FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
After Strong Outing In Alabama, Josh Richards Heads To Texas With Plenty Of
Momentum
SHINNSTON, WV – Josh Richards didn’t add another checkered flag to his already
bulging 2009 win list last Friday night at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Ala.,
but he certainly didn’t lose much momentum either.
The soon-to-be 21-year-old sensation (he celebrates his milestone birthday on
March 22) from Shinnston, W.Va., registered a solid fifth -place finish in
Friday’s 40-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at Deep South, keeping
him on the right track entering the tour’s two-day ‘Lone Star 100’ this weekend
(March 20-21) at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
Josh, who arrived at Deep South with six victories already under his belt this
season, appeared primed to pump up his total on Friday night after qualifying
sixth fastest in time trials and winning a heat race in his Mark Richards
Racing-owned Seubert Calf Ranches/Ace Metal Works/TSR-Tony Stewart Racing/Petroff
Towing/MCB Motorsports/Ernie D’s Enterprises/Cornett Racing Engines Rocket
Chassis No. 1. But drawing the sixth starting spot in the pre-feature draw
likely doomed the young star, who found moving forward to be difficult on the
high-banked, four-tenths-mile oval.
“It was tough to pass because the track was so fast,” said Josh. ““I think we
were better than Brady (Smith, who finished fourth), but I ran behind him the
whole race. I could get under him in (turns) one and two, but I couldn’t carry
enough speed off the corner to pass him.
“I know that (Steve) Francis (race winner) was good, but I think that if we
started up front we would’ve had a chance to stay there and win.”
Saturday night’s scheduled 60-lap, $12,000-to-win WoO LMS finale at Deep South
was called off by officials after steady rain arrived late in the afternoon,
leaving Josh second in the tour’s points standings after three events, 16
markers behind Francis.
Josh, his father Mark and crewmen Jimmy Frey and Matt Barnes are spending the
week on the road, remaining on the Gulf Coast in advance of this weekend’s
two-day program at Battleground Speedway. The event will mark Josh’s first
career visit to Texas for a race.

ZTO MOTORSPORTS NEWS
West Park, NY- "Z-Man" Looks Ahead To 2009 Season At Accord Speedway In Spec
Sportsman Division
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
As West Park, New York driving talent the "Z-Man" Zach O'Connell approaches his
15th birthday, the pieces are beginning to fall into place for the upcoming 2009
racing season. O'Connell will be among the rookie hopefuls in the Ruges Parts
Spec Sportsman division when the new season at the Accord Speedway begins on
April 17th. O'Connell will be making his maiden voyage in the big car divisions
in 2009 after a short two year stint in the Slingshot division while competing
at Hamlin, Accord, Snydersville, Greenwood Valley and the Reading Fair
Speedways. In his two seasons of racing, O'Connell won Rookie of the Year honors
at Hamlin in a half season of racing in 2006 while finishing 5th in points in
points in 2007 and winning two main events at Hamlin along the way. Only
competing in a half a season in 2008, O'Connell had solid runs of a second place
finish and a an eighth place in the big 100-lap feature at Hamlin. At Accord,
O'Connell finished 9th in points in a half season of racing in 2008 and won the
Junior Slingshot title in 2007. O'Connell and his ZTO Motorsports Team won the
Best Appearing Car Award Nationally in 2007.
After weighing their many options as to which division to compete with, the ZTO
Team has purchased the John Lieto #73 race car that completed the 2008 racing
season at the Orange County Fair Speedway in second place in the points chase
behind Champion Mike Ruggerio. The car is a standard rack Teo Chassis machine
that is equipped with a GM Crate motor, and should prove to be a great starting
point for O'Connell as he prepares for battle in the tough, competitive and
ever-growing Spec Sportsman Division at the Accord Speedway. The division that
began with just 6 competitiors when initially launched, has been increasing in
numbers the past few years and the track roster is dotted with veterans who can
only afford this division and rookies and second year youngsters who are looking
at the division as their starting point in their racing careers. Plans for the
new racer include taking it down to the bare frame and going over every piece as
it is re-assembled for battle. A fresh paint scheme and Chip Gross graphics to
include the signature number 327 will spotlight the team race car. O'Connell
will spend some time in getting used to the new race car and it is hoped he will
be a quick study to the car and the new race track he will competing on in 2009
as the Accord facility has undergone another complete revamping of the raceway
for 2009.
Recently, the ZTO Motorsports Team traveled to the Phillipsburg Mall IRCO Dirt
Track Heroes Show in Phillipsburg, New Jersey and O'Connell was interviewed by
show hosts Ed and Steve Pados regarding his entry into his new division in 2009.
O'Connell signed autographs throughout his stay at the show and was well
received by the many fans who stopped by the ZTO booth for a chat. O'Connell
also enjoyed his first visit to the Daytona Speedway back in February where he
spent time with John Tresch and his family who were also in Florida for
Speedweeks. O'Connell met many racers and friends during his stay in Florida and
enjoyed the racing action in Daytona.
While O'Connell continues to excel in the classroom, he has found the time spent
hitting the books has more than doubled. He continues to maintain his Honor Roll
status for every semester at the Highland High School where he is enrolled as a
freshman. While the "Z-Man" keeps a heavy schedule of classes at all times, he
also very much aware The Honor Roll status is part of an agreement worked out by
his parents for the capacity to drive the in-house race cars. The "Z-Man" has
been nominated the Treasurer of the Student Council and is working in a support
capacity for the Class of 2012 Yearbook. This year will mark the sixth year the
"Z-Man" has been playing trumpet and more recently has adapted to learning to
play the Baritone as a member of the high school jazz band. Zach is also in his
third year of Spanish and has chosen Enterpreneurship as one his electives.
O'Connell has returned to his fondness for Bowling this year. While being an
accomplished bowler in the past, O'Connell had gotten away from the sport but
has now taken an active interest once again and is a member of the High School
Bowling Team and is doing quite well in his return to the lanes.
ZTO Motorsports would like to thank the great supporting cast of sponsors who
have thrown their support to the relatively new racing team as they embark on
new benchmarks for 2009. The list includes, Apple Greens Golf Course, Lowes Home
Improvement of Kingston, D&D NAPA of Highland, John J Pezzo, CPA, P&Z Rental
Management Inc, Northern Dutchess Archery, Hig-Fab, Fast Dirt Racing Promotions,
Port Ewen Athletic Association, and GA Motorsports Media. The ZTO Motorsports
Team is actively seeking additional sponsorship help for the 2009 racing season
and is looking for crew help during the week and at the race track.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chub Frank Heads To Texas Buoyed By Encouraging Run At Deep South Speedway
BEAR LAKE, PA – Chub Frank is never satisfied with a sixth-place finish, but
sometimes he’ll accept one as an encouraging run.
Such was the case last Friday night at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Ala.,
where Chub’s sixth-place performance in the track’s 40-lap World of Outlaws Late
Model Series event helped him get back on track one month after a frustrating
trip to Georgia and Florida.
“At least we were back to being competitive,” said Chub, who opened the WoO LMS
season last month with finishes of ninth and 24th at Florida’s Volusia Speedway
Park. “We made some changes after struggling so much last month and I think
we’re headed in the right direction.”
Chub began Friday night’s first-ever WoO LMS program at the high-banked,
four-tenths-mile oval by recording the fourth-fastest lap in time trials. He won
the fourth heat race, but picking the seventh starting spot for the A-Main in
the draw likely doomed Chub and his Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino
Toyota, All-Star Performance, Corry Laser, Slavic Corporation, Custom Race
Engines, GW Performance Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1*. With passing
was at a premium in the feature, Chub managed to improve just one position
before the checkered flag was thrown.
“The track was just too fast,” said Chub. “It needed to slow down so you could
move around on it and pass. The way it was, you needed somebody to bobble to get
past them.”
Chub did engage in a hot duel with defending WoO LMS champion Darrell Lanigan
early in the A-Main. The two drivers touched on lap 10 and swapped paint a
couple more times before Chub pulled away.
“He thought he had me clear (entering turn three), but he hit me in the door,”
Chub said of his battle with Lanigan. “It about crashed us both. I thought for a
second that I was going right in the wall, but I held on.
“I was mad at the time and we’ll talk about it, but I know he didn’t mean it. He
doesn’t drive like that.”
Saturday night’s scheduled 60-lap, $12,000-to-win WoO LMS event at Deep South
Speedway was canceled after steady rain arrived along the Gulf Coast late in the
afternoon. Track and WoO LMS officials have not determined if there is a
suitable d ate for the tour to return to the track later in the season.
Following the rainout Chub headed west for Texas, where the WoO LMS will contest
the inaugural Lone Star 100 this weekend (March 20-21) at Battleground Speedway
outside Houston. The tour’s first visit to Texas since 2004 will feature a
$20,000-to-win A-Main.
Chub currently sits seventh in the WoO LMS points standings, 70 points behind
leader Steve Francis.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Still Red Hot: Josh Richards Makes Hagerstown Speedway’s Opener His Sixth
Victory Of Young 2009 Season
SHINNSTON, WV – Josh Richards is threatening to match his 2008 win total before
the ’09 season barely rolls into spring.
A winner of a career-high 11 features last year, the sensational young driver
from Shinnston, W.Va., already has six triumphs on his 2009 scorecard after
capturing Saturday afternoon’s 30-lap dirt Late Model season opener at
Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.
“It’s just been an awesome year so far,” Josh said after backing up his amazing
five-win February in Florida with a checkered flag in his first northern start
of the season. “Every time I think about how this season has started, I just
can’t believe it. Hopefully we can keep it up.”
Driving the Ernie and Connie Davis-owned Ernie D’s Enterprises/Tim Fraker Signs
Cornett/Rocket No. 25 for the first time since he won three races in a 24-hour
span on Feb. 5-6 at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla., Josh was
unbeatable on an unseasonably warm March day at Hagerstown. He swept the
program, winning his heat race and roaring off the pole position to lead the
feature from flag-to-flag without a serious challenge.
“We lucked out with the draw (for heat position),” said Josh, who survived
several caution flags en route to crossing the finish line with a commanding
5.94-second advantage over Frankie Plessinger. “We started the heat from the
outside pole and won it to get the pole for the feature – and that was where you
wanted to be.
“Even though we started from the pole, the car was still phenomenal. I never
even had to run it to its full potential all day.”
Josh, who turns 21 on March 22, earned $2,000 for his third career win at
Hagerstown, a half-mile oval at which he ran the second dirt Late Model race of
his career as a 15-year-old early in the 2004 season. The victory earned him a
guaranteed starting spot in the 100-lap dirt Late Model portion of Hagerstown’s
22nd annual Octoberfest 350 on Oct. 24-25.
“All the credit for this win goes to Joe Pingleton,” said Josh, singling out the
chief mechanic of the Ernie D’s Enterprises No. 25 that he runs in selected
events. “He worked his butt off for the past month to get this car ready after
East Bay.”
Josh will return to the seat of his familiar Mark Richards Racing-owned Seubert
Calf Ranches/Ace Metal Works/TSR-Tony Stewart Racing/Petroff Towing/MCB
Motorsports/Ernie D’s Enterprises/Cornett Racing Engines Rocket Chassis No. 1
this weekend (March 13-14) for a World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader
at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Ala. After a practice night on Thursday (March
12), the two-day spectacular includes a 40-lap/$7,000-to-win A-Main on Friday
and a 60-lap/$12,000-to-win show on Saturday.
With a victory in the WoO LMS season opener on Feb. 12 at Volusia Speedway Park
in Barberville, Fla., already under his belt, Josh enters the Deep South weekend
second in the tour’s points standings, just six points behind Steve Francis.

South Park, PA (March 2, 2009) Keith Barbara and the Forbes Field Motorsports
team have been hard at work this off-season getting prepared for the upcoming

Austin Hubbard News
Laurel, DE. (February 19, 2009) - Austin Hubbard and the Hubbard Motorsports
team are winding up their season-opening trek to Volusia Speedway Park in
Barberville, FL. The team entered their first event at the track and the DIRTCar
Nationals on Tuesday, February 10 with a new Rocket Chassis race car.
The first night was spent adapting to the track and the new car. That hard work
would soon pay off. Austin had a strong showing the following night by moving
from the 7th to the 4th position in his heat. After leading 11 laps of a B-main
race, Austin would finish second to Jimmy Owens, a finish that would be good
enough to make the main feature. Unfortunately, the team missed the setup and
finished where they started in the 22nd position. After the race, the oil screen
was found to be full of metal which ultimately led to pulling out a backup car
for the remainder of the week.
On Thursday night, Austin and the team went to work on the backup car. Austin
qualified 40th out of the field of 61 cars, gained a position in his heat race,
but ended up calling it a night when the motor failed due to a broken valve. The
team would like to pay special thanks to Mike Bullock of Bullock Race Engines
who drove all night from Somerset KY to deliver and new motor to finish out the
week.
When asked for comments about his Volusia experience, Austin had this to say:
"Parts failure killed our week but we leave knowing we made a show and the new
Rocket races great. We just have to qualify better. That along with some engine
luck and we are ready for this level."
You can view photos of Austin in action at Volusia by visiting Austin's photo
gallery at www.austinhubbard.com.

Austin will wrap up his trip to Florida after spending three days at the

News From Brea Lopez Motorsports
Vader, WA - Open Wheel Sensation Brea Lopez Making The Transition To The Late
Model Division For 2009 Racing Season
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Washington State Open Wheel driving sensation Brea Lopez will be making the
transitional move into the Late Model division for the 2009 racing season. The
young speedster feels the timing was right and has sold off most of her Midget
racing equipment from a year ago as she embarks on her maiden journey into the
full-fendered divisions of racing. Speed obviously will not be a problem for the
20-year old real estate agent as the late model cars are a half second or more
slower than the Midget equipment she was racing in the past. Lopez feels her
biggest concern will be adapting to her new race car that is more than two times
the width of her Midget and three times heavier. Lopez has been a winner in
every division she has raced up to this point in her career and is looking
forward to the new challenges she will be facing in the Late Model division.
The Brea Lopez Motorsports Racing Team has enjoyed an outstanding career as part
of the Washington Midget Racing Association. Beginning as a rookie in 2005,
Lopez was a quick study and soon was challenging the stars of the series for top
billing. She finished as runner-up in the points chase her first year and was
named the Rookie of the Year in the series. Lopez experienced somewhat of a
sophomore jinx in 2006 as the car, while just as fast, was not finishing all of
the races as it did in the previous year and Lopez settled for ninth in the
final standings. The year was further hindered when the team had their entire
rig stolen while enroot to race in Florida. The great racing and trucking
community rallied around the Lopez Team and found the rig with the car intact
but missing all of the team's parts, tools and other related racing equipment.
Forced to regroup, the team hit the speedways in 2007 with a renewed effort and
focus with assitance from many people involved with racing.
Driving hard, clean and fast from the opening bell, the bitterness from the 2006
season was soon erased with a string of solid finishes that saw Lopez battling
hard in the hunt for the 2007 series title. A couple of mechanical issues
towards the end of the season relegated Lopez to third place in the final
standings but she was rewarded as the Most Improved Driver in the series. The
team was fast and furious for the 2008 racing season but knew right from the
start of the season that financing the team for the entire season was going to
be an issue. The team decided against running a couple of the long distance
towing events and settled for fifth in the final point standings despite being a
top five car in most of the races where they competed in. Knowing they had
already made the decision to move into the full-fendered class for 2009, the
entire Midget operation was placed up for sale. Most of the equipment to date
has been sold off.
Back in the shop, Brea's Grandfather, West Coast racing legend Dan Press had
begun to formulate a plan as to where the team would be racing in 2009. The team
picked up a Victory Circle race chassis and has fitted it with a GM Crate motor
for competition with the Limited Late Model division at the South Sound Speedway
located in Rochester, Washington. The track will be a familiar and a good
starting point for Lopez as she has always enjoyed great success while running
her Midget on the fastest 3/8 mile raceway on the West Coast. While Lopez has
cast her hat into the ring for a run at the Rookie of the Year award, she would
like nothing better than to win a few races in her rookie season with the Late
Model division. Lopez has always been a fan favorite to the South Sound racing
crowd and will be a welcome addition to the weekly competition that features
such proven talents as track champion JJ Hamilton, Chad Hinkle, Ron Wolf, and
Aryln Long. Fellow competitor Billy Weber holds the track record for the Late
Models with a clocking of 13.714 seconds on the 3/8 mile speedplant. In her
Midget, Lopez was a consistent 13.15 seconds per lap racer.
The schedule for the team will find four straight weekends of practice at South
Sound Speedway beginning on the 7th of March and running until the 28th. The
start of the season begins on April 4th and runs through the month of September.
The Lopez Team is hoping to have the car ready for the opening practice to allow
Lopez an ample opportunity to become accustomed to her new surroundings in
racing.
While the Brea Lopez Motorsports Team continues to ready the team's late model
for competition, the search to add additional sponsors to the fold continues on
a daily basis. The downturn in the National economy has become a difficult
challenge for all racers trying to find glory and success in a racing
environment. Anyone who would like to lend support to the Brea Lopez Motorsports
Team efforts should contact her through her website for further information.
Brea Lopez would like to thank all of her sponsors and supporters for their
efforts in helping the team prepare for the 2009 racing season. Redline Oil,
Bell Helmets, Finish Line Racing Equipment, Nex-Gen Motorsports and GA
Motorsports Media have all played a major role in the success of the team.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chub Puts Frustrating Season-Opening Southern Trip Behind Him
BEAR LAKE, PA – Feb. 18, 2009 – Chub Frank’s annual season-opening excursion
down south was one he’d like to forget.
The 47-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., qualified for eight of the nine
Super Late Model events he entered in Georgia and Florida over a three-week
period, but a top finish of eighth certainly left him far from satisfied.
“It just wasn’t that good,” Chub said of his trip, which included visits to
Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Ga., for the Super Bowl of Racing V (Jan.
29-31) and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., for the Alltel DIRTcar
Nationals by UNOH (Feb. 9-14). “We didn’t really do anything to get excited
about.”
Driving his familiar Corry Rubber/Lake Shore Paving/Hino Toyota/All-Star
Performance/Corry Laser/Slavic Corporation/Custom Race Engines/GW Performance
Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1*, Chub kicked off his campaign with
three subpar, shake-down outings at the three-eighths-mile Golden Isles oval. He
scored finishes of 24th (Jan. 29) and 23rd (Jan. 30) before failing to qualify
for the O’Reilly Southern All-Stars Series finale on Jan. 31.
After spending the foll owing week in Florida but away from the track, Chub
returned to competition for the six-night meet at the half-mile Volusia
facility. Though he’s enjoyed plenty of success at the sweeping oval in the
past, Chub managed just three quiet top-10 finishes during the busy week. An
eighth-place run in the 30-lap UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned A-Main on Feb. 11 was his
best, followed by ninth-place finishes in the 30-lap UMP DIRTcar lidlifter on
Feb. 9 and the 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series season opener on Feb.
12.
The remainder of Chub’s stay at Volusia was miserable. In UMP DIRTcar action he
scored finishes of 22nd (Feb. 10) and 18th (40-lap special on Feb. 13), and in
the week’s second WoO LMS 50-lapper, on Feb. 14, he absorbed a 24th-place finish
after dropping out following a lap-25 restart tangle that sent him spinning on
the homestretch with a broken tie-rod.
“Our biggest problem all week was that we just didn’t qualify very good,” Chub
said of his Volusia struggles. “With the way the racetrack was prepared with a
lot of moisture in it, it was wide-open and hard to pass on. The track was racy
for the guys up front, but you had to be good early in the night to get yourself
positioned up there.”
Chub didn’t get off to a fast start in the WoO LMS points standings. He departed
Volusia ranked 14th in the points standings, 58 points behind leader Steve
Francis.
As if Chub’s performance on the track didn’t frustrate him enough, he was
saddened during his southern trip by the loss of his dog Sport. One of two
trusty Chihuahuas that travel with Chub and his wife Mary, Sport was hit by a
car when he ran off from Chub’s hauler when it was parked in a Wal-Mart parking
lot in the days before the start of Volusia’s action.
Chub will spend the next month hard at his work in his shop, preparing his
equipment for his next WoO LMS starts on March 13-14 at Deep South Speedway in
Loxley, Ala. The doubleheader will feature a 40-lap, $7,000-to-win show on Fri.,
March 13, and a 60-lap, $12,000-to-win program on Sat., March 14.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Josh Richards Still Riding High After Amazing Five-Win Visit To Florida
SHINNSTON, WV – Josh Richards is still having a hard time grasping the enormity
of his performance in Florida over the past two weeks.
With three victories at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton and two at Volusia
Speedway Park in Barberville over a one-week span, the 20-year-old phenom from
Shinnston, W.Va., pulled off one of the most spectacularly dominant dirt Late
Model runs the Sunshine State has ever seen.
“It’s been an awesome Speedweeks,” Josh said after pocketing over $45,000 for
his five triumphs alone. “I would’ve never dreamed we would win that many races
down here. The competition at these races is just so tough, it’s an
accomplishment to win once, let alone five times.
“I can’t say enough about everybody who helped me have so much success. I just
hope we can keep it up the rest of the year and win a lot more races.”
Josh quietly kicked off his annual southern excursion during the three-night
O’Reilly Southern All-Stars Series meet at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick,
Ga., that stretched from Jan. 29-31. Making his ’09 debut with a new color
scheme adorning his Mark Richards Racing-owned Seubert Calf Ranches/Ace Metal
Works/TSR-Tony Stewart Racing/Petroff Towing/MCB Motorsports/Ernie D’s
Enterprises/Cornett Racing Engines Rocket Chassis No. 1, Josh drove to three
consecutive fifth-place finishes.
The young sensation switched to the Ernie Davis-owned Ernie D’s Enterprises/Tim
Fraker Signs Cornett/Rocket No. 25 – the car he is campaigning in selected
events for the second straight season – for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park. After starting slow with a 13th-place
finish on Feb. 3, Josh provided a glimpse of things to come during his
ninth-place outing on Feb. 4, which came after he pitted to change a right-rear
tire that cut down on lap eight of the 30-lap feature as he was preparing to bid
for the lead.
Josh got the job done the following night, capturing the 40-lap event on Feb. 5
to earn $10,000 and register his first career win at East Bay. He upped the ante
on Feb. 6, pulling off an unprecedented sweep of a rare day/night dirt Late
Model doubleheader – he won the postponed 30-lapper run in the afternoon for a
$5,000 payday, then repeated with a dramatic $10,000 victory in the
regularly-scheduled nightcap that saw his car pop a right-rear tire crossing the
finish line.
Back behind the wheel of his father Mark’s familiar No. 1 for the six-race
Alltel DIRT car Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park (Feb. 9-14), Josh
struggled to finishes of eighth (Feb. 9), seventh (Feb. 10) and 15th (Feb. 11)
in the UMP DIRT car-sanctioned Super Late Model events that kicked off the week.
Then he parked the new ’09 car he had been driving in favor of an old-reliable
machine that he found success with last season – and the result was back-to-back
victories on Feb. 12 (the 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series season
opener) and Feb. 13 (the 40-lap UMP DIRT car finale).
Josh topped off his Volusia visit with a seventh-place finish in the WoO LMS
finale on Feb. 14 after a mid-program rain delay changed the track surface, but
that didn’t diminish his consecutive $10,000 triumphs. He won the WoO LMS opener
at the half-mile oval for the third consecutive year and became the first driver
since Billy Moyer (in 2005) to win a WoO LMS A-Main and the UMP DIRT car finale
during a single Alltel DIRT car Nationals by UNOH.
“I wish we would’ve done better in the last race, but it’s still been an awesome
three weeks of racing for us down here,” said Josh, who headed home ranked
second in the WoO LMS points standings (he’s chasing his first tour title this
season) and leading the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings. “This is a
Speedweeks I’ll never forget.”
Josh’s standout performance at Volusia helped him move on from the controversial
incidents with Terry Casey that brought him unwanted attention during the
Winternationals at East Bay.
“Last week, in my book, it was just hard racing,” Josh said of the run-ins with
Casey. “Nothing was intentional. Everything just gets blown out of proportion.
“That’s all over with now. I forgot about that the first day we were at Volusia.
We came to Volusia with our heads on straight and ended up with two wins, so
everything’s good.
“We ended up running best with our older car (at Volusia), but I think our new
car will be fine. We just had a little bit different engine in it that probably
wasn’t the right combination at the beginning of the week.
“Now we’ll get home, get our stuff straightened out, and go on from here. I’m
really looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Josh tentatively is scheduled to drive the Ernie D’s Enterprises No. 25 this
Saturday afternoon (Feb. 21) in t he Northeast season opener at Hagerstown (Md.)

BOBBY VARIN RACING NEWS
Sharon Springs, NY- Bobby Varin Set To Defend Fonda Speedway Modified Title
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Modified super-talent Bobby Varin has formulated his plans for the upcoming 2009
racing season. Varin, who is coming off a year in which he and his race team met
many challenges and prevailed, is looking at a two-night a week race schedule
that will have him defending his 2008 Fonda Speedway Modified track title on
Saturday evenings and will once again return to the Utica Rome Speedway for his
Sunday night racing activity. Varin is coming off a year at Utica Rome that
began slowly and and somewhere near the mid-point of the racing season caught a
turn of good fortune that saw the veteran hot shoe string together many top
performances that was capped off by his end of the season win at the New Yorker
200 and winning $10,000.00 in the process. Varin ended up rallying for a third
in the final points totals at the speedway and is hoping to pick-up where he
left off and make a solid run for the Modified title at Utica Rome as well.
Bobby Varin captured the Fonda Modified title for the fourth time in his
illustrious driving career. After winning his first championship in 2000, Varin
would lay claim to back to back titles in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 Varin lost the
crown to Matt DeLorenzo and finished in the runnerup role at the speedway.
Although disappointed, Varin got off to a great start at the speedway in 2008
and took the lead in the points battle early on. Before the mid-point of the
season hit, Varin was forced to oversome some major adversity that made winning
the 2008 crown one of Varin's crowning achievements in his storied racing
career. Varin's fourth title came in a year where some problems between his then
car owner and the Fonda Speedway Promotor became hectic enough to have the car
owner pull his equipment out of the speedway in a surprise move that left Varin
temporarily rideless in his quest for his fourth title. An angel appeared
quickly in the form of long time Modified owner Dave Cruickshank. Cruickshank, a
veteran car owner and sponsor long associated with the success of the great
Buzzie Reutiman when he was making the trip North each from his Zephyr Hills,
Florida residence, became the angel the Varin Team was seeking out.
Cruickshank rallied around the Varin team and purchased the Bicknell/JPM ride
Varin was steering at Fonda. Never missing a beat, the Varin Team re-painted and
re-lettered the racer to the familiar signature numbered 00 cars of past
Cruickshank success and the table was set for Varin to forge ahead in his quest
for the title. Varin finished the season with three feature event wins to his
credit but more importantly was his uncanny knack to rise above the adversity
from early in the season and keep sight on the Fonda Speedway title. Varin
scored 34 top ten finishes and 27 top five finishes to go along with his three
wins and it was his consistency that played a major role in the winning of the
Fonda championship.
Varin returns to the racing wars in 2009 with Bicknell Chassis and the tall
horsepower provided once again by the JPM Motors Shops. Varin will utilize big
block power at both Fonda and Utica Rome and his son Danny will do likewise as
they prepare for action at two of their favorite race tracks. The younger Varin
was also challenged by some adversities early in the season, but he responded
well through the help of owner Cruickshank to enjoy a solid year in the Modified
ranks and was honored as the Modified "rookie of the Year" at the Fonda Banquet.
With a year of experience under his belt, the 17-year old speedster is hoping to
put all of his experience gained to good use when the new season rolls out.
Tommy Varin, the younger brother of Bobby, began his racing career late last
year at the Glen Ridge Speedway. While only making seven starts, he managed to
garner a 15th in the final points rundown and looks forward to running in the
new DIRT Sportsman car ranks in 2009 at Glen Ridge. Tommy will be utilizing a
2003 Troyer chassis race car along with a crate motors in his first full year of
driving.
The Varin Pit Crew was awarded the Pit Crew of the Year at Fonda for their
ability to keep Varin and the 00 race car at the front of the pack all season
long. Sharing in the award were car owner Dave Cruickshank, Crew Chief John
Bakuzonis, and crew members, Dave Cross, Jeff Preston, Tyler Preston, Bucky
Loucks and Garret Sagatis and the crew is once again ready to keep the Varin
equipment at the front of the pack in 2009.
The Varin Family credits much of their success to the fine group of sponsors who
continue to support their racing efforts. Dover Brake, Joe Bertothly, JFB
Fabrications, Land Designs, Supply Wagon Rentals, Budget Exteriors, Corigliano
Towing, Leslie Home Improvement, and Bean Cafe have all been solid in their
support of the Varin's racing efforts and encourage the racing community to
support all of these fine sponsors whenever they have the capacity to do so.
Bobby and Danny Varin would like to thank their their loyal fan base for the
strong support offered during the 2008 season. More updates will follow shortly
for the Varin Racing team efforts. Futher updates and information can be found
on the Bobby Varin Website at:

SEVEN-TIME NASCAR MOD CHAMP MIKE STEFANIK ENTERS INDOOR RACE
PROVIDENCE, RI – Seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Mike Stefanik
will try to add another win to his illustrious resume when high-powered
three-quarter size race cars (TQ-Midgets) come to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in
Providence, R.I., on March 6-7.
Stefanik, 50, of Coventry, R.I., is scheduled to drive a Colin Martin-owned No. 26 Spitfire Chassis entry in the first indoor race to happen in Rhode Island since 1959.
“It will be something different,” Stefanik said. “I’ve never sat in a TQ-Midget before, let alone race one indoors.”
The races will be right in front of the fans, on a concrete oval track built
around the outside of the arena's hockey rink. All seats will provide spectators
with an excellent view of the thrilling, high-speed competition with the best
drivers in the Northeast competing.
Each night will feature complete shows, including heat races, consolation races
and a 20-car feature, for both classes.
Stefanik’s presence in outdoor racing is unprecedented. He was named the second greatest NASCAR Modified driver of all-time in 2003. His seven series=2 0championships are tied with Jerry Cook for second all-time, trailing only the late Richie Evans.
In 2006, Stefanik tied Evans with nine overall championships in NASCAR-sanctioned competitions, including the unique situation where in 1997 and 1998 when he won both the Modified and Busch North Series (now Camping World East Series) championships in the same year.
From 1989 through 1998, Stefanik won four championships in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and was an accomplished Busch North Series driver, winning the 1997 and 1998 titles.
In doing so, he became the first driver to win two NASCAR championships in consecutive years.
Following these seasons, Stefanik moved to the Craftsman Truck Series (now Camping World Series) and finished in the top-10 nine times during 1999, achieving the Rookie of the Year honors.
Stefanik has since returned to the Modified ranks and he=2 0is looking forward to representing his state in the TQ-Midget class.
“Rhode Island had the first oval track race and we have a lot of race fans,
but we don’t have any race tracks any longer,” Stefanik said. “There seems to be
a lot of interest in this race. As soon as I heard about an indoor race coming
to Providence, I wanted to be a part of it.”
Martin has fielded some of the top indoor TQ-Midgets.
He fielded an entry for Frank Fischer in the Gambler’s Classic, which was recently completed at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Due to work commitments, Fischer is unable to attend the races in Providence.
Stefanik knows first-hand of Martin’s successful race cars.
“I went to one indoor race in Atlantic City and Joey Payne drove one of Colin’s cars to victory,” Stefanik said. “I know Joey Payne is considered one of the Mac Daddy’s of indoor racing.
“I talked to Colin about what it’s like to race indoors. He said I should just go, jump in it and have fun. I guess I’ll be doing some on-the-job training right at the event.”
Stefanik isn’t the only NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion who will participate in the two-day event. Defending series champion Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., is the first to file an official entry form. Christopher won the Gambler’s Classic TQ-Midget race in January.
“I think this will be a great event for this area,” Stefanik said. “The Modifieds are really strong in the Northeast, plus there is a lot of Midget Car history too. Who would have ever th ought we would be racing indoors in the winter?”
In addition to the TQ-Midgets, the programs will feature Senior Champ Karts, a division that features speeds close to that of the TQ-Midgets.
Entries for the event are limited to 36 TQ-Midgets and 36 Senior Champ Karts.
Tickets can be purchased at the Dunkin’ Donuts Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at: www.ticketmaster.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chub Frank Ready For Return To Winning Ways In 2009
BEAR LAKE, PA – Jan. 26, 2009 – Chub Frank is primed and ready for a return to
his winning ways on the dirt Late Model circuit in 2009.
Coming off an uncharacteristically quiet 2008 season that saw him reach Victory
Lane just once, Chub heads into the new campaign confident that a turnaround is
in store for his self-owned racing team.
The 47-year-old superstar from Bear Lake, Pa., will kick off his busy 2009
schedule this week in the Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway in
Waynesville, Ga., competing in four consecutive nights of O’Reilly Southern
All-Stars Series events from Wednesday (Jan. 28) through Saturday (Jan. 31).
“There hasn’t been much off-season, but we’ve been working hard for the last
couple of months and I feel like we have everything where it needs to be,” said
Chub, who returns Brad Baum as his chief mechanic for the fourth consecutive
season. “Now we just need some good luck and we should be O.K.”
Chub’s focus will once again center on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series,
the national tour that he’s followed since its launch in 2004 under the World
Racing Group banner. He finished a career-high second in the series points
standings and led the tour in victories (with six) in 2007, but a slip to fifth
in the 2008 points chase (with only one win) left him unsatisfied.
“I think we were fast last year, especially late in the season when we found
some things on the car that worked,” said Chub, who will also enter selected
special events throughout the season to accent his WoO LMS action. “But we had
some bad luck during the season, stuff that usually doesn’t happen – I mean, I
flipped (at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in April) and I drove a car
into the wall after something hit my helmet (in September at Pennsylvania’s
McKean County Raceway).
“Hopefully we got all our bad luck out of the way last year.”
Chub plans to debut a new Rocket No. 1* machine at Golden Isles – a car he just
finished assembling over the weekend. He’ll have his usual stable of Rocket
mounts and Custom Race Engines at his disposal. His cars will feature two
different graphics schemes, both with more blue visible than his ’08 look.
The 2009 season will mark Chub’s first since 2004 without primary sponsorship
from Lester Buildings, which was forced to end its run as Chub Frank Racing
supporter due to economic circumstances. While the driver known as ‘Chubzilla’
is still searching for a major sponsor to replace Lester Buildings, he boasts a
strong list of backers on the flanks of his Chevrolet Impala SS dirt Late
Models, including Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, All-Star
Performance, Corry Laser, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Custom Race
Engines and GW Performance.
Chub will head to Florida after this week’s four-race meet at Golden Isles
Speedway, but he’ll spend the first week of February working on his equipment
and relaxing in the Sunshine State rather than competing in the Winternationals
at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla. He’ll return to action from Feb.
9-14 in the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in
Barberville, Fla., a half-mile oval that is set to host four nights of UMP
DIRTcar Super Late Model competition (Feb. 9, 10, 11 and 13) and the
season-opening WoO LMS programs on Feb. 12 and 14.

TED CHRISTOPHER FILES PROVIDENCE INDOOR ENTRY
PROVIDENCE, RI – Defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher
is the first to file an entry for the upcoming indoor Three-Quarter Midget race
at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., on March 6 and 7.
“I have to go,” Christopher, 50, said. “I do not want miss an event of this caliber. This is a first time for a motorsports event in 50 years in the state of Rhode Island, and I want to be a part of it.
“This event is huge for the Northeast. For me, it is only an hour-and-a-half from my home. Plus, we hav e a lot of race fans in this area and big markets, like Boston, Mass., Hartford, Conn., and Providence, to draw from.”
Christopher is skipping an ASA/S.M.A.R.T. Series asphalt Modified event at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C., which he had previously scheduled to attend for that same weekend.
The versatile driver from Plainville, Conn., collected his first-ever indoor TQ Midget feature win on January 17 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
“Winning that race really meant a lot,” Christopher said. “Racing indoors is
so intense for a driver, and it is just as intense for the race fans. I know
race fans will want to experience the speed and tight racing that happens when
you are racing indoors.”
Just how fast are the TQ Midgets indoors?
In Atlantic City, Aston, Pa.’s Lou Cicconi Jr., who defeated NASCAR Sprint Cup star Tony Stewart in Fort Wayne, Ind. recently, posted a record 8.982-second lap. Similar speeds are expected to occur inside the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
“I am an intense driver, so indoor racing fits me quite well,” Christopher said.
In addition to the high-powered TQ Midgets, the programs will feature Senior Champ Karts, a division that features speeds close to that of the TQ Midgets.
Entries for the event are limited to 36 TQ Midgets and 36 Senior Champ Karts.
Those who qualified for the feature events in Atlantic City will get the first
chance to compete in the race at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center as long as those
entries are filed before January 30.
A fter that, entries will be accepted accordingly.
Each night will feature complete shows, including heat races, consolation races and a feature, for both classes.
Tickets go on sale this Saturday and can by purchased at the Dunkin’ Donuts Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at: www.ticketmaster.com.

NASCAR Modified Champion Ted Christopher Wins Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Ted Christopher opened the 2009 racing season in a big way
by winning the Gambler’s Classic TQ Midget/600 cc Micro Sprint Car race at
Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night.
The defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion earned $5,000 for claiming his first-career indoor race at the New Jersey shore.
“I’ve won a lot of things over the years, but this one surely ranks up there as one of the best,” Christopher said. “This race has so m uch history and it’s a hard event to win.”
Christopher, 50, of Plainville, Conn., started 14th in the 25-car starting field and topped two-time Gambler’s Classic winner Joey Payne at the finish.
“Joey is a master of the race and any indoor event,” Christopher said. “I knew he would be right there, trying to get the win.”
Christopher, though, had a dominant car as he topped Payne by four-car lengths at the end of the 40-lap race.
Payne of Fairlawn, N.J., settled for a well-earned second after flipping his race car early in the event, but the team made repairs quick enough for him to return to the feature. Mike Lichty of Innerkip, Ontario, was third, while Jeff Heotzler of Wallkill, N.Y., was fourth and Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, Pa., was fifth.
Pole-sitter Matt Janisch had the advantage from the pole-starting spot as several of the mid-pack racers, including one-time winner and pre-race favorite Lou Cicconi Jr. were involved in crashes.
However, Janisch’s efforts were turned on a lap 21 when he was spun from contention on a restart.
Christopher restarted the race alongside Heotzler and powered into the lead on the restart.
He proceeded to lead the final half of the race while Payne wrestled with Heotzler to get the second position.
Earlier in the evening, Frank Fischer, Christopher, Pat Bealer and Payne won the feature transfer races.
Paul Lotier Jr. of Lebanon, Pa., started 15th and won the Briggs and Stratton
Slingshot feature, earning $1,500 in the process.
Lotier topped Marc Daniels, Todd Dippel, Michael Butler and Kyle Heiber in the
final tally.
Ryan Kendall of East Greenbush, N.Y., won the Champ Kart feature race. Norman Hynes was second, followed by Todd Root, Eric Zeh and Coby Cressinger.

NEWS FROM JERRY HIGBIE RACING
GOSHEN, NY: Jerry Higbie Takes Ill Thursday Night After Returning To Hotel; Does
Not Race Friday Night
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Slate Hill, New York Modified star Jerry Higbie took ill on Thursday evening
after returning to his Hotel room after the wrap-up of the day's racing events
at the Chili Bowl. Higbie stopped along the way to grab a late night snack in
preparations for the Friday racing action in which he was entered. Shortly after
eating, Higbie became ill and spent the remainder of the evening vomitting wit
hhot and cold sweats and faint from the untimely experience.
Higbie went to the race arena as scheduled on Friday morning and explained his
situation to car owner Corey Tucker. After some discussion, Tucker told Jerry to
go out and hot-lap the machine and see how he felt after the warm-up session.
Higbie went onto the track and practiced with the race car but by his own
admission was way off his A-Game and informed Tucker of that upon returning to
the pit area. After careful consideration and being very much concerned for his
driver, Higbie was sent to the emergency room of the hospital where he was given
some medication for his nausea. Higbie went back to the Hotel and slept for more
than fourteen hours and missed the entire Friday racing action at the Chili
Bowl.
Tucker immediately went looking for a driver to fill the seat of his Midget
racer. Tucker didn't have to look far as 17 year old Elk Grove, California
sprint car driving sensation Kyle Larson was in the house and was seeking an
opportunity to race. After being re-fitted to the car and going out to find some
racing gear, Larson went out and and snared a thrid place in his heat race just
behind Dustin Morgan and Greg Wilson. Larson then moved to the A-Qualifier where
he finished in 6th place. The finish moved Larson into the B-Main and the
youngster was getting faster as the evening progressed. In the B-Main, Larson
put on a dazzling show and finished just behind winner Rich Camfield to gain
entrance into the Friday evening A-Main. Larson's Cinderella bid ended just five
laps into the A-Main as mechanical woes put the CTR machine and Larson behind
the pit wall. Nevertheless, the entire day brought about a bunch of dramatics to
the Chili Bowl floor for Higbie, Larson and the entire CTR race team.
Larson will find himself another opportunity to do some further racing today as
the alphabet races take place all day Saturday to determine who will be the
final twelve drivers joining the twelve drivers already qualified for the
Saturday night spectacular. For Higbie, who came into his second setting of the
Chili Bowl with such high hopes for a stellar performance, the turn of events
has left him very much disappointed with the outcome. The 2008 Orange County
Fair Speedway 358 Modified Champion will watch from the sidelines as his mount
is put through the paces by the youngster Larson. Always keeping his air of
professionalism for which he is well noted for, Higbie explained, "While I am
disappointed myself and for my loyal legion of fans who support the efforts of
Jerry Higbie Racing, it was great for the CTR Team to be able to find a great
young driving talent such as Kyle Larson to be up to the task to make the most
out of his opportunity to shine at the best open wheel race in the country. It
was a great team effort and I am proud and honored to be a part of the CTR
Team".
Two-time National Midget driver of the year and current USAC Sprint and Silver
Crown Champion Jerry Coons Jr won the Friday night feature with Levi Jones and
Brad Loyet also making the transfer to the Saturday night main. Another CTR
driver, Billy Wilburn, shook off the rust from not racing for the past five
years and finished a commendable 8th place in his B-Main event.
Higbie and his new "HigFab" racing shop, located on the outskirts of Goshen, New
York, continues to fabricate all of the necessary components for today's racers.
Higbie has found himself immersed in the business at hand as his new shop is
filled with racers in all forms of build or re-build.
Anyone wanting to lend additional support to the CTR Team for the Chili Bowl can
contact Corey Tucker at: 704 467 0956. Jerry Higbie can be reached at his shop
at: 845 294 0898.

And Friday night at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, Pauch of Frenchtown, N.J., added one to his stellar list as he claimed the TQ Midget/600 cc Micro Sprint feature, which served as a preliminary for Saturday night’s Gambler’s Classic.
It was Pauch’s second career win indoors at Atlantic City. He has a previous win in a 20-lap feature.
This time, though, Pauch beat one of the best on the indoor circuit as Lou Cicconi Jr., who became the first driver to break the eight-second bracket in Thursday’s qualifying, finished in the second spot.
“Lou is always tough at these indoor races,” Pauch said. “Boy, we sure did make a race out of it.”
Actually, Pauch was the talk of the night.
At the start of the first heat race, Pauch was involved in a first turn skirmish, which ended with his car upside down. The car was rolled on its wheels and Pauch proceeded to complete the main event, earning a feature-qualifying spot in the process.
Pauch started in the third position behind front-row starters Rudy Boetticher and Jeff Heotzler.
He ran in second until a lap three restart, which found Heotzler regaining the runner-up spot. It was short-lived, as Pauch got a great start on the lap five restart.
Boetticher got loose on the ninth round, which allowed Pauch to grab the top spot.
Despite having the lead, it was far from over as Cicconi, who started sixth in the 20-car field, moved into the runner-up spot on lap 12 and pressured Pauch immediately.
A caution on lap 13 tightened the field and despite frequent attempts to get the lead, Cicconi was unsuccessful.
Mike Lichty, in fact, got by Cicconi for the second position on lap 18, but those spots were reversed on lap 23.
Cicconi made every threat to get the lead over the final two laps, but Pauch didn’t waver in his victory.
Pauch can win the Behrent’s Bonus if he elects to start 12th in Saturday
night’s feature field and claims in the 40-lap Gambler’s Classic.
The top 12 finishers will draw for their starting positions during Saturday’s
Ms. Motorsports 2009 page ant, which is taking place at the AC Convention
Center.
Cicconi, Heath Hehnly, Jon Holmquist, James Michael Friesen and Mike Tidaback won heat races.
Nick Herriven, Andrew Berkholder, Norm Hynes and Tyler Robertson won heat races for the Champ Karts.
Gary Hieber, Ricky Yetter and Billy Weaver won heat races for the Briggs and Stratton Slingshots.
Action kicks up Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with Fanfest. The TQ/600 cc Micro Sprint Eliminator is scheduled at 7:30, followed by four transfer races, Slingshot feature, Champ Kart feature and the 40-lap Gambler’s Classic.
TQ Midget/600 cc Micro Sprint Feature Finish, 25 Laps: 1. Billy Pauch; 2. Lou
Cicconi Jr.; 3. Mike Lichty; 4. Jeff Heotzler; 5. Stewart Friesen; 6. Mike
Tidaback; 7. Matt Janisch; 8. Joseph Lord Jr.; 9. Heath Hehnly; 10. Tim Proctor;
11. Ryan Smith; 12. Chris Arnold; 13. James Michael Friesen; 14. Greg Cable; 15.
Amanda Quinones; 16. Rudy Boetticher; 17. Timex Morgan; 18. Alex Bright; 19.
John Payne; 20. Jon Holmquist.

For Immediate Release
LIQUID LOU CALLS OUT STEWART AFTER ATLANTIC CITY FAST TIME
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Lou Cicconi Jr. is known for his expertise of mastering
indoor racing circles.
So it wasn’t much of a surprise when the Aston, Pa., driver posted a record-lap of 8.982 sec onds in Thursday night’s TQ Midget/600 cc Micro Sprint time trials at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, topping a field of more than 95 cars that registered time.
Cicconi did have one question after the first eight-second lap turned on the indoor oval.
“Where’s Tony?,” asked Cicconi.
Cicconi was asking the whereabouts of NASCAR Sprint Car Series racer Tony
Stewart, a good friend and indoor racing competitor.
Just three weeks ago, Cicconi was leading a preliminary feature race at the
Rumble Series event in Ft. Wayne, Ind., when Cicconi was bumped from the lead
and Stewart went on to win. Cicconi rebounded the following night and won the
Midget Car main event.
Not only did Cicconi grab the fast time, but his team car, which is driven by
Bobby Santos III, posted the second-fastest lap with a time of 9.299. Mike
Lichty was third in 9.342, Stewart Friesen was third in 9.362, NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher was fifth in 9.420 and dirt Modified
expert Billy Pauch was sixth in 9.460.
“It’s awesome to come out like that and set fast time, plus get the top two spots,” Cicconi said. “Bobby’s a good race car driver, and he didn’t need any advice from me. I’m real proud of him.”
In Briggs and Stratton Slingshot qualifying, Michael Butler of Milford, N.J., posted a fast lap of 10.722 seconds. He earned a $100 bonus named in honor the late Dick “Toby” Tobias.
Butler topped Shannon Smith (10.773), Anthony Perrego (10.836), Rick Laubach (10.874), Ryan Godown (10.985) and Willy Evernham (11.120).
Both Laubach and Godown are experienced dirt Modified drivers, while Evernham is the nephew of Ryan Evernham.
Coby Cresssinger of Selinsgrove, Pa.,=2 0set fast time in the Champ Karts with a lap of 10.106 seconds. He received a $50 bonus.
Justin Bonsignore was second in 10.132, followed by defending race champion Chris Daley (10.221), David Pantanella (10.281), Ryan Kendall (10.304) and John Hillman (10.328).
Racing action begins Friday at 7:30, which includes a TQ/600 cc Micro Sprint heats and an Eliminator race, Champ Kart heats, Slingshot heats and a 20-lap main event for the TQ/600 cc Micro Sprints.
The Gambler’s Classic culminates on Saturday evening with a TQ/600 Eliminator
race, transfer events and main events for all classes.

NEWS FROM JERRY HIGBIE RACING
GOSHEN, NY: Orange County Champion Jerry Higbie Gets In Two Practice Sessions;
Waits For Friday Night Format
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Slate Hill, New York Modified star Jerry Higbie arrived in Tulsa, Oklahoma on
Sunday in preparation for his second Chili Bowl appearance. Higbie, who is
accustomed to doing all of the hands-on work with the set-ups of his own race
cars, finds himself in unchartered territory as he is one of the hired guns on
the star-studded Cory Tucker Racing Team. Higbie had the opportunity to take
advantage of the Monday test and tune session at the Chil Bowl and moved his
racer out to the starting grid early on. With a new race car at his disposal,
Higbie quickly tried the various lines on the quarter mile raceway and was
amazed at the speed and the handling characteristics of the CTR entry. As the
session drew to a close, Higbie thought of a couple of things he would suggest
to the crew for the next session. Jason Meyers, the World of Outlaw Sprint
Series runner-up in 2008 and a teammate to Higbie, offered some suggestions as
well and collectively the hard working crew put new set-ups on both of their
race cars and proceeded out to the raceway when their numbers were called to
return to the track.
Both cars responded well to the changes and Meyers was among the quickest cars
on the raceway. Higbie was a tick behind but felt the changes that were made to
the race car really improved the handling upon entry into the turns. Higbie, who
is only racing a Midget for the second time in his racing career, was really
pleased with the car and has high hopes for a great performance when he takes to
the track for the Friday night portion of the 23rd edition of the sensational
Chili Bowl event. Until his time to race, Higbie can only sit back and watch the
proceedings and continue to learn in what he still refers to as a "dream come
true" for the 2008 Orange County Fair Speedway 358 Modified Champion.
As the practice sessions at the Chili Bowl were concluding on Monday night,
Higbie responded to a phone call from the CARQUEST Gasoline Alley Gang
TV/Internet Show in Pennsylvania and talked to Hosts Steve Pados and Randy Kane
in length about the practicing he did during the day and the seemingly unlimited
potential of the race car he was assigned for the event. Higbie did state that
since it was only his second time around in the Midget, it did take some time to
once again familiarize himself with his surroundings. In further dialogue with
Higbie, the talented Modified ace commented, "I was amazed at the power and
response of the new race car. While I realize I still have a lot to learn
regarding the workings of a Midget race car, I really did feel more comfortable
than I did a year ago and am hoping to be a quick study for my opportunity on
the track come Friday evening". Higbie further added, "This is a great team that
Corey Tucker has assembled for this event. I am elated and honored to be working
with all of the great talent on this team. I cannot thank Corey enough for once
again giving me the opportunity to race against the best of the best in the open
wheel ranks". When asked about the allure of what makes the Chili Bowl the most
prestigious open wheel race in the country, Higbie sighed and stated, "When you
walk up and down the pit roads here in the garage area, you see every top star
and crew chief or car owner you have read about or watched on TV and it puts you
in an adrenalin rush no one can describe. I have had goose bumps since I entered
the arena and probalby will until the event is over. It is a great honor to be
here".
Former two-time National Midget driver of the year Brad Kuhn won the Tuesday
night preliminary feature with a last turn, last lap pass of the talented Ricky
Stenhouse Jr. Steve Buckwalter from the ARDC ranks was a solid third in the
event. Casey Shuman and Bobby East completed the top five, but only the top
three earn a ticket into the Saturday night main event.
Four-time Chili Bowl winner Sammy Swindell won the first ever Race of Champions
event in Tulsa. Dave Darland and 2006 winner Timmie McCreadie completed the top
three finishers in the 20-lap scramble.
Hunter Schuerenberg, a teammate to Higbie on the CTR team, competed on Tuesday
night and while 7th in his heat race, worked hard at making some changes on the
race car and he responded well with a second place finish in the C-Main, was
fourth in the B-Main, but was unfortunately the first car out of the A-Main
feature and credited with a 24th-place finish in the final rundown.

For Immediate Release:
Jeremy Miller Firms Up 2009 Plans Thanks To Increased Support From USA Spares,
Inc.
GETTYSBURG, PA – Jan. 13, 2009 – Thanks to increased support from USA Spares,
Inc., Jeremy Miller is ready for a big 2009 season on the Northeast’s dirt Late
Model circuit.
With Miller’s long, successful run as the driver of the Buckler Motorsports No.
24 ending following the 2008 season due to team owner Charles Buckler’s decision
to disband his racing operation, USA Spares, Inc.’s Stewart Byers stepped up
with sponsorship to make a full-fledged assault possible for Miller in ’09.
Miller, 37, of Gettysburg, Pa., will return to the owner-operator ranks in 2009,
campaigning equipment from his own Jeremy Miller Racing, Inc. stable with the
primary backing of USA Spares, Inc. and his family’s Miller Fabrication, Inc. He
plans to maintain the same type of regional special-event schedule that has
brought him plenty of headlines in recent seasons.
“I’m real happy to have a direction for 2009,” said Miller, who learned in
December that Buckler was closing his team’s doors. “I wasn’t sure how we’d be
able to go back out on our own and put together a program that coul d compete at
the level I have with Buckler Motorsports, but with USA Spares and Miller
Fabrication upping their support I’m confident that we’ll have the resources to
get the job done this season.”
A well-respected precision machine shop located in Carlisle, Pa., USA Spares,
Inc. (www.usaspares.com) became
affiliated with Miller when it debuted as a sponsor of Buckler Motorsports prior
to the start of the 2008 season. The company produces tools to complete machines
for clients across the country.
Miller will move to a new chassis manufacturer in 2009, running a Victory Circle
Chassis by Moyer. The cars are produced by the Bakersfield, Calif.-based shop in
association with dirt Late Model legend Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., whose
success and knowledge have brought an ever-expanding roster of drivers to
Victory Circle machines.
“I’m very excited about working with Billy Moyer,” said Miller, who plans to
pick up his first Victory Circle car from Moyer this month and add a second
mount to his team later in the season. “It seems like people who are running
good these days have somebody with a lot of experience helping them, so I’m
hoping that being involved with Billy will be a big asset for our program.”
Miller will continue his relationship with Bullock Race Engines for power under
the hood of his car and he is remaining in the American Racer tire camp. In
addition, he will keep the No. 24 on his equipment, which will also sport
sponsorship from Genesis Racing Shocks and Speed Wrapz.
One of the biggest luxuries afforded by USA Spares, Inc.’s backing is Miller’s
hiring of Derrick Hurley to serve as his fulltime mechanic.
“I’m really looking forward to having a young, eager guy like Derrick working
fulltime on my car,” said Miller. “I’ve been getting burned out trying to work a
job (at the family business) and also do all the work needed in the shop to go
racing, so having Derrick on board is going to take a lot of pressure off me. I
think it’s going to allow us to be more prepared and run better.”
Miller is anticipating that he’ll make his 2009 debut in late March or early
April. He is plotting a schedule of special events at tracks within a reasonable
driving distance of his home.
“We’ll run with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, MACS, the new All-Star
(Circuit of Champions) Series (formerly IRS) and Lucas (Oil Series) when they’re
in our area,” said Miller. “We’re looking at any high-paying races close to
home, like the new Pennsylvania Late Model Speedweek (scheduled for June).
There’s a lot of races we can run that pay well without traveling very far.”
Miller brings a sparkling resume into the 2009 season. A dirt Late Model regular
since 1998, he’s won 62 times in the division, including a $20,000 victory in
the 2006 FallFest at Pennsylvania’s Challenger Raceway; four Hub-City and two
Octoberfest triumphs at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway; a career-first WoO LMS score
in 2008 at Virginia Motor Speedway; and special-show wins at such tracks
Winchester (Va.) Speedway, Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park and Maryland’s Potomac
Speedway. He was the Northeast’s winningest dirt Late Model driver in 2004 and
2006.
Fifty-five of Miller’s dirt Late Model wins came behind the wheel of the Buckler
Motorsports entry, which he began driving late in the 2002 season. He credits
Charles and Genny Buckler with taking his career to another level.
“They were super car owners for so many years,” said Miller, who will continue
to use Genny Buckler’s enclosed trailer during the 2009 season. “I can’t thank
them enough for what they did for my career. We had a lot of fun and success and
I’m going to miss racing for them.”

NEWS FROM JERRY HIGBIE RACING
GOSHEN, NY: "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie Heads To Tulsa With High Powered CTR
Racing Team
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
With just a few days remaining until the roar of the screaming four cylinder
motors permeate the arena air, Slate Hill, New York Modified star Jerry Higbie
once again is poised and ready as he sets his sights on another trip to the Quik
Trip Center Tulsa Expo Raceway for the 23rd running of the sensational Chili
Bowl event, set to stage from January 13th to the 17th with the 12th being seat
aside for the record breaking 293 entries that have signed in for the most
prestigious open wheel racing event in the country. Last year Higbie fulfilled a
few of his dreams in racing as the second generation speedster was able to
partner up and obtain a ride for the 22nd Annual Chili Bowl and made the most of
the opportunity by adapting well to the powerful 4-cylinder creations and in his
rookie attempt was able to secure a heat win at the event, his first time ever
in a Midget race car. Higbie did well the entire week of racing and even though
he didn't make the transfer for the Saturday night main event, his loyal legion
of fans were quite proud of his solid performance in Tulsa. The event proved to
be a jump start for the "Statesman from Slate Hill" as Higbie rolled through his
2008 racing season with great success and along the way captured the 358
Modified Championship at the Orange County Fair Speedway and secured third place
point finishes in the Big Block Modifieds at both OCFS and the Accord Speedway.
Accord Speedway Promoter Gary Palmer and his wife Donna attend the annual event
and sponsor the first three laps of the Chili Bowl 50-lap main event annually.
Higbie will be hoping for more of the same in 2009 as once again the soft spoken
champion will be part of the six-car powerhouse team Corey Tucker Racing (CTR)
has assembled for the 23rd running of the prestigious event. Tucker has gone
through numerous avenues of the racing community to partner up a tremendous
championship caliber team for the event that in addition to Higbie will be led
by the runner-up on the World Of Outlaws Sprint Tour in 2008, the crowd
pleasing, sensational Jason Meyers from Clovis, California. Along with Meyers
comes the transplanted Californian now living in Noblesville, Indiana, the
multi-talented Bryan Clauson, who comes on board with CTR after capturing a
fourth place finish last year at the Chili Bowl in one of the Keith Kunz entries
and was a recent winner at the inaugural "Twas The Midgets Before Christmas"
Midget event at the Kemper Arena and winning more than $13, 000.00 for his
efforts that weekend. Another talented teenager hailing out of Sikeston,
Missouri, Hunter Schuerenberg, joins the team after a tremendous year in 2008
once he joined forces with the Jeff Walker Sprint Car team. Billy Wilburn, the
NASCAR Crew Chief, turned racer turned Crew Chief again, joins the CTR team and
will make his first start in an open wheel ride since 2003 and his first Chili
Bowl appearance since 1998. The latest addition to the team is the young
speedster out of California, Ryan Kaplan, and all six drivers stand a very good
chance of making it to the A-Main on Saturday night.
Higbie, who remains without question one of the more popular racing figures in
the Northeast, is looking forward to his second appearance at the event. While
his "dream came true" from a year ago to compete in the event, Higbie is quick
to point out the most important goal for the event is to make the transfer into
the Saturday night main event, enjoy a bit of luck and to win the coveted
"Golden Driller" award that goes along with winning the 50-lap main event.
Higbie is well aware of the fact he will be going up against the very best in
the business and to do well in the event will most assuredly raise one's
identity in the racing world. Higbie will be at a disadvantage as when the
pairings came out for the event, he was designated for the racign action on
Friday night, traditionally one of the toughest nights in the entire week in
Tulsa. Some of the names already entered into the event that is at 293 entries
currently and counting include last year's winner "The Demon" Damion Gardner,
current USAC Sprint and Silver Crown Champion Jerry Coons Jr, 2008 USAC Midget
Champion Cole Whitt, and a host of quality open wheelers with names such as
Kasey Kahne, Danny Lasosoki, ARCA Champion Justin Allgaier, Ricky Stenhouse Jr,
Jon Stanbrough, JJ Yeley, Brad Loyet, Dave Darland, Jesse "The Rocket" Hockett,
Shane Cottle, Chad Boat, Joey Saldana, Levi Jones, Dustin Morgan, Brady Bacon,
and former winners Cory Kruseman, Samy Swindell, Tim McCreadie, Jay Drake and
Tracy Hines. Last year, a record 274 entries signed in to do battle and that
record and as expected, that record fell by the wayside two weeks ago.
Higbie, who stays in close touch with car owner Corey Tucker throughout the
year, is excited about his pairing once again with CTR. Tucker is a former
Wallkill, New York resident who has since moved to the South where he works for
Penske Racing as the Car Chief for the NASCAR Sprint Cup #2 and it's driver Kurt
Busch. Tucker, whose Mom still resides in Wallkill, worked on the Modifieds in
the past at the Orange County Fair Speedway for Team 74, (Joe Knoth and Steve
Hastings) and Tucker also has spent some time working with 10 time Accord
Speedway Champion Rich Ricci Jr. Tucker takes advantage of a few rare off weeks
by returning home to visit and take in some of the fine racing found at the
Accord and Orange County Fair Speedways.
Tucker utilized the 39 number exclusively last year but this year the cars will
be more in tune with the signature number of each driver selected to be part of
the CTR team. Higbie will be buckling into a signature numbered 97J car which
will be a Bullet Chassis and featuring some Mopar power bolted between the
rails. Meyers will race a signature numbered 14J car that is a Spike Chassis and
featuring Gaerte Power. Clauson will utilize the number 47 and will also utilize
a Spike Chassis but his racer will be sporting Esslinger power. Schuerenberg
will drive the 39H with a Spike Chassis and Esslinger power and Wilburn will
driver the 39B which is a Bullet Chassis fitted with a Fontana powerplant.
Kaplan wil utilize the number 27 on his mount. Sponsorship for the CTR Team
includes the Ryan Newman Foundation, K&N Filters, Rod End Supply and Brown &
Miller.
In a conversation with Higbie, the talented Modified ace commented, "I am
looking forward to the Chili Bowl. Last year we were able to open a few eyes at
the event with the heat race win and from the initial outing, I feel I have
learned alot in watching how the cars and drivers perform. This is a great team
that Corey Tucker has put together and I am elated to be working with such great
talent on this team. I cannot thank Corey enough for once again giving me the
opportunity to race against the best of the best in the open wheel ranks. It
still boils down to being quick right away, getting a favorable starting spot
and then making the most of the opportunity by not making any mistakes and
driving forward hard to get in to the show". Higbie was a recent in-house guest
at the CARQUEST Gasoline Alley TV/Internet Show in the Lehigh Valley and did a
great interview and spent the evening trading conversations with phone guests
Tim McCreadie, Billie Pauch Jr, Jessica Zemken and another in-house guest,
Modified talent Mike Mammana.
Higbie and his new "HigFab" racing shop, located on the outskirts of Goshen, New
York, continues to fabricate all of the necessary components for today's racers.
Higbie has found himself immersed in the business at hand as his new shop is
filled with racers in all forms of build or re-build.
Anyone wanting to lend additional support to the CTR Team for the Chili Bowl can

anywhere.
She currently only has her own 360 winged sprint car available and is a
second-generation driver.
Zemken has experience and is interested in racing a 410 sprint car, big block or

Her next ride is coming up in the Chilli Bowl in January and she is willing to
travel. Anything you can do to spread the word would be appreciated.
Weekly competition is her goal for 2009.
