Kids Racing Kids - Tomorrow’s stars, Today



A rumble is coming to New Castle, DE. Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club is hosting the Annual Quarter Midgets of America Region 2 Dirt States race this Memorial Day Weekend. Over 100 boys and girls, aged 5-16, will descend on Blackbird’s 1/20th of a mile clay oval to complete for honors in powerful scaled down race cars that are designed for them. The States Race which is a prelude to the National Competition, in August, will bring drivers from Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania to this tough little track to race.

Activities begin Friday evening with practice session at 5pm. NASCAR style qualifying begins at 9:30am Saturday and continues throughout the afternoon. Lower main races begin one hour after qualifying and the prestigious “A” Main races will begin on Sunday morning at 10am. On Sunday there will also be a competition for the prettiest car, prettiest crew and the longest haul to the event. Blackbird is celebrating their 22nd year of racing and invites everyone to come out and watch these talented youngsters.

Blackbird QMRC is affiliated with Quarter Midgets of America which is the “Best kept secret in youth sports”. QMA is divided into 13 regions across the United States and Canada. There are over 45 clubs/tracks across the country and they have over 2,500 families and over 3.500 drivers participating. Each Region has a “States Race” in which participation allows to drivers to compete in the three National competitions. Blackbird belongs to Region 2 of QMA, which is the largest region in QMA with 10 tracks in NJ, PA, DE, MD, NY and VA.

Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club will hold its annual Driving Experience/Swap meet on March 30, 2008. The dirt track, now in its 22nd year, is located just off Commons Blvd, New Castle DE, on the ground of Airport Speedway. Admission and parking is free.

For just $20.00 per child, ages 5-16, your son or daughter can experience the thrill of driving a real race car on a closed track in a controlled situation. Sign-ins begin at 10am, the Experience will begin at 11am and a birth certificate is required. BQMRC will supply everything you need, the car, safety equipment and comprehensive instruction on the race cars operations. Give your child the thrill of a lifetime they値l never forget. All children must wear long pants (jeans), socks that cover the ankles and sneakers. No open toed shoes please. Bring the cameras and video cameras, Grandmom and Grandpop and make a day out of it. Our concession stand will be open all day serving great food at reasonable prices.

Do you have quarter midget items to sell at the swap meet? Come by and sell it with us. Table space is FREE. Set-up begins at 9:30am.
