and 6/8-Cylinder Enduros for Winter Racing Action!
“Frostbite 6” Ahead for Mountain Speedway
By: Gene Ostrowski
December 18, 2011
As the holiday season approaches, racers are already feeling the itch to get
back behind the wheel. However, Jack Frost normally brings the season to a halt
by this time of the year, but that’s not the case for Mountain Speedway, as the
track once again begins to prepare for the “Frostbite” winter enduros.
The first event of the 2012 racing season would kick off on Saturday, January 7,
as the celebration of the New Year continues with the "Frostbite 6" enduro-racing
event.
The Mountain Madness Enduro Series schedule will comprise of several events
throughout the course of the season and the 6th annual Frostbite enduro will be
the first show to highlight the 2012-racing schedule.
Run like a true to form enduro, the Mountain Madness Enduro Series features
relatively inexpensive "bone stock" automobiles for low budget racers, helping
make enduro racing more affordable for beginners and masters alike. Each of the
two divisions have a three wide rolling start. Without any yellow flags, only
red flags will be thrown for serious incidents, or if a driver is in a dangerous
situation on the speedway.
Sam Ryan and Tom Szoke took victories in the 5th annual event and may be in
action to score the repeat victories.
With two divisions running 100-laps each in “Frostbit 6”, race fans that are
looking to fuel their racing appetites will once again have the opportunity to
do so at Mountain Speedway in January.
The 2011 enduro rules will apply for the Frostbite event and they can be viewed
by logging on to
www.mountainspeedway.com. The speedway office can be reached at
570-384-3215 and 570-788-7544 on race days. Also, the 2012 regular season
schedule will be released in early January.
The Mountain Madness enduro events are typically held rain, snow or shine.
However, if there is severe weather or very deep snow, the show may be
rescheduled.
The pit area will open at 10 AM and the grandstands will be open at 12 noon. The
first enduro event is slated to take the green flag at 12:30 PM. Pit admission
is $30 and the enduro registration fee is $50.
Mountain Speedway is just minutes from Hazleton, PA, located on St. John’s Road,
between Routes 93 and 309. Grandstand admission for all regular events is just
$10 for ages 11 and older. Children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for
free.
Please like Mountain Speedway on Facebook or visit

Chub Frank Can’t Wait For 2012 Dirt Late Model Season To Arrive
BEAR LAKE, PA – Dec. 14, 2011 – The start of the 2012 dirt Late Model season
can’t come soon enough for Chub Frank.
Coming off an ’11 campaign that he closed on an encouraging upward trend, the
veteran star from Bear Lake, Pa., is “hammer-down” working on his Corry
Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* machines in preparation for
the upcoming racing wars.
“Usually by the end of a season I’m ready for it to be over,” said Frank, whose
illustrious racing career has spanned more than 30 years. “But this year is
different. I feel like the changes we made late in the season really helped pick
our program up, so I wish we could’ve kept racing.
“I’m ready to get going again now. I’m pumped about what we can do in 2012.”
The renewed fire in Frank’s gut comes largely as the result of a change he made
under the hood. Just before Labor Day he began using new Roush-Yates engines and
his performance – especially his qualifying efforts – noticeably improved. His
end-of-the-year surge included his biggest victory of 2011, a $13,000 United
Late Model Series score on Sept. 25 at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport,
Pa.
With powerful Roush-Yates Chevy and Ford engines at his disposal for ’12, the
popular driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ is confident that he’ll return to his
vintage form.
“I’m really looking forward to next season,” said Frank, who closed his ’11
schedule on Nov. 13 with an 11th-place finish in the unsanctioned National 100
at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. “I think we’re really going
to be able to qualify better with these Roush-Yates motors, and that’s gonna
make a big difference. We’ve been playing catch-up too much lately because we’ve
gotten behind in qualifying.”
Frank put together a respectable 2011 season, highlighted by his fifth-place
finish in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series points standings. While he fell
short of reaching Victory Lane on the national tour for the second consecutive
season, he recorded five top-five (including two runner-up outings) and 17
top-10 finishes in 32 events en route to his first top-five placing in the
points battle since 2008. He amassed $93,185 in earnings on the series,
including his $30,000 points-fund check.
Frank did earn three feature wins away from the World of Outlaws circuit in
2011, adding a pair of regular-show triumphs at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver,
Pa., to his marquee checkered-flag at McKean County. Overall he entered 50
events and registered 14 top-five and 26 top-10 finishes. He failed to finish
just four of the 42 feature races he started.
Frank and his team plan to kick off their 2012 schedule on Feb. 10-11 in the
World of Outlaws’s season-opening, $20,000-to-win ‘Winter Freeze’ event at
Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., before heading farther south for action
at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. (WoO Late Model Series on Feb. 16-18) and
Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. (DIRTcar UMP shows on Feb. 20, 21, 22
and 24 and WoO Late Model Series programs on Feb. 23 and 25).
Frank, who will celebrate his 50th birthday on Jan. 22, expects to once again
focus his efforts on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the tour he’s
followed religiously since 2004 (his best points finish is second, in 2007).
He’s hoping to see the series grow significantly in 2012 – in fact, he’s
challenging the World of Outlaws marketing team to make that happen.
“We’ve been running the World of Outlaws since the World Racing Group started it
and we definitely want to do it again (in ’12), but I would also like to see the
series get bigger and better,” said Frank. “For the last four or five years I’ve
been hearing from people in the World Racing Group marketing department that
they’re close to signing a title sponsor, but nothing has ever happened. I know
it’s not easy to find sponsors, but I feel like they’ve had plenty of time and
they need to start producing some positive things for the series on the
marketing side.
“I know that if the World Racing Group marketing department steps up their
program and brings more companies and manufacturers into the series, then it
would help our program. We’re out there doing our job promoting the series, and
I’m hoping the World Racing Group marketing team will do their job so the series
will grow and become more attractive for everyone.”

Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, Horton

Hubbard, Logan, and Edwards Using Speedweeks to Build for 2012
Seaford, Delaware (12/12/11) With silly season drawing to an end, Super Late
Model driver, Austin Hubbard, has officially inked his deal for the 2012
campaign as veteran, team owner, Tim Logan of Cattlesburg, Kentucky will lead
him into the 2012 Speedweeks.
Hubbard notes, "Running our family program for another 80 race season, as we did
in 2009, is hard on our family and business, so I'm excited to be driving for
Tim Logan. My family consists of farmers and truckers," Hubbard says with a
laugh. "Tim Logan's family consists of racers. Racing is Tim's business as he is
a chassis and a part's dealer, who has a loyal following. This is a perfect fit
for me. Driving for a car owner that works on race cars will definitely be fun.
I am confident this deal will work out for the whole season, but we've all
initially agreed to run 15-20 races to test the water and then go from there."
Over the last three years Hubbard has raced almost 250 shows with crew chief,
Robby Allen, by his side, but that will change for the 2012 campaign as Allen
assumes a position with another team, and Hubbard welcomes new crew chief,
Randall Edwards.
Austin notes, "Robby is family to me, and we will always be close friends. He
wanted a break from the national grind and wants to be home with his wife and
kids more, and I can definitely understand that. Robby now has a deal that is
going to make his ideal situation happen, and we are both happy for each other's
2012 plans. Working with Tim, Randall and Nick (Hoover) will be great also. Tim
always fields great cars and has always kept (Steve) Francis fast, whenever he
has driven the team's cars. Randall (former Darrell Lanigan' crew chief), and I
have pitted next to each other probably over hundred times. We already have a
great working relationship, and Nick (Hubbard's former Beitler crewman and
roommate) will be there working hard as always. I can't think of a better group
of guys to hit the road with for 2012."
In regards to preparing for the 2012 campaign, Austin comments, "Nick and I are
getting my shop and equipment ready in Delaware as a backup plan, and then we
are going to head down to Kentucky in a couple of weeks to help Tim get ready to
start the season. Randall is splitting his time with Texas' driver, Morgan
Bagley, and our team. I'm looking forward to pitting with Morgan at the events
they run. He did a great job at Charlotte and I think Randall has a great plan
for both of us in 2012."
As far as his plans for the 2012 season, Hubbard says, "Like I said at PRI a few
weeks ago, I am running the whole Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) tour
in a black #11 and will be competing for Rookie of the Year Honors. Running for
Rookie of the Year against drivers like Jonathan Davenport is going to be a tall
order, and I can only promise that I'm going to give it everything that I have
on and off the track. I know it takes great people and equipment and that's what
I think we have put together with this team."
Hubbard concludes by saying that "I can only do this because of great supporters
such as Trinity Transport, Virginia Motor Speedway, Salisbury Door and Hardware,
Campbell's Collision, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Sunoco Fuel, and Schaeffer Oil.
Tim and I are currently working out the rest of our sponsors and product
supporters as we look forward to new and old relationships."
A redesigned website reflecting the new team is scheduled to launch in the
coming weeks, so please keep your browsers locked to
www.AustinHubbard.com for the
latest team news and information.

Skyline Speedway
Champions Honored
First Class Awards Fete Honors Weekend Warriors
By Scott Wolfe
MARIETTA, OHIO- Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio held its third annual banquet
under the ownership of Billy Jarrell at the Comfort Inn, Marietta, Ohio. Along
with Skyline awards, members of the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association top ten
were honored. Nearly 300 people enjoyed the 1st class awards presentation and
fine meal prepared by Blacksmith Barbeque, the motel’s restaurant. Guests, once
again were admitted free, compliments of Billy Jarrell and Skyline Speedway.
A social hour preceded the banquet, while entertainment was provided by Nate DiRuzza. The Welcome was given by master of ceremonies Scott Wolfe, while driver Robbie Evans gave the invocation. The five-course dinner was served by the Blacksmith Barbeque staff, followed by the evening's award presentations.
Wolfe thanked all in attendance for a great year and welcomed guests and sponsors as well as the Skyline Speedway staff, fans, drivers, and crews.
The top five in each Skyline class was recognized with a trophy and significant cash and contingencies. First, the AMRA Modified Drivers were honored. The top five drivers honored were champion Andy Bond, Rick Venham, Jr., Kenny Johnson, Vince Conrad, and Robbie Evans. Bond received a new Bad Fast Chassis for his efforts. L & M Performance of Bethel, OH upped the champion's prize by contributing front and rear suspension parts if Bond agrees to run the chassis in 2012. Bond took up the offer and went home with one of the evening's best rewards.
Next, Late Model drivers were honored. Chris Garnes was the 2011 track champion, his second championship, in as many years. Garnes joked to master car builder Audie Swartz, "Do I get the same deal Andy got?" Garnes will receive a new Swartz Extreme Chassis for his efforts. Garnes won 2011's championship in a Swartz Extreme Chassis that he won as a result of being the 2010 champ. Swartz Chassis is located in Minford, Ohio.
Behind Garnes in the points were Ralph Withem, Freddie Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, and Larry Bond. All went home with at least $500 in prizes.
Jimmy Stinson was then recognized as the Skyline Speedway champion for the second year in a row. Stinson edged out teammate Aaron Higgins also from the B&J Welding and Contracting stable, 711 points to 693. Josh Davis was third, Dave Dickson fourth, and Brian Benson fifth.
Todd Frye of Hoosier Ohio Valley and co-organizer of the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association then welcomed members of that elite organization and gave a summary of the 2011 season. Frye recognized sponsors of the series and thanked all the drivers that supported the series over the last couple of seasons. As Wolfe announced the top guns in the series, Frye and OVSCA founder Billy Jarrell presented drivers with their checks and gift certificates. Over $15,000 in cash prizes and several thousand dollars of contingencies went to the drivers in attendance.
Jimmy Stinson, Vandalia, Ohio was then called to the podium a second time, this time to be crowned as the OVSCA Champion for the second year in a row. Second in the standings through tenth included Josh Davis, Aaron Higgins, Dave Dickson , Chris Myers, Andre Layfield, Wayne McPeek, Brian Benson, Mark Imler, and Greg Mitchell. All of the top ten drivers' names were put in a hat for a chance at the Maxim Chassis from Fisher Performance and Rick Susong. Ironically, Stinson's name was drawn, and he went home with the new chassis. Sponsors of the series include R2C Performance, Saldana Racing Products, Weld Racing, ASI Racewear, Bazelle Fuels, Outerwears, All-Star Performance, Hoosier Tire, Hoosier Ohio Valley, and Poske's Performance Parts.
Several drums of fuel and Hoosier Tires went to racers as door prizes. Sprint driver Greg Mitchell passed along his winning drum of fuel to grassroots veteran Benny Hickel. The gesture was a kind effort in support of a fellow racer.
Over one-thousand dollars in door prizes went to those in attendance.
Billy Jarrell
thanked banquet organizer and Track Promotions Director Katie Dickson for her
efforts in putting together another successful banquet. Special recognition went
to Angie and Mike Haught, longtime Skyline employees, scorers Alice Keefer and
Delores Freshour, and flagman Todd Gorrell. Special Thanks was given to Wetzel's
Racing Collectibles, who presented many of the door prizes; C & S Racing Photo,
Poske's Performance Parts, Hoosier Ohio Valley, Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club,
Rock Auto Racing Parts, Racers for Christ, ASI Racewear, Bazell Race Fuels,
Sprintco, Outerwears Performance Products, R2C Performance, Saldana Racing
Products, Weld Racing, Comfort Inn, Danielle Smith, and Nate DiRuzza. Racing
photo packages and trophies were in part sponsored by C&S Racing Photo.

"These are real dollar savings for the AMRA racers and nice discounts on products that every racer uses" said longtime AMRA supporter Dave Poske. "In addition to the many fine prizes given to the members who placed in the top 35 in modified points and the top 15 in late model points several racers who did not make it into a paying position, but who were supportive and consistent in weekly participation were awarded product certificates this year."
"Bigger and better things are planned in 2012 for the AMRA as the AMRA is actively seeking additional sponsorship for the series." said Larry Keefer, President of the AMRA.
Over 325 racers and guests were in attendance for the elaborate fete which featured a Ham and steak meal, side dishes, and desserts prepared by the resort staff. Driver Robbie Evans gave the invocation after a welcoming address by Master of Ceremonies Scott Wolfe, also the Director of Racing Operations for the AMRA.
Various elements of the racing community were recognized, including sponsors, drivers, race teams, owners, track owners and promoters, and racing fans.
Dave Poske of Poske's Performance Parts recognized the sponsors of the series and the importance of each sponsor's contribution to the AMRA and its members. "There would be no AMRA without the sponsors," noted Poske. "It takes a lot of dedication, hours of hard work, hundreds of man hours talking to sponsors and track promoters on the telephone and in person to make an organization like this work. But most of all it takes prize money and contingencies to attract the quality of drivers that we see here tonight."
Poske listed each sponsor and the contribution they made to the series, while also praising participating track promoters and track owners for support of the AMRA. The longtime Parkersburg businessman also recognized AMRA owners and CEO's Larry and Alice Keefer, who run the organization with compensation solely for the benefit of the racers in the four-state AMRA governing area.
Also, recognized were Wolfe and Hoosier Ohio Valley director Todd Frye.
Next, each of the top 35 drivers in the Malta Windows and Doors modified series were honored. Each was given the opportunity to speak on behalf of their team and sponsors. Not only did the top ten receive cash prizes but also contingencies from Aero Wheels, KRC - Kluhsman Racing Components, Wrisco Aluminum, Sunoco Race Fuels, and jackets from Hoosier Tire. Many other contingencies from the sponsors listed below were awarded throughout the evening. Late Model driver Larry Bond drew the winning ticket for the Lincoln Welder from Lincoln Electric.
Kenny Johnson received $5,000 for winning the national series and was presented his National Award from Wade Benjamin from Malta Windows and Doors. Johnson edged Andy Bond for the title by just 17 points, 1240 to 1223 points.
Master of Ceremonies Wolfe noted that both portions of the modified series went right down to the final night of racing to determine a champion. "This highlights the effectiveness and the competitiveness of the AMRA. Any time you have a point’s race going right down to the wire, it is good for the fans, good for the AMRA, and good for everyone involved."
Next, Cooter Thorne was presented the 2011 Carthage Auto Parts Rookie of the Year Award. A very tight race between the top three rookies also went right down to the wire with Thorne winning out over Jason Brooks and Kyle Bond.
After a brief intermission, Late Model Drivers 1-15 were awarded their prizes. The series ran this season without full sponsorship and is looking for a national sponsor. One of the main sponsors of the series was Tru-Tech Customs in Parkersburg, WV. Chris Garnes of Evans, West Virginia claimed the Late Model crown and winner's share of the prize money worth $2,500.
Doug Henry was crowned as the 2011 Road Warrior Challenge champion after a year-long battle with Deana Groves. The race went right down to the final night of racing at Chillicothe's K-C Raceway (now Atomic Speedway). Henry won the title 448 points to 427. The top five Road Warrior drivers went to the podium to receive their honors with Henry picking up the winner's share of $1,400.
Track champions were also recognized: Late Models-Chris Garnes, I-77 and Skyline; Rick Williams, Beckley; Delmas Conley, K-C Raceway; Jeff Burdette, Ohio Valley; Modifieds-Andy Bond, Skyline; Dave Pinkerton, K-C; Steve Stover, Beckley; Vince Conrad, I-77; Jeremy Blake, Ohio Valley; Eric Hatfield, Thunder Mountain; Louie Krushansky, Elkins; and at Princeton, Jason Cochran.
Alice Keefer presented a slide presentation that summarized the 2011 racing season and honored the AMRA champions as well as the AMRA track champions. Keefer then announced several rules changes for the 2012 racing season, but noted that mainly the rules were just clarifications and that the rules generally will be the same. There will be a 50 pound weight break for running steel only shocks.
Wolfe concluded the event with the benediction.

USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series
RICHARD VANDERWEERD EARNS USAC WEST COAST 360 SPRINT TITLE
By Lance Jennings
SANTA MARIA, CA – NOVEMBER 28, 2011... It was a banner year for the USAC West
Coast 360 Sprint Car Series and when the point chase was over, Visalia's Richard
VanderWeerd added his name to the champion's list. In all, seventy-four
different drivers took the green flag with eight scoring feature wins in the
tough 16-race schedule. The average car count for the young sanctioning body was
twenty-three, up fifteen percent from the previous season.
Consistency was the key for VanderWeerd in his quest for the championship. The
20-year old driver claimed the point lead on July 16th at Hanford after winning
the make up feature and finishing third in the Jim Evett Memorial. The pilot of
Ron VanderWeerd's #10 VanderWeerd Construction / Battery Worx Maxim remained
poised and led the rest of the way to earn his first sprint car title. Richard
led the series with three Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards (tied) and
fourteen top-10 finishes. In addition, VanderWeerd had three heat race
victories, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award and seventeen feature laps led.
Ryan Bernal of Hollister took the series by storm by finishing second in the
points, earning Rookie of the Year honors, and claiming the Santa Maria Track
Championship. The 18-year old driver grabbed the point lead on April 9th at
Santa Maria, but engine problems while leading late in the Tulare feature on
April 30th cost him the top spot. The driver of Danny Olmstead's #11D S&S
Automotive / Dorso's Automotive Maxim reclaimed the lead at Tulare on May 14th,
but bad luck struck again at Hanford on July 16th. Ryan rebounded by winning the
next three main events and finished the year leading the series with five
feature wins, three Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards (tied), and 153 feature
laps led. In addition, Bernal had four heat race victories and thirteen top-10
finishes on the season.
San Martin's "Wide Open" Wes Gutierrez put together a solid season and finished
third in the point standings. The 20-year old driver won his second career
series main event by claiming the Jim Turner Memorial on September 20th at
Hanford's Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway. The pilot of the WG Motorsports' #007
ButlerBuilt / Competition Suspension Inc. DRC led all drivers on the circuit
with five heat race victories on the year. In addition, Gutierrez had thirteen
top-10 finishes and 42 feature laps led to his credit.
Jace VanderWeerd of Visalia scored fourth in the point chase. The twin brother
of the newly crowned champion won his third career series feature at Santa Maria
on April 9th and briefly led the championship hunt early in the season. Driving
Ron VanderWeerd's #88 VanderWeerd Construction / Battery Worx Maxim, last
season's USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year was second in points to his brother until
late in the schedule. VanderWeerd closed out 2011 with one Sander Engineering
Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, twelve top-10 finishes, one Keizer
Wheels Hard Charger Award, and fourteen feature laps led.
Rancho Palos Verdes' Dennis Howell had a strong season and claimed fifth in the
final standings. The 24-year old hard charger did not win a feature, but was a
force to be reckoned with throughout 2011. Piloting Dennis Howell Sr.'s #62 San
Pedro Auto Body / Howell-Meyer Racing Maxim, the USAC Western Midget Series
graduate had his best finish with a second place at Tulare on April 30th and
Hanford on September 24th. Howell led the series with two Keizer Wheels Hard
Charger Awards (tied) and had one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, three heat
race victories, twelve top-10 finishes, and twenty-three feature laps led on the
year.
"Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton finished sixth in the championship chase.
The 39-year old veteran driver raced to the Jim Evett Memorial victory on July
16th at Hanford's Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway. Driving Junior Bowman's #2
Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance Bullet, Faria had a tough
season and ended his 2011 campaign with two Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards,
four heat race victories, eight top-10 finishes, and thirty-two feature laps
led.
Finishing seventh in the final point standings was Gardena's Greg Alexander. The
22-year old driver did not win a main event during the 2011 campaign, but was in
the thick of the championship battle. Piloting the Chuck Tyler Motorsports' #72
Barnes Systems Inc. / Amsoil Maxim, Alexander recorded his best finish on March
19th with a third at Tulare's Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway. Greg
closed out the season with one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, two heat race
victories, eight top-10 finishes, and six feature laps led.
T.J. Smith of Fresno placed eighth in the championship points. The 21-year old
driver had a tough year behind the wheel of Steve LeGras' #14 UHL Rubber / S&S
Automotive Maxim and did not win a feature. Last year's Santa Maria Track
Champion scored a runner-up finish on two occasions, April 9th at Santa Maria
and August 20th at Hanford. In 2011, Smith had one Sander Engineering Fast Time
Award, three heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and thirty feature laps
led to his credit.
Finishing ninth in the point standings was Hanford's Justyne Hamblin. Driving
the JH Motorsports' #8 Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino / Dias Law Firm SpeedTech,
the 21-year old driver did not win a main event. The 2009 Series Champion
recorded her best finish on April 27th with a third place run at Santa Maria
Speedway. Hamblin ended the year with four heat race victories, one Keizer
Wheels Hard Charger Award, and seven top-10 finishes.
Bud Kaeding of Campbell scored tenth in the point chase. The 31-year old veteran
driver won four main events on the year, including Tulare's Chris & Brian Faria
Memorial on April 16th and the Pombo-Sargent Classic on May 14th. Piloting
Junior Bowman's #29 Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance Maxim, the
3-time USAC Silver Crown Champion was a threat to win at every race he entered.
Kaeding had one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, two heat race victories,
eight top-10 finishes, and 81 feature laps led in limited appearances.
Clovis' Peter Murphy and "Showtime" Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria also scored
feature wins in 2011. Murphy had two victories, first in the Eberhardt
Motorsports #4 entry on April 30th at Tulare. On October 15th, Peter won the
non-point Cotton Classic at Hanford behind the wheel of Tom Tarlton Sr.'s pink
#21 "Breast Cancer Awareness" car. Murphy also drove Rusty Carlile's #51 machine
and finished 16th in the final points. Sheridan piloted the Kittle Motorsports'
#18 entry to the Bud Stanfield Memorial win at his hometown track on September
17th. Claiming 14th in the standings, "Showtime" also competed in Warren
Dorathy's #21 sprinter.

Mike Marlar Concludes 2011 with Second Place Finish in Turkey 100
Winfield, Tennessee (11/28/11) – Mike Marlar entered his final event of the 2011
season over the weekend as he powered his #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket Crate
Late Model to a second place finish in the 11th Annual Turkey 100.
The team traveled to Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Georgia) for the 11th
Annual $20,000-to-win, Turkey 100 as Mike took part in a Crate Late Model event
for the second straight week. Sixty-one entries were on hand for the program,
and on Friday night he would finish fourth in his heat race, but with only the
top two cars moving on to the feature, he was forced to run a b-main on Saturday
evening. Saturday's program would see him win a b-main to lock into the
fifteenth starting spot for the feature event, which was shortened to 50 laps.
He would methodically work his way through the pack in the main event, and with
ten laps remaining he moved into the second position. Over the closing laps he
would apply heavy pressure to William Thomas for the lead, but was unable to
make the pass. When the checkered flag flew Mike was credited with a strong,
second place finish behind race winner, Thomas. Full results are available at
www.DirtOnDirt.com.
It was a great way for Mike to conclude his 2011 season, and he would like to

William Thomas Claims $20k Payday in Turkey 100
Phenix City, Alabama (11/28/11) - William Thomas entered the 11th Annual Turkey
100 over the weekend at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Georgia), and when the
checkered flag dropped on the finale he had claimed the biggest win of his
career, a $20,000 payday behind the wheel of his #22 Extreme Power Sports/Zaxbys/Scorpion
Crate Late Model!
Sixty-one of the nation's top Crate Late Model pilots converged at the Georgia,
3/8 mile oval for the big event, and Thomas started the weekend by setting fast
time in qualifications, and then backed it up by winning the first heat race to
earn the pole position for the feature event, which was shortened to 50 laps. As
the race went green Thomas would bolt to the lead and would maintain the top
spot during the first half of the caution-plagued feature. Just as it looked
like William would be able to cruise to the easy win, Mike Marlar moved into the
second spot with ten laps remaining, and applied heavy pressure to Thomas for
the closing laps of the feature. However, William was able to hold him off as he
claimed the biggest win of his career, which also marked the 11th triumph of the
2011 season. He was followed across the finish line by Marlar, Brandon Overton,
Chip Brindle, and Brian Connor. Full results are available at
www.DirtOnDirt.com.
The event marked the final event of the 2011 season for the team. During the
course of the season William won eleven features and claimed 30 top-five
finishes as well as 38-top-ten finishes in 46 starts. William would like to
thank all of his sponsors and fans for their support during the 2011 season as
he now looks forward to a busy 2012. Stay tuned to

competing for the AMRA championship. Most of all, I think it will stabilize our
car counts for the quality of shows we want to put on for our fans.”
Saturday, the AMRA will pay out over $30,000 plus contingencies to the top 35
drivers in National Points, and nearly $12,000 in Late Model point’s money. It
also will honor eleven track champions at participating tracks. In 19 seasons,
the AMRA has distributed over $650,000 in points money to its drivers.
“It is a great honor to have Jackson County Speedway join the AMRA family,” said
AMRA president Larry Keefer. “Brad went out on a limb to start a race track in
tough economic times. I admire his determination, and want the AMRA to help him
keep racing alive in Southern Ohio. I think this will be a great addition for
our drivers, our organization, and Jackson County Speedway.”
“I would like to welcome Brad and Jackson County Speedway to the AMRA family,”
said Director of Racing Operations Scott Wolfe. “Jackson County Speedway is a
hidden gem. Brad and his team have done a lot of work there and are determined
to make a positive impact in the racing community. Having brought the track back
to life is a monumental accomplishment, and having Jackson County in the AMRA is
a major anchoring point for both the speedway and the AMRA.”
The close proximity to Atomic Speedway now gives AMRA drivers at Atomic Speedway
(formerly K-C Raceway) a place to race on Friday’s, thus giving AMRA driver’s
there a better chance to compete for the National point money. Additionally,
under the same rules package, Jackson County drivers have a Saturday night
venue.
McCown added, “Obviously, I see a lot of value in having the AMRA at our
speedway. Most of all, we can concentrate on one rules package and stay in line
with the AMRA motto of ‘maintaining a level playing field’ for all of our
drivers. I can’t wait for the 2012 racing season.”
Jackson County’s regular classes include Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks,
Mod Lites, Outlaw 4 Cylinders, and FWD stock 4 Cylinders with other special
classes on the racing card throughout the season.
Pit Gates Open at 3:00 p.m. at Jackson Co. with hot laps at 6 and racing at 7.
General Admission is $10 for Senior Citizens and $12 adult, kids 6-12 $5, and
pit admission $30.
Ironically, both track records are held by the 2011 AMRA National
Champions—Chris Garnes in the Late Models (13:51) and Kenny Johnson, Modifieds
(14:53).

Chris Brown Wins USMTS Texas Winter Nationals Opener
Spring, Texas (11/23/11) – Chris Brown made a rare trio of starts in an Open
Wheel Modified over the weekend in the Texas Winter Nationals and came away with
a win and three top-ten-finishes to show for his efforts.
After a busy year of piloting his Super Late Model, Chris returned to his roots
on Thursday night at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas) as he entered the
opening night of the Casey's General USMTS Open Wheel Modified Texas Winter
Nationals. Piloting Kelly Shryock's backup #3b Skyrocket Brown started the night
by winning his heat race from the second starting spot to lock into the redraw
for the main event. In the redraw he would receive the pole starting spot for
the $2,000-to-win finale with Rick Beebe starting to his outside. As the race
went green Brown would motor to the lead, and once out front would never look
back as he led all 35 laps to claim the win over Rodney Sanders, Ryan Gustin,
Dereck Ramirez, and John O' Whittington. The victory was his fourth career
Casey's General USMTS triumph.
On Friday night a $3,000 winner's check was up for grabs in the second leg of
the weekend's tripleheader for the Casey's General USMTS Modified Series at
Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas). A talented field of 75 Open Wheel
Modifieds entered the event, and after advancing from the fifth starting
position to a second place finish in heat race action, he locked into the
twelfth starting spot for the 40 lap feature. Brown would advance three spots in
the feature to score a ninth place finish at the checkered flag.
Chris concluded his tripleheader weekend on Saturday night with a $4,000-to-win,
Casey's General USMTS Open Wheel Modified event, which also served as the tour's
season finale. Seventy-one cars registered for action, and for the third
straight night Brown would enjoy a solid performance in his heat as he advanced
from the starting spot to claim the win, which again put him in the redraw for
the feature. In the redraw he would receive the fifth starting spot. During the
course of the main event he would battle in the top five, and when the checkered
flag flew he was credited with a fifth place finish behind Dereck Ramirez, Jason
Hughes, Jason Thoennes, and Rodney Sanders. Overall, it was a successful weekend
as Chris was extremely grateful to Kelly Shryock for providing his backup car to
be used for the events. Full weekend results are available at
www.USMTS.com.
The event marked Brown's final event of the 2011 season as he now looks ahead to
the 2012 season. Chris and the team would like to thank everyone for their
support throughout the year!

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Hamlin, PA - Happy Thanksgiving From Hamlin Speedway
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The Smith Family and the Hamlin Speedway Staff would like to wish all of our
loyal sponsors, drivers, teams and racing fans the very best wishes for a joyous
Thanksgiving holiday. The past season at Hamlin had some tremendous highs with
fabulous racing excitement in all divisions and even the constant threat from
Mother Nature never deterred from the speedway's efforts to give the fans their
moneys worth on Saturday nights during the season. Through the great efforts of
the very loyal work force and competitors at the speedway, the great racing
shows at Hamlin continue to shine through despite the troubling economic woes
our country is suffering through. The spirit from the great network of support
enables us to embrace what good friends and family truly mean to us as we spend
precious time with family and friends during the holiday season.
The Hamlin Speedway will re-open in the Spring and will be the seventh season
the speedway has been under the guidance of the Smith Family. From all early
indications, the 2012 racing season will once again rise above the great success
the Smithy Family has enjoyed since taking over the controls of the speedway
that closed in the summer of the 2005 season. The Smith Family jump-started the
Speedway in 2006 and each season has brought new cars and stars to the forefront
in small car division racing. With additional drivers signing on to race at the
speedway in 2012, the already great car counts the speedway will take another
giant leap in numbers for the new season ahead. The major announcement from the
recent banquet has the Smith Fabrications/Stage One Modifieds in place for the
2012 season and is certain to add yet another great dimension to the well
formatted program the speedway is noted for. Drivers from the seven incumbent
divisions of competition operating at the speedway will once again shuffle the
deck to their racing programs as a few drivers from the Junior Slingshot
division will make the transition into the All Star Slingshot ranks for the new
season ahead and the Rookie 270 and 600 divisions will see a new brigade of
first timers seeking to make their mark at the premier racing facility in the
Poconos.
Keep in touch with all of the latest updates in Hamlin Speedway information by
visiting the website often. All of the news regarding the 2012 racing season and
some special events will follow in a timely manner. The Smith Family would like
to thank all of the drivers, owners, staff and the loyal band of race fans who
have helped make the Hamlin Speedway the finest well-rounded small car division
racing facility in the country.
