Who Said Dreams Don’t Come True? 2008 Was A Dream Come True For Michael White!

Laurel, DE.....In just his second year in the AC Delco Modified division, Michael White took his 2007 TEO Pro Car to the very top this season. The J & M Roofing & Builders # 85M proved to be one of the top favorites all year racing steadily each week. White had 4 wins, 13 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s and only 2 races out of the top ten.
When I was a little boy around 5 yrs old, I came to the races with my Dad, right here at Delmar. I said to myself that one day, I want to do that! I watched Harold Bunting, Gary Gollub, Bob Torkey race; they were my heroes. I wanted to race even more as I grew up watching them. My Dad always believed in me when I started racing and he always told me, I can do it! I held on to that encouragement since I was a boy and it was my dream come true this year.
“My year could not have turned out any better? Unless I win this weekend?” The Laurel driver began to race about five years ago. First in karts on and off as a teenager, then in 2004 started driving Modified Lite. “I ran Mod Lite for little over two years. It was in 2006 I ran on and off in the crate, 2007, last year, I ran ll year, I finished third in points. 2008 was my second full year running in this class, and this year the championship.”
This year I set a goal to go out there to win the championship, I wanted it to come true, but you don’t know how well you will do before the season. I have to say that I’ve known Jake Marine all my life. With my friendship with Jake, if I went to him for advice, he always gave me good advice. So I have to give him a special, big thank you, he really helped me this year plus he owns the car. But seriously I have to give him credit, without his help I could not do this.
“This year has been so fun; a lot is due to good luck and all the factors smooth or without a hitch. I don’t want to stop racing anytime soon. Another reason it was fun, because of the guys I run with each week. Tim Trimble, Joe Tracy, Brad Trice, Bobby Watkins all raced me clean all year. Every weekend we ran side by side. I think we are all champions; it could have been either one of us to take home the championship. My competitors, what great guys and the season was just fun; thanks to all of them. It feels good to have things go your way for a change. Racing just feels so natural to me; just got to believe you can do it.”
To all my sponsors thank you so much! J & M Roofing & Builders; Art Collins Trucking, Laurel Motor Company, Carey’s Towing, Ed’s NASCAR, H & H Overhead Doors, Chesapeake Paving, Barry Spedden Construction and Kelly’s Garage. I am proud to have you on my car and your encouragement.
Todd Fleetwood and Nick Hendricks got me in racing the Mod Lite, so I thank them for getting me started. They help me all the time; they have to be rewarded for all their efforts. My wife, Angela, and my two sons Adam and Jacob support me with so much, considering all the time working on the car. I would like to send a very special thank you to them for always being there for me.
I plan on running in the AC Delco class next year. Then I would like to drive a big block; and aim for a win. That would be another dream come true. At 35 years old, I’m not ready to stop racing. I hope to be racing for a long time, I love racing and this year was incredible. It was one of my dreams come true.
