TQ Midget “Ride for Rent” for Atlantic City Indoor Gamblers Classic

Car owners Blu Metz and Howard Boss of Easton, PA had a deal put together to put a driver in their car for the 2006 Indoor race but that deal fell through. In the interim Mike Miller posted the ride in his midget on eBay for rent. Following Mike's lead Blu decided to do the same and post the ride in the offset TQ designed by noted fabricator Bill Courtwright up for bid for the race. Courtwright will serve as crew chief for the indoor effort. The car has a potent GSXR 750 Suzuki engine and a radically offset chassis that Courtwright designed specifically for the tight indoor confines of Boardwalk Hall.

The race team will supply transportation for the car to the Atlantic City race as well as all tires, fuel, crew, entry fees for car. Everything needed for the race weekend. The winning driver only needs to show up and drive the car we will take care of everything else. This is going to be a first class effort to set fast time and win the race. We will put the winning bidder’s sponsor name and logo on the car and the driver’s name on the visor and the winning bidder gets to pick the number for the car.

We have received over 250 hits with three bids in the first 12 hours of the auction. The Auction started on December 27 and ends January 6 at 1 PM. Anyone interested can check the auction out by going to www.ebay.com  and searching “ride for rent.” Good luck and see you at the races.

                                                         Checkered Dreams at Motorsports '06

FORT WASHINGTON, PA -Checkered Dreams, a group that seeks to provide handicapped or sick children a special day at a racetrack, will be one of the official charities of Motorsports 2006 Presented by VP Racing Fuels Jan. 13-15 at the Fort Washington Expo Center.

Funds generated from a charity auction held during the show will be donated directly to the organization, which was specifically developed to give handicapped or seriously ill children a night of fun through racing. All Checkered Dreams "Day at the Races" events include an all-expense paid visit to a racetrack for the children and their families, where they can meet the drivers, receive gifts (such as a personalized trophy and a Checkered Dreams shirt), get autographs and do a "victory lap."

Ron Hubscher, along with Checkered Dreams President Sue Ziegler, will head up the group's volunteer effort at the Motorsports '06 expo. They traveled all the way to Charlotte, N.C., and picked up hundreds of donations for the auction from a wide range of NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck teams.

Along with the generous support from many NASCAR teams, the Zieglers have also managed to round up a few local donations and racing related items to help the fundraising efforts.

This is the 13th year Hubscher has run an auction during Motorsports and the second straight in which it benefits the Ziegler-founded charity.

Once again, Motorsports '06 organizer Len Sammons was instrumental in choosing Checkered Dreams to be part of this much-anticipated auction.

Many local talents will be on hand at the Checkered Dreams booth throughout the Motorsports '06 weekend to sign autographs and meet fans. The list includes Eric Beers (NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour), Don Wagner (NASCAR Busch North Series), Todd Hoddick (Northeast's winningest asphalt Late Model driver), Jackie Ziegler (rising 16-year-old asphalt Late Model driver), Shawn Reimert (2005 Central PA Speedway small-block Modified champion) and

Tyler Haydt (NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Rookie of the Year).

Ms. Mountain Speedway April Makarewicz and Ms. NEETS Cindy Bott are also scheduled to make appearances.

Autograph times at the Checkered Dreams booth will be announced.

Bids on auction items will be accepted throughout the weekend, with winners determined on Sunday.

All funds received from the auction by Checkered Dreams will be put to use throughout the Northeast, allowing ill and handicapped children and their families to experience something that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Any donations to Checkered Dreams are also more than welcomed.

For more information, please contact Sue Zeigler at suzyqst@aol.com,  or visit www.jackie88racing.com  for a complete list of the items that will be up for auction.

Mountain Speedway driver press release
For immediate release…thank you
Mountain Speedway media contact:
Gene Ostrowski gjtost@verizon.net  570-752-7193
Pictures: Mountain Speedway PR

Who said nice guys finish last??

By: Gene Ostrowski

In 1992 Jeff Rex took the modified track championship at Evergreen (Mountain Speedway) without a single feature win. That’s not saying that Jeff never contested for the win. After all, he was hounded all season long by the division runner-up, “Mr. Outside”, Don Wagner.

It all began in ’89, when a 22-year-old veteran micro stock driver from Dover, NJ, going by the named of ‘Wagner’ added his name to the Evergreen street stock roster. Not very familiar to asphalt, Wagner’s goal for the season was to gain experience, and possibly pick up a win in his Bill Fitze owned #24 Labrador Motorsports mount. His hopes of success were in question, since he had to reckon with names such as Fey, Rodriguez, Madgna, Zajak and Gallucci.

Don started his rookie street stock season off at a steady pace, learning his car and the track. Along the way he picked up many top 10 finishes. Don’s most memorable street stock moment was his first and only win of the season in only his second start. Wagner had finally found success on asphalt. This single win propelled the team to consistent top 5 finishes, earning Don the runner-up position in the final point standings. Wagner was also named the 1989 street stock rookie of the year.

During the winter months Wagner was approached by Fitze, who asked Don if he would be interested in piloting a small block modified for the 1990 campaign. We all know the answer to this one, as Labrador Motorsports showed up to the track with a used, but fresh Troyer chassis on track tech day.

Wagner and the team were off to their modified venture in ’90. Even though it seemed the team was lacking in the horsepower department that year, Don’s previous open wheel experience, combined with his patient driving, earned the team many heat wins and top 5 feature finishes. Wagner would probably laugh if asked how much he likes finishing in third place, as the majority of his feature finishes were in the third position. Ironically, he would end the season third in points, not far behind the season champion, Russ Frantz. Don was also named Evergreen’s 1990 modified rookie of the year.

By the time 1991 rolled in, the team made the decision to gain experience at other facilities, such as Wall Stadium in NJ. Wagner did the majority of his racing there in ’91.

Armed with a new, paint scheme and chassis, Labrador Motorsports made the return to Evergreen in 1992 contending for the track championship. For many weeks Wagner held the point lead that season, but lady luck didn’t always shine on the team, as it seemed every week was ‘worst or first’. But, all his moves to first were impressive, with most of his passes made on the outside groove. Don’s competitors and the track announcer tagged him with the nickname ‘Mr. Outside’.

1992 was the season when Don picked up his first Evergreen modified victory, and followed it up with five more by the season’s end. Don's final of the 6 wins in '92 came in the final 'open comp' show (now known as the 'King of the Mountain'), where he started in 23rd position as the first alternate, due to a heat race crash and a failed steering rack in the consi race. He out raced Tony Siscone in the Dick Barney famed #14 for the win from that back row starting spot. In one of the closest modified point races at Mountain, Jeff Rex edged out Wagner for the championship by a mere 37 points.

Again in ’93, Wagner would wrap up the runner-up position in the season standings and also won the Sportsman award. He would continue the following season at Evergreen finishing fourth in points. With this driver’s success in asphalt racing, Don was offered a ride in the now defunct NASCAR Sportsman division late in ’94. At the time this elite division was very similar to today’s NASCAR Busch North Series.

1995 was a standout year for this young driver in the Sportsman division. Wagner had 14 starts, with one top 5 and eight top 10 finishes. Don’s most impressive statistic is the fact that the team did not have any DNF’s the entire season! Sadly, at the end of ’95, the NASCAR Sportsman division evaporated.

Following the extinction of the Sportsman division, Wagner moved back into the modified ranks the next few seasons, racing at tracks such as Evergreen, Mahoning Valley Speedway, Flemington Speedway and Orange County Speedway. In 1998 Wagner became his own car owner with a new number (#22) and Fitze power. Wagner also competed on occasion with the Whelen NASCAR modified tour.

During ’99 and ‘00 the team ran complete seasons on the half mile at Flemington Speedway, finishing 6th and 10th respectively in the standings. Unfortunately, Flemington Speedway was shut down at the end of 2000.

Back to Mountain Speedway (formerly Evergreen Raceway) in 2001 for a limited schedule, Wagner rattled off two wins and finished 10th in the final standings. He would better that feat in 2002 with a season record of four wins. Don finished a close third in the point’s chase, where Brian Defebo topped Shawn Carrig by a mere one tally.

Near the end of 2003, owner of the #41 NASCAR Busch North Series team, James Pritchard, approached Wagner about driving for him. Wagner accepted and the team ran two races with plans to run more in 2004.

In 2004, Wagner’s focus was on running a limited schedule in the NASCAR Busch North Series, but he did pilot his #22 modified often at Mahoning Valley Speedway. Late in the summer, Don broke the track record at the speedway for the fastest lap time in a modified. Don’s success continued throughout the season with his NASCAR efforts, as he finished a career-best 14th in the Busch North event at Waterford, CT.

The following season Wagner grabbed his first RoC (Race of Champions) victory at Mahoning Valley Speedway. He raced at Mahoning Valley and Mountain Speedway, plus continued his run in the NASCAR Busch North series with signs of team improvement over the previous season. Despite a late race incident, his 13th place finish at New Hampshire is his best to date. The #41 James Pritchard Busch North team plans to run more NASCAR Busch North events next season

If you ask any driver in the pit area, Don isn’t just taken as a great driver; he is a well-respected racer, who many call a terrific person. “If any one of us need parts or a hand, Don and his guys are always there”, said Paul Frantz, whose father Russ drove a modified at Mountain Speedway for many years.

Don is not only a driver, but also a crew chief. His son, D.J. has recently begun racing micro stocks, and along with his wife Sharon, they are always there to support D.J. 100% of the way.

Keep your eyes on the Labrador Racing #22 modified, along with the James Pritchard owned #41 NASCAR Busch North entry in ‘06. There’s a saying something about things that are well overdue. Who ever coined the saying “nice guys finish last”?

Watch for Wagner at the upcoming Motorsports 2006 show presented by VP Racing Fuels at the Fort Washington Expo Center in Fort Washington, PA. Wagner will be signing autographs for the Checkered Dreams charity, at their booth on January 14th.

STRUNK AND SINON AGREE TO END LONG AND SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP

BLUE BELL, PA DECEMBER 14, 2005 . . . After a three year relationship that included three NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified championships at Grandview Speedway, a Southeast Dirt Series and Race of Champions title, car owner Chad Sinon and driver Jeff Strunk have decided to end their successful relationship.
“This is an amicable parting. It is something we have discussed and felt that perhaps we were not on the same page when it came to what we wanted to be doing with the team,” said Sinon. “This was one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make. I think that Jeff is an outstanding race driver and I am sure he will continue to be a major force in the sport. We both just feel this is the best step to take at present.”
Sinon and Strunk will be honored this Saturday, December 17th, at the annual Grandview Speedway Awards Banquet which will take place at the Kutztown, PA Fire Hall. The team earned their third straight NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified Championship and will collect close to $25,000 in point fund money for their title winning efforts.
Sinon will field three NASCAR Modified stock cars racing at Grandview Speedway in 2006. Five time track champion Craig VonDohren and young talent Ryan Watt fill two of the three seats.
BPG Racing will also continue to be involved with NASCAR Modified racers Mike Gular, John Willman and Bobby Trapper.
Additional racing plans for the Sinon backed BPG Racing race teams will be announced once schedules of area tracks and sanctioning organizations are made available.

PAUCH WANTS TO EASE MEMORIES OF NEAR-MISS IN 2005 A.C. INDOOR RACE

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, DECEMBER 10, 2005 . . . A shocking late-race spin cost short-track auto racing superstar Billy Pauch a victory in last January’s Atlantic City Indoor Race "Gambler’s Classic" finale.
The professional race car driver from Frenchtown, N.J., wants to erase memories of that painful loss when he returns to Boardwalk Hall on Jan. 20-21 for the fourth annual edition of the wintertime indoor event for Three Quarter Midgets and 600cc Micro-Sprints.
"Hopefully we can finish the job this time," said Pauch, who will enter the show for the fourth straight year in a TQ Midget fielded by division ace Don Adams of Robbinsville, N.J. "Back in January I didn’t even have a chance to enjoy being in the lead." Pauch did not lead one lap of the feature event.
Pauch, 48, appeared headed for a $5,000 win when he passed a faltering Jeff Heotzler for the lead with just two laps remaining in January’s 40-lap "Gambler’s Classic" A-Main. But seconds after surging ahead off turn two, Pauch lost control of his car and spun out of contention in the third corner.
"When I went into (turn) three I didn’t know if I had Heotzler cleared, so I didn’t want to chop him," remembered Pauch. "I wasn’t tight to the bottom getting in because of that, but I wasn’t more than a foot higher than I wanted to be.
"I don’t know if I hit oil or water, but the car just went around on me. It just happened so quickly."
The caution flag that followed Pauch’s twirl put Micro-Sprint racer Mike Dicely of Lewisberry, Pa., in the lead, but Heotzler wasn’t done. With his failing engine coming back to life during the slow laps, the dirt Modified veteran from Wallkill, N.Y., found a second wind and passed Dicely on the final lap to record a dramatic victory.
While Heotzler celebrated in Victory Lane after the race, Pauch sulked in the pit area.
"We should’ve won the big race," said Pauch, whose sparkling resume includes over 600 career feature wins in all types of race cars. "We let one slip through our fingers."
Pauch, whose 18-year-old son Billy Jr. is also interested in competing in the Indoor Race, is confident that he’ll be smiling at the end of the 2006 show. He’ll enter the event armed with Adams’s vast TQ knowledge and three years’ experience racing on the Hall’s concrete-surface oval.
"Every year we get a little better," said Pauch, who won a Friday-night "Roaring 20s" preliminary qualifier in January. "We have more notes to go by to set up the car."

Teo Fabrication Seminar Session Educates Hundreds

VERNON, NJ (December 2, 2005) -- Bobby Hearn’s Teo Fabrications, the innovators of the most dominating chassis on the dirt modified circuit, with just under 600 victories during the 2005 racing season. Who in the racing world wouldn’t be interested in gaining a little bit of the knowledge that they’ve acquired in almost thirty years of action? On Saturday, January 21, owners, drivers, and crew chiefs will have the opportunity to gain the winning edge over the competition, as Teo Fabrications hosts “Get Smart… Get Quick: An Advanced Chassis Seminar.”

The seminar starts off early at the Vernon, NJ home of Teo Fabrications, where participants are invited to browse around the fabrication shop, exploring the various parts and products offered by Teo Fabrications; and where they are created.

The assembly then moves to the luxurious Minerals Spa and Resort, where racers of all levels will gain education in an array of motorsports applications. Including: Chassis Set-up live with Bobby and Brett Hearn, Shock Selection and Adjustment presented by Bilstein Racing Shocks, Tire Preparation and Technique with Jay Castimore, Brake Adjustment and Maintenance presented by Wilwood Brakes, Marketing and Sponsorship, and a special Question and Answer Round Table with Dirt Racing’s Top Stars!

“This gives us an added opportunity to ‘give back’ to our customers,” Teo’s Bobby Hearn said. “We can help teach them some of the things we have learned, not just in the past season but in the thirty years we have been doing this.”

“Racers rarely get in a situation where they can have a lengthy in-person discussion with their chassis builder – This not only gives racers the opportunity to do that, but to also pick the brain of some of our drivers.”

On hand to display the hottest new products and answer any and all questions presented to them will be representatives from Bilstein Racing Shocks, Kirkey Racing Seats, Art’s Radiator, Wilwood Brakes, Winters Performance Products, The Joie of Seating and JD3Graphics.

In 2005, over 250 racers took part in the first annual seminar. Among them was Mike Colsten who took home the 2005 Teo Stage 2 Frame – Participants will once again be able to participate in a drawing for various door prizes including a 2006 Teo Stage 3 Frame – the same adjustable torsion rack car that has been the buzz of the industry.

Almost half of the seminar has been filled already and the other half is filling up quickly!

For more information on “Get Smart… Get Quick: An Advanced Chassis Seminar” is available by contact Teo Fabrications at 973-764-5500 or on the web at www.teopro.com  for a downloadable form that you can fax to 973-764-5510

Geiges Closes Breakout Season With a New Website

2005 proved to be a true, real-deal breakout season for sportsman wheelman Jeff Geiges. With a new 2005 Bicknell, a stout Vengeance Competition Products engine, some great sponsors and a whole lot of miles and laps, Geiges and the team have called it a year and have begun to think about what’s to come for 2006. In 2005 the team saw thousands and thousand of miles from the cab of their truck with weekly trips to both Accord Speedway in NY and New Egypt Speedway in NJ, as well as a full tour of the
newly formed ROC Sportsman Series.

In the end the team closed the season with three wins at New Egypt Speedway, a track known to have both the highest sportsman car counts and best talent in the North East, one win at Accord Speedway, a 2nd at Syracuse and a few almost wins on the ROC tour. All in, especially when compared to 2004, it was a great season.

But with the winter upon us, Jeff and the Vengeance Competition Products team are hard at work, both at trying to secure funds for the 2006 race season and trying to decide what 2006 will hold for them. Lots of ideas have been tossed around in some capacity or another. Everything from staying sportsman to going big block, to building a small block car and everything in between. But in the end, it will all depend on the
financing that can be secured and what their sponsors are interested in.

And to get things rolling for the 2006 season, a brand new website has been launched and can be viewed at www.JeffGeigesRacing.com.  There you’ll find news, photos and more. The site will be updated with new information as it’s available from the team with regards to new sponsors, 2006 plans, etc. And for the hardcore fans, you can even sign up for an email news service which will provide you with site updates, the freshest news and more!

To any parties interested in partnering with the team for the 2006 season, you can email Jeff@ThrowinItDown.com  for more information.

Thanks for your interest and support in our 2005 program and we look forward to seeing everyone at the track in 2006!

Seitz Repeats Efforts and Grabs 2005 NEMA Championship

NJ Native, Ben Seitz, once again pushed his racing abilities to the max and locked in his second straight NEMA (NorthEastern Midget Association) championship. Seitz, a product of the Hillisborough school system with his parents still residing in Skillman, put many years in locally between go karts and legend cars before making the big jump into the midgets.

Ben Seitz had a banner year in 2004 & 2005 with NEMA wheeling a 900 lb winged car powered via a hand built 162 cubic inch fuel injected engine producing above 350 + HP. These are the same cars that NASCAR brass, like Tony Stewart, prefer to drive and, in fact, does any chance he gets. Why? Because these cars, pound for pound, are some of the fastest and toughest cars to wheel around any race track, from the ¼ mile bullrings to the big mile tracks.

In 2004 Ben grabbed 4 wins and 7 hard charger awards in just 12 races.  Along with those fine stats came a well deserved NEMA Championship and a place in the NEMA history books. And making it even more special, Ben had not won a NEMA event prior to his stellar 2004 season as his first two seasons were plagued with heartbreaks and motor problems. The 2005 Season ended with 5 win’s, 4 - 2nd’s, 3-4th’s, 1-5th’, with 2 dnf’s (14th, & 15th)..That’s 13 top  5’s out of 15 races. Most would’ve killed for a single win and a few top 5’s due to the grueling competition the
series carries.

The 2005 season, unlike 2004, saw Seitz fight for the championship down to the final lap of the final race. Motor woes plagued the team at several oints throughout the year but with the backing of his car owner, Pete Valeri, and major sponsors Cape Cod Aggregates and Valeri Construction, the team pushed on. Seitz went into that final race with just a two point lead over crafty veteran and well known driver Joey Payne, another NJ resident. But in the end it was Seitzedging Payne for both the victory that day and for the championship! All in all, a hard fought but well earned battle  that even further solidified the now Monument Beach, MA resident’s name in both the NEMA record book and in the world of motorsports in general.

With the 2005 season down, Seitz will now turn his focus to 2006 to see what comes up. Currently Seitz is looking for a ride for the big TQ race in January in Atlantic City, NJ. As anyone that has followed Seitz career knows, the more strange and tough a track is, and the indoor AC track surely is, the tougher Seitz is! Any interested parties may contact Jeff@ThrowinItDown.com  for more information on his accomplishments and for contact information.

As for what's up next for the young Ben Seitz, only time will tell.  Seitz would love to get seat time in an asphalt modified and a ride in a supermodified but nothing has been solidified for the coming season. Seitz did very successfully test a supermodified out in OH and was set to run a race with the ISMA sanctioning body but a rainout shut those plans down. In his first time out he was running lap times consistent with those in the top 10! But then again, why would one expect anything different from a young man that has won in everything he’s ever  driven?

In closing, keep your eyes on Seitz, he just may end up on the TV one day next to the likes of Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon. He’s go the talent.  He’s got the attitude. And Most important of all, he’s got the look in his eye that lets everyone know that he’s not quite ready to stop with his most recent conquer. To keep up with Ben and what’s going on stop by
www.BenSeitzRacing.com.

Hubbard, 16, of Bethel, DE, bested the field with a blistering qualifying lap that placed him at the top of the charts. Poised on the front row of his heat race, it appeared that the teen racer may be able to end a difficult season on a positive note. Bad luck would strike the team as the #12m had a mechanical problem and broke early in the heat race. After losing steering control, the team forfeited the opportunity to start at the back of the B-Main and ended yet another strong run with a disappointing finish.

Matt, who still attends high school and recently received his driver's license, is accustomed to turning heads on the track. The young Diamond Stater has amassed several wins, titles and special honors all before his sixteenth birthday. In spite of a difficult season in 2005, Matt still made great strides.

When the team declared last fall that they will follow the highly-competitive Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS), Matt became the youngest competitor to ever vie for the highly-coveted “Rookie of the Year” title. Ohio's Devin Friese, who is nearly twice Matt's age, walked away with the "Rookie" title but Matt still managed a 2nd-runner up finish. He also ended the MACS season with a ninth place standing in the championship points just ahead of 2004 MACS Championship runner-up, Keith Barbara.

Also noteworthy, Matt earned respect from some of the nation's best dirt late model wheelmen contracted with the "Stacker 2® World of Outlaws' Late Model Series" after making four feature events on the premier racing circuit. In addition to the recognition as the youngest competitor to ever make a WoO Late Model show at the age of 15,
