FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE---THANK YOU
RAHMER TOPS DARRAH AND SEVENTY OTHER COMPETITORS TO WIN CINDY ROWE AUTO GLASS PA
SPRINT SPEEDWEEK 2008
York Haven, Pa.....The 2008 Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car
Speedweek could go down in the record books as a number of things. It could be
termed as another year in the continuing saga of Fred Rahmer as "Speedweek
King". It could be termed as the year of rainouts, although 2008 didn't break
any records in that department. It could even be termed as the year Rahmer even
qualified well.
What it will be know as, is the year Rahmer, the wiley veteran, outgunned Cody
Darrah, the recent high school graduate, to win his 11th Speedweek crown, in 18
years.
Simply put, Rahmer did everything well this year during Speedweek. He won two
races, he passed cars, and he even time trialed well. For the record, Rahmer won
two of the five races, finished second in one, third in one, and dropped out of
the other while running third after starting tenth. Rahmer also set fast time
for four of the five races, and won one heat race. In the end it was more than
enough to best Darrah for the Speedweek crown.
Darrah, an 18 year old fourth generation driver, who just graduated from Red
Lion High School, put together a very solid week to let everyone know that he is
the real deal. Darrah won one race and never finished out of the top ten in the
five races. His other finishes included a fourth, a seventh and two eighths.
Greg Hodnett quietly put together a solid week to claim third in the Speedweek
series points. Hodnett's best finish was fourth, which he did twice. He also
finished fifth twice, and had one DNF in 17th position. Hodnett also won two
heat races.
Jeff Shepard made the biggest splash during Speedweek with his Hagerstown win
over Rahmer. Rahmer had come from eighth spot to pass Shepard for the lead, but
Shepard fought back for a popular win. Had his other Speedweek races gone as
well, he would have fared better than fourth in the final rundown. Shepard also
had finishes of fifth, sixth, 13th and 16th, plus one heat win.
Brian Leppo completed the top five in Speedweek points, and only missed out on
all top ten runs by two positions. Leppo was also the only driver other than
Rahmer to set fast time during this Speedweek. His best run was a third, with
fifth, two tenths, and a 12th his other scores.
The 18th Annual Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek lost
three of the scheduled eight races to rain. That is something that has also
happened in two other Speedweeks (1995 and 1996). Events that were rained out
were those at Bedford, Williams Grove, and the first of two scheduled for Port
Royal.
Rahmer won events at Grandview and Selinsgrove, while Doug Esh won at Lincoln,
Shepard at Hagerstown, and Darrah at Port Royal.
A total of 71 different drivers competed in Speedweek events this year, with
about five others on hand for nights that rained out prior to competition.
To answer the question, Rahmer has more than four previous "Fast Times" in
Speedweek competition, but in the past eleven years he had only set "Fast Time"
five times. He nearly doubled that number in one week.
Rahmer pushed his series leading win total to 30 wins during Speedweek. Shepard
and Esh each scored their third Speedweek wins, while Darrah's was his first.
Twenty different drivers have now won a Speedweek event. There have been a total
of 117 Speedweek races.
Rahmer's other Speedweek titles have come in 1992-95, 1998, 2000, and 2003-06.

Two Big Nights of Racing at SSP This Independence Holiday Weekend on Thursday
and Saturday Nights
Newberrytown, PA (July 1, 2008) Racing returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park
for a special midweek show on Thursday, July 3 with the Eichelberger’s U-Pull It
Super Show III featuring the ARDC Midgets, 600cc Micro Sprints, Legends Cars and
Women on Wheels Stock Cars. The 600cc Micro Sprints portion is part of the 2nd
Annual PA 600cc Sprint Car Speedweek with entries expected from all over the
United States.
Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on July 5, with the 3rd Annual
Summer Fun Championships featuring a 30-lap feature event for the Late Models
paying $1,200-to-win. Also, the Street Stocks ($500-to-win), Xtreme Stock Cars
($400-to-win) and Four Cylinder Stock Cars ($400-to-win) will compete in 25-lap
feature events.
On both Thursday and Saturday nights, the pit gates will open 4:30 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying races begin at 7:00 p.m.
followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Thursday and Saturday Nights will
be Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 &
Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices for everyone on
Thursday night will be $20.00. Pit pass prices on Saturday night are $25.00 with
a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum
age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth
certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
A special $4.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from June
28 races will be in place for this Thursday or Saturday’s events. Returning fans
are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the
stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for
great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
At last weekend’s racing action at SSP on Saturday, June 28, for the fourth time
this season, rains have forced the postponement of feature events after
qualifying was completed. This is an unusual situation that was not encountered
even once in the first four seasons that the Fishers have owned the speedway.
The rain storm has forced the feature events of the following divisions to be
completed on the following dates: Late Models (Saturday, August 9); Street
Stocks (Saturday, August 23) and Xtreme Stock Cars (Saturday, August 16). “This
season has been very trying on both the fans and race teams and we wish things
would be different,” said Todd Fisher, “but we will do our best to get through
all of the make-up features with the least amount of problems for the teams.
This is why we have rescheduled them in August, so that teams can properly
prepare for running two races in one night.”
Two makeup feature events from May 17 were completed with Manchester’s Randy
Christine Jr. winning his first career Late Model feature event over John Moser,
Jr. and Bud Witmer. In the other make-up feature event, Chris Heller from
Carlisle won his first Xtreme Stock Car race of the season. Matt Wampler and Sam
Rial finished second and third respectively. Daryl Sipe won the 10-lap Mini Van
feature presented by Susquehanna Recyclers.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW
on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information, contact the
speedway offices at (717) 292-1696 or visit online at sspracing.net. On raceday,
please use the track phone at (717) 938-9170 for up-to-date information.

Mark Spencer, Dave Bentley and Frank Katona Endure Humidity to Notch Mountain
Madness Wins
By: Gene Ostrowski
St. Johns, PA- Rain threatened round #4 of the ABC Car Crushing Mountain Madness
Enduro Series Sunday at Mountain Speedway. However, after a few brief showers
before hand, the enduro racing got underway in true enduro style. In the end,
Mark Spencer notched his first win in the 6/8-cylinder division and Dave
Bentley, Jr. visited victory lane in the four-cylinder class. Frank Katona was
victorious in the trophy truck enduro.
Phil Lamonaco, Ed Brown, Jr. and Jeff Walls shared the front row for the start
of the 100-lap 6/8-cylinder enduro event. After leading the first two circuits,
Lamonaco was overtaken by Dominic Ranieri. Ranieri held the point until lap
eight, when Joe Jentile overtook him in lapped traffic.
Mark Spencer of Nanticoke, PA began to move through the field. He caught Jentile
and completed a pass for the top spot on lap nineteen. Although he dropped to
second, Jentile stayed glued to Spencer’s back bumper, just waiting for the
driver to make a mistake.
With twenty laps complete, Spencer remain in front of Jentile and Ranieri held
third. Lamonaco was fourth and Bob Wink worked his way into the top five.
The third of five red flags flew on lap twenty-seven when Jamie Pressley slammed
into an unoccupied car in turn three. Pressley was not injured, but was done for
the day. Ironically, the next red was displayed on the flowing lap when TJ
Kapish, who was running in the top ten, rear ended a car driven by Bob Kulik,
who was unable to get up to speed on the front stretch. Both drivers climbed
from their cars and returned to the pit area before green flag racing resumed.
Jentile regained the advantage over Spencer on lap forty-six, but Spencer fought
back and into the lead twelve circuits later. The duo exchanged the top spot two
more times before Spencer drove off to victory for his first Mountain
6/8-cylinder enduro victory. Jentile settled for second, with Ranieri, Lamonaco
and Wink rounding out the top five.
Matt Mattern, Bobby Coco and Mark Foreman led the four-cylinder field down to
the drop of the green flag in the 100-lap event. Steve Petry worked around the
outside of the leaders and took the top spot before a single lap was scored.
Pat Verwys started fifteenth on the grid, but quickly moved through traffic to
take second only two laps into the event.
Verwys caught and passed Petry for the lead on lap fourteen, but his lead was
short-lived. Verwys had engine woes and retired from the race on lap
thirty-four. The exchange gave the top spot back to Petry. Dave Bentley held
second, with Harry Sager, Robert Fink and Mark Foreman rounding out the top
five.
The only red flag of the race flew when Tom Stevens experienced problems and
rolled his car onto its roof on the backstretch. Sevens was able to walk away
from the incident.
Green flag racing resumed and Petry appeared to have the car to beat, as he had
an entire lap on the field.
That changed on lap seventy-nine when his car slowed on the speedway. Petry hit
the pits and never made a return to the track. The change of events gave Bentley
the top spot. Foreman moved into the second spot, with Larry Spencer, Jr., Jack
McElrath and Jimmy White, Jr. in the top five.
Bentley made no mistakes over the closing laps and drove off to his first win of
the season over Foreman, McElrath, Spencer and White.
Frank Katona and Jeff Gregor battled side by side for a number of laps in the
15-lap trophy truck event. Gregor grabbed the lead from the get-go, but Katona
fought back and took the top spot on lap two. Katona held on to notch the win
with Gregor finishing as the runner-up.
The next Mountain Madness Enduro Series event is slated for Sunday, August 24th.
The 6/8-cylinders, 4-cylinders and trophy trucks will be in action.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Accord, NY - Nick Lapp Scores Surprising Accord Speedway Win
By Steve Pados, Accord Media
Embraced by a solid military presence that was matched up with the great musical
sounds of DJ Tim Adams, an amazing light show by Wild Bill, and a racing card
that is second to none, Gary Palmer's Accord Speedway ushered in the start of a
series of special events that is certain to have people buzzing about for some
time to come. The fabulous racing at the facility keeps getting better and
better due to the great playing surface Promoter Palmer provides to the more
than 120 racers that funneled into the pit area to do battle last Friday night.
The track was again dust free and when the racers suggested a bit of grading be
done to shave down the "Accord Cushion", Palmer jumped on the grader and soon
had the raceway groomed and ready for the remaining feature events. Joe's Wash
and Go was the headline sponosr for the evening's racing activities.
The 23-car Rhinebeck Ford Modified starting field rolled down for the start with
Nick Lapp behind the wheel of the signature numbered 406 Big Block racer that
Rich Ricci Jr had raced all season long and won with on opening night. Ricci Jr
took over the controls of the number 55 that Lapp had raced a few times prior
and of late enjoyed a top ten finish in the machine. Ricci Jr would start from
the 15th starting spot. Lapp took the lead at the drop of the green flag and
raced away to a small advantage over second starting Mel Schrufer. A caution on
lap-8 for the disabled machine of newcomer JJ Bunnell brought the field to a
halt. On the restart Lapp again pulled away as he hit his marks with each
passing lap. By this time Mike Ricci began to make his presence known as he
slipped into second and began hunting the raceway to find a way around the
high-flying Lapp. With each passing lap Ricci would try another line as
attempted to wrestle the lead away from Lapp.
As the pair battled, Rich Ricci Jr broke free and entered into the chase for the
win. Mike Ricci now had to contend with brother Rich and the turn of events gave
Lapp some breathing room he took advantage of as he raced under Kenny Marshall's
checkered flag to secure the victory. Mike Ricci was second with Rich Ricci Jr
third, "Showtime" Danny Tyler was fourth and Mel Schrufer rounded out the top
five. The second five consisted of John McGill, current point leader Andy
Bachetti, Bill Papula, Rick Mill, and the returning "Iceman" Dom Roselli.
The Heart Chevrolet Spec Sportsman event began as the Steve Pinto show as the
second year driver took off from his pole start and led easily through the first
eight laps. Rookie driver Bobby Hassenmayer began to pressure Pinto on the
bottom side of the raceway and slipped by to take the lead on the third turn of
lap 10 and led the remaining 10-laps to capture his first win the big car ranks.
Phil Recchio took up the chase when Pinto fell off the pace and pressured
Hassenmayer throughout but couldn't make the winning pass and wound up second.
Defending champion Greg Hastie battled for third and the "Bushkill Bullet" Kyle
Rohner continues to impress with a great run from 12th starting place to finish
fourth. Pinto held on to complete the top five.
The Camper's Barn Sportsman affair began with Ray See Jr turning up the wick to
lead the first 9-laps of the 20-lap event. Brian Krummel, a winner earlier in
the year, methodically worked his way into contention and took over the lead on
lap-10. Once in front, Krummel raced out to safe distance to capture his second
win of the 2008 racing season. Ray See Jr was second with "Highside" Howard
Jarvis rallying for third place from his 12th starting position. Jerry Craig was
fourth and Steve Meilleur rounded out the top five.
In the Enzo's Ristorante and Pizza Pro Stock main event, Don J Williams took the
lead at the start and manhandled his racer for the first 16-laps of the event.
Larry Temple Jr applied heavy pressure from the start as he sought to find a way
around Williams, who worked extremely hard to keep his racer going in the right
direction. As Williams entered turned two on the 17th lap, the car turned to the
inside of the raceway and Williams wrestled with the machine to point it
straight but by that time Temple was gone as was Bill Deak Jr. A lap later
defending track champion Don Williams found his way by Deak Jr and though
Williams got close, Temple Jr got the great run off of turn four to win the
event. Williams settled for second with Bill Deak Jr holding on to third, John
Roese finishing fourth, and Jon Routhier rounding out the top five.
The always exciting Bryant's Towing Pure Stock feature event began with Mike
Dubois grabbing the lead at the outset. Dubois raced out to a comfortable margin
by lap-5 but making his presence known by that time was defending track champion
Joe Judge as he raced from 9th starting position to challenge with the leader
Dubois. Lap after the pair battled on with Judge pulling alongside but never
being able to gain an advantage. Dubois crossed the finish line first with Joe
Judge finishing second. Paul Aragon Jr was third with two-time winner Bill Judge
in fourth and Ralph Ronk completing the top five.
MUDPLUGS:
New racers continue to surface at the speedway as Bushkill, Pennsylvania's JJ
Bunnell added his name to the growing list of Modified drivers at Accord.
Bunnell raced Slingshot race cars last year but made the big leap into the
Modifieds for the 2008 racing season. Bunnell did not finish the feature event.
The veteran Everett Haubrich took over the controls of the AJ Wiliams Spec
Sportsman machine as Haurich was on hand to help the newcomer Williams with some
set-up tips. Don Coon returned to action with his pure stock racer and Charlie
Rose returned with a new mount as well.
Pro Stock heat race winners were Don J Williams and Jon Routhier. Paul Aragon Jr,
Mike Dubois and Bill Judge were victorious in the Pure Stock heats.
Sportsman heat winners included Ray See Jr, Jeff Hulseapple, and Brian Krummel.
Spec Sportsman heat winners included Eric Moon and Steve Pinto.
Modified heat winners included Mike Ricci, Mel Schrufer and David Bush.
The pre-race interviews included Accordian "Driver of the Week" "Dynamite" Danny
Cross, Steve Krom and "Showtime" Danny Tyler as they brought their race cars
behind the grandstands to sign autographs and chat with Announcer Steve Pados.
The format has proved to be quite popular with the fans as they become more
in-tune with the racing equipment and the drivers who are performing for them on
the racetrack. Later interviews while there was a break in the action included
the 2007 National Slingshot Champion Billy Van Inwegen and Pro Stock driver
Emerson Cargain Jr.
A surprise visitor to the speedway was Behrent's Performance Center owner Harry
Beherent along with his wife. Behrent, a noted Modified wheel twister himself
just a few years ago, enjoyed the close racing action the Accord speedplant
provides.
The US National Guard 104th Military Police Battalion returned to the speedway
along with the US Army Reserve to do the flag raising ceremonies at the
speedway. Six Hum-Vees accompanied the group as the racing fans were encouraged
to chat with them or to view the military equipment they brought with them for
the evening. Staff Sargeant Van Vleet again headed up the participation by the
military. The large grandstand crowd gave the military group another standing
ovation and did again when racing ambassador John McGill spearheaded a campaign
to have Sargeant Eddie Ryan on hand to wave the green flag to start one of the
feature events. Ryan was gracious as he waved to the standing crowd from his
wheelchair and surrounded by many well-wishers who assisted in getting him to
the event.
Wild Bill Did his usual excellent sky lighting extravaganza much to the delight
of the large crowd on hand for the event. In the background, DJ Tim Adams played
some great music that brought a carnival like atmosphere to the popular
speedplant.
Midweek Madness was a success last Wednesday night as more than 140 competitors
were on hand to test the lightning quick oval. RJ Smykla proved to be the
opening night winner in the Slingshots with the "Montgomery Missile" Anthony
Perrego in second, Kayla Smykla in third and the "Z-Man" Zach O'Connell rounding
out the top four place winners. Charlie Lawrence finished fifth. "Mighty"
Michael Horton was an easy winner in the Junior Slingshot event with Joseph Kata
finishing in second.
Another jam-packed week of Accord action is in store for the racing fans as
Midweek Madness hits on Wednesday night and a Fourth of July Friday evening hits
with the famous BBQ Chicken feast awaiting the fans on KB's Photos Night. All
divisions will be in action along with the return of the Accord Mini Sprints.

Randy Christine Jr. Wins His Career First Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday
Night; Rain Forces Postponement of Three Feature Events
Newberrytown, PA (June 28, 2008) – For the fourth time this season, rains have
forced the postponement of feature events after qualifying was completed. This
is an unusual situation that was not encountered even once in the first four
seasons that the Fishers have owned the speedway. The rain storm has forced the
feature events of the following divisions to be completed on the following
dates: Late Models (Saturday, August 9); Street Stocks (Saturday, August 23) and
Xtreme Stock Cars (Saturday, August 16). “This season has been very trying on
both the fans and race teams and we wish things would be different,” said Todd
Fisher, “but we will do our best to get through all of the make-up features with
the least amount of problems for the teams. This is why we have rescheduled them
in August, so that teams can properly prepare for running two races in one
night.”
Racing returns to SSP for a special midweek show on Thursday, July 3 with the
Eichelberger’s U-Pull It Super Show III featuring the ARDC Midgets, 600cc Micro
Sprints, Legends Cars and Women on Wheels Stock Cars. The 600cc Micro Sprints
portion is part of the 2nd Annual PA 600cc Sprint Car Speedweek with entires
expected from all over the United States. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit
gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.
Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on July 5, with the 3rd Annual
Summer Fun Championships featuring a 30-lap feature event for the Late Models
paying $1,200-to-win. Also, the Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Four
Cylinder Stock Cars will compete in 25-lap feature events. Racing action begins
at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open
at 5:00 p.m.
