Seitz Roars to Second Win of the 2005 NEMA Season
New Jersey native Ben Seitz had a lot to prove coming into the 2005 season.
Fresh off his NEMA championship in 2004, Seitz wanted to prove that
his title run wasn’t a hoax, that it wasn’t a one-time deal. Seitz
mentioned at the beginning of the season, “We need to run upfront
again this year and back up what we accomplished in 2004. People
don’t remember what you did last year, they remember what you did last
race.”
With that said, Seitz started off the 2005 season at Stafford with a
victory over the NEMA brass, picking up where he left off in 2004.
But the next race was at Adirondack and it proved to be a disaster for
the Cape Cod Aggregates # 17. Seitz lost a brand new motor in his
heat race. Prior to the feature Cabral Racing, Father Glenn and Son
Randy, graciously offered Seitz a ride in their backup mount. Seitz,
starting at the rear of the field, took off like a man possessed,
passing cars high and low, all over the track. By lap five Seitz was
up to 4th place and a caution came out to slow the pace. At the same
time, during the caution period the Autocraft motor in the Cabral
Racing backup car, not unlike Seitz potent Gaerte, sizzled out,
leaving Seitz with a weak finish.
The team went back to the shop and put in one of the Gaerte’s they
acquired last year and had freshened during the winter. They went to
Star Speedway in NH and the car was off a bit but still, Seitz managed
to manhandle the car and bring it home with a solid 4th place finish
against some of the best midget drivers in the country. But to Seitz
and the Valeri Motorsports Crew a 4th just wasn’t going to cut it.
They went back to the shop, made some changes and got the car ready
for the short tow from Monument Beach, MA to Seekonk Speedway.
Seitz, with his primary sponsor, Cape Cod Aggregates, and a slew of
their employees in the stands knew it was time to get back to
business. Seitz started dead last in his heat and within a few laps
had rocketed to the helm, turning blistering lap times and setting the
stage for the rest of the competitors. Come feature time, with a 9th
place starting spot and a bumper crop of talent in front of him, Seitz
went to work. By lap eight Seitz had wheeled his strong running
Beast/Gaerte combo by North East star Bobby Santos and put on the
after burners. With just a handful of cautions slowing the pace,
Seitz cruised to a strong victory, putting his team back in 2nd place
in the points standing and looking forward to catching and overtaking
Joey Payne, ISMA/NEMA standout.
“We’re taking it one race at a time right now”, said an always polite and
low-key Seitz. “My Car owner, Peter Valeri, gave me a great car as
usual. And I really have to thank Cape Cod Aggregates for all their
support, we couldn’t do this without them and we appreciate it. If we
just keep moving forward, plucking off a few points here and a few
points there we can definitely catch Joey and make this two in row.”
In the end, Seitz has proven time and time again that he knows how to wheel
a car and get the job done. His smooth, thoughtful style has led him
to titles in every division he’s ever raced in. As for what’s on the
horizon, Seitz and his team always have something cooking but for
right now they are focused on the 2005 season with the NEMA series.
And right now Seitz is setting his vision on making it two in a row
and three out of five when they go to Thompson International Speedway
on June 30th.

JUNE 19, 2005
SPEEDWEEK KICKS OFF SATURDAY AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
The 15th Annual Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek will
kick off this coming Saturday June 25 at the Lincoln Speedway, near Hanover.
Eight nights of Sprint car action packed into nine days with $195,000 on the
line for central Pennsylvania's top Sprint Car racers.
The Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race will be the opening event of Speedweek as
it has been for quite a few years now. The 30 lap contest on Lincoln
Speedway's high banked 3/8ths mile oval will offer $5000 to the winner.
Last year Lance Dewease won the Gobrecht Memorial to kick off Speedweek in
style. Over the years, Lincoln Speedway has hosted 15 Speedweek events, with
eight time Speedweek king Fred Rahmer leading all drivers with four Lincoln
victories. Dewease has won three times at Lincoln during Speedweek with
Steve Smith and Billy Brian Jr. claiming two wins each. Single Lincoln
Speedweek wins have gone to Donnie Kreitz Jr., Todd Shaffer, Greg Hodnett,
and Cris Eash.
In addition to the Sprint Cars, Lincoln's Speedweek show will also feature
the ever popular Thundercars.
On Sunday June 26, the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek series moves to the
Grandview Speedway, in Bechtelsville, PA. The Thunder on the Hill portion of
Speedweek will feature a 35 lap feature on Grandview's high banked 1/4mile
oval. The winner will take home $4000.
Last year Rahmer showed he would be a Speedweek force once again with his
third Grandview Speedweek win. In all Grandview has hosted seven completed
Speedweek programs, with double wins going to Dewease, while Hodnett and
Billy Pauch have each won once during Speedweek at Grandview.
The ARDC Midgets will join the Sprint Cars at Grandview. They will complete
a feature rained out several weeks ago, and then have another feature later
in the program.
After the only off day during the week, the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek
series moves to the Big Diamond Raceway on Tuesday evening June 28. The 30
lap feature on Big Diamond's semi-banked 4/10th mile oval will offer $4000
to the winner.
Hodnett won last year's Speedweek race at Big Diamond, and has in fact
dominated Speedweek action there. He's won the last three Speedweek events
at Big Diamond and also won the first Speedweek event there. Only Tyler
Walker and Keith Kauffman have been able to stop Hodnett at Big Diamond.
The show at Big Diamond will also feature the Race of Champions DIRT Tour
Sportsman Series cars.
The Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek series moves to Alan Kreitzer's Silver
Spring Speedway, in Mechanicsburg, on Wednesday evening June 29. A program
that features just the Sprint Cars will offer a 30 lap feature on the tight
confines of the Spring's oval, with $4000 going to the winner.
Rahmer has been the top performer over the eight completed Speedweek
programs at the Springs. He won last year's event, and has also won three
other features there. Other Speedweek winners at the Springs are Eash with
two, and single wins for Hodnett and Sean Michael.
Thursday June 30 the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek series moves to Todd
Fisher's Susquehanna Speedway Park, near Newberrytown. The high banked red
clay oval will feature a 30 lap feature with $4000 going to the winner.
Hodnett was last year's SSP winner, while Kreitz three victories is Susky's
high count for Speedweeks. Rahmer Dewease and Eash each have two, while in
addition to Hodnett, single wins have gone to Smith, Pauch, and Brett Mann.
In addition to the Sprint Cars, the program at SSP will also feature the
exciting Xtreme Stocks, and the WoW, Women on Wheels stocks.
The crown jewel of the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek series will be reeled
off Friday July 1 at the fabled Williams Grove Speedway , near Mechanicsburg
The Mitch Smith Memorial race will go for 30 laps on the paper clip shaped
full half mile oval, with $10,000 going to the winner.
Rahmer won last year's Mitch Smith Memorial, and leads all drivers with
three Speedweek wins at the Grove. Hodnett, Dewease, Kreitz and Smith have
each won twice at the Grove during Speedweek, while single wins have gone to
Kauffman and Shaffer.
There will be a giant fireworks display to wrap up the Grove's program.
As the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Speedweek series begins to wind down, the
Sprint Cars move to the historic Fairgrounds oval in Port Royal for Saturday
July 2. This program offers a 30 lap feature event with $5000 to the winner.
Kauffman, the Port's leading career winner, won last year's Speedweek event,
and bumped up his speedweek total there to three. Single Speedweek wins at
the Port have gone to Jeff Shepard, Dewease, Kreitz and Mark Smith.
In addition to the Sprint Cars, Port Royal's program will include the
Prostocks.
The Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek will wrap up on
Sunday July 3 at another historic Fairgrounds oval, this one in Selinsgrove.
The Selinsgrove show will offer a 30 lap feature with $4000 to the winner.
Hodnett has won the last three Speedweek shows at Selinsgrove, but it is
Rahmer with five wins who leads Speedweek competitors at the big half mile
oval. Pauch has won there twice, while Shaffer and Lenny Krautheim are
single time winners.
The Selinsgrove show will also feature the Prostocks. The Selinsgrove show
will have the only rain date of this year's Speedweek series, with Monday
July 4 being used if needed.

A ‘Healthy Bill’ for Racing
By: Gene Ostrowski
Drivers racing at local tracks in the past month suffered four separate
heart attacks, which resulted in death. This brought many questions to the
table.
It’s not a topic taken lightly, but should all drivers be mandated to pass a
pre-season physical in order to compete at any specific track for the
season? Do they have to be in good physical condition to compete in
short-track auto racing? Well, in a recent on-line survey conducted by
Mountain Speedway and the Long Island Jam website, yes. The results were
split, with 25% saying no, and 75% leaning toward yes.
Sanctioning bodies, such as NASCAR and SCCA currently mandate drivers to
have a physical prior to the start of each racing season. Can a driver
suffer a heart attack even after being ‘approved’ to race by a doctor? Sure
they can, but with lower risk. In many cases, signs of heart problems are
noticeable during a routine physical.
Like it or not, predictions are, that within the next few years, local
tracks will be forced to mandate a physical, or a ‘clean bill of health’ on
each driver who competes at their facility. The idea may cause a stir,
especially among the elder drivers, but in the long run, everyone wins.
Expensive insurance bills and liability claims force tracks to carry that
cost over to the drivers and fans. Going through the motions to assure the
best precautions are taken to prevent injury, or death is what insurance
companies want to see, not to mention that the competition may feel more at
ease knowing that everyone on the track is physically healthy.
Driver safety isn’t the only concern, as each driver has a crew full of
members in the pit area throughout an evening of racing. One suggestion was
to keep a file on each driver and crewmember in the track office. The file
might include a laminated ID card and emergency contact information, along
with a list of any allergies, etc. that the person has. In the case of an
emergency, the file would be pulled and given to the ambulance crew. This
would help assure that any injury that occurs in the pit area would be dealt
with in a professional fashion, as their medical information is on hand.
Remember, this sport we all love so dear is fun to do and great to watch,
but with having the reassurance that each driver is in good physical
condition is much better than witnessing injury, or even death.

WALLACE FENDS OF STEWART'S CHALLENGE
By: Greg Billing
DAYTON DAILY NEWS
Tony Stewart couldn't do to Kenny
Wallace what he did to Jeff Gordon last weekend. Wallace never gave him the
chance.
Wallace, starting third in the Nextel Prelude to the Dream charity event,
passed pole-sitter Red Farmer right after the start and held off Stewart for
the Prelude win Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway. Stewart, who sent Gordon
into the wall in Nextel Cup racing last weekend, finished second. The track
owner started sixth and moved up four spots in the first two laps.
On a night of stars, it was only fitting former track owner Earl Baltes gave the words, "Start your engines."
From there the 25-lap Prelude ran with just one caution. Stewart came close to getting underneath Wallace on the turns several times, but couldn't pull the move off.
Besides Wallace, the other big winner was the Victory Junction Gang Camp for chronically ill children. Before the feature, Stewart presented founder Kyle Petty with a $40,000 check. The drivers also agreed the winner would add his $10,000 payout.
That was Wallace, also a heat winner who gained recent dirt experience by running Modifieds this season. Wallace celebrated the win with a spin-out in front of the grandstand, throwing dirt among the 17,500 spectators.
"Who woulda thunk, who woulda ever thunk," Wallace said to the cheering crowd. "The track was so much faster than I thought it was. ... I'm so appreciative of everything and I want to think everyone for coming out."
One of the more veteran drivers showed the youngsters how it's done in the heats. Legend Red Farmer, named one of NASCAR's top 50 drivers, led all 10 laps and held off Danny Lasoski and Stewart to capture the second heat.
"It was good. I think I'm gonna go kid Danny and Tony about it right now," Farmer said of his heat win. "I was waiting for one of them to come up along side me, maybe into the corner. Other than that I just ran my groove."
In the second heat, Wallace survived a spin in Turn 1 with NHRA driver Ron Capps and cruised to the win with the rest of the field still in the final turn.
Fellow veteran Bill Elliott, driving in NASCAR since 1976, turned in the fastest qualifying lap. His 16.083 edged Stewart's 16.149 in a sport where turning a 15-second lap is good. Stewart came closest in the hot laps with a 16.25, followed by Kenny Schrader and Lasoski, who both ran 16.3.
"The track looked more intimidating from the outside than it does on the track," Elliott said. "Once you get on it you just run it."
Kevin Harvick, one of the more watched drivers due to his lack of dirt experience, ran 16.687 for a respectable eighth best. But in Heat 2 he tried to avoid that spin and tore up the car, putting him in a back-up.
"I didn't know what to expect," Harvick said after the hot laps. "Just having a good time."
Matt Kenseth also found trouble on the backstretch in his hot lap but not before turning in a 16.222. He was driving Johnny Johnson's back-up Late Model and the crew just got him into his heat after tearing up the spoiler and fin, the right rear corner and front spindle.
"When he went around I heard the crowd cheer so I knew he had a good time," said Johnson crew member Russell Krieger. "He went around again and I heard a bunch of oohs and ahhs and I knew that wasn't good. It ain't nothing we can't fix. We're used to stuff like that."
The night also featured a few perks for the fans, just not ones of Jeff Gordon, who was the subject of a few zingers. Asked earlier by some if Stewart had invited Gordon, Stewart drew massive boos from the crowed.
"That's funny, that's what I thought about him, too," Stewart said to cheers.
Spectators got an up-close view of the drivers, who jumped in the back of pick-ups for a parade lap around the track. The spectators were also treated to interview sessions and 14 lucky fans were able to meet one of the drivers.
"It's a neat place," Elliott said. "There's a lot of history here, like the first time I went to Indy."

IT TIME TO GO RACING
JEREMY D. PARSONS
We are now over a month into the new season here at DIS and already the
drama is racing faster than a sprint car on Saturday night. From who is
cheating to who should be thrown out of DIS has dominated the headlines at
DIS. To bad the headlines are not about the great racing that we see every
Saturday night.
We have seen some great racing so far this year and already seeing some new
and veteran contenders for the various divisions for their respective
championship. Who ever believed that Richard Jarvis JR would be showing how
much of a future star he is going to be? There is no doubt he will be one to
watch as we race towards October and the Late Model championship series.
It looks like Mullins is back on the attack again this year for the Big
Block modifieds. Will he be one to watch or will a dark horse like HJ or
Bishop show up to spoil his winning ways. My hat goes off to Steve Downs,
keep up the good work to me you deserve the most improved award. This year
looks to be exciting watching this division and the great racing we come to
expect from this class.
Then there are the AC Delco boys of DIS. Instead of complimenting each other
on the great side by side racing that this division was created for, they
are voicing who is cheating and how much they are getting away with it. Come
on guys lets go back to racing!! Show these fans that are you better than
the average “Jeff Gordon Cry baby”, show them that you all can race and put
on a great show.
In fact every division should stop with all the crying. Have you drivers and
crews forgotten about the kids that look up to you all? If we are fighting
and bashing each other, what does this teach the future racers of tomorrow?
If you don’t believe me then I challenge you to take a walk down the stands
any Saturday night and look up in them and see the various ages of children
rooting on their favorite driver and wearing the driver’s apparel. Trust me
they are reading what we say, they are watching what we do, lets set the
example. Lets stop the fighting and bashing each other,
LETS GO RACING!!!!!

THE RETURN
OF “MR. SMOOTH”
Press Release, Billy Moyer Racing
Contact: Michelle Petroff, (618) 406-6842 or michelle@michellepetroff.com
The past is reawakened. The future is here. Mr. Smooth is back.
BATESVILLE, AR (May 28, 2005) – While he has never left, both friends and
foes alike will concur, “Mr. Smooth” is back. After two less-than-perfect
seasons, something has sparked in Billy Moyer and his #21 dirt late model
team. Moyer, one of the most accomplished and celebrated dirt racers of our
time, has reinforced why he is commonly referred to as “Mr. Smooth.” In the
thirty-three events that the #21 team has already completed in 2005, they have
notched 7 wins, 7 second places and a total of 17 top-5 finishes while
following the World of Outlaws Late Model Series’ tour and competing in
selected special events.
The #21 team’s recent performance harkens back to the 1980s and 1990s when
they reigned supreme; but spectators will also notice the return of the old in
other aspects of Billy Moyer Racing. The 2005 C.J. Rayburn race cars are
carrying a retro paint scheme from New Vision Graphics. The scheme resembles
Moyer’s #21 that visited victory lane at the World 100 for the first time in
1991. The past has also been reawakened with the return of BillyMoyer.com.
The new web site is a celebration of Moyer’s three-decade career in
motorsports and is referred to as “Billy Moyer: Retrospect.”
“Retrospect” is a fusion of highlights and memories from the past and
recent accomplishments on a platform utilizing new technology including
creative Flash programming by award-winning designer Alan Copeland. The new
concept was born as Moyer and long-time Moyer marketing and public relations
consultant, Michelle Petroff, wanted to reflect on memorable moments in Mr.
Smooth’s career. The site honors the successful past and entire career of
Billy Moyer, the only 5-time winner of the prestigious World 100, but also
rises to meet new goals and future achievements. In addition to recent news,
results and more traditional racing website content, we hope that our fans and
the racing community enjoy the injection of nostalgia and dirt late model
memories that is embodied in our new website.
“Billy Moyer: Retrospect” is now online at

Fuller Takes Checkers In Ferris Commercial Mowers
Presents The Eckerd 50 At Lowe's
By Tom Skibinski, DIRT Modified Series Reporter
Concord, NC — May 25, 2005 — Last season Tim Fuller was selected as DIRT MotorSports' Driver of the Year after wheeling the MBF Racing no. m1 B&F General Machine/TEO entry to a DIRT-high total of 18 big-block feature wins. The Edwards, N.Y. pilot already has the 2005 campaign locked on course to match that mark and his latest $10,000 victory in the Ferris Commercial Mowers presents the Eckerd 50 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway on Wednesday may be enough to even push him beyond.
"With all the Cup people around here along with my car owner this one ranks right up there with the win at Syracuse last year," figured Fuller, following his sixth career Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series victory in NASCAR's backyard. His DIRT-best fourth win of '05 gives him 51 big-block feature race triumphs and vaults him into fifth-place on the Series' points chart after finishing 25th with a blown motor in the tour opener at Rolling Wheels (NY) Raceway on May 1. "I like to win at different tracks and especially at big places like this. This one goes out to the crew since they were the ones that took vacation time off just to come down here and make it all happen. Its just a great night from start to finish."
Fuller actually finished off the evening time trials, turning trackside with the last of 43 cars to run under the clocks. He toured the 4/10-mile red clay oval fourth fastest and captured the second qualifying heat before drawing third to start the 50-lap main inside row two.
Pole-sitter Gary Tomkins charged out to open up an early feature race advantage before veteran Bob McCreadie spun out high in turn three on the first circuit steering his new tour ride, the renumbered no. 27x JIR Motorsports-Tracey Road Equipment/Bicknell machine. With five laps complete Brett Hearn had charged from sixth to second with Fuller in tow ahead of Justin Haers and Bucky Kell. On lap six it was second-generation standout Tim McCreadie stopping on the back stretch to incur the second caution period.
Back under green flag conditions, Fuller quickly overtook Hearn for the runner-up slot and set his sights clearly on leader Tomkins in the no. 1 Elaine James Motorsports-Pillsbury Collectibles/Bicknell machine. Fuller pulled even with Tomkins as the lead duo crossed the stripe to complete lap 13 and then ducked under in turn two to forge what would be the final lead change of the race although it was never a runaway for the Edwards, NY chauffeur.
Three more caution periods for minor slowdowns hindered the race pace with the open-wheel mounts of Vic Coffey (lap 16) and Tomkins (lap 34) suffering flat tires while Dale Planck (lap 49) extended the finale after he looped owner Brian McDonald's East End Auto Parts/Bicknell ride in front of the leaders with just a couple miles to go. Both qualified Nextel Cup drivers Carl Edwards (flat tire) and Dave Blaney (brake line) also retired during the early stages leaving the DIRT contingent to battle among themselves for the highest positions.
By the halfway mark Fuller still showed the way ahead of Tomkins while 11th-place starter Jimmy Horton secured the show position followed by Haers, Kenny Tremont and Matt Sheppard. And after Tomkins bowed out with his right rear flat the order would not change despite Horton testing out every lane in the potent no. 42 Grosso Trucking/Bicknell machine.
Horton closed to within a couple car-lengths on lap 40 and crept even nearer when Fuller suddenly got trapped behind Ray Bliss in traffic as 46 laps were completed on the scoreboard. Yet just as Horton was setting up for a last-gasp effort in turn two, Planck spun out in turn four opening the door wide again for Fuller to chase the checkered flag with a clear track ahead. The late race mishap only delayed the inevitable as Fuller dashed over the finish line three car-lengths ahead of Horton, with Haers, Tremont and Sheppard coasting across the stripe in that order.
"I just needed a better starting spot tonight even though we had trouble in time trials," said Horton, who dropped in a Feil big-block powerplant under the hood of the traditional Grosso Trucking small-block ride used at Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway on Friday nights. "I really couldn't do anything the last 20 laps, (Fuller) was using up the fast lane down low and that's where I needed to be to make up any ground. Second is still alright considering Rick (Grosso) called me on Monday to come down and here we are on the podium."
The third-place tally for Haers was maybe even more impressive as he crashed his primary no. 3h Phelps Cement Products car at Cayuga County Fair (NY) Speedway on Sunday and sent his brother to Canada to pick up a brand new Bicknell chassis by Tuesday. "I'm really more surprized just to finish as we've come here the past couple years and always seem to get in a wreck," Haers said. "It's a brand new car and the first time we've run it so the experience was definitely a good one this time around."
The win was Fuller's first-ever at Lowe's after logging four top-five finishes in the 50-lap events staged in 2002-03 and settling for 11th-place last April one lap down to the field. Despite a broken panhard bar dropping Hearn back to eighth on the final scoresheet, the Sussex, N.J. ace still leads the Advance Auto Parts standings heading back to Central New York on Sunday, May 29. Highlighting the traditional Memorial Day holiday card is the 14th Annual DIRT Hall of Fame Classic at Cayuga County Fair Speedway sponsored by Tobacco Free Cayuga and Madison Counties.
