Camp Barnes Returns To Delaware For 33rd Annual Benefit
Delmar, DE…..The annual running of the Delaware State Police Camp Barnes Benefit will celebrate the thirty-third year of the benefit June 29, 2005 (rain date June 30) at the Delaware International Speedway. Each year several drivers return from all over the North east circuits to run with the Delaware regulars. Drivers support this event with some great side by side, wheel to wheel, and door to door racing action to support the cause.
All proceeds are raised for the Camp Barnes, Inc. a camp for youths between the ages of 10 - 13 years old to attend the camp at no cost to the parent or guardian. The camp provides numerous benefits to youths learning basic tools to use in everyday trades. For any information contact Det. Preston Lewis 302.856.5860 ext. 301. Support the benefit and make sure to take in a family night of fun.
Over the later years Lewis has increased drivers purses through donations of many local businesses and sponsors to begin to match the purse and lap money to the number of years the camp has been in existence. Just as this year will be $3300 for the Modifieds and this year for the first time the Late Models will receive $3300. In addition to the purse for a win, sponsors have also matched the $33 for each lap lead. Lewis hopes to match the Late Models and Modifieds each year to come.
The powerful big block Modifieds, mighty Late Models, whipping Street Modifieds, impressive AC Delco TSS Modified, and the lightening Modifieds Lites will all take to the track that night; so what a show it always turns out to be. The North verses the Delaware guys and you don’t want to miss the hot action in the fastest clay half mile oval in Delaware.
Also, the famous shoot out with the top qualifying cars in Late Model vs. Modified 12 lap shoot out will return. It is not often you get to see both classes on the track at the same time and competing. The top five finishers from Big Block & Late Models feature winners qualify to run in this event. At the end of lap 6 – the race will be yellowed flagged. The last five cars in running order will be eliminated. The remaining 5 cars re-draw for final six laps of racing.
Last years winners included Kevin Hirthler, Gary Stuhler, Mark Williams, Rodney Cordrey, and Erik McKinney all wanting to reclaim those wins. Can they do it or not? A must go to see who will hold on to the title.
So get out and support the Delaware State Police on June 29 with gates opening 5:00 PM with racing starting at 7. Admission is only $12 for spectators and $20 for the pits, children 10 and under free. See you at the track!
