VONDOHREN AND SINON BACK TOGETHER AGAIN AT GRANDVIEW

BLUE BELL, PA October 16, 2008 . . . Six time Grandview Speedway NASCAR Modified champion Craig VonDohren will be back in a Modified stock car owned by Chad Sinon for the 2009 season at Grandview.
“I am excited to make this announcement. I appreciate that Craig and his current Grandview car owner Mike Harvey were kind enough to allow me to be part of the team that will race at Grandview Speedway in 2009,” said Sinon, a successful Blue Bell, PA businessman who has become one of the most successful Northeast car owners. “It will be great to be part of a winning effort by Craig in 2009 at Grandview as he goes after his seventh track title.”
VonDohren is the all time leading feature winner in the Modified division at Grandview with 66 career victories to his credit. He was the leading feature winner at the Bechtelsville, PA oval in 2008 with six feature wins which helped him to a fourth place finish in the final season point standings for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds.
The car that the Oley, Pa racer will be driving at Grandview will be a Troyer Race Cars chassis with MAIN Racing Engine power and will carry VonDohren’s traditional No. 1c.
Sponsorship for the Grandview effort will come from BPG Racing, Chad Sinon Motorsports, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Mavericks Motorcycle Club, Troyer Race Cars, and MAIN Racing Engines.
“My involvement with Craig will just be as part of his racing at Grandview Speedway,” said Sinon. “I will not have involvement with Mike Harvey and Craig in their efforts at Big Diamond Raceway or in any of their Big Block events.”
In addition to announcing that VonDohren would driving at Grandview for him, Sinon also announced that he has signed for a second year as the sponsor of the BPG Racing Freedom 76 Modified Classic, the 39th annual edition in 2009, at Grandview Speedway.
“The race was a huge success and we loved being a part of it,” commented Sinon. “We already have plans to make it an even more exciting promotion for BPG Racing next year. It is a wonderful event to be part of and we hope to continue as sponsor for years to come.”
Sinon will continue to have Duane Howard as the driver of his cars at Big Diamond Raceway, Bridgeport Speedway and a number of traveling events. Howard just recently had a strong third place finish in the Rite Aid 200 at Syracuse, NY, the biggest dirt track modified racing event of the season.
In addition BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports will continue to sponsor the efforts of Ryan Watt in big block modified racing at Bridgeport, NJ Speedway.

SPONSORSHIP IS GETTING TOUGHER TO FIND BECAUSE OF ECONOMY, SAXTON’S SEMINAR WILL HELP RACERS

LANGHORNE, PA September 7, 2008 . . . “The sluggish economy is making it tougher for racers and event organizers to secure sponsorship,” said Ernie Saxton, publisher of the Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News ( a newsletter that offers sponsorship helps and news). “Those seeking sponsorship are going to have to be more creative and willing to do more for sponsors in order to be successful.”

Saxton will be offering a long list of sponsorship marketing helps when he presents his BASIC SPONSORSHIP HELPS FOR A SLUGGISH ECONOMY seminar on Saturday, November 15th at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Trevose, PA . The seminar will start at 9 am and will include a special guest speaker.

Those registering for the three hour seminar (including a question and answer session) by October 1st will get the special price of $49.95 and that will include a trial subscription to MSMN. After October 1st the registration fee will go to $74.95. Registration is limited to just 50 people.

To register or to obtain additional information telephone 215.752.7797 . Major credit cards are accepted. Ask for a sample copy of Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News.

The seminar will include a long list of tips on what should be done to attract sponsors and have a successful relationship with sponsors.
“It seems that everyone should know this but there are still racers that think just painting a name on a car is sponsorship. That is only a small part of it,” said Saxton. “And it is amazing how many racers can’t understand the importance of using the hauler as part of the sponsorship or the long list of other things they need to do to attract sponsors and keep sponsors happy.”

Saxton will offer close to 100 ideas and suggestions for being successful in securing sponsorship. The seminar is designed for the local short track racer, drag racer and those involved in other forms of local racing competition.

Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. offers a variety of sponsorship marketing services including the creation of sponsorship proposals, brochures, press releases, and more. In addition he does represent teams, racers and events seeking SERIOUS sponsorship on a retainer plus commission basis.

PAST WINNER DOUG HOFFMAN ENTERS BPG RACING FREEDOM 76

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 3, 2008 . . . Dirt track racing legend Doug Hoffman has not raced in a year but he feels he has what it takes to win and that is what he will be trying to do when he drives the BPG Racing 2008 Troyer modified stock car in the BPG Racing Freedom 76 Modified Classic at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, September 13th.
“It is a great ride and I still have the desire to win,” said the 49 year old Allentown, PA racer. “I never quit racing I just have not had the offer of a first class ride. Chad Sinon (the car owner) is giving me a first class ride.”
Hoffman’s brother Keith drove the same car to a second place finish behind Duane Howard in the Alpine Building and Pole Supply Coalcracker 100 at Big Diamond Raceway last weekend.
“I wish that I had had some time to run a few races. Grandview is a tough place,” said Hoffman who will have a guaranteed starting spot in the BPG Racing Freedom 76 as a past winner. “I hope the practice laps and qualifying heat race give me enough track time to get adjusted to the car. I am really looking forward to it. I hope that I can be competitive.”
The last time Hoffman raced was in a season ending event at Bridgeport, NJ Speedway in 2007.
Hoffman keeps busy these days promoting the Mahoning Valley Speedway with his wife and operating his own trucking business.
“He is a legend in the sport. Having Doug Hoffman in the race is going to add a lot of excitement, “ said car owner Sinon who is also sponsoring the 38th annual BPG Racing Freedom 76. “With Doug as a teammate to our other car with Duane Howard driving we have the possibility of a one-two finish just as Duane and Keith had at the Coalcracker. I am really excited about having Doug in my car.”
Hoffman will have plenty of competition in the $20,000 to win BPG Racing Freedom 76 Classic for modified stock cars. More than 70 entries are expected to try for starting spots in the event.
Jimmy Horton, another dirt track racing legend, will be driving a Norm Hansell Norm’s Save Station entry and should be tough competition for Hoffman along with Howard, six time track champion Craig VonDohren, seven time track champion Jeff Strunk, dirt track legend Kenny Brightbill, Ray Swinehart, Terry Meitzler, Doug Manmiller, Ryan Godown, Kerry Kratz and a long list of others.
Racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. and will include a full slate of qualifying events, the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 (last chance to qualify for the big event), the Alpine Building and Post Supply Cash Dash ($1000 to win) and it is all topped off by the 38th annual BPG Racing Freedom 76 offering $20,000 to the winner along with more than $1,000 in lap money.
Adult tickets are priced at $25, youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $7 and under 6 are FREE when accompanied by a paying adult.
Prior to the racing action the Beer City BPG Racing Freedom Fest will be presented on the grounds of the speedway starting at 1:30 pm. Featured will be a dunk tank (with several racers expected to participate), a tire changing contest (for kids and adults), race car display, driver interviews, an autograph session and more.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

PENNSYLVANIA ARCA 200 FINISH NOT WHAT CASOLA HAD ENVISIONED

POCONO, PA August 3, 2008 . . . “Pocono was a frustrating race for me, “ said Dominick Casola as he relived the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 run at Pocono Raceway on Saturday. “After qualifying a disappointing 22nd I still felt strongly that WinTron Racing had provided me with a car that was capable of finishing in a top five position.”

When the checkered flag fell for the ARCA RE/MAX Series Casola was credited with a 21st place finish in a 41-car starting field, one lap down to the winner’s 80 laps on the two and one-half mile tri-oval track.

“Once the race got the green and we were able to finish a few laps it became pretty clear to me that we just did not have a car that was going to be much of a factor,” commented the frustrated racer. “I was working hard in the A.Casola Farms Dodge but we were just not making progress. It was clear to me that we had a mid-pack car and that was the best I could hope for. It was disappointing to me knowing how hard we had all worked.

“It seemed that our Dodge was way down on power compared to the Toyotas and some of the Fords. The team kept trying all day to make some changes that would improve our performance but it just did not happen.”

A one hour rain delay did not help the situation changing track conditions dramatically.

Casola was optimistic going into the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 coming off some recent strong finishes at the June Pocono race and Kentucky. The Holmdel, NJ racer has never finished worse than 14th in three previous outings and had two top-ten finishes.

“With some attrition and having run a very clean race staying out of trouble we had the car in 10th spot with just six laps to go,” said the 20-year-old. “Then things just turned bad. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drove into my left rear while we were racing into Turn One. At 200 mph it was all I could do to keep it from being more serious than it was. The end result was the A.Casola Farms Dodge bounced off the wall.
“It is upsetting when I drive a clean race and I get ‘stuffed’ by a stupid move on the part of another competitor. I just lose respect for a racer like that.”

Casola had wanted to perform well at Pocono Raceway as he considers the Mattioli Family owned facility his home track and he many friends and family there to cheer him on.

Next on the schedule is the Nashville, TN Superspeedway set for Saturday, August 9th Toyota 150. This will mark the 18th appearance for the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Nashville. The race will be seen live on SPEED beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“We tested pretty well at Nashville a couple weeks back so I am looking forward to a strong effort,” commented Casola. “Nothing would make me happier than to qualify well and race well. A top five finish would be an early birthday present to myself (he turns 21 on August 17). The Win-Tron team will be working hard to get the A.Casola Farms Dodge in perfect shape for Nashville.

“I am a little down now, a little frustrated, disappointed, but I will snap out of it and be ready to give it my best effort at Nashville.”

CASOLA LOOKS FORWARD TO RETURN TO BERLIN WITH ARCA

HOLMDEL, NJ July 21, 2008 . . . Last year Dominick Casola was on his way to at least a top 10 finish at Berlin Raceway (Marne, Michigan) when another competitor changed his plans. Casola, driving the Andy Belmont owned A.Casola Farms Ford, got caught up in someone else’s miscue and that ended his outstanding run toward the front.
When Casola returns to Berlin Raceway this Saturday, July 26th, for the ARCA RE/MAX 200 he wants to erase last year’s race from his memory and replace it with a strong effort in the WinTron Racing A.Casola Farms Dodge, perhaps even a win.
“We are really excited about racing on the short track at Berlin,” said the young Holmdel, NJ racer. “Having gained a lot of my experience racing trucks at the one-third-mile banked asphalt Wall Township, NJ Speedway I enjoy the opportunity to race the short tracks. I love the Berlin track, it is really a fun little place to race.”
Casola, running a limited schedule of ARCA RE/MAX Series races this season as he seeks sponsorship to support a full schedule in 2009, is in his sophomore season of competition. In 2007 he finished 13th in the final ARCA standings despite not having the opportunity to race in the first event of the season, the Daytona 500.
“The WinTron Racing team that I am with this season had a great third place finish at Berlin last year,” said Casola. “That bodes well for our efforts this year. That worn out asphalt and tight quarters just makes for a great little racetrack that will allow for some great fun racing. And when it is all over we are planning to be in victory lane.”
The WinTron team has had some wins and pole position starts at the Berlin Raceway in the past.
“I feel that we will be fast right out of the hauler,” was the comment from an excited Casola. “We want to practice, qualify and race in the top five. We think we can get a pole and win the race as long as our luck is better than last year.”
Dominick is coming off of two strong top ten finishes in recent outings with the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Kentucky and Pocono Raceway.
“A great run at Berlin, where I know the competition is going to be tough, will get us really in great shape for the following week when we run at my home track Pocono on August 2nd,” said Casola. “Running well at Berlin and then adding a great finish at Pocono would go a long way in our efforts to attract sponsorship so that we can expand our ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule.”
Practice for the race at Berlin is scheduled from 2:30-4:00 PM (ET) Saturday, July 26th with SIM Factory Pole Qualifying following at 5 PM. The Berlin ARCA RE/MAX 200 is scheduled to go off at 8:30 PM.
Fans can catch all the Berlin ARCA RE/MAX Series action at arcaracing.com offering LIVE Timing & Scoring of all on-track activities as well as LIVE flag-to-flag streaming audio coverage of the race through the ARCA Racing Network exclusively on arcanation.com presented by Team Glock.

JUSTIN GROSZ READY TO KICK OFF HIS ARDC MIDGET CAREER

HAWLEY, PA July 5, 2008 . . . Sixteen-year-old Justin Grosz is anxious. He has been busy for the last several weeks testing the Grosz Motorsports No. 39 midget race car getting ready for his first start with the American Racing Drivers Club midget organization.
Grosz, an honor student at Wallenpaupack, PA High School, is entered in the ARDC sanctioned race scheduled for Accord, NY Speedway on Saturday, July 11th. ARDC will be there as part of STS Tire Night featuring a variety of stock car divisions in action along with the Wingless Midgets.
The 11th grader said, “The testing sessions have gone very well but it has also gotten my adrenaline really flowing. I am just so excited about taking this next step in my racing career.”
Grosz looks forward to racing against the many talented racers that are part of the ARDC. It will only help him become a better racer.
Though he is only 16 he has been racing for 10 years. He has won more than 150 events in Kart competition. He is a three time Northeast Pavement Series Champion, four time North Carolina Pavement Series Champion, and five time qualifier for the World Karting Association World Championships at Daytona Beach, Florida with his best finish being a second. He also had one WKA National event win.
In Micro Sprints he has three wins with one being in a wingless event at Path Valley Speedway, a third place finish in the 2007 Winter Nationals in North Carolina and a long list of other successes.
Grosz has been ready to go midget racing for a while but his age has held him back. Just a few days after his 16th birthday, July 7th, the good looking young racer will make his first start in a full size wingless midget.
He has been working on his physical stamina and he has held up well in his recent test sessions.
“The car has been pretty much reworked since we bought it,” said Justin’s dad John. “We think we really have a first class midget race car for Justin. All of us are anxious to get to the track and put Justin and the car to the supreme test in actual competition.”
The plan for the Grosz Motorsports team is to run all the remaining 2008 events on the ARDC schedule. In addition they are planning to run some United States Auto Club sanctioned midget events in the Midwest including the 4 Crown Nationals at Tony Stewart’s Eldora, Ohio Speedway.
Sponsorship for the Grosz Motorsports team comes from Grosz & Son Construction, Hindley Engines, Norsk Metals, Indocil Art & Design, BC Designs, Spike Chassis, Keizer Wheels and Butlerbuilt.
Grosz feels that a very active schedule, a lot of travel, will get him more attention and help him to move to the next level in his racing career.

DOMINICK CASOLA TO DRIVE CORRIE STOTT ENTRY AT DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

HOLMDEL, NJ/DOVER, DELAWARE. . . March 21, 2008. . Dominick Casola is taking his auto racing career to the next level.
The Holmdel, NJ racer, who used to race trucks at Wall Township, NJ Speedway, will be attempting to qualify a Chevy, prepared by Corrie Stott Racing, for the May 31st NASCAR “Heluva Good! 200” Nationwide race at Dover International Speedway. Stott, son of the legendary stock car racer Ramo Stott, has his team headquartered in Denver, NC. The Stott team has been fielding race cars in ARCA RE/MAX for a few years and has had cars in the NASCAR Nationwide circuit, the number two most popular form of racing in the nation.
A veteran competitor in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Casola will be making his first attempt at racing in a Nationwide race.
“It will be tough to make the field but it is the next step of competition for me,” said Casola. “I believe in my abilities as a driver and I know that Corrie Stott will give me a great car.”
The young racing talent has been running the last two seasons on the tough ARCA RE/MAX Series. He finished 13th in the final standings in 2007 despite missing the first race of the season at Daytona.
This season Dominick has been driving the A.Casola Farms Dodge prepared by Win-Tron Racing of Minnesota. After a streak of tough luck the team was able to come up with a strong 10th place finish in a recent event at Kentucky Speedway.
“Though I have never driven at Dover,” commented Casola. “I have seen some Cup races at the track and I have raced the Dover track at home using my racing simulator.
“A race track is a race track even if it is made of wood. The concrete surface at Dover will be a little different from the tracks I am used to. Concrete tracks are not as temperature sensitive as asphalt, they are a little more challenging but I feel I will be up for it. I really feel that I can do well in the 200-mile race once we make the starting field.
“I watched a Cup race at Dover back in 2002 and I was in awe. Now to be on the other side of the fence is just unbelievable to me. To be able to be there for a Nationwide series race is something I just never thought I would be able to do. This is a dream come true.”
Practice will take place on Friday, May 30th, 9 am to 10 am and again at 1:15 pm to 3 pm. Qualifying is set for Saturday, May 31st at 10:35 am.
The Heluva Good! 200 will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 31st on ESPN2 at 2:30 pm and heard on the Motor Racing Network.
Sponsorship, at a very reasonable cost, is available for the nationally televised event. For information telephone Dominick Casola at 908.601.6590.
After the Dover Nationwide race Casola will next race in the ARCA 200 at his home track Pocono Raceway on June 7th with the Win-Tron Racing prepared A.Casola Farms Dodge.
-End-

MEDIA NOTE: Casola is available for media interviews. He will be making a personal appearance in the Velocity Suite, part of the skybox complex, on behalf of Dover International Speedway early on Saturday afternoon, May 31.

DOMINICK CASOLA A VICTIM OF SOMEONE ELSE’S MISTAKE

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA February 10, 2008 . . . Young Dominick Casola was satisfied with his qualifying effort for the ARCA 200 at Daytona International Speedway. Even though they had to change an engine after a pre-qualifying practice session Casola was still able to run a 178.916 mph lap to qualify 18th out of 65 cars that were trying for the 43 starting positions.
Casola, a 13th place finisher in the final 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings, was making his first start at the two and one-half mile high-banked Daytona International Speedway. He had run well in December testing and was excited about his chances in the Saturday evening race.

The former Wall Township, NJ Speedway truck racer got settled in early in the 80-lap event and was getting adjusted to his new A.Casola Farms Dodge mount that had been prepared by Win-Tron Racing (formerly Country Joe Racing) out of Lakeville, MN.
During his 2007 rookie season on the ARCA circuit Casola had run a Ford so the Dodge was a new experience for the talented young racer.

Casola was making a move up through the field from his 18th starting spot and felt that he had a very strong car. However with just 30 laps completed Casola was caught up in the “big one”, a huge wreck that involved 16 cars and eliminated 13 from competition.
The A.Casola Farms Dodge team made four pit stops trying to keep the car in the race despite heavy damage from the accident.
“The crew did a fantastic job of keeping us on the lead lap even though we had to make four stops trying to repair the damage,” said Casola. “Finally the clutch started to slip and there seemed to be a problem with the transmission as a result of the accident and we just decided to take it to the garage.

“It was disappointing because we felt that we had a very strong car. Our race plan was basically to stay with the leaders, stay out of trouble and then go for a strong finish in the final 20-laps. Unfortunately we did not get to do that. That is just part of restrictor plate racing. I do think we have a car and a team that can be a contender for some wins during the 2008 season.”
Casola was credited with finishing 34 laps and that earned him a 33rd place finish.
Last year when he finished 13th in the final season point standings he did not run the opening race at Daytona so he is actually ahead of his 2007 efforts.

Next race for the A.Casola Farms Dodge team is at Salem, Indiana Speedway on Sunday, April 13th.

RICH KUIKEN JR WINS SPONSORSHIP CONTEST WORTH $5,000

LANGHORNE, PA January 24, 2008 . . . NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour racer Rich Kuiken Jr. is a happy young man. His entry in the Chad Sinon Motorsports/Joe Bertothy sponsorship contest took first place and earned him $4,000 in cash along with more than $1,000 in awards.

The Staffordville, NJ racer will carry the Sinon/BPG Racing and Joe Bertothy logos on his race vehicles.
The Kuiken entry won out over more than 170 entries with some coming from as far away as California.
“We had some fantastic entries. A lot of hard work went into many of the sponsorship proposals that were entered in the contest,” said contest organizer Ernie Saxton, publisher of Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News. “Kuiken’s entry had it all. The offer, the demographics, the media coverage and much more was all presented in a very attractive package. It was one of the best we have seen on this level.”

Kuiken Jr. will race the full NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour along with the huge North-South Shootout in Concord, NC late in the season. If finances will allow the team will also run some of the NASCAR Northern and ASA Southern Modified races.
“It was an honor to win the contest.” said young Kuiken. “Considering there were more than 170 entries it is quite an accomplishment to be the winner. It goes without saying that we will put the money and the awards to good use.”
In addition to the $4,000 cash Kuiken will receive more than $200 worth of Hero Cards courtesy of Chris Budihas’ Racerboy Marketing, a $200 custom helmet paint job by Brian Hirthler’s Four Star Lettering, a website creation from Jay Dugan’s Radical Design valued at more than $500 along with an Ernie Saxton Sponsorship and Consulting package valued at more than $500.
Saxton, along with Sinon, is now considering the possibility of offering another sponsorship contest near the middle of the season.
Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. offers sponsorship marketing services, public and media relations, custom sponsorship proposals, sponsorship representation and more. ESC, Inc. also publishes the monthly sponsorship newsletter, now in its 24th year, Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News.

Tidaback's Lifelong Dream Comes Trues In Atlantic City Victory

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -JANUARY 20,2008 . . . Mike Tidaback could only sum up his "Gambler's Classic" presented by SoBe Life Water victory with three words: "dream come true."

Tidaback, who first attended races at Boardwalk Hall at age five  back in 1973, etched his name in the prestigious list of race  winners on Saturday night, earning $5,000-plus as the victor of the 40-  lap M&R Midget (TQ Midget/600cc Micro-Sprint) headliner. In doing so, the ATQMRA regular upheld the honor of the Three  Quarter Midget contingent against a talent-laden field of  superstars.

"We're kind of waving the ATQMRA flag tonight," quipped the Little  Falls, N.J., driver after celebrating before a near capacity crowd. Tidaback drove an 18-year-old Lindblad Chassis with a Rudy  Boetticher Sr.-built engine.  "We're a small team with me and a couple guys," Tidaback, 39,  surmised, noting the importance of a victory at Boardwalk Hall.  "You run against a lot of the best Northeast guys here. It's big  for us. This is kind of our SuperBowl."

Tidaback started fifth in his No. 43 and used a spectacular move in  lapped traffic to take the lead from Hamilton, N.J.'s Tim Adams at  the halfway mark.

Adams, who had surpassed Canadian James Michael Friesen for the top  spot on a lap-four restart, was momentarily boxed in behind slower  traffic through turns three and four.

Jumping to the outside, Tidaback pulled event at the center of turn  three, nosing ahead on the frontstretch. The cars momentarily  tangled, with Tidaback's car jumping sideways.

Both drivers regained control before entering turn one. "I stuck it on the outside," he recalled. "We came off turn four  side-by-side and I think Timmy (Adams) gave me a wheel. I was  sideways at the start/finish line (to click off lap 20) taking that pass."

Tidaback survived a final scrape with Adams on a restart with three  circuits remaining for his breakthrough Boardwalk Hall triumph,  besting his previous effort of seventh from 2007.

Fairlawn, N.J.'s Joey Payne, the '07 "Gambler's Classic" winner,  fought hard for a second-place finish. Payne started 13th, pitted  to replace a flat tire on a lap-four restart and edged out a  spinning Adams for the runner-up spot.

Adams, who crashed across the finish line, was credited with third,  followed by Bill Davis Development driver Bobby Santos III in Gary  King's No. 1K 600cc Micro-Sprint. The Franklin, Mass., driver was  the first Micro-Sprint across the line.

After winning the C- and B-Mains just to qualify for the feature,  Fort Lee, N.J.'s Frank Polimeda charged to fifth.

Earlier in the night, Aston, Pa.'s Lou Cicconi Jr. earned $500 as  the winner of the 10-lap Behrent's Performance Warehouse Dash- or-  Cash. Cicconi's bid for A-Main glory was derailed by two  backstretch tangles, the second of which knocked him from the event  on lap seven.

Versatile Rich "Toby" Tobias Jr. of Annville, Pa., hopped into a  borrowed car and authored a stirring drive to victory in th 25-lap  Slingshot main event. The creator of the Slingshot division started  22nd, survived a lap-10 spin and charged into the top spot just two circuits from the finish with a bold, turn-three pass of race-long  leader Bobby Butler.

Tobias, who was driving a No. 64x typically wheeled by his nephew,  Paul Lotier Jr., donated his earnings to the National Fragile X  Research Foundation.

Past race winner Ryan Smith was second, followed by Butler, Bill  Van Inwegen Jr. and Steven Intravaia.

Pleasant Valley, N.Y.'s Christopher Daley thwarted a late charge in  the form of North Carolina's Bob Baker to win the 25-lap Champ Kart  main. Baker was a close second.

After a successful event, plans are already in the works for the  2009 running of the "Gambler's Classic" event by Len Sammons  Motorsports Productions.

M&R Midget Feature Finish: Mike Tidaback, Joey Payne, Tim Adams,  Bobby Santos III, Frank Polimeda, Jack Spence, Steve Smith, Rob  Vivona, Mike Lichty, Tim Proctor, Billy Pauch Sr., James Friesen,  Chris DeRitis, Jeff Heotzler, Jeff Kot, Johnny Payne, Danny Shirey,  Greg Cable, Donald Zrinski, Lou Cicconi Jr., Matt Janisch, Erick Rudolph, Mike Iles, Pat Bealer, Stewart Friesen, Monnie Wonder.

Cicconi, Shirey, Adams Win Roaring 20s On Friday At AC

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ ,JANUARY 18, 2008 . . . Lou Cicconi Jr. showed he is poised to better his 2007 runner-up finish by one position this time around.

Cicconi took the checkered first in the final M&R Midget 'Roaring 20' Friday night at Boardwalk Hall during 'A-1 Racing Products presents Qualifying Night,' a prelude to the "Gambler's Classic" presented by SoBe Life Water to be contested on the hall's concrete floor on Saturday (Jan. 19).

Cicconi was second to Joey Payne in the race's '07 running.

Tim Adams and Danny Shirey topped the other 20-lap TQ Midget/600cc Micro-Sprint qualifying events run on Friday night. Aston, Pa.'s Cicconi, the 2004 & '06 winner of the "Gambler's   Classic," took the lead on the opening circuit of the nightcap and  wheeled his Hentrich Bros. No. 75 TQ Midget to a dominant  checkered.

Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car ace Stevie Smith of New Oxford,  Pa., drove to second place in the RAACE Foundation No. 19, a car  built by Cicconi. Micro-Sprint ace Pat Bealer of Walnutport, Pa.,  was third in Jason Van Doren's No. 22, with Bill Davis development  driver Bobby Santos III placing fourth in Gary King's No. 1K Micro  -Sprint.

NASCAR Sprint Cup racer Ken Schrader of Fenton, Mo., driving the  Alan Mollott No. 51, overturned during a lap-13 frontstretch  tangle. Tim Adams, a law enforcement officer in Hamilton, N.J., waits all  year to compete in Boardwalk Hall. His effort paid off with a  victory in the first M&R Products 20-lapper.   Adams's No. 9 inherited the lead when Fort Lee, N.J.'s Frank  Polimeda, who led laps2-17, headed to the pit area. Adams led the  rest of the way to take the checkered first over dirt Modified  racer Mike Iles of Medford, N.J., who surged into second on lap 18.  Ransomville, N.Y., teenager Erick Rudolph, a Western New York  asphalt Modified standout, was third and Mike Tidaback was fourth. Oberlin, Ohio's Danny Shirey, a 17-year-old Supermodified racer,   took the victory in the second 20-lap event driving a Micro-Sprint  he has run indoors on both dirt and pavement, including the  ecent Fort Wayne (Ind.) event.

Shirey took command moments after a multi-car frontstretch crash  that collected a half-dozen cars, then fended off a mid-race charge  from James Michael Friesen to keep his No. 16 out front. Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., settled for second. Johnny  Payne of Milford, Pa., and Jack Spence of Bear, Del., took fourth. The top-four finishers in the 'Roaring 20s' transferred  into Saturday night's 40-lap A-Main.

Dirt Modified legend Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, N.J., set fast time with a lap of 9.217 seconds, besting fellow dirt Mod racer/past event winner Jeff  Heotzler (9.236 seconds). 2007 race winner Joey Payne of Fairlawn,  N.J., was third quick (9.353 seconds), the final time-trialer to be  locked into the A-Main field.

In Slingshot action, Matt Carman of Flemington, N.J., fended off  defending race winner Ryan Smith to take the checkered in the first  of the 'Dirty Dozen' 12-lap qualifiers. In the second 12-lap event, Gary Hieber, 18, of Langhorne, Pa., led from start to finish from  the pole. The final 12-lap 'Dirty Dozen' Slingshot event featured a  crowd-pleasing victory for Nazareth, Pa.'s Tiffany Wambold. The 16 -year-old thwarted a final-lap bid from Jeff Hartman of Flagtown,  N.J.

In the four 12-lap Champ Kart qualifiers, Timmy Solomito of Islip,  N.Y., Coby Cressinger of Selinsgrove, Pa.; Lockport, N.Y.'s Larry  Stolzenberg; and Tammy Smith of Binghamton, N.Y., were victors. Racing continues on Saturday night (Jan. 18) with the second night  of the Len Sammons Motorsports Productions "Gambler's Classic"  featuring the 40-lap M&R Midget A-Main and 25-lap mains for the Slingshots and Champ Karts and the Behrent's Performance Warehouse  Dash for Cash.
