Garnes, Stinson, Johnson, Adkins Ace Skyline
Mains
Mayle 3-for-3 in Mini-Wedges
Skyline Speedway Results
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 17, 2011
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO-A nearly full moon cast a bright spot in victory lane for Evans,
WV Driver Chris Garnes who won his second consecutive AMRA Late Model main at
Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway Friday night. In the companion 410 Ohio Valley
Sprint Car Association headliner, defending champion Jimmy Stinson, Vandalia, OH
aboard the B & J Welding and Contracting Maxim pulled off the win, Kenny Johnson
aced the AMRA Modified main, and Dennis Adkins claimed the Four-Cylinder
spotlight. Ninety-two cars were entered in the event.
In the 25-lap AMRA Late Model main Chris Garnes, Evans, WV took the lead from
Jackson's Jason Montgomery on the 4th lap and never looked back, half-tracking
the field in his Swartz Extreme/Cornett Engines/ Tri-County Builders #42. Garnes
lapped all but the first seven cars in one of the most impressive runs of the
year.
For the first seven laps Montgomery stayed close, but Garnes gradually pulled off to a huge lead. Montgomery safely anchored down second, but Rod Conley and Chris Carpenter fought the entire race for third. In the end Carpenter nailed down a close third over Conley.
Jeff Wood, Athens, in his first start of the season had a good run into the top five while brothers Andy and Larry Bond traded punches for 6th and 7th as the only cars remaining on the lead lap.
Behind Garnes in the top ten were Montgomery, Chris Carpenter, Rod Conley, Jeff Wood, Andy Bond, Larry Bond, KC Burdette, Colten Burdette, and Jeff Burdette.
Said Garnes in victory lane, "I knew I had to stay down low around the tires and the car really hooked up there. Also, getting through lapped traffic was tough and fortunately I was able to hit my spots and make it through."
Making the run even more impressive was that a bloody-handed Garnes narrowly eluded disaster when one of the safety cables on his trailer snapped loose and cut both hands. "I literally had to hold on for this one," smiled Garnes.
Skyline made a special presentation to Steve McVey in memory of Steve's father, presenting a die-cast car from Wetzel's Collectibles and also signed by all the drivers. Paul Pappy McVey spent most of his life around racing, and up until last year was active in the C & S Racing Photo stand. McVey also owned race cars for many, many years. The McVey family expressed its gratitude to all fans, drivers, and track crew.
K-C Burdette was the hard-charger in a 17th to 8th place run.
On the first lap of the OVSCA sprint car main, Kory Crabtree looped it in front of the field, collecting Jamie Myers and Mark Imler who got airborne and did a slow roll over. All three cars were eliminated, but all three drivers were o.k.
Once the race resumed, pole sitter Jimmy Stinson and Jimmy Nier dueled for the top spot, but once Stinson pulled off the crossover to the high-side, it was all Stinson. Setting fast time and taking the heat win, Stinson made it a clean sweep for the night. The high-flyer lapped all but the top four cars in a spectacular rim-riding run.
Nier anchored second, while Brian Benson and Josh Davis hammered it out hard for third. Benson held third to the 14th circuit with Davis on his rear nerf every inch of the way. Finally, Davis made the pass for position, while Wayne McPeek, Aaron Higgins, and Dave Dickson rattled the bird-cages for a top five. Benson lost some ground in a near spin, allowing Dickson to make the pass late in the race, while Higgins rounded-out fourth.
Said Stinson, "I just show up. All the credit goes to Billy Jarrell and (mechanic) Gary Hall. Man, Gary had this thing hooked up tonight. He really had it going."
Stinson, as did all feature winners, received a tee-shirt and gift pack from the Dayton Auto Racing Fan (DARF) club and Hootie Gibson. Earlier on the trip down the road Stinson had called Gibson and jokingly said, "Have my Tee-shirt ready tonight."
Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Stinson, Jimmy Nier, Josh Davis, Aaron Higgins, Dave Dickson, Brian Benson, Greg Mitchell, Wayne McPeek--the West Virginia Warrior; Sam Ashworth, and Eddie Slone. Sam Ashworth was the race hard charger in a 14th to 9th place run. Greg Mitchell was a notable in a strong 11th to 7th place jaunt. Reportedly, Higgins ( who rambled from 12th to 4th) was a DNQ for not crossing the scales; never-the-less making a strong run in the race.
The AMRA Modified race was one of the best of the night. Pole-sitter Andy Bond held off Kenny Johnson for the first three markers, but Johnson made the pass on the next circuit. The battle continued in reverse order with Bond dogging Johnson in the high-speed roulette.
Robert Booger Garnes was on a rail as he dueled Jess Hartman tooth-and-nail for fourth behind a solid effort from Vince Conrad in third. Jason Brooks quickly made it a three way race for fourth in a good drive up through the pack.
Garnes rid himself of Hartman as Conrad pressed
Bond. The last seven laps of the race saw that trio duke it out with multiple
position changes, and at least three laps where Conrad found himself in a
Bond-Conrad-Garnes, three-wide sandwich. Mike McPherson moved into the mix only
to leave with motor ailments, as did AMRA point leader Doug Henry.
Johnson's Shaw Chassis 1-J zoomed on to the win. He said, "This one is for Pappy
(McVey)."
In a more jovial mood Johnson grinned as he said, "The key tonight was go fast, turn left, and don't screw up! Sometimes I'm pretty good with the last one, but tonight I was pretty good at the first two."
The top ten were Kenny Johnson, Vince Conrad, Robert Garnes, Andy Bond, Jason Brooks, Jess Hartman, Robbie Evans, Rick Venham, Jr., Frankie Roush, and Jeremy Jarvis. The race hard charger was Frankie Roush in a 18th to 9th place run.
As rains threatened, the Four Cylinder main got underway with Dennis Adkins getting the jump on Tommy Adkins. The initial spurt Dennis had at the drop of the green was just enough to keep him on the point as he waltzed to the win with cousin Tommy right at his side most of the way. They came across the line in this order: Dennis Adkins, Tom Adkins, Chris Lauer, Jeff Rankin, Ken Young, George Klintworth, Barry Kitts, and Tony Plaugher.
Cole Mayle picked up his third straight win in the Mike's Auto Body's Mini-Wedges. The finish--Cole Mayle, Coleman Evans, Tyler Evans, Hunter Teters, Corey DeLancey, Coleton Perine, Cameron Roush, Martin Gibson, Jr., Zack Carr, and Kasey Rankin

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY - Accord Speedway Turns Back Mother Nature To Present Great Midweek
Madness Program
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
A gathering of storm clouds gathered above the Accord Speedway waiting to
unleash the waterworks and did so just before six o'clock last evening and it
appeared as though Mother Nature would win out again as many of the speedway
promoters in the Northeast have been taking it on the chin much like a Rocky
Marciano right hand the Rock dubbed the "Suzie-Q" in his reign as heavyweight
champion of the world. Rather than take the ten count, Accord Speedway promoter
Gary Palmer got up off the canvas and landed some punishing blows of his own and
buckled the storms's knees and then went about the task of restoring the
facility to the pristine racing condition it was before the storms interrupted a
perfect game plan. Palmer, handling the wrecker like a Modified race car, worked
the speedway for the next couple of hours and then drew the assistance of the
hefty four cylinder divisions in the house to win back the speedway and present
a re-formatted features only program before a gracious crowd that applauded
Palmer's efforts for refusing to yield to the almighty elements. The second
event produced some new winners as well some very familiar names of the
Wednesday night shows in the past who continue to display their talents on the
Ulster County racing facility.
Kenny Phillips captured the 0-50 Quad feature for the second week in a row while
the 51-90 Quad feature was reminiscent of last week's battle royal as two of the
top racers from a season ago continued their battle with last night's show. The
"Young Gasser" Griffin Robertson and "The Little Torch" Melissa Torchio provided
the same fireworks as the pair raced side by side and nose to tail throughout
the event. The outcome came down to the final lap of the event as Torchio went
up the staircase to the outer reaches of the speedway to slip by Robertson and
go for the win in an exciting way to kick off the feature events.
Blake Hulseapple captured the Kid's Kart feature attraction for the second week
in a row. Joey Bruning made the trip of Bloomingburg a successful one as he
slipped by his teammate and early leader George Johnson at the midway point of
the event to capture his first win ever at the speedway. Johnson was the
runner-up with Lake Carmel's Randy Brundage coming from a scratch position to
finish a close third. A selection of Quads came prepared to go racing and the
returning Brandon Gates led from start to finish to capture his initial wins of
the season in two close finishes over opening night winner Richard Jarvis.
Robert Grejnecki was third in both events. Jared Palmer took advantage of a Mike
Houghtaling half spin to assert himself at the point and went on to capture his
first win of the season over Houghtaling in the Bandolero main event. Rick
Casario captured the 270 main in his Thermco sponsored racer and John Desantis
captured the Lightning Sprint portion.
New faces but familiar names arrived at the speedway for the 600 clash and "The
Rocketman" Ryan Wood was quick to the point as he led the first few laps of the
main event. "The J-Shot" Jacob Hendershot was able to find the upper seam of the
speedway to his liking as moved to the top off of turn two to pull alongside of
Wood and complete the pass as the pair of hot-rodders hit the third turn.
Hendershot went on to win the main event with Wood finishing second. "The Jet"
Justin Brewster was third with Terry Finney finishing fourth, Bruce Leote
completing the top five and "The South Canaan Sensation" Eddie Strada taking his
first competitive laps in the former Brian Davis 600 to finish in sixth
position.
Keystone stater Jim Black continued his success at the speedway as he took
advantage of a late race bobble by "The Communicator" Matthew Gaughan to claim
his second straight Wednesday night Legends victory. Gaughan, who had led the
event from the outset, recovered to finish second with newcomer Russell Sniffen
finishing third in his Sniffen Construction sponsored mount.
Slingshot racing action was once again the highlight of the evening as 2010
Empire Region Slingshot Champion Charlie Lawrence made his first appearance of
the season a good one as he grabbed the lead at the opening bell and drove his
speed buggy to a convincing win at the speedway. Two-time Jr Slingshot driving
champion "The Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby was in for a solid runner-up performance
with Tyler Pirone a close third at the wire after a splendid drive through the
field. The exciting action was non-stop from start to finish as once again the
tough field of drivers utilized every ounce of real estate on the race to the
walls speedway to put on a great show for the racing fans. Jimmy Babb raced to a
fourth place finish with Tyler Dippel rounding out the top five and Greg Hart
finishing up in sixth place..
Rookie Slingshot action found second generation hot foot Jared Labagh continuing
where he left off a week ago as he dominated the action from the drop of the
green flag to record his second consecutive win at the speedway over Matthew
Shultz and Carly Dippel. Collin Dubois was well on his way to record his first
feature win until the final turn of the Jr Slingshot main event. Dubois, who had
fron the opening bell, took the white flag in command of the event and was still
the leader at turn three when Tommy Zwart dove to the bottom of the raceway and
connected with Dubois and the pair locked together and momentarily collected
third place running "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston. "The Midget" Chris Kurtz
enjoyed the birdseye view of the commotion and drove to the top of the raceway
away from the trouble and sprinted in for the victory over the quick to recover
Johnston. Michelle Campbell was third with "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel and "The
Flash" Bobby Flood completing the top five.
Junior Four Cylinder excitement commenced with Steve Schmitz taking the lead at
the start and leading all of the way to defeat first time racer Tammy Ward for
the victory. The Four Cylinder Seniors took to the speedway with a great field
of cars on hand to test the Accord waters and it was Mike Travers grabbing the
lead at the start and then began to fend off the challenges of a half a dozen
drivers who coveted the real estate he took charge of. Robert Beach, in his BK
Logging entry, seized the opportunity to go topside and made it stick as he
swept by Travers in turn three to take over the lead and then drove to a
convincing victory in his first ride at the Accord facility. Travers held on for
runner-up honors with another newcomer Joe Smith rallying for third with a great
drive from the bottom of the speedway. Larry O'Donnell was fourth in another
great drive and substitute wheel-man Dave Demorest drove to a top five finish in
his first racing action with the four cylinders. Demorest came to the speedway
to spectate but was pressed into service when "Chi Chi" Enscarone called the
speedway and said he would be late in traveling to the speedway. Demorest, a
rookie in the Pro Stock division at the speedway took the ride on short notice
and did an admirable job during the competition for the evening. Enscarone
arrived late at the speedway and congraulated Demorest on his performance.
Mexican resident Felix Burandez, who owns the cars Enscarone competes with in
Mexico, is said to making a trip or to to the speedway in the near future to
check out the exciting racing action.
Midweek Madness will continue from June 22nd until August 31st every Wednesday
evening. Gates open at the speedway at 5 PM with Hot Laps scheduled for 6:45.
Racing is to start at 7:15 PM. Admission for the Wednesday shows is just $5.00
and the great concession stand is open throughout the racing card.
Friday night racing at Accord runs from April through September with six great
divisions going to war on the Accord high banks. This week Healey Bothers Group
will serve as the headline sponsor for the evenings events and will feature the
five regular divisions at the speedway plus the return of the Lightning Sprints
division and a qualifying event for the Lebanon Valley/Accord Speedway Challenge
for the Spec Sportsman Racers. Admission for the great racing action remains the
same from a season ago as Adults (12+) will be $12.00; Children (11 and under)
will be $3.00. The Family Value Pack that was met with much success last season
is once again offered and is: 2 Adults, 2 Children, and $20.00 in food vouchers
for $40.00, a savings of $10.00 to the consumer. Pit Gates open at the speedway
at 4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5. Hot laps kick off at 6:30 and the racing
is slated to start at 7 PM.
Big offerings are in store for the racing fans in the upcoming weeks at the
speedway. July 1st will find the fireworks expert "Wild Bill" back in the house
to unleash his special brand of magic to the skies over the Accord facility with
his one of a kind light show and fireworks extravaganza. The event will mark the
eleventh time that Wild Bill will be making his dynamite appearance at the
speedway. The now famous Chicken BBQ will compliment the speedway's salute to
Independence Day. Come early and enjoy the always spectacular racing and the
great food the speedway is noted for.

Rick Williams Whips Up Win at Beckley
Claims Federated Auto Parts 35
Ken Schrader Falls Short in 2nd/Wins at Natural Bridge
By Scott Wolfe
BECKLEY, WV- With the exception of NASCAR star Kenny Schrader's fast time,
local Beckley area hot shoe Rick Williams scored the clean sweep by claiming
the qualifying heat, fast car dash, and edging the hard-charging Schrader in
the Federated Auto Parts 35 for AMRA (American Motor Racing Association)
Road Warriors Friday night June 10. The event was sponsored by Federated
Auto Fisher Auto Parts with contingencies provided by Eagle Coal, Gerald
Stokes/West Star Management of Beckley, WV and Vondy Brunty.
Williams bested some of the best cars in open wheel racing, including
Schrader, who besides his NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World
Truck series events, races up to 100 times a year--"where ever and whenever"
on dirt tracks across the nation. Cars from four different states were in
the line-up.
The amicable Schrader had a meet-and-greet autograph session prior to the
races, then buckled up to set fast time, setting the stage for Williams'
heroics the rest of the night. Williams won his heat over Schrader, and then
did a repeat in the fast car dash, which put Williams on the pole for the
feature. Williams was the pace setter and Schrader the chaser most of the
35-lap event.
Various battles took place throughout the pack on the well-prepared 3/8 mile
oval. Deana Groves and Doug Henry battled wildly much of the race with Brett
Hamilton making a strong run for the top three in sometimes 3-wide fashion.
Joe Meadows, Vince Conrad and Will Rowe were among those coming from deep in
the pack, while Joe Hamon and Joe Cox dueled for a shot at breaking into the
top five.
When all was said and done, Williams pulled into victory lane amid a huge
roar from the hometown crowd. Rounding out the top ten behind local star
Williams were Schrader, Groves, Henry, Hamilton, Meadows, Hamon, Cox,
Conrad, and Rowe.
Other drivers of note putting on a great show were 11th through 20th, Eric
Hatfield, Gary Conner up from the back of the pack, Ryan Williams, Keith
Bills, Mike Duncan, Buddy Brogan, Jason Cochran, James Rhodes, Kevin
Collins, and Steve Stover.
Schrader, Wallace Headline Special Event at Natural Bridge Speedway
(Thanks to Randy Walters for his contribution to the AMRA release)
LEXINGTON, VA- Excitement filled the air this past Saturday night, June 11
at Natural Bridge Speedway as the speedway hosted Federated Auto Parts
night. As part of the special event, NASCAR stars Ken Schrader and Kenny
Wallace were on hand to sign autographs and to compete in the American Motor
Racing Association open wheel modified feature event. Both Schrader and
Wallace greeted fans and signed autographs before the night’s racing action
got underway. Mother Nature threatened the event with an early afternoon
shower over the speedway, but track officials went to work on the speedway
and provided the fans and competitors with an excellent racing surface.
The track was prepared and the nights events started @ 6:30 with hot lap
sessions with transponders qualifying everyone and lining up for heat races
by 7:30. The LM feature was on the race track at 8:30PM followed by the AMRA
Road Warrior Modified Dash sponsored by Erwin Racing Supply. At 9:00PM 20 of
the finest AMRA Modifieds including Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace lined
up for the 35 lap Federated Auto Part 35-lap main event.
Four laps into the feature Mother Nature opened up and dumped a ton of rain
on the track raining for around 15 minutes soaking everything. AMRA and
track officials and promoters Larry and Karey Ramsey consulted with AMRA
President Larry Keefer and the decision was made to give it a shot and try
and get the track ran back in. In less than one hour and fifteen minutes the
very efficient track crew had the racing surface ran in and super tacky.
As excitement built, the feature fired up at 10:45PM and was over just after
the curfew at 11:00PM.
Oh, what a race it was! Unlike any open wheel event on the well-manicured
dirt, drivers were flying wide open all the way around the 3/8 mile
speedplant. Kenny Schrader was hounded by past AMRA Road Warrior Champion
Doug Henry who hounded Schrader much of the race.
Twenty AMRA modifieds drivers were on hand for the 35 lap, $1500 to win
special event. At the conclusion of qualifying, Ken Schrader ripped off a
lap of 17.369 at 78.761 mph to stake claim to the number one spot. Kenny
Wallace was the second fasted qualifier and Joe Meadows of Beckley, WV had
the third fastest time. Under AMRA rules, the top four positions are
inverted for the preliminary heat races. Although Schrader, Wallace, and
Meadows had to start fourth in their heat races all three rallied to win the
preliminary events. The top two drivers from each heat race transferred to a
dash for cash to set the starting lineup for the 35 lap feature event. Kenny
Wallace picked up the win in the dash for cash over Schrader and earned the
right to start on the pole of the feature.
The AMRA modifieds took to the speedway for their 35 lap main event. The two
Federated Auto Parts cars started on the front row with Kenny Wallace
getting the jump over his teammate Schrader. With just a handful of laps in
the books the skies opened up and heavy rain fell, setting up the rain
delay.
NASCAR star Kenny Wallace, who was helping roll the track back in crashed
his machine on the slimy surface. Wallace’s misfortune gave the lead to Ken
Schrader for the restart. Both man and machine were the class of the field
throughout the remaining laps, and Schrader was never again seriously
challenged for the top spot. Doug Henry chased Schrader most of the event
before losing the runner-up spot to Joe Meadows with just two laps to go.
Meadows found speed at the end of the event, but it was too- little too late
and Schrader celebrated in victory lane.
The top five AMRA finishers were Schrader, Meadows, Henry, Russell Erwin,
and David Parker.
Due to Natural Bridge Speedway’s curfew restrictions, the All-American
feature was postponed.
Natural Bridge Speedway will be back in action next Saturday night with the
Don Pugh Memorial, a forty lap street stock special event paying $400 to the
winner. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with the driver’s meeting at 6:00 p.m.,
and on-track activities beginning at 6:30 p.m. Fans may visit

Tony Knowles Gets First Win of 2011 Season at Dixie
Tyrone, Georgia (06/15/11) – To say that the start to the 2011 season has
been frustrating for Tony Knowles would be a huge understatement, but he
turned things around on Saturday as he drove his #26 RSD Enterprises/SAE
Parts/Rocket/Custom Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first feature win
of the season.
Tony was finally able to get over the hill in 2011 as he claimed his first
win of the season on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Georgia).
He started the night by setting the second fastest time to earn the outside
front row starting spot for the main event. He would make his way to the
lead at the job of the green flag and never looked back on his way to the
feature win, which came over Michael Page and Jordy Nipper. Full results are
available at www.DixieSpeedway.com.
Knowles commented, "This season has just been a nightmare so far with random
part failures and all-around bad luck. To be able to get this first win
means a lot to me and the team, and I think it's something we can definitely
build on!"
Tony will return to action with the Southern All Stars Dirt Series this
weekend with a $5,000 to win/$300 to start event at Smoky Mountain Speedway
(Maryville, Tennessee) on Saturday night. Knowles is currently tied for 6th
in the latest series' standings, and will be looking to make up ground this
Saturday. For more information on the event, please visit
