Semi-Late Crate Late Models under an open tire rule. For more

410 SPRINT CARS RETURNING TO NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY TUESAY, AUGUST 30
NEW EGYPT, NJ - Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
And 410 Sprint Car racing is returning to New Egypt Speedway. Steve Kinser is
the last 410 Sprint Car race winner at NES. He captured a World of Outlaws
sanctioned race on May 20, 2007.A total of only six different 410 Sprint Car
events have been held at the track.
Donny Schatz won in 2001 and 2003, while PJ Chesson won a highly- celebrated
event in 2002. Tyler Walker and Billy Pauch won unsanctioned shows there in 2000
and 1999, respectively.
There is a strong interest in having the 410 Sprint Cars return to New Egypt
Speedway, said event co-promoter Bob Miller. "We've heard it from the fans,
competitors and I know that every time New Egypt Speedway has URC, fans turn out
en masse."
The 410 Sprint Car-headlined event, which will have Modifieds as a support
division, is set for Tuesday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. A rain date of Wednesday,
August, 31, will be used, if necessary. "The winged 410 powered Sprint Cars are
the fastest cars ever to tour the track," said Len Sammons who along with his
two sons is assisting in the race promotion. For pure speed this event will be a
thriller the fans will not forget.
Although there is no pre-entry fee, drivers are asked to file a pre- entry blank
for the event by August 12. Entries can be filed by calling 443-513-4456.
A $1,000 bonus will be paid to the highest-finishing pre-entered driver. Also,
drivers who fail to qualify for the 30-lap main event will receive $100 in tow
money as long as there is a pre-entry filed. News of the event has spread
quickly. Lance Dewease, Tyler Walker, Rick Lafferty, Ryan Taylor and of course
Davey Sammons have already thrown their support to the race.
The standard purse will include $4000 for the winner, with $2000 going to the
runner-up, $1600 to third, $1500 to fourth and $1400 to fifth. The balance of

lap feature event. The top six drivers from each heat event qualify for the
A-Main with the top two redrawing for a feature spot along with the top two from
time trials that qualify, but fail to make the top two.
Rules applying to weight, tires and wing are the same as used by the recently
completed Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed Week. The event is open to any 410 Sprint
Car, 360 Sprint Car and358 Sprint Car, but 305 Sprint Cars are not permitted to
enter the event. Pit fee is $35, while grandstand admission will carry a $30 fee
for adults. Children 6-11 is $10.
There will be a fan meet-and-greet from 5-6 p.m.. Fans may enter the Sprint Car
pit area from the Victory Lane area. Modifieds will compete in a $3000 to win
race. Driver will draw for heat event starting spots with the top four
qualifiers from each heat event redrawing for a feature event starting spot.

compound and the right rear being a 48 compound.Pit gates will open at 4 p.m.
with grandstands opening at 5. Warm-ups are set to begin at 6:45 with qualifying

"Ever since we started talking about this, there's been a buzz about it," Miller
said. "We can't wait for it to happen. It's a positive for the whole industry to

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY - Chris Kurtz, Robbie Hocker, Carly Dippel, Walt Henry And Jim Black
Share Accord Speedway Glory In Midweek Madness Racing Action
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
What began as a beautiful summer day in the Catskills Mountains suddenly turned
ugly as a black cloud quickly covered the Ulster County playground the Accord
Speedway and suddenly unleashed a 25-minute torrent of hard driving rain onto
the speedway grounds. All of the hard work of meticulously preparing the
speedway for duty by Gary Palmer might have gone down the drain right then and
there but Palmer was quick to combat the problem facing him as he quickly went
to work with an Army of packer vehicles and the assistance of the very
supportive Four Cylinder Division race cars to squish away the heavy moisture
that fell on the raceway. What could have been a cancellation became a fabulous
show as even though starting late, the small division racing program was
completed at 10:29. Accord Speedway promoters Gary and Donna Palmer continue to
fight the whims of Mother Nature as three of the past four Fridays have fallen
to weather problems. The event sets the stage for the upcoming Friday night
action as the Palmer Family hopes to get back on track at the speedway with the
five regular divisions back in action and headed up by the VP Fuels/Rhinebeck
Ford Modified Division going to war for the $2,000.00 payday on the line for the
victor. The evening of events will also see the return of the RaceSaver 305 CRSA
Sprint Cars for the first time since 2009 and the event will serve as a
qualifier for the Albany based sprint car group. Friday night's racing action
will be sponsored by Bobby Flood's All-Season Fuel Company.
After a tremendous series of heat racing action that saw reigning National
Junior Slingshot Champion Tyler Dippel barrrel roll his Tycar Trencheless
Technologies hot rod along the front stretch Redi-Rock International concrete
barriers in a spectacular wreck that saw Dippel emerge unscathed from the
carnage, a tribute to race car builder Rich Tobias who was on hand for the
Empire Series event, the feature events got underway. Dipple would later return
to action during the evening as a back-up car was hastened to the speedway for
him. Kenny Phillips captured a win in the 0-50 Quad feature over Trevor Tufano.
The 51-90 Quad feature was once again "The Little Torch" Melissa Torchio show as
she won for the fifth straight week of racing.
Chad Cooper in the Kart Lites and Gary Huston in the Kart Heavy division were
winners of the Kart events. Drew Evanke captured the first quad event over his
hard pressing teamate Brandon Gates with newcomer Jeff Jados and Kevin Kelly
following. Richard Jarvis captured the nitecap in a very close win over Brandon
Gates with Robert Greznecki finishing up in third place. Keystone stater Jim
Black continued his success at the speedway as he raced to his fifth consecutive
win at the speedway in a very hard fought battle over the vastly improving "The
Communicator" Matthew Gaughan who was a very close second in the event and
Vermont warrior Dustin Black was third.
Slingshot racing action was once again the highlight of the evening as a great
field of driving stars were on hand for the evening. The "Warwick Warrior"
Robbie Hocker and defending track champion Jimmy Babb kicked off the main event
for the All-Star Slingshots and it was Hocker in his Warwick Auot Body Shop hot
rod seizing the lead after a two lap battle royal with Babb for the the point.
Quick on the scene was Lebanon, Pennsylvania hot shoe Justin Thompson in his
Slinger Warehouse mount and the invader moved into second with Babb dropping to
third and then fourth as "The Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby came knocking on the door.
Leiby hustled his way past Babb for third and eased his way past Thompson by
taking his ride upstairs on the cushion and driving into the runner-up slot.
Behind the three leaders the cars were sweppping positions back and forth as the
racy little creations could go as many as six-wide on the great Accord layout.
As the laps clicked off, Leiby took a few stabs at maneuvering his way past
Hocker, but Hocker refused to yield to the young driving sensation and it was
Robbie Hocker crossing under start Buck Dunning's checkered flag to claim the
win in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Circle. Jesse Leiby wa the runner-up in a
great run with the new kid on the block Thompson in third place, Tyler Pirone
using a late charge to claim fourth place and Jimmy Babb completing the top
five. Jim Pollard, who has been missiing in action the past couple of years is
back in the seat again and finished sixth in his return to action in his sharp
looking Dunkin Donuts sponsored racer. Tyler Dippel shook off the effects of his
exciting ride in the heat action to return adn drive to a seventh place finish
in the main event in a great display of guts and courage. Will Eastman was
eighth in the final rundown. The Empire event brought out many newcomers to the
track with Florida resident CR Hill taking his first laps around the speedway
and Justin Haas made the trip down from Albany, New York as he dusted off the
Slingshot and put in a great performace at the speedway until a problem late in
race placed him on the sidelines. Lydia Rueckheim continues to impress in her
Rueckheim Heating sponsored Slinger as she raced with the leaders throughout the
evening. Last week's feature winner Cody Clark had an off night but the young
talent from Little Falls, New York is working on a win streak at his home based
track at Caroga Creek. Thirteen Slingers were on hand for the racing action,
Rookie Slingshot action found Carly Velez steering one of the Advanced Concrete
sponsored Slinger to the point at the start of the Rookie Slingshot feature
event and then hold off a late charge by Carly Dippel and second generation hot
foot Matthew Shultz to score her first win at the Accord Speedway facility.
"The Tornado" Tyler Johnston and "The Midget" Chris Kurtz found the front row to
their liking after the dual heat series of events with Johnston grabbing the
early lead with Kurtz right behind him as they immediately raced away from the
13-car field. Rather than play a waiting game, Kurtz went right to the attack
with a deft topside purchase of real estate that saw him go side by side racing
with Johnston before securing the point one lap later. Once in front Kurtz was
dead on the money with his set-up as he didn't miss a beat and stretched out the
lead in his CK Transportation/S&S Speedways hot rod to go on and claim the
popular win for the nine year old young gun. Johnston was in the runner-up role
with a great run in his Tri-State Roofing/Shawn's Auto Repair sponsored speed
buggy. Newcomer Joe Krum raced to third place in his very appearance at the
speedway but his finish was short-lived as a post-race infraction saw him DQ'ed
from the event, The change in position brought "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel into a
third place finish and Jared Labagh grabbed up fourth place. Thirteen Junior
Slingshots took the green flag for the feature start.
Junior Four Cylinder excitement found Tammy Ward winning the Junior Dual
Overhead Cam event and newcomer Sean Michaels winning Single Overhead Cam
portion with John Davis and Tisha Curry following. Alan Houghtaling captured the
senior portion of the Dual Overhead Cam feature. Walt Henry wasted no time in
securing the lead in the Four Cylinder Senior finale as he battled with Steve
Schmitz for a couple of laps before taking over the lead for good and going on
to record a great win over Schmitz with Dan Curry in third place, Robert Beach
in fourth and Sarah Bohlin completing the top five in an exciting main event and
conclusion to a great night of racing at the speedway.
Midweek Madness will continue from July 20th until August 31st every Wednesday
evening. Gates open at the speedway at 5 PM with Hot Laps scheduled for 6:45.
Racing is to start at 7:15 PM. Admission for the Wednesday shows is just $5.00
and the great concession stand is open throughout the racing card.
Friday night racing at Accord runs from April through September with six great
divisions going to war on the Accord high banks. This week Bobby Flood's All
Season Fuels will serve as the headline sponsor for the evening events and will
feature the five regular divisions at the speedway plus the return of the
RaceSaver 305 CRSA Sprint Division. Special Event ticket prices are in place on
this evening. Admission for the great racing action remains the same from a
season ago as Adults (12+) will be $12.00; Children (11 and under) will be
$3.00. The Family Value Pack that was met with much success last season is once
again offered and is: 2 Adults, 2 Children, and $20.00 in food vouchers for
$40.00, a savings of $10.00 to the consumer. Pit Gates open at the speedway at
4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5. Hot laps kick off at 6:30 and the racing is
slated to start at 7 PM.
Big offerings are in store for the racing fans in the upcoming weeks at the
speedway. July 15th will find the RaceSaver 305 CRSA Sprint Cars making a return
to the Ulster County high banks. Led by local driving aces, Middletown, New
York's Brittany Tresch, the brother-sister act of Billy and Emily Van Inwegen
from Port Jervis, New York; Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania hot shoe Tommy Martocci,
and Matamoras, Pennsylvania talent John Matrafailo, the series now is headed up
by former driver Mike Van Dusen. Jamie Christian is the current leader in points
in the series over Chad King, Brett Jaycox, rookie John Virgilio, John
Cunningham and Billy Jaycox Jr. The 2010 Modified Rookie of the Year at the
speedway "The Quack Attack" Geoff Quackenbush is preparing his sprint car for
the upcoming show.

Mike Marlar Set for Triple Header Weekend
Winfield, Tennessee (07/14/11) – Mike Marlar is preparing for a weekend that
will see him take #1g Andy Stebbins Motorsports/Warrior House Car/Custom Racing
Engine Super Late Model into battle in a trio of events in Georgia and Kentucky.
Last weekend, July 8th-9th, the team made the trek to Magnolia Motor Speedway
(Columbus, Mississippi) for the annual Clash at the Mag, which was headlined by
a $20,000 to win event was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
Fifty-seven Super Late Models entered the program, and things would start rough
for Marlar on Friday night as struggles in time trials left him starting sixth
on the grid for his heat race. Despite being mired deep in the field, Marlar
would mount a great charge in his heat race to overtake race long leader, Billy
Moyer Jr., late in the going to claim the race to claim the win. Via his heat
race win, Mike earned the sixth starting spot for Saturday night's, 100 lap
finale.
Saturday night would prove to be a long and wet night for fans and racers as
late evening rains delayed the start of the program. Festivities would finally
get underway about 11:30pm as the feature rolled onto a heavy, tacky track. Mike
battled at the front of the field for the first 26 laps before fuel pressure
issues caused him to roll to a stop. After several laps in the pits, Mike would
briefly return to the racing surface to see if the issues were resolved, and to
gain a few spots from other competitors, who retired. He would ultimately be
credited with a 16th place finish. For the full results, please visit
www.LucasDirt.com.
For the upcoming weekend Mike has decided to bypass the LOLMDS events to enter
three other events. The weekend will open on Thursday, July 14th at North
Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) with a $5,300 to win, Southern Nationals
event at the 1/3 mile oval. For more information on the event, please visit
www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com
and www.NorthGaSpeedway.net .
Friday night will find the Winfield Warrior pitted at Lake Cumberland Speedway (
, Kentucky) for a $4,000 to win, unsanctioned event. The Mulligan Plumbing 50
will pilot many of the region's top drivers against one another in a 50 lap
event. For more information on the event, please visit
www.LCSpeedway.net.
The weekend will conclude on Saturday night at Richmond Raceway (Richmond,
Kentucky) with the 24th Annual Paul Butterball Woolridge Memorial. The 50 lap,
unsanctioned event will pay $7,500 to win/$500 to start. For more information,

THE BATTLE AT LINCOLN
July 13, 2011
MACH 1 Chassis, Pioneer Pole Building, NAPA Auto Parts present. . . . . .
THE BATTLE AT LINCOLN. . . . .
THOUSANDS CIRCLE THE BATTLEFIELD. . . . RYAN GODOWN & AARON OTT REMAIN STANDING
AFTER IT ALL
Abbottstown, PA . . . . . .Thousands circled the battlefield, and at the end of
"The Battle of Lincoln", it was Ryan Godown winning the Pioneer Pole Building
Race of Champions 60 lap feature as Aaron Ott took the win in the 25 lap MACH 1
358/360 Sprint Challenge. Presented by NAPA Auto Parts, the Lincoln Speedway was
buzzing with excitement as the modifieds returned to the historic red clay in
the "pigeon hills" for the first time in twenty-five years. It was also the
first time the modifieds and sprints teamed up in a double-header at Lincoln.
The big crowd was treated to a well run show that started on time, was completed
well before 11 PM and delivered an outstanding track surface prepared by Fred
Putney. The Battle at Lincoln could very well become an annual event. The event
was co-promoted by Bob Miller and Ray Herold.
In the PPB Race of Champions feature event, Billy Decker established himself as
the man to beat. Starting on the pole, Decker studied and figured out the
Lincoln Speedway to set a blistering pace from the drop of the green flag. Duane
Howard and Jeff Strunk where hot in the case with Matt Sheppard just off the
pace. Billy Pauch Jr moved into third on lap six and began to reel in the
leaders.
With ten laps in the books, Decker, Howard, Pauch Jr. , Ryan Godown and Craig
VonDohren made up the top five. One lap later, Godown moved into third and set
his sights on Decker and Howard. Craig VonDohren moved into the picture,
cracking the top five and now battling Pauch.
Taking a look at the leaders, Duane Howard offered Billy Decker the first
serious threat on lap twenty-three. With the leading approaching lapped traffic,
a battle for the lead was forming. Then on lap twenty-five, the yellow was
displayed for Brett Hearn who broke. On the restart, Howard again began his
challenge against Decker with Ryan Godown third, VonDohren fourth and Pauch Jr.
fifth.
Danny Johnson, after starting seventeenth was on a mission and advanced to fifth
on lap thirty. As the race wore on, lapped cars were going to be a challenge for
the leaders. On lap forty, Howard caught Decker and this battle was definitely
under way. The battle for the lead continued until a big change of events took
place. Exiting turn two on lap forty-six, race leader Billy Decker tagged a
lapped car with Howard making hard contact with Decker. Howard and Decker locked
bumpers and the yellow was displayed with Decker turned around on the
backstretch. Ryan Godown inherited the lead at that point with Craig VonDohren
in second.
On the restart, Godown set the pace followed by VonDohren, Danny Johnson, Matt
Sheppard and Stewart Friesen.
For the final ten laps Godown had the lead covered as the final caution of the
race was displayed on lap fifty-three for Colt Harris.
The last green flag of the race fell and Godown led the field into turn one.
Second place runner Craig VonDohren drifted high in turn one opening the door
for Danny Johnson to move into second. Matt Sheppard slipped through the opening
to take third.
As the final laps ticked off, there were no challenges left to offer Godown and
took the win and the $5,000 pay check. Danny Johnson finished second and earned
an additional $300 as the Hard Charger. Making up the top five were Matt
Sheppard, Stewart Friesen and Pat Ward.
In the MACH 1 358/360 Sprint Challenge the feature was a thriller. URC seven
time Champion Curt Michael was the pole sitter with Lance Dewease on the outside
front row. At the drop of the green flag, Dewease took the lead with Michael in
the chase and Pat Cannon in third. On lap ten, Curt Michael powered-up the
Valley Forge INC 5G and challenged Dewease for the lead. Lapped traffic was
making the race interesting and third place runner Pat Cannon was now on the
leaders.
On lap twelve, Dewease, Michael and Cannon were racing under a blanket for the
lead. The caution was displayed on lap thirteen for Mike Bittinger who spun.
When green flag racing resumed, Dewease set the pace with Cannon now challenging
for the lead was Curt Michael now in a battle with Aaron Ott. Dewease and Cannon
were again in a side-by-side fight on lap sixteen.
One lap later, Aaron Ott passed Curt Michael for third and set his sights on the
leaders.
With just five laps remaining, Dewease, Cannon and Ott were in a pack all
looking for the lead. Ott slipped by Cannon for second on lap twenty-two.
Dewease led the next lap with Ott close in the chase. With the white flag
waiving, Ott took the lead but Dewease set-up one more run for the win. Ott kept
the high groove as Dewease tried the bottom line off of turn four.
Ott took the win with Dewease second, Pat Cannon third, Logan Schurhart fourth
and Curt Michael.

Special Note: A sincere thank you goes out to staff and management of the
Lincoln Speedway for allowing Ray Herold and I to bring the modifieds back to
Lincoln. We appreciate the large turnout of race fans and a special thank for
the quality field of modifieds. This event was a big win in the fact that we
brought the modifieds and sprints together at a track in the heart of sprint car
country. We sold out of programs and have only six, Battle At Lincoln t-shirts
remaining. The sponsorship support from MACH 1 Chassis/Brian Scandle,, Bob
Greene of Pioneer Pole Buildings, NAPA Auto Parts and Lawrence Chevrolet/Gary
Lawrence was greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for making this event a huge
success.

Hamlin, PA - Greth, Dippel, Burd, Martin, Hearn, Burke, And Avery Share Hamlin
Speedway Gold In Great Night Of Racing Action
by: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
After many race tracks fell victim to Mother Nature on Friday evening, the heavy
storms blew out of the area and Saturday brought on some beautiful warm summer
weather with gentle blowing breezes into the Pocono Mountains. Hamlin Speedway
Promoters Denise and Randy Smith welcomed in the great weather, a large crowd
and 131 eager racers to the speedway grounds to produce another fabulous racing
card. When the racing was completed, seven talented performers hit the speedway
jackpot with New Cumberland, Pennsylvania hot shoe Ryan Greth leading the way in
a wire to wire triumph in the Mid-Summer Spectacular 40-lap event for the
Wingless 600 Micros to the tune of a $1,000.00 payday for he and car owner Wayne
Lesher. Tyler Dippel in the All Star Slingshots, Wes Hearn in the Super
Slingers, Dylan Martin in the Junior Slingshots, Austin Burke in the Rookie
Wingless 600's, Gene Burd in the 270 Micros, and Scott Avery in the Rookie 270
Micros all added notches to their gunbelts in the tremendous show that had the
great crowd on hand heading home by 10:30. The seven feature program hustled
through the evening on a smooth racing surface and was sponsored for the evening
by Tilcon, Dickie Keiper Racing Supplies and Walker Plumbing and Heating.
After a series of hotly contested heat events, time trials and B-Mains, the
first of the seven feature events rolled onto the raceway for the stars of
tomorrow in the Junior Slingshot division. Seventeen young men and ladies
started the twenty lap excursion and pole sitting Caitlin Henneforth gunned her
H-4 Property Management sponsored car into the lead at the drop of the green
flag. Leading into turn one, the throttle on her race car stuck wide open and
Henneforth did an admirable job of hanging on to the race car as she slid up the
raceway and out of contention. The turn of events opened the door for "Thrillin"
Dylan Martin and the youngster from Stroudsburg seized the opportunity to drive
his Mark Gray Automotive sponsored hot rod into the lead with Kyle Gruber
following closely behind. Thomas Strupp was quick to join the front pair of
racers as the action heated up behind the leaders. Martin set the pace and
opened up a seven car length lead on the field that was slowed at mid-point by
the spinning Empire State racer Evan Van Valkenburg.. When the event restarted
Martin was still at the point with Strupp now in second, Gruber third, Chris
Kurtz in fourth and Mohnton racer "The Weasel" Jacob Dunn turning the fastest
laps on the track to move into contention. Dunn was relentless from the top of
the raceway as he drove past his foes to begin to close in on Martin. Lapped
traffic slowed Martin in the final few laps and Dunn clicked off the best laps
of the evening and made a couple of attempts to wrest the lead away from Martin.
After taking the white flag, Martin held off Dunn in turn two but a lapped car
caused Martin to check up as the pair raced into turn three side by side.
Maertin dove to the bottom of the slower car and got a better run off of turn
four to score his fourth win of the season at the Hamlin oval. Dunn was
spectacular in a runner-up role with "The Little Tornado" Zack Weisenfluh using
a late flurry to corral a third place finish. Thomas Strupp was fourth and Kyle
Gruber was fifth in the final rundwon with Chris Kurtz, Allison Kaminski, Kevin
Predmore, newcomer Brody Adamsky and last week's winner Bobby Flood completing
the top ten.
West Hartford, Connecticut's Grady Johnston took off at the drop of the green
flag in the run for the Rookie 270 main event and seemingly was in control of
the event net as he maintained a six car length lead at the midway point of the
event. Just as Johnston was putting a lap on newcomer Josh Schaffer, the pair
got together and Johnston went up in the air but remained in the lead although
it appeared there was some damage on the race car. As the laps wound down
Johnston was cautious and possibly too cautious as runner-up Scott Avery closed
in behind him. In the final two turns disaster struck Johnston as he became
tangled with a slower car and the quickly approaching Avery used the clear
portion of the race track to drive by and score the win over the heartbroken
Johnston. Cheyanne Schaffer was third with Hayden Miller rallying back for
fourth and newcomer Doug Evanuski completing the top five.
The Rookie 600 Micro main event saw Justin Brewster charge out front with the
lead and Austin Burke and Jacob Hendershot in quick pursuit. Brewster's lead was
short-lived after three laps as he lost the handle in turn three and turned his
racer around. On the restart it was Burke on the hammer out front with
Hendershot, Eddie Strada and Empire State driving talent Stephen Reynolds now
applying the pressure. The racing was heating up as Hendershot spun out before
the midway point and was forced to make a comeback from the rear of the field.
Burke was still in command with "The South Canaan Sensation" Strada in his third
event in the 600's applying heavy pressure to the high-flying Burke. With a few
laps remaining, Reynolds saw his great drive go away when he was turned around
in turn two. On the restart Burke and Strada put on a great show for the fans
with Burke scoring the win with Strada in second, "The Harmony Heat" Greg
Stevens in third, Larry Mekic in fourth and "The J-Shot" Jacob Hendershot
rallying back to compete the top five.
The Super Slinger feature proved once again to be the Wes Hearn Show as the
Greentown, Pennsylvania hot shoe drove away from the field at the drop of the
green flag and led all laps to capture his second consecutive feature event win
at the speedway. Paul Ennes kept pace with Hearn but settled for second with
Dale Kober racing through the field from eleventh starting spot to grab third
place. Aaron Henneforth was solid throughout the event to finish fourth and "The
Harmony Hurricane" Roger Collins rallied back from an early spin to complete the
top five. Henry Anderson, Jerry Hughes, newcomer Jim Conroy, Jimmy Johnston and
PJ Dempsey rounded out the top ten finishers.
"The Machine" Gene Burd, the defending champion of the division at the speedway,
hopped into one of the Widdos entries for the evening and took off like a shot
out of a cannon from his third place start to seize the lead before the field
hit turn one. Once in front, Burd carved out a big lead into the halfway point
of the event. Matt Mountz pulled up lame on lap fourteen and on the restart it
was Burd out front with "The Aviator" Robbie Watson hustling his mount in behind
Burd. Burd did not waiver as he sped to the win with Watson in second place,
Kurt Bettler in third, Tommy Kunsman fourth, Richie O'Neill in fifth and Shannon
Smith doing triple duty in the second Widdos car with a sixth place finish.
The headliner for the All Star Slingshots saw 24 of the best Slingshot drivers
in the country duke it out on the Hamlin Speedway real estate. The early going
found "Speed Racer" Hunter Smith grabbing the lead at the start of the event
from his pole start. Smith was solid for the first four laps but slid up the
racecourse in turn two to allow the current National Junior Slingshot Champion
Tyler Dippel to take over the point. Troy Langendoerfer slipped by Smith one lap
later to take up the chase after Dippel and it appeared as though the Smith
racer was now experiencing some handling problems. "The Electric Man" Colin
White joined in the chase along with Robbie Hocker and by the mid-point of the
event it was "Chargin" Charlie Lawrence making lots of noise from his twelfth
place start. All eyes were on Lawrence as the Empire Region Slingshot Champion
was masterful in his climb into contention. One by one Lawrence was able to move
past those in front of him as he took over the runner-up role and set sail after
Dippel. A 19th lap restart bunched the field together and set the stage for a
six lap shootout between the leaders. Dipple maintained his composure as he
fought off all of the advances from Lawrencehe as he held on to score his first
win in regular Slingshot competition at the speedway. Lawrence scored his second
straight runner-up finish with Troy Langendoerfer in third place, Colin White in
fourth and Robbie Hocker completiing the top five. Shannon Smith headed up
second five with John Rooks Jr, Dale Kober from seventeenth, Danny Buccafusca
and Simon Egan completing the top ten.
The Mid Summer 600 Wingless 40-lap main event proved to be the Ryan Greth show
as the Central Pennsylvania driving talent earned a front row starting spot with
a win in the Dash For Cash. Brett Michalski, returning to the speedway after a
hard crash from a week ago that saw him get upside down, followed in behind
Greth with Jay Hartman, Jonathan Hull and Brian Gilmore following. Jeff Hartman,
the recent champion of the Pennyslvania 600 Speedweeks fell back in the early
going and got turned around before the first ten laps were completed forcing him
to restart from the rear of the field. As the laps clicked off, Greth was able
to maintain his lead despite heavy pressure from Michalski and Jay Hartman and
the Carber Brothers, Mike and Brian. A lap fourteen incident saw Jonathan Hull
get upside down as he battled for position with Brian Gilmore and both cars
suffered damage and had to be towed from the racing surface. Another incident
slowed the field on lap-20 as Brett Schoenly was forced into the Jersey barriers
resulting in damage to his race car. On the restart problems once again beset
Michalski as he slowed in turn two ending his night. With Greth fending off the
advances of Jay Hartman, the intense racing action behind them saw some heroic
efforts taking place. Jeff Hartman was rallying through the field as he became
quicker as the race wore on. Kyle "The Hot" Lick was on a mission of his own as
he drove from 13th starting spot to become a player in the event. Austin Burke
began the event from 16th position and used a series of moves to put himself
into contention. B-Main transfers Shelby Harper, Kyle Rohner and Jacob
Hendershot were finding some workable real estate to join the chase to the
front. Greth was superb in hitting his marks and maintaining the lead and Jay
Hartman was relentless in keeping up the attack. Jeff Hartman found the rhythm
and was the fastest race car on the track in the closing stages of the event. As
starter Russ Furry unfurled the final checkered flag of the evening it was Greth
scoring the win and earning the $1,000.00 pay day with Jay Hartman, Mike Carber,
Jeff Hartman and Kyle Lick completing the top five. Brian Carber, Austin Burke,
Shelby Harper, Billy Clark, Alex Curley, Kyle Rohner and Joesph Smith completed
the top twelve finishers.
POCO-NOTES:
Once again the Smith team threw down the gauntlet to produce another exciting
evening of racing action. With Randy Smith unable to work on the raceway after
the storms rolled in on Friday, Smith and his staff worked feverishly right up
until race time to give the drivers a great track to race on. The track narrowed
a bit with all of the racing action that took place during the evening but the
great roster of driving talent at the speedway continued to thrill the great
crowd on hand all evening long with their daredevil drives all around the race
course.
Thirty-two All Star Slingshots signed in to do battle as the roster of driving
stars grows with each passing week of the season. New drivers on hand for the
division included Tyler Treacy and Shaina Barker with former karter Ryan Lacoe
returning to action in an evenign that saw Kyle Rutledge picking up a ride in
the Tom Arntz slinger for the evenimg and Late Model star Ben Whitaker back in
one of the Clark Garage entries for the second straight week. Tayllor Schoenly
returned to action as did AJ Tonkin.
New Junior Slingshot racers continue to arrive at the speedway as seventeen cars
took to the track for the feature event. Kira White and Kevin Predmore returned
to action as did Evan Van Valkenburg who is a part time performer due to the
fact he resides in Scotia, New York. Brody Adamsky is a new face in the crowd at
Hamlin with a recent purchase of one of the former Benke race cars and Adamsky
was a ninth place finisher in the main event. Allison Kaminsky continues to
impress with a seventh place finish in the former Dale Reed racing equipment. In
the Rookie 270's, Grady Johnston was only racing in his seventh ever dirt racing
event as the rookie campaigner did all of racing previously on the pavement in
the quarter midget ranks. Former Quarter Midget champion Glen Macomber returned
to action and Doug Evanuski and Pam Badaracco made their first Hamlin starts.
Pam is a second generation driver whose Father Larry Badaracco was a former Lake
Mocatek Speedway champion in the past. Scotty Cox was a new face in the Super
Slingers with a paint job on his sparkling new racer very reminiscent of the
Newt Hartman days when he driving Modified for Mike Tosco. Cox ran great but
suffered from a chain problem at the start of the Super Slinger main. Jim Conroy
and Bob Wilson were new entries for the division and Conroy was stout with an
eighth place finish but Wilson suffered early as his clutch exploded in a sea of
shrapnel.
The Dash for Cash was captured by Ryan Greth with Brett Michalski, Jeff Hartman,
Jay Hartman, Jonathan Hull and Brian Gilmore following. Jay Hartman was the
fastest qualifier for the 600's with a time of 12.380 seconds. Jeff Hartman with
a 12.401, Brett Michalski with a 12.430, Brian Gilmore with a 12.481 and Ryan
Greth with a time of 12.507 followed as the top five qualifiers.
Caitlin Henneforth and Dylan Martin captured the heat race wins for the Juniors.
Scott Avery in the rookie 270's and Eddie Strada and Jacob Hendershot in the
rookie 600's were victorious in the preliminary events for the rookies. Scotty
Cox and Wes Hearn in the Super Slingers, Larry Mekic in the 270's, Joe Howey,
Charlie Shaver, Shannon Smith and Tyler Dippel were winners in heat action while
Shalby Harper and Billy Clark claimed wins in the B-Mains for the 600's and AJ
Tonkin scoring a win in the B-Main for the Slingshots.

The Hamlin Speedway Is The Gateway To The Poconos
K-C Raceway Results
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 10, 2011
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-The NRA Sprint Invaders blitzed into K-C Raceway where Ronnie
Blair, Troy, Ohio brought home the popular win over a fine field of cars in a
green-to-checkered, non-stop run at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway
Saturday night. In the highly competitive AMRA Late Model feature, Jackson, Ohio
driver Jason Montgomery
blasted from a 6th place start to the win, Jeremy Berwanger, Murray City claimed
the AMRA Modified main, and unstoppable Jamey Adams claimed the Hobby Stock win.
104 cars raced the pit area and a large mid-summer crowd was in attendance at
Ohio's fastest 3/8 mile dirt track.
Ronnie Blair, the 2003 Limaland Rookie of the Year, and semi-regular on the K-C high-banks took the lead from Luke Hall on the 5th circuit and never looked back. Hall led the initial parade into turn one with Blair close in tow. On the first restart Caleb Helms and Shawn Dancer tangled to bring out the red.
Once the race restarted, it was flat-foot, pedal-to-the-metal racing for the next 25 circuits. Hall led early with Blair and Butch Schrader all within a nerf-bar of the leader. The trio raced hard for 8 laps with Blair the new leader, now being chased by Schroeder and a rocketing fast-timer Kyle Sauder.
Jimmy Nier battled Luke Hall and Sauder much
of the early going, while J.R. Stewart began a march to the front. Sauder bagged
both Hall and Nier for third, then Nier held off the
charges of Stewart for a top five.
Momentarily, Blair got hung up in lapped
traffic, allowing Schroeder to make a last bid. Once again in free sailing Blair
blitzed on to the popular win in his Eagle Chassis/Charlie
Fisher engines #35. Always a crowd pleaser at K-C Blair said, "I've just kept
getting closer and closer (to a win). I think this is my greatest track in the
country. I love to run here and do pretty well here. Wow! It's great to get this
win. It is Awesome!"
Rounding out the top ten were Ronnie Blair, Butch Schroeder, Kyle Sauder, Jimmy Nier, J.R. Stewart, Randy Tony Beaber, Jared Horstman, and Hud Horton. J.R. Stewart was the Hard Charger in a 12th to 5th place run. Young Jesse McCreary had a good run come to an end when a broke wheel sent him catapulting through turn four in his heat. McCreary was uninjured.
The late model feature was a stacked,
star-studded field which included many track champions from both the surrounding
area and K-C Raceway. A great three-wide race irst eleven laps.
Conley grabbed the lead on the initial start, pulling Smith into turn one. Smith
dogged Conley much of the first six laps, when sixth place starter (due to the
redraw) Jason Montgomery made it a three way race.
Fans watched the great dual in awe as Montgomery twice pulled along-side Conley in traffic only to get squeezed by a lapped car and shuffled back to third. Smith flew high by Conley momentarily on the high side down the main chute, but Conley again pulled rank at the flagstand. A pack of ten cars, three front runners and seven cars back in the pack made both for a tedious and exciting race for nearly ten laps. Montgomery came back into the fold and took the lead on lap 12, only to have a spin slow the field and put Conley back on the point.
Two laps after the restart Montgomery in his
Chip Estes Engines/Rocket Chassis #21 flexed his muscle and sailed on to the
win. Gaining popularity with the K-C fans, Smith held third until late when
veteran points leader Delmas Conley blasted by for position. Fast timer Ben
Adkins tried Smith several times with no avail, while Mark Frazier, who battled
hard with Kevin Wagner much of the race finally made the past for sixth. Dean
Boyd had a good car all night long, racing hard with Wagner and Mike Wilson for
position and Dylan Huron worked his way up the ladder for tenth.Rounding out the
top ten were Montgomery, Rod Conley, Delmas Conley, Chad Smith, Ben Adkins, Mark
Frazier, Kevin Wagner, Dean Boyd, Mike Wilson, and Dylan Huron .
Montgomery was also the hard charger in the nearly caution free run. "Rod raced
us clean. He always does," exclaimed Montgomery. "This is the first
victory with my new daughter here,so that made it special." "Thanks to my
family, crew, all my sponsors, and Montgomery Machine. This win was for my
Grandma and Aunt that I lost this week, and for racer Paul Coyan, former K-C
Champ who had a heart bypass and has helped influence my racing. It was a tough
week, but winning helps."
Jeremy Berwanger took advantage of an early
spin by points' leader Dave Fireball Pinkerton, then blasted off to the races.
Former AMRA champ Kenny Johnson was eliminated on the first start as well,
setting the stage for what was another great, caution-free feature. Brian
Whiteman overcame a couple weeks of hard luck to return to championship for as
the
defending champ challenged early and posted a strong second place. Whiteman had
the hammer down, but the x-car of Berwanger had just a little too much.
Tim Tribby it seemed had cars around him all night long, but the veteran
maintained poise in holding off hard charger Rob Stambaugh and Steven Duty, then
making a late race pass of Tim Rayburn. Mark Kaetzel has had two impressive runs
at K-C this season holding off great charges of Jimmy Lennex, Jeremy Rayburn,
and Luke Jordan. Stambaugh was nothing lessthan impressive in a 20th to fifth
place run. Vince Conrad, one of the AMRA points leaders, in a rare K-C
appearance won the consy and advanced seven spots in a great run.
Rounding out the top ten were Jeremy
Berwanger, Brian Whiteman, Tim Tribby, Tim Rayburn, Rob Stambaugh, Mark Kaetzel,
Jimmy Lennex, Jeremy Rayburn, Luke Jordan, and Vince Conrad. Berwanger said in
victory lane, "We've been good and had a great race car all year. We've just had
some bad luck and it was good to see it come together tonight, especially for
my crew. Thanks to all my sponsors, my owners--Tony, Delbert, and Ralph and
everyone else who works so hard on this team."
Jamey Adams now has a bounty of over $150 on
him. He is now 9 for 9 after bring home the Dan Reno Hobby Stock win Saturday
over the ever-improving, hard running Brandon Mather. Mather stayed with Adams
much of the way, but Adams was just too overpowering.
Three great runs highlighted the night. Brandon Thompson started scratch in
Jason Holstein's car and blasted toward the front. No less impressive was that
of Tommy Mossbarger, former track champion, who started 17th and catapulted to a
fourth place run only to be edged out by inches at the line for third. The three
drivers all had great drives for good finishes. Officially, the last to third
run of Thompson was the Hard Charger honor.
After tempers had flared earlier in the night all the hard-charging and good show was praised by the fans and staff in the feature of the highly competitive division. Additionally, TraceyRoss was involved in a mid race tangle and blasted back off the tail for fifth in a great drive. Davey Akers held third much of the race, but faded late for sixth. Rounding out the topten were Jamey Adams, Brandon Mather, Brandon Thompson, Tommy Mossbarger, Tracey Ross, Davey Akers, Phil Rice, Jack Martin, Butch Eblin, and Paul Baker.
K-C races again Saturday, July 16 with the
Boss Sprints, Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Rear Wheel Drive Four Cylinders..No

Dave Brigati Calling Victory Lane Home at Mountain Speedway
By: Gene Ostrowski
July 9, 2011
St. Johns, PA- On the same Saturday night of celebration for 50 years of marital
bliss between Mountain Speedway Promoter, Joe Callavini and his wife Dorothy,
Dave Brigati of Long Island, NY and his crew celebrated in victory lane after
winning the Sport Modified victory at the speedway. Also from Long Island, NY,
Kyle Harvell took the lead on the opening lap of the Late Model feature and held
off rival Craig Lutz to score his first career win in the division and Matt
Schlenker of Walnutport came out the victor in the Factory Stock division
following a three-wide pass on the final lap.
Chip Wanamaker started from the pole position and led the first circuit of the
40-lap Sport Modified feature over Barry Callavini, Paul Frantz, Nick Pecko and
Pat Verwys until the caution flag waved when Joe Wielgosz spun in turn two.
Green flag racing resumed and Callavini overtook Wanamaker for the top spot.
Meanwhile, Pecko overtook Frantz for third.
With Callavini still in command by inches over Wanamaker, Dave Brigati got by
Kevin Orlando for the fourth spot on lap 14. Eight laps later he overtook Pecko.
Callavini’s car began to fade and Wanamaker fought hard for the lead. However,
Brigati took the second spot from Wanamaker on lap 26 in turn one. He then shot
by Callavini on the same lap for the lead in turn four before the yellow and
then red flags waved two circuits later when Dean Ficarro’s engine expired and
then caught fire.
The green flag came back out but a quick yellow followed when Orlando spun in
turn three. Several other drivers were collected in the incident, including Todd
Geist, Geary Rinehimer and Frantz.
Green flag racing resumed with Brigati still in command. Wanamaker in second,
followed by Callavini, Pecko and Mike Skarbowski. Will Schneider ran sixth and
was overtaken by Jason Hearn for the position following the restart.
Brigati began to put some distance on second and with seven laps remaining,
Skarbowski grabbed the fourth spot from Callavini.
Untouchable, Brigati drove off to take the checkered flag for the second time
this season. Wanamaker finished in the second spot, followed by Pecko,
Skarbowski and Hearne.
Chip Wanamaker and Dave Brigati were heat race winners.
Jerry Tunney led his fellow Late Model drivers to the drop of the green flag in
the 50-lap, double points event. Tunney didn’t seem to get up to speed quick
enough on the start and the field began to stack up behind him. The end result
was Kyle Harvell as the race leader and a caution for debris on the first lap.
Adam Cox ran second to the leader, followed by Craig Lutz, Travis Fisher and
Francis Gross III.
Green flag racing resumed and both Lutz and Fisher overtook Cox. They battled
with each other before Fisher grabbed second on lap three. Meanwhile, Gross took
the fourth spot from Cox on lap four.
The yellow flag waved on lap five when the engine expired on Tunney’s car.
Fisher tried to make a move for the lead on Harvell following the restart, but
once again, the leader began to pull away.
Fisher, Harvell and Gross viciously battled for second and then Lutz finally
made the pass for second with nine laps remaining. With Harvell still scored as
the leader, Lutz began to close the gap.
Fisher tried to hold on to third and then lost the spot to Gross with six laps
remaining. Meanwhile, Lutz climbed to within two car lengths of Harvell, but
there wasn’t enough time to battle, as Harvell captured his first career Late
Model victory. Lutz settled for second, followed by Gross, who finished a season
best in third. Fisher ended up fourth, followed by Cox.
Heat race victories went to Craig Lutz and Travis Fisher.
In only his second Factory Stock start of the season, Paul Morgan, Sr. started
from the pole in the 20-lap feature. Jeff Searfoss took the race lead before a
lap was completed, but Morgan retook the top spot on the following circuit. Matt
Schlenker followed through to take second and with three laps complete, Searfoss
ran third, followed by Rich Paciotti and Chris Parry.
Schlenker stayed glued to the back bumper of the leader over the first half of
the event before Searfoss gave the outside lane a try. Lap after lap, both he
and Schlenker battled for second while Morgan continued with the lead, heading
toward his first victory.
Not far behind the top three, Chris Parry, Paciotti and Joey Barbush battled for
the fourth position.
Searfoss cleared Schlenker for second with four laps remaining and it appeared
that Morgan was on his way to victory lane, but that all went by the wayside on
the final lap when Searfoss battled side-by-side with the leader as they entered
turn one. Schlenker saw an opening and joined the mix, making it three-wide.
The trio made contact and all three drivers held on to the handle of their cars.
Somehow, Schlenker came out with the victory. In a hard-fought battle, Morgan
and Searfoss tangled coming to the checkers, with Morgan finishing a career best
second. Searfoss ended up third, followed by Paciotti and Parry.
The victory marks the third of the season for Schlenker.
Heat race wins went to Paul Morgan, Sr. and Chris Parry.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY - Accord Speedway Takes Another Hit From Mother Nature
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The Accord Speedway will once again bow to the forces of Mother Nature as
tonight's July 8th program has been cancelled for this evening. After coming off
a superlative week last Friday with great racing and a bombastic display of
illumination from the one and only "Wild Bill", speedway promoters Gary and
Donna Palmer had hoped to continue with the great racing action but have
reluctantly decided to throw in the sponge and allow for the racers and fans to
make alternative plans for this evening. The unpredictable weather pattern in
the Northeast has caused three cancellations in the past four weeks at the
speedway.
The next racing action at the speedway will take place on July 13th when Midweek
Madnesss swings back into action next Wednesday night with a multi-division
entertaining show for the smaller divisions of racing. With a revamped format
for the Midweek programs, the exciting racing action has produced some great
side by side and wall to wall competition headed by the three divisions of
Slingshots that are performing at the speedway. The Palmer Family has been in
control of the Accord facility since late 2000 and the 2011 racing season marks
the eleventh season of successful promotions since they took over the ownership
of the speedway.
All feature events for the Modifieds will offer $2,000.00 to the winner. The
Friday night racing will culminate with the running of the King of the Catskills
weekend set for September 23rd and 24th. The yet to be determined format of the
ROC Modified portion of the event will once again see $7,000.00 awaiting the
winner of the WLR Construction sponsored feature event in the Lucas Oil Products
winners circle. A series of qualifiers are in place in conjunction with other
area speedways in an effort to have all of the speedways working together in a
cohesive manner. The American Racer East Coast Modified Cup program is in place
at Accord and will provide additional opportunities for the drivers and teams in
2011. The Accord Speedway management is very appreciative of all of the
assistance they have received from track sponsors Lucas Oil Products, VP Fuels
and American Racer, all divisions sponsors Rhinebeck Ford, Camper's Barn, DC
Landscaping, Healey Brothers Group, Arkel Motors and Ruge's Part Centers as well
as all of the many speedway billboard sponsors and the great fan base for their
continuous support of the great racing found at the Accord Speedway.
Midweek Madness will get back on track on July 13th and will run until August
31st the speedway will once again have a diverse group of racing divisions
entertaining the fans with the quick-hitting show. Quads, Go-Karts, three
divisions of Slingshots, 270 winged Micros, 600 Micros, Legends, Bandoleros,
4-Cylinder Juniors and 4-Cylinder Seniors will all be going to war on the Accord
high banks and the addition of all of the exciting new divisions will produce
some excellent side by side racing on the ultra-wide channeled speedway. The
very affordable admission fee of $5.00 is in place for the Wednesday night shows
and the well noted concession stand will be open for food and beverages
throughout the racing card.
Friday night racing at Accord runs from April through September with six great
divisions going to war on the Accord high banks. Next week Bob Flood and his All
Seasons Fuel Company will serve as the headline sponsor for the evening's event
and will feature the five regular divisions at the speedway and the return of
the 305 Sprint Cars to the Accord high banks. For all special attractrions at
the speedway an increase in admission prices will be in effect. Admission for
the great racing action remains the same from a season ago as Adults (12+) will
be $12.00; Children (11 and under) will be $3.00. The Family Value Pack that was
met with much success last season is once again offered and is: 2 Adults, 2
Children, and $20.00 in food vouchers for $40.00, a savings of $10.00 to the
consumer. Pit Gates open at the speedway at 4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5.
Hot laps kick off at 6:30 and the racing is slated to start at 7 PM.
Chad King is the current leader in points in
the series over former Modifed racing talent Jamie Christian. The 2010 Modified
Rookie of the Year at the speedway "The Quack Attack" Geoff Quackenbush is
reportedly preparing his sprint car for the upcoming show.
