Federated Auto/Fisher Auto Parts 35 Super
Weekend Gets Bigger
AMRA Proud to Unveil Revitalized Road Warrior Challenge
Schrader to appear at both tracks/ Wallace at Natural Bridge
(AMRA) American Motor Racing Association News Release June 3, 2011
MT. ALTO, WV- Beckley Motor Speedway, Beckley, WV and Natural Bridge Speedway,
Lexington, VA have come together for AMRA "Super Weekend" Friday, June 10 and
Saturday, June 11 for a pair of "Federated Racing Fisher Auto Parts 35" modified
extravaganza's, featuring the powerful AMRA open wheel modifieds. Although the
two tracks are working together in a festive spirit, a sort of "Border Wars" has
emerged in what is quickly becoming one of the biggest weekends in AMRA Road
Warrior Challenge history; if not one of the biggest in all of open wheel
modified racing.
In addition to one of the top notch purses east of the Mississippi, another drawing card is the appearance of NASCAR legend Kenny Schrader, who will participate in the program in his Federated Auto Parts dirt modified. Also billed on the card for Saturday night at Natural Bridge is another Kenny--Kenny Wallace, "The Hermanator", who will also compete in his Federated Auto Modified (only Sat.). The close proximity of the tracks makes the weekend attractive to both racers and fans.
Although Schrader and Wallace are on the Marquis, there is a supporting cast of many of the best open wheel racers in the country, including past and present AMRA stars, and track champions from member AMRA tracks who are committing to the huge race weekend. Top name drivers from outside the AMRA are also showing interest in coming to town to sweep the best of the AMRA. Many bragging rights are at stake.
An attractive addition to the NBS program is
that 24 cars will take the green flag for the feature. 18 cars plus the RWT
provisional will be the norm at Beckley for a 19-car field.
Friday at Beckley, Eagle Coal, Gerald Stokes/West Star Management of Beckley, WV
and Vondy Brunty have sweetened the pot as race sponsor, elevating the Beckley
purse to $1,200 to win and $175 to start, a total feature pay-out of $6170.
Also, there will be a "Dash for Cash" paying $100 to win, featuring the six heat
race winners. Racers will have to race their way into the dash and their finish
will determine the starting line-up for the feature.
A similar "Dash for Cash" has been added at
Natural Bridge where Erwin Racing Supply is sponsoring the $100 to win dash; and
Brett Hamilton Enterprises is sponsoring the race hard-charger to the tune of
$100. In addition, the NBS race will pay $1,500 to the winner, $200 to start in
the first-ever appearance of the Road Warriors at the thriving speed-plant.
Both races are 35 lap features with one (1)- lap qualifying, a fast car dash,
qualifying heats, and at least one B-main. The evening will culminate with the
"Federated Racing Fisher Auto Parts 35" features.
Natural Bridge Speedway promoter's Larry and Karey Ramsey are pleased to be a part of the newly formed partnership with the American Motor Racing Association for the 2011 racing season as well as hosting other AMRA events. The Natural Bridge team is looking forward to a great season. Likewise, one of the veteran promoters of the AMRA, Jimmy Williams of Beckley Motorsports Park is pleased to be a partner is this great racing opportunity. Additionally, the AMRA is pleased to have both tracks and Federated Auto Parts working together so diligently to put on a great show for both fans and drivers.

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Hamlin, PA - Blockbuster 6th Annual Two-Day Sizzzler Electrifies Hamlin Speedway
Weekend
by: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Doing things the proper way elevated the Hamlin Speedway another notch above the
rest as the successful promotional team of Denise and Randy Smith ushered in
their 6th Annual two-day Spring into Summer Sizzler over the past weekend at the
Hamlin Speedway located near the junction of Routes 191 and 590 in Hamlin,
Pennsylvania. The Blockbuster weekend of racing activities brought out 121
entries for the Friday night racing and followed up Saturday with 144 entries
for a two day total of 265 entries topping last year's numbers of 98 entries on
Friday and 126 on Saturday. For the Smith Family, who have long standing ties
with the greater racing community, the two day event proved to be the icing on
the cake for their promotional efforts as they took over the shuttered Hamlin
facility in 2006 and through hard work and vision and a dedicated work force,
the speedway has been resurrected into one of the top speedways in the country
for small division racing action. The now famous picnic, a roaring bonfire and
the exciting on track racing action provided the tons of fireworks throughout
the record setting weekend at the speedway. The threat of rain on Saturday did
nothing to deter the great crowd on hand and as the cars pulled onto the race
track for hot-laps the sun came blasting though the clouds to give indication
this was truly a weekend for the racers.
The makeup feature for the All-Star Slingshot racers from May 21st kicked off
the main events. The hottest Slingshot driver in the country Simon Egan
continued to have the hot hand and and big right foot as he powered his way to
his sixth triumph overall in the 2011 racing season. Cody Kline was the
runner-up with Billy Clark in third, John Pantis fourth and 2010 Empire champion
Charlie Lawrence completing the top five. The make-up Wingless 600 Micro feature
followed and it was Garden Stater Jeff Hartman finding the magic to claim the
feature win in his Hyper hot rod and the $750.00 top prize that went along with
it. Mike Carber was the runner-up with hard charging Brett Michalski claiming
third place money and Shelby Harper and Brian Carber completing the top five.
Ryan Smith won the regularly scheduled 270 Micro main with Joe Smith, Robbie
Watson, Tommy Kunsman Jr and Matt Mountz completing the top five. Bullville, New
York's Tommy Zwart made his lone appearance of the weekend count as he scored
his first career win at Hamlin in the Junior Slingshot showcase event. Chris
Kurtz was the runner-up with Zack Weisenfluh, Dylan Martin and Kyle Gruber next
in line. Justin Brewster captured the Rookie 600 main event over Rick Perone
with Austin Burke, Tim Howell and James Morris following. Marc Daniels borrowed
a ride to capture the Super Slinger main with Wes Hearn continuing his great
work at the speedway to nail down the runner-up spot with Aaron Henneforth in
third, Bob Clark in fourth and Jimmy Johnston completing the top five. The
Rookie 270 main was captured by Makenzie Harper over Scott Avery and Hayden
Miller.
Don Schmidt became a first time career winner at Hamlin when he captured the
Slingshot main event in a stellar drive over a the toughest Slingshot field in
the country. Youngster Danny Buccafusca continues to impress with a solid
runner-up finish and not to be denied was Eddie Strada as the South Canaan
sensation drive to an impressive podium finish. Cody Kline was fourth and
Charlie Lawrence fifth to complete the top five. Super Slinger champion Paul
Ennes, Mike McLaughlin, Shannon Smith, Simon Egan and former track champion
Billy Clark completed the top ten finishers. Wes Hearn raced his way into the
main event by capturing the B-Main.
Brett Michalski raced to a convincing win in the Wingless 600 Micro main as we
over a very stout field of talented drivers in doing so. Ryan Smith, Brian
Carber, Jay Hartman, and Mike Carber rounded out the top five. The second five
consisted of Ryan Greth, Mick D'Agostino, Kyle Lick, Jordan Tittle, and Billy
Clark. Tom Kohler raced his way into the main event with a win in the B-Main.

The speedway swung back into action on Saturday night with two make-up features
from May 21st for the rookie open wheelers. In the first Bernville's Hayden
Miller established himself at the point at the drop of the green flag and led
all twenty laps to claim the win with Scott Avery in the runner-up role and
Makenzie Harper and Ron Pierson completing the top four finishers. Jacob
Hendershot led the first ten laps of the rookie 600 main make-up until spinning
out. Justin Brewster inherited the lead and lead the remainingl;aps to claim the
victory. Austin Burke finished second with Jamie Czekai and Larry Mekic in third
and fourth and Jacob Hendershot storming back to claim a fifth place finish.
"The Little Tornado" Zack Weisenfluh was on the money with a wire to wire
triumph im the Junior Slingshot main event. "Thrillin" Dylan Martin provided the
competition when he broke through late in the event to challenge but settled for
the runner-up role. "The Midget" Chris Kurtz rolled into third place with Jacob
Dunn and Thomas Strupp completing the top five and newcomer Kevin Predmore Jr
making a strong impression with a sixth place finish after running with the
leaders until trapped behind a lapped car.
Super Slinger racing found Wes Hearn wielding the hot hand as he drove into the
lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back to claim his first
Hanlin Speedway victory.
Aaron Henneforth silently drove through the field to slip by second place man
"The Harmony Hurricane" Roger Collins to finish second with Collins in third in
his return to the Hamlin facility. Tommy Vroom Jr raced to fourth place and hard
driving Henry Anderson completed the top five positions.
Mike Casario utilized a front row starting spot to grab the lead at the start of
the 270 Micro main and led every lap to claim the victory in a superb drive for
the roses. "The Hurricane" Harlee Schaffer was in for a great runner-up finish
with Connecticut's CJ Heinig in third, Joe Smith in fourth and "The Aviator"
Robbie Watson rounding out the top five. The rookie 270 Main followed and Scott
Avery and Hayden Miller locked up in a dual for seven laps until they got
together with both requiring wrecker service to remove them from the racing
surface. On the restart, Makenzie Harper drove away from the field to claim the
win with Ron Pierson second, the returning Missi Seip in third, Paul Rimsky
fourth and newcomer Alyssa Riker completing the top five.
Justin Brewster led the first fifteen laps of the rookie 600 main event with Tim
Howell following closely behind. Howell picked up the pace when Brewster came
into lapped traffic and surged ahead to claim the win with Larry Mekic in the
runner-up role and Brewster finishing in third. Jamie Czekai and Steve Van
Valkenburg completed the top five.
Troy Langendoerfer hadn't been enjoying his best success on the speedway until
Saturday night. A malady of problems seemed to always curtail his racing efforts
but the Honesdale youngster put it all together with a sweet drive in the All
Star Slingshot main event to hold off the best in the business in the world of
Slingshot racing. A few anxious moments were encountered throughout the running
of the feature event as the S&S Speedway gunslingers Shannon Smith and Simon
Egan came rushing hard seeking victory as well as former National Slingshot
Champion Cody Kline. Langendoerfer bobbled a couple of times but no one could
gain an advantage as he righted the ship quickly to maintain his slight
advantage over the field. A caution on lap-23 slowed the field and on the
restart Smith utilized a top of the raceway pass to slip by Langendoerfer but
another caution slowed the action and the field reverted back to the lap before.
On the next restart Langendoefer played defense and he protected the top and
Smith dove to the bottom and nearly pulled off the pass again but Langendoerfer
held on and raced to the victory in close finish over Shannon Smith, Simon Egan,
Cody Kline, Mike McLaughlin, Charlie Lawrence, Bill Clark, Don Schmidt, Kyle
Rode and John Bockhorn.
The HTMA 600 Pro Series event had 44 of the best Micro drivers in the country
doing battle on the 1/5 mile Hamlin surface. After a dual heat format
established the top 16 starters, a 24 car starting field duked it out for 20
laps in a B-Main event that added the top eight to the starting field with Mike
Dicely being added due to his point status in the series. Brian Carber started
from the pole and led every lap of the 30-lap headliner to claim the victory but
the event was a wild and wooly affair as every single inch of the speedway real
estate was utilized by the drivers to make their move to the front. No one could
buy the real estate as the talented racers had to drive hard to earn it. Carber
did lose the lead one occasion as "Flyin" Ryan Smith was relentless in
pressuring first Jonathan Hull and then leader Carber as he took over the lead
only to lose the handle and get connected with another car to end his splendid
drive. When the racing went back to green, Shane Lewis slipped by Hull to move
into the runner-up slot to finish second with Hull in third, Brett Schoenly in
fourth and Billy Clark completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Brett
Michalski, Mike Carber, Luke Thomas, Ryan Wilson and defending track champion
Bobby Butler.
Eric Bodine captured the B-Main shoot out in a solid drive over Shelby Harper.
The B-Main was halted on a couple of occasions but the most serious was a wild
tumble taken by 2010 rookie 600 champion Joe Kata as a mad scramble in front of
him blocked the racing channels and Kata got up over a wheel and got upside
down. Kata was shaken in the scary incident but climbed out of the damaged racer
under his own power. Kata later took a trip to the hospital to check out his
vitals signs and was cleared to return home. The Kata Family would like to thank
everyone for expressing their concern and offering help at such a critical time.
Joe is at home resting after the ordeal but is anxious to return to the seat as
soon as the racer is mended.
POCO-NOTES:
Former Lake Mocatek Speedway Co-Announcer Justin Beltrame was scheduled to fill
in for Speedway Announcer Steve Pados on Friday evening but his Mom was rushed
to the hospital and is in the intensive care unit. The speedway staff and
managment has Mrs Beltrame in their hearts and prayers. Former New York racer
Russ Sharp on a moments notice took over the announcing duties and did an
admirable job in his first ever announcing venture. Sharp was very impressed
with the Hamlin facility and the intensity of the great racing that takes place
there.

season on A-Plus Sewer Service night at the racetrack and another great card had
the enthusiastic racing fans wanting more as hometown spun racing star "Little"
Richard Smith overcame a strong performance from Connecticut based Modified
rookie Mike Sabia to claim his first victory of the season at the Ulster County
speedplant. The bright sunshine and warm eighty degree weather greeted the
always loyal racing crowd and the 118 driving hopefuls who poured into the
Accord Speedway last evening as the Palmer Family presented another outstanding
and entertaining racing spectacular as the Accord kitchen specialists offered up
Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Baked Bean platters that proved to be a quick
sell-out for the large crowd on hand. The evening also saw former Pure Stock
champion "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson capture his first ever win at the speedway in
the Healey Brothers Group Spec Sportsman main event.
After a series of hotly contested heat events, Mike Sabia and Richard Smith
brought the 23-car starting field of VP Fuels/Rhinebeck Ford Modifieds to the
line to kick-off the 30-lap feature attraction for the Modifieds. Sabia,
sporting Big Block power, won the drag race at the start of the event and set-up
shop as the leader for the first eleven laps of the exciting racing show. A
stoppage to the contest for Andy Bachetti and Don Roselli gave Smith the second
chance he was seeking. When racing resumed, Sabia chose the bottom channel to
restart from and it was Smith alongside of him when the green flag waved. Smith
and Sabia were hard on the throttle as the pair of hot shoes raced into turn one
but it was Smith with the hot hand as he lowered the boom to power off of the
top shelf of the raceway with the lead down the backstretch. Sabia was able to
stay with Smith for a few laps but coming on quickly was a pack of Modified
stars attacking the Accord clay with a vengeance as they worked their way into
contention. From 14th starting position came point leader and all-time Modified
Brett Hearn as he used a couple of hot lanes in his pursuit of the leaders.
Hearn brought along Danny Creeden, Mike Ricci, Jerry Higbie and Jeff Heotzler
with him and the star studded field duked it out for their section of real
estate as they came a calling.
"The Jet" was applying a ton pressure to Sabia and the dual for position allowed
Smith to slip away from the field as he never waivered in seeking his first
victory of the season. Sabia did an outstanding job at holding off the best in
the business and was able to turn back the Brett threat each and every lap of
the 30-lap journey. As the checkered flag fell at the end of the event it was
Richard Smith claiming the win in a brilliant drive from the top shelf of the
raceway. Mike Sabia was the runner-up with Brett Hearn settling for third place
money and still maintaining the 2011 point lead at the speedway. "DC" Danny
Creeden continued his outstanding work at the speedway with a fourth place
finish and "Iron" Mike Ricci rallied back to claim fifth place money. Jerry
Higbie, Jeff Heotzler, Robbie Green, Clinton Mills from 20th and Richie Eurich
completed the top ten finishers.
The Camper's Barn Sportsman main proved to be exciting from start to finish as
David Coene out-gunned pole sitter Will Dietz to lead the first seven laps of
the feature attraction. Coene brought with him some dancing partners as Jeff
Hulseapple Shane Jablonka were involved in their own real state transaction.
"Buckshot" Mike Barrett, who got off to a slow start, found his channel of
choice and began to make his moves from the basement. Barrett was fast from the
bottom and soon disposed of both Hulseapple and Jablonka and set sail for Coene.
Utilizing a full head of steam, Barrett got the great run off of turn two to
pull even with Coene as the pair entered turn three. Barrett executed the
winning pass and came away with the lead as the eighth lap went into the books.
Barrett was on the mark as he claimed his first win of the 2011 racing season.
David Coene was the runner-up in a great drive with Hulseapple and Jablonka and
point leader Kevin Ward completing the top five. Will Dietz, Jesse Marks, Greg
McCloskey, Darrell Ford and Chris Stevens completed the top ten.
The Healey Brothers Group Spec Sportsman main could be best explained as being
similar to that of a gunfight as a field of sharp shooters went hunting for a
victory. Danny Cross, with Dynamite in hand, led the first eight laps with Tommy
Johnson in pursuit. Cross seemed to develop a handling problem and Johnson
wasted no time to change lanes and drive into the lead. Once in front, Johnson
held the field captive as he drove away from the field and all eyes began to
focus on the Matt Hitchcock, Whitey Slavin and Kyle Rohner battle that was
brewing up like a saloon battle. Rohner kept finding the needed speed from the
bottom to work his way past his competition to move into the runner-up role but
this night belonged to Johnson as his flawless performance gave him his first
career at the Accord facility. Rohner was the runner-up with Matt Hitchcock in
third, Slavin in fourth and Phil Recchio completing the top five. Kyle VanDuser,
Danny Cross, Patrick Murphy, Kenny Hinsch and the returning Brian Krummel
rounded out the top ten.
The Lightning Sprints with 23 racers on hand, had the always quick Scott
Goodrich grabbing the lead at the star and leading through the first four laps
of the event. Fifteen year old Massachusetts hot shoe Kyle Smith found the magic
to take over the lead on lap five and led until lap nine when former champion
Clint Roehrs took a violent flip across the speedway in turn one. Peter Dance
overtook Smith on the restart to set-up a battle for the point. Rich Woods,
driving the KM Powersports entry normally driven by Matt Norrie, took over on
lap fifteen and seemed on his way to victory in a blaze of glory. The second
flip of the evening by tough luck driver JD Casazza slowed the pace on lap-18
and Wood's great drive went down the drain as he slowed to the infield. Smith
would lead lap-19 but Dance was never say die as he grabbled the lead on the
final lap to claim his first Accord Speedway main event. Smith, in a great
drive, was the runner-up with Doug Norrie racing to third place, Ralph Utter
hanging tough for fourth place money and Jon Moore completing the top five
The DC Landscaping main event for the Pro Stock racers was the Jimmy Sykes show
as the veteran Keystone State wheel twister sped into the lead at the drop of
the green flag and held off all comers as he drove to his first win of the
season and second career win at Accord in a great drive for the roses. Al
Christiana provided plenty of heat but settled for the runner-up role. John
Roese was third with Tom Vasta riding to a fourth place finish and Bill Rion
claiming fifth place money.
The Arkel Motors Pure Stock featured capped off the exciting night at Accord as
co-announcer Joel Murns led the first two laps in the main event. His luck ran
out when he slid up the raceway to allow Kyle Wright a clear lane to make the
move and into the lead. Wright led the next three laps with Joe Narok
challenging high and low to slip by. Narok took control of the event on lap six
and led the remaining distance to claim his third win of the season at Accord.
Ray Tarantino raced in a comeback performance to claim the runner-up honors and
Kyle Wright, Ryan Johnson and Jerry Craig completed the top five.
MUD PLUGS:
The raceway was once again in top-flight form as the great field of competitors
were able to utilize all of the raceway that produced three, four and sometimes
five wide racing on the high banked quarter miler. Hot laps early on produced 13
second lap times for the Modifieds with the "Lightning Sprints" clicking off
times in the 12.4 to 12.8 seconds per lap range. While the speedway dusted up
with the Modified main, the speedway stayed in great shape all night long as
Promoter Gary Palmer kept the water truck rolling in between the racing
activity. Palmer had encountered problems with both of his graders and made the
decision to purchase another grader in the middle of the week to perform his
track duties with.
Problems in hot laps caused Danny Tyler to park the racer for the evening and
utilize the second Darrell Ford racer with his top five in point status.
Modified rookie Jimmy Wells returned to action and performed well in the feature
event. Tyler Jackson saw his first action at Accord with a 750cc Lightning
Sprint and was scored in ninth position in the event. Gary Reyer also returned
to action in the Lightning Sprints but encountered problems early on. Brian
Krummel, the three time Sportsman champion at the speedway ran in the spec class
with his crate motored racer. Joe Judge, who had been out of action with a
broken wrist, returned to action and finished up with an eleventh place run in
the main event. Bob Hoar took over the controls of the Plumstead mount for the
evening. Don Smith returned to the seat of the family owned machine after a one
week showing with Lenny Helmich aboard. Greg Hocking returned to action in his
Ford powered sportsman racer. Jimmy Grippin made his first appearance of the
season as the north country racer ended up in eighth place in the feature. Mike
Jones, was a new driver on hand for the Pure Stock racers that also saw Chris
Kanuck unveil a new race car at the speedway. Dillon Johnson and crew brought
the trusty old Nova back to the speedway and much credit should go out to the
crew for the rebuild as the car really hit the Redi Rock International walls a
ton the last the car was raced. Dale Friedly returned to action for the first
since was upside down at the speedway.
Three heats and a consolation were required to set the Modified field with the
26 entries on hand. Jerry Higbie, Richard Smith and Mike Ricci captured the heat
events and Clinton Mills won the consolation event. Will Dietz and David Coene
captured the Sportsman heat runs while Matt Hitchcock and Tommy Johnson captured
the heat event wins for the Spec Sportsman division. Pro Stock heats went to Al
Christiana and Tom Vasta while Pure Stock heats were captured by Kyle Wright and
Ray Tarantino. Lightning Sprint heats were won by Doug Norrie, Rich Woods and JD
Casazza.
The seventh edition of the weekly speedway publication "The Accordian" was a
sell-out as editor Sara Fredericks condensed the material and softened the price
for the fans. The result was a sell-out but not a single soul picked Richard
Smith to be victorious and another fifty dollars will be added making next
week's "Pick a Winner" worth $200.00. Driver Tommy Johnson was the driver of the
week in the program and might have possibly been the needed karma to go out and
capture his first ever career triumph at the speedway.
Former Flemington Speedway co-announcer Glenn Todd was on hand at the speedway
as he made the trip up from the Garden State to take in and enjoy the Accord
racing action. Former Nazareth, Flemington and East Windsor speedway racer Gary
Phillips made the trip up to the speedway to see his Micro driver Kyle Rohner in
action at the speedway. Rohner will take his maiden voyage in the racer in two
weeks at the Hamlin Speedway. Racers Everett Haubrich and Larry Hendershot took
in the action at the speedway on Friday evening.

R.J. Conley, Kenny Johnson, Jamie Adams take K-C wins!
Adams Accepts $100 Challenge/Comes from Tail to Win!
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- The Conley name came back to victory lane, but this time it
was in the form of R.J. Conley, Wheelersburg, Ohio who took the AMRA Late Model
checkered flag at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway Saturday night, June 4.
Conley bested the field of 17 of the region's finest drivers before another good
crowd at the Ross County high-banks.
Both the AMRA Advanced Services Modified main and Hobby Stock main were nail
biters. High-side Invader and defending AMRA National Champion, Kenny Johnson,
Mineral Wells, WV battled hard with 9-time track champion Bob Crace, Jr. before
stretching it out for the Modified win. Jamie Adams came from last to first to
claim the Dan Reno Hobby Stock Main.
In the Dan Reno Hobby Stocks Brandon Thompson and Bruce Gray, Jr. paced the
field to flagman Daryl Owen's green flag. Perennial Champion and defending
champion Jamie Adams accepted a personal $100 challenge from owner Jeff Schrader
and gave up his starting spot on the pole to start scratch in 15th. The move set
up an exciting race and kept the fans abuzz until the final checkered flag.
With Adams starting on the tail, the early stages of the race saw Gray and Thompson battle viciously for the top spot. Tommy Mossbarger joined Brandon Mather in an equally spirited battle that often saw two pairs of cars two-wide at the front of the pack. As the halfway point of the 20-lapper approached Gray began to stretch his lead, and Adams had made it to a distant 7th when the only caution of the race waved.
The caution renewed Adams' spirit and also renewed the battle between Gray and Thompson. Gray continued to lead with Thompson at his quarters and Mather close in wake. Adams began a surge forward and in one lap passed three cars to fourth. As the 16th marker rolled around it was Gray, Thompson and Adams nearly three wide with Adams taking second a lap later, then making the race winning pass on lap 18. A large portion of the big crowd stayed to watch the challenge and was on their feet the last five laps, praising the great show of all the drivers.
Mather, Mossbarger and Tim Cutler also had good runs. Rounding out the top ten were Jamie Adams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Brandon Thompson, Brandon Mather, Tommy Mossbarger, Tim Cutler, Dan Lewis, Phil Rice, Jack Martin, and Chad Hopkins.
Said Adams, "Whew, I' tired. I don't know if I will every try that ($100 Challenge) again...It's too much work! The car was great, but the caution really helped me. Bruce and Brandon had good cars and were hard to catch. I ran a little harder tire tonight and threat may have been the difference. Thanks to Jeff for offering the challenge and for the fans who stayed to support us."
In the AMRA Late Model main, R.J. Conley and Richmond, IN driver Duane Chamberlain paced the field to the green. "I knew the start was important because Duane is a super racer and if he got out front it might have been a different story," said Conley in victory lane. Instead the two ran side-by-side into turn one with Conley winning the drag race out of turn two. Conley's words held true as Chamberlain, former champ Mark Frazier, and David Powers all stayed within striking distance. Doug Drown and Chris Wilson also established charges to the front and another former champion Jeff Houser posted his second straight ran from the back to challenge for a top five.
Greggie Oliver suffered mechanical woes and was clipped by Drown for only the second caution of the night on lap 19. On the restart, Chamberlain suffered a flat leaving Frazier, Powers, Houser, and Chris Wilson to put an assault on Conley. When the dust had settled and penalties from an after race scuffle had accrued, the top ten filtered into a R.J. Conley, Chris Wilson, David Powers, Dean Boyd, Shannon Roese, Paul Davis, Dillon Huron, Ken Howell, Duane Chamberlain, Doug Drown finale.
Although Dillon Huron was the hard-charger with a great run from 16th to
7th, Dean Boyd, Shannon Roese, and Paul Davis all charged from beyond 15th into
the top ten with credible runs.
Added Conley, "The car worked well tonight. It was a hot night and it wore me
out. I have to thank Conley Trucking, Rocket, Draime, our crew and all the fans
that come out and watch us put on a show."
Before the races, Kenny Johnson was mulling the idea of asking Jeff Schrader for a last to first challenge. "But I knew that it would be tough with all the great cars and drivers that are here at K-C. It's always tough to win at K-C even from the front."
Johnson was right! Johnson had to charge from sixth in a run that saw him pass some of the best in the open wheel ranks -- Bob Crace, Jr., Luke Jordan, Late Model ace Doug Drown, Miles Cook, and Fireball Pinkerton. Behind him was a host of more hot iron and great drivers, whittled down from a 28-car field to the starting 20.
Crace took the early lead and ran the high side and Johnson picked-em off one at a time. "In the heat Bob (Crace) beat me, but showed me the high side was fast. But I knew it would be hard to get around him, so I had to move to the bottom. It's a lot more work at the bottom," laughed Johnson.
While Crace led and Johnson charged, Brian Whiteman, the 2010 K-C champ moved up through the pack along with K-C stalwart Jeremy Rayburn. Drown got in a skirmish and had to go to the tail on lap 7, where he ignited a run from last to 5th at the finish. Shortly thereafter, Johnson blasted by Crace, setting a late-race dual between Crace and Pinkerton.
With five laps to go Pinkerton, last week's winner, bested his fellow Chillicothe friend for runner up. Rounding out the top ten were Kenny Johnson, Fireball Pinkerton, Jeremy Rayburn, Bob Crace, Jr., Doug Drown, Brian Whiteman, Luke Jordan, Steve Clemmons, John Arthurs, and Kevin Delaney. The hard chargers were Jeremy Rayburn, John Arthurs, Kevin Delaney (Advanced seven spots each), although veteran Bud Frazier may have passed the most cars during the evening. Frazier started scratch in the B and came to third, then came from 16th to 12th in the feature.
"Thanks to the Highside fans," bellowed Johnson. "Thanks to Tim (Cooper)
and Chad (Nelson) my crew, Outlaw Race Parts, Shaw Chassis and all my friends
and sponsors."
The final on track interview was completed at 9:35 p.m. as K-C staff worked hard
to beat the severe storms that hit the area shortly thereafter.
K-C will continue its 2011 season with a field of 410 Outlaw Sprints,
Advanced Services Modifieds, and Dan Reno Hobby Stocks Saturday, June 11. This
will also be Fan Appreciation Night where all fans get in for just $5 to see one
of the best weekly shows in the nation! For more information please visit

-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Billet Beats Opponents and Rain to Win the Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday Night
Newberrytown, PA (June 4, 2011) – On Saturday night, June 4, Carlisle’s Carl Billet held off many challengers to win the weather-shortened 25-lap Late Model feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. The Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors and Legends Cars feature events were postponed to a later date.
Before racing action began, many drivers and fans paid tribute to Mike Zeigler Sr. with his recent passing on Monday. His two sons, Mike Jr. and Cam as well as his daughter-in-law, Jaynee took special hot laps to pay tribute to their loss of their father.
Just as the Late Model feature race began to lineup on the track, speedway management decided to send everyone back to their pits and evacuate the grandstands when a severe thunderstorm neared the speedway. Violent lightning and thunder filled the skies. After a 30 minute delay, the drivers were called back to the speedway to begin the race.
When the race started, Carl Billet took the lead immediately from inside the second row. Charles Potts quickly fell into the runner-up spot behind Billet. A caution flag on lap 2 fell when a multi-car accident occurred in turn 1 & 2. On the restart, Gene Knaub moved into the third spot behind Potts, all the way from his 8th place starting position. Throughout the next 10 laps, last week’s feature winner Randy Christine Jr. was able to get by Knaub to claim third spot. Lightning once again began to fill the skies as the caution fell once again on lap 13. On the restart, a wild battle for the lead found Grant Adams spinning with nowhere to go and bringing out the yellow flag once again. As raindrops began to fall, officials were forced to remove the cars from the track. A steadier rain continued, forcing official to declare the race official after 13 laps were completed. Carl Billet took the win with Charles Potts in second place. Randy Christine Jr. and Gene Knaub finished third and fourth respectively. The hard charger of the event was Cam Zeigler who won the consolation event, started 21st and finished in 5th place after just 13 laps. Heat race wins went to Jason Rochelle, Larry Baer, Christine and Knaub.

Conley, Smith, Bond, and Wise take Skyline Openers
Huge Field turns out for Inaugural Run
Skyline Speedway Results FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO- A beautiful summer night and 106 CARS welcomed the start of the
2011 racing season at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway where Wheelersburg,
Ohio's Rod Conley picked up the AMRA Late Model win, veteran Danny Smith,
Chiullicothe, OH claimed the 25-lap OVSCA 410 sprint main, Andy Bond of
Coolville claimed the AMRA Modified main, Randy Wise took the Four Cylinders,
and Cole Mayle claimed the Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedges.
Fast Timer and heat winner Harold Redman, Jr. and last year's biggest winner at
Skyline, Chris Carpenter, paced the field to the green in the 25 lap AMRA Late
Model main. Chris Carpenter took the initial lead and began to pull away from
second place K-C Burdette. The race went straight green to lap-eleven when
Freddie Carpenter caught the back chute wall to bring out the caution.
In the meantime, Hot Rod Conley had passed Burdette with a hard-charging Jason
Montgomery following in tow for third. On the restart Carpenter resumed the
lead, but also last year's Harvest 50 winner Zach Dohm jumped Redman on the
start and would later be penalized two spots. Dohm went on to outdistance the
field, but the miscue would prove to be costly.
At this point the race for second was actually for first. Rod Conley and
Carpenter put on quite a show with Conley actually taking the lead on lap 21.
Dohm ran under the checkered flag first, however, Conley brought home the $1,500
cash in the Conley Trucking 71R. Said Conley, "The key to the win was Bart
Hartman helping me sort this car out all evening long. The changes we made sure
made a difference and the car hooked up nice. As far as the win goes, we will
take them any way we can get them." Conley also thanked Rocket Chassis, Conley
Trucking, and Hoosier Tire by Frye.
Rounding out the top ten were Rod Conley, Chris Carpenter, Zach Dohm, Travis
Brookover, Chris Garnes, Jason Montgomery, Harold Redman, Jr., Andy Bond, Tyler
Carpenter, Ralph Withem, and Larry Bond. The hard-charger was Tyler Carpenter in
a 17th to 8th place run.
The Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association A-main went green to checker with Jimmy
Nier jumping out to the early lead. Nier seemed invincible, but slowly the old
veteran Danny Smith kept reeling him in. Finally on lap 12 Smith drove under
Nier in turn one and zoomed to the win.
Andre Layfield battled Smith hard earlier, when Nier was on the point, but when
Smith went to the top spot Layfield was left to battle hard with Wayne McPeek.
McPeek and Layfield exchanged positions several times in the middle ten laps
before McPeek's tires went away.
Said Smith in victory lane, "The key tonight was being patient and getting to
the bottom. I got about as low as I could and the car worked well there. Thanks
to the fans for letting us put on a show and coming out and supporting us. Also,
thanks to the track and fans for passing the hat last year when I broke my back.
It was well appreciated and gave us incentive to come back and put on a good
show here tonight." Smith also thanked his crew and sponsors for making the win
possible.
Rounding out the top ten behind Danny Smith were Jimmy Nier, Andre Layfield,
Wayne McPeek, Dave Dickson, Aaron Higgins, Mark Imler, Josh Davis, Keith Baxter,
Bryce Dickson, and Nathan Skaggs. The sprint hard-charger was Josh Davis up from
15th to 8th.
In the war ridden AMRA modified main, Andy Bond leaped into first and saw Kenny
Johnson distantly in his mirror as he blitzed to a big lead and on to the big
win.
Much action took place back in the pack, where numerous battles for position and
sometimes 3-wide racing from the open wheelers thrilled the crowd. The top ten
were Andy Bond, Kenny Johnson, Derrick Smith, Robbie Evans, Bart Hartman, J.P.
Roberts, Robert Garnes, Jess Hartman, Mike McPherson, and Jeremy Jarvis. Smith
and Bart Hartman had good runs, while the hard-charger was Robbie Evans up from
15th to 4th.
Randy Wise and Tommy Adkins the top winners from last year again battled it out
for bragging rights in the Front Wheel drive Four Cylinders. Adkins and Wise
trade paint several times, but Wise was able to slide by for the win.
The top ten were Randy Wise, Tommy Adkins, Dennis Adkins, George Klintworth,
Tony Plaugher, Ken Young, Jeff Rankin, Barry Kitts, Steve Brown, and John
Rankin.
Young Cole Mayle looked like a pro in the Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedges. Mayle
claimed the win in a big way over Martin Gibson Jr., Corey DeLancey, MacKenzie
Perine, Samantha Roush, Kasey Rankin, Troy Collins, Coleton Perine, Jake Ice,
and Zack Carr. Tony Plaugher was the Four Cylinder hard charger.
Next week, June 10 is the Four Cylinder Gene Adkins Memorial and Regular Show
for all other divisions. Gates open at 4:30PM . The Four Cylinder Adkins
Memorial will pay $600 to win. June 17 is the Father's Day Special where all
Dad's get in for just $10, one of the biggest bargains of the year. The bicycle
racing has been moved to July 15. Coming June 24 is the 3rd annual Greg
Schilling Memorial for AMRA Modifieds.
