600 Micro Sprints

Friday night was the TUSA Regional race at Delmarva Motorsports Park along with action from the other divisions racing at the 1/4 clay oval

The 600 Micro Sprints put on a great show as Jeremy Lynch and Luke Thomas fought it out for the entire race. Lynch was looking for his first win this season with Thomas trying out a new car for builder Stallard Chassis. The two battled lap after lap in the twenty lap feature with Lynch finally taking the win with Thomas close on his heels. Jon Warfield is trying to turn his season around and took a major step Friday with at third place finish after battling with points leader Mike Baker for the spot. Baker couldn't find a way back  round Warfield after Warfield passed him at the midway point, but stayed with him and finished in fourth. Joey Startt had another stellar run with fifth.

Cameron Merriman took yet another win but it wasn't as easy this week. Ken Lester came back after a short break and looked like he would take the win. Merriman looked high and low with Lester hanging on to his line. Finally, the young man looked to the inside in turn two and Lester pushed up slightly allowing Merriman to get underneath for the lead and eventual win. JT Knight took third with Charles  Cobourn and Amanda McClosky rounding out the top five.

Modified Lites

The TUSA Mod Lites came in force for the first Regional Race of the season.  Tim White returned and served notice he would be the one to beat as he took his heat race and sat his #93 car on the point for the feature. White had a great start from the beginning and never looked back as he stayed ahead of rival Erik McKinney driving for Robert Hamm out of Alabama. McKinney tried to get along side during the restarts, but couldn't find the line. Curt Miles Jr. stood in third after having to work his way back to the front. Kyle Fuller did another great job as the young man worked his way to fourth just ahead of Hamm.

Pro Mod Lites saw another first time winner for the season as Rusty Dadds took the win ahead of Richie Wilson. Dadds, bullied his way through thefield and pulled away after he got out front for his first ever win at the track. Taylor McCracken not only had to battle his car, but his health as well as the fourteen year old had the flu, but took third in spite of his sickness. Donnie Ackenbrack ran fourth just ahead of Kyle Fuller who rounded out the top five.

The Jr. Mod Lites saw the Millsboro Missile, Dylan Evans take the Regional Feature in style. Evans stayed out front for another win and took the lead in the TUSA Regional Points race. Austin Wright had his best finish of the year with second as he and Tyler Hughes fought it out for that spot. Coming for the checkered, Hughes tried to get around Wright, but the young man held on with Hughes close  behind. Brandon Sturgis took his machine to a fourthplace finish just ahead of Ty short.

270 Micro Sprints

Cameron Merriman is on a roll at Delmarva Motorsports Park this season, and he proved again he is the one to beat for the 2008 Championship. Last season's champion, Eric Heath took a week off last week, but returned this week to see if he could give young Merriman a run for his money. Heath started on the pole, and took the lead on the first lap. Going into turn one on lap two, Merriman chose the high side and passed Heath coming out of the corner. The two stayed close for the rest of the race, but Merriman had his car on a rail and took another win on the 1/4 mile clay. Heath was second with Charlie Cobourn having another great run in the third spot. Young Kellie Lewis took fourth and JT Knight rounded out the top five.

600 Micros

The old saying "you can't win the race on the first lap" didn't ring true for Luke Thomas on Friday night in the 600 Micro feature. Mike Baker started on the pole with "Racin" Randy Oswald and Thomas on the second row. Oswald drove into turn one hard on the start, contacting the side of Baker's car. Thomas looked high and had the lead coming out of turn two, with Oswald close behind. Baker got his car back under control after the contact and stayed in third, only to have problems later in the race, moving him to the infield. Thomas tried to put some distance between him and Oswald, who was looking for his third win in a row, but couldn't get away. After a couple of caution flags, Thomas stayed in the middle of the track, as Oswald worked the bottom, with Thomas winning out in the end for his first win of the season at DMP. Oswald was second just ahead of Shawn Ward, who worked his way to the back bumper of Oswald and challenged hard for the second spot in the twenty lap race. Ronnie Hayes recovered from two miserable weeks and had a great run taking fourth. Josh Rohlman stayed out of trouble and took fifth.

TUSA Mod Lites

The TUSA Mod Lites put on one of the best shows of the young season on Friday at DMP. 2008 Champion, Kevin McKinney and Brandon Dennis swapped the lead several times as they diced back and forth for the win. James McKinney stayed right with the top two for the entire race, anticipating a problem so he could jump to the front if given the opportunity. McKinney stayed on the bottom groove as Dennis tried the top groove. Both drivers had different areas on the track they were strongest and finally on the last lap Dennis found his spot and got along side McKinney as they came out of turn four. The two battled for the short distance to the finish line with McKinney winning by less than a car length over Dennis. James McKinney took third just in front of an impressive run by young Kyle Fuller in his beautiful #68 car. Kirk Miles continued his impressive start to the season with a fifth place run.

PRO Mod Lites

Pro Mod Lites saw a new winner this week, as Jimmy Wills showed the way for the entire race in his 22W car. Wills was glued to his groove as he moved away and was able to maintain his lead, even through some restarts. Former winner, Tyler Reed tried to get along side a couple of times on the starts, but did a great job as he hung on for second and the points lead in the division. Kyle Fuller continues to improve his finishes as he took third ahead of former winner James McKinney and Ashley Wilson in her debut in the Pro Mod Lites

April 4, 2008 DMP Mod Lites Results

Mod Lites took to the track after heavy rain the night before. Even with all the rain, the drivers pulled together and put on a great show for the packed grandstands. The Rookie Mod Lites were few, but the youngsters did a great job, racing each other for the entire fifteen laps. Dean Seemans tried to take another win, but eleven-year-old Adam Weber took the lead out of turn four and kept it for the rest of the race. Seemans worked the inside, and outside, looking for a way around Weber, but couldn’t find the line to take the lead. Trent Wiley had another great run, taking third in front of Josh Clark in fourth.

The Pro Mod Lites saw a new winner in victory lane with Tyler Reed doing a great job. Reed was running in second with Jimmy Wills leading. Reed looked to the inside out of four mid ways through the race, with the two drag racing down the front straight, and Reed taking the lead into turn one. Reed held on to the first spot with Wills doing a fantastic job, pressuring the leader, but settling for the second spot. Points leader James McKinney took third in his #17 car and Donnie Ackenbrack took his car to a fourth
place finish. Pole sitter Shawn Weber had her best finish of the season in  fifth.

The Jr. Mod Lites had one of the tightest races of the night, as Ty Short held off challenges from Dylan Evans for the entire race. Evans had to work his way from his sixth starting spot on the heavy track and was there at the end of the race in second. Amanda Whaley did a great job holding on to the third spot just ahead of fourth place finisher Clint Chalabala. Tyler Hughes held on for the fifth spot.

The TUSA Mod Lites saw a first time winner for the season with Curt Miles Jr. holding off the charge from Kevin McKinney. Miles Jr. held his line, driving in the center of the track as McKinney tired to get around almost every lap of the race. Kirk Miles ran in third waiting for the leaders to make a mistake, and held on after a late race challenge from Jimmy Wills, who took fourth. Brandon Dennis came from the back of the field and took fifth.

April 4, 2008 DMP Micro Results

The rain may have dampened the track, but the spirit of the racers was in the clear as DMP had its third race of the 2008 season. The 600 Micros saw former winner Matt Esham on the point as they came for the green flag. Raymond Hitchens in his #4 car won one of the heats and looked like he would be a strong contender, but circumstances kept him high on the track and he struggled as he raced with Jon Warfield early in the event. Esham moved away from the rest of the field a couple of times, and the absence of  cautions allowed him to weave keep all of the competitors behind him. Esham stayed in clean air and took the win easily. It wasn’t as easy behind him,  as Mike Baker and Jon Warfield had their hands full swapping spots several times during the fifteen-lap feature. Baker finally got the advantage for the last time when Jon went high in turn four, and almost connected with brother Jason in the turn. Jon raced hard and took third with Jason Warfield held on to the fourth spot just in front of strong runner Shane Lewis.

The 270 Micros saw Ken Lester on the point, with Eric Heath and Ryan Wozunk poised right behind him on the start. Lester led the first lap, but  Heathtook the inside going into turn one squirting under Lester for the lead. Heath, the 2007 DMP Micro Champion didn’t look back taking the win in a race with no cautions. Wozunk fought his way around two-time winner Cameron Merriman late in the race, taking the second spot away. Merriman took third with Lester coming home in the fourth spot. Rookie driver Kellie Lewis had  a great race taking the fifth spot.

Hayes survives at DMP for first win

Ronny Hayes got luck of the draw on Friday night, after finishing second in his heat. The invert put Hayes on the point for the twenty lap feature, giving him the clear view at the front. It took three attempts at the start, but the drivers finally settled in and got the event underway. Hayes had Luke Thomas on his bumper each start, and it looked as though Thomas would be able to challenge, but after the final single file take off, Hayes was able to hold him off. The two would battle for the entire race, as Thomas tried to find the line around him. Thomas had his own back to watch as Matt Esham showed his nose to the leaders several times, making it a three way race. Caution flags plagued the race, but when the checkered finally fell, Hayes was in front for his first win of the season. Thomas held off Esham for second with Brian Carber coming home in fourth. Joey Startt was the biggest mover of the night, starting on the back and finishing in the fifth spot.

The 270 Micro Sprints didn't have the same challenge for the top spot, but racing in the middle was just as hot. Cameron Merriman made a controversial move at the start, taking the lead and never looking back, taking his second win in two starts at DMP.Nick Walton won the heat race, and was closing on the flying Merriman toward the end of the race, but couldn't find the line to get to the leader. The race for third was heated as 2007 Champ Eric Heath and Ken Lester battled lap after lap, swapping the spot several times. Heath finally got the advantage and came home in third with Lester close behind. Young JT Knight did another great job bringing his X1 car home in the top five.

Young Mod Lite drivers show the way at DMP

The rookie Mod Lite division at Delmarva Motorsports Park show great promise as some of the drivers from Karts came up to show the way on Friday night. Young, Adam Weber got his #20 car hooked up early and held off a charging Dean Seamans for the win. Weber had to watch his line as Seamans tried the bottom, then went to the top trying to get around the 11 year old. Weber showed maturity beyond his years as he took his first win in a Mod Lite in only his second try. Seamans had to settle for second after putting the heat on the winner for the entire fifteen laps and Trent Wiley did a great job as he stayed in the third spot. Jonathan Lareigh took fourth.

The Jr. Mod Lites were just as exciting as Dylan Evans, "The Millsboro Missile", made a move out of turn four to take the lead away from James Hill, and held on for his first win of the young season. Evans had to hold off a charging Tyler Hughes, who worked his way to second at the start of the race, challenging Evans for the lead. Hughes tried to get around Evans at the same time he had to protect his spot from Bryce Ingram and Ty Short, who were battling to get to the front. Lap thirteen saw Ingram finally make the move around Hughes and get around only to loose it on the last lap, allowing Hughes to take second. Derek Magee kept his cool for the whole race, taking third on the last lap, with Short close behind in fourth. Clint Chalabala held on for the fifth spot.
The newest division of Mod Lites at the track, the Pro Mod Lites, saw a familiar face in Victory Lane this week. Last season's Jr Mod Lite Champ, Taylor McCracken got to take home another trophy as he held off last weeks winner, James McKinney for the win. McKinney got along side several times, but couldn't make the pass and settled for second. Jimmy Wills was another driver moving to the Pro Mod Lites this season, doing a great job in his 22W car, taking the third spot. Richie Wilson tried the outside line several times during the race and brought his #15 car home in fourth just ahead of Tyler Reed, who led early, but spun and worked his way back to fifth.

The TUSA Mod Lites saw one of the best races of the night as Brandon Dennis and Kevin McKinney put on a side by side show for the fans in the stands. Dennis had a huge lead at the halfway mark, but McKinney was able to close the gap and as late race caution sealed the fate for Dennis. On the last lap, Dennis went a little high into turn three, allowing McKinney to get his nose under the beautiful #10 car. The two were side by side into four, until Dennis spun coming out of the corner, giving McKinney the victory. Taylor McCracken had a great view of the whole thing and took second ahead of Kirk Miles in third and Jimmy Wills with Curt Miles Jr. close behind in fifth..

DMP Gets Season Underway

By Buck Buckholz

Delmarva Motorsports Park in Seaford, De started their points season last Saturday night. The weather loomed over the speedway until almost race time, causing all competitors to help get the track run in, but after all was said and done, the new surface provided some exciting racing for the packed stands.

Twenty-One 600 Micro Sprints showed for the first race of the season with Randy Oswald streaking to the first heat win of the year, showing he would be tough to beat in the feature. Eddie Wagner took his #70 car to the second heat win and 2007 600 Micro Champion Jason, Warfield took the third heat race.

After the invert pill draw for the feature, the field was started straight up, with Oswald poised on the front row. Oswald didn't take any time showing his heat win wasn't a fluke as he took the lead and never relinquished it for the entire race. Wagner tried several times through the race to find a lane around, trying the groove high and low, but Oswald took the win easily. Wagner took second with Warfield holding on to third after racing fourth place finisher Shane Lewis. Luke Thomas came from his 12th starting position to take the fifth spot.

The TUSA Mod Lites had a great field of cars with Steve White and James McKinney taking the heat wins. The win for McKinney was his first at the track on board his #17 Mod Lite. In the feature, White started on the pole and took the lead going into turn one. White stayed on the gas with his pedal to the medal driving style and took the win easily. Curt Miles Jr. drove a steady race, and brought his 21 jr car home in second after having to hold off Taylor McCracken who took third. Young Jimmy Wills did a great job in his first race with the TUSA Mod Lites taking fourth with Kirk Miles close behind in fifth.

The 270 Micro Sprints started the night on a bad note as young Greg Schoonover, last season's Most Improved driver, was reportedly killed at his home in Maryland earlier that day. DMP will hold a memorial race for the eleven year old on April 11th. Eric Heath took the heat win. Heath, the 2007 270 Micro Champion, saw few challenges in the heat, but at the start of the feature, saw young Cameron Merriman streaked to the outside in turn one and take the lead on the first lap. Merriman drove away from the rest of the field and took the win easily over Heath. Heath was all alone in second, but third was contested for the entire race as Ken Lester and Ryan Wozunk fought it out back and forth. Lester held on for the spot, with Wozunk in fourth and young driver JT Knight rounding out the top five.

A new division of Mod Lites took to the track, the stock 1000 cc class. Named the Pro Mod Lites, James McKinney showed the way in a display of desire for his first feature win on his career. McKinney felt the heat late in the race as Tyler Reed flew through the field and finally caught McKinney, but couldn't get by and had to settle for second. Richie Wilson did a great job in his car taking third ahead of Mike Stratton on board the 600 cc powered 946 car. Jimmy Wills took the fifth spot.
Rookie Mod Lites saw first timer Dean Seamans take the win. The youngsters aged 10-16 put on a great show with Adam Weber taking second. Jonathan Laureigh raced his way to third ahead of Trent Wiley in his great looking car. Josh Clark finished the night in the fifth spot.

Junior Mod Lites saw Ty Short take the lead early and do a great job handling his #8 car for his first win of the season. Short started on the second row, and took no time getting to the point.
