RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY WORKS WITH LOCAL HOTELS TO PROMOTE REDUCED LODGING RATES FOR MAY NASCAR WEEKEND

Program Focuses on Reduced Rates and Reduced or Eliminated Minimum Night Stay Requirements

RICHMOND (3/17/09) – Richmond International Raceway is working with hotels in the Richmond region to promote special lodging rates and offers to race fans for the NASCAR Doubleheader weekend May 1-2 at America’s Premier Short Track.

In conjunction with the Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Richmond International Raceway is reaching out to area hotel owners and management and offering the opportunity to promote compelling lodging deals to race fans, which will include being listed on the track’s official web site www.rir.com.

The hotel offers for the May 1-2 weekend can be found online at www.rir.com/hotelspecialoffers/.

“We focus on providing the best fan experience in racing, and after restructuring ticket prices for the 2009 season, we still wanted to do something more for our fans due to the current economic conditions,” said track president Doug Fritz. “The total guest experience, both at America’s Premier Short Track and while in the Richmond region, is important to us.

“Richmond International Raceway is part of a great community, one that has always embraced race fans traveling to this area, and a good number of hotels have stepped up to provide excellent deals for the visitors coming to Richmond for the May 1-2 NASCAR race weekend. I’m proud of what the hoteliers have done for our fans with this project, and I think it once again shows the commitment of this community to the overall experience at Richmond International Raceway.”

On the initial list of hotels offering significant deals, some of the 2009 race weekend rates are 20-50% lower compared to 2008 race weekend prices, and many of the hotels on the list have reduced or eliminated the minimum stay requirement for the upcoming May race weekend. The hotel program is another way Richmond International Raceway is working to make race weekends at America’s Premier Short Track more affordable and enjoyable for its fans.

“It’s an ongoing and evolving program,” Fritz added. “I encourage all area hotels to join Richmond International Raceway in a worthy program to support our fans. It’s not too late to get on the list.”

Tickets for the NASCAR doubleheader weekend, May1-2, at Richmond International Raceway, are on sale now. Saturday night’s Crown Royal Presents The Russ Friedman 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race start at $40 and can be purchased by logging on to www.rir.com or calling 866-455-RACE (7223). The weekend starts with practice and Wawa Pole Qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as practice and pole qualifying for the NASCAR Nationwide Series, followed by the Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Friday’s tickets are $45 (reserved) and $35 (general admission) in advance. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult in general admission sections on Friday only. RUSS FRIEDMAN, WINNER OF CROWN ROYAL’S “YOUR NAME HERE CONTEST,” REFLECTS ON HIS RECENT CELEBRITY STATUS

The winner of Crown Royal’s third “Your Name Here” contest visited Richmond this week (photo attached) to unveil the official race logo on Richmond International Raceway’s Pace Car. Russ Friedman, a former U.S. Marine, received two Purple Hearts from wounds suffered in Iraq. While Friedman’s name is on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race (the Crown Royal Presents The Russ Friedman 400), he wants everyone to know that his intentions are to honor all of the men and women who are serving America overseas. Friedman reflected on his past week, which started with a trip to Daytona for the winner unveiling and watching the Daytona 500 from Jamie McMurray’s pit box, followed by a trip to Richmond.

“The past few days have been a whirlwind—a good whirlwind—with all of the television, radio and newspaper interviews. One of the best parts was unveiling the official logo on the Pace Car. Between the events in Daytona and Richmond, I had the time of my life and it got better with every minute. I can never thank the great people at Crown Royal and Richmond International Raceway enough for this opportunity.”

Fans can join Russ at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, May 2, “under the lights” for the Crown Royal Presents The Russ Friedman 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Tickets start at $40 and can be purchased by logging on to www.rir.com  or calling the ticket office at 866-455-RACE (7223). Richmond…It’s Racing Perfection!

CROWN ROYAL® AWARDS PURPLE HEART RECIPIENT NAMING RIGHTS TO NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Grand Prize Winner Dedicates Race to All Who Serve Our Country

DAYTONA, FL, February 13, 2009 – An elaborate ceremony today at Daytona International Speedway® revealed Russell Friedman, a two-time Purple Heart recipient, as the grand-prize winner of the third annual Crown Royal® Presents the “Your Name Here” 400 contest. When Friedman accepted the prize – naming rights to the May 2 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway – he spoke of how his efforts could not be recognized alone and that it was important to honor all the individuals who serve our country.

Friedman lives in Huntington Station, NY, and was chosen from a group of seven finalists from around the country based on a submission that detailed his experience serving in Iraq. The race at Richmond International Raceway on May 2, 2009 will now be titled “Crown Royal Presents the Russell Friedman 400.”

“Winning the Crown Royal ‘Your Name Here’ 400 contest is absolutely amazing and truly an overwhelming experience,” said Friedman. “Not only do I get to live out one of my dreams, but I get a chance to help recognize all the American soldiers who defend our freedoms on a day-to-day basis and definitely deserve a toast with Crown Royal.”

Throughout the contest, finalists submitted online or video entries describing an honorable act or achievement worthy of toasting with Crown Royal Canadian whisky. Nearly 5,000 entries were received, detailing a myriad of achievements from the heroics of firefighters to dedicated fathers going the extra mile.

“Crown Royal is excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our consumers and race fans by honoring them with a sports experience fit for a king,” said Ami-Lynn Bakshi, vice president, Crown Royal. “We’re looking forward to helping Russell share his moment in the spotlight with all the individuals who selflessly serve this country. The Russell Friedman 400 will be an event for all to remember.”

The ceremony to unveil Friedman as the winner included a 20-foot replica Crown Royal bottle featuring his name as part of the Richmond race logo and was draped with an oversized iconic purple bag for two days leading up to the announcement. A countdown clock ticked away while seven finalists waited with great anticipation as NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray and representatives from Crown Royal and Richmond International Raceway pulled down the bag to reveal the grand-prize winner’s name.

The Russell Friedman 400 will be incorporated into all official race logos, used for thousands of pieces of merchandise and recognized by NASCAR’s broadcast and media partners as the race’s official title. In addition, Friedman will take part in pre-race festivities at Richmond International Raceway, and participate in the trophy presentation to the race winner in Gatorade Victory Lane. During the race weekend he will receive VIP accommodations for himself and a guest.

Leading up to the big day in Richmond, Crown Royal will continue to remind fans to "Be A Champion. Drink Responsibly." through Safe Rides Home designated driver initiatives and other programming designed to reinforce the importance of drinking responsibly.

“On behalf of Richmond International Raceway, congratulations to Russell and a sincere thank you to him and all the members of our nation’s armed forces to whom this race is dedicated,” said Richmond International Raceway President Doug Fritz. “The partnership with Crown Royal and the ‘Your Name Here’ contest has been a huge success, and Russell is sure to be another great winner. We look forward to continuing this great tradition by having Russell join us for an exciting weekend at America’s Premier Short Track.”

The 2009 race season at Richmond International Raceway starts with a NASCAR Doubleheader weekend May 1-2, highlighted by the Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race “Under The Lights” on Saturday night, May 2. The 2009 season marks the 57th year Richmond International Raceway has hosted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing.

The weekend also features the Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday night, May 1. On-track action begins Friday with practice for both races, followed by pole qualifying for the Lipton Tea 250 and Wawa Pole Qualifying for the Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400.

Clint Bowyer is the defending champion of the Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400 after driving through the memorable incident between Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the closing laps. The race also featured local favorite Denny Hamlin leading a track record 381 laps before falling out of contention with a late-race tire problem.

Hamlin, however, delighted his hometown supporters Friday night with his first victory at Richmond International Raceway in the Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

Crown Royal To Announce Your Name Here Contest Winner Soon

The winner of Crown Royal’s third annual Your Name Here contest will be announced on Friday, February 13 at noon during SpeedWeeks at Daytona International Speedway, unveiling the official name of the Saturday, May 2, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, which is—for now—named the Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400.

This marks the third year of the contest, which crowned its inaugural winner in 2007, Jim Stewart, and second winner in 2008, Dan Lowry. Both Stewart and Lowry were included in the race names (Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 and Crown Royal Presents The Dan Lowry 400), to go along with a week-long VIP treatment, which included being Grand Marshal, attending NASCAR’s drivers meeting, the trophy presentation in Gatorade Victory Lane, tickets for friends and family and much more.

Entrants were asked to submit their chronicles of “CROWN-WORTHY” moments, defined as a memorable occasion worthy of a responsible celebration or toast. Stewart was chosen based on his recollections of growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own boat with a toast to his father. Lowry recalled a moment when he was working far from home in Venezuela and wandered into a local restaurant, where he didn’t recognize any of the labels behind the bar. He caught sight of the iconic purple and gold Crown Royal bag, and it immediately reminded him of the fond memories of home.

“We have the best, most loyal fans in sports,” said Richmond International Raceway president Doug Fritz. “We recognize that times are tough and we want to offer our fans a lower entry point to be able to continue to enjoy the thrill of live NASCAR racing.”

Fans currently seated in these areas affected by the price restructuring have already been contacted by raceway officials. Fans seated in other areas of the facility who are interested in relocating to the Henrico Grandstand can do so by calling the Richmond International Raceway ticket office at 866-455-RACE (7223).

Offering more affordable seating while keeping the same high level of entertainment and on-track excitement is part of Richmond International Raceway’s continued effort to provide the best fan-friendly experience in motorsports. Race fans will also continue to enjoy free automobile parking on raceway property, as well as the ability to bring their own food and drinks into the grandstands in approved bags/coolers.

The May 1-2 NASCAR doubleheader weekend kicks off the 2009 racing season at America’s Premier Short Track. The Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series will open the weekend “under the lights” on Friday night, May 1. On Saturday, May 2, three-time reigning Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and more will battle defending race winner Clint Bowyer in the Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

Ticket’s for Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race are on sale now and start at $40. Tickets can be purchased by calling 866-455-RACE (7223), by visiting www.rir.com  or at the Richmond International Raceway ticket office at 600 E. Laburnum Avenue.
