Coleby Frye Celebrates After Winning 2008 AlturnaMATS® MACS Rookie of the Year Title

Indiana, PA (November 23, 2008) Coleby Frye, Dover, PA, entered the MACS 2008 season as a virtual unknown in the Dirt Late Model ranks in northeast or nationally; but quickly let people know he was going to be a serious contender for the MACS title. Throughout the campaign this rising star turned many heads with his performances and met his objective by claiming the 2008 AlturnaMATS® Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Rookie of the Year crown.

During 2008, Frye’s exploits went beyond racing as he is a Welding Technology Senior at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, PA where his is very active outside of the classroom. Coleby is a student-athlete. He is a member of the Penn College soccer team where he was honored as a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), as an All American – Honorable Mention. His racing resume included winning the coveted AlturnaMATS® MACS Rookie award, finishing the season tied for third in series points with 2002 MACS Champion Jack Pencil. Coleby also garnered one AlturnaMATS ‘Shock the Clock’ Fast Time award throughout the season with a rash of top finishes.

The quiet and very likable Frye offered congratulations to the 2008 series champion Jason Covert, “I wanted to congratulate Covert and the Klinedinst team on their third consecutive MACS title, Jason is at the top of the region right now.” Frye continued about second place finisher Doug Horton, “(he) is a hell of a driver; we raced with both Jason and Doug competitively. Those guys are definitely good competitors and we are not ashamed to have finished behind them.”

Frye’s Rookie campaign got off to a rocky start in April at Rick and Ernie Jones’, Oval Track Promotions, ‘The Rock’ Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD during the ‘Western Maryland Open 50’. Coleby transferred to the main event by finishing third in his ‘B-Main’ but dropped out in the early stages of the 50-lap event and was scored with a 24th place finish.

The Fryeco Motorsports team, which consists of Coleby’s parents Ron and Sandy Frye, Ken ‘Butch’ Metzel, Tyler Pancione, and Jon Malehorn, quickly turned their fortunes around at the next series stop at the Keifer Motorsports promoted Bedford Speedway, Bedford, PA. Frye would set the second quickest time in the AlturnaMATS ‘Shock the Clock’ time trials before finishing second in his heat race. Coleby drew the eighth starting spot for the 50-lap ‘TC Warehouse Late Model Spring Championship’ and raced his way to his first top-ten finish of the season as he finished eighth. This strong performance moved him up to tenth in the championship point standings and second in the AlturnaMATS Rookie of the Year standings behind fellow rookie contender Greg Fetters.

The wet month of June thwarted the team’s efforts to climb the Series ladders. After two consecutive rainouts during the programs at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, Jamaica, VA, for the 50-lap, “Summer Sizzler II” and Sharon Speedway, Hartford, OH, “Triton 50” the month of July awaited.

Up next for Coleby and the MACS Series was a weekend at the Coleman Family’s Portsmouth Raceway Park, Portsmouth, OH, where Promoters Donna Rayburn and Chuck Greenslate eagerly welcomed the tour. The Fourth of July weekend at ‘PRP’ featured two separate, one day shows where Frye would overtake Fetters in the battle for the rookie title. Coleby captured his second straight MACS top-ten with another eighth in the ‘Stars and Stripes Pepsi 75’. That finish moved him past Fetters in the ROY hunt, as well as up to fourth in the championship standings. The following night, during the ‘Weaver Gas & Oil Independence Day 50’ Frye finished sixteenth in the final rundown and was then tied with Jack Pencil for fourth in championship points.

Coleby enjoyed his time in southern Ohio and took a lot away from his trip, “Portsmouth was a pretty neat place. I like getting out there in Ohio and places where the tracks are different and the competition is different. It’s a whole different crowd out there. It’s so much more fun going out and racing against new people every week,” Frye continued, “I got to meet up with Doug Drown a little bit, he’s a cool guy and a couple of other fellows out on the road, it was good for me, making contacts out on the road.”

Ernie Shelton’s 29th Annual Topless ‘USA 100’ presented by the United States Army at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, was next on the docket for the team. Frye timed 17th quickest and finished eighth in his 25-lap qualifying race putting him in 15th on the starting grid for the 50-lap finale, paying $10,000 to-win. Coleby had a disappointing run as he dropped out of the event early relegating him to a 25th place finish as well as dropping to fifth in the point standings. The silver lining to that dark cloud was he still held a 60 point edge on Fetters in the Rookie standings.

August ended at Lernerville Speedway, Sarver, PA, for the $7,000 to-win, Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar ‘Jim Shank Memorial’ presented by Potoka Trucking and Repair. Coleby’s Rocket GTO powered by Clements had his loyal boosters Fryeco Inc.; PA College of Technology; A&A Auto Salvage and Recycling; Keystone Trailer Services; TC Race Cars; Krenn Trucking cheering as he logged the fast time earning $500 from
#1 Cochran Automotive, a $200 Gift Certificate from AlturnaMATS®, as well as a $200 gift certificate from Genesis Shocks. With the inversion, Coleby started fourth in his heat and finished third which would put him in the A-Main redraw. Frye drew the second starting position for the main event, flanking 2004 MACS Champion Robbie Blair. Frye blazed a hot trial leading the first 22 laps of the event until eventual race winner Doug Drown was able to make his way around the rookie. Three time and current MACS Champion Jason Covert was also able to get by Coleby for the second as Frye’s mount developed handling issues. The ill-handling race car forced Coleby back to sixth at one point, before he took that bucking bull by the horns riding it to the extreme high side of the speedway returning to third before fading at the end back to sixth. “Lernerville was pretty cool, setting fast time, putting on a show,” Frye commented, “running up front was nice, (but) I wish I could have finished there; but that is part of the learning curve.”

Coleby went into the series’ final event, the 8th Annual ‘Big Kahuna’, at Rick and Ernie Jones’, Oval Track Promotions, ‘The Rock’ Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD, holding a slim five point margin over Jack Pencil for third in championship points and a 115 point lead over Fetters for the Rookie crown. Frye had to run a B-Main to secure a spot in the $12,000 to-win feature event but ran into some mechanical problems during the consolation event forcing him to use a provisional which also relegated him to a back-up car to start the 50-lap season finale. Coleby passed nine cars from 24th to finish fifteenth securing the 2008 AlturnaMATS Rookie of the Year title. Frye also finished one spot behind Pencil which tied the pair for third in the Championship points.

Frye spoke about his rookie title and his first year on the road, “We really felt like we could do it, (win the AlturnaMATS Rookie of the Year title) if we stuck to it and kept our heads. I need to thank my parents and my crew for everything, as well as my sponsors…Fryeco Inc., A&A Auto Salvage and Recycling, Pennsylvania College of Technology, TC Race Cars, Keystone Trailer Services, Krenn Trucking, Integra Shocks, Speedwrapz, and Clements Racing Engines, in addition to all of our product sponsors.” Coleby continued about his program, “I know I can compete with these guys and it’s up to me not to make mistakes where they don’t and I do. That’s what gets me fifth instead of winning. That is why we’re out here racing, to try to get better and learn.” Coleby also has high expectations for himself and his race team in the future, “Of course I would like to get out on the road with a national circuit but that takes a lot of money and good backing and we don’t have that yet. Right now though we are looking at the MACS deal again unless something else bigger is put on a platter for us. If we don’t move up to the next level, we will be back here next year gunning for the championship.”

Jason Covert Claims Third Consecutive Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Title

Indiana, PA (October 23, 2008)
The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series has seen three drivers in their twelve year history win back-to-back championships. This year the Series again recorded a significant point in history as Jason Covert, York Haven, PA, registered the first three-peat championship.

Recounting the past back-to-back champions includes Denny Chamberlain, Lost Creek, WV, who scored his first championship during the inaugural MACS season in 1997 and duplicated that effort by capturing the laurels again during the ’98 campaign. Then the 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee, Lynn Geisler won his back-to-back championships during the ‘99 and 2000 seasons. After a five year hiatus of back- to-back champions, Covert burst onto the scene in 2006 claiming his first championship crown. Jason followed up that feat by repeating his effort claiming his second title one season later. Covert looking to make series history, started the 2008 season with a quest at a three-peat. That plan came to fruition at the conclusion of the 2008 season as Jason became the first driver to not only win three MACS championships, but do it in three consecutive seasons defeating 195 other drivers from eleven states.

A jubilant Covert enthusiastically commented, “The cars just don’t break,” he said about his familiar yellow and red #43A Rocket Monte Carlo which is owned Barry Klinedinst. The Klinedinst’s own and prepare this car along with an extremely dedicated crew. His 2008 season was paved with a mount equipped with Ohlins Shocks, shod with American Racers, fueled with VP and powered by Hershey Racing Engines. The team is supported by a list of very important, devoted boosters including Pre-Mach, Inc.; Red Wing Shoes; Baker Carburetion; Bam’s Auto Center; Kuppy’s Diner, Eberly Building & Remodeling; JNJ Motorsports Media; Rick Kaylor, Jr. Computer Consulting; and Robbie Allen Enterprises. Covert, added, “Without any one of them none of this would be possible, we appreciate all the help we get.”

A recap of Jason’s pursuit for the title saw his 2008 MACS campaign getting underway at Rick and Ernie Jones’, Oval Track Promotions, ‘The Rock’ Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD for the season opening $5,000 to-win, ‘Western Maryland Open 50’. World of Outlaws Late Model Series regular and 2008 ‘World 100’ winner Shane Clanton, Locust Grove, GA bagged the win as Covert started his march for his third consecutive title with an eighth place finish in the star-studded field.

The next series stop was at the Keifer Motorsports promoted Bedford Speedway, Bedford, PA for the ‘TC Warehouse Late Model Spring Championship’. Jeff Rine, Danville, PA, was the popular victor in that $5,000 to-win showdown as he held off 2008 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee Gary Stuhler, WoO Series regular and frequent MACS visitor Rick Eckert, followed by Covert as he collected his first MACS top five of the year.

After two consecutive rainouts in June at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, Jamaica, VA and Sharon Speedway, Hartford, OH, Jason stood in second in the season point standings heading into the two, separate, one-day shows over the Fourth of July weekend at the Coleman Family’s Portsmouth Raceway Park, Portsmouth, OH. Covert, who won over $55,000 in 2007 with the Series including the two $10,000 to-win shows one of which was the ‘Glockner Toyota Tundra 75’ at PRP in addition to Ernie Shelton’s 28th Annual USA 100TM at Virginia Motor Speedway. At PRP, which is one of Jason favorite places, he battled his way from a seventh place start to finish as the runner-up behind the “Pepsi 75” winner Eddie Carrier, Jr., and as a result inherited the MACS points lead. The following night at ‘PRP’ Covert stretched his point lead over Bruceton Mills, WV’s Doug Horton by 150 points with a sixth place finish after Josh Richards torched the field for his first career series victory.

Up next for the series was a co-sanctioned event with the Carolina Clash Series at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for Ernie Shelton’s 29th Annual ‘USA 100’presented by the United States Army. A twist to this year’s event was that it went “Topless”. Chris ‘Smokey’ Madden, Grey Court, SC dominated the evening by setting fast time in the AlturnaMATS ‘Shock the Clock’ Time Trials presented by JNJ Motorsports Media, and he won his 25-lap qualifier while Jamie Lathroum, Mechanicsville, MD claimed the second qualifier. Madden went on to lead all 50-laps of the A-Main garnering his first ever MACS main event, while defending race champion, Covert, settled for a sixth place finish, one spot behind his closest point contender Horton.

Covert and the rest of the MACS contingent closed out the month of August at Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway, Sarver, PA, for the $7,000 to-win, Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar ‘Jim Shank Memorial’ presented by Potoka Trucking & Repair. Jason qualified sixth, won his heat, and chased eventual winner Doug Drown, Wooster, OH, to the checkers recording a second place finish. Covert reflected about yet another bridesmaid finish, “We had about ten second place finishes this year. We ran decent all year long but not where we wanted to be. We had a new package this year with Hog Head (Robbie Allen) that we have worked on all year and we could just never get everything together at the same time.”

Jason entered the final event of the season where it started, at Rick and Ernie Jones’, Oval Track Promotions ‘The Rock’ Allegany County Speedway for the two-day, 8th Annual ‘Big Kauhna’. Entering the weekend, Jason had a virtual lock on the coveted title. Covert’s weekend again started off strong after setting the sixth fastest time. Jason finished third in his heat to put him fifth on the starting grid for the $12,000 to-win, 50- lap finale. ‘Kid Rocket’ Josh Richards fended off Jason after two late race cautions to win the battle but in the end Covert won the war. The modest Covert was quick to extol high praise for his crew, “It’s all because of this team Barry and Bryan Klinedinst, Lou (George Crone), Drew (Covert), Brandon (Whitsel), Phat (Matt Thomas), Dellinger (Scott), Heather (Shatzer), my wife Jaynelle and daughter Allison. It’s not because of me. I’m just the one lucky enough to have gotten in this seat (the Klinedinst car). These guys work so hard at the shop plus they all work fulltime jobs, I just have to thank them for this opportunity to run their car,” Covert humbly added.

“We won three races overall in 2008, that wasn’t what we expected but we expect a lot out of ourselves. We had two pretty good years so I guess we were due to have some things go wrong; (but) we just love the MACS series, it fits us perfectly, the MACS guys are all working guys just like us, it just fits us right,” stated Covert. Jason, speaking to the level of competition that shows up at MACS events, “You see the cars that are here tonight (Big Kahuna) and how many really GOOD race cars are here, and everywhere else we went this year, and the past three years, the quality of cars is fantastic. The series is well respected by the national Late Model series drivers including the World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil guys as well as the local guy. This was one of the best fields I have ever seen here at Cumberland for the ‘Kahuna’. The MACS is the most well organized and well run deals that I have raced with, bar none.”

Jason earned over $30,000 in cash after competing in all the series events en route to his third championship in as many years.

Jason Covert Clinches Third Consecutive Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Title!

York Haven, PA (October 14, 2008) Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and now Back-to-Back-to-BACK Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert have officially locked up their third straight MACS Championship with his second place finish at the Series' season ending 'Big Kahuna' at 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD. Covert finished the 2008 MACS season without finishing outside of the top ten and posting an average finish of fourth throughout the season.

'This and the other championships aren't because of me, it's because of this team…I'm just the one lucky enough to be the one to get in the seat.' Jason said after clinching the title. 'Those guys work so hard at the shop plus work a job, I have to thank them, (BK Motorsports) for giving the opportunity to run their car.'

Weather played a major role in September allowing the team to only race twice within the month. Both events were productive for the team as Jason collected two second place finishes. The first came at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA September 6th and the second came in Hagerstown Speedway's Hub City 100 on September 13th. Covert was scheduled to race at Winchester Speedway on September 26 & 27 but Mother Nature forced the 'Winchester 200' to be postponed until October 24 & 25.

Covert and the BK Motorsports team then made their way to 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD for the final MACS event of the 2008 season on October 3 and 4. The 'Big Kahuna' weekend started strong for Jason as he was sixth quickest in the AlturnaMATS® 'Shock the Clock' Time Trials and finishing third in his heat race. Covert drew the fifth starting spot for the 50 lap feature event and came home second behind race winner Josh Richards.

'Josh was just so much better than us tonight. Early in the race we were making better time through the center of the corners but when he moved up, he took off and I burnt my tires off trying to keep up with him.' Covert continued, 'That is a professional racer right there, Josh has become one of the best in the business.'

The following weekend Jason visited Challenger Raceway for 'The Ultimate' that paid $22,000 to the winner. The unique Thursday, Friday, Saturday format saw Covert win his heat during Thursday's $3,000 to win 'Mega-Blitz' and then finish third in the 41 lap main event from his seventh starting position. The rest of the weekend wasn't as pleasant for Covert as he finished third in his heat relegating him to a B-Main where he faded out of a transfer spot and failed to qualify for Unified Race Championship Tour sanctioned 'The Ultimate'.

Available now on the ever so popular www.DirtonDirt.com is a full length feature interview conducted by Michael Rigsby of Dirt on Dirt with Jason about his three straight MACS Championships, where he got started racing, and the whole BK Motorsports Team. Check it out at www.dirtondirt.com!

The BK Motorsports team will take a weekend off and return to action on Friday, October 24 & 25 at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA for the 'Winchester 200' that will pay $10,000 to the winner. The team will also be at Hagerstown Speedway on October 25 & 26 for the 'Octoberfest 350'. Hagerstown and Winchester are working together to make sure all competitors will be able to attend both facilities for each of the two events.

Josh Richards Rockets to $12,000 Payday in the ‘8th Annual Big Kahuna’!

Cumberland, MD (October 4, 2008) Some might say Josh Richards has arrived. With the support of his father, Mark Richards, one of the most successful Late Model chassis builders in history, in addition to that of NASCAR® star Tony Stewart, a rabid Dirt Late Model enthusiast and owner of Eldora Speedway it could be easy to conclude. But when you put this formula together, it doesn’t always spell success. The person that is behind the wheel has got to have talent and ‘Kid Rocket’, as he has been dubbed exudes talent. Josh currently sits fourth in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series point standings while winning four races on their tour in 2008. And now, in just his third MACS start of the year, he bagged his second triumph claiming the $12,000 top prize, as he dominated the ‘8th Annual Big Kahuna’ at Rick and Ernie Jones’, Oval Track Promotions effort at ‘The Rock’ Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD. With Richards win along came another couple notches on the belt for Rocket chassis as Jason Covert, York Haven, PA became the first, three-time MACS champion in addition to Dover, PA’s Coleby Frye claiming the 2008 AlturnaMATS® MACS Rookie of the Year title.

The 50-lap, Big Kahuna VIII was led trackside by Ricky Elliott and Richards as the paced the star-studded field to green. As the field blasted their way through the first corner and into turn two, Elliott and Richards were racing extremely hard with each other and the duo ultimately made contract causing Elliott start to lose control of his mount. Richards contact with the polesitter, left him no where to go as he tried to take evasive action after catching Elliott’s rear corner-panel sending him spinning in front of the pack. Cars were scattering everywhere as Jeremy Miller and Tim McCreadie waxed Elliott but where able maintain there momentum. The same couldn’t be said for 2005 MACS Champion, Mike Balzano, as well as D.J. Troutman as they made contract with the spun pole sitter relegating the trio to the rear of the field. All the cars involved where able to continue for the restart. The realigned field now saw ageless veteran, and 2008 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee, Gary Stuhler inherit the pole position for the ensuing restart. As the green again waved, Richards jumped out into lead over Covert, who had catapulted past Stuhler to claim second.

The action continued on the huge 5/8 mile oval as Richards caught lapped traffic in just nine short circuits. The following lap saw the events third caution as Randy Burkholder spun in turn three. On the restart, Richards led Covert, Steve Francis, Boom Briggs (from ninth), and Miller rounded out the top five. The top quintet was setting a torrid pace around the picturesque facility as Doug Horton shot into the top ten from his 17th place starting position. As racing continued, Miller locked up in a spectacular duel with Rick Eckert for fifth.

By lap 20, Richards had stretched his margin over Covert to almost an eight car lengths as the 2007 MACS Rookie of the Year, Matt Lux, was falling from sixth to eighth after both Stuhler and Horton blasted around the Franklin, PA hot shoe. A mere ten laps later Josh continued to set a blistering pace and had built a full straightaway lead while Covert and Francis were hooked up in a dog fight for second. Eckert was reeling in the competition as he moved past Briggs to claim fourth. Two late cautions closed up the field and eliminated Richards huge advantage. Each time the 20-year old Richards answered the call as he would again pull away from his closets contenders. Richards held the point the rest of the way to the checkers going claiming his second career MACS victory and the $12,000 top prize. Freshly crowned 2008 MACS Champion Jason Covert settled for second followed by Francis, Eckert, and Briggs in fifth. Miller led the next flight of five finisher with Stuhler in seventh followed by Horton, Davey Johnson, and Jared Miley, from fifteenth.

More on the 2008 MACS Champion Jason Covert and 2008 AlturnaMATS MACS Rookie of the Year, Coleby Frye will be released at a later date.

Doug Drown Captures MACS’ Jim Shank Memorial at Lernerville

Sarver, PA (August 29, 2008) It was an emotional night for the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Media Liaison Jason Shank and his entire family as Wooster, OH’s Doug Drown held off two-time and defending MACS Champion Jason Covert to claim the $7,000 top prize in the Cleveland Brothers CATERPILLAR Jim Shank Memorial 50 presented by Potoka Trucking & Repair.

The 50-lap feature was preceded with the traditional MACS four-wide salute to the fans with a bit of a twist. To honor Jim Shank’s memory, his favorite driver and long time friend, two-time MACS Champion, Lynn Geisler headed the talented formation of 27-cars during the parade lap.

After the emotional pre-race ceremonies the field settled back into two-by-two formation, with ‘04 MACS Champion, Robbie Blair, and current AlturnaMATS® MACS Rookie of the Year point leader Coleby Frye pacing the field. As the green flew, Frye jumped out into the early lead followed by Blair, Doug Horton, Doug Drown and Jason Covert. Frye was setting an intense, but somewhat of an erratic pace, as he hurled around the cushion causing his mount to lurch awkwardly at times.

The fast pace was first slowed on lap seven when local Big Block Modified standout Brian Swartzlander spun in turn four. The ensuing ‘Delaware’ style restart had Frye continuing to lead as Drown worked his way around Blair for second.

Frye was still on point when the pack was slowed for the second time on lap 14 as Jared Miley jumped the cushion in turns three and four damaging the suspension which ultimately sent him spinning in turn two. The restart still had Coleby leading as Covert began pressuring Drown for second.

Another quick caution on lap 19 for debris tightened the field once again. On the restart, Drown looked to inside of Frye for the lead. Doug’s heavy pressure and a consistent line found him moving around Coleby on lap 23. Covert began hounding Frye for second before the pace slowed again on lap 26, this time for 2003 MACS Rookie of the Year, Keith Barbara.

When the green reappeared, Covert made the pass for second as Frye hurled his mount around the rim almost losing control in turn two permitting Gregg Satterlee, Blair, and Horton to blast by relegating Frye to the sixth. Drown and Covert were setting a blistering pace and pulled away from the field. The ground they had gained on the field was surrendered when MACS regular Waylon Wagner came up lame in turn two. During the caution period Satterlee pitted forfeiting his top five run.

Drown, driving a Moyer Victory Circle Chassis, could have been easily mistaken for “Mr. Smooth” as lap after lap he ran a silky smooth and extremely consistent line. Covert, still riding in second, did everything he could to chase down the Ohio lead-foot; but not even a late caution on lap 47 could thwart Drown as he went on to collect his second career MACS career feature win and the $7,000 top prize. Covert settled for second, over Blair, Horton and Frye rounding out the top five. The next tier of five was led by ‘07 MACS Rookie of the Year Matt Lux, from 19th; followed by Dutch Davies; Boom Briggs, from 22nd; Gary Lyle, from 14th; and Dave Hess, Jr. from 20th; completing the top ten.

Lynn started his string of top-five finishes on Friday, August 15th at Lernerville Speedway with a fifth and followed that up with a fourth and another fifth at PPMS during their twin features on August 16th. The next week saw Geisler finish a strong third at Lernerville behind race winner Keith Barbara and 2008 Lernerville Champion Alex Ferree. Lynn then had another solid run at PPMS finishing fourth on August 23rd in his #1 Cochran Automotive / Marshall Stamping / Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc. / Tri-State Hose & Supply / Bolea Oil / Hoosier Race Tire / Rocket Chassis GTO.

This upcoming week will showcase the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series sanctioned, $7,000 to win Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar 'Jim Shank Memorial' presented by Potoka Trucking & Repair on Friday, August 29th at Lernerville Speedway. The event is being held in honor of longtime Geisler Racing fan and friend Jim Shank. "Jim wasn't only a fan of mine, he was a fan of racing," said Geisler. "That's how I remember Jim, as a race fan. He truly loved the sport and that's what is going to make this race special. Jim had an airbrushed mural of my car and name on the rear tire cover of his conversion van that he used to travel to the races in. Jim's van became a popular attraction at the different facilities he visited. There were always fans stopping by to look at the mural which sparked many conversations, often times with total strangers. To win this race would be very special, it would really be the icing on the cake and a great tribute to my friend," concluded Geisler.

In other Geisler Racing news, Lynn son Travis was recently named Crew Chief for the Penske Racing #77 Mobil 1 Dodge driven by Sam Hornish Jr. in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Travis, a mechanical engineering graduate from Vanderbilt had been the race engineer for the No. 12 Alltel Dodge driven by Ryan Newman, was an integral part of that team's historic 2008 Daytona 500 victory. Congratulations Travis!

Geisler will be in action this Friday, August 29th at Lernerville Speedway for the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series sanctioned, $7,000 to win Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar 'Jim Shank Memorial' presented by Potoka Trucking & Repair and Saturday, August 30 at PPMS for their regular show.

Jim Shank Memorial Set to be Special Night for Former MACS Champion Lynn Geisler and MACS ROY Keith Barbara

Indiana, PA (August 21, 2008) The August 29 Cleveland Brothers CAT ‘Jim Shank Memorial’ presented by Potoka Trucking & Repair may very well be a first in dirt late model racing. If not, it’s definitely the first time that there has been a tribute or memorial race for a fan in the Western Pennsylvania region.

“I think this is the first time I have ever seen a memorial race for a fan,” said National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee and two-time MACS series champion Lynn Geisler. Jim Shank was a loyal patron to dirt tracks not only in the Western PA area but all over the country. Jim was also a die hard Geisler fan. Anywhere the Geisler Race Team was on a particular weekend, it was a given you could find Jim there as well.

“Jim wasn’t only a fan of mine, he was a fan of racing,” continued Geisler. “That’s how I remember Jim, as a race fan. He truly loved the sport and that’s what is going to make this race special. Jim had an airbrushed mural of my car and name on the rear tire cover of his conversion van that he used to travel to the races in. Jim’s van became a popular attraction at the different facilities he visited. There were always fans stopping by to look at the mural which sparked many conversations, often times with total strangers. To win this race would be very special, it would really be the icing on the cake and a great tribute to my friend,” concluded Geisler.

The $7,000 to-win event at Lernerville Speedway is also special for the 2003 MACS Rookie of the Year, Keith Barbara. “Jim was a good friend of ours here at Forbes Field Motorsports,” mentioned Barbara. “My dad (Rich) used to build Jason’s (Jim’s son) go-kart motors way back when and had been a friend of the family ever since. And of course Jason is a big supporter and sponsor of ours. It would be great to be on top of our game that night and bring home a win in honor of our friend.”

You can be sure that both Geisler and Barbara will be as ready as they can be for the August 29th showdown.

“I’m extremely touched that Lernerville’s General Manager Gary Risch, Jr. and Jeff (Geesey) would have this event honoring my dad,” commented Jim’s son, Jason Shank. “This August show at Lernerville with MACS as well as the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprints was one of my dad’s favorite events and my family and I are just tickled for all of this to work out. I need to thank Cleveland Brothers CATAPLIER, Potoka Trucking & Repair, Don Gamble and Rappin’ on Racin’, Edge Racing Engines, Trafford Corporation, JNJ Motorsports Media, and #1 Cochran Automotive ($500 Fast Time Award) for stepping up by adding the cream on the top of this show. Without the collective support of these individuals and their associated businesses we couldn’t have elevated this show to a $7,000 to-win event; and for that I am greatly appreciative,” concluded Shank

The Cleveland Brothers CAT ‘Jim Shank Memorial’ presented by Potoka Trucking and Repair will pay $7,000 to the winner and will have a total purse of $32,000. Lynn Geisler’s long time sponsor #1 Cochran Automotive also put up $500 for the AlturnaMATS® Shock the Clock Time Trials presented by JNJ Motorsports Media quick time.

The event will be a full MACS program including AlturnaMATS® Time Trails presented by JNJ Motorsports Media, Heats, the Sunoco Race Fuels B Main presented by Bazell Oil, the Keizer Wheels 2nd B Main presented by Big Shot Performance, and a 50 lap A-Main.

Lernerville’s pit gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Driver’s meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. with hot laps beginning around 6:45 p.m. and Time Trials at 7:15 p.m. Racing will follow time trials at approximately 8:00 p.m.. Madden Blisters MACS and Carolina Clash Field Winning  Ernie Shelton’s 29th Annual ‘USA 100TM’ at VMS!

Jamaica, VA (August 9, 2008) Chris “Smokey” Madden, Grey Court, SC, had a night to remember during the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series and Carolina Clash co-sanctioned Ernie Shelton’s 29th Annual Miss Utility ‘USA 100TM’ presented by United States Army at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, Jamaica, VA. Madden piloting a Bloomquist Chassis recorded fast time during the AlturnaMATS® ‘Shock the Clock’ Time Trials presented by JNJ Motorsports Media, just shy of the track record by .002 of a second, won the first of two 25-lap qualifiers, and led all 50 laps of the main event claiming $12,000 for the evening.

Madden and Jeremy Miller led the first 25-lap qualifier to the green with Miller using the outside line to take the early lead. ‘Smokey’ hounded Jeremy for the first five laps until the two leaders caught lapped traffic on the sixth circuit. Madden used one of the lapped markers as a ‘pick’ to make his way under Miller’s familiar Buckler Motorsports entry snagging the lead. Madden never looked back the rest of the way leading the remaining 19 laps to collect the $1,000 paycheck. The 2007 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Tim Fuller led 22 of the 25 laps in the second qualifier but an outstanding performance by VMS regular, Jamie Lathroum saw him capturing and overhauling Fuller on lap 23 as he marched on to take the $1,000 top prize as well as the final front row starting spot for the final 50-lap segment.

Madden and Lathroum paced the fire breathing 26-car field to green. Madden’s dominance didn’t end after his qualifier was over. After quick caution during the opening stanza, Chris took control of the 50 lap main event. As Madden was attempting to check out World of Outlaw star Rick Eckert was making a move from his third starting position up to second. Lathroum stayed right with Eckert as Fuller as well as two-time and defending MACS champion Jason Covert battled for the fourth spot. The caution waved for the second time on lap seven when Ricky “The Rocket” Elliott’s #45 came to a sudden stop in turn four.

The ensuing restart saw MACS regular and rising star Doug Horton bolt into fifth from his ninth place starting spot. Horton continued his onslaught of the leaders as two short laps later he relegated Covert to fifth as he flew around the high side of the immaculate, three grooved speedway. Jason wasn’t deterred as he slung his BK Motorsports #43A ‘high and wide' not only recapturing the spot but also getting around Fuller for fourth as he set his sights on the third place car of Lathroum.

A lap 15 caution quickly bunched the leaders together again as Madden continued to lead Eckert. The race for third through sixth was an all out war between Lathroum, Covert, Fuller, and Horton as each tried to wrestle the other for position. This quartet raced each other three, and sometimes four wide for third. The action was spine tingling and was worth the price of admission to see these fourth drivers race each other so hard and never rub or touch.

Three more cautions slowed the pace but Madden was undaunted no matter what his competition had upper their collective sleeves. Madden ‘smoked’ all 50 laps collecting, not only his first MACS win but his first Ernie Shelton’s Miss Utility ‘USA 100TM’ presented by U.S. Army. Eckert held on strongly for second followed by Lathroum, who won the battle for third, Fuller, and Horton rounding out the top five. The next tier of five drivers was led by Covert in sixth; David Williams; former MACS Champion, Chuck Harper; Jim Bernheisel; and Booper Bare.

Rain Halts MACS Action at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway

Jamaica, VA (June 14, 2008) Bill Sawyer’s Immaculate Virginia Motor Speedway played host to round three of the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Super Late Models for the Miss Utility Summer Sizzler II featuring the ‘Dig with Care 50’ attracting 43 drivers from six states.

The ’07, ‘28th Annual, Ernie Shelton’s USA 100TM’ Champion at the VMS speed plant, Jason Covert turned quick time of 17.928 seconds in the JNJ Motorsports Media presented, AlturnaMATS® Shock the Clock Time Trials and posted a second place finish in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Heat Race #1 behind Gettysburg, PA’s Jeremy Miller. Roland Mann held off the hard charging Josh Richards in the American Racer Heat #2 presented by Lias Tire Racing Division.

Just as the Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley Heat #3, which is presented by Dave Poske Performance Parts, took the green, the skies, which had been darkening, filled with lightening followed by torrential rains. This extensive storm completely overcame the speedway forcing track and series officials to cancel the remainder of the scheduled events including the final two other heat races, two B-Mains and the $7,000 to-win ‘Dig with Care 50’.

The MACS will return to action next Saturday, June 21, at Sharon Speedway, Hartford, OH for the $5,000 to-win ‘Triton 50’. The pit gate opens at 3:00 p.m. and spectator gates open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting is slated for 5:00 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with time trails slated for 6:00 p.m. Racing will immediately follow the conclusion of time trials at approximately 7:00 p.m. For more information visit the Sharon Speedway website at www.sharonspeedway.com  or the Series at www.macsracing.com.

Jeff Rine Puts Exclamation Point On MACS ‘TC Warehouse Late Model Spring Championship’ at Bedford Speedway

Bedford, PA (May 26, 2008) It’s been a long time coming for Danville, PA’s Jeff Rine to claim his career first MACS victory worth $5,000 in the “TC Warehouse Late Model Spring Championship’ at the Keifer Motorsport promoted Bedford Speedway, Bedford, PA. Rine has been close to winning a Mid-Atlantic Championship Series event on numerous occasions, but on this night, he was not to be denied as he lead all 50 laps.

World of Outlaws Late Model Series standout Rick Eckert and Rine led the anxious 26-car starting field to green with Eckert gaining a slight advantage as the thundering field barreled out of turn two. Eckert’s lead was negated though as Randy Burkholder’s mount spun to a stop in turn three. Rick and Jeff again brought the pack out of turn four with Rine finally gaining the upper-hand after a drag down the back chute with Eckert.

Rine stretched his lead to over ten car length’s by the seventh circuit but that is when Eckert and his C.J. Rayburn Chassis found a line that would close the gap by lap 10. As Eckert closed on the leader, Rine closed in on lapped traffic.

By lap 12, Rine was dealing with lapped traffic as ‘Scrub’ patiently waited for an opportunity to shuffle the leader to second. The lead duo methodically worked their way through traffic while third and fourth place contestants, reigning MACS Champion, Jason Covert and Gary Stuhler slowly inched their way closer.

Eckert looked both inside and outside of Rine but couldn’t find an opening big enough to make his move on the leader. Rick’s assault was slowed on lap 22 for 2008 AlturnaMATS® Rookie of the Year candidate Ron Delano Jr. came to a halt in turn four.

During the ensuing Delaware style restart, Covert blew by Eckert into second, but that effort was thwarted by a spin for Steve Everhart. Rine again brought the field down for the green and once again Covert vaulted into second. Eckert then uncharacteristically pushed up track in turn two letting Stuhler slide by into third. Stuhler then turned up the wick on Covert for second. Jason and Gary battled side-by-side through turns three and four with Stuhler taking the position away.

Just as the leaders passed the start finish line, Bo Feathers, Scott LeBarron, Doug Horton, and Jack Pencil all got together coming out of the fourth corner to bring out the third caution. The single-file restart had Rine pulling Covert, Stuhler, Eckert and 12th place starter Scott Haus to the green. Haus used the high line to get around Eckert for fourth and carried his momentum down the long Bedford Speedway backstretch to get along side of Covert for third. Covert was able to fend off Haus challenges for the position as Eckert blasted underneath Haus. Eckert, just like Haus, used his momentum to snag fourth while pulling to Covert’s door panel for third. Eckert finally had the set-up he wanted, making the pass relegating Covert to fourth just as another AlturnaMATS Rookie of the Year contender, Mike Altobelli Jr. spun in turn two.

With 28 laps in, it was still Rine leading the way over the ‘The Beast of the East’, Gary Stuhler, Eckert, Haus and Covert rounding out the top five. As racing resumed, Rine and Stuhler stayed out front leaving Haus and Eckert t battle for third. Eckert eventually scored the position and pulled away from Haus as Covert maneuvered his way back around Haus to re-claim fourth. On lap 36 the final caution flag flew for D.J. Troutman who spun his mount in turn four.

At this juncture, Rine appeared untouchable as he started to slightly pull away from Stuhler and the field. Haus, had expended his tire coming through the field and continued to fade as Steve Everhart recovered from his lap 22 spin to move into the fifth.

Stuhler stayed glued to Rine for the remained 12 laps but was never close enough to mount a serious charge for the win. Rine, fist held high as he took the checkers, scored his first MACS career win. Rine was closely followed by Stuhler, Eckert, Covert, and Everhart. Haus held on for sixth over 2008 AlturnaMATS® Rookie of the Year contenders Greg Fetters and Coleby Frye, Jeff Miller, and Jeremy Miller rounded out the top ten.

Indiana, PA (May 10, 2008) The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series sanctioned ‘Ice Buster 50’ at Ryan & Gina Lynn’s Hesston Speedway, Hesston, PA has again been postponed for the second consecutive time. Shane Clanton Bags Career First MACS Win at ‘The Rock’!

Cumberland, MD (April 12, 2008) It’s not very often a racer will win their first race they have entered with a series but that is exactly what Locust Grove, GA’s Shane Clanton did as he captured the $5,000 top prize at Rick and Ernie Jones, Oval Tack Promotions at “The Rock” Allegany County Speedway, during the MACS sanctioned Western Maryland Open 50”. Clanton preserved the victory by holding off a hard charging Billy Decker as well as late race surges from Tim Fuller, Mike Balzano, and Chub Frank.

Clanton and Decker brought the star-studded 24 car field to green with Clanton seizing the lead. Shane built a commanding margin despite two early cautions. The first appeared on lap four for the #F1 of 2008 AlturnaMATS® MACS Rookie of the Year contender, Coleby Frye while the second four quick circuits later for Doug Horton.

Shane continued to lead the event as the 2005 MACS champion Mike Balzano battled with the 2007 Dirt Track World Championship winner Chub Frank for third. ‘ChubZilla’ was able to slip under ‘Blazo’ on lap 13 as Clanton began to catch the tail of the field for the first time.

Clanton, also known as ‘Coconut’, was working his way through traffic, with Decker closing the gap. Billy was poised for the pass but his effort was thwarted because the fourth caution flew on lap 21 for series regular Chuck Clise.

Restarts were Shane’s forte as he pulled away from the field during all previous restarts; however, this time Billy stayed glued to his rear deck-lid. The pair stretched their margin over the field as they once again caught lapped traffic. This time Decker used patience and poise to make his move on the race leader. Shane got caught up with a lapped car coming out of turn four which opened the door for Billy. Decker dove hard to the bottom taking the lead on lap 37. Now Decker had the lead only to have his pace slowed by lapped traffic. On the next circuit Decker’s misfortune turned into Clanton’s fortune as he passed Decker back for the top spot.

Decker stayed with Clanton as the action heated up behind the lead duo. Balzano fought back past Frank for third as Chub began slowing bringing out fifth and final caution for a right rear flat on lap 42.

Shane regained his restart ‘magic’ on the final restart and kept Decker at bay for the final eight revolutions collecting his first career MACS victory and the $5,000 top prize. Clanton was followed by Decker; Tim Fuller, who got by Balzano during the final restart to finish third; Balzano; and Jeremy Miller in fifth. The next tier of drivers was led by Gary Stuhler in sixth; Shannon Babb; two-time and defending MACS Champion Jason Covert; Rick Eckert; and Rick Elliott rounded out the top ten.

Mid-Atlantic Championship Series

MACS ‘Ice Buster 50’ at Hesston Speedway Postponed Until Sunday, May 11th

Indiana, PA (April 10, 2008) The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series’ sanctioned ‘Ice Buster 50’ at Ryan & Gina Lynn’s Hesston Speedway has been postponed until Sunday, May 11th for extremely wet conditions at the Hesston, PA high-banked 3/8 mile.

“We did not want to have to make this decision but the grounds here are very wet and very soft,” said Hesston Speedway Promoter Ryan Lynn. “With the fuel costs on the rise we felt it was in everyone’s best interest to postpone the event until May when we will have a better chance of getting the track in the condition it needs to be in for a premier event like this. With the weather being the way it has, we haven’t been able to get on the track yet and a lot of our equipment is stuck in the infield,” concluded Lynn.

MACS Public Relations Director Jeff Geesey agreed with the decision, “Although we were expecting a spectacular field of cars, the fact that there is a little more inclement weather on the way later this week and the track crew has not been able to get on the speedway, it makes sense to hold off until the rescheduled date of Sunday, May 11th to run this much anticipated event.” concluded Geesey.

The Series will open their season on Saturday, April 12, at Rick and Ernie Jones, Oval Track Promotions, Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD for the ‘Western Maryland Open 50’. The event will carry a $30,000 purse and will pay $5,000 to the winner.

The slate of committed MACS regulars arriving at the opener at Cumberland include 2006 and 2007 MACS Champion, Racin’ Jason Covert; 2005 MACS Champion the “Floodwall Flyer”, Mike Balzano; 2002 Series Champion “Flyin’ School Teacher”, Jack Pencil; 2007 Lernerville Speedway Champion Alex Ferree; 2006 and 2007 ROY titlist Nick Dickson and Matt Lux, Frostburg, MD’s Chuck Clise, as well as 2008 MACS ROY contenders Michael Altobelli, Jr. Thomas Baker, Ron Delano, Greg Fetters, Coleby Frye, Russell King, Donald Lingo, Jr. and Tony Lombardi.

Past Series MACS winners at “The Rock” include: Jason Covert and Rick Elliott ‘07; Gary Stuhler, Steve Shaver, and Rick Elliott in 2006; Steve Francis during the inaugural season of the “Big Kahuna” in ‘01; Bo Feathers (‘00); as well as Gary Stuhler in 1998. The lone 2005 appearance was rained out and unable to be rescheduled. The average car count in the three events presented was 47 cars.

April 12, the pit gate at Cumberland opens at 2:00 p.m., with the drivers meeting at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with time trails slated for 5:45 p.m. Racing will immediately follow the conclusion of time trials at approximately 6:30 p.m. For more information contact the “The Rocks’ web address is www.therockspeedway.com.  or the Series at http://www.macsracing.com

New MACS Marketing Partner Highlight: Big Shot Performance LLC

Indiana, PA (April 1, 2008) The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series is proud to announce a marketing partnership with George LaBarbera’s Big Shot Performance LLC. The primary focus of LaBarbera’s enterprise is a brand new Shock Protector/Saver® product line.

LaBarbera, a veteran racer who understands the need for innovations in the racing industry, conceived the Shock Protector® system out of his racing experience. His focus was to attempt to reduce the cost of the sport by preserving shocks and extending their life expectancy. The Shock Protector® product is tried and tested and has proven to save unnecessary wear and tear of your shocks thereby extending the value of your investment.

The plastic Shock Protector® assembly is easy! The Shock Protector® measures 2.25" and works with all 2.5" I.D. springs. Simply slide the Shock Saver® unit, which should just cover the shock body, over the aluminum threaded body of the shock. With the Shock Protector® in place, the spring assembly now stays aligned and stabilized so that you get true spring rating! The unit should just cover shock body and may be cut to your specific length requirements. Yes, that’s right, these units, by design, are customizable to fit your specific application requirements; simply cut to a proper length and you’re ready to go as well as start saving money. By utilizing this product you can now avoid premature shock wear! With Shock Protector® now there is a way to prevent the metal-to-metal contact wear that normally occurs on any non-protected surface.

Let’s face it, in short track racing today, shocks are exposed to brutal forces that are constantly acting on them. Now Big Shot Performance has devised a system to help counteract the negative affects of shocks usage that provides a cost affective way to protect your valuable investment! The Shock Saver® systems are available online through Big Shot Performance, Allstar Performance, or at your local speed shop.

A full view of the setup and installation process for the Shock Protector® assembly can be viewed at our website, www.bigshotperformance.net/products.php

Other products available from Big Shot Performance, LLC, include adjustable spoiler sides, wheel spacer’s, spring loaded aluminum rods, aluminum and steel lug nuts, in addition to steel frame mounts. Any and all information on the products listed above and Big Shot Performance, LLC, can be found at their web address www.bigshotperformance.net

Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Well Represented At Lernerville Banquet

Indiana, PA (March 15, 2008) The Geesey Brothers Mid-Atlantic Championship Series are pleased to congratulate Series Media Liaison and Database Coordinator, Jason Shank for being awarded Lernerville Speedway's 'Bill Steinbach Media Award’ at their annual awards banquet. This award is given in Jason's recognition of his
accomplishments within the motorsports press. He joins this prestigious list of award winners; Valley News Dispatch (1994), WISR Radio (‘95), Alan Serena/WIXZ (‘96), WISR Crew (‘97), Bob & Cathy Chorpenning (‘98), Don Gamble (‘99), John Enrietto (2000), D.J. Johnson (‘01), Chris Dolack (‘02), Dan & Linda Fennell (‘03), Jeff Waller & Bob Artzberger (‘04), Paul Kogut/Valley News Dispatch (‘05), (No award given 2006), Tom Zuck and Lou Ruediger (2007).

The presentation was made by Speedway General Manager, Gary Risch Jr. “This guy (Shank) was instrumental with the birth of the ‘Firecracker 100’; the hours he put in helping Lernerville promote the event was insurmountable. Not only is he good at what he does but I also made a pretty good friend,” commented Risch. While accepting the award, Jason appeared quite emotional, “Wow, this is a total surprise,” a shocked Shank said in front of banquet guests. “I need to thank Gary for everything he has done for me; he helped me a lot getting my name out in the racing world and he let me be a part of what will be the next ‘Crown Jewel’ late model event. I’m just…shocked; I don’t know what else to say,” concluded Jason.

Shank has progressed a long way since becoming a columnist at FireOnDirt.com in December of 2001. FireOnDirt.com has since evolved into the very popular Dirt Track Digest.com which Jason now serves as the National Dirt Late Model Editor. While working with Dirt Track Digest, Shank began to make a name for him self throughout the racing industry. In '05 the break Jason was looking for came at MACS' "Triton 50" at Sharon Speedway, Hartford, OH. Jeff Geesey, the Series Public Relations Director and Event Coordinator, was recovering from a surgery and wasn’t able to get around like he normally does. Jeff commented, “At the time our (MACS) database coordinator was in college and Regina (Jeff’s wife and series scorer) was running the computer. Jason gave us a needed helping hand that night and we decided the following season to offer him the position as Database Coordinator.”

In 2006 Jason began his tenure with MACS and today has been asked to take on more responsibility with the Series. In late '06, Shank decided to start his own Motorsports Media and Marketing business called JNJ Motorsports Media. JNJ provides public relations services to drivers such as ‘99 and 2000 MACS Champion Lynn Geisler, ’06 and ’07 MACS Champion Jason Covert, ’03 MACS Rookie of the Year Keith Barbara, ’07 MACS Rookie of the Year Matt Lux, ’07 Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway Champion Jared Miley, as well as Windber, PA based Edge Racing Engines.

In 2007, along with assisting Gary and Lernerville with promotion of the first annual ‘Firecracker 100’ Shank accepted more responsibility with the Series. Jason was given the additional title of Media Liaison with the MACS and in '08 built the organization new online home at www.macsracing.com. “There have been many people that have helped me become a ‘somebody’ in racing, but Jeff has really been the one that put his faith in me giving me the opportunity to excel in the business I love. I want to thank Jeff for everything he has done for me,” Shank graciously added. Additionally, another key person in Jason's introduction into motorsports is Keith Koval. "Keith Koval is another person that took me under his wing when I got started. He introduced me to pretty much everyone I know; and if it wasn’t for Keith I would have never been introduced to Jeff,” concluded Shank

This season looks to be even more productive for Jason as he continues to work hard at achieving his goal of working in the racing industry full time. Information regarding JNJ Motorsports Media Public Relations and Web Design packages is available at www.jnjmotorsportsmedia.com  as well as contacting Jason at jshank@dirttrackdigest.com

Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Launches Brand New Online Home!

Indiana, PA (February 4, 2008) The Geesey Brothers’ Mid-Atlantic Championship Series are excited to announce the launch of a new and improved www.macsracing.com.  The new online home of MACS features all the news and series information that drivers, marketing partner, or fan could ask for from one website. “The new website looks absolutely fabulous. It is a fresh new look after several years and we are excited about this new beginning,” commented Series President Andy Geesey.

Jason Shank’s JNJ Motorsports Media, as well as Mike Mallett of MJM Web Solutions collaborated on the project building the new creation. “Jeff and I spoke about possibly expanding our business relationship during the latter portion of 2007,” Shank said. “After on-going discussions over the past couple of months; we collectively came to the conclusion that having Mike and I build the site while I maintain it for the Series would be of mutual benefit to everyone involved. The MACS website will be updated almost instantly after the event when internet access is available at the track or the hotel,” concluded Shank

“We are pleased to work with Mike and Jason,” said an ecstatic Geesey. “The website now has a few added features that were not available previously. Now we have an extensive driver’s page where over 30 different racers are highlighted with their own individual page. We’ve added rotating event as well as marketing partner banners, a series staff page, and a past champions page. This entire project came together well in my opinion with substance, organization, color, and affects. These two guys worked hard and tirelessly to get this site done in a timely manner. As an organization we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of the final product,” concluded Jeff Geesey, Series Event Coordinator.

Jason Covert Officially Honored as 2007 MACS Champion

York Haven, PA (January 9, 2007) Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and the Back-to-Back (2006/2007) Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert officially accepted his crown as 2007 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Champion this past Saturday, January 5th at the 11th Annual MACS Awards Banquet.

Covert won the Championship on the strength of an impressive winning season posting 3,595 points while earning $42,115. With his seasons earning plus the total point fund awards brings his total for the 2007 season with the MACS Series to almost $68,000. Covert defeated 287 different drivers from 10 states competing in all Series "A" mains.

Statistically, the 43A team amassed a phenomenally successful year with 2 huge A Main wins including Ernie Shelton’s USA 100 TM at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway cashing in on the $10,000 top prize as well as the an equivalent amount during the ‘Glockner Toyota Tundra 75’ at Portsmouth Raceway Park. He also notched A Main wins at Bobby Roher’s Eriez Speedway and the Opening night of the Big Kahuna VII at "The Rock". Additionally, he posted 10 top 4’s and 12 top 10’s plus 3 heat wins accompanied by 2 B Main checkers.

The champion shared a few comical stories about not only himself but his fellow competitors on the tour this past year but also accepted his championship awards package with his daughter at his side. "I want to thank Barry (Klinedinst) for giving me the opportunity to do this…again. I like being able to say again!" After thanking his sponsors and crew, Jason went on to thank his parents. "I think my mom had a tough year, she didn’t make it to many races this year but she was of as big as a part as my dad was getting this whole racing deal going, working all day at the factory then working all day at the farm and letting me do what I do."

Each year the Geesey Brothers and the MACS issue a championship ring to the champion. With this being Covert’s second title in as many years, Jason and Jeff Geesey worked out a surprise for car owner Barry Klinedinst. The surprise came after Covert accepted his championship awards when Geesey called Barry to the stage. A shocked Klinedinst accepted the championship ring and had a few things to say about the MACS, "When we looked at doing this we figured we had to get Covert to learn how to qualify but appearantly we are going to have to try something else (Covert recently criticizes himself on his qualifying efforts) but it’s a neat experience and it works out good for us," Barry continued, "I appreciate the help from everyone like American Racer (Tires) and all the guys, I am getting a little slower and everyone else is picking up the pace and they all do a wonderful job."

Jason Covert and Barry Klinedinst Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors for the 2007 season: Pre-Mach, Inc., Red Wing Shoes, Hershey’s Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Baker Carburetion, Bam’s Auto Center, Kuppy’s Diner, Dennis Eberly Building & Remodeling, American Racer Tires, Robbie Allen Enterprises, ADC, Autolite, CP Pistons, Demos, Kendal Oil, Dyers Rods, Donovan, Wrisco Aluminum, Stuhler Signs, KRS Graphics, Sunoco Race Fuels, Iskenderian, Total Seal, JE Pistons, Sue Stevenson Photography, JNJ Motorsports Media, CV Products, Jesel, Beyea Headers, PVM Performance Products, Summers Brothers, C-Line.
