FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Freedom Fighters 50 goes to Banal; Stambaugh, Anderson,
Britton and Wantz winners at Wayne County Speedway
By Ryan Pearson
Orrville, Ohio-The action at Wayne County Speedway was
non stop Saturday night from a car giveaway to door
handle to door handle three wide racing. Richard Horn of
Wooster, Ohio had the lucky ticket and got to drive home
in a 1987 convertible Corvette. For the first time in
nearly a month Mother Nature shined down on a packed
grandstand and pits full of race cars. And she was
treated to a great show.
The Freedom Fighters 50 is the salute to our public
safety officials who risk their lives everyday serving
our country. It got started with Scotty Peltz leading
the stout field of American Payroll Advance Super Late
Models to the green flag. It was short lived as
Millersburg Ohio’s Keith Berner took the early lead. The
caution flag flew on lap 3 for a Thomas Baker spinout.
When the racing resumed the top three cars of Berner,
Peltz and George Lee remained the same, but through the
field the racing was intense. Fifteenth starting Mark
Banal was up to ninth place. At the front of the pack
Berner pulled away from the field; but another caution
on lap 14 for the cars of Baker and Mark Bellamy getting
together. Lap 14 found Banal up to sixth place and hard
charging for more. The green flag dropped and Berner
took off like a rocket, but another caution flew on lap
17 for Chet Alexander stopping with a flat tire. Banal
had moved up to second place before the caution flag
flew and seventh starting Ryan Markham had moved to
third. When the green flag dropped Banal didn’t waste
anytime attempting to make a move on Berner. Banal
hooked the high side and blew past Berner. Berner didn’t
give up as he shoved the nose under Banal every lap. The
leaders hit lapped traffic on lap 28. On lap 32 Banal
slipped high and Berner darted by. On lap 35 Banal
changed lines and zipped underneath Berner coming off of
turn 4. Banal had to with stand a couple of late race
assaults by Berner as he could pull along side Banal,
just couldn’t compete the pass. Banal was the first to
the checkered flag. He was followed by Berner, Markham,
Doug Drown, 12th starting Shane McLoughlin, Scotty Peltz,
Dave Hornikel, Eric ‘Spud’ Myers and JR Gentry. Markham,
Drown and Hornikel won heat races and Peltz won the
dash. Myers set fast time and Charlie Duncan won the
Consolation race.
In the RPM Motorsports Modified division it was a nine
car Talladega like pileup on the opening lap that
brought the field to the a red flag. The track was
cleared and the green flag would drop. Rob Stambaugh
jumped to the point and wouldn’t look back. Mike Lonas
would hound Stambaugh every lap, it wouldn’t be enough
as Stambaugh took the checkered flag. He was followed by
Lonas, Matt Shroyer, Took Wiles and Bruce Miller. Heat
race winners were Rory Reed and Rocky Kugel. Shroyer won
the Dash and Larry Kugel won the Consolation race.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stock division it
was Rick Frame taking the early lead. Last weeks feature
winner didn’t waste anytime as he powered past Frame to
take the lead. It was all Anderson as he bested Fred
Snyder who finished second. He was followed by Tim
Myers, Rich Frame and Travis Mensching. Frame was the
dash winner. Jose Marsh and Jim Nicely took the heat
race wins. Paul Holmes won the Consolation race.
In the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stocks it was Neil
Nisly taking the early lead. He would reluctantly hand
over the top spot to Henry Britton. Britton would take
advantage and run from the filed. Jeff Theil would make
a late race charge but came up a little short. At the
line it was Britton, Jeff Theil, Nisly, Dale Beckett,
Jr. and rounding out the top five is Josh Robinson. Heat
race winners were Charlie Ray and Mitch Reichard. Nisly
won the Dash.
The 2005 WCS faster pastor grand finale was also on tap.
The round winners squared off against each other with
the winner crowned the Fastest Pastor. Pastor Glen
Coblentz would take the early lead. He was hounded by
Pastor Doug Wantz lap after lap. Wantz or Coblentz
wouldn’t budge. With a daring late race barrage Wantz
snuck by Coblentz for the lead to take the checkered
flag. He was followed by Pastor Coblentz, Pastor Mark
Sarver, Pastor Bryan Phillips, Pastor Bryan Miller and
Pastor Matt Phillips.
WCS again ends with a bang as the racing program
concludes all scheduled racing until next spring. WCS is
located nine miles east of Wooster, OH or 15 miles west
of Massillon, OH on US Route 30 then one mile north on
Carr Road. For more information contact: 330.682.7435

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Chase for the Championships winds down at Wayne County Speedway
By Ryan Pearson
Orrville, Ohio-The Chase for the Championships is coming to a close because this Saturday August 20th is the season championships for the American Payroll Advance Super Late Models at Wayne County Speedway. August 27th the Chase for the Championships concludes for the RPM Motorsports Modifieds, The Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks and the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stocks.
In the American Payroll Advance Super Late Model division Orrville Ohio native Doug Drown holds a 52 point lead over three time track champion Ryan Markham. Drown has been Mr. Consistency as he has only one feature win this year, but only finished out of the top five one time. Markham has 6 feature wins for 2005 and has slightly closed the gap to the top spot the last several weeks. Sitting third with one feature win for 2005 is Fredricksburg native Dave Wirt. A couple of weeks ago Wirt sustained heavy damage to his rocket chassis. In the fourth position is George Lee, Lee has finished 6th twice out of the last three weeks. It’s a close battle of the fifth position as JR Gentry currently holds it down. Gentry has put together several solid runs recently. He is shadowed by Clint Coffman who sits 12 points behind Gentry, waiting to pounce if the opportunity arises.
In the RPM Motorsports Modified division its Creston Ohio native Took Wiles with a 128 point lead over David Liles. Wiles, who took the past three years off after a successful Late Model and Pro Stock career; is in his first year racing in the RPM Motorsports Modified division. He has visited victory lane 4 times this year. Liles has one feature win this year at the Mid Season Championships, which gave him a bonus of double points. Sitting third the 2004 RPM Motorsports Modified Champion Larry Kugel 12 points out of second, Kugel has finished in the top five 6 times this year. A pair of former Pure Stock guys in their first year racing in the RPM Motorsports Modified division sits forth and fifth. Rory Reed has been consistent this year, as he is 22 points out of third. Not too far behind Reed is Mitchell Lam. Lam is the 2004 Thrifty Discount Muffler Track Champion. His best finish this is a 4th place on June 26th.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stock division it is Lodi Ohio native Troy Anderson leading the way with a 86 point lead over Fred Snyder. Anderson is a three time track champion at Wayne County Speedway, so there is no question he knows how to get around the 3/8s mile speedway. Anderson has notched 7 wins for 2005. The battle for second is going down to the wire as Snyder sits 8 points ahead of Todd Werntz. 8 points equals a few positions on the race track. Werntz is in his first year racing his 57 Chevy. Currently fourth is Tim Myers. Myers known for running the high side has finished in the top five 6 times this year. Sitting in the fifth place is Millersburg Ohio native Keith Tish. He has put together a solid year, but this past week had motor trouble in hot laps before rain washed out the nights racing.
In the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stock division it is Killbuck Ohio native Dale Beckett who holds a 84 point lead over second place. Beckett has 4 feature wins in 2005 and 4 second place finishes. Currently sitting in second place is Henry Britton. Britton has 6 feature wins and several second place finishes. He has rebounded well for not racing the first week of the season. With several solid finishes under his belt just 38 points out of second is Jeff Theil. He has 4 third place finishes for 2005. The 2004 runner up in the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stock division currently is fourth, 54 points out of third place. And rounding out the top five is Springville Ohio native Bradley Hensel. He has 2 third place finishes, and has had several strong runs this year.
This Saturday August 20th will be the season championships for the American Payroll Advance Super Late Models. Also on tap will the RPM Motorsports Modifieds, Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks and the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stocks, which all will be points races for those divisions. Racing will be sponsored by WQKT 104.5 FM ‘Sports Country’. The fourth and final qualifying leg for the exciting faster pastor series will be on the card this week. Markham, Brown, Anderson and Britton victorious at Wayne
County Speedway
By Ryan Pearson
Orrville, Ohio-Wayne County Speedway opened the gates and
treated the packed grandstand of fans to a night of exciting
racing for fan appreciation night. The racing was sponsored by
Federated Auto Parts and WQKT 104.5 FM ‘Sports Country’.
In the American Payroll Advance Super Late Model division it
was Doug Drown jumping out to the early lead. The caution flew
on lap four; Dave Wirt took a tumble over the guardrail in
turn 3 rolling the Rocket chassis twice. He was uninjured. On
the restart Drown jumped out front with Ryan Markham, Brad
Malcuit and ninth starting Matt Lux in tow. Drown pulled away
from Markham but his lead was erased, as he started picking
his way through lapped traffic when another caution flew on
lap 16 for Clint Coffman who had stopped on the track. When
the green flag again waved Markham pressured Drown on the high
side of the racetrack. He hung the Rocket chassis on the edge
where he competed the pass on lap 17. Drown then battled back
on the bottom of the race track. Both race cars ran door
handle to door handle, trading paint on a few occasions. The
caution flag would wave on lap 23 for Randy Scott, George Lee
and DJ Miller. All three would return to the pits, with Scott
racecar sustaining heavy front end damage from hitting the
guardrail on the front straightaway. It was all Markham the
rest of the way. He was followed by Drown, Malcuit, Lux and
Alexander rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to
Alexander, Coffman and the Dash win went to Drown. Wirt set
fast time.
It was the third week in a row that and sixth time total that
Markham placed the Park Ohio, Advance Cylinder, Biscottis
Restaurant, Stu's Place, J & D Door Company, Bert
Transmission; Malcuit powered Rocket Chassis in victory lane.
“It took my Rocket chassis a little to come in there, but when
it did she was gone” stated an ecstatic Markham after the
races.
In the RPM Motorsports division Kyle Brown jumped out to the
early lead. The yellow flag would fly on the first lap for
Cory Camillo who lost the handle in turn 2. On the restart
Brown would bolt to the lead. He would receive a heavy assault
from Rob Stambaugh. Stambaugh would look to the outside of
Brown then dive to the inside trying all he could to make the
pass. Another caution would wave on lap 11 for a massive pile
up in turn two. Once cleared up, the green flag waved and
again Brown zipped out front. Stambaugh wouldn’t give up as he
continued to hound Brown. It just wasn’t enough as Brown came
home the winner. He was followed by Stambaugh, Matt Shroyer,
Bruce Miller and Took Wiles. Heat race winners were Jay Howe
and Miller and winning the dash was Brown. Setting fast time
was Wiles.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks it was Fred Snyder
blitzing to the lead. He would hold off a fierce onslaught
from Tim Myers and Troy Anderson for several laps. But a cut
tire would force Snyder to slip back some and contact between
another car resulted in Snyder spinning out in turn 3 on lap
5. Snyder headed pitside to change the tire and returned to
the track on the tail. The shakeup at the top moved Myers to
the point where he would be followed by Anderson. On lap 10
Anderson would motor past Myers for the lead, where he
wouldn’t look back. He was followed by Myers, Jose Marsh,
Donna Gentry and Todd Werntz rounded out the top five. Heat
race wins went to Marsh and Jim Nicely and Snyder won the
dash. Anderson set the quick time.
In the Federated Auto Parts Mini Stock division it was Henry
Britton jumping to the early lead. Last weeks feature winner
Brandon Morrow dropped in line to run second but the caution
would fly for Morrow on lap 3 with mechanical problems. The

again was all Britton as he powered away from the competition.
He would take the checkers for the sixth time this year. He
was followed by Beckett, Jeff Theil, Nick Smith and Josh
Robinson. Trevor Phillips and Nick Smith won heat races and
Britton won the dash. Morrow set fast time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Markham, Anderson, Wiles, Morrow and Phillips winners at Wayne County Speedway
Orrville, Ohio-Saturday night July 30th Wayne County Speedway opened the gates and filled the grandstands and packed the pits full of race cars as over 100 cars signed in. The racing was sponsored by WQKT 104.5 FM ‘Sports Country’.
The third leg of the exciting faster pastor series is in the books. It was Pastor Brian Phillips from the Wyandott Freewill Baptist Church jumping out to the early lead. He pushed the Ford Escort Mini Stock hard the opening laps to extend a large lead enabling him to cruise to victory. He joins Pastor Wantz and Pastor Coblentz as qualifying 2005 faster pastors. The grand finale is scheduled for September 3, 2005. Over 1,500 food items have been collected to date for charity with the faster pastor program.
In the American Payroll Advance Super Late Models it was Ryan Markham and Eric ‘Spud’ Myers dueling it out the opening laps. Myers slipped by Markham to open up a sizeable lead. Myers was needling his way through lap traffic when he lost the handle bringing out the caution on lap 14. He was sent to the tail of the field. That handed the lead over to Markham. It wasn’t smooth sailing as Doug Drown pressured Markham. Drown passed Markham, only to have Markham slip back by the next circuit. As the checkers would fly it was Markham, Drown, J.R. Gentry, Myers and D.J. Miller. Dave Wirt and Dave Hornikel won heat races. Markham won the Dash and George Lee won the B-Main.
It was the fifth time this year that Markham placed the Advance Cylinder, Biscottis Restaurant, Stu's Place, J & D Door Company, Bert Transmission; Malcuit powered Rocket Chassis in victory lane.
In the RPM Motorsports Modified division is was Dave Atkinson lead the first lap but it was all Took Wiles after that as he led the next 19 laps to take the checkers. He was followed by Larry Kugel, Mike Lonas, Rocky Kugel and Kyle Brown. Rocky Kugal and Darrick Hubbard were heat race winners and Larry Kugel won the dash.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stock division it was Dundee Ohio racers Fred Snyder blasting to the lead early. He battled Todd Werntz and Troy Anderson for several laps before succumbing to Anderson and Werntz. As the checker flag waved it was Anderson, Myers, Werntz, Snyder and Keith Tish rounding out the top five. Tim Myers and Travis Mensching were heat race winners, while Werntz won the dash.
