Brad Grim Racing News
NEW TRIPOLI, PA - Brad Grim Race To Runnerup Finish At Five Mile Point Speedway
On Saturday Night
by Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Coplay, Pennsylvania's Brad Grim raced to a strong second place finish on
Saturday night at the Five Mile Point Speedway. Grim began the event from his
seventh starting position and picked his way through the field lap after lap as
he put the Brad Grim Racing signature number 611 race car through it's paces.
Grim moved into the runnerup slot three quarters of the way through the feature
event but ran out of laps before he muster a strong challenge to eventual
feature winner Eric Stephens Jr who secured his first career win at the
speedway. Shaun Walker finished the event in third place with Joey Colsten
racing to fourth. Outside invader Bob Lineman Jr made a strong showing at the
speedway as the Garden State based driver rallied to finish in fifth position.
For the Grim Team, the 2008 racing season has been a roller coaster ride of
sorts right from the very start. While not receiving the performances they would
have liked or deemed necessary from their newer primary 2007 chassis racer, the
team went to working overtime in the shop and readied the 2006 championship car
for battle at Five Mile Point and with it hoping to change the team's fortunes
around in a positive manner. Shelving the newer racer, the trusty, older racer
has provided the remedy the team was seeking as race after race the team is once
again challenging for their fair share of the prize offerings at the speedway.
The recap of the past few racing events show a fourth place finish on June 25th
and a great third place effort on July fifth. On July 12th the team suffered
with a 16th place finish but had raced with the leaders most of the night until
a lapped car pushed some excess moisture to where Grim was running and the
disappointing result was a spin that put Grim in the back of the field late in
the race. The July 26th race brought another strong runnerup finish and the show
on August 2nd resulted in a 12th place finish after being involved in a mix-up
and coming back from the rear of the field.
The team had made the decision at the very start of the season not to run for
points at the speedway due to work committments and the soaring costs the
National fuel crisis had imposed on the Pennsylvania based team. While the team
struggled early on with the newer racer, the proud, hard working team found the
time and made the effort to bring back their older more reliable racer to
provide a good showing for their sponsors and fans wherever they compete. The
team is among the top ten point getters at the speedway even though they have no
aspirations for the crown this year or have made it to all of the events on the
racing schedule. The team is hoping to close out the Five Mile Point season with
more of the same solid performances they enjoyed last Saturday night and have
thought about making some plans to travel to some additional speedways later in
the season should the budget hold up.
Grim, who has averaged three wins per season at the speedway for the past three
years as well as earning the 2006 Sportsman Championship, is still seeking the
first win for the team in 2008. The talented young charger has been a fixture at
Five Mile Point for the past few years and truly enjoys the tight competition
the speedway provides and is hoping the switch back to the 2006 car will be the
ticket to visit victory lane before the season comes to a close. As always Grim
straps himself behind the belts of the family owned signature numbered 611 Dirt
Wheels Chassis/Davey George powered race car for the weekly racing action at the
Kirkwood, New York racing facility. For the popular Grim it is his fourth full
year in racing, having spent the three years prior in part time roles driving at
other speedways in the Northeast.
The Brad Grim Racing Team efforts are headed crew headed up by former top racing
talent and current car owner and Crew Chief Gary Grim. Also playing a major part
on the team is Book Keeper Stephanie Barton, as she works hard at keeping the
low-buck team within the budget restraints. Longtime crew members Jason Kern,
Bill German, and Tom Doyle have been faithful supporters of the Grim racing and
make the weekly trip to the speedway lending their full support to the team.
Brad Grim Racing has expanded their horizons for the 2008 racing season. In
addition to preparing the bodies for their own cars, they now offer their
services to any customers who need a complete racing body or they can replace
any panel on any type of Modified-Sportsman race car. For further information,

loyalty and assistance in helping with their racing endeavors. TR Kovacs

NEWS FROM JERRY HIGBIE RACING
GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Sensational In OCFS 358 Modified Win; Third In Big
Block Run
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Slate Hill, New York Modified star Jerry Higbie started from 10th position last
Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway and wasted little time in
slicing his way through the stellar field of competitors to take control of the
race lead and capture his second 358 Small Block Modified win at the speedway in
2008. Higbie drove the Affordable Transmission owned number 17 to the decisive
win and with it bolstered the stronghold he has had on the division for the past
month of racing. Higbie was followed across the line by Johnny Guarino with Tim
Hindley finishing for third place money. Chuck McKee was fourth and Tommy Meier
rounded out the top five running order for the event.
With the win, Higbie leads the 358 Small Block rankings with 476 points. Tim
Hindley is sitting in second place in the points chase with 432 markers. Johnny
Guarino sits in third place with 384 points and defending track champion in the
division David Van Horn rests in fourth place with 379 tallies. Craig Mitchell
completes the top five point getters with 369 points. With just two races
remaining in the points hunt, the final two races will be critical in
determining the champion. For Higbie, the consistency he has shown throughout
the 2008 season must remain with him for the final two events as he seeks to
earn his third small block title at the speedway.
Higbie began his run in the Big Block portion of the evening from the eighth
starting position. Finding a couple of different lanes available to him early
on, Higbie was quick to take advantage of the racing room and worked his way
into third place during the early and mid stages of the event. Losing a position
back to fourth to Jeff Hoetzler Sr, Higbie pressed on and finally was able to
move by Hoetzler late in the race when the Heotzler racer soured. Mike Kolka
scored the win with Donnie Wilson capturing second place money. Higbie was third
with Chris Whitehead finishing in fourth and Colin Jackson rounding out the top
five.
The Big Block points break down with David Van Horn leading the way with 674
tallies. Chuck McKee is a close second with 637 points. On the basis of his
strong performance, Jerry Higbie moved into third place with 612 points and
dropping Hoetzler back to fourth with 603 markers. Rookie Michael Storms rounds
out the top five with 591 points. With some drivers such as Mike Kolka and
Donnie Wilson coming off big performances on Saturday night and point leaders
Van Horn and McKee suffering from off nights, the points picture again will
prove to be critical for the final two weeks of the season. Higbie will need to
be at the top of his game and hope for some help to cut down the Van Horn margin
in the final two events.
With the Accord Speedway suffering from two consecutive rainouts, the Accord
Modified point standings remain as they were with Andy Bachetti leading the way
with 658 points. Rich Ricci Jr is currently second with 599 points and Higbie is
hot on his heels with 586 tallies. John McGill is fourth with 548 points and
Jackie Brown Jr completed the top five with 511 points, one digit more than
sixth place driver Danny Tyler who has 510 markers. With three point shows
remaining in the Accord season, again Higbie will need to close out the points
chase with three strong outings and hope for some help from the supporting cast
of talent that make up the Modified roster.
This week will find the Higbie race team back at Accord Speedway for the Friday
night racing action as Camera and Autograph night takes center stage at the
raceway on August 22nd. The team will then move over to OCFS for the Saturday
night racing.
Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule finds him in the thick of the racing
action as he challenges for the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway
Championships this year. For the Accord events, Higbie will race the family
owned signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG
Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered
47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to
steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who
have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit,
Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza
have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery,
Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the
Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind
the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small
Block title at OCFS.
Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their
support and well wishes as the team remains in the championship hunt at both
speedways
Higbie's business, HigFab, has been busy throughout the new racing season
helping many teams with their racing programs. For more information regarding
the services and capablities of the highly trained HigFab Staff, please contact

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chub Frank Still Looking To Bust Out Of Slump After Visit To Screven Motor
Speedway
BEAR LAKE, PA – Chub Frank is still looking for a slump-busting outing.
The veteran racer known as ‘Chubzilla’ failed to pick up some much-needed
momentum on Saturday night, finishing a quiet 12th in the 50-lap World of
Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.
A trouble-filled time-trial run signaled the start of a difficult visit to the
Peach State for Chub. He timed a dismal 33rd out of 34 drivers thanks to an
unexpected mechanical problem that left him unable to smoothly negotiate the
three-eighths-mile oval.
“The three-wheel brake switch was on backwards,” said Chub, who slid high in the
corners on both of his qualifying circuits. “We don’t know exactly what the heck
happened. I know we built the car together in a hurry, but we shouldn’t have had
that problem.
“The right-front wheel was just hanging up (during time trials) and it shoved
over the cushion. We only needed three-wheel brakes, not four.”
Buried at the rear of the night’s first heat due to his qualifying woes, Chub
advanced only to a sixth-place finish and missed transferring by two spots. He
made the feature cut with a second-place finish in the first B-Main, then
improved from the 19th starting spot to finish 12th (one lap down) in the A-Main
behind the wheel of his Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star Performance/Corry
Laser/Slavic Corporation/Farr MotorSports/Lake Shore Paving/Custom Race Engines
Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1*
“We had everything figured out by time we got to the feature,” said Chub. “But
we were so far behind, we couldn’t catch back up. You can’t get behind when
you’re running against this kind of competition.”
Chub also competed in WoO LMS action on Friday night at Fayetteville (N.C.)
Motor Speedway, but rain during the first B-Main forced officials to postpone
the remainder of the program to Tues., Oct. 7. Chub is scheduled to start 11th
in the 50-lap A-Main after finishing third in a heat race at the
four-tenths-mile oval.
The 12th-place finish at Screven dropped Chub one spot in the WoO LMS points
standings, to fifth. He’s now 226 points behind leader Darrell Lanigan.
Chub stayed in Georgia following Screven’s event, parking at fellow tour regular
Shane Clanton’s shop in Locust Grove, Ga., to spend some time working on his
equipment in preparation for this week’s WoO LMS events at Volunteer Speedway in
Bulls Gap, Tenn. (‘Scorcher’ presented by Alltel Wireless on Wednesday and
Thursday) and K-C Raceway in Alma, Ohio (Saturday). Frank and his crew enjoyed a
relaxing Sunday barbeque and pool party hosted by Clanton, who also entertained
the Tim Fuller and Clint Smith teams.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Walking On Air: Mike Knight Wins First-Ever IRS Event At Eriez Speedway & Grabs
Lead In Alltel Ohio Speedweek All-Star Contest
RIPLEY, NY –Mike Knight finally has that first big Super Late Model victory he’s
been chasing.
The 21-year-old sensation from Ripley, N.Y., broke through on Sunday night,
capturing the 50-lap Independent Racing Series (IRS) event on his home turf at
Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa.
“Our whole team couldn’t be any happier,” Knight said after pocketing a
career-high $5,000 first-place prize at the one-third-mile oval where he reigned
as the 2007 Super Late Model champion. “We’ve been trying so hard to win a
special show this year and now we’ve done it.”
It was a command performance by the driver known as ‘Hollywood.’ Starting fourth
in his familiar family-owned Rocket No. 9K, Knight surged forward to take the
lead from Brent Rhebergen just past the race’s halfway point and never looked
back.
“Only than finishing fourth in the dash because we went too soft on tires, we
did everything right all night,” said Knight, who registered his first career
IRS victory and his fourth overall triumph of 2008 at Eriez. “I was a little
worried when I got up to second and Rhebergen was already checked out on me (in
the lead), but I knew our car was real good so I figured he must have been on
soft tires.
“Well, once my 48s (American Racer tires) started working I caught right up to
him, passed him and then checked out. I ran side-by-side with Richie Gardner for
a while when I was lapping him late in the race because I knew nobody could pass
me if we were racing two-wide, but they told me Scott Johnson (the eventual
runner-up) was pretty far back anyway.”
Knight, who still sits sixth in the IRS points standings despite dropping off as
a regular midway through the 2008 season to retool his racing program, felt his
run to the checkered flag was a sign that he’s maturing as a driver.
“We’ve run a lot of 50-lap races this year and I’ve learned a lot,” said Knight.
“I realized that you can’t use up all your stuff running too hard early in the
race, so I was patient (at Eriez) and kept the car under me. I had plenty of car
left after halfway.”
Adding more luster to Knight’s evening at Eriez, he jumped in Chris Ottoway’s
Limited Late Model immediately after the IRS Victory Lane ceremonies were
completed and charged from the 12th starting spot to win the division’s 20-lap
feature in dominating fashion.
A former regular in Eriez’s Limited Late Model class, Knight accepted a ride
offer for the night from Ottoway, who is sidelined by a back injury he suffered
recently after being thrown off a live bull. Ottoway is one of Knight’s sponsors
and keeps his Limited Late Model in Knight’s race shop.
Knight also learned on Monday that he had taken the outright lead in the Alltel
Ohio Speedweek All-Star voting by a slight margin, holding 16% of the vote to
Robbie Blair’s 14%. A $10,000 prize goes to the winner of the contest, which
allows fans to vote for their favorite driver once a day through Sept. 9 at
www.AlltelAllStar.com.
The only down point of Knight’s weekend was his Saturday-night visit to
Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y. He finished 25th in the 25-lap Super Late
Model feature after a slap of the outside wall eliminated him on lap 11 as he
was battling for the lead with eventual winner Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs and John Lobb.
Knight will head back out on the road with the IRS tour this Friday night (Aug.
22) for a 50-lap event at The Rock/Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, Md.
He also plans to go for another win at Eriez Speedway in a regular show on
Sunday night (Aug. 24).
An up-and-coming dirt Late Model driver whose breakout 2007 season was
highlighted by a points title at Eriez Speedway, Knight has an ambitious
schedule of 70-plus races across the region planned with his family-owned team
in 2008. His operation carries sponsorship from Arrowhead Wine Cellars, Mobilia
Fruit Farm, Ottaway’s Auto Parts, Ottaway’s Auto Body, Knight Farms, NYPenn
Surveying, TeCulver Contracting, Ripley Machine & Tool, Genesis Shocks, Slavic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mike Knight Has Quiet Weekend But Receives Good News In Alltel Ohio Speedweek
All-Star Contest
RIPLEY, NY –Mike Knight experienced a quiet weekend on the local racing scene,
but off the track he received some good news about his pursuit of the $10,000
Alltel Ohio Speedweek All-Star prize.
The 21-year-old dirt Late Model standout from Ripley, N.Y., has emerged as a
frontrunner in the Alltel-sponsored contest, which features an on-line poll that
pits the 15 drivers who scored a top-five finish in the recent World of Outlaws
Late Model Alltel Ohio Speedweek events. He is in a virtual dead-heat for the
10-grand check that goes to the top vote-getter at the close of the contest on
Sept. 9, sitting tied atop the rankings with fellow regional racer Robbie Blair
of Titusville, Pa. – both at 16 percent of the vote through Aug. 13.
Fans can vote once a day for Knight by logging on to www. AlltelAllStar.com.
Voting also automatically enters fans in a drawing for a $500 Alltel Wireless
gift card.
“We’re doing everything we can to round up votes for the Alltel All-Star
contest,” said Knight, one of the nation’s most talented young dirt Late Model
drivers. “So far, so good, but there’s a long way to go. We have to keep up the
momentum and keep the votes coming to us – that $10,000 would be a real big help
to our team.”
Knight raced his family-owned Rocket No. 9K just once last weekend – and it
wasn’t a memorable outing. Making an appearance close to home in a regular
weekly program on Saturday night (Aug. 9) at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y.,
the personable driver known as ‘Hollywood’ completed just eight laps of the
25-lap Super Late Model feature. He was credited with a 26th-place finish after
dropping out with a broken right-front tie-rod.
“We weren’t in the handicapping rotation so we had to start last (10th) in our
heat, but we came up through to finish fourth,” Knight said of his evening at
Stateline. “I started 14th in the feature and got up to about 10th before I got
into the wall because I was trying to ru n really high on the track. I think
that bent the tie-road and then it broke a couple laps later.
“We were running decent, but I don’t know how it would’ve turned out.”
Knight had planned to run on Sunday night at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., but
he found himself with a day off after the program was washed out by rain.
This week Knight’s focus will be on the 50-lap, $5,000-to-win Independent Racing
Series (IRS) event on Sunday night (Aug. 17) at Eriez Speedway. He has tentative
plans to compete in a regular show on Saturday night (Aug. 16) at Stateline
Speedway.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Following Frustrating North-South 100 Outing, Chub Frank Focuses On Strong
Finish To World of Outlaws Late Model Series Campaign
BEAR LAKE, PA – Chub Frank just wants to put his assault on the 2008 North-South
100 at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky., behind him.
The winner of the crown-jewel dirt Late Model event in 2002 failed to make the
cut for last Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
A-Main, falling victim to a qualifying format that didn’t sit well with him.
“We went down there thinking that the time trials would be straight-up like
they’ve been in the past for the North-South,” said Chub. “They decided to
change it to group qualifying (drivers time-trialed only against the 15-16
rivals in their respective groups) once we got there, and I don’t agree with
that. I’ve never been a fan of group qualifying because it’s too much luck of
the draw, so if I knew that’s what they were gonna do I wouldn’t even have gone
down.”
The veteran standout from Bear Lake, Pa., ended up drawing the most stacked of
Friday night’s six heat-race qualifying groups. His group – the fifth of the
night – included four other former North-South 100 winners (Jimmy Owens, Bart
Hartman, Steve Shaver and Donnie Moran); Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champ
Earl Pearson Jr.; current World of Outlaws Late Model Series points leader
Darrell Lanigan; eventual 2008 North-South 100 winner Darren Miller; and rising
young stars Justin Rattliff and Brian Shirley.
“We had the fastest group of the night,” Chub said of his group’s combined
qualifying times. “We were 17th-fastest overall (17.962 seconds), which would’ve
put us on the pole for a heat race if it was a straight-up format. Instead, we
started sixth (in a Saturday-night heat) because we were in the fastest group.”
Chub finished sixth in his heat race (missing a transfer spot by three
positions) and placed fifth in the third B-Main, which sent just its winner to
the North-South 100. He also fell one spot short of the fast-time provisional,
which went to Lanigan as the fastest qualifier who failed to make the
North-South 100 through a heat or B-Main.
“If they’re gonna do things the way they did them this year,” Chub said of
Florence Speedway, “then that was my last time there for that race.”
With a disappointing North-South 100 experience now in his rearview mirror, Chub
is focused on preparing his Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star
Performance/Corry Laser/Slavic Corporation/Farr MotorSports/Lake Shore
Paving/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1* for the
homestretch of the WoO LMS campaign. He sits fourth in the tour’s points
standings following a two-and-a-half-week break from WoO LMS competition.
Chub returns to action on the WoO LMS this weekend with events on Friday night
(Aug. 15) at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Saturday night (Aug. 16) at
Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. Chub owns a 2001 Hav-A-Tampa/Xtreme
DirtCar Series victory at Fayetteville in his only career visit to the track,
but he’s never before raced at Screven.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Victory At Eriez, Runner-Up Finish At McKean County Puts Smile On Mike Knight’s
Face
RIPLEY, NY – Mike Knight fell just a handful of laps short of two wins in as
many starts last weekend, but he wasn’t about to complain about his fate.
After being plagued by bad luck for much of the season, the 21-year-old from
Ripley, N.Y., was more than satisfied with a victory on Sunday night (Aug. 3) at
Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., and a runner-up finish last Thursday night (July
31) at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa.
“We had a great weekend,” said a happy Knight, whose momentum was dulled only by
a rainout on Saturday night (Aug. 2) at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y. “We
had two really good runs and we made some money close to home.”
Knight continued to stamp himself as the driver to beat in 2008 at Eriez,
rolling to his third triumph in his last five Super Late Model starts there on
Sunday night. The defending track champion roared forward from the third
starting spot in the 25-lap feature to grab the lead from Rich Gardner and march
to an uncontested victory.
“I just went to the high side on a restart and made it happen,” Knight said of
his winning pass. “My car has been so fast lately at Eriez, it’s been unreal.
We’ve really found a combination that works there.”
Three days earlier, Knight made a strong bid to win the 30-lap United Late Model
Series (ULMS) feature at McKean County Raceway. He started from the pole
position in his Rocket No. 9K and led the race’s first 22 laps before being
overtaken by eventual winner Todd Andrews while racing amid lapped traffic.
A caution flag with six laps remaining gave Knight a final shot at Andrews, but
he couldn’t pull off a pass and settled for second place.
“My car was so bolted to the track, I didn’t think that anybody would be able to
touch us,” Knight said of his McKean County performance. “But Todd Andrews
really had a fast car. I was probably a little hard on the right-rear (tire
compound) and a little soft on the left-rear, but Andrews had the best car.
“I tried everything I could to pass him back after the last caution, but I
couldn’t get him.”
Knight will stay close to home again this weekend to enter events on Saturday
night (Aug. 9) at Stateline Speedway and Sunday (Aug. 10) at Eriez Speedway.
Off the track, the rising star continues to seek the support of his fans in
pursuit of the $10,000 top prize in the ‘Alltel Ohio Speedweek All-Star’ on-line
contest. He’s one of 15 standout dirt Late Model drivers eligible for the
10-grand award thanks to his fifth-place finish in the World of Outlaws Late
Model Series Alltel Ohio Speedweek event on July 27 at Eriez Speedway.
Fans can vote for Knight once a day through Sept. 9 by visiting
