DUANE HOWARD GAMBLES FOR $7330 PAYDAY IN DELAWARE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Duane Howard of Oley, Pa. gambled twice in the
50-lap Delaware State Big Block Modified Championship on Sunday at the Delaware
International Speedway. His first gamble was to pay the $100 gambler’s fee that
would add $1000 to the $5500 first place money if he won. The second gamble was
taking to the slick high groove to try to make a pass of leader Wade Hendrickson
on lap 10. Howard capitalized on both gambles making the successful pass then
leading the rest of the distance collecting the lap leader bonuses and netting
$7330.
Craig VonDohren’s good fortune in winning Saturday’s Small Block Modified race
didn’t carry over to Sunday. VonDohren banged wheels with David VanHorn, Jr.
going down the back straight which resulted in a flat tire for both of the
drivers before the first lap was complete.
Wade Hendrickson led the first lap but the yellow was out again when Jeff Brown
slowed with mechanical woes. The field then settle into some quick laps with
Hendrickson out front while Howard and Richie Pratt, Jr. battle for second.
Pratt got inside of Howard but could not complete the pass. It was a wakeup call
for Howard who went to the outside going into the third turn and squeezed by
Hendrickson for the lead.
The third yellow was out on lap 11 as rookie Chad Clark, who was running in the
top 10 slowed with a flat tire. On the restart, Howard pulled away and had built
almost a four seconds lead when the fourth yellow flew on lap 19 when Kyle
Strickler slowed with a flat.
Howard was able to rebuild that advantage in just five laps but the yellow was
out for a fifth time when Gary Hager and Jimmy Horton IV tangled and slowed on
the back straight. The field restarted at the halfway sign with Howard out front
followed by Hendrickson, Pratt, Jr., Kenny Brightbill and H.J. Bunting who had
started in 11th.
Howard had almost a five seconds lead on lap 31 when Mike McAleer detonated a
right rear tire on the front straight. On the yellow Stickler’s car didn’t slow
as he went to enter the pits and the car ended up deep in the ditch.
The final 29 laps were all green and Howard, in the BPG Motorsports/Feil/Teo
steadily pulled away to take the checkered by a full straight over Hendrickson.
“I didn’t slow because you can’t tell how close they are to you,” smiled Howard.
“I like to keep a little cushion when I get out front if I can.” It was Howard’s
second Fall Championship win, his last coming in 2003.

JAMIE LATHROUM UPSETS DELAWARE LATE MODEL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, Md. had never
won a feature event at the Delaware International Speedway prior to Sunday.
Lathroum was confident of his chance of pulling the upset. So confident in fact
that he took $100 from his own pocket to pay the gambler’s fee that would net
him an additional $1000 if he won.
Lathroum was the quickest of the three heat winners which put him on the pole in
front of heat winners David Pettyjohn and Roy Deese, Jr. who had won the
championship in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Contact at the drop of the green saw four time Fall Champion, David Hill
catapulted into the outside wall bringing out the yellow. On the restart,
Richard Jarvis, Jr.’s car made a right hand turn and went head on into the wall.
Jarvis was not injured in the crash.
The third try got the first lap in the books with Lathroum setting the pace with
Pettyjohn second and Deese third. The yellow was out for a third time on lap
seven for a three car spin in turn three involving Ed Drury, Donald Lingo, Jr.
and Derrike Hill.
The front three remained the same through lap 12 when the yellow flew as Alan
Sagi rolled to a stop. Another five laps clicked off before Drury and Kyle
Merkel tangled for yellow number five.
David Pettyjohn’s challenge ended as he suddenly slowed coming off the second
turn on lap 21 but he was able to get clear and the green stayed out. Rookie
Barry Beauchamp got around on the following circuit for yellow number six.
At the halfway sign the top five were Lathroum, Deese, Simpson, Devin Freise and
Booper Bare. Four more single car incidents were spaced through the second half
of the race which worked in Lathroum’s favor by keeping him out of traffic.
Lathroum would maintain a comfortable lead to the finish for his biggest career
win in the 3 Mules Welding/Race Cars by Huey/Mastersbilt/Ford. With his
gambler’s bonus and by collecting all of the lap leader bonuses, Lathroum netted
$6025. Deese finished in the second spot with Simpson, making his first start of
the season, finishing in third. Fourth went to Freise and Bare rounded out the
top five.

WHITE, VENT, WILLS, BRITTINGHAM, SCHIRMER AND GRAY TAKE FALL CHAMPIONSHIP
SUPPORT DIVISION WINS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – A variety of support division helped comprise the
two-day Delaware State Dirt Track Championships. Divisions that were represented
included the AC Delco Modifieds, Crate Models, Mod Lites, Little Lincoln
Vintage, Vintage Stock Cars and the Slide for 5’s.
Michael White added the proverbial icing to the cake in winning Sunday’s 25 lap
AC Delco Modified feature. White had posted four wins in route to winning the
2008 point championship. Heats on Saturday were won by White, Tim Trimble, and
John Curtis. White’s quick time in the heat put him on the pole.
At the drop of the green White set the pace with Curtis second and Trimble
third. White’s only close call on lap eight when a lapped car got out of shape
in front of him. White made it by clean and Trimble went to work on Curtis,
taking second at the halfway sign. Herman Powell followed in fourth and Brad
Trice was fifth.
The first yellow of the race came out on lap 15 when Scott Baker got around. The
second and final yellow would fly on the next lap when Kelly Putz slowed. White
would never falter as he drove the J&M Roofing/Carey’s Towing/Teo to the win
worth $1545. Trimble finished in the second spot with Curtis third. Fourth went
to Powell and Trice rounded out the top five.
Eric Vent was the class of the field in the Crate Model 25-lap championship.
Vent was the quickest of the heat winners over Herb Tunis placing the pair first
and second in the starting lineup.
Vent led the first lap before the first yellow flew for Bunky White who spun in
the second turn. On the restart, Vent set the pace ahead of Herb Tunis and Mike
Wilson as the race stayed green until lap seven when Barry Beauchamp got around.
The order remained the same through lap 12 when the yellow flew again when Mark
Williams broke coming off the second turn. At the halfway sign the top five were
Vent, Tunis, Wilson, Clint Chalabala and Joe Warren.
The field would be slowed two more times in the final ten laps keeping Vent
within striking distance. Vent would make no mistakes as he drove to his first
Fall Championship win in the Clark’s Pools/Snookie’s Speed Parts/Lazer. Vent had
paid the gambler’s bonus and earned all of the lap leader money to earn $1885.
The Mod Lite 20-lap championship was a dream come true for fifteen years old
Jimmy Wills of Felton, Del. Wills and Kevin McKinney won the heats on Saturday
and Wills’ quicker time put him on the pole.
At the drop of the green Wills pulled away from the field and got quicker every
lap. Rick Wheatley got by Nick Hendricks for second on lap three. Wills had over
a four seconds lead at the halfway point and was followed by Wheatley,
Hendricks, Sparky White and Erik McKinney in the top five.
The first yellow didn’t fly until lap 15 when Tim White got around. The green
would come out for two more laps when James McKinney tangled with Connecticut’s
Ryan Charland bringing out the second and final yellow.
Wills controlled the final three laps taking his first win at the speedway and
his first Fall Championship in the Price Honda/Accura/American Legion/Pro. Wills
had paid the $50 gambler’s fee out of his personal savings which netted him an
additional $500 bringing his total for the win to $1350! Wheatley finished in
second with Hendricks, Sparky White and Erik McKinney rounding out the top five.
C.J. Schirmer recorded his third straight Vintage Stock Car championship but it
didn’t come easy. Mel Joseph, Jr. took the lead from pole sitter, Rick Loveland,
Jr. on the first lap of the 10-lap event.
The race went caution free with Schirmer making a lead pass on Joseph coming for
the white flag. Schirmer held off Joseph, Jr. on the final lap to take the win.
Loveland, Jr. finished in third with Chuck Tucker fourth and Sonny Ritter fifth.
First sportsman was James LaPlant.
In Saturday’s 10-lap Little Lincoln Championship, Bill Brittingham and Matt
Johnson raced side by side for the lead. Jamie Wagner blew a tire in a big pack
of cars collecting Steven Baker and Tony Daisey before the first lap was
complete. Wagner made the tire change a was back out at the rear. Matt Johnson
led the first lap before Bill Brittingham moved on top. The caution was out on
lap three when Emory West and Chris Loveland came to a stop. Under the yellow
Donald Robinson, Jr. lost a drive shaft while running in the top five.
On the restart, Johnson and Mel Joseph, Jr. got together with Joseph getting
around and collecting Duke Walsen. At the halfway sign the top five were
Brittingham, John Stevenson, Johnson, Mark Cashdan and Brian Brasure. The yellow
fever continued in the second half with Stevenson getting around while running
in second. Johnson was now in the second spot with the yellows keeping the field
in a bunch.
Cashdan spun giving up the third spot on lap 8 and on the restart Brian Brasure
got around bringing out the final yellow. Wagner had benefited from the yellows
and had worked back into third, coming from the rear after changing a tire.
Wagner got by Johnson with one lap to go but could not catch Brittingham who
collected his second Fall Championship win. Wagner finished a hard fought second
with Johnson third. Stevenson finished in the fourth spot and Baker rounded out
the top five.
The 2008 season concluded with the Slide for 5. The event was the most
competitive for the division this season with Mike Jefferson jumping out to the
early lead. Shane Phillips avoided the spinning leader to lead lap three.
Phillips got around and Randy Gray took the point for lap four. Gray, from
Frankford, Del., went on to his first career win in the Slide for 5 class. Tyler
White finished in the second spot with Dylan Betts third. Fourth went to Jordan
Herbert and Matt Carmean rounded out the top five.

CRAIG VONDOHREN WIRES DELAWARE SMALL BLOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – The past two weeks have been rough ones for Craig
VonDohren but Saturday’s 50-Lap Delaware State Small Block Championship race was
a cake walk in comparison. The Barto, Pa. chauffer started on the pole and drove
a picture perfect race for his first win in the Fall event since he won back to
back years in 1998 and 1999.
“Two weeks ago, I was in the hospital with pneumonia,” smiled VonDohren in
victory lane. “While I was taking it easy the guys back at the shop were getting
the car ready. You have to time good and start good to win here. The last few
years we haven’t been able to do that.”
But Saturday, VonDohren was back on track. He timed quickest in the hot laps
which put him on the pole in the third heat. VonDohren held off MeMe DeSantis in
the heat with Billy Pauch, Jr. finishing a close third.
In the main, the caution was out on the first lap when Mike McAleer caught one
of the inside tires and flipped. McAleer landed on his wheels and was able to
drive the car to the pits but was done for the day. The restart was critical
with VonDohren easily keeping the point. Gary Hager quickly tucked in behind the
leader with defending champion, Mike Iles in third.
VonDohren quickly settled into a rhythm but he almost grazed the front straight
wall on lap seven. The second yellow was the most serious of the event when Rich
Scagliotta had his throttle stick and he rocketed off the first turn hard into
the dirt retaining bank. The car was destroyed and Scagliotta was momentarily
stunned but was able to climb from the car under his own power for the ride back
to the pits.
At the halfway sign the top five were VonDohren, Hager, Iles, Keith Hoffman and
DeSantis. Billy Briggs rolled to a stop at the top of the second turn to bring
out the fifth caution of the event. The order remained unchanged on the restart
and VonDohren was able to slowly pull away..
His lead was erased for a final time on lap 37 when the sixth and final yellow
flew for Thomas Solderich who came to a stop. VonDohren had managed his tire
wear well and picked up the pace on the final restart. From that point on he
pulled away to collect the victory in the Mike Harvey owned Felty Farms No. 1C.
The team had paid the gamble fee so VonDohren picked up $3500 for the victory,
$1000 for the gambler’s bonus and $645 in lap money for a day total of $5145.
Gary Hager was saved once by a yellow when Iles had made a pass but had to go
back to third when the lap didn’t get in. Hager made no mistakes the rest of the
distance to finish in second with Iles third, Hoffman fourth and DeSantis fifth.
Heats were won by Iles, Ryan Godown, VonDohren and Hager with the two
consolations going to local racer Bobby Watkins and Rick Holsten. Forty-two cars
took part in the program.

JAMIE MILLS’ 7TH WIN NOTCHES DELAWARE BIG BLOCK TITLE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Mills of Milford, Del. had a solid point
lead coming into the 25-lap Big Block Modified Feature on R.C. Holloway Night,
Saturday at the Delaware International Speedway. Mills left no room for a
challenge as he dominated the event for his 7th win of the season and his second
career track championship. Michael White of Laurel, Del. finished fifth in the
AC Delco 15-lap main but was able to edge Joseph Tracy for his first point title
and Bandon Dennis of Greenwood, Del. took a hard flip down the front straight
wall in the 15-lap TUSA Mod Lite main but still came out on top if the standing
for his first championship. In the same event Tim White took the win and also
won the TUSA Regional championship.
The Big Block main was intense from the drop of the green. Norman
Short led the first lap before rookie Chad Clark shot to the point. Short
regrouped and went back on top for lap three and the yellow was out on lap four
as Ernie Lowe got around. Jeff Brown spun on the restart keeping the field
bunched.
Jamie Mills was taking no prisoners as he charged from his tenth starting spot
into third. By lap six, Mills was running in second and two laps later he shot
by Short for the lead. At the halfway sign the top five were Mills, Tim Millman,
Short, Robert Dutton and Clark.
H.J. Bunting entered the top five on lap 18 and on lap 21 took fourth just as
the final yellow flew when Drew Simmons blew an engine. On the restart Mills
quickly vaulted away in the lead. With one lap to go Bunting got by Short for
third. At the checkered, it was Mills, in the I.G. Burton/Bicknell taking his
seventh win. Millman ended a good season finishing in second and Bunting ended
the runner-up in points by finishing in third. Short ended a good run in fourth
and Matt Jester drove a smooth race to finish in fifth. Heats were won by Short
and Mills.
Adam Jarrell headed the 21 car starting field in the 15-lap AC Delco Modified
feature. The first and only caution fell on lap two when Bubba Sears spun. Back
to green Jarrell set the pace with Brad Trice in second and John Curtis third.
Michael White locked into a good battle for the fourth spot with Tim Trimble.
Trimble took fourth on lap five and at the halfway sign the top five were
Jarrell, Trice, Curtis, Trimble and White.
With the exception of a lapped car getting out of shape in front of Jarrell on
lap 11, it was all smooth sailing through the closing laps. Jarrell, in the
Taylor & Messick/Teo took his second win of the season. Trice ended a good year
in second with Jarrell’s teammate, Curtis third. Fourth went to Trimble and
White notched the championship with his fifth place finish.
Tim White established himself as the car to beat right from the start of the
TUSA 15-lap feature. A season high field of 20 cars was on hand for the TUSA
regional event. Brandon Dennis held second until Curt Miles, Jr. took up the
chase on lap four. Ty Short followed into the third spot and Kevin White,
driving his brother Tim’s car held down the top five.
Short worked into second with two laps to go just as Dennis’ night ended on a
scary note. Dennis’ car lost a right front wheel at the flagstand with Dennis
hitting and flipping down the wall. Dennis climbed from the badly damaged car
shaken but uninjured.
Miles, Jr. regained second on the restart but it was Tim White, in the CLC
Cabling/Lightning recording his fifth win of the year and claiming the TUSA
Region Championship. Miles, Jr. finished in second with Short third. Kevin White
did an outstanding job to finish in fourth and Erik McKinney rounded out the top
five.

RICHARD JARVIS, JR GETS 5TH DELAWARE WIN IN LATE MODEL THRILLER
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE - Richard Jarvis, Jr. was lightning fast all night
Saturday at the Delaware International Speedway. The Super Late Model 25-lap
main was a thriller with four different drivers leading the event.
The caution was out before lap one was complete when Bryan Driver got around in
turn one. Bob Geiger would lead the first lap before Hal Browning took the point
on lap two. Browning held the lead for three laps before defending point
champion, Donald Lingo, Jr. shot to the point. Richard Jarvis, Jr. followed into
second one lap later and became the fourth different lead on lap eight.
By the halfway point, Jon Callaway had climbed into the second spot from his
sixth starting position with point leader, Ray Davis, Jr. following into third.
Fourth was Lingo, Jr. and Ricky Elliott was on the climb in fifth.
Jarvis was comfortably out front with Callaway trying to close in second.
Elliott climbed into the third spot just as the yellow came out as Derrike Hill
took a wicked end over end flip off the third turn. Hill quickly climbed from
the car shaken but not injured.
Elliott went to work on Callaway for second on the restart and took the spot
with four to go. Ray Davis, Jr. entered the top five and with two to go appeared
to lose power coming off the fourth turn. What actually had happened was the
brake fluid was leaking on his gas petal and his foot slipped off. The caution
came out just as Davis got back on the gas and there was no penalty as he only
slowed and did not stop.
All eyes were on Jarvis and Elliott as the green came out but Jarvis was on his
game and pulled away to take his fifth win of the year in the King’s Country
Pride/Mid Coastal Siding/Rocket. Elliott finished in the second spot with Rick
Whaley making a late race charge to finish in third. Fourth went to Callaway and
Davis locked up the championship over Callaway finishing in fifth. Heats were
won by Whaley and Jarvis.
The 15-lap Crate Model feature was a crash filled affair with seven cautions in
fifteen laps. Kelly Putz chased leader Mike Wilson in through the halfway point
with Joe Warren running in third. Multi-car tangles eliminated a third of the 26
car starting field and the cautions kept the field tightly bunched.
Kelly Putz made his winning pass of Wilson with two laps to go. Joe Warren
followed into second with Mike Williams in third. Putz drove his Goodwrench/Brown’s
Service & Repair No. 59 to his third win with Warren finishing in second to earn
his second point crown. Williams had his best run of the year to finish in third
with Herb Tunis fourth and Justin Breeding fifth.

RICK WHALEY SURVIVES TO WIN THIRD OF SEASON IN SUPER LAT E MODELS
Rick Whaley came out on top in a real survival match in the 25-lap Super Late
Model feature. By the end of the race only half of the starting field was still
running.
At the drop of the green, pole sitter, Kevin Scott, Jr. got sideways and spun in
the front of the pack with Richard Jarvis, Jr. and Kerry King also involved. On
the restart, Rick Whaley and Hal Browning made contact with Browning coming to a
stop in turn two. The third try was the charm but for only a lap as Donald
Lingo, Jr. got by Staci Warrington for lap one. The yellow was out for a third
time as Browning’s front suspension broke going down the front straight.
The race would stay green for the next five circuits with Lingo, Jr. out front
and Ray Davis, Jr. working by Rick Whaley for second. Davis’ drive ended with a
broken drive shaft on lap 10 and David Hill coasted into the pits on the yellow.
Jon Callaway was now up to third and on the move. At the halfway sign the top
five were Lingo, Whaley, Callaway, Warrington and Dave Hertz.
On lap 14, Lingo got out of shape and Whaley shot by for the lead. Callaway
followed into second one lap later but the yellow was out as Scott came to a
stop and was done for the night. The carnage continued as Lingo spun off the top
of turn four to bring out the yellow on lap 19.
Derrik Hill was putting on the drive of his young career as he climbed to the
fourth spot with five to go. Hill lost the handle on the next lap in turn three
and the caution was out for the ninth and final time.
Callaway was keeping the pressure on the leader Whaley with Warrington running
in third. Richard Jarvis, Jr. returned to the top five after changing a tire
under one of the many yellow and Hertz held on to fifth.
On the final turn, Whaley got out of shape and Callaway made a bid on the bottom
groove but Whaley recovered and out-raced Callaway back to the checkered for his
third win of the season in the Whaley’s Concrete/Rocket. Callaway settled for a
close second with Jarvis getting third. Warrington finished in the fourth spot
and Hertz rounded out the top five Heats were won by Callaway and Browning.
The Crate Model 15-lap feature was controlled from the start by pole sitter
Justin Breeding. Tyler Reed and Chris Hitchens kept the pressure on from the
start. Cautions on laps three and four would keep the field tightly bunched and
at the halfway sign the top five were Breeding, Reed, Hitchens, Herb Tunis and
Joe Warren.
Reed went to the very top of the speedway and worked his way out front to lead
lap 13. Reed survived a restart with two laps to go, holding off Breeding for
the second win of his young career in the Reed Trucking/Quillen Signs No. 44.
Breeding finished a personal best in second with Tunis taking third from Warren
on the final lap. Barry Beauchamp rounded out the top five. Beauchamp also set
fast time in qualifying.
Tony Daisey led the first lap of the Little Lincoln 10-lap main. Mel Joseph, Jr.
took over the lead on lap two and quickly pulled away from the rest of the
field. Bill Brittingham was working his way through the pack from his second
starting spot, taking second at the halfway sign. Daisey held on to third with
John Stevenson and Jamie Wagner running in the top five.
It looked like Joseph, Jr. would have an easy run of it until Bryan Brasure got
around with two laps left togo to bring out the only yellow. This erased
Joseph’s lead and put Brittingham on his outside for the restart. Joseph kept
the lead on the green and drove to the win in the Mitchell’s Auto & Truck
Salvage ’57 Chevy. Brittingham finished in second with Wagner coming from the
rear to finish in third. Fourth went to Stevenson and Mark Cashdan rounded out
the top five.
Dylan Betts was his usual smooth and consistent self as he posted his third
straight win in the Slide for Five. Matt Carmean finished in second with Brian
Nailor third. Fourth went to Jordan Herbert and Earl Truitt rounded out the top
five in the 21 car field.

MATT JESTER DOMINATES FOR THIRD WIN IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Matt Jester brought his “A” game to Saturday
night’s Hertrich Pontiac/Buick/GMC Modified feature at the Delaware
International Speedway. Jester was by far the dominate car in the event that was
slowed only once in the 25-lap distance.
Robert Dutton led the first lap of the Big Block Modified main before Jester,
who started in fifth, took the point. H.J. Bunting raced his way past Chad Clark
for third on lap three and Jamie Mills followed into the top five.
Mills continued to climb through the field taking fourth from Clark and third
from Bunting on lap 12. His climb ended at the halfway sign as the car slowed
and pulled to the infield with mechanical problems while running in fifth behind
Jester, Dutton, Clark, and Bunting..
The one and only yellow was out on lap 14 when Dana Walker came to a stop in the
second turn erasing the almost six second lead that Jester had built. Back under
the green Jester went right back to pulling away with Dutton and Clark nose to
tail for second and third. Bunting lost out on a chance to gain on Mills in
points as he began to slow when his engine went sour and Norman Short moved into
fourth.
Jester opened up a comfortable margin of over three seconds and went on to his
third checkered of the season in the Clearview Farms/Smith Concrete/Teo. Dutton
turned in his best performance of the season in second as Clark did in third.
Fourth went to Short and Ricky Johnson came on in the closing laps to finish in
fifth. Heats were won by Dutton and Mills.
“I figured we were going to have another caution free race but it worked out,”
smiled Jester. “We were pretty much junk in the heat race but we did a little
work on in and everything came around for the feature.”
The 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature was an excellent battle. Adam Jarrell
worked past Herman Powell to lead the first lap. Michael White was on a charge
from seventh and dropped John Curtis to fourth on lap two. Two laps later White
got by Powell for second. Tim Trimble joined the chase taking third on lap six.
Casey Lynch came to a stop bringing out the only yellow of the event. Under the
yellow, the leader Jarrell headed to the pits with a flat rear tire. White was
the new leader at the halfway point and was followed by Trimble, Joseph Tracy,
Brad Trice and Powell. White and Powell put on a great battle for the lead with
Trimble leading lap 11. White moved back on top for lap 12 but it was Trimble
back out front for laps 13 and 14.
Trimble lost just a little momentum in the final turn and White ducked to the
inside and edged out the win. It was White’s fourth win of the season and padded
his point lead in the J&M Builders/Teo. Trimble finished in second by just .03
seconds. Tracy finished in third with Trice fourth and Powell fifth. Tracy set
fast time in qualifying.
The 15-lap Mod Lite feature turned out to be a very special event for 15 year
old Ty Short. The race got off to a shaky start as pole sitter, James McKinney
spun and Rick Wheatley went off the third turn. Short was the leader on the
restart but by the end of the first lap Brandon Dennis had rim-rode to the front
from his seventh starting spot.
Cautions kept the field tight through halfway with Dennis keeping the point and
Short chasing him in the bottom groove. Mike Stratton ran in the third spot with
Kirk Miles fourth and James McKinney coming back to fifth.
Dennis got out of shape on the very next lap and Short went into the lead. The
final yellow was out with two laps left to go when Cody Belote flipped on the
front straight. Short never abandoned the bottom line and held one for the final
two laps to take his first career win in the R&F Auto/Wood
Contracting/Lightning. Dennis finished in second with Curt Miles, Jr. third.
Fourth went to McKinney and Kirk Miles rounded out the top five. Fast time in
qualifying was set by Tim White.
This Saturday night will be the final point event of the season and will be
sponsored by R.C. Holloway Co. and will feature the URC Sprints. It will also be
“Bonus Night” paying $1750 to win for the Big Block Modifieds and $1250 to win

JAMIE MILLS PADS POINT LEAD WITH DELAWARE BIG BLOCK WIN
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Mills seems to be hitting his stride as he
posted his sixth win of the season Saturday night at the Delaware International
Speedway in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature. Mills started in the
ninth starting spot and took the lead from Jeff Brown just before the halfway
sign.
Brown started on the pole and was strong in the early laps. Howard O’Neal gave
chase in second with Tim Millman running in third. Mills, driving is own No. 30,
was hooked up in the high groove and was running in the top five by lap two. On
the next circuit he dropped Jordan Watson to fifth.
H.J. Bunting, who only trailed Mills by 39 points going into the night’s racing,
pulled to the infield with mechanical problems on lap seven placing him 14th in
the final results. Mills battled his way past both Millman and O’Neal to take
second on lap nine.
Brown gave Mills a good fight for the lead as the two ran wheel to wheel for
three laps before Mills took the top spot on lap 12. At the halfway sign Mills
was followed by Brown, O’Neal, Jordan Watson, and Millman in the top five.
Ricky Johnson entered the top five just as the first and only yellow flew on lap
18 for Brown as he slowed to a stop at the end of the back straight. Robert
Dutton was now running in fifth. O’Neal slipped high and Millman grabbed second
with Johnson following into third.
Mills opened a comfortable margin to the checkered in his I.G. Burton
Chevrolet/Bicknell as he collected his sixth checkered of the season. Millman
finished in the second spot with Dutton coming on strong in the closing laps to
finish in third. Fourth went to O’Neal and Chad Clark notched the fifth spot.
Heats were won by Bunting and Mills.
“We got this motor back on Thursday night and the guys behind me came down and
worked all night long,” said Mills. “We’ve got a lot of time in the car and this
thing was on a rail tonight.”
The AC Delco 15-lap feature was a caution filled affair starting with a tangle
between the second and third place cars of Tim Trimble and Brad Trice before the
first lap could be completed. Both restarted at the rear of the field but would
be heard from later in the race.
Herman Powell set the pace with Joseph Tracy running in second. By lap five
Trimble was back in the top five in fifth as Michael White got by Tracy for
second. Trimble took fourth from Jason Bishop on lap seven with Trice following
into fifth. At the halfway sign the top five were Powell, White, Tracy, Trimble
and Trice.
By five to go, Trimble was third. White took the lead from Powell on lap 12 and
one lap later, Trimble followed into second. The yellow was out with one lap to
go for Casey Lynch who came to a stop in turn three. On the restart a lapped car
came to a stop setting up yet another try to get the final lap in the books. On
the third restart, White went high in the second turn and tagged the outside
wall. He then slid across the track in front of the pack collecting Scott
Calhoun and the yellow was out for a third time on the last lap.
Trimble now found himself out front and he held off Powell on the final lap to
take his fourth win in the Courtland Manor/Covey’s Car Care/Troyer. Powell ended
a good drive in second with Trice salvaging a fine third. Fourth went to Tracy
and Westley Smith rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by
Trimble.
Cody Belote led the first two laps of the Mod Lite 10-lap feature before Brandon
Dennis took the point. Running the high groove, Dennis maintained a comfortable
margin over Curt Miles, Jr. in second with Belote holding on to third.
Tim White climbed to the fourth spot but Dennis was smooth and error free in the
high line as he drove to his fourth win of the season in the Simpson
Construction/Pro. Miles, Jr. finished in the second spot with White third.
Fourth went to Alan Passwaters and Rick Wheatley came back from an early spin to
finish in fifth. Fast time in qualifying was set by Chad Passwaters.

HILL LOSES POWER ON FINAL TURN – ELLIOTT GETS THIRD STRAIGHT WIN IN DELAWARE
LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – David Hill appeared to be headed to his first win
of the season in Saturday night’s 20-lap Super Late Model feature but, as the
old saying goes, “It’s not over until it’s over,” he found himself in second as
Ricky Elliott recorded his third straight win.
Hill started on the pole when Kevin Scott, Jr., who flipped in the heat,
couldn’t make the call. Hill looked strong in the high groove with Rick Whaley
running close behind in second. Jon Callaway was on the move taking third on lap
three and Ricky Elliott, who started in 12th, entered the top five.
The battle in the top five was an intense one with Ray Davis, Jr. grabbing third
on lap six with Elliott taking fourth and Staci Warrington cracking the top
five. At the crossed flags Hill was out front holding off Callaway as Elliott
worked by Davis for third.
Elliott made several challenges on Hill pulling even in the bottom groove but
Hill was able to hold him off every time. The yellow was out for a final time
with five to go when Dave Hertz came to a stop.
Again Hill was able to stay on top and actually opened about a three car length
advantage with two to go. Elliott once again closed going into the final turn.
Just as it appeared that Hill would be able to hold off Elliott for the win his
engine sputtered in the final turn. Elliott shot to the bottom and took the win
by .11 seconds in his Charles Jarvis/Rocket.
Hill carried enough momentum to barely hold off Davis for second with Callaway
fourth and Warrington fifth. Heats were won by Whaley and Callaway.
“Last week I was in the wrong place, this week I was in the right place,” said
Elliott. “No, I hated that for David. David is a good customer of mine and his
dad and mom are good friends of mine.”
The 15-lap Crate Model feature was a caution filled affair with eight yellows.
Mike Wharton led the first two laps before Barry Beauchamp moved on top. Tyler
Reed climbed to third but then brought out the yellow on lap four. Joe Warren
jumped into second on the restart.
At the halfway sign the top five were Beauchamp, Warren, Wharton, Kelly Putz,
and Mike Williams. Yellows would keep the field tightly bunched. Beauchamp
slipped high on lap 11 and Warren moved by to take the lead.
Warren survived two more yellows on laps 13 and 14 to take his fourth win of the
year in the King’s Crop Insurance/Lazer. Beauchamp finished in the second spot
with Putz third. Eric Vent made a late race charge to finish in fourth and
Williams rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by Beauchamp.
Duke Walsen led the first three laps of the 10-lap Little Lincoln Vintage
feature. Mel Joseph, Jr. held second until lap three when Jamie Wagner shot into
the spot. Wagner took the lead on the next lap and would never look back.
Walsen held second until the final lap when Bill Brittingham used the outside to
take second. Wagner easily took the win in the ’53 Chevy with Brittingham second
and Walsen third. Fourth went to Joseph and Mark Cashdan rounded out the top
five.
Dylan Betts led every laps to collect his third straight win in the Slide for 5.
Matt Carmean avoided a traffic jam on the final lap to finish in second with
Greg Nailor, Jr. third. Fourth went to Randy Gray and Shane Phillips rounded out
the top five.

NO JOKE, JESTER WINS IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Matt “the Joker” Jester took the lead just before
the halfway sign and took advantage of the caution free 25-lap NAPA Big Block
Modified feature to record his second win of the season at the Delaware
International Speedway. Adam Jarrell led wire to wire and ended a ten year
drought to post his first career victory in the 15-lap AC Delco Modified main.
H.J. Bunting and Joseph Watson collected the heat wins in the Big Block
Modifieds. Rookie Chad Clark was in perfect form as he set the pace from the
drop of the green in the feature.
Howard O’Neal held the second spot until lap six when Jester, who had started in
fifth, moved by to take up the chase. Jester had caught Clark by lap ten but
Clark was not willing to give up without a fight. On lap 11, Jester used the low
groove in turn one to pull even then take the lead going down the back straight.
With Jester in front and Clark solidly in second a battle shaped up for third
between O’Neal, Jordan Watson, Joseph Watson and H.J. Bunting. Jordan climbed to
fourth by lap 15 with Bunting following into fifth.
The final laps would go quickly with the race staying green. Jester had a
comfortable lead in the top groove with O’Neal for third and Bunting staying in
tow to take fourth. Robert Dutton got by Watson with three to go to hold down
fifth.
Jester, in the Clearview Farms/Teo stopped the clocks at 8:35.185 for his second
win of the season. Clark made no mistakes to finish in the second spot with
O’Neal third. Fourth went to Bunting and Dutton rounded out the top five.
“I was definite glad to see it go caution free,” said Jester. “We kind of hit on
something for the feature. We’ve been tearing up quite a bit of stuff here
lately so hopefully the money will help us out.”
The 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature may not have been caution free but it was
perfect in the eyes of drive Adam Jarrell. Jarrell started on the pole with
teammate, John Curtis in second.
Tim Trimble took advantage of a lap three restart to get by Curtis for second.
Joseph Tracy climbed to the third spot but not for long as Michael White dropped
him to fourth just before halfway and Westley Smith was turning in his personal
best running in fifth.
Curtis’s drive ended on the final lap as he made a bid to regain fourth from
Smith and spun in the second turn. Jarrell didn’t let his opportunity for his
first career win escape him as he held off Trimble on the final lap to take the
win in the Taylor & Messick/Bicknell. Trimble finished in second with point
leader, White in third. Fourth went to Smith for a person best and Tracy, who
set fast time in qualifying, rounded out the top five.
Tim White made it three in a row in the 10-lap Mod Lite feature. Cody Belote and
pole sitter, James McKinney tangled before the first lap was in the books. Alan
Passwaters inherited the lead and held the top spot until lap four when Tim
White moved on top.
The race was caution free after the first lap tangle and White was able to build
up enough of a lead to keep the hard charging Ricky Wheatley at bay to win in
the CLC Cabling/Lightning. Wheatley finished in second with Curt Miles, Jr.
third. Fourth went to Brandon Dennis with Passwaters rounding out the top five.
Fast time in qualifying was set by White.
The 10-lap Vintage Stock Car feature went right down to the wire. C.J. Schirmer
took the lead from Mel Joseph, Jr. on the first lap but could never shake him.
Coming to the checkered in lapped traffic, Joseph, Jr. went low and Schirmer
went high around a lapped car with Joseph’s Ritter Farms coupe getting the
victory by about a foot. Schirmer finished in second with Morris Tucker, Rick
Loveland, Jr. and Dave Schamp rounding out the top five. First sportsman was
John Irwin.
This Saturday night the Little Lincoln Cars join the five weekly divisions. It

ELLIOTT’S BACK FOR BACK TO BACK WINS IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Ricky “the Rocket” Elliott was back at Delaware
International for the second week in a row on Saturday night and posted his
second consecutive win in the 20-lap Super Late Model main. It was far from a
cakewalk for Elliott as he narrowly avoided a couple of tangles to take the lead
at the white flag.
Rick Whaley took the green and immediately moved to the high groove with Staci
Warrington chasing in second. Warrington got out of shape on lap two and dropped
to fifth as the caution came out for Bryan Driver and Kerry King in the second
turn.
Defending point champion, Donald Lingo, Jr. was now running in second with Ross
Robinson holding down third. Elliott had been struggling through the field from
his eighth starting spot and was up to fourth before David Hill and Jon Callaway
momentarily dropped him out of the top five.
Elliott fought back and was running third behind Whaley and Lingo by the halfway
sign. With five to go, Lingo lost power and Elliott had to dive to the infield
to avoid the tangle. The caution was out but both Callaway and Ray Davis, Jr.
had gotten by Elliott for second and third.
Callaway challenged Whaley for the lead on the restart but quickly found himself
being challenged as Elliott made a charge with time running out. Elliott took
second with three to go and then edged by Whaley to take the lead at the white
flag. Elliott, in the Seaside Builders/Rocket took his fifth win of the season
with Whaley second. In a photo finish for third, Callaway barely edged Davis,
Jr. and Hal Browning closed strong to finish in fifth. Heats were won by
Warrington and Lingo, Jr.
“I seemed to be in the wrong place at the right time all night long until right
at the end,” laughed Elliott.
Eric Vent was glad that he started on the pole in the in the 15-lap Crate Model
feature. By the end of lap one, 13 of the 22 started had been involved in two
separate pileups. When things finally settled down, Kelly Putz would chase Vent
the rest of the distance.
Barry Beauchamp made it a good battle as he kept the pressure on Putz. Vent
crossed the line first for his third win in the Clark ’s Pool/Lazer. Putz
finished in second with Beauchamp third. Chris Hitchens put on a good run to
finish in the fourth spot and Joe Warren survived being in one of the crashes to
finish in fifth. Fast time was set by Vent in qualifying.

JAMIE MILLS REMAINS STRONG IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Since moving from his own car to the NAPA Big
Block Modified of Keith Coulbourne in 2008, Jamie Mills has been solid – very
solid at Delaware International Speedway. On Saturday night, Mills grabbed the
lead from Tim Millman with four laps to go and extended his point lead in the
division with his fifth win of the season.
Jeff Brown started on the pole and was strong in the early stages of the race.
Millman ran in the second spot with Howard O’Neal in third. Hard contact between
Robert Dutton and Matt Jester on lap five brought out the yellow and ended the
night for both.
Jamie Mills was on the climb and up to fourth from his ninth starting spot by
lap seven. Millman moved by Brown for the lead just as the yellow flew as Judd
Mills flipped end over end down the front straight. Mills quickly exited the car
to the relief of the crowd.
On the restart, Jamie Mills got by Brown for second. At the halfway sign the top
five were Millman, Mills, Brown, H.J. Bunting and O’Neal. The high groove was
the fast way around but Mills was able to get a good run off the bottom of the
second turn with five to go. Mills slid up and slammed the door on Millman going
into the third turn. Millman gave him a shot in the back bumper but that was as
close as he would get the rest of the distance.
Mills, in the Coulbourne Farms/Bicknell, pulled away to the comfortable win.
Millman finished in the second spot with Brown turning in a personal best in
third. Bunting stayed in the point chase with a fourth place finish and Jordan
Watson rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Jamie Mills and Bunting.
Tim Trimble took advantage of his outside second row starting spot shoot past
John Curtis and pole sitter, Adam Jarrell to lead at the start of the 15-lap AC
Delco Modified feature.
With Trimble in control a great battle between Brad Trice, Joseph Tracy, Jarrell
and Curtis raged in the top five. Tracy and Trice swapped the second spot
several times with Tracy actually getting by Trimble and leading by a bumper
with two laps to go.
Trimble, in the Courtland Manor/Covey’s Car Care/Troyer moved back on top on the
back straight and proceeded to drive to his third victory of the season. Tracy
held off Trice to finish in second. Curtis finished in the fourth spot and
Michael White rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by
Tracy.
Cody Belote led the first two laps of the Mod Lite 10-lap feature before the
yellow was out for Shawn Weber who went hard off the first turn. On the restart,
Tim White grabbed the top spot and would lead the rest of the distance.
Curt Miles, Jr. held second until Kevin McKinney took the spot with three laps
to go. Brandon Dennis made a hard charge on the outside from eighth but ran out
of time. At the checkered, it was White posting his second consecutive win and
his third overall in the Floyd Carey/CLC Cabling/Lightning. McKinney finished in
the second spot with Dennis third. Rick Wheatley finished in the fourth spot and
Miles, Jr. rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by
Wheatley.

weekly divisions this Saturday night. It will also be Milford, Del. Fan

RICKY “THE ROCKET” ELLIOTT LIVES UP TO HIS NICKNAME IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Ricky Elliott may spend most of his time on the
road racing up and down the East Coast in the Super Late Model division but he
still enjoys racing at his home track at Delaware International on Saturday
nights. After about a month’s absence, Elliott returned “home” on Saturday night
and walked away the $1250 25-lap Super Late Model feature.
Rookie Staci Warrington continues to impress as she took control of the feature
at the drop of the green. Defending point champion, Donald Lingo, Jr. was
running hard in the second spot with Elliott catapulting from eight to third on
lap one. A hard tangle between Rick Whaley and Norman Short brought out the
yellow on lap five with both cars taken to the pits on the wrecker.
The restart produced a three car battle for the lead between Warrington, Lingo,
Jr. and Elliott. Elliott took second on lap seven and one lap later powered by
Warrington off turn two for the lead.
Jon Callaway was on the move coming from his 11th starting spot to take third
just before the halfway sign. Callaway grabbed second from Warrington at the
crossed flags with Lingo, Jr. holding on to fourth and Kerry King running in the
fifth spot.
King’s drive ended with a flat tire on lap 22 and erased a big lead that Elliott
had developed. On the restart, Elliott bolted away from the rest of the field
and drove to his fourth win in the Charles Jarvis/Seaside Builders/Rocket.
Rookie Jon Callaway stayed in the point chase with a strong second and
Warrington turned in another stellar performance in third. Lingo, Jr. finished
in fourth. Point leader, Ray Davis, Jr. crossed the finish in fifth but had a
tire fail post race inspection and was disqualified. Fifth was credited to
Richard Jarvis, Jr. Heats were won by Warrington and Elliott.
Kelly Putz edged ahead of Mike Wharton to lead the first lap of the 15-lap Crate
Model feature. Defending point champion, Jack Mullins, Jr. returned to action
after a two month absence and took second while point leader, Herb Tunis battled
from third.
At the halfway sign the top five were Putz, Mullins, Tunis, Joe Warren and Chris
Hitchens. The race would stay green and the order would not change the rest of
the distance. It was the second win of the year for Putz in the Brown’s Service
& Repair No. 59.
Twenty-three cars took the green for the Slide for 5 finale. Dylan Betts built
up a strong head of steam on the first lap and drove to his second consecutive
win. Wayne White, Jr. came from the back row to finish in second with Tyler
White third, Shane Phillips fourth and Greg Nailor, Jr. fifth.

JOSEPH WATSON GETS FIRST CAREER
WIN IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Three weeks ago at the Delaware International
Speedway 17 year old rookie, Joseph Watson, almost pulled off the upset in the
NAPA Big Block Modifieds until a late race caution erased his lead and allowed
his uncle, Jamie Mills, to take the lead with five laps to go. On Saturday
night, Watson was not to be denied as he held off the challenges of defending
point champion, H.J. Bunting to record his first career win in the Bonus Night
25-lap feature. Brad Trice held off the two car challenge of Herman Powell and
John Curtis to win the exciting 15-lap AC Delco Modified win and Tim White
started on the pole but had to contend with Rick Wheatley before winning the
15-lap Modified Lite feature.
Joseph Watson has been very quick on the learning curve in his rookie season and
has been consistently turning in stronger and stronger performances. On Saturday
night, Watson captured his qualifying heat then started on the pole in the
feature. He immediately took control at the drop of the green as Jeff Brown and
Ricky Johnson battled for second.
The yellow was out on lap four when George Richardson came to a stop. Under the
yellow Tim Millman headed into the pits. H.J. Bunting was on the move from his
seventh starting spot taking fourth on lap six and third from Brown on lap
later.
The race stayed green with Watson comfortably in command. At the halfway sign
Bunting had climbed past Johnson for second with Johnson, Brown, and Robert
Dutton holding down the top five.
It looked as if Joseph might once again get bitten by the yellow as his brother,
Jordan Watson (who had captured the second qualifying heat), came to a stop with
just five laps left to go.
On the restart, Bunting cranked up the pressure taking the lead by a nose in the
third turn. Joseph raced back to the front by the start/finish line and would
hold on for the rest of the distance in his Cortland Manor/Bicknell to take the
win by one second over Bunting. Johnson finished in the third spot with Matt
Jester coming on strong late to finish in fourth and Howard O’Neal rounded out
the top five. The Bonus Night win was worth $1750 for Watson.
The 15-lap AC Delco Modified Feature was a thriller. Herman Powell led the first
lap before Brad Trice moved on top. A three car tangle brought out the yellow on
lap two. On the restart, Tim Trimble moved by Joseph Tracy for fourth while John
Curtis held down the third spot.
Scott Baker came to a stop on lap five bringing out the yellow for the second
and final time. Curtis grabbed second from Powell on the restart and at the
halfway point the top five were Trice, Curtis, Powell, Trimble and Tracy.
The order would not change the rest of the distance but coming to the checkered,
Curtis and Powell made one final challenge. Curtis went to the inside of Trice
with Powell going to the outside and the trio crossed the finish line separated
by less than two tenths of a second. Trice, in the Mitchell’s Auto & Truck
Salvage/Bicknell took his third win of the season with Powell second and Curtis
third. Trimble finished in the fourth spot with Tracy fifth.
Tim White started on the pole and took the early lead in the 15-lap Mod Lite
feature. Rick Wheatley challenged from the second spot taking the lead just
before halfway. Two laps later, Wheatley got around and White found himself back
on the point.
Curt Miles, Jr. was now running in the second spot with Brandon Dennis charging
by Eric McKinney for third. White would make no mistakes as he brought the Floyd
Carey/CLC Cabling/Lightning home for the win by less than an second over Miles,
Jr. Dennis took the third spot with Jimmy Wills getting by McKinney with two
laps to go to finish in third. James McKinney also got by Eric McKinney on the
final lap to finish in fourth.
This Saturday night will be another “Bonus Night” at Delaware International. It
will also be Laurel, Del. Fan Night with any resident of Laurel with a picture
I.D. admitted free to the spectator side. The NAPA Big Block Modifieds will run
25 laps for $1750 to win plus an extra $50 in positions 2nd thru 6th. The Super

RICK WHALEY SURVIVES CAUTIONS TO WIN IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Rick Whaley gave testimony to the fact that the
best place to always be is out front. Whaley survived nine caution flags to take
the $1250 to win 25-lap Super Late Model feature Saturday night at Delaware
International. Joe Warren was back in victory lane in the 15-lap Crate Model
main and Donald Robinson, Jr. got his first win of the year in the 10-lap Little
Lincoln feature.
Bob Geiger led the first lap of the Super Late Model main before getting out of
shape. Geiger was able to keep moving but both Staci Warrington and Ed Drury
were left sitting. Whaley, who started in the second spot, was now on the point
and in control.
Cautions on laps five, seven, eight and ten kept the field tightly bunched with
Jon Callaway chasing Whaley from second until both Ray Davis, Jr. and Richard
Jarvis, Jr. moved by for second and third. At the halfway sign the top five were
Whaley, Jarvis, Davis, Callaway and Mark Byram. Callaway’s drive ended at this
point as he rolled to a stop with a flat tire.
David Pettyjohn was now running in the top five but it was Hal Browning taking
fourth on a lap 15 restart. Jarvis kept the pressure on Whaley with Byram
getting back by Browning for fourth. The final yellow came out for Bryan Driver
on lap 22. Davis edged into second on the restart but Jarvis regained the spot
one lap latter but it was too late to catch Whaley.
Whaley, in the Richard Whaley Concrete No. 18, held on for his second win of the
season by four tenths of a second over Jarvis. Davis finished a close third with
Byram fourth and Browning fifth. Heats were won by Whaley and Browning.
Justin Breeding led the first five laps of the 15-lap Crate Model feature before
Joe Warren, who had started in fifth, moved on top. Just as Warren took the lead
the yellow was out for Skip Syester who hit the inside wall on the back
straight.
At the halfway sign the top five were Warren, Tyler Reed, Breeding, Barry
Beauchamp and Herb Tunis. Beauchamp was on the move taking third with two to go
just as the yellow flew for the final time.
On the restart, Beauchamp battled his way by Reed for second with one to go but
Warren was gone as he drove to his third win in the Big Fish Grill/Lazer.
Beauchamp finished in the second spot with Reed third. Fourth went to Tunis with
Justin Breeding rounding out the top five.
The Little Lincoln feature got off to a wild start with a front straight tangle
that involved Jeff Wheatley, Albert Mitchell, Matt Johnson, Duke Walsen and
Richard Zach. When the race resumed, Donald Robinson, Jr. was out front with Mel
Joseph, Jr. taking second.
Joseph challenged Robinson the rest of the distance but the former champion made
no mistakes as he drove to his first checkered of the season. Joseph finished in
the second spot with Brittingham, Jamie Wagner and Mark Cashdan rounding out the
top five.

RICK WHALEY FINALLY GETS WIN IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Rick Whaley has been struggling all year in the
Super Late Model division at the Delaware International Speedway. Whaley has
gone as far as even changing his car number to try to change his luck and on
Saturday night his luck finally changed as he took the lead on lap three then
held off the challenges of Donald Lingo, Jr. for the entire second half of the
20 lap feature to take his first win of 2008. It was also a big night for Crate
Model driver Barry Beauchamp as he drove the race of his racing career to post
his first ever win.
The green was only out for a moment as Richard Jarvis, Jr. slammed the wall hard
coming off the second turn. The car was heavily damaged but Jarvis was not
injured. On the restart Kevin Scott held the lead with Rick Whaley in second.
Whaley took the top spot on lap three with Donald Lingo, Jr. following into
second. Jon Callaway took third on lap five. The yellow was out on lap six for
Kerry King. On the restart a hard crash involved the cars of Al Chaney, Rob
Massey, Staci Warrington, Bryan Driver and Dave Hertz. Only driver was able to
continue.
Callaway started to fade and Ray Davis Jr. was on the move. At the halfway sign
the top five were Whaley, Lingo, Jr., Davis, Jr., David Hill and David
Pettyjohn. In the second half the race settled into a three car battle between
Whaley, Lingo and Davis. Whaley continued to run hard on the bottom and was able
to post his first win in the Richard Whaley Concrete/Lazer.
“I seen him (Lingo) a couple of times on the bottom and I really wanted to move
up to the middle because the bottom was going away,” said Whaley. “I said man
I’m going to run the bottom and that’s where we ended up.”
Lingo finished in the second spot holding off Davis who finished in third.
Fourth went to David Pettyjohn and Hill rounded out the top five. Heats were won
by Hill and Scott, Jr.
Barry Beauchamp has been turning in some good performances in the Crate Models
but on Saturday night he turned in the best one of his career. Beauchamp started
on the pole with two time winner, Mike Wilson in second. Wilson held the second
spot until lap five when last week’s winner, Eric Vent claimed the spot.
At the halfway sign Beauchamp held a 1.5 seconds advantage over Vent with Joe
Warren, Wilson and Herb Tunis running in the top five. Warren put on a strong
drive in the closing laps taking second from Vent and challenging Beauchamp with
two laps to go. Beauchamp, in the Quality Mechanical Incorporated/Lazer remained
flawless to take his first checkered. Warren finished in the second spot with
Vent third. Fourth went to Wilson and Tunis rounded out the top five. Beauchamp
was the only car in the top five that was not a multiple feature winner this
season.

JAMIE MILLS PADS POINTS LEAD WITH 4TH WIN IN DELAWARE
MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, Del. – Jamie Mills had to take advantage of a late
race caution to catch his nephew, rookie Joseph Watson and then drive to his
fourth win of the season in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature Saturday
night at the Delaware International Speedway. It was a very competitive night
that produced two first career wins and one first season win.
Joseph Watson took full advantage of his first time starting on the pole in the
NAPA Big Blocks. It took three attempts to get the first lap in when Howard
O’Neal and Tim Millman had problems in separate incidents. When the race did get
a lap in, it was Watson pulling away on the point. Jeff Brown separated Joseph
from his brother, Jordan who was running in third. H.J. Bunting made a quick
charge from ninth to fourth and Matt Jester held fifth.
Bunting started his move through the top five with Jamie Mills following him.
Bunting took second on lap nine but was still a straight away distance behind
Joseph Watson at halfway. Mills held down third with Jester in fourth and Robert
Dutton, who had started in 13th running in fifth.
The caution that Watson didn’t want to see came out on lap 15 when Chad Clark
came to a stop erasing his 4.3 seconds lead. Under the yellow Bunting pulled to
the infield with mechanical problems moving Mills to the back bumper of his
nephew.
Mills immediately mounted a challenge taking the lead on lap 17. Jester was
still in the hunt and followed into second. Bishop was closing on Mills but he
slid high when he missed his line in the turn on lap 23 and went high
eliminating his chance for a last lap challenge. Mills, in the Coulbourne
Farms/Bicknell drove to his fourth win.
“I tell you what he would have been tough!” said Mills in reference to catching
Joseph if there hadn’t been a caution. “I kind of slid him there twice and I
figured well he’s my nephew. He won’t get mad with me if a slide up in front of
him. It would have been interesting if we didn’t have the caution.”
Jester finished in a well earned second with Joseph Watson turning in a great
performance in third. Fourth went to Dutton and Jordan Watson rounded out the
top five. Heats were won by Jordan and Bunting.
John Curtis proved once again that he is tough to beat from the pole in the
makeup AC Delco 15 lap feature. Tim Trimble chased Curtis the whole distance and
had one final shot when the yellow came out with one lap to go when last week’s
winner, Herman Powell spun.
On the restart Curtis was smooth but he slid high in the final turn giving
Trimble one final chance. Curtis was able to recover and drove to his fourth
checkered of the season in the Taylor & Messick/Teo. Trimble finished in second
with Brad Trice third. Fourth went to Michael White and Joseph Tracy rounded out
the top five.
In the regular 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature, Brad Trice started on the point
with Joseph Tracy giving chase in second. Adam Jarrell was dialed in and used
the outside groove to move from fifth to second by lap three.
As Trice set the pace, Jarrell and Tracy swapped the second spot until lap 13
when Jarrell secured it. Trice was never seriously challenged as he posted his
second win in the Mitchell’s Auto & Truck Salvage/Bicknell. Tracy finished in
the third spot with Michael White fourth and Trimble fifth. Fast time in
qualifying was set by Trimble.
Alan Passwaters may only be a second year driver but he drove like a seasoned
pro in the 10-lap Mod Lite feature. Passwaters held off Cody Belote in the early
laps before Tim White came charging from seventh to second. At the halfway sign
the top five were Passwaters, White, Kevin McKinney, Ty Short and Belote.
The one and only caution in the event came on lap six when Kyle Fuller came to a
stop. On the restart, White turned up the pressure on Passwaters and McKinney
made it a three car battle for the lead. White locked bumpers with Passwaters
coming off the final turn but Passwaters managed to drag the pair to his first
career win in the Dick’s Auto Body/Hornet. McKinney made a move to the outside
and actually edged White for second as the trio crossed the finish line under a
blanket. Rick Wheatley finished in the fourth spot and Short rounded out the top
five. White set fast time in qualifying.
Morris Tucker took the lead from Rick Loveland, Jr. on the second lap of the
Vintage Stock Car 10-lap main and drove to his third win of the year. Mel
Joseph, Jr. finished in the second spot with C.J. Schirmer third. Fourth went to
Dave Schamp and Fred Krickbaum rounded out the top five. John Irwin and James
LaPlant were division winners.
This Saturday night will be Lankford Sysco Night and will include the United
Racing Company Sprints along with the five weekly divisions. Gates open at 4:30
p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. As a special, this Saturday night is Georgetown

BUNTING REMAINS RED HOT WITH ELK MOONEYHAM MEMORIAL WIN
H.J. Bunting was hotter than the 90 degree temperatures on Saturday night as he
came from the rear of the field after a mid-race tangle to take the lead from
Jamie Mills with one lap to go, posting his third consecutive win and picking up
the $1000 bonus in the 30-lap Elk Mooneyham Memorial at the Delaware
International Speedway.
Heat racers for the 19 NAPA Big Block Modifieds were won by Chad Clark and Jamie
Mills. Jeff Brown looked strong from his pole stating position maintaining the
early lead. A heated battle for second was being waged by Clark, Scott Van
Gorder and Jordan Watson. VanGorder took second on lap three but three laps
later it was Watson moving into the spot.
Jamie Mills was on the charge from his tenth starting spot taking third from Van
Gorder on lap nine. The cautions was out two laps later when Matt Jester and
Bunting tangled in the third turn with both cars restarting at the rear. Mills
got by Watson for second and at the halfway sign drove past Brown on the outside
for the lead as Judd Mills moved into the top five.
Van Gorder’s drive ended with smoke and fire under the hood on lap 22 and Brown
spun to bring out the yellow. Bunting was back up to sixth at this point and got
by both Clark and Judd Mills coming off the second turn on the restart to take
third. Two laps later, Bunting got by Watson for second and went to the high
side catching Jamie Mills with one to go. Going into the first turn Mills edged
back by Bunting but the pass was for naught as the yellow came out for the final
time for Brown.
The set up a one lap shoot-out and Bunting cranked it up one final time to bring
home the J&M Builders/Simpson Construction/Teo for the checkered. Jamie Mills
finished a car length back in second with rookie Jordan Watson posting a solid
third. Judd Mills held on for fourth and Tim Millman rounded out the top five.
Hometown driver, Herman Powell drove the race of his career in the 15-lap AC
Delco Modified feature. Powell started on the pole with Bobby Watkins taking
second on lap one driving the John Wynn No. 79. Watkins would chase Powell the
remaining 14 laps pulling along side on several occasions but never being able
to make the pass.
At the checkered it was Powell, in the Delmar Auto Outlet/Mid Atlantic
Fabrication/Dirt Wheels taking his first career win. Watkins finished in the
second spot with Michael White taking third on the final circuit. Brad Trice
finished in the fourth spot and Tim Trimble rounded out the top five. Fast time
in qualifying was set by Trice.
It was double features for the Mod Lites on Saturday night. In the opening
feature which was the makeup from June 14th, Rick Wheatley led wire to wire for
his fourth win of the year. Brandon Dennis who was running in second on lap two
tangled with Curt Miles, Jr. with Miles, Jr. flipping hard but was not injured.
Ty Short took over in second until Kyle Fuller moved into the spot on lap five.
Fuller would chase Wheatley for the final five laps but Wheatley was able to
pull away in his Tink’s Fab Shop No. 14. Fuller turned in a personal best at the
track finishing in second with Kirk Miles, Cody Belote, and Short rounding out
the top five.
In the regular 15-lap Mod Lite feature it was Kevin McKinney leading the first
two laps in a side by side battle with Wheatley. Wheatley took the lead on lap
three but two laps later it was McKinney back on top. Just past the halfway
sign, McKinney caught a tire on the inside and spun bringing out the yellow.
Wheatley was now back on top with James McKinney in second and Eric McKinney in
third. Jimmy Wills made a strong drive from fourth to take third with one to go.
At the checkered it was Wheatley with his second win of the night followed by
James McKinney and Wills in the top three. Kirk Miles finished in the fourth
spot and Eric McKinney rounded out the top five. Kevin McKinney set fast time in
qualifying.

MOONEYHAM MEMORIAL LATE MODEL MAIN IN DELAWARE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – “It ain’t over until it’s over,” could not have
been more true as Ray Davis, Jr. of Millsboro, Del. came from third on the final
lap to win the 30-lap Elk Mooneyham Memorial Saturday night at the Delaware
International Speedway. Davis not only picked up the $1000 weekly Late Model
winners share of the purse but he also pocketed the $2500 bonus and an
additional $1500 bonus for being the first weekly racers across the finish line.
The race boiled down to a one lap shootout. Ricky Elliott had started in 12th.
Hal Browning was driving an inspired race in memory of his partner for 45 years,
Elk Mooneyham and had led since lap two when he passed pole sitter, Bob Geiger.
David Hill gave chase in second until lap seven when David Pettyjohn moved by
and took up the chase.

heading to victory the yellow was out when a car came to stop in turn three on
the final lap. On the restart, David Pettyjohn made a strong bid for the lead
but spun to bring out the yellow one more time.

green, Elliott again went to the very top of the speedway leading down into the
third turn. In turn four, Elliott missed is line by inches and slid off the top
of the track. Davis, Jr. was in the bottom groove and brought home his Virgil
Davis III Trucking/Rocket to his first win of the season and to the roar of the
crowd. Elliott recovered to finish in the second spot with Callaway third.
Fourth went to Mark Pettyjohn and Browning finished a strong fifth.
Heats for the 25 cars were won by Browning and David Pettyjohn with Rob Schirmer
winning the consolation. With his win, Davis, Jr. not only collected $5000 but

NO FLAT THIS TIME – JARVIS, JR. WINS SUPER LATE MODELS AT DELAWARE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Richard Jarvis, Jr. saw his hopes for a win
disappear when he suffered a flat tire while leading Thursday night’s Camp
Barnes Benefit. On Saturday night at Delaware International all of his tires
stayed inflated and he was able to hold off Ricky Elliott to take the win.
Bob Geiger had looked impressive in winning his heat started on the pole in the
20-lap main. Geiger fought off the challenges of Kevin Scott, Jr. for the first
three laps before Richard Jarvis, Jr. moved into second.
Jarvis went to the point on the fifth circuit dragging Ricky Elliott into second
and the chase was on. At the halfway sign Jarvis held a one car length lead over
Elliott with Geiger still strong in third. Staci Warrington had gotten by Scott,
Jr. after a great wheel to wheel battle and Ross Robinson had moved into third.
Jarvis was just a tick faster than Elliott in the second half and was able to
hold off his challenges. A caution was out on the final lap setting up a one lap
shoot-out by Jarvis held on to post his fourth win of the year in the
Mid-Coastal Siding/Rocket. Elliott finished in the second spot with Warrington
getting by Robinson with three to go to finish in third. Fourth went to Robinson
and Hal Browning, who started in 13th passed Kenny Pettyjohn on the final lap to
round out the top five. Heats were won by Geiger and Scott, Jr.
After running second in the makeup feature earlier in the night, Mike Wilson was
able to do one better and equal his win of last week. Wilson started on the pole
with Kelly Putz providing the pressure until Joe Warren took over second just
before the halfway sign.
Warren tried every move but Wilson was there to hold him off and take the win in
the Sundance Pool Supplies No. 12. Warren had to settle for second with Putz
ending a very good night in third. Fourth went to Tyler Reed and Travis Justice
rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by Warren.
In the makeup Crate Model feature from June 14th, last week’s winner, Mike
Wilson jumped out to the early lead with Tyler Reed in second. Kelly Putz took
over the second spot on lap two and by the halfway point was challenging Wilson
for the lead with Reed in third and Barry Beauchamp fourth.
Putz took the lead one lap later just as the first yellow flew for Nick Davis.
Putz remained in control the rest of the distance for his first win of the
season. Wilson finished in the second spot with Reed third. Fourth went to
Beauchamp and Herb Tunis rounded out the top five.
The Slide for 5 cars finished out the night with Dylan Betts blasting from the
back row to lead all five laps for the win. Wayne White, Jr. in his big station
wagon chased Betts the entire way for second with Bryan Nailor turning in
another good performance to finish in third.

BUNTING GETS 2ND DELAWARE BIG BLOCK WIN IN THREE NIGHTS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Sometimes things go good and sometimes things go
really good. Such was the case for H.J. Bunting on Saturday night at the
Delaware International Speedway. Coming off one of his biggest paydays of his
career in Thursday night’s Camp Barnes Benefit, Bunting found a way around Tim
Millman with just two laps left to go to win the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified
main.
Jeff Brown led the first two laps of the Big Block feature before Tim Millman,
who had started in fifth pulled to the front. Bunting following into the second
spot with Brown holding on in third. Bunting quickly caught Millman and had just
edged out front when the yellow came out for Ernie Lowe before the lap seven was
complete. This put Millman back out front and he moved to the high line to fend
off Bunting.
At the halfway sign Millman and Bunting ran nose to tail with Jamie Mills
joining the battle in third. Matt Jester was running strong in fourth and Judd
Mills held down fifth. Bunting again turned up the pressure on the leader as
Jamie Mills and Jester battle for the third spot.
Bunting moved to the bottom groove with five to go but Millman was able to hold
him off down the straights. With two laps to go, Bunting took the lead coming
off turn four and held it to the checkered for his second win in 72 hours and
his third of the year in the J&M Builders/Simpson Constrcution/Teo. Millman
finished in second with Jamie Mills third. Jester had to settle for the fourth
spot and Robert Dutton made a nice late race charge to finish in fifth. Heats
were won by Brown and Jester.
The AC Delco Modified drivers were on their best behavior in their 15-lap final.
John Curtis started on the pole in his Taylor & Messick/Curtis Farms/Teo and
never made a single mistake as he drove to his third win of the year in the
non-stop event that was run in a time of 5:54.598 seconds. Brad Trice, coming
off his first win of the year on Thursday night chased Curtis the entire
distance for second with Bobby Watkins, driving for John Wynn finishing third.
Fourth went to Tim Trimble and Joseph Tracy rounded out the top five. Tracy set
fast time in qualifying.
The Mod Lite 10-lap feature was a four car battle right from the drop of the
green. Kirk Miles led the first four laps before Kevin McKinney moved on top at
the halfway sign with Curt Miles, Jr. following on his bumper into second.
Brandon Dennis got by Kirk for third and with two laps to go took second from
Miles, Jr. On the final turn, Dennis dropped to the bottom groove and out raced
McKinney back to the checkered for the win in his Simpson Construction/Pro.
McKinney finished in second with Alan Passwaters turning in his best performance
in third. Fourth went to Miles, Jr. Cody Belote finished in fifth but was too
light at the scales moving Rick Wheatley into the fifth spot. Fast time in
qualifying was set by Tim White who was unable to start in the main.
This Saturday night will be an exciting special event – the 1st Annual Elk
Mooneyham Memorial. The Big Block Modifieds will race 30 laps for a $1000 bonus
and the Super Late Models will also go 30 laps with a $2500 bonus going to the

last and won the Camp Barnes Modified vs. Late Model Shoot-Out collecting $1000
in just 12 laps. Other winners on the night included: Herb Tunis in the Crate
Models; Brad Trice in the AC Delco Modifieds; Tim White in the Modified Lites;
Bill Brittingham in the Lincoln Vintage Cars and Morris Tucker (modified) and
James LaPlant (sportsman) in the Vintage Stock Cars.
In the NAPA Big Block Modifieds drivers started heads up in their heats from
their lap times in hot laps. Heats were won by Bunting, Wade Hendrickson, and
Chad James.
Bunting would start on the pole by virtue of his heat race win with Hendrickson
and James in the second row. The race quickly settled into a fast paced affair
with Bunting riding in the high groove and defending race champion, Hendrickson
giving chase. James was running solid until lap seven when he pulled into the
infield. Tim Millman was now in charge of third with Laubach running in fourth
and Richie Pratt, Jr. in fifth.
Millman’s night ended on lap 14 as he slowed to a stop bringing out the first
caution of the race. Bunting was able to open a four car length advantage over
Hendrickson with Laubach now running in third and Matt Jester advancing from
11th to fourth.
Bunting was able to maintain the advantage but a final yellow came out with
three laps left to go. H.J. wasn’t about to give up the lap money or the winners
share as he hit a perfect restart and drove to his second career Camp Barnes win
in the J&M Builders/Simpson Construction/Teo. Hendrickson finished a close
second with Laubach, Jester and Pratt, Jr. rounding out the top five.
“If you’re going to win one this is the one to win,” smiled Bunting. “It
represents a good cause and it pays a lot of money. That will help pay a lot of
bills and hopefully put a new motor together because this one was getting a
little tired.”
The Super Late Model qualifying was identical to the Big Blocks with heat race
wins going to Richard Jarvis, Jr., Donald Lingo, Jr. and Jon Callaway. Jarvis
set sail at the drop of the green with Callaway and Elliott dicing for second.
The first yellow as out on lap eight when Trent Collins came to a stop and under
the yellow Lingo, Jr. pulled to the infield.
Elliott shot into the second spot on the restart dropping Callaway to third.
Invader, Roland Mann was up to fourth and Norman Short held down fifth. Jarvis
would take the $100 midway bonus which was donated in the memory of Edward Lee
Jones by his children.
Two laps later, Jarvis’ perfect night came to sudden end when he exploded a
right rear tire in the fourth turn and quickly came to a stop. Elliott was now
in the top spot with Mann grabbing second with eight laps to go. A late race
caution did not affect he outcome as Elliott cruised to the win in the Charles
Jarvis/Seaside Builders/Rocket. Mann posted his best finish at the speedway in
second with Callaway third. Fourth went to Short and Austin Hubbard rounded out
the top five.
“We always seem to go a little better when the track slicks off,” said Elliott.
“It finally started to burn off the cushion right around the top. Once you open
a lane up and make the track a little wider it makes for better racing.”
The top five from each of the features advanced into the Shoot-Out. Drivers drew
for starting positions with Norman Short on the pole and Austin Hubbard in
second. Bunting started in the sixth spot but went to the bottom and was running
second by lap two. Hubbard got around on lap four collecting Elliott, Laubach,
Jester, and Mann. All cars were able to restart.
In accordance with the race’s format, the caution came out at the halfway sign
with the top five redrawing for starting spot and sixth through tenth going to
the pits. Laubach, who was running in fourth, drew the pole with Hendrickson
restarting in second followed by Short in the only remaining late model, Bunting
and Pratt, Jr.
The restart was what Laubach was waiting for as he pulled away in the final six
laps to take the $1000 win. “Oh my god, we drew number ten for the first half
and everyone knows that we have a pretty long ride so we were like – should we
just put it on the trailer and go home?” smiled Laubach. “Then we were oh hell,
we’re already down here so we might as well race. I haven’t been here in five
years. I don’t know why.”
Fast qualifier, Andy Hammond started on the pole for the first time in the AC
Delco 15-lap feature and held the point while Michael White and Brad Trice ran
wheel to wheel for second. Herbie Hempel got over the front of a spinning Garrie
Bostwick and flipped onto his roof on lap five but was not injured.
Trice took the second spot for good with six laps to go and two laps later,
pulled by Hammond for the lead. Hammond spun to bring out the yellow with just
two laps remaining which put White back in contention with Trice. Trice, in the
Mitchell’s Auto and Truck Salvage/Teo was determined to get his first win of the
season and held off White for the victory, Tim Trimble came on strong late to
finish in third with John Curtis fourth and Brandon Perdue fifth.
Herb Tunis had a perfect night setting fact time then leading every lap to post
his best career payday in the 15-lap Crate Model feature. Eric Vent gave chase
in the first half of the main before Kelly Putz mounted a charge. Putz was able
to get along side of Tunis but was unable to complete the pass as Tunis, in the
Tink’s Fab Shop/GMR/Warrior took the checkered. Putz finished a narrow second
with Vent, Joe Warren and Travis Justice rounding out the top five.
Tim White raced wheel to wheel with Brandon Dennis for the entire 10-lap
Modified Lite feature to post his first win of the year in the Floyd
Carey/Lightning. Dennis made one final try for the victory in the final turn but
spun and ended up in 16th. Curt Miles, Jr. posted a career best at the track in
second followed by Rick Wheately, Jimmy Wills, and Kirk Miles in the top five.
Bill Brittingham led the entire 10-lap Little Lincoln feature but ended up
winning by just a bumper as Jamie Wagner made a last lap bid that came up just
one foot short. Brittingham claimed both the $50 halfway bonus and the $50
winners bonus posted by Mitchell’s Auto & Truck Salvage. Mel Joseph, Jr.
finished in third with Jeff Wheatley fourth Pat McNeal fifth.
The Vintage Stock Cars closed out the night. Mel Joseph, Jr. who was doing
double duty led the first seven laps before getting caught in traffic and Morris
Tucker, in the Scott’s Furniture Gremlin drove to his second win of the year.
Joseph finished in second with C.J. Schirmer third. Fourth went to Dave Schamp
and Sonny Ritter rounded out the top five. James LaPlant was first sportsman.

LINGO, JR. REPEATS IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS – JON CALLAWAY
GETS CAREER 1ST AS ROOKIE IN MAKEUP MAIN
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Donald Lingo, Jr. may have learned something when
he posted his first win of the season last week in the 20-lap Super Late Model
feature at the Delaware International Speedway as last Saturday night he took
the lead on the second lap and never looked back for his second straight
victory. Jon Callaway moved into the Super Late Model division this season
driving for Gary Simpson. He didn’t seem mind the three week wait from the rain
delayed main from June 14th as has he posted his first career win in the
division.
The evening started on lap 4 of the postponed 20-lap Super Late Model feature.
When the rains came three weeks ago the youth squad of Kevin Scott, Jr., Ross
Robinson and Staci Warrington were locked in a torrid battle. When the race
restarted, Callaway moved by Warrington for third behind the lead Scott, Jr. and
Robinson.
By the halfway sign the top three were still Scott, Robinson, and Callaway with
Norman Short climbing to fourth and Warrington holding on to fifth. Callaway
locked into a battle with Robinson for second and took the spot with four laps
left to go. Callaway continued his drive to the front taking the lead at the
white flag and holding off Scott, Jr. by a mere .82 seconds at the checkered for
his first win in the Simpson Construction/Kelly’s Transport No. 12K. Robinson
held off a fast closing Ray Davis, Jr. for third was Davis maintained his point
lead by finishing in fourth. Veteran Hal Browning turned in a solid run,
finishing in fifth.
In the regular 20-lap Super Late Model feature, Rob Massey led the first lap
before Donald Lingo, Jr., who had started on the outside of the second row, took
the lead. Once out front, Lingo, Jr. would never be headed.
Hal Browning took over the second spot on lap three with Staci Warrington
running in third. Ricky Elliott was on the move from his eighth starting spot
jumping into fourth and taking third from Warrington on lap five. Elliott took
second behind Lingo, Jr. at the halfway sign with Browning holding on in third.
Callaway held the fourth spot at this point with Kenny Pettyjohn, driving for
Alex Beaumont, running in fifth.
Lingo turned the quickest lap of the night with a 19.036 and was able to stave
off the challenge of Elliott for the win. Lingo crossed the checkered .941
seconds ahead driving the Lingo Marine/Atkins Masonry/Parker Farm/Rocket.
Elliott finished in second with Callaway topping off a great night taking third
from Browning on the final lap. Ross Robinson also finished out a good evening
by rounding out the top five.
In the 15-lap Crate Model feature, Justin Breeding held the lead from his pole
starting position for the first three circuits. Mike Wilson, who started in
second, took the point on lap three and at the halfway sign the top five were
Wilson, Breeding, Tyler Reed, Kelly Putz, and Joe Warren.
Wilson would make no mistakes as he drove his Sundance Pool Supplies No. 12 to
his first win of the season and the third of his career. Breeding finished out
an outstanding run in second Reed nailing down third. Herb Tunis made a late
race charge to finish in the fourth spot with Putz finishing in fifth.

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Ricky Johnson of Delmar, Del. may have the
shortest tow of any of the drivers that race in the NAPA Big Block Modified
division but for the second time this season he proved that he is far from short
on horsepower as he took the lead from rookie Chad Clark late in the race then
held of defending point champion, H.J. Bunting to take the 25-lap main. John
Curtis of Harrington, Del. led flag to flag for his second win of the season in

eliminating Craig Ott and Howard O’Neal. Jordan Watson grabbed second from Matt
Jester but Jester fought back into the spot two laps later. Johnson was on the
climb from sixth taking third from Watson on lap eight and one lap later he
moved by Jester for second.

race charge to take third on the final lap with Jordan Watson fourth and Clark
fifth.

second time this season led wire-to-wire for the win. Defending point champion,

Wheatley moved on top. Brandon Dennis followed into the second spot and at the

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Defending Point Champion, Donald Lingo, Jr. of

new Super Late Model this season at the Delaware International Speedway. “We’ve
been throwing a lot of things at this new car and tonight we just went back to

Model feature – his first of the season on Saturday night.
Lingo, Jr. and Ricky Elliott claimed the two heats for the solid field of 18
cars setting the stage for what was yet to come. A big tangle occurred on the
first lap when Ray Davis, Jr. and Elliott got hung together coming down the
front straight causing a chain reaction back deeper in the field. Although the
pair was able to get untangled and continue the cars of Bob Geiger, Trent
Collins, Hal Browning, and Kerry King all received damage.
On the restart Lingo pulled away as David Hill and Staci Warrington battled for
second. The duo raced side by side for the spot for the next five laps until
Warrington nailed down the spot. Norman Short ran in the fourth spot as Elliott
jumped from ninth to fifth.
The top five remained unchanged through the halfway sign as Lingo opened up a
7.5 seconds lead. Bryan Driver came to a stop on lap 11 bringing out the yellow
and erasing Lingo’s lead. Lingo again was able to pull away on the restart with
Warrington solidly in second. On lap 16, Hill lost a motor going into the third
turn and Rick Whaley went hard off the turn after getting in the fluid.
This set up the race to the checkered with four laps to go. Again Lingo was able
to scoot away as Elliott went to work on Warrington for second. Elliott was able
to take the spot with two laps to go but was unable to close on Lingo who took
his first checkered of the season in the Lingo Marine/Ellwanger Insurance/Ford.
Elliott finished in second with Warrington third. Fourth went to Davis, Jr. and
Ross Robinson rounded out the top five.
The 15-lap Pepsi Crate Model feature was a competitive one with four different
leaders in the event. Travis Justice led the first lap before Tyler Reed took
the point. Reed’s lead would be short lived as Joe Warren moved on top on lap
three. At the halfway sign the top five were Warren, Herb Tunis, Reed, Sparky
White, and Justin Breeding.
Tunis cranked it up and took the lead down the back straight on lap ten. The
yellow was out as Reed and Sparky White made contact and went off the first
turn. Breeding now found himself in third with Mike Wilson running fourth and
Josh Millman fifth.
Tunis, in the Greg Mitchell Racing/Tink’s Fab Shop car took his third win of the
season with Warren finishing second. Breeding turned in his best performance of
the season in third with Wilson fourth and rookie Millman posting his personal

BUNTING BEATS FIELD AND RAIN IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Defending Point Champion, H.J. Bunting of
Milford, Del. picked up his first win of the season in the NAPA Big Block
Modified 25-lap main Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. The
NAPA Big Blocks and the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars were the only two
features that were able to beat the weather. Four laps into the 20-lap Super
Late Model main the rains came and the program was deemed complete. The
remainder of the Super Late Model feature will be added to this Saturday night’s
program. The remaining division features will be made up in the following order:
AC Delco Modifieds on July 5th, Crate Model feature on July 12th, and Mod Lite
feature on July 19th.
In the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Main, Steve Downs got around before the first lap
was complete bringing out the yellow. On the restart, Judd Mills led the first
lap but the yellow was out again for a tangle between Gary Blessing and Downs.
H.J. Bunting was on the move from his fifth starting spot and dropped Howard
O’Neal from second on the restart. Jamie Mills followed into third.
Bunting took the lead from Judd Mills on lap four and Jamie Mills dropped Judd
to third one lap later. A flurry of yellows on the next three laps kept the
field tightly bunched through the halfway sign. At the halfway flags Bunting
held a three car length lead over Jamie Mills with O’Neal in third. Judd Mills
held on to fourth and rookie, Joseph Watkins was running in fifth.
The final 10 laps were run under the green with Bunting seeming to get stronger
on the green flag run. Chad Clark was on the move taking fifth with eight to go.
By the checkered, Bunting had built a 1.5 seconds lead over Jamie Mills who
finished in second. It was the first win for Bunting in his J&M Builders/1st
State Chevrolet/Teo. Jamie Mills finished in second and padded his point lead
with O’Neal third. Fourth went to Judd Mills and Clark rounded out the top five.
Heats were won by Judd and Jamie Mills.
Morris Tucker’s only close call came on the second lap of the Vintage Stock Car
10-lap feature. Tucker got crossed up while leading and tangled with Mel Joseph,
Jr. Tucker’s car never came to a complete start as both he and Joseph got
straightened out but Joseph stalled and brought out the yellow.
Because Tucker had kept moving he was able to restart on the pole and would
never look back for the remained of the distance to take the checkered in his
Gremlin Modified. Joseph came from the rear of the field to finish in second
with C.J. Schirmer third. Fourth went to Sonny Ritter and Rick Loveland, Jr.
rounded out the top five.
The 20-lap Super Late Model feature quickly settled into a battle of the young
lions with 16 year old Kevin Scott, Jr. holding off 18 year old Ross Robinson
and 17 year old Staci Warrington. The top three had just started to pull away
from the field when the rains came. The remainder of the feature will be run
this Saturday night. The order for the restart will be: 1. Kevin Scott, Jr.; 2.
Ross Robinson; 3. Staci Warrington; 4. Jon Callaway; 5. Bob Geiger; 6. David
Hill; 7. Norman Short, Jr.; 8. Ray Davis, Jr.; 9. Rob Schirmer; 10. Kerry King;

JAMIE MILLS REPEATS IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Mills of Milford, Del. recorded his second
consecutive win in the NAPA Big Block Modifieds at the Delaware International
Speedway. Although Mills won going away its was a highly competitive race which
saw four lead changes among five different drivers. Michael White was in the
right place at the right time and posted his third win of the season in the
15-lap AC Delco Modified feature and Brandon Dennis came out on top of a see-saw
battle to win the 15-lap TUSA Regional Modified Lite main.
H.J. Bunting and Jamie Mills captured the twin heats for the NAPA Big Blocks. In
the 25-lap feature, Jeff Brown was off to a quick start before Judd Mills moved
on top. The first yellow was out on lap six when Robert Dutton came to a stop.
Judd would hold off Matt Jester for the next two laps before Jester moved on top
to become the third different leader. Jester’s lead was short lived as he slowed
on the next lap giving the point to Ricky Johnson. The caution was out on lap
ten when Jester came to a stop and Judd Mills headed to the pits.
By the halfway sign Jamie Mills, who had started in ninth was knocking on the
door of Johnson. Bunting was riding in third with Tim Millman charging in fourth
and Howard O’Neal in fifth.
Jamie took the top spot on lap 14 and the race would remain green for the next
eight circuits. By that point Mills had pulled away to a 5.6 seconds lead but
the yellow was out for a final time with three laps to go when Brown and George
Richardson tangled in the second turn.
Mills had no problem controlling the restart and drove to his second win of the
season in the Coulbourne Farms/Bicknell. Johnson finished in second with Millman
making a late race charge to finish in third. Fourth wen to O’Neal and rookie,
Chad Clark rounded out the top five.
John Curtis, looking for his second win of the season, jumped out to the early
lead in the 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature. Defending point champion, Brad
Trice worked by Tim Trimble on lap two and the chase was on. By the halfway sign
the top five were Curtis, Trice, Michael White, Trimble and Rodney Cordrey.
A three car tangle with on the white flag set up a one lap shoot-out. Going into
the first turn, Trice made the pass for the lead and led down the back straight.
Curtis tried to dive under Trice going into the third turn but the car pushed up
the track and he tangled with Trice with Trimble spinning to miss the two.
White found himself in the lead and had no problems on the final restart as he
drove the J&M Builders/Teo to his third win of the year. Jerry Carter posted a
person best in second with Joseph Tracey third. Fourth went to Bobby Watkins
after starting in 12th and Scott Calhoun rounded out the top five. Fast time in
qualifying was set by White.
A strong field of 18 Modified Lites took the green in the 15-lap TUSA Regional
points event. Aaron Bada went right to the top of the track and opened a lead
over the field. Tim White was running strong in the second spot with Brandon
Dennis in third.
White and Dennis put on a great battle for the second spot as Kevin McKinney
held down fourth and Rick Wheatley fifth. Wheatley spun to bring out the yellow
on lap 11 and Erik McKinney, who had started in 17th, moved into the top five.
Bada was smooth on the restart but with two laps to go, missed his mark in the
fourth turn and slid off the banking to bring out the final yellow. Dennis led
the field back to the green but White moved on top going into the first turn.
White led through turn three but left the bottom open for Dennis. Dennis pulled
even coming off of turn four then shut the door on White to take the checkered
in his Simpson Construction/Pro. White finished in second with Kevin McKinney
third. Fourth went to Erik McKinney and Cody Belote had a solid run finishing in
fifth.

STACI WARRINGTON MAKES HISTORY WITH DELAWARE LATE MODEL WIN
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Going into Saturday night’s 20-lap Super Late
Model feature at the Delaware International Speedway, Milton, Del.’s Staci
Warrington’s odds of winning were probably higher than those of Da’Tara’s at the
Belmont earlier that day. The result however was the same as the diminutive 17
year old who recently graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, led wire to wire
holding off former champion Richard Jarvis, Jr. to post her first career win. It
was a great night for the young chargers in the fendered divisions as Tyler Reed
of Milton, who just celebrated his 15th birthday in April, drove to the win in
the 15-lap Crate Model main.
Warrington moved into the Super Late Models this season after a single year in
the Crate Model division in 2007. At five feet tall and less than 100 pounds she
is far from your typical driver in the division. What would later turn out to be
a perfect night, Warrington demonstrated that she was on her “A” game when she
captured her qualifying heat and by becoming the first female driver to ever do
so in the division.
In the main, Warrington started on the pole in the 20 lap feature and
immediately found the upper groove to her liking. Defending point champion,
Donald Lingo, Jr. challenged from second with Rob Massey running strong in
third.
Ross Robinson worked his way into the third spot just as the yellow flew when
Lingo rolled to a stop on lap four. On the restart Jarvis, who had started in
eighth, went to work on Robinson for second, taking the spot on lap eight. At
the halfway sign the top five were Warrington, Jarvis, Robinson, Jon Callaway
and David Hill.
Once in second, Jarvis was able to close the comfortable lead that Warrington
had built and was running on her back spoiler by lap 14. The caution was out on
the next circuit when Bob Geiger and Derrike Hill came to a stop. Warrington
controlled the restart but the yellow was quickly out again for debris.
Warrington’s patience would be tested one final time when the caution came out
with just two laps to go. Under the yellow Robinson pulled from the top five
with mechanical problems. Warrington would never falter as Jarvis pulled to her
inside in turn four. She had the better line coming off the turn and drove to
her first career checked before the cheering crowd in her Warrington’s
Construction/ASI/Rocket.
When questioned why she had moved from the Crate Models to the Super Late Models
this season Warrington replied, “We just weren’t doing too well in the Crate
class. I like the Crate class but I just wanted to do something different and it
was a chance of a lifetime.”
Javis settled for the second spot with David Hill coming on strong for his best
finish of the season in third. Fourth went to Callaway and David Pettyjohn
rounded out the top five. The second heat was won by Massey.
In the 15-lap Crate Model feature it only took Tyler Reed one lap to work by
Kelly Putz for the lead. Reed slowly pulled away from the field as Jack Mullins
worked into second and Joe Warren came from seventh to third.
Warren’s run ended with the first caution at the halfway sign as he rolled to a
stop. The top five were now Reed, Mullins/Herb Tunis, Putz, and Sparky White.
Reed was able to open a slight advantage over Mullins as the race stayed green
until two laps to go when Nick Davis got around bringing out the final yellow.
Reed hit the restart perfect and was able to hold on for the final two laps to
post his first career win in the Reed Trucking/Quillen Signs/Warrior. Mullins
finished in second with Tunis third. Fourth went to Putz and Barry Beauchamp
rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by Warren.
The Little Lincoln Vintage Cars were on hand and in their ten-lap feature, Pat
McNeal of Baltimore, Md. pulled by John Stevenson on the first lap and would
never look back. Stevenson chased McNeal the rest of the distance but had to
settle for second at the checkered in the non-stop event. Bill Brittingham came
from eighth to finish in third with Donald Robinson, Jr. fourth and Jamie Wagner
fifth.

JAMIE WAGNER WINS LITTLE LINCOLN MAIN THURSDAY – SATURDAY
NIGHT FALLS TO SEVERE WEATHER
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Wagner wrecked his car but won Thursday
night’s support 10-lap Little Lincoln feature at the Delaware International
Speedway. Promoter Charlie Cathell hoped for another big crowd for Saturday
night’s URC Sprint show but it was not to be as severe weather storms moved in
during the afternoon washing out the program.
In the Little Lincoln Vintage feature, Baltimore’s Pat McNeal held off the
challenges of Millsboro’s Jamie Wagner for the first two laps before Wagner
moved on top. Wagner quickly pulled away from the field with Tony Daisey moving
in to challenge McNeil for second.
By halfway, Bill Brittingham was on the move taking third with Donald Robinson,
Jr. following into fifth. Wagner had a huge lead but Chris Loveland spun in the
final turn in front of the leader with Wagner making heavy contact. Wagner
somehow managed to keep moving and had a big enough lead that when the caution
did come out, he was still out front.
It was a one lap shoot-out with Wagner’s car damaged in the front and the
question was whether or not it would stay together for one final lap. It did and
Wagner held off McNeil for the win. Brittingham finished in the third spot with
Robinson, Jr. fourth and Mel Joseph, Jr. fifth. Sixth through tenth were John
Stevenson, Daisey, Duke Walsen, Richard Zach and Mark Cashdan. Rounding out the
field were Steve Baker, Loveland and Emory West.
This Saturday night the Little Lincoln Vintage Cars return along with the five
weekly divisions. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m.

DARRELL LANIGAN WINS NON-STOP WoO “FIRST STATE 50” IN
DELAWARE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE — Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. Became the first
two-time World of Outlaw winner at the Delaware International in winning
Thursday night’s “First State 50.” Lanigan did so in record time as the 50 lap
event was completed in a time of 17 minutes, 39.962 seconds.
Lanigan jumped out to the lead on the first lap as he battled his way past
Seaford, Del.’s Ricky Elliott who started on the pole. Lanigan, in his
gottarace.com Rocket quickly settled into a rhythm that made him the obvious car
to beat.
Illinois racer, Shannon Babb kept the pressure on Elliott for third while
defending point champion Steve Francis ran in fourth and Tim McCreadie chased in
fifth. The order remained unchanged through the halfway point as the race stayed
caution free.
Lanigan was patient as he worked his way through traffic with many of the back
of the pack cars racing him hard to stay on the lead lap. Babb started to turn
up the heat taking second in traffic from Elliott on lap 33.
In the closing laps, Babb made several runs on Lanigan, pulling along side of
the leader in turn two at one point. Lanigan remained focused and powered his
way to the checkered and the $10,150 first place prize. It was his fourth
consecutive top five and tied him for the lead in the WoO point standings with
Francis who came on strong to finish in third. Elliott finished out the night
with a solid fourth place run and McCreadie rounded out the top five.
Thirty-nine cars were entered in the event, including NASCAR Sprint Cup standout
Dave Blaney. Blaney drove WoO LMS regular Tim Fuller’s second car, timed
10th-fastest in qualifying and finished 25th after dropping out early in the
main.
Heat winners were Babb, Richards, Lanigan and Francis. John Blankenship of
Williamson, W.Va., and Donald Lingo Jr. of Millsboro, Del., captured the
B-Mains.

RICHARD JARVIS HOLDS OFF RICKY ELLIOTT TO WIN IN DELAWARE
LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Richard Jarvis, Jr. got some help from a late
race caution which negated a pass by Ricky Elliott and was able to hold off
Elliott on the restart to go on to the win in the 20-lap Super Late Model
feature Saturday night at Delaware International.
Jon Callaway looked strong for the second week in a row putting the Gary Simpson
late model out front at the start of the feature. Donald Lingo, Jr. ran in
second with Rick Whaley moving by Richard Jarvis, Jr. for third. By lap four,
Ricky Elliott had charged from his tenth starting spot into the top five.
Callaway built a comfortable lead but had a close call on lap eight when a
lapped car slowed in front of his as he came off the fourth turn. At the halfway
sign the top five were Callaway, Jarvis, Whaley, Elliott and Lingo.
With the race staying under the green, Callaway was in heavy traffic and Jarvis
was able to rapidly close the gap. Jarvis moved into the lead just as the first
yellow flew on lap fourteen when Lingo slowed to a stop and David Hill headed to
the pits.
On the restart, Elliott worked into second with Whaley following into third. The
caution was out again on lap 16 when Whaley rolled to a stop. Elliott pulled
even with Jarvis on the restart with the two making contact coming off the
second turn and Elliott taking the lead.
The pass was erased when the caution came out before the lap was completed as
Bob Geiger rolled to a stop. On the restart, Jarvis closed the bottom line and
was able to hold off Elliott on the final two laps to take his third win of the
season in the Mid Coastal Siding/Rocket. Elliott finished a close second with
Callaway third. Fourth went to David Pettyjohn with Ray Davis, Jr. rounding out
the top five. Heats were won by Callaway and Jarvis.
“Everything worked out in our favor here,” smiled Jarvis. “We still need to make
some adjustments to get ready for Thursday night (World of Outlaw show) but we
are definitely in the ballpark.”
Fifteen year old Tyler Reed set the pace at the start of the 15-lap Crate Model
feature with Barry Beauchamp giving chase along with Joe Warren. As Reed took
advantage of a clear track ahead the battle for second added Jack Mullins.
Warren broke free to take second and wasted no time in taking the point on lap
seven. At the halfway sign the top five were Warren, Reed, Beauchamp, Mullins
and Chris Jestice. Cautions on laps 11 through 14 kept Warren from building a
lead.
The final lap shoot out was all Warren as he recorded his second straight win in
the Big Fish Grill/Lazer. Reed finished a personal best in second with Beauchamp
third. Sparky White came on strong to finish in fourth and Justin Breeding
rounded out the top five. Fast time was set by Kelly Putz in qualifying.
The Slide for 5 final saw Wayne White, Jr. jump out to the early lead with Bryan
Nailor in second. Dylan Betts slid his way to the front for laps three and four
but could not hold off Nailor.
Nailor, despite a front tire that was smoking badly due to the front fender
rubbing on it but the tire stayed up and Nailor took the win which was worth
$133 in memory of Kyle Dixon who drove the No. 133. Betts finished in second
with Dave Redick third, Matt Carmean fourth and Jordan Herbert fifth.
This Thursday night the World of Outlaw Late Models will make their fourth
appearance at Delaware International. Gates open at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 7
p.m. NASCAR Sprint Cup driver, Dave Blaney will pilot the Tim Fuller backup car.
Defending champion of the event is Chub Frank who is currently second in the WoO

JAMIE MILLS TAKES NAPA BIG BLOCKS ON KYLE DIXON TRIBUTE NIGHT
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jamie Mills took the lead from his cousin, Judd
Mills on lap seven and went on to his first win in the Unity Tribute to Kyle
Dixon 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature Saturday at the Delaware
International Speedway.
Matt Jester won the first qualifying heat and Jamie Mills gave an indication of
things to come when he won the second qualifier. Judd Mills looked strong at the
drop of the green holding off last week’s winner, Ricky Johnson who had jumped
from sixth to take second from Howard O’Neal on lap three.
Cautions on laps three and four kept the field tightly bunched with Jamie Mills
working from fifth to second by lap five. Jamie had to fight off Johnson for one
more circuit before moving by Jamie Mills to lead lap seven. Johnson followed
into second and at the halfway the duo were followed by Tim Millman, H.J.
Bunting and Judd Mills in the top five.
Judd Mills’ car started to smoke and he drifted to a stop to bring out the
yellow on lap 14. Under the yellow, Millman pulled off with mechanical problems.
On the restart it was Jamie Mills and Johnson still one and two with Bunting now
in third and Norman Short climbing to fourth.
The race would stay green the rest of the distance and Mills cruised to the win
in the Coulbourne Farms/Bicknell. “We had some problems at the beginning (of the
season) but now we are getting things worked out,” said Mills of his new ride
from Keith Coulbourne. “Any new teams is going to have some bugs they have to
work out but these guys have stayed behind me and worked their butts off.”
Johnson finished in the second spot with Bunting third. Fourth went to Short and
Matt Jester rounded out the top five.
John Curtis started on the pole of the 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature and did
exactly what he had to do – make no mistake to post his first win of the year.
Defending champion chased Curtis until halfway when Tim Trimble moved into the
runner-up spot.
As Curtis cruised in the high groove, Michael White battle by Trice for third. A
caution with one lap left to go gave Trimble on final shot at Curtis but Curtis
was up for the challenge and held on for the final lap to take the win in the
Taylor & Messick/Teo. Trimble finished in second with White third. Trice held on
for the fourth spot and Joseph Tracey rounded out the top five. Fast time was
set by White in qualifying.
The 10-lap Modified Lite feature saw Brandon Dennis take the lead from Aaron
Bada just past the halfway point after a three lap side by side battle. Once out
front Dennis moved to the high groove and went on to his first win. Bada got
into a tangle with two laps to go and Curt Miles, Jr. would chase Dennis the
rest of the distance. Kirk Miles finished in the third spot with Kyle Fuller

HOMETOWN RICKY JOHNSON TAKES DELAWARE NAPA MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – NAPA Big Block Modified driver, Ricky Johnson has
the luxury of having the Delaware International Speedway literally right in his
back yard. On Saturday night he made the two mile tow even more enjoyable as he
won the 25-lap NAPA Big Block feature.
H.J. Bunting and Jamie Mills captured the two heats for the solid 21 car field.
Scott VanGorder controlled the start but the yellow was out before lap one was
completed for a spin by Jeff Brown. On the restart, Johnson shot to the high
groove and took the lead going down the back straight. Johnson’s strength was
obvious as he immediately opened a six car length margin over VanGorder.
The second yellow was out on lap three as Matt Jester, who was on a charge on
the outside, slowed to a stop with mechanical problems. Once again Johnson
pulled away on the restart. A torrid four car battle developed for second
through fifth with VanGorder, Howard O’Neal, Mills, and Bunting.
O’Neil climbed to second for five laps but VanGorder was not done and regained
the spot on lap nine. By the halfway point, Tim Millman had climbed into the top
five and was running in fourth. Millman got by O’Neal for third but began to
slow with five laps left to go. His night finally ended in a cloud of engine
smoke on lap 22, bringing out the final yellow.
Bunting was able to get by VanGorder on the restart but Johnson was just too
strong as he again pulled away for his first win of the season in the Johnson’s
OK Exhaust Center/Teo. Bunting finished in the second spot with VanGorder ending
a good run in third. Fourth went to O’Neal and Mills rounded out the top five.
Tim Trimble took advantage of his outside second row starting spot to race his
way past Brad Trice to lead lap one of the 15-lap AC Delco TSS Modified feature.
Bobby Watkins dueled with Trice for three circuits before taking second on lap
four. At the halfway sign the top five were Trimble, Watkins, Trice, Joe Tracy
and Michael White.
Trimble appeared to be headed for his second win of the season but the car lost
power coming off the fourth turn for the white flag. Trimble came to a stop in
the first turn bringing out the yellow and setting up a one lap shoot out with
Watkins now the leader. Watkins was able to hold off Trice on the final lap to
take the win in his Vortex Bed Liners by Gene’s Auto/Teo. Tracy finished in
third with White, who set fast time in qualifying, fourth and Scott Calhoun
fifth.
The Mod Lite 10 lapper was a good one. Rick Wheatley led the first five laps
before Steve White moved on top. Brandon Dennis moved in to challenge in third
bringing Tim White in fourth.
Wheatley was determined and kept the pressure on Steve White. On the final lap
White got loose in the second turn and spun bringing out the yellow with one to
go. Wheatley would hold off Dennis and Tim White to take the win in his Tink’s
Fab Shop machine. Kevin McKinney finished in the fourth spot and Kirk Miles came
from the rear of the field to finish in fifth, Fast time in qualifying was set
by Steve White.
C.J. Schirmer in his ’37 Ford Coupe took the lead on lap one of the Southern
Delaware Vintage Racing Club 10-lap feature and was never headed to take the
win. Mel Joseph, Jr. chased Schirmer the entire distance to finish in second and
Morris Tucker finished in third. Fourth went to Chuck Tucker and fifth to Rick
Loveland, Jr. Jim Laplant as first Sportsman finishing in eighth.

RICKY ELLIOTT DOUBLES IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Ricky Elliott of Seaford, Del. made it two for
two as he won his heat and his second consecutive Super Late Model feature
Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. Elliott took advantage of
a late race caution to catch rookie Jon Callaway and take the lead.
Callaway, who looked impressive in his heat race win, worked his way by 17 year
old high school senior, Staci Warrington to lead lap one. Callaway quickly
settled into a rhythm in the high groove with Warrington keeping place in
second. Donald Lingo, Jr. held the third spot with 16 year old Kevin Scott in
fourth and Ross Robinson in fifth.
The first caution came out on lap seven for Brian Driver. Ricky Elliott had just
entered the top five after starting in tenth and on the restart took third from
Lingo, Jr. Warrington held off Elliott’s challenges for the next two laps before
a four car tangle brought out the yellow just one lap shy of halfway.
On the restart, Lingo was able to regain second as Callaway once again pulled
away from the field. Elliott’s Charles Jarvis owned mount came alive regaining
third on lap 12 and taking second from Warrington one lap later. Once again the
yellow was out for a spin erasing Callaway’s lead and putting Elliott on his
bumper.
Callaway held on for one more lap before Elliott moved on top to stay with three
laps to go. It wasn’t over as Warrington ended her outstanding drive with one
lap to go when the front suspension broke, bringing out the final yellow. On the
restart, Elliott cruised to his second win in the Seaside Builders/Rocket.
Callaway finished a personal best in the division in second and Lingo, Jr.
finished in third. Fourth went to point leader, Ray Davis, Jr. and Rick Whaley
rounded out the top five.
The Crate Model 15-lap feature was a caution filled event that kept race long
leader, Joe Warren on his toes. Warren held off defending champion, Jack Mullins
throughout the entire distance. Herb Tunis worked his way into third from fifth
just before the halfway sign.
The final yellow in the event flew with just two laps left to go when Barry
Beauchamp and John Imler tangled in the third turn. Warren remained flawless on
the final two laps as he drove his King Crop Insurance/Lazer to the checkered.
Mullins finished in the second spot with Tunis third. Fourth went to 15 year old
Tyler Reed and Sparky White rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying
was set by Tunis.

UNITY TRIBUTE FOR KYLE DIXON NIGHT AT DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL
SPEEDWAY
Delmar, DE – The community of Delmar in which Kyle Dixon lived, straddles the
Mason Dixon Line separating Delaware and Maryland and is often called the “town
too big for one state.” Such was the spirit of Dixon who tragically lost his
life in January from injuries sustained in an auto accident. The impact his
memory had was too big to be celebrated by just the racing community so on May
24th the Delaware International Speedway and the community of Delmar will join
together for a Unity Tribute to Kyle Dixon Night.
At only 16 years of age, Dixon seemed to touch the lives of everyone he came in
contact with. Off the track he was a junior at the Delmar Middle & Senior High
School, an honor student, a wrestler and an avid soccer player on the school’s
varsity team. On the track, he had been competitor at the U.S. 13 Kart track
since age eight. Last year he started competing in the Slide for 5 division and
had been a crew member for Brad Trice who won the 2007 AC Delco Modified
Championship. With the help of former driver and long time friend and mentor,
David Trice, Dixon had planned on running in the AC Delco class in 2008.
On May 24th, anyone with a picture I.D. with a Delmar, Delaware or a Delmar,
Maryland address will be admitted to the track for free. The Delmar Middle &
Senior High School Band will play the National Anthem and other selections
during the night and there will be a video tribute during intermission. The
Slide for 5 division will join the five weekly divisions that night with the
winner receiving $133 which was the number of Dixon’s Slide for 5 car.

RICKY ELLIOTT STAY HOME AND WINS IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Seaford, Delaware’s Ricky Elliott spends most of
his time on the rode as a full-time racer in the Charles Jarvis Super Late
Model. Saturday night, Elliott decided to stay home and race at his home track,
Delaware International. The break from the road turned out well as he captured
the 20-lap main.
Heats were won by Kevin Scott, Jr. and David Hill. Early in the feature, rookie,
Kevin Scott, Jr. became the driver to beat for the second week in a row. Veteran
Hal Browning held the second spot until lap three when Elliott, who had started
in tenth, took over the runner-up spot.
Scott, Jr. would not give up the lead easily as Elliott gave pursuit until lap
eight before taking over the lead. Clearly the quickest car in the field,
Elliott pulled away as Scott remained solidly in second. Ray Davis, Jr. who has
been very consistent this season took over third and Browning held off David
Pettyjohn in for fourth.
The second half of the race stayed green and Elliott was on cruise control the
rest of the distance taking the win in the Seaside Builders/Starrette
Trucking/Rocket. “We tried some new stuff tonight that we don’t get to try when
we are out on the road racing and it is amazing how well it worked,” said
Elliott. “Kevin Scott did a good job. He is one of my customers.”
Scott, Jr. who is just 16 years old, turned in a person best in second with
Davis, Jr. third. Fourth went to Browning and David Pettyjohn rounded out the
top five.
Justin Breeding who just celebrated his 16th birthday last week, set fast time
in the Crate Model division. In their 15-lap feature, rookie Chris Jestice held
off the persistent challenges of former champion, Joe Warren to lead the first
six laps. Eric Vent made a bold move on the outside in the third turn to take
the lead on lap seven and was followed at the halfway sign by Jestice, Warren,
Mike Williams and Barry Beauchamp.
Jestice would chase Vent for the rest of the distance but Vent, in the Clark’s
Pools/Snookie’s Speed Parts/Lazer would not be denied his first win of the year.
Jestice made no mistake to take second with Warren finishing in third. Fourth
went to Mike Williams with Beauchamp rounding out the top five.
The Little Lincoln Vintage Cars made their first appearance of the season. Jamie
Wagner set the pace for the first half of the race with Mel Joseph, Jr. quickly
moving from ninth to challenge in second. Steering problems dropped Wagner from
the field just as Joseph moved into the lead.
A caution with two laps to go put Bill Brittingham on the Joseph’s back bumper
but Joseph held off the challenge to take the win. Brittingham finished in
second with John Stevenson third. Fourth went to Pat McNeil and Mark Cashdan
rounded out the top five. In victory lane, Joseph dedicated the win to former
racer, Donald “Duck” Robinson who passed away the week prior.

MATT JESTER ENDS MILLMAN’S STREAK AT THREE IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Matt Jester likes seeing different winners in the
NAPA Big Block Modified division especially when one of those winners is him.
Saturday night, Jester hovered in the top five until late in the 25-lap feature
before making a charge for the win and ending Tim Millman’s streak at three at
the Delaware International Speedway.
George Richardson controlled the first three laps after starting on the pole
before a determined Ricky Johnson moved on top. Donnie Radd followed into second
with Tim Millman riding in third. Jamie Mills marched through the top five
taking fourth.
With Johnson comfortably out front, first Millman, then Mills gave chase from
second. At the halfway sign the top five were Johnson, Mills, Jester, Millman
and Radd. Mills became the third different leader on the next circuit. The
caution was out one lap later as Glenn Richards and Norman Short came to a stop.
Under the yellow, the leader Mills headed to the pits with engine problems.
Johnson was now back on top with Jester breathing down his neck. Jester used the
quick outside groove to take the lead on lap 17. The race remained green the
rest of the distance and Jester, in the Clearview Farms/Smith Concrete/Teo
crossed under the checkered for his first win of the season.
“The car was definitely tight tonight,” said Jester. “I had to wait until we
opened up a little bit so that I could get on the gas quick. It was definitely
good to end that streak.”
Johnson ended a good run in second with Millman third. Fourth went to H.J.
Bunting and Robert Dutton secured a solid top five. Heats were won by Bunting
and Jester.
A record field of 31 AC Delco Modifieds were on hand with Jerry Carter setting
fast time in qualifying and Justin Griffith winning the consolation. In the
15-lap feature event, Bobby Watkins led the first two laps before Michael White
moved on top.
By the halfway sign Watkins was still pressuring White with Joe Tracey, Herman
Powell, and John Curtis in the top five. Tracey and Watkins went three wide for
the lead on lap 14 but White held off the challenge to take the win in the J&M
Roofing/Teo. Watkins finished in second with Tracey third. Fourth went to Powell
and Curtis held off Brad Trice to finish in fifth.
Steve White blitzed from his fifth starting spot to lead lap one of the Modified
Lite 10-lap feature. Once out front, White moved to the fast high line around
the track and was never seriously challenged. Brandon Dennis and Aaron Bada
battled for second with Dennis taking the spot. Fast qualifier, Tim White worked
his way up from ninth and was running in third with one to go.
Steve White, in the R&F Auto/Woods Contracting/Northeast Modified Lite picked up
his third checkered of the season with Dennis finishing in second. Tim White
notched third at the checkered with Bada and Curt Miles, Jr. rounding out the

ROSS ROBINSON GETS
1ST CAREER WIN IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Ross Robinson was extremely successful in the
Street Modifieds at Delaware International two seasons ago but moved to the
highly competitive Late Model division early in the season last year. On
Saturday night in only his second season in the class, Robinson held off Rick
Whaley by a bumper to record his first win in the 20-lap William J. Cathell
Memorial.
Sixteen year old rookie, Kevin Scott looked like he was a seasoned veteran as he
easily led the field at the start of the Super Late Model main. Robinson started
in the second spot and gave chase with David Pettyjohn challenging in third.
Donald Lingo was on the move but his night ended in a cloud of smoke as he came
to a stop on lap seven bringing out the yellow.
Scott again took off in the lead on the restart with Robison following in
second. By halfway Rick Whaley had worked by Pettyjohn for third and David Hill
held down fifth. Scott looked like he might be headed for his first win until
the car suddenly slowed on lap 14 bringing out the caution once again.
Robinson was now on top but he could not shake Whaley. Whaley made a bid on lap
17 but Robinson once again pulled away. On the final turn, Whaley squeezed
inside of Robinson but Ross was not shaken as the two raced clean to the finish
with Robinson, in the Blue Flame Gas Service/Grotto Pizza/Warrior taking the win
by just .13 seconds over Whaley. Pettyjohn finished in the third spot with Hill
fourth and Ray Davis, Jr. fifth.
Robinson celebrated by pulling up to the flag stand and climbing on top of his
car to salute the cheering crowd. Heats were won by Pettyjohn and Bob Geiger.
In the 15-lap Crate Model feature, Jack Mullins wasted no time moving from his
outside second row starting spot to take the lead from Mike Williams on lap one.
Barry Beauchamp looked strong running in third and two time winner, Herb Tunis
drove by Eric Vent for fourth.
Williams came to a stop on lap four ending his drive and bringing out the
yellow. Tunis grabbed second on the restart but could not close on Mullins.
Beauchamp regrouped and took second back from Tunis. The yellow came out for a
final time with just one lap to go.
Mullins had no problem driving away from the field on the restart as the
defending champion went on to his first win of the year in the Murray
Motors/Bi-Rite Auto/Warrior. Beauchamp finished a well earned second with Tunis
third. Fourth went to Vent and Joe Warren came on to finish in the fifth spot.
Beauchamp set fast time in qualifying.
The Slide for 5 cars rounded out the program. Dylan Betts led the first lap but
slowed with a flat front tire. Wayne White, Jr. in his big station wagon moved
on top and dodged all of the obstacles for the rest of the distance for his
first win. Brian Nailor took second on the final lap and Layton Pritchett
finished in third. Betts held on to finish in the fourth spot and Tyler White
came from 18th to finish in fifth.

MILLMAN STILL PERFECT IN DELAWARE NAPA MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – When Tim Millman decided to drive for Jake Marine
for the 2008 season he could not have dreamed that three weeks into the season
he would be undefeated. In Saturday night’s 25-lap William J. Cathell Memorial
NAPA Big Block Modified feature, Millman started in ninth and went from fourth
to first in a lap and a half to lead lap seven then go on to his third straight
win.
Steve Downs worked by George Richardson to lead lap one of the feature. H.J.
Bunting followed into the second spot with Matt Jester riding in third. Millman
was running in fifth by lap two and one lap later moved by Judd Mills for
fourth.
Bunting slid high and Millman went by both Bunting and Jester to take second on
lap six. One lap later he moved by Downs to take the lead as Jester followed
into second. The first yellow was out on lap eight as Robert Dutton slowed with
a flat. At the halfway sign the top five were Millman, Jester, Bunting, Judd
Mills, and Downs.
Jamie Mills was on the move and cracked the top five just as the final yellow
flew on lap 16 as Downs came to a stop just off turn two. Mills got by Bunting
for third on the restart and Ricky Johnson entered the top five.
Jester made a bid for the lead on lap 23 but Millman was able to hold off the
challenge and pull away on the final two laps for his third consecutive win in
the J&M Roofing/Finger Lakes/Teo. Jester finished in the second spot with Jamie
Mills third. Fourth went to Bunting and Johnson rounded out the top five. Heats
were won by Jamie Mills and Downs.
In the 15-lap AC Delco Modified feature, Tim Trimble quickly took command from
his pole starting position. Joseph Tracey held the second spot with Brad Trice
running in third. Trice climbed to second but on lap seven, Bobby Watkins got
over his front wheel in a battle for the position. Trice spun across the back
straight and collected Chris Hitchens. There were no injuries but both drivers
were done for the night.
Watkins recovered to hold on to second but Trimble would make no mistakes as he
piloted the Courtland Manor/Covey’s Car Care/Troyer to his first win of the
season. Watkins finished in the second spot with last week’s winner, Michael
White third. Fourth went to Tracey with Adam Jarrell fifth. White set fast time

second on lap three. It was the second with for White this season driving the
R&F Auto/Wood’s Contracting/Northeast Modified Lite Lightning. Dennis finished
in the second spot with Miles, Jr. third. Fourth went to Ricky Wheatley and

RICHARD JARVIS, JR. DOUBLES IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Richard Jarvis, Jr. started off the 2008 season
in perfect form as he won his second consecutive 20-lap Super Late Model feature
at the Delaware International Speedway. His second win however did not come
nearly as easy as his opening night wire to wire win. Jarvis started in seventh
and finally caught race-long leader, Bob Geiger on lap 16 and taking the lead
with just three laps to go.
Veteran Bob Geiger started on the pole and looked like he had hit the setup
perfect as he paced the field. Rick Whaley chased from second about four car
lengths back and Hal Browning ran in third. The first and only yellow flew on
lap six when Jon Callaway got some help and spun in turn three and Staci
Warrington clipped his spinning car.
On the restart Jarvis bolted into third with David Pettyjohn in tow. At the
halfway sign the top five were Geiger, Whaley, Jarvis, Pettyjohn and Browning.
With Geiger comfortably out front, Jarvis went to work on Whaley, taking second
with five laps to go. It only took one lap for Jarvis to close the advantage
that Geiger had built and one more lap to take the lead. Jarvis went on to post
his second win in as many nights in the Mid-Coastal Siding/Rocket. Geiger
finished out an outstanding run in second with Whaley third. David Pettyjohn
finished in the fourth spot and Browning finished in fifth. Heats were won by
Geiger and Whaley.
“I’m really proud of our crew,” said Jarvis. “We ended up fifth in the heat but
we didn’t give up. The guys just really went to work and we put all of our heads
together and came up with something and learned a lot tonight.”
In the companion Crate Model 15-lap feature, Herb Tunis also made it two
straight as he worked his way from his sixth starting spot to take the lead with
five to go. Mike Williams led the first four laps. The second and final yellow
came out on lap five just and Eric Vent took the top spot.
At the halfway sign Vent was followed by Williams, Tunis, Mike Wilson and Jack
Mullins in the top five. Tunis took second on lap nine and smoothly worked his
way by Vent to lead lap 10.
Tunis would make no mistakes from that point on as he drove to his second win in
the GMR/Tink’s Fab Shop/Rocket. Vent finished in second with Wilson third. Joe
Warren made a late race charge to finish in fourth and Tyler Reed rounded out
the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by Warren.

MILLMAN MAKES IT TWO STRAIGHT IN NAPA BIG BLOCKS AT DIS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Tim Millman made it look easy in last week’s
opener at the Delaware International Speedway when he started on the pole and
won the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature. On Saturday night, Millman
started mid-pack in the eighth starting spot but the result was the same as he
took the lead on lap seven and went on to his second straight victory.
Rookie George Richardson started on the pole and survived three cautions to lead
the first three laps. Jamie Mills, driving the Keith Coulbourne No. 55 took the
point on lap four as Millman shot from fourth to second. It only took two more
laps for Millman to catch Mills and take the lead.
The race stayed green until lap 12 when Steve Downs came to a stop. The field
restarted on the halfway sign with Millman pulling away followed by Jamie Mills,
H.J. Bunting, Judd Mills, and Glenn Richards in the top five.
As Millman remained comfortably out front Bunting began to pressure Jamie Mills
for second. Bunting made a move on the outside of turn four on lap 17 but nearly
spun. He was able to recover and hold on to third. On final yellow would fly on
lap 21 putting the field on Millman’s back bumper but that was all they would
see as Millman again pulled away in the Jake Marine/J&M Roofing/Teo. Jamie Mills
finished in the second spot with Bunting third. Judd Mills turning in a nice
performance finishing in fourth and Donnie Radd came on strong in the closing
laps to finish in fifth.
“This car is real fast right now,” grinned Millman. “I’m just the lucky one
getting to drive it! They had the car set up perfect and it makes it easy for me
to drive it.” Heats were captured by Bunting and Jamie Mills.
Jake Marine’s stable of cars continued to have a winning night as Michael White
held off the race long challenges of Tim Trimble to win the 15-lap AC Delco
Modified feature. White started on the pole as Trimble, Brad Trice and Joseph
Tracy battle for second.
Trimble hauled in second and was quicker getting into the turn but White would
pull back out front on the straights. At the halfway point the top five were
White, Trimble, Trice, Tracy and Bobby Watkins (who started back in ninth).
The top five would stay nose to tail for the remaining distance. The final
yellow came out with one lap left to go just as Trice had worked into second.
White remained picture perfect on the final lap and went on to the win in the
J&M Roofing/Teo. Trice finished in the second spot with Trimble third. Watkins
ended his charge in fourth and Tracy rounded out the top five. Fast qualifier of
the night was Watkins. Casey Lynch won the consolation.
Rick Wheatley had contemplated going home early in the night because he was not
feeling up to par. “I’m glad that I stayed,” was his response in victory lane
after he held off the persistent challenges of defending point champion, Steve
White in the 10-lap Modified Lite main.
Wheatley took off from his pole starting positing with Cody Belote running in
second. Kirk Miles took over the second spot until just past the halfway point
when Steve White dropped him to third. White immediately began to challenge
Wheatley but Wheatley was up for the challenge as he drove under the checkered
in his Tink’s Fab Shop No. 14. White finished in the second spot with Miles
third. Fourth went to Kevin McKinney who started in tenth and Tim White rounded
out the top five. Fast time in qualifying went to McKinney.

TIM MILLMAN PILOTS NEW RIDE TO OPENER WIN AT DELAWARE
INTERNATIONAL
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (4/12/08) – Tim Millman sat out much of last season
at the Delaware International Speedway after undergoing back surgery. Saturday
night he returned to driving with a new car and new determination as he captured
the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature on opening night.
By virtue of their heat wins, Matt Jester was scheduled to start on the pole
with Millman starting second. Jester was late getting out which moved Millman to
the point in the Delaware start. Millman would take full advantage of the
starting spot as he was never seriously challenged for the entire distance.
Donnie Radd returned to Saturday night racing driving the Jeff Brown No. 9R.
Radd held the second spot for the first five circuits before Steve Downs,
driving the Bill Wood No. 39W this season took the spot.
Several cautions kept Millman from running away and hiding. At the halfway sign
the top five were Millman, Downs, Glenn Richards, Ricky Johnson (who had started
in 12th) and Radd.
The final caution would fly on lap 16 as Robert Dutton pulled into the infield
and Joe Dekutoski spun to a stop in the second turn. As Millman opened a
comfortable lead and Downs ran unchallenged in second, Johnson got by Richards
with five to go with Jester following into fourth.
Millman, in the J&M Roofing/Rio Bros. Repair/Teo cruised to the checkered. Downs
started to slow in the final turn and Johnson was able to get by to finish in
second. Jester finished in the third spot with Downs coasting across in fourth
and Jamie Mills coming on strong in the closing laps to finish in fifth.
“I got a call from car owner, Jake Marine a couple of months ago asking me what
I was doing this season,” smiled Millman. “He said if I give you a car, motor
and trailer, will you drive for me!” A solid field of 22 NAPA Big Blocks were on
hand for the opener.
In the 15-lap AC Delco Crate Modified feature, Joe Tracy started on the pole
after setting fast time in qualifying. Defending point champion, Brad Trice,
driving the
Mitchell’s No. 57 this season, ran wheel to wheel with Tim Trimble for second.
Bobby Watkins started in sixth and was running second by the halfway point
behind Tracy with Trimble, Trice, and Herman Powell in the top five. Watkins
moved in to challenge with Tracy but on the final lap he pulled to the infield
with problems.
Tracy raced unchallenged to the checkered in the Virgil Davis Trucking/Milford
Rental Center/Troyer. Trimble drove an excellent race to finish in second with
Trice third. Fourth was a career best finish for Herman Powell and Michael White
came from tenth to finish in fifth.
Steve White picked up where he left off in the 10-lap Modified Lite feature.
Brandon Dennis set fast time in qualifying and led until the halfway point
before slipping high in turn four and opening the door for Steve White.
The defending point champion would lead the rest of the distance in the Wood’s
Contracting/Durham Racing/Lightning for the win. Dennis finished a close second
with Curt Miles, Jr. third. Fourth went to Tim White and Sparky White rounded
out the top five.

“RAPID” RICHARD LEADS FLAG TO FLAG FOR DELAWARE LATE MODEL
WIN
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – “Rapid” Richard Jarvis, Jr. lived up to his
nickname as he led all 20 laps of Saturday night’s Super Late Model opener at
the Delaware International Speedway. The former champion is back behind the
wheel of the Steve Nutall No. 11 for the 2008 season.
The feature started heads up from the heat race finishes with Jarvis on the
point and Austin Hubbard in second. Ross Robinson started in third and mounted a
challenge on Hubbard on a lap three restart. The two made contact with Robinson
going nose first into the wall at the flag stand and collecting Staci
Warrington, Derrike Hill, Kevin Scott and Kerry King.
Jarvis had no problems on the restarts and would quickly open an advantage over
Hubbard in second. Ray Davis started in 17th and was on a mission, cracking the
top five on lap six then working past Rob Massey and David Hill for third by
halfway. At that point Massey held on to fourth with Hal Browning running in
fifth.
Davis continued his charge taking second from Hubbard with seven laps to go. A
final caution on lap 17 gave Davis one final chance at Jarvis but Jarvis darted
away on the green and went on to take the win in the Mid-Coastal Siding/Rocket.
Davis finished in the second spot with Hubbard third. Fourth went to Massey and
David Hill rounded out the top five.
In the Street Modified 15-lap feature, Kelly Putz started on the pole after
setting fast time in qualify. The first lap was an exciting one as Putz, Jack
Mullins, and Barry Beauchamp came off the fourth turn three wide. Mullins edged
the trio to lead the lap with Beauchamp taking second.
Herb Tunis was on the outside and heading to the front after starting in tenth.
By lap three, he was fifth and one lap later he passed by Putz and Joe Warren
for third. Tunis dropped Beauchamp to third on lap five and two laps later,
slipped low under Mullins going into the third turn to take the lead.
At the halfway point the top five were Tunis, Mullins, Beauchamp, Mike Wilson
and Justin Breeding. With Mullins in control, Beauchamp and Mullins put on a
good battle for second with Mullins gaining the spot with three to go.

TEST NIGHT RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY BEFORE OPENER –
NAPA TO SPONSOR BIG
BLOCK MODIFIEDS IN 2008
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – While Mother Nature may have wiped out the Tune &
Test Night on Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway, she didn’t
wipe it from the schedule as the Tune & Test has been rescheduled for Thursday
night, April 10th. Also promoter Charlie Cathell made a big announcement this
past weekend when he named Delmarva NAPA Auto Parts Stores as the division
sponsors for the Big Block Modifieds for 2008.
“I’m proud of our long time association with NAPA,” said Cathell. “The name
recognition of the NAPA Big Block Modifieds will help add to the appeal of the
division. The commitment from the 17 Delmarva NAPA Auto Parts stores was
coordinated by the father and son team of Bill and Dale Cropper of NAPA of
Salisbury, Md.
The rescheduling of the Tune & Test Night was the direct result of request by
the drivers. “My phone has been ringing off the hook,” said Cathell. “A lot of
drivers have new cars and I don’t blame them for wanting a night to sort things
out before they are in actual competition.”
Gates open for the April 10th Tune & Test as 5 p.m. with test sessions running
from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. A number of divisions are expected to participate
including the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, the Super Late Models, the AC Delco
Modifieds, the Street Modifieds, the Modified Lites, the URC Sprint Cars, the
Little Lincoln Vintage Cars and the Vintage Stock Cars. Admission on the
grandstand side is free.
Opening night, April 12th, gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. For more
