Berwanger Whips AMRA Mods/ Adams Awesome Again
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Richmond, Indiana driver "Insane" Duane Chamberlain passed
Jason Montgomery on the 15th circuit, then fended off hard-charging Montgomery
for the win Saturday night (July 30, 2011) in the AMRA Late Model feature at
Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway. The "Murray City Bandit" Jeremy Berwanger
claimed the AMRA Modified main over a stout field of open wheelers in the
Advanced Service headliner and Jamie Adams claimed yet another win in the Hobby
Stock division.
Said Chamberlain in victory lane, "Jason (Montgomery) was just as good as me. He raced me clean and fast, but the lapped traffic put me in the right place at the right time. The track was good again tonight and it makes two in a row." ( Chamberlain won the night before at Moler Raceway).
The points race tightened up after defending champ Delmas Conley was eliminated in a first heat accident. That pitted Chamberlain and Montgomery against each other early after Kevin Wagner and Mike Wilson paced the field after the redraw.
Wagner experienced some early difficulty after Wilson blasted into the lead. Wilson and Montgomery scrapped hard with a pair of cross-over moves that exchanged the lead on several occasstions over the first three laps. Meanwhile, heat winner Wagner was blasting off the tail in his new Rocket toward a solid top ten run."
Audie Swartz had another good run, shaking a pesky Dean Boyd early in the race, then overtaking Wilson by lap ten. Wilson was a solid top three early, but faded as the race progressed.
Billy Gullion was strong during the mid-sector of the race, dueling hard with Boyd and Swartz for position until Boyd's mount broke and went pitside. Ralph Withem, Athens, Oh. had his second straight strong finish at K-c, winning a battle with Dylan Huron and Mark Frazier. For ten laps, the three-- sometimes four with Gullion in contention-- battled for position.
Chamberlain chased Montgomery ferociously after the Jackson native took the lead from Wilson. Montgomery was masterful in traffic until Chamberlain saw his window of opportunity coming out of turn two and used a lapped car in a successful pick and roll. With the tables now turned, Montgomery now gave chase of Chamberlain right down to the wire.
Although Wagner had a great run after going to the tail in a gallant, hard-charging effort, the official "hard charger of the race" was young Nick Latham in a 21st to 13th place run. Wagner fought from last to seventh. Rounding out the top ten were Chamberlain, Jason Montgomery, Audie Swartz, Ralph Withem, Mark Frazier, Dylan Huron, Kevin Wagner, Billy Gullion, Mike Wilson, and Tony Roush.
A great team celebrated a special moment in the Advanced Services AMRA Mod main victory lane as owner Dave Rawlins and the "X-Crew" joined talented driver Jeremy Berwanger in an emotional moment of glory. Rawlins' longtime companion Gina Davis, widely known around area racing circles, passed away at Mid-week, leaving a void in the local racing community.
Said Berwanger, "I don't know what it was or what we've done; the car was the best it's ever been. (pausing) I think I had a co-pilot tonight. We dedicate the win tonight to Gina."
Berwanger, the former AMRA National Champion struggled through an off-season last year, but has found renewed life this season with several big wins.
Points leader and reknown local racing talent Dave Fireball Pinkerton and J.P. Roberts paced the field to the initial green. Pinkerton was whistled for the jump and set back two positions, placing Mark Bailey on the point. Immediately it became a four-car dash among initial leader J.P. Roberts, Berwanger, Pinkerton and Stambaugh. The four fought viciously for three laps when Berwanger took aim at the lead and never looked back.
The race for second, however, was abundantly exciting. Roberts, Stambaugh,
and Pinkerton pressed hard for position until several bouts with the wall
sidelined the point leader. Roberts and Stambaugh continued the feud with Scott
Edmisten, Brian Whiteman, and Deana Groves battling hard in multiple position
swaps for a top five.
Jeremy Rayburn, the magicman during this month of July, once again transformed
bad luck into mega-thrust charges from the tail to a top five. Rayburn, the hard
charger came from 20th to fourth in a run that entertained all in attendance.
Kevin Delany, Tim Rayburn, and Rick Venham, Jr. also had good runs on a night
where some hot iron speckled the top ten of the highly competitive division.
Rounding out the top ten at the finish were Berwanger, Rob Stambaugh, J.P. Roberts, Jeremy Rayburn, Scott Edmisten, Brian Whiteman, Deana Groves,Kevin Delany, Tim Rayburn, and Rick Venham, Jr.
Nearly speechless in victory lane, Jamey Adams said after his 12th Hobby Stock win, "I just don't know what to say. The car worked well again tonight and as I've said before, it takes a lot of hard work and support from a bunch of people to get here. Thanks to everyone who helps me."
Adams has said it all in victory lane and where it counts--On the track! But this win was not so easy. For most of the 20 laps Bruce Grary, Jr. sat squarely on Adams' back bumper. Although Gray has been to victory lane several times himself, this race may very well have been his best run. Gray never bobbled, but neither did Adams.
By lap 14 of the 20-lapper Brandon Thompson made it a three way race. Thompson was closing the gap fast. On the 18th circuit Gray blasted low alongside Adams, but couldn't make it stick, thus setting up for a last lap bid. The pass attempt pulled the three cars within feet of one another as Gray made another bid in turns three and four of the final lap. With Adams barely a car length ahead, Gray and Thompson passed side-by-side with Gray second.
Solidly in fourth was Brandon Mather who repelled the efforts of Dave Akers--the hard charger in a 9th to 5th place run. Besides Mather and Akers, Mike Brust had a strong run to best Tracey Ross and Jim Hildebrand. Rounding out the top ten were Adams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Brandon Thompson, Brandon Mather, Davey Akers, Mike Brust, Tracey Ross, Jim Hildebrand, Jason Holstein, Butch Eblin, Tim Cutler, and Richard Trego.
K-C is idle for the next two weeks, closing for local area fairs. The track will
reopen Saturday, August 20 and come back on August 27 for two big weekends of
racing.

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Hamlin, PA - Familiar Faces Share The Winner's Wreath In Successful Racing Card
At Hamlin Speedway
by: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway Promoter Randy Smith had just about completed his preparation
work on Friday afternoon for the busy Saturday of racing ahead at the premier
speedway in the Pocono Mountains when a quick hitting thunderstorm unleashed a
torrent of water on his freshly manicured speedway. In a heartbeat a ton of hard
work went down the drain but undaunted Smith fought back by traveling to his
speedway at first light on Saturday morning and began the process of re-doing
the same prep work for the speedway that was washed away a day before. That
being said, when the 115 competing race teams rolled into the speedway on
Saturday afternoon, the speedway was ready for the tremendous racing action that
was about to follow. The Mid Atlantic Slingshot feature headliner was captured
by Kyle "Hot Rod" Rode as he claimed the top spot after one of competition and
then held off the field in a close blanket finish over a herd of hot rod cowboys
who chased him across the finish line. The win for Rode was his second in the
last three weeks of racing at the speedway. Nunzi Allegrucci captured the 270
Micro event for the winged warriors while "The Wild Child" Brian Gilmore
captured his second wingless 600 Micro main of the new season. Charlie Shaver
showed the hot hand in the Super Slinger encounter and "Thrillin" Dylan Martin
added another win to his impressive 2011 racing resume with a win in the Junior
Slingshot event. "The Jet" Justin Brewster found the speed and guile to reign
supreme in the Rookie wingless 600 headliner and newcomer Dereck Frederick was a
quick study in figuring out the tricky quick Hamlin racing surface and went on
to wire the field in his first appearance at the speedway. The entire hotly
contested evening of racing entertainment was completed at 9:47 PM that was
presented by S&S Speedways.
Henry Anderson grabbed the lead at the start of the 26-car starting field
feature event but gave way to Rode after the first lap. Rode had a great set-up
in his Frank Smith Surveyors/St Jude's Children Hospital sponsored buggy and
drove out to a three car advantage over Anderson, Charlie Shaver, "The Rockaway
Rocket" Danny Buccafusca and the "Brass Section" John Bockhorn. As hard as Rode
tried to distance himself from the field, the racing action remained close
throughout the pack. Shaver made a nice move underneath Anderson to claim the
runner-up spot and Buccafusca followed suit a couple of laps later placing
Anderson to fourth place but still very much in the hunt. A couple of skirmishes
slowed the action but each time the event re-started it was Rode up to the task
at hand to remain at the head of the class.
A 28th-lap caution for a disabled Shannon Smith found the field bunching up for
a two lap shootout. Rode was cat-quick as he held off a last ditch effort from
Shaver with Buccafusca moving to the inside lane to try to slip by Shaver. Rode
went on to score a narrow win over Shaver, Buccafusca, Anderson and a late
charging Dale Kober as the top five finished under a blanket. Mack Brink, Billy
Weaver from 24th, Aaron Henneforth, Cody Kline from 22nd and John Pantis
completed the top ten that saw 21 of the 26 starters finish the hard fought
contest.
The Super Slingers main event saw Charlie Shaver blasting out of the starting
gate at the drop of the green flag and leading all of the way to capture another
feature event at the speedway. Henry Anderson kept pace as the runner-up and
Aaron Henneforth claimed a podium finish in third place. Tom Arntz and Dale
Kober duked it out the entire race for fourth position and it was Arntz finally
claiming fourth place in the final lap of the vent with Kober finishing up in
fifth. Roger Collins got a late start but rallied to claim a nice sixth place
finish..
Nunzi Allegrucci, the 2008 and 2009 champion at the speedway for the 270 Micros,
was back in top form as he grabbed the lead at the start of the event and fended
off all challengers to return to victory lane at the speedway. CJ Heinig
finished second with Tommy Kunsman making a great drive from 10th starting place
to finish third with Robbie Watson and Larry Hoagland completing the top five
finishers.
The fourteen car starting car field for the Junior Slingshots showed the amazing
talent the stars of tomorrow exhibit when they are on the racetrack. "The
Predator" Kevin Predmore was quick to the point from his outside starting spot
and led the first six tours around the speedway. Dylan Martin executed a nifty
pass on the inside of Predmore to seize the point and control of the event. As
the laps clicked off the competition became closer and closer as Predmore
remained close while "The Weasel" Jacob Dunn, Chris Kurtz and Allison Kaminski
all followed closely behind. Martin was not to be denied as sped under Russ
Furry's checkered flag for the win with Predmore in the runner-up role and Dunn
claiming third place. Kurtz and Kaminski completed the top five and the second
five consisted of newcomer Jared Labagh, Bobby Flood, Kyle Gruber, Tyler Peet
and Thomas Strupp.
Justin Brewster took the lead at the start of the Rookie 600 Wingless Micro
event with fellow New Yorker Stephen Reynolds in tow. Brewster was turning
consistent laps in the 12.4 second range to remain at the point and led all of
the laps to claim another win at the speedway. Stephen Reynolds finished a close
second in a great run for the youngster who found himself upside down just a
week ago at the speedway. "J-Shot" Jacob Hendershot rim rode his way from a 13th
place start to finish third and Austin Burke was fourth with Simon Egan
completing the top five. Tim Howell, Danielle Dickinson, Chris Rupp, Eddie
Strada and Jamie Czekai completed the top ten finishers.
The Rookie 270 Micro feature saw newcomer Dereck Frederick prepared to go racing
as he seized the lead at the start of the event and led all laps to capture his
first ever win at the speedway. Scott Avery claimed the runner-up spot with
Hayden Miller in third, Makenzie Harper in fourth and Paul Rimsky completing the
top five.
Brian Gilmore took off at the start of the 600 Wingless feature headliner with
"The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner in tow. While Gilmore was out front, a battle
raged behind him as Rohner was fending off the charging posse of Jay Hartman,
Joe Kata, Jeff Hartman and the "Incredible" Jonathan Hull. The racing action
became closer and closer as the laps clicked off and and the top eight cars were
running under a blanket as the talented drivers tried to find the fastest piece
of sweet real estate that would seal the deal to the front. Gilmore was up to
the task as he picked up his second win of the season with Rohner doing great
work as the runner-up. Hull made some daring but calculated moves to land in
third place with Joe Kata in fourth and Alex Curly rounding out the top five.
Jeff Hartman, Brett Michalski, Billy Clark, Mark Manieri and Dan Beacon
completed the top ten finishers.
POCO-NOTES:
The hotly contested evening of racing entertainment began on time and the staff
kept moving the program along swiftly with a couple of breaks taken to add
moisture back into the track surface and keep the race track racy throughout the
evening. The large crowd on hand for the events saw a couple of cars get upside
down during the evening as rookies Heidi Hedin and Steve Van Valkenburg made
hard contact with the Jersey barriers and snap rolled their race cars in
separate incidents with much damage being incurred to both race cars. Neither
driver was unhurt from the scary incidents.
Heat race wins were claimed by Allison Kaminski and Kevin Predmore in the Junior
Slingshots. Kyle Rode, John Pantis and Charlie Shaver captured the first round
of heats for the Slingshots while Jeff Cosgrove, Aaron Henneforth and Brandon
Clauss were victorious in the second round of heats that determined the starting
field for the headliner. Greg Stevens and Justin Brewster prevailed in the 600
Rookie Wingless heat events and Nunzi Allegrucci and Larry Hoagland won the 270
Micros heats. Super Slinger heats went to Charlie Shaver and the returning Tommy
Vroom. Billy Clark and Jeff Hartman captured the heats events for the Wingless
600 Micros. The Rookie 270 Micro heat was won by Dereck Frederick.
Promoter Denise Smith was missing from the Saturday night event as she traveled
to attend a funeral in Ohio. General Manager Megan Ammirato, who was released
from the hospital on Friday afternoon, did a yeoman's job to get through the
evening with the help of Kaiti Sassano and Alleson Rode.

Newberrytown, PA (July 31, 2011) – On Saturday night, July 30 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, 2011 Late Model point leader Justin Ehrhart of Dover claimed the spotlight for himself this week by winning his fourth win of the year. In victory lane, Ehrhart successfully did his patented backflip off of his racecar. In Street Stock racing action, Hanover’s Dan Zechman picked up win number seven in the Street Stock division. Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick continues to dominate in the Xtreme Stock Car class by winning his fourth consecutive feature of the season. The 25-lap Late Model feature event started with Gary Potts grabbing the lead from the pole position. Justin Ehrhart started sixth and set sail on the outside, passing cars one after one. By the third lap, Ehrhart had taken the lead from Potts. Alex Updegraff moved into the runner-up spot on lap 6, but was unable to make a pass for the win and settled for second behind Ehrhart at the end. Carl Billet and Coleby Frye battled back and forth for the third spot during the waning stage of the race with Frye taking the spot over Billet at the end. Gary Potts finished strong in fifth. Heat wins went to Ehrhart, Billet and Gary Potts.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Jeff Haag took the lead from his third place starting spot at the start of the race. Haag set the pace until lap 11 when Dan Zechman moved by Haag to take the top spot. Haag held onto the runner-up spot until lap 15 when he was forced to retire from the race with mechanical issues. Scott Thunberg took over the runner-up spot and waited for Zechman to falter, but that opportunity never came. Zechman took the win over Thunberg with Randy Zechman finishing third after falling out of the top ten early in the race. Doug Bennett finished fourth, followed by Jimmy Slaseman. An extensive post-race technical inspection found all top five competitors abiding by the technical rules. Randy Zechman and Haag were heat race victors.
J.R. Rodriguez took the early lead in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event until he was forced to the pits on the second circuit for a flat tire. Adam Smith inherited the lead and ran strong until veteran Donnie Broderick took the lead on the thirteenth lap and went on to record his fourth consecutive win. Patrick McClane was involved in an early accident, but returned from the rear to finish second. Ricky Bender finished third, followed by Smith and Rodriguez. Davey Nester and Rodriguez won their heat races.
The Sidewinder Sprint Cars made their first ever appearance to SSP with Seth Kearchner taking the early lead. Kearchner and Saloney battled the entire race, swapping the lead five times. Kearchner led 12 laps with Saloney leading 8 laps, but Saloney led the final and most important lap to thake the victory over Kearchner. Joe Robertson finished third, followed by Mike Kiser and Dennis Hendershot. Zack Overmiller and Kearchner were heat race victors.
The 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature saw Auburn’s Aaron Brommer continue to dominate the class with his fourth consecutive win of the season. RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES
TERRY GRAY FROM BARTLETT, TN ENTERS RISLONE URC SPRINT NATIONALS
CURT MICHAEL NARROWS POINT LEAD AS JJ GRASSO LEADS RISLONE URC POINT CHASE INTO
WILLIAMS GROVE FRIDAY NIGHT
He began his racing career in 1974 and since that time, Terry Gray just keeps
winning races.
The popular and nationally recognized driver from Bartlett, TN has accumulated
three-hundred and fifty feature wins at some ninety-two different speedway's, an
accomplishment seen by few. Gray will be making the trip to the Williams Grove
Speedway on Friday night, August 5 to take part in the Rislone URC Sprint
Nationals. The event pays $5,000 to win and Gray has never won at the famed
Mechanicsburg, PA oval and his list of accomplishments is still missing a URC
career win. URC is the nation's oldest traveling sprint car organization,
celebrating their sixty-fourth season in 2011. This event is especially
important to Terry Gray as his team sponsor, Rislone, is also the sponsor of
this high profile 360 sprint car event.
With $5,000 to win on the line, the Williams Grove event is equally important in
the Rislone URC point chase for the 2011 Championship. JJ Grasso, URC champion
in 2009 currently holds a narrow point advantage over seven time URC Champion
Curt Michael. In 2010, Grasso led the point chase most of the way, but race
after race, Michael wore down that point lead and took the championship laurels
in the season finale at the Weedsport Speedway. In 2011, Grasso and Michael are
at it again. Just slightly past the mid-season point, the battle is tight. On
different twist in 2011, Boyertown, PA driver and two time feature winner this
season, Randy West is also within reach of the title along with fourth place
point man Josh Weller of Mertztown, PA. This championship battle is far from
over the Rislone Nationals could play a key part in the outcome.
URC regular Kramer Williamson, a former champion and winner at Williams Grove
will be in the hunt for the $5,000 Rislone Nationals win along with former
Rislone National winner Ed Aikin. Dave Ely of West Lawn, PA is an entry as well.
Ely is still another feature winner at the Williams Grove Speedway. Showing a
lot of strength this year especially on the big tracks is Robbie Stillwaggon of
Burlington, NJ, and he is sure to be in the thick of the chase for the win.
Several expected invaders for the Rislone Nationals is Lance Dewease, planning
to drive the potent Scott McClaren #21. The McClaren #21 with Shane Stewart at
the wheel won the Jack Gunn Memorial at the Selinsgrove Speedway earlier this
year. Mark Smith and his MACH 1 sprinter won a URC race at the Williams Grove
Speedway in 2010 so he too could be prime to collect the $5,000 first place
prize. Pat Cannon is another previous winner of the Rislone Nationals that
should be in the field along with Selinsgrove, PA driver Blane Heimbach.
Pat Cannon won the first Rislone Nationals back in 2006 with victories going to
Ed Aikin in 2007, Kenny Adams in 2008, Aaron Ott in 2009 and Daryn Pittman is
the defending winner of the Rislone Nationals in 2010.
This event is without a doubt, the richest single night payoff of the season for
the URC 360 sprints. Not only are the drivers shooting for the $5,000 winner's
share, the 25 lap event will pay $1,000 for tenth and $325 just to take the
green flag. Race time is set for 7 PM at the historic Williams Grove Speedway in
Mechanicsburg, PA.
Special thanks to Rislone for making this event as big as it is. The involvement
of Rislone has also offset the need for a pre-entry fee for the competitors.
Along with the popular 360 sprints, the 358 sprints are also invited to compete
in the 6th Annual Rislone Nationals.
All the details for this event are located on the URC website at
www.urcsprints.com. Please go to
the Competitors Page and click on 2011 National Sprint Payoff for all the
details to include car specifications, tire rule, handicapping and the complete
payoff.
The big weekend for the URC sprints continues the following night, Saturday,
August 6th, as the Rislone URC Sprint Series will head t. "the big track",
Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport, NJ. Without a doubt, Bridgeport Speedway is
the biggest and possibly the fastest track on the URC tour. This is super URC
weekend of money, speed and media exposure.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY - Accord Speedway Midweek Madness Racing Action Produces Another
Great Show
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
As the scorching month of July closes in on it's finals days, a beautiful summer
evening brought an enthusiastic crowd of eager racing fans out to the Accord
Speedway to once again witness the many young and sensational young driving
stars who will help propel the future of auto racing in the area. The Accord
Speedway was once again in prestine racing condition as the silky smooth quarter
miler was in top form under the watchful eye of promoter Gary Palmer and the
competitors took full advantage of the great race track under them as they
reeled off a show that was completed at 9:32 PM. The Midweek Madness shows will
continue every Wednesday evening and run until August 31st. The event sets the
stage for the upcoming Friday night action as the Palmer Family presents a six
division show headed up by the VP Fuels/Rhinebeck Ford Modified Division going
to war for the $2,000.00 payday on the line for the victor. The evening of
events will also see the return of the thrill a second Lightning Sprints
division as part of the evening of activities sponsored by Ruge's Parts Center
at the speedway.
The exciting action from the preliminary events carried over into the running of
the main events for each division. The feature events began with Kenny Phillips
winning in the 0-50 Quad event and the 51-90 Quad feature was once again "The
Little Torch" Melissa Torchio show as she won for the seventh straight week of
racing over newcomer Lucas Roth.
Teammates George Johnson and Joey Bruning put on quite a show in the Kart racing
action and the event wasn't decided until the start/finish line with Bruning
winning over Johnson by a whisker with Friday night racer Lenny Helmich in
third, Ray Hulseapple in fourth and Chad Cooper completing the top five while
Gary Huston in the Kart Heavy division emerged victorious and Blake Hulseapple
scoring a win the Kids Kart division. Brandon Gates returned to action and won
the Amateur Quad event over a returning Scott Gaumer while Richard Jarvis
continued his winning ways with a win in the nightcap in a very close battle
over Danny Cross and Brandon Gates.
Slingshot racing action was once again front and center in the evening of events
for the great field of driving stars were on hand for the evening. "The
Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby got out of the starting blocks early on as he
established the perimeter and took the lead and led all of the way to record his
third win of the season at the speedway that is also coupled with four second
place finishes in the seven weeks of competition thus far. Tyler Dippel used a
late rally to finish in the runner-up role and Shaina Barker ran a great race to
finish in third place. Defending track champion Jimmy Babb returned to action to
finish in fourth place and another newcomer Trevor Labagh completed the top
five. Tyler Treacy ran upfront until his slinger pulled up lame late in the
event and Tyler Pirone was an early departure after the first heat was ran off.
Rookie Slingshot action found Carly Velez finding the quick way around the
raceway as she steered her Advanced Concrete sponsored Slinger to the point
after a solid side by side battle with Matthew Shultz to record another win at
the speedway with Shultz in the runner-up role and Carly Dippel a very close
third..
"The Midget" Chris Kurtz has been on fire at the speedway all season long and
found the top shelf of the speedway to his liking as he sped away from the field
at the drop of the green flag to go and record another victory at the speedway.
Former track champion Michele Campbell raced to a runner-up finish in her best
showing to date and Brandon "Juan Pablo" McGill also found the top side of the
raceway to be rewarding as he drove to a third place finish in his Mid Hudson
Concrete/Redi Rock International sponsored hot rod. "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel
finsihed in fourth place with the vastly improving Leo Fotopolous completing the
top five. Tyler Johnson found problems sidelining his primary mount in heat
racing action and the Shultz Family was kind enough to allow "The Tornado" the
use of the Liberty Rock Crushing speed buggy for the remainder of the evening.
Johnson finished seventh in the main, one spot behind Jared Labagh.
Junior Four Cylinder excitement found John "Little" Davis winning the feature
while Sarah Bohlin captured a main event in the dual overhead event and Walt
Henry scoring another win the Senior Four Cylinder finale.
Goshen, New Yorker Joe Kata captured the 600 Micro feature win at the speedway
in a close battle with Terry Finney and Bruce Leote.
Midweek Madness will continue from August 3rd until August 31st every Wednesday
evening. Gates open at the speedway at 5 PM with Hot Laps scheduled for 6:45.
Racing is to start at 7:15 PM. Admission for the Wednesday shows is just $5.00
and the great concession stand is open throughout the racing card. Next week,
"My Ride" writer Donna Kessler for the Times-Herald will be on the speedway
grounds doing some backgropund work for an upcoming article she will be writing
for the newspaper.
Friday night racing at Accord runs from April through September with six great
divisions going to war on the Accord high banks. This week, Ruge's Parts Center
will serve as the headline sponsor for the evening events and will feature the
six regular divisions at the speedway with the return of the thrill a second
Lightning Sprints division. Admission for the great racing action remains the
same from a season ago as Adults (12+) will be $12.00; Children (11 and under)
will be $3.00. The Family Value Pack that was met with much success last season
is once again offered and is: 2 Adults, 2 Children, and $20.00 in food vouchers
for $40.00, a savings of $10.00 to the consumer. Pit Gates open at the speedway
at 4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5. Hot laps kick off at 6:30 and the racing
is slated to start at 7 PM.
The ever so popular Camera & Autograph Night returns to the speedway on August
5th along with five divisions of racing hitting the Accord high banks. This
event provided a great opportunity for the fans to have pictures taken with all
of their favorite drivers as the homestretch at the speedway becomes abuzz with
race cars and great racing fans.

Veteran Slingshot Racers Appear In National Points
For many race car drivers, just racing is what it's all about and for quite a
few of the drivers slotted in the Slingshot by Tobias All Star National top
14,it doesn't matter what class of car you are racing, sliding into the Briggs &
Stratton race cars can still be a way of getting their racing fixes.
The current top 14 in All Star National points is seeing a mix of the old and
new as 2010 National Champion Shannon Smith is atop the current point standings
with perennial top 10 finisher Brett Bieber only 3 points behind at 195 to
192.Shannon's hot pink 23 is a favorite at many tracks and her 2010 win at the
Reading Nostalgia Nationals, solidified her run to the championship. Brett's 32
has been the one to beat at Shellhammers and also resides in the top 3 point
chase at Kutztown Fair Speedway.
Former regional champion and always a threat when taking the wheel of a
Slingshot is Jim Housworth who currently resides in 3rd,only 18 points from the
coveted top spot. Housworth's venture into the Crate Sportsman class at New
Egypt is paying dividends as is the current 4th place driver in Slingshot
National Points, Warren, NJ's Matt Dealaman who is juggling his Slinsghot
National schedule with a SpeedSTR schedule. Matt with 145 points is tied with a
fellow Jerseysite, JR Fulper who finds a way to get his green 67 into the big
point positions when the checkered is thrown.
Matt Carman, who has seen his share of Slingshot wins and regional
championships,is part of the Elite 11 with a point total of 140 as he sits just
5 points ahead of Rick Conrad who gets around the tough Shellhammers oval aboard
his #25 mount.
Heading back north for some weekly racing is Boyertown,PA's Brenden Clauss, who
has found that being steady is paying off with his 211 visiting a few more
speedways during the 2011 racing season.Brenden currently is 8th with another
Slingshot veteran,Milford,NJ's Mike Butler using his Herr's Snack Bowl win in
Atlantic City to propel him to 9th after 3 National races run.
Matt Mertz has taken his # 97 to various speedways and not settling in with
weekly competition and he rounds out the current top 10 in the point chase. His
runs in the MA Silver region prove he can wheel it with the best of them.Newly
elected to a public office and cutting his racing schedule back hasn't hurt
Ricky Yetter's current run for the Elite 11 as the CC5 driver is tied with the
Ryan Raidline who has really come into his own and is a threat every time he
takes the post in his Big Dog 00.
Travis Bieber. piloting the 114 Slingshot and Tiffany Wambold,a former weekly
Slingshot racer, are just outside the Elite 11 and with a good run or 2 could be
in contention for an Awards Banquet payout.
The Bilstein Shocks All Star National Champion Elite 11 has a point fund payout
of over $4900 with the champion also getting a new chassis and body.
Last years total tour payout for the All Star Class National, Regional and
Speedweeks totaled over $5200 with this years amount to reach the $6300 mark.

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
Adult Admission Just $20. . . . . . . .
FANFEST ALWAYS A HIGHLIGHT AT. . . .THE TRAFFIC JAM WEDNESDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 3RD
AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
The 14th Annual TRAFFIC JAM for modifieds joined by the sportsman will make-up
another showcase event presented by the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill
Racing Series only at the Grandview Speedway. This event, sponsored by Chad
Sinon/BPG Motorsports will be the highlight modified race of 2011 Thunder
Series. The winner of the 60 lap TRAFFIC JAM will pocket a hefty $8,500 first
place prize. Along with the Race of Champions Modifieds, the ROC Sportsman will
be on the program as well with the show getting underway at 7:30 PM. Always a
special treat for the spectators, is FANFEST, an opportunity for the race fans
to come onto the homestretch as the TRAFFIC JAM starting field is stage to take
the green flag. In previous years, hundreds of race fans walked the homestretch,
taking pictures and gathering autographs of the TRAFFIC JAM starting field. When
the fans return to their seats, the call for "Gentlemen start your engines" will
be made and with a load roar, the twenty-four car starting field will pull off
the grid, just moments away from the drop of the green flag.
The ROC sportsman will run a 40 lap feature paying $1,000 to the winner with a
shot at some bonus money thanks to Joe Adams Lettering. The top five sportsman
in the feature that were pre-entered will earn an additional $50. Drivers may
pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456.
The inaugural TRAFFIC JAM took place in 1998 and Brett Hearn earned the center
podium position in victory lane. The following year, Jimmy Horton was the winner
with Frank Cozze taking the win in 2000 as Timmy McCreadie earned his first
TRAFFIC JAM win in 2001. Brett Hearn was the first repeat winner in 2002 with
DIRTcar standout Billy Decker winning the TRAFFIC JAM in 2003. Timmy McCreadie
returned to the always joyous Grandview victory lane in 2004 with Tim Fuller
winning the event in 2005, Alan Johnson in 2006, Brett Hearn in 2007 and Billy
Decker again in 2008. Brett Hearn scored his fourth TRAFFIC JAM win in 2009 with
VonDohren the winner in 2010.
The $8,500 winner's share in the 60 lap TRAFFIC JAM will certainly bring out the
best of the Grandview regulars to include Duane Howard, Craig VonDohren, Ryan
Godown hot off that impressive ROC win at the Battle of Lincoln, Doug Manmiller,
Rick Laubach, Billy Pauch and Kevin Hirthler. Expected invaders include Brett
Hearn, Billy Decker, Danny Johnson and Stewart Friesen just to name a few.
Friesen scored his first Grandview win in the 2010 Race of Champions event.
This will be the richest TRAFFIC JAM payout in the fourteen year history of the
event, a continued celebration of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing
Series reaching their 100th event milestone in June of 2011. Special thanks to
Chad Sinon/BPG Motorsports for their continued support of Thunder on the Hill.

JERSEY RUSH INVADES NEW EGYPT
July 28, 2011
WRITTEN BY: JERRY REIGLE
TYLER WALKER STOKED FOR UPCOMING "JERSEY RUSH" AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY TUESDAY,
AUGUST 30
NEW EGYPT, NJ – Anyone can win the race.
But Tyler Walker is definitely a fan favorite when it comes to the upcoming 410
Sprint Car “JERSEY RUSH” at New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday, August 30. Walker
enters the race, the first for the Sprint Cars at the New Jersey dirt track,
since 2007, as one of the most hyped drivers in the industry.
Two weeks ago, Walker of Los Angeles, Calif., steered the Jesse Keen-owned No.
17 to victory at Eldora (Ohio) Speedway where he won the King’s Royal $50,000
prize. Walker is one of only five 410 Sprint Car drivers who won main events at
New Egypt Speedway. He won a spirited contest in 2000 in what some described as
the one of the best events ever contested at the track.
“I can’t wait for this event,” Walker said. “It came out of nowhere and anytime
we can have a high-paying event, we’ll be there. “It’s events like this that
keeps the sport growing. The purse in exceptional and it’s a race drivers and
teams should support.”
Walker, of course, is known for his charismatic style of racing. Recently, it
took him to Victory Lane at Eldora Speedway. “We’re running really well right
now,” Walker said. “This team is coming together at the right time especially
with all the big-paying races coming up. The Jersey Rush is one that we would
like to add to our season resume.”
The event will showcase two premiere divisions – the 410 Sprint Cars and
Modifieds.
The 410 Sprint Cars last appeared at New Egypt Speedway in 2007 when Steve
Kinser won the main. Other winners include Donny Schatz (2001 and 2003), PJ
Chesson (2002), Walker (2000) and Billy Pauch (1999).
Interest is high for the event as pre-entered drivers include Greg Hodnett,
Lance Dewease, Dave Ely, Justin Henderson, Fred Rahmer and Ryan Taylor. Several
New Jersey drivers including Rick Lafferty, Davey Sammons, Robbie Stillwaggon
and Mark Bitner hope to defend their turf. New drivers are being added daily.
The 30-lap feature event will pay $4000 to the winner and a $1000 bonus is
offered the first pre-entered driver across the line meaning the winner could
take home $5000.
There is no entry fee for a driver to be eligible for the bonus, but they must
pre-enter before August 12th by calling 443-513-4456. Another benefit to being
pre-entered is that any non-qualified driver, who is entered prior to the race,
will receive $100 in tow money.
A Meet and Greet is being organized by officials for fans to get an up close
look at the drivers and cars. It will take place from 5-6 p.m., the gate from
Victory Lane to the pit area will open to allow spectators to go pit side.
The standard purse will include $4000 for the winner, with $2000 going to the
runner-up, $1600 to third, $1500 to fourth and $1400 to fifth. The balance of
the purse will pay $1300 (sixth), $1200 (seventh), $1100 (eighth), $1025 (ninth)
and $1000 (10th), $825 (11th), $725 (12th), $600 (13th), $525 (14th), $515
(15th) and $400 (16th-24th). The sprint entries are open to any 410, 360 or 358
however, 305 sprints are not permitted to compete.
The Modifieds, led by top winner Billy Pauch, will be the second half the this
popular "double trouble" event competing in qualifying heat races all leading up
to the $3,000 to win 30 lap modified feature.
General admission is $30 for adults, $10 for children 6-11 and kids under the
age of six will be admitted for Free. The pit fee is $35 and a license is not
required.
The event is a co-promotion between Lenny Sammons, his sons and special events
organizer Bob Miller.

Janisch, Lyons Wolf & Weaver Big Kahuna
Stars
The 3rd stop in the Big Kahuna Series at New Egypt Speedway had some
international flavor as the Canadian SpeedSTR teams were part of the racing
action and the action on the speedway was as hot as the 90+ degree temperature
that greeted the racers during hotlaps.
A timed dash was used to line up the top 10 SpeedSTR's with Brandon Rahmer and
Scott Munroe showing the way for the front row honors.A B Main lined up the
remaining 10 cars.
The support classes had their qualifiers run off in a timely fashion and the New
Jersey 125 was scaled back to 101 laps as the 60 minute time limit was set into
action. As soon as the green was given all eyes were on the blue # 1 driven by
Richie Cass,Jr.Cass. at one time, had 2 laps on all but 2 other
competitors.Right front suspension parts gave way forcing Cass to the
infield, giving the lead over to another Small Car,the # 49 of John Crosby.Crosby
pitted under a red, thus altering the restart order after the red flag.A final 6
lap battle came right down to a last lap scramble as the red, white and blue # 99
of Tom Wolf had a 3 car length advantage over Mark Naftzinger in his John Deere
green and yellow # 3 and used a slower car to safely increase his margin of
victory.Mark's teammate Jamie Naftzinger got back on the lead lap around lap 80
and was quickly catching the leaders. This would be the Big Car top 3 and also
the final running order at lap 101.Notching his 1st ever Great American Enduro
win in only his 2nd race was New Egypt Speedway's general manager Danny Serrano
who took the Small Car honors in his John Crosby prepared 60 OverSaturn.
Wayne Weaver was the recipient of the Big Kahuna winner's surfboard as his
Tobias blue # 17 grabbed the 8 lap win.
With a John Romano Memorial guaranteed spot on the line the 30 lap sportsman
feature was cutback to 20 as showers were beginning to hit the well prepared
track surface. This did nothing to prevent a photo finish at the 20 lap mark as
Mike Lyons' white flag run will be something the race fans will be talking about
for awhile.Bob Lineman,Jr. had his USA-1 out in front for 19 laps ,but a late
race restart saw Lyons venture out from the lowside and stay even with Lineman
as the white flag was being waved. They remained side by side in turn 2 and down
the backstretch, but the 21L of Lyons found some traction heading off of turn 4th
as the margin of victory was noted as 18 inches, with Lineman giving everything
his mount had,but settled for a 2nd place payout.
The start of the SpeedSTR feature saw Brandon Rahmer quickly dominate the first
few laps with some new faces putting the pressure on the teenage driver.Ryan
Smith was taking the Fragile X Foundation #8 to challenge Rahmer and Stan Ploski
was doing some serious wheeling and dealing in the Bulldog Arts # 5.A lap 8
restart saw Smith get a jump but mechanical problems slowed the 8 down and Smith
pulled off the speedway while in a top 5 spot.Rahmer looped the 88 in turn 2 and
now a new group of frontrunners were emerging as Matt Janisch in the Valvoline #
3 and Gary Huber were the headliners with Ploski,Brittany Wixon and Kyle Hieber
as the new top 5.Hard luck struck on lap 15 as Matt Dealaman who was keeping
pace within the top 10,took 4 quick snap rolls in turn 1 bringing out the
red.The restart now had an earlier spinning Brandon Rahmer back in the mix and
the last 2 laps for 3rd through 5th would be determined at the finish
line.Janisch grabbed the $2000 winning prize with the Huber # 11 having just
enough power to make it across the finish line for a second place run.Kyle
Hieber came from the 17th starting spot to haul in 3rd place money aboard the
Bucks County International # 6.Ringoes,NJ's Stan "The Man" Ploski was just
that,THE MAN, as he came home 4th in his return run in a SpeedSTR.Rounding out
the top 5 was Brandon Rahmer in the Tru-Line #88 who patiently worked his way
through traffic after an early race spin.A strong run for Reading,PA's Brittany
Wixon who took the Lee Wixon prepared Vince's Towing # 15 over the scales with a
6th place run.
Hotlaps began at 12:25 and the final
checkered was thrown at 4:05,considering a 60 minute time limit was used for the
Great American Enduro, the show was completed in admirable fashion with a very
racy track surface prepared by the New Egypt track crew.

Evett Memorial. As this writing goes to press, last year's USAC/CRA Sprint Car
Rookie of the Year has seven top-10 finishes and led fourteen main event laps in

main event competition.
Tipton's "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. and Peter Murphy of Clovis have also
claimed victory in 2011. Faria won Hanford's Jim Evett Memorial on July 16th and

Jason Hughes Launches Website; World Modified Championship Next
Westville, Oklahoma (07/26/11) – Jason Hughes from Westville, Oklahoma is the
latest addition to the MSRMafia.com Team and has launched a new website at
www.JasonHughes12.com .
Jason, who was the 2010 Casey's General USMTS Hunt Champion, pilots the #12 West
Siloam Pawn/Gressel Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified at
events throughout the country. He has been racing for over 23 years and has
hundreds of wins to his credit. When not piloting his Open Wheel Modified, he
also makes random outings in his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Mastersbilt Super Late
Model. Thus far into 2011 Jason has recorded nine Open Wheel Modified feature
wins and one Super Late Model win.
This weekend, July 27th-30th, Hughes will set his sights on a $20,000 payday as
he enters the World Modified Dirt Track Championship at Deer Creek Speedway
(Spring Valley, Minnesota), which will be sanctioned by the Casey's General
USMTS tour. Over 150 of the nation's top Open Wheel Modified pilots have entered
the event, and the field has been split into three separate qualifying nights,
where they will accumulate points toward Saturday night's starting grid for the
finale. Jason will take part in Wednesday night's qualifying program. For
information on the events, please visit
www.DeerCreekSpeedway.com
and www.USMTS.com .
Last weekend, Jason took part in a pair of events. Friday night found Jason back
in action with the Casey's General USMTS tour as he took part in the opening
night of the 1st Annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood,
Nebraska). Thirty-three entries were on hand for the event, and after advancing
from the sixth starting spot to a third place finish in heat race action, Hughes
earned the 11th starting spot for the 40 lap, $2,000-to-win feature.
In the feature, Hughes would quickly work his way forward through the pack, and
on lap 24 he would race his way past Jeremy Payne to claim the second spot. Over
the closing laps of the feature, Hughes would reel in the leader, Kelly Shryock,
and by the time that the white flag flew Hughes and Shryock were side-by-side
for the lead. Heading into turn one on the white flag lap, Hughes would inch
ahead before seeing Shryock race his way back to the lead and the win. Jason
would finish in the second position.
Saturday night concluded the 1st Annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway
as a $2,000-to-win, 35 lap feature was on tap. Thirty-four cars entered the
event, and after finishing fourth in his heat race, Jason narrowly missed the
cut for the main event, and as a result was forced to run a b-main.
After winning his b-main, Hughes started 14th on the grid for the feature.
During the course of the event Jason would advance a few spots before seeing
mechanical issues with just three laps remaining bring his night to an end in
the 16th position. Full results are available at

Quincy, Illinois (07/26/11) – It was another great weekend for 12 year-old, Jake
Griffin as he pushed his win total for the year to four by claiming a pair of
ULMA Late Model victories.
On Friday night Jake raced his way to his third ULMA Late Model Series win of
the 2011 season as he topped the action at Callaway Raceway (Fulton, Missouri).
Griffin started the feature in the third starting spot, and would take over the
top spot on the seventh lap. Once at the front Jake would never look back as
raced to the win, which came over ULMA National point's leader, Jason
Bodenhammer.
In the UMP Open Wheel Modified division Jake was running sixth in the feature,
when he began experiencing overheating issues, which relegated him to a 10th
place finish. Full results are available at

The team traveled to Lake Ozark Speedway (Eldon, Missouri) on Saturday night for
a pair of UMP Open Wheel Modified events, which included a make-up feature as
well as a $2,000-to-win event. The first feature would see Jake start 13th in
the first feature before advancing to an 8th place finish. In the $2,000-to-win
event, Griffin would race from his 15th starting spot to an 11th place finish.
The ULMA Late Model division was not a part of the evening's program. Full

position for the feature. In the main event he would quickly work his way to the

VANDERWEERD BROTHERS LEAD 360s TO SANTA MARIA
Brothers Richard and Jace VanderWeerd of Visalia, Calif. could be heading for a
historic 1-2 finish in the 2011 USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Championship. The

It’s been 40 years since brothers have dominated a USAC racing series but the
VanderWeerds have been very successful so far, posting a half-dozen podium
finishes and eight other “top-10s.” Both have victories in 2011, Jace at Santa
Maria Speedway in April and Richard at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford
earlier this month.
Richard holds a 54-point lead over Jace heading into this Saturday’s race. With
Bud Kaeding 20 points behind Jace in third.
Other 2011 USAC West Coast 360 feature winners so far include Kaeding (4), Peter
Murphy and Danny Faria Jr.
USAC’s Western Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns series also are in action at
Santa Maria Saturday.
