Monster trophy finds its way to one special Carl Edwards fan in New York
DOVER, Del. — David Glatter is more than just your average Carl Edwards fan.
He’s a fan and personal friend of the driver who captured the monster trophy in
the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway on Sept. 23,
2007. That same trophy is now proudly displayed at the Cerebral Palsy of
Westchester (CPW) in Rye Brook, N.Y., courtesy of a generous donation by Glatter
and Edwards, and a special delivery made by Dover officials.
On Wed., Dec. 5, Dover staff members made their way to CPW’s facility in the
track’s Dodge pace car to deliver the autographed trophy to Glatter, a disabled
23-year-old resident of Yonkers, N.Y. More than 50 friends, family and staff
gathered at CPW’s facility to witness Glatter’s donation of the trophy to the
organization that he loves. At the assembly, Glatter spoke to those in
attendance about what the trophy means to him and how proud he is to present
this new source of inspiration for CPW visitors.
After numerous photographs with the monster trophy, Glatter took a victory lap
around CPW’s facility in the Dover pace car – a thrill of a lifetime for this
lifelong NASCAR fan with a monster-sized heart.
The story of David Glatter and Carl Edwards’ friendship is a remarkable one.
Glatter first met Edwards in the garage area at Pocono prior to a race in 2005.
After a brief chat, Edwards was inspired and promised that if he won the race,
he would give Glatter the winner’s trophy.
Edwards won, and the trophy now sits proudly on the mantle in the Glatter home.
Since that race, the two have become friends and cross paths regularly at events
that Glatter attends. This September at New Hampshire, the two met again, and
all Glatter spoke about was his volunteer job with Cerebral Palsy of
Westchester. Glatter has participated in CPW’s Home Service Program, and just
this year began volunteering weekly at CPW in order to give back to the agency
that has done so much for him.
Edwards wanted to help Glatter show CPW his appreciation for the volunteer job
and together they decided that the next time Edwards won, he would give Glatter
his trophy to donate to CPW.
Again, he didn’t have to wait long. Edwards won the next week at Dover, and
delivered on his promise.

NASCAR Busch East Series champion Joey Logano announces his NASCAR Nationwide
Series debut to come at Dover on May 31, 2008
DOVER, Del. - Joey Logano, the 2007 NASCAR Busch East Series champion and winner
of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, revealed this
past weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway that he'll make his debut in the NASCAR
Nationwide Series on May 31, 2008 at Dover International Speedway. The Joe Gibbs
Racing driver will make his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series start just one
week after turning 18, the minimum age required by NASCAR to compete in any of
its three national touring series'.
Tagged as "the real deal" by NASCAR veteran and four-time Dover winner Mark
Martin, Logano clinched the NASCAR Busch East Series crown at the Monster Mile
on Sept. 21, 2007, and by doing so became the series' first rookie champion and
its youngest since the series' inception in 1989. It capped off a highly
successful season that saw Logano set the regional racing world on fire. He
scored seven wins in 2007, including five in the NASCAR Busch East Series, one
in the NASCAR Grand National West Series, and most recently on Oct. 20, 2007 at
the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown which features top drivers from both the
East and West Series.
"Joey Logano proved this season that he has the natural talent and drive to
become a NASCAR champion," said Gary Camp, director of public relations for
Dover International Speedway. "We're looking forward to Joey's highly
anticipated debut at Dover in June and I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time
before we see him in Victory Lane in the NASCAR Nationwide Series."
Logano signed with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2005, and just days after turning 15,
made his debut in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series. Less than a month later on
June 11, Logano scored his first Hooters Pro Cup win at Mansfield Motorsports
Park. The 2006 season saw continued success in Hooters Pro Cup, with Logano
winning two races and a pole en route to a solid fifth-place finish in the
Southern Division point standings. It was a precursor to the success Logano
would attain in 2007.
Also introduced this past weekend was a line of Logano merchandise with
Motorsports Authentics that will include a running clock on their website,
www.goracing.com. The countdown
allows fans to follow the days, hours and minutes until Logano's NASCAR
Nationwide Series debut at the Monster Mile.
Tickets are now on sale for the June 1, 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, May 31,
2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series and May 30, 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
races at the Monster Mile. Dover continues to offer event ticket insurance for
all events, along with an array of ticket options including special 3-day
ticket packages, all-inclusive hospitality packages, early-buy discounts, and a
variety of payment plans. For more information or to purchase tickets, call

Logano Makes it Official
Joe Gibbs Racing’s 17-Year-Old Development Driver the 2007 NASCAR Busch East
Series Champion
DOVER, Del. (Sept. 21, 2007) – All Joey Logano had to do was start Friday’s
season-ending Sunoco 150 NASCAR Busch East Series race at Dover International
Speedway to clinch the 2007 Busch East championship. He did that and more by
leading three times for a race-high 79 laps before finishing second in the
150-lap race on the 1-mile oval.
“We set a goal at the beginning of the year to win the championship,” said
Logano, who is the series’ first rookie champion since the inception of Busch
East in 1989. “Whether we’re rookies or not, we go into every race thinking we
can win, and that’s what you have to do to win races and a championship. This
was our goal all year, and this is what we expected out of ourselves.”
Logano’s ninth podium finish capped a season that saw the Middletown, Conn.,
take six checkered flags – five in Busch East and one in the NASCAR Grand
National West Series, where Logano made his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) debut at
Phoenix International Raceway.
His win at Phoenix, where JGR teammate and fellow development driver Marc Davis
finished second, sparked Logano’s Busch East campaign. The driver of the No. 20
Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil Chevrolet never went more than two consecutive races
without a victory, as Logano won the Busch East season-opener at
Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway April 28, Iowa Speedway in Newton May 20, New
Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon June 29, Adirondack Speedway in
Beaver Falls, N.Y., July 29 and New Hampshire International Speedway Sept. 14.
Logano’s championship is the fourth for JGR, with the company’s three previous
titles coming in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series via Bobby Labonte in 2000 and Tony
Stewart in 2002 and 2005.
“Winning the championship is what we’ve been trying to do all year, and to
finally get it is pretty neat,” Logano said. “It’s one of the coolest things
I’ve ever gotten to do in racing.
“I’ll get in a Busch car next year. I’ve got to wait until I turn 18, which is
May 24. I’ll probably get some Busch East Series races in at the beginning of
the year, and then we’ll see what we have when I turn 18. I’m just learning all
I can right now so that when I turn 18 I’m ready to go Busch racing.”
Logano’s ascent to Busch East Series champion and soon-to-be NASCAR Busch Series
regular began at age six when he started his racing career in quarter-midgets.
By age seven, he’d picked up his first Eastern Grand National Championship in
the junior stock quarter-midget division. He followed that first title up with
Eastern Grand National Championships in 1998 and 1999 in the Stock and Modified
divisions, respectively.
By age nine, Logano was racing Bandoleros, winning the Summer Shootouts at
Atlanta Motor Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., to earn
another national championship.
From there, it was onto Legend cars, where a 12-year-old Logano set a track
record of 14 consecutive wins at Atlanta Motor Speedway, along with winning the
Young Lions National Championship in 2002. Logano also won the Pro National
Championship in 2002, making him the youngest champion in Legends history.
After conquering his opponents in Legends, Logano made a successful transition
to Late Model stock cars. At 13, Logano competed in the Georgia Late Model
Series and the Southern All-Stars, winning three times.
Winning meant another step up the racing ladder. In 2004, Logano participated in
the American Speed Association (ASA) and the ASA Late Model Series, where he
earned five top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
Logano’s rapid climb toward a career in NASCAR got a boost when JGR signed the
youngster to its driver development program in 2005. Just days after turning 15,
Logano made his debut in the Hooters Pro Cup Series. Less than a month later on
June 11, Logano scored his first Hooters Pro Cup win at Mansfield (Ohio)
Motorsports Speedway.
The 2006 season saw continued success in Hooters Pro Cup, with Logano winning
two races and a pole en route to a solid fifth-place finish in the Southern
Division point standings. It was a precursor of the success Logano would attain
in Busch East.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Joey for this huge accomplishment,” said J.D.
Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. “He’s got such a wonderful family that has
sacrificed so much. I know this means the world to them. Joey’s five Busch East
wins and one NASCAR West Series win prove that he’s one of those rare talents in
racing. We look forward to many more victories and championships together with
Joey and his family for years to come.”
-JGR-
Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) is one of the premier organizations in NASCAR, currently
fielding three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams, two NASCAR Busch Series teams and
a driver development program. Its driver lineup consists of Tony Stewart, Denny
Hamlin and J.J. Yeley in Nextel Cup; Hamlin, Stewart, Aric Almirola, Kevin
Conway and Brad Coleman in Busch; and Marc Davis and Joey Logano in the NASCAR
Busch East Series. Based in Huntersville, N.C., and owned by Joe Gibbs – a
three-time Super Bowl-winning coach, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame
and current coach of the Washington Redskins – JGR has competed in NASCAR since
1992, winning three Cup Series championships, one Busch East Series championship
and over 70 NASCAR races, including three Brickyard 400s and the 1993 Daytona
500

Caisse scores win number four while Logano claims the NASCAR Busch East Series
crown at Dover
DOVER, Del. - Sean Caisse finally got what he was looking for - a 'monster
trophy.' Racing on the NASCAR Busch East Series' biggest stage, Caisse held off
newly crowned Series champion Joey Logano to score his first win at the Monster
Mile, and fourth of the 2007 season.
As Friday's Sunoco 150 NASCAR Busch East Series race wound down at Dover
International Speedway, Jeffrey Earnhardt was looking for his first career
NASCAR Busch East Series win, while Joey Logano was looking for what quite
possibly could be his last. And Sean Caisse was hanging out in third place,
hoping for a break.
Caisse, No. 44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet, got that break when a caution
came out with 12 laps to go. When the green flag fell with nine laps remaining,
Caisse blew past Earnhardt and worked his way past Logano to take the win with
the setting sun casting long shadows across the Monster Mile.
"They were running at 150 percent and I was hanging back in third," Caisse said
in victory lane. "I had a little bit left but I needed a caution at the end. I
knew what I had to do, and that's what I did."
What Caisse did was get a jump on Earnhardt right off the restart to take second
place. Then he ran down Logano with about seven laps remaining, giving the
rookie enough of a nudge to send him off his stride a bit before passing him to
the inside.
Logano's No. 20 Joe Gibbs Driven/Coca-Cola Chevrolet briefly fell behind
Earnhardt's No. 1 Tracker Boats/Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet to third, but quickly
regained that position and turned his attention to running down Caisse. But
Logano ran out of laps, and was about a car length behind Caisse at the
checkered flag.
Caisse finished second to Logano in the 2007 points race. Jesus Hernandez
finished fourth with Tim McCreadie fifth. McCreadie will attempt to qualify for
the RoadLoans.com 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Dover on Saturday.
Logano, who clinched the 2007 NASCAR Busch East Series championship simply by
taking the green flag, celebrated with his own burnout on the track once Caisse
was done with his. After Caisse celebrated in Victory Lane, Logano accepted the
series championship trophy from NASCAR president Mike Helton on the
frontstraight at Dover.
Earnhardt finished third, and was a bit disappointed afterwards.
"I felt like we had the car to beat," he said. "We were fast. Every time we got
behind a car, we got a very bad air push. We'd run Logano down, get a bad air
push and we'd play that game. I was terrible on restarts, and that's where it
got us."
Earnhardt's car was a hand-me-down from his uncle. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ran the
car at the All-Star race in May.
"It's a pretty nice car," Earnhardt said. "I was just panicking because it's one
of the nicest cars we've got, and I didn't want to wreck it in practice. It
showed it was a good car today, and we were there all day long, we just couldn't
get it."
Meanwhile, Logano, who was driving a hand-me-down car of his own that was
originally Tony Stewart's, was able to just have fun.
"It was a fun race for me," Logano said. "I didn't have to worry about points
and I just raced my guts out the whole race."
And what will he be doing to celebrate the championship?
"We're about to find out," he said.
Saturday marks day two of race weekend at the Monster Mile which will feature
Happy Hour practice for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, and NASCAR Busch Series
qualifying prior to the start of the RoadLoans.com 200. Tickets are still
available and can be purchased by calling 800-441-RACE or at gates 4 or 11 at
the Speedway.

NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, BUSCH EAST SERIES DOVER PRACTICE NEWS & NOTES
· Sean Caisse, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Joey Logano Post Fastest Practice Laps at
Dover Thursday
· Rookie Joey Logano On Threshold of 2007 NASCAR Busch East Series Championship
DOVER, Del. (Sept. 20, 2007) – Three young guns paced NASCAR Busch East Series
practice Thursday afternoon at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. The track
hosts the series’ season ending Sunoco 150 Friday afternoon starting at 4:45 pm.
Budweiser Pole Award qualifying is set for 12:35.
Rookie Joey Logano (No. 20 Joe Gibbs Driven Chevrolet) paced the first of two
sessions with a fastest one-lap speed of 147.390 (24.425 seconds). Logano, 17,
of Mitchellville, Conn., will clinch the 2007 NASCAR Busch East Series
championship by taking the green flag in the Sunoco 150. He is only 19-points
shy of the title, and the minimum points available in the event are 73 for the
30th and last place.
Twenty-one year-old Sean Caisse (No. 44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet) paced
the late afternoon practice session and turned in the fastest practice lap of
the day at 148.920 mph (24.174 seconds).Caisse is second in the point standings
entering the Dover event.
Seventeen-year-old fourth-generation driver Jeffrey Earnhardt (No. 1 Bass Pro
Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet) was the second-fastest car in each of the
sessions. His second-session fastest lap of 148.846 mph surpassed Logano’s
fastest first session lap.
Caisse won the Budweiser Pole Award for the 2006 edition of the Sunoco 150 with
a divisional track record speed of 152.782 mph. He led 44 laps of the event, but
was eliminated by a late-race restart accident. He’s optimistic about getting
another shot at the victory Friday afternoon.
“We brought a really good car,” Caisse said. “This is the car we ran at Iowa and
the first Loudon race this year.”
Caisse qualified sixth fastest but finished 18th at Iowa Speedway in May, and
qualified second fastest but finished 24th at New Hampshire International
Speedway in June.
“It’s a good car. We’ve run very well with it and just had some bad luck. We
think we can turn that around Friday,” he said. “In race trim, we’re really
happy, but in qualifying trim, we’re really loose. The whole point of making
some qualifying (practice) runs was to make some adjustments for Friday.
“We’re pretty optimistic about qualifying. We should get a pretty good starting
spot, at least in the top-three. We’re shooting for the pole. We won the pole
last year but we were too tight in the race.
“Each year we learn more to use when we come back. Right now, the car is really
free in race trim and I think that’s were we need to be because this place
tightens up quite a bit in the long runs.”
A cloudy practice day kept the track and temperatures relatively cool, compared
with sunny day conditions at the one-mile, high banked concrete “Monster Mile.”
“When the sun comes out it gets slick and greasy,” Caisse said. “Today the track
had a lot of grip in it. You could go sailing of in the corners pretty hard and
be aggressive on the tires and tire wear wasn’t a factor at all. The tires
looked really, really good. We were trying to run a race pace and keep the
speeds consistent. We kept checking the tire temperatures and readings, and we
didn’t abuse the tires at all.
“We’ll find out Friday where we stack up.”
Here are the top-10 fastest cars in each Thursday afternoon NASCAR Busch East
Series practice session at Dover:

Jeff Burton, No. 31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet Dover media conference call
transcript
Sept. 19, 2007, 10 a.m.
Gary Camp, Dover International Speedway: Race weekend will be here in just a few
days. We have three races in three days. On Friday is the NASCAR Busch East
Series race. It’s actually the season finale for that series, the Sunoco 150.
Saturday is the Busch race, the RoadLoans.com 200. And then Sunday is the NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup race, the Dodge Dealers 400. Sunny skies. 80 degrees. No rain — we’re
due after a tough June.
Today we’re joined by Jeff Burton. He started 27 races here in Dover. One win,
six top-5’s, ten top-10’s. His most recent race at Dover, the Autism Speaks 400
in June, he started ninth and finished 12th. Let me start it off by asking what
it’s been a year since the big win here in Dover, it ended a 175-race winless
streak, talk a little bit about that and what it’s like coming back to Dover
after that big win.
Jeff Burton, No. 31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet: That certainly was a big win for
us. To get back into victory lane there was really big. We won the Busch race
there in the Spring and then to come back and win the Cup race in the Fall was
really cool. I’ve always liked the race track and I’ve been in position to win
there quite a few times and just never finished it off but I guess if we were
every going to finish one off, that was the one to do it. It put us back on the
map and it meant a great to me personally as well as my team.
Camp: I remember it was tough. We were all set in victory lane, and you pulled
the car in and got out and the skies just opened up.
Burton: It was pouring down raining.
Camp: What a shame. What is it going to take to repeat that performance from
last season? What do you need to do to repeat upon that?
Burton: If you watched the race there from the Spring with Truex and those guys
really hitting it with the Car of Tomorrow, but to me, the first race there at
Dover was the first real test of the Car of Tomorrow on a bigger, faster
racetrack. I think we saw there what I think you’re going to see for a period of
time is with this car, and that it’s so new, there will be a period of time
where a lot of people are going to hit it. They’ll put a hurting on everybody,
and that’s what they did. They did a great job and beat up on everybody, more or
less, and just outran everybody. The key there is the same thing that it’s
always been about – handling. It’s all about handling. Being able to run on the
very body or being able to move the groove and put it where you want to put it,
and that’s what he was able to do. He could run wherever he wanted to run. But
that’s what our focus has been on. We’ve have not performed well in particular
with the Car of Tomorrow, and we haven’t performed as well as we need to. We’ve
put a tremendous amount of effort into it, but we just haven’t hit it. One of
the things we’ve been working on is trying to find out what our teammates have
been doing differently, and they’re having more success. I also think there are
something’s that we’ve done that can help them. But with the Car of Tomorrow
that’s kind of hard is that none of us have ever felt really, really great about
it. We’ve all been kind of searching. We don’t have a baseline set up that we
can fall back on so we’re working hard to develop that and I feel better going
into this Dover race then I did in the Spring. I thought in practice we were the
best car there and then when the race started we were off, and that’s something
that we struggle with the Car of Tomorrow. It’s too thin of a razor blade and we
need to find ourselves some cushion.
Q: Talk a little bit about qualifying here at Dover. Last year when you won the
race you were 19th. Martin Truex Jr. started 26th and won the race in June. How
important is qualifying here in Dover? Do you have enough time to work your way
through the field?
Burton: Qualifying at Dover is one of the hardest places to qualify. I don’t
know what it is but it’s very demanding and very difficult to hit two laps there
and hit them well. Our qualifying setup at Dover is quite a bit different than
our race setup and so when you qualify poorly there I don’t think that it’s sign
that you’re going to race poorly. I think it’s just a sign that you didn’t do a
good job qualifying. It is a concern but not that if you don’t do well you can’t
race well. I have a history of not qualifying well, especially at Dover. It’s
probably my worst qualifying race track, but I’m comfortable there. I enjoy
racing there. But I don’t think there’s a whole lot of correlation between
qualifying and racing.
Q: In your opinion, what is it going to take to win this year’s championship? Is
it wins or consistent top-10’s?
Burton: If you look at the regular season, and look at what Jeff Gordon and
Jimmie Johnson were able to do, they were able to put, more so the No. 24 than
the No. 48, I think, were able to put consistency together with high
performance. It wouldn’t be a surprise for me to see one of these teams go
through the ten race schedule without a catastrophic issue. Having said that,
you’re going to have to perform at a high level. I think what won it last year
was an average of like a 10.7 or 10.6 average finish, but Jimmie led seven or
eight races and got a tremendous amount of bonus points. Plus this year, wins
pay more than last year, so those numbers are a little bit skewed, but you’re
going to have to finish an average of a ninth place finish, which sounds easy.
But it’s exceptionally hard to do. We finished 18th last week, so for us to
average a ninth, we’re going to have to win this week. We got to start getting
that average down and on top of that, we need to lead laps. It’s going to take
consistency, but it’s going to take speed.
Q: What do you remember about your first experience in Dover?
Burton: I just remember thinking how fast it was. The speed that you feel at
Dover, it’s just a really high-speed racetrack. I came in there, I don’t
remember what year it was, but my dad and I owned the car. We came there to race
and I couldn’t believe how fast and narrow it was. The straightaways at that
place are so narrow. It’s a fun race track, but it is a demanding race track.
Just the speed and sensation of speed is something that always whenever I go
there is really cool. Every time you go there is like going there for the first
time again. The track changes a lot, it’s never the same, it’s just a real
challenge.
Q: When you were first here it was still asphalt, correct?
Burton: Yes.
Q: This may be semi-humorous story, maybe not to you, but tell us the story
about your monster trophy and your wife.
Burton: Yeah, it’s not funny to her. It’s kind of funny to me. But she decided
that it needed to be somewhere else. She wanted to move it. Well of course I’m
never home so she went to do it herself. For those of you that don’t know, the
Dover trophy is pretty heavy. It’s not a light piece, and my wife weighs all of
95 pounds. So she decided to move it and tripped, and fell on top of it,
breaking it into 60 pieces. She fell on top of it and when she did it broke her
ribs. So it damaged her, destroyed the trophy, and it was quite a mess. It hurt
her, it really did. So the monster bit her.
Q: Did you get a new one?
Burton: Yes, we got a new one. We broke the Dover trophy, the Southern 500
trophy and our Daytona one all in a matter of about two months from each other.
Q: Did she break all of them?
Burton: No. We remodeled our trophy room and put some new shelves in and I set
the Darlington Southern 500 trophy on top of the Daytona one on a glass shelf.
Well it didn’t like that. The glass shelf was cut too short and it fell through
the pins and landed on top of the Daytona one. We went through about $10,000 in
trophies pretty quick.
Q: This is a broad prospective question about the possible arrival of more
international drivers, as well as Toyota, and maybe some more international
nameplates. Obviously it’s added some more interest to the sport, but do you
think there is a tipping point somewhere where it represents too much change for
fans of the sport?
Burton: I think that some other series’ in the country have not benefited from
having too many foreign drivers and I do believe that Americans like to pull for
Americans, and Italians like to pull for Italians, and so forth. It’s not to say
that Americans hate drivers from other countries. I don’t believe that by any
means. But I do believe that this has been an American based series for a long
time and a radical departure from that would probably not be a good thing. We
should welcome anyone that has shown the ability to race at this level to be a
part of it, but without a doubt, we should not limit it to people depending upon
where they’re from. I don’t believe that you will see a major shift. The people
that run this series, from Americans to non-Americans, I don’t believe you will.
With Montoya coming in it has done some really good things for our sport and for
motorsports in general, it has done something really good things. F1 fans are
probably paying more attention to NASCAR and NASCAR are paying more close
attention to F1, and they probably have more of an appreciation for how hard
each one is. And that’s a good thing. I don’t see a major shift in this being an
American sport to the point where it does start to turn people off, but I do
think there is a breaking point that American fans wouldn’t be as interested as
they are today.
Q: In New York last week, talking about racing in the Chase, a lot of guys,
including Martin Truex Jr., said that he was racing on pins and needles. Once
the Chase starts can you just race or are you conscious of where you are and
where the other guys are on the track?
Burton: You are conscious but everyone’s different. I’m not going to speak for
everyone, but I’m not always conscious of where everyone else is. I do pay more
attention to those people today more than I did four months ago, but it is also
true that it’s very clear to me in order to be successful, it matters how we
run. That’s one that thing we can’t control, how other people run. But it’s
clear to me that we can control how we run and everyone else controls their own
performance. But it’s very clear to me that we can’t control that or our own
performance always, and that’s where our attention needs to be. You can’t come
into this sport and be apart of all the pressure and all of the excitement of
the Chase without it being more stressful then it would be if you weren’t in it.
But that’s what sports are about and that’s what makes it work.
Q: When you won at Dover after that great battle with Matt Kenseth, he came back
out on the track and you guys were side-by-side, do you remember what he said to
you?
Burton: I’m not sure he said anything but he gave me a high five, a sign of
respect, but I don’t think either of us said anything. It was a sign of respect.
Here’s a guy that pretty much dominated the race and didn’t win it but took the
time to congratulate the person that did. That’s a rare thing. It meant a lot,
no question. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Matt. He’s a really good
person, number one. He’s a consistent performer, number two. If not the most
consistent performer over the last five years and I respect that a great deal.
His acknowledgement of our success meant a great deal to me.
Q: Hendrick had a lot of notoriety over the advancement of their COT program
early in the season. Childress has three guys, including you, in the Chase. Is
that something that fuels you guys, the lack of notoriety? Or is it something
that is just a sign of the advancement of Childress since last year?
Burton: Certainly three years ago we weren’t in the position to put three teams
in the Chase. We didn’t’ have a chance. We’ve advanced our company and certainly
Hendrick has had a lot to do with that. They haven’t advanced our company, they
haven’t helped us with that, but they have set a standard that all of the teams
in NASCAR have been trying for years to match the effort and success that
Hendrick has put up. So I don’t view that as some sort of inspiration through
negativity, but it’s clear that every team has had to step it up to be
successful. We have indeed set it up. It’s clear that we need to take another
step. For every step you take, there’s another still left that you haven’t, and
we need to find a way to be better. Going into last week’s race, I’m not sure
any RCR team has dominated, until last week. Obviously Bowyer dominated last
week, but none of us have taken a race and said, “This is mine, come take it
from me.” And that’s what we need to be. We’re a hell of a lot closer than we
were two years ago.
Q: Last week you touched on that adding two drivers to the Chase has made it
more difficult. At New Hampshire, with the first seven drivers being Chase
drivers, you finished 18th and yet you drop in the standings. Can you talk about
that a little bit?
Burton: Well when you finish 18th you should drop. A team that finished 18th
doesn’t deserve to win a championship. There’s no question that the more quality
teams you put into the Chase the harder it will be to win it. No getting around
that. The quality of the teams that we have today, taking last week, who you
going to look at and say, “They can’t win it?” I understand that there are teams
more of a favorite to win. If one team does win it that wasn’t supposed to, now
that’d be a great surprise, but at the end of the day, who would be a big
surprise if they did win the championship? All are good teams. All are well
funded teams. Well run teams. They’ve all had success in their past. There’s no
team you look at that can’t get it done. So having 12 of those teams versus ten
does make it harder.
Q: Is last year’s victory ancient history at this point now that you have the
COT? Is there any momentum that you carry into this race?
Burton: I don’t believe in that. Maybe I have a negative personality or
something but momentum is a highly overused word. Momentum is generated by
success. Success isn’t generated by momentum. I think that a lot of people
confuse the two. I don’t care how pumped up you are, how excited your team is,
how much belief you have in yourself, if it won’t go fast, it won’t go fast.
That’s just the way it is. Momentum doesn’t put trophies in the cases; success
puts trophies in the cases. It’s clear to me that success on this Sunday doesn’t
guarantee success next Sunday. Nor does it guarantee failure. It helps you build
and learn. With the more success you have the more you can have but of course it
means you’re doing a good job. I don’t feel that we have any sort of advantage
based on the fact that we won the race there last year. I wish I could. But the
reality is that it’s a whole other world. A whole new set of rules. And we need
to go earn it.
Q: You get a lot of compliments from your RCR teammates about what you’ve
brought to the team, experience, and so forth. Does it seem as a natural role to
you?
Burton: I enjoy being more than just the driver of the AT&T Chevrolet. I enjoy
being part of the company and the opportunity to work with the other teams and
trying to make the company the best it can be. I’ve always enjoyed that
opportunity. Someone else has to decide whether or not I do a good job at it but
yes, I’ve always enjoyed it. I don’t want to be just the driver of the No. 31; I
want it to be more than that. I enjoy that. Some are burdened by it, but my
personality is such that I enjoy it. I hope I do it well because I enjoy it.
Q: This vaguely related to Dale Earnhardt Jr. but I hope you can relate your own
experience. How much pressure is there on a driver when you make a move from one
team to another? When the performance expectation with another team may be
higher, certainly not less, but how does that play on you as a young person
reestablishing your reputation?
Burton: I don’t want to put words in Dale Jr.’s mouth but you want the
acknowledgement that you’re good at what you do and you want people around you
to believe that you’re good at what you do. You want to be part of something
that is better than what you had when you left, or by the way, you wouldn’t have
left. There’s a sorting out period. You sort out your role. What you were doing
there and what you’ll do now. Everybody else will do that too. It is a difficult
situation. It’s not an east way out. Some people think that some people think
switching teams is easy. You go to battle with these guys every Sunday, every
weekend, and it’s hard to walk away from that. There will be more pressure on
him immediately to succeed, because he’s such a big name, and if he’s doing the
right thing, and he’ll want to prove to the naysayers and himself that he did
the right thing. He’s going to drive for arguably the most successful company in
Cup racing. He’s going to expect results immediately and that does add pressure.
There’s no way around it.
Q: In your case, did it take getting you first win with Childress to think that
you did the right thing?
Burton: When I made the decision to go t o Childress, I resisted the temptation
to look over my shoulder at what the No. 99 did this week to judge if I did the
right thing. When I went to RCR, it was clear to me that we had work to do. We
had to improve. It was clear to me that I was perhaps taking a step back short
term to in the long term be successful. I had to ignore what was going on with
the No. 99 and that performance to see what we were doing. We were making
improvements? Were we stepping forward? That’s all I paid attention to. If I had
looked at the No. 99 every week to see if I did the right thing or not, I would
have been disappointed. I knew what I was stepping into and that I had to
battle. I was prepared for that. Honestly, that was the only way I could be
successful. Junior’s in a different situation. He’s believes that he can
immediately be more successful at Hendrick Motorsports and he’s not going to
have that same attitude. And there are reasons for him to believe that. I don’t
think he’s wrong in believing that. It’ll be different for him than it was for
me.
Q: Do you think the track changes at Dover each time you go there and in what
ways?
Burton: The way the car handles seems to be different every time you go there. I
don’t know if it’s the concrete or what but the racetrack consistently does the
same thing during the race, but one race to the next, it always seems to be
different. Which is a good thing. That’s how it should be. That’s part of what
racing is all about. Adapting to challenge and things how they change. This is
one place that changes from race to race as much as anywhere. And it’s all about
how the car feels and how it drives.
Q: Can you talk about Joey Logano. He’s about to win the Busch East championship
this weekend. Have you crossed paths with him and what have you heard? Is he on
the fast track to NEXTEL Cup do you believe?
Burton: I have not crossed paths with Joey yet. I have through Mark Martin heard
that Joey Logano was the next best thing coming. Mark Martin, I’m going to say
four years ago, said that Joey Logano was going to be the guy to do it. When
Mark tells me that, I have reason to believe him. He’s an incredible judge of
talent. He identified Joey a long time ago and so I watched because of that. He
when he’s ready and old enough, there will be opportunities at the Cup level for
Joey, there’s no doubt about it. He’s earned it and he’s driven his whole life.
He’s succeeded in every form of motorsports as far as I can tell that he’s been
in and he’ll deserve a shot.
Gary Camp: Thank you Jeff for taking the time to do this. We’ll see you soon.
Thank you all for calling in. Thanks again. We’ll see you all in Dover.

Gilliland, 31, a Riverside, Calif., native, made his mark on the NASCAR scene on
June 17, 2006, when he took the checkered flag at Kentucky Speedway in only his
seventh career Busch Series start. The win was remarkable considering Gilliland
competed, without sponsorship, alongside several powerhouse NEXTEL Cup Series
drivers to become the first Busch Series regular to post a win during the
season.
That win opened the door for a chance to compete in NASCAR’S NEXTEL Cup Series.
On August 18, 2006, Gilliland took the wheel of the No. 38 M&M’s Ford at
Michigan International Speedway for Robert Yates Racing. Teamed with veteran
crew chief, Todd Parrott for the final 14 races of the season, rookie Gilliland
finished in the top-15 at Talladega and Atlanta, earning his first NEXTEL Cup
Series pole at Talladega and qualifying him for the 2007 Budweiser Shootout at
Daytona.
In 26 starts in his first full season of competition in this year’s NEXTEL Cup
Series, David Gilliland has posted one top-five and two top-ten finishes and is
currently in 28th position in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings.

Sept. 10, 2007

NASCAR Busch East Series champion to be crowned at Dover International Speedway
on Sept. 21, 2007
Monster Mile plays host to new season finale for highly competitive regional
series
DOVER, Del. - The NASCAR Busch East Series has traded in twists and turns for
high banks and concrete as the series has fittingly moved its season finale to
its fastest track - the Monster Mile. The Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 race will
feature some of the youngest and brightest names in the sport along with
seasoned veterans who are each hungry to take home their very own monster trophy
in the "Sunoco 150."
2007 championship contenders, 17-year-old rookie Joey Logano and veteran Matt
Kobyluck, will race along side 2006 champion Mike Olsen, Sean Caisse, Jeffrey
Earnhardt, Peyton Sellers, Matt Kobyluck and others in the Sunoco 150,
traditionally known for its fierce, late-race battles. There have been six
different race winners in six NASCAR Busch East Series races at the Monster Mile
- and this year the stakes are raised.
Along with the NASCAR Busch East Series crown, the monster trophy has become a
highly coveted prize for drivers of the NASCAR Busch East Series. The unique
trophy, composed of sandstone, a granite-like material, stands approximately 20
inches tall and features a mirrored base that is designed to glow in the
sunlight.
But capturing this rock solid trophy is no easy task at Dover, as five of the
last six NASCAR Busch East Series races have finished with a margin of victory
of less than one second.
At the conclusion of this year's Sunoco 150, Victory Lane will be packed with
championship excitement as both the race winner and series champion will be
awarded their prizes. The championship driver and team will then be honored at a
private hospitality event hosted by NASCAR later that evening at the Speedway.
Martin Truex Jr., winner of the June 4, 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at
Dover, is a NASCAR Busch East Series alumnus. Two former NEXTEL Cup competitors,
Ricky Craven and Steve Park, and Greg Zipadelli, crew chief of Tony Stewart's
No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet are also graduates of the popular, highly
competitive regional series.
An inexpensive Friday, Sept. 21 ticket to the Sunoco 150 NASCAR Busch East
Series race gives race fans their only opportunity to see all three NASCAR
series on the track at Dover. The full schedule features NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
practice and qualifying, Busch Series practice, and Busch East Series qualifying
and the race, scheduled for a 4:45 p.m. start.
Tickets are still available for the entire Sept. 21-23 weekend and can be
purchased by calling 800-441-RACE or online at DoverSpeedway.com.

America's Got Talent finalist Julienne Irwin to perform National Anthem prior to
the start of the Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover on Sept. 23, 2007
DOVER, Del. - Julienne Irwin's got natural talent. The Bel Air, Md. native
demonstrated it as a finalist on the second season of NBC's America's Got
Talent, television's highest rated summer program. She will perform the National
Anthem prior to the start of the "Dodge Dealers 400" NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series
race at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007.
Her popularity has blossomed since being featured as a finalist on America's Got
Talent. Recently, she sang the National Anthem at a Bowie Baysox game in Bowie,
Md. and she is scheduled to perform at Camden Yards in Baltimore prior to the
Orioles game on Sept. 9. Her largest live performance yet will come before the
start of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at the Monster Mile.
"I'm excited about singing the National Anthem at Dover," said Irwin. "Dover is
close to home and it's a privilege to be invited to sing at such a huge sporting
event. I was always aware that millions of people were watching when I was on
the show, but it'll be really special to perform on stage in front of well over
100,000 race fans."
Irwin, 14, stated that she has never performed publicly prior to her appearance
on America's Got Talent and that she has never received any vocal lessons. Her
duet performance of "Teardrops on My Guitar" with 17-year-old country singer
Taylor Swift on the final episode of the show captured the attention of many,
even though she did not win the $1 million prize. She finished fourth.
Irwin is currently an eighth grade student at Harford Christian School in
Darlington, Md., and recently became class president.
Tickets are still available for the entire Sept. 21-23 weekend and can be
purchased by calling 800-441-RACE or online at DoverSpeedway.com.

NASCAR Racing At Delaware
NASCAR is an organization which authorizes a large number of motor sports racing
series. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has sanctioned major
racing series like the Craftsman Truck Series, tThe Busch Series and the NEXTEL
Cup. There are over a thousand races sanctioned by NASCAR, in over a hundred
race tracks in America. The headquarters of NASCAR are in Daytona Beach,
Florida. The other main offices are in Charlotte and New York City.
NASCAR was established in 1948 by William France, Sr. The first event was held
on February 15, at Daytona Beach. This was the Modified division race and was
won by Red Byron. Since that day, the NASCAR racing scene has grown by leaps and
bounds. With more racing series being added, more tracks were also built to keep
up with the popularity of these races.
Dover International Speedway At Delaware
In Delaware, the Dover International Speedway, was completed in 1969, and has
been hosting several NASCAR races ever since. It is an oval shaped track with a
length of one mile. A large number of races have been held there since 1969.
Most of the drivers who won races at the Dover International Speedway went on to
were winners or would go on to be winners in the top championship series of
NASCAR. Some of such drivers them were between 1969 and 1980 were David Pearson,
Darrell Waltrip and Richard Petty.
From 1982 to 1988, more seats were added to the Dover track to ensure a bigger
capacity. This proved to be effective in getting more spectators to come for the
races and making Cup races more popular. Today the seating capacity at the track
is 140,000. In 1995, the Dover International Speedway was the first track that
which was changed converted to be completely concrete. Till date, the white
concrete track has the most is unique look amongst all the bigger race tracks
which are mostly asphalt tracks. This white concrete track influenced some fans
to give it the nickname "White Lightning".
In 2001, the Dover track was the host to the first Cup race to be held after the
9/11 attacks. Dale Earnhardt won that memorable race. The Dover International
Speedway, also known as the "Monster Mile" has hosted several major NASCAR
series, the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch series and the Craftsman Truck Series as well.
Dover Speedway Track Records
There have been several NASCAR race records at the Dover track. Way back in
1997, Mark Martin won the NEXTEL Cup race with a record which is yet to be
equaled. Similarly, Dale Earnhardt set a record in the Busch series in 1998,
which nobody has yet broken at the Dover track. Mark Martin made another record
in the Truck race in 2006. This year the Busch Cup and the NEXTEL Cup series are
scheduled to be held at Dover in September.
Residents of Dover in Delaware have the pleasure of being able to witness the
major NASCAR racing events at Dover International Speedway. Even NASCAR fans
from other states come to Delaware to attend races at the venue to see cars
speed down the white concrete "Monster Mile".

Dover International Speedway and World Access to offer event ticket insurance,
and greater peace of mind, to race fans
The Monster Mile pioneers this coverage option for its NASCAR-sanctioned events
DOVER, Del. - July 10, 2007 - If an event at the Monster Mile is postponed due
to weather - as it was for the June 3, 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race - fans
who opt for event ticket insurance can now take comfort knowing that they will
receive a full refund if they must work on the date of the rescheduled event.
The new insurance option, provided by World Access, provides greater peace of
mind and offers a full refund of the purchase price if the Dover ticket holder
cannot attend the event for a number of unforeseen personal, medical or travel
reasons.
Dover International Speedway leads the way by becoming the first motorsports
venue hosting NASCAR-sanctioned events to offer this level of service and
protection for its fans. The insurance may be used for all NASCAR events held at
Dover International Speedway, including the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR
Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and NASCAR Busch East Series races.
All add-on fan hospitality options at Dover, like the Monster Mile Club and Blue
Crew Premium Seating, may also be insured.
"We realize that fans choosing to attend NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events are making a
significant entertainment investment in time and money, along with some assumed
risk," said Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Motorsports, Inc. "This
new option from World Access allows our fans to feel secure about their ticket
purchase, knowing that they will not experience a financial loss if they can't
get to a race for a covered reason. This is an excellent feature that will
enable them to purchase their Dover tickets in advance, with confidence."
All Dover fans will have the opportunity to add the event ticket insurance to
their September 21-23, 2007 race tickets, beginning in late-July 2007. For more
information, visit www.DoverSpeedway.com or by call the ticket office at
800-411-RACE.
Dover International Speedway is partnering with World Access, a leading
insurance and assistance company, to provide this coverage. World Access
supplies the travel industry, financial institutions and healthcare companies
with a wide variety of customized travel insurance and assistance services.
The event ticket insurance is available for 5% of your total purchase, with a
$6.25 minimum. If a medical issue, a traffic accident, a mechanical breakdown,
or any of the other covered categories prevent the insured from attending an
event, 100% of the ticket price, including shipping fees, is returned to the
covered person.
Dover fans who choose the event ticket insurance will receive reimbursement from
World Access for their total purchase in the case of:
* Work obligation - if your employer requires you to work during the event.
* Illness or serious injury - preventing the ticket holder from being able to
attend an event.
* Care for a family member - serious injury to a family member, requiring the
ticket holder to provide care.
* Traffic accidents - which could delay or prevent the ticket holder from
getting to an event.
* Mechanical breakdown - if your car breaks down within 48 hours of the event.
* Airline delay - if your plane or other common carrier is delayed (includes bad
weather) while going to the event.
* Home or business issues - if your home or business is uninhabitable due to
fire, flood, vandalism, burglary or natural disaster.
* Felonious assault - if the ticket holder is the victim of a felonious assault
within 10 days of the event.
* Employer termination - providing the ticket holder protection against a lay
off.
* Jury duty - if the ticket holder is required to serve on jury duty after
having purchased an event ticket.
* Work relocation - if you are relocated by your company over 100 miles from
your home.
* Military duty - if the ticket holder is required to miss an event as a result
of military orders.
The three other Dover Motorsports, Inc. venues - Gateway International Raceway,
Memphis Motorsports Park and Nashville Superspeedway - will soon provide this
same insurance option for their events.
Tickets are still available for the entire Sept. 21-23, 2007 Dover International
Speedway race weekend and can be obtained by visiting

Lt. Governor's Challenge returns to Dover International Speedway
Lt. Governor John C. Carney, Jr. invites all Delawareans to take a victory lap
of their own as Dover International Speedway opens the "Monster Mile" for
Delawareans to burn a little shoe rubber. The free fun walk will take place at
Dover International Speedway on Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 12 noon.
The Challenge, which Carney started five years ago, has had over 35,000 people
make the commitment to improved physical health. The Challenge was created to
help make Delawareans aware that being more physically active doesn't mean
countless hours at the gym. "The Challenge isn't about running a marathon or
becoming a power lifter," Carney said. "It's about having a good time with
family and friends. I can't think of a better place to get some physical
activity while having fun than at a state landmark like Dover International
Speedway.
Participants in the Lt. Governor's Challenge accumulate points by completing any
of a wide variety of daily activities. After three months, participants are
awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal based on the number of points they
earned. Participants use an official Challenge logbook to track their progress.
This is the fourth year Dover International Speedway has hosted the Lt.
Governor's Challenge.
"We are pleased to again welcome the Lt. Governor's Challenge to the Monster
Mile," said Gary Camp, director of public relations for Dover International
Speedway. "The Lt. Governor's Challenge provides participants with a unique
opportunity to traverse the same one-mile, high-banked concrete oval that just
days earlier played host to NASCAR's top drivers."

NEWS RELEASE

Dover International Speedway
June 6, 2007
Velocity exceeds expectations at Dover International Speedway
Victor DeFelice, Mike Havas and Pete Lesoine have been coming to Dover
International Speedway for quite a few years. Never before, however, have they
sat in their seats while Ray Evernham talked about his motorsports program just
two feet in front of them.
That was the case on Sunday morning as the group enjoyed Velocity, Dover's
newest luxury seating option for individual fans. The suite, located in the
track's new skybox expansion atop the frontstretch grandstand, wowed the 90
people who were fortunate enough to secure tickets to experience its inaugural
weekend.
A ticket to Velocity includes admission to the suite for all three days of a
race weekend, unlimited and high-end food and beverages, a garage tour on
Sunday, VIP parking, dedicated elevators and private restrooms, and a schedule
of appearances by track and NASCAR personnel. There are flat-screen, plasma
televisions throughout the air-conditioned suite - even in the restrooms - and
the suite itself offers an unparalleled view of the entire track, especially pit
road and the frontstretch.
Even before they arrived, Velocity ticket holders received a special package by
mail that included their credentials for the race weekend, a Velocity branded
polo shirt and lanyard, along with a special-edition chronograph.
"Everything here is top-notch," said DeFelice, of Westport, Conn., who runs a
plumbing supply company with Lesoine and brought Havas, one of their customers.
"You're treated special as soon as you come in the door. The hospitality has
been great and the food is outstanding. There's no better way to watch a race
than in this comfort."
"The personnel are just super friendly, polite, and they're genuine," Lesoine
said.
"How can you come here without having this?" Havas added.
Patrons of the suite enjoyed an omelet bar on Sunday morning, as well as great
food throughout the weekend that ranged from jumbo shrimp to wild boar, and
everything in between. There's an open bar throughout the weekend and it's
served by an in-seat beverage service.
At the other end of the suite, Ted Wachtmeister of Warrenton, Va. was
celebrating his 60th birthday a few weeks late and Father's Day a few weeks
early. His wife Karen, sons Eric and Carl, and their wives, all came out for
that purpose.
"I was looking for a birthday and Father's Day present that the boys and I could
give them," Karen said. "None of us had been to a NEXTEL Cup race, but he had
been. I went to Dover's website and just caught the Velocity club thing up
there, and thought 'Hey, that looks cool'. We'd done a paddock club for an F1
race in Italy before, and it worked well. So I called the boys and said 'What do
you think', and we all agreed it would be great."
Ted was especially appreciative of their choice.
"It's very nice, because I'm a little handicapped - I have a muscle disease, and
Karen just had her knee replaced four months ago," he said. "With the elevator
to get up here, and to be able to sit and not have to climb up stands, this has
been absolutely fantastic. The service up here has been impeccable."
The group thoroughly enjoyed watching the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and NASCAR
Busch Series races on Friday and Saturday.
"If you want, you can go outside to the other end and hear all the sounds," Ted
said. "And when you're in here, it's nice and cool and you don't have to wear
earplugs or anything, and you have all the TV coverage of the race."
The general consensus around the suite is that it might be tough to go back to
the old ways of watching a race.
"We come to a lot of races," DeFelice said, "And it's difficult to think about
having to go back to watching a race outside."
Dover has a long list of ticket options, including Velocity, on sale now for the
September 21-23 race weekend. For more information or to purchase tickets, call

Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4
NASCAR today announced that the Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup Series race has been postponed and will be held on Monday, June 4,
2007. Grandstands will open at 9:00 a.m. with the green flag scheduled to fly at
12:00 p.m.
A steady rain held the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup cars on pit road and the fans
underneath the grandstands for most of the afternoon. The announcement came 30
minutes after the jet-dryer trucks attempted to dry the track, but a steady rain
dampend any chance of the cars actually taking to the Speedway.
When the 43-car field finally rolls of the grid on Monday afternoon, Ryan Newman
will lead Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Bobby Labonte to the starting line to kickoff
the Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa.
Parking at the Speedway will be free of charge on Monday, June 4. All Sunday
tickets will be honored at the gates. A ticket or ticket stub is required for
admission. Tickets can be purchased on Monday at the main ticket office and at
Gate 4. The Will Call, at Gate 4, will be open until 1 p.m.

May 31, 2007
Dover International Speedway, Delaware Dept. of Transportation and law
enforcement officials are prepared for the June 1-3, 2007 race weekend, and
influx of race fans
DOVER, Del. - It's race time - and Dover International Speedway, the Delaware
Dept. of Transportation, Delaware State Police, and City of Dover Police are
prepared for the influx of visitors that come along with the upcoming June 1-3,
2007 event weekend.
Race weekend brings approximately 250,000 visitors to the City of Dover for each
tripleheader NASCAR race weekend. To help alleviate the stress of getting to the
big race, Dover International Speedway suggests the following:
-- Ride the DART First State's Race Express Bus from the Blue Hen Corporate
Center on US 113 and get to Dover International Speedway in just 12 minutes!
Park at the Blue Hen Corporate Center for only $20.00 per car, and everyone in
your vehicle can ride the bus to and from the race track for free. Service will
begin at 8:00 AM and will operate until 1 hour after the race.
-- From New Castle County and points north, fans will want to consider DART
First State's Race Express Bus from the Christiana Mall Park & Ride, located off
of exit 4A of I-95. The Race Express Bus departs from the Christiana Mall at
7:30 AM, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. After the race, the
Express Bus will take you to the Blue Hen Corporate Center. From there the
shuttle will IMMEDIATELY take you back to Christiana Mall. The cost per person
is $10.00 round-trip, exact change only, with children 46" in height or under
riding for free.
-- Mass transit is encouraged, and those that opt for this route reap the
benefits. Buses are permitted to use the emergency exits off of Route 1, which
provides them with direct access to the back of the property and the Dover
International Speedway bus lots.
To help coordinate what is one of the largest logistical challenges in the
state, officials from Dover International Speedway, DelDoT, DART, the Delaware
State Police, and the City of Dover Police meet on a monthly basis throughout
the year. These meetings result in comprehensive traffic plans to identify
control points and traffic flow. Officials stress that patience and proper
planning are paramount when traveling to and from the track.
Other interesting logistical facts regarding race weekend:
-- DART park-n-rides from Christiana and Dover transport approx. 14,000 fans to
the racetrack.
-- Approximately 75 DART employees drive, load and facilitate the park-n-ride.
-- Approximately 100 local law enforcement officers assist in ushering traffic
into the Speedway's parking areas.
-- More than 50 DelDot employees handle race day traffic signals, messaging,
barriers and crosswalks.
-- Dover International Speedway hires approximately 200 temporary employees to
help facilitate parking on the property.
-- Total Speedway grounds encompass 760 acres, and can accommodate 3,500 RVs.
Tickets are still available for the June 1-3, 2007 NASCAR race weekend. For more
information or to purchase tickets, call 800-441-RACE, or visit

June 3, 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway to be
named the “Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa”
DOVER, Del. – Dover International Speedway announced today that the June 3, 2007
NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup Series race will be named the “Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa.”
Autism
Speaks is an organization dedicated to increasing understanding and knowledge of
autism
spectrum disorders; to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments
and cure for
autism; and to advocating for the needs of affected families.
“Thanks to Visa’s commitment, this event marks the first time a NASCAR NEXTEL

entitlement has been dedicated to a not‐for‐profit organization,” said Mark

of sales & marketing for Dover Motorsports, Inc. “Millions of fans watching the
race on Fox
around the country, along with our loyal fan base here at the track in Dover,
will be exposed to
the ‘Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa’ messaging. The end result will be
increased
awareness, and additional funds, to assist the many important initiatives of
Autism Speaks.”
From now until June 1, Dover International Speedway will donate $5 to Autism
Speaks from
each ticket purchased with a Visa card for the June 3 “Autism Speaks 400
presented by Visa”

“We are very grateful to Visa and Dover International Speedway for this
unprecedented
opportunity to increase awareness of autism, a global health crisis now
affecting 1 in 150
individuals,” said Mark Roithmayr, President of Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is
committed to
funding scientific research to understand the causes of autism and to develop
improved
treatments. We are proud to work with Visa and Dover, driving together toward
the cure.”
Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a personʹs ability to
communicate and develop
social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges.
Autism
spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States,
affecting four
times as many boys as girls. The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in
the last decade.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national
public health
crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.

Jamie McMurray to race special paint scheme in Dover to raise awareness and
funds for
autism
CONCORD, N.C. ‐ One year ago at Dover International Speedway, Jamie McMurray led
95 of
the raceʹs closing 98 laps, only to be passed by teammate Matt Kenseth with
three laps
remaining.
McMurray went on to finish with a season‐best second place. This year, McMurray
and the No.
26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion hope to be leading when the checker flag drops on the
ʺAutism
Speaks 400 presented by Visa.ʺ McMurray, who has been one of the most vocal
spokesmen for
autism awareness in the sport of NASCAR, hopes to bring a lot more attention to
the cause this
weekend with a new autism‐themed paint scheme, firesuit, helmet and gloves.
ʺI went to Crown Royal a few weeks ago and asked them how I can do more in
support of the
Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa,ʺ said McMurray. ʺI had the idea of wearing
a different
firesuit and helmet in the race and then auctioning them off after and have all
of the funds go
towards the Jamie McMurray Foundation, which supports autism research, education
and
families afflicted with autism. Needless to say, Crown Royal was very supportive
and backed
us completely.ʺ
Crown Royal even went further and changed the look of the No. 26 Ford Fusion for
this
weekendʹs race at Dover International Speedway. The sides, front and rear of the
No. 26 Crown
Royal Ford Fusion will be outfitted with the well‐known autism puzzle piece
design.

ʺWe know how important this race is to Jamie, so we wanted to go the extra mile
to help out,ʺ
said Jim Lorenz, senior brand manager, Crown Royal. ʺWhen we first started
working with
Jamie, it was clear how much passion he has for this cause and we want to do our
part to join in
the effort to raise money and awareness. After we found out the race would be
entitled the
Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa, we wanted to help Jamie in any way we
could.ʺ
Along with the special paint scheme on the No. 26 Ford Fusion, McMurray will
also don a new
firesuit, helmet and gloves ‐ all of which will be outfitted with the Autism
puzzle piece design.
Following the race, all of these special items will be auctioned off on Speed
Channelʹs website
(www.speedtv.com) with the proceeds going to benefit the Jamie McMurray
Foundation.
Heading into this weekend, McMurray, along with a handful of NASCAR drivers,
will
participate in the Drive for Autism Research Golf Tournament in Wilmington, Del.
The golf
tournament is organized by Artie Kempner of FOX Sports, with the proceeds of the
tournament
being split between the foundations of McMurray and Elliott Sadler.
ʺItʹs great to be paired up with Artie and Elliott for this weekʹs golf event.
This golf tournament
continues to grow in popularity and it raises a lot of money for autism, which
is the most
important part,ʺ McMurray said.
This Sunday morning at the Dover International Speedway media center, McMurray
will be
presenting Autism Speaks with a charitable donation. The presentation is set to
begin at 9:30
a.m.
