Mountain Speedway Crowns 2011 Division Champions
By: Gene Ostrowski
November 13, 2011
Hazleton, Pa- Under the twelfth season of operation with Hazleton’s Joe
Callavini at the helm, Mountain Speedway held its annual awards banquet Saturday
evening at Genetti’s Inn & Suites in Hazleton, PA.
Hundreds filled the banquet hall, including crew and friends and family members
of racers that competed at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval in St. Johns, PA during the
2011 racing season. Along with the presentation of special awards, the end of
the year celebration was held to recognize the top points finishers each of the
track’s divisions.
Speedway Announcers Gene Ostrowski and Larry Spencer III were the emcees for the
ceremony and spoke about the competitive 2011 season. They continued by thanking
the drivers, families and crewmembers for not only supporting the speedway, but
also for supporting short track racing in general.
The evening was highlighted when Bobby Jones of Palmerton was crowned as the
Modified champion. In a dominating performance this season, Jones soared to 13
top ten finishes in an equal number of starts. With 11 top five finishes and
four feature wins, he headed into the final event of the season with a large
enough lead to not even start the race and still win the crown.
Jones thanked his sponsors and family before thanking his crewmember, many of
which have been by his side through out his entire racing career.
The remaining divisional champions were also honored, including Dave Brigati of
Long Island, who scored his first Sport Modified track championship. Like Jones,
Brigati thanked everyone that helped him through out the season and promised
that once again he would call Mountain Speedway his home next season. In 11
starts this year, Brigati only had one finish outside the top five. He also
netted three feature wins along the way.
Also from Long Island, Craig Lutz scored his first championship in the Late
Model division. In only his second year of competition, he set the bar high from
the get-go. Lutz visited victory lane for the fist time this season and then
followed up the feat with four more victories, including the season ending “King
of the Mountain”.
In a tight points battle all season long, Steve Shultz of Drums grabbed the
Street Stock title. Matt Schlenker of Walnutport clinched his first career
Factory Stock title and Eric Banashefski of Ashley took his very first FWD
division crown. Scott Hubler of Coplay won his second career INEX Legends
championship. TJ Kapish of Mountaintop claimed his second straight 6/8-Cylinder
enduro championship and Tony Rispin won the 4-Cylinder enduro title in the
Mountain Madness Enduro Series.
Sponsored by Tyler Jett Motorsports Marketing, wooden clocks were presented to
the drivers present who ran the fastest feature lap of the season. The winners
were CJ Jones (Modified), Dave Brigati (Sport Modified), Travis Fisher (Late
Model), Chip Wanamaker (Street Stock), Keith Frankenfield (Factory Stock) and

THUNDER SERIES 2011
THUNDER ON THE HILL COMPLETES 22ND SUCCESSFUL SEASON, THUNDER ROAD SHOWS A HIT
IN 2011
It's hard to believe another Thunder on the Hill Racing Series is history.
2011 was destine to be a monumental season as Thunder on the Hill reached its
twenty-second season and 100th Thunder Show on June 28. Branching off from the
Thunder on the Hill Racing Series are the Thunder Road Shows, similar in nature,
by presenting the . . . ."not so similar" shows at different tracks. In 2011 all
scheduled Thunder events were presented even against the odds of bad weather.
Without a doubt, all the Thunder events were wildly successful.
Looking back at 2011, it was a year of right decisions for both the Thunder on
the Hill Racing Series and the Thunder Road Shows. The 100th Thunder event in
June was greeted by Mother Nature with rain falling during time trials and the
ROC Modified Traffic JAM became a two day show with help from Mother Nature.
With all the challenges, the shows did go on.
The Battle at Lincoln Thunder Road Show ran off without a hitch even with a 40%
chance of rain and the 410 Sprint Jersey Rush show at New Egypt Speedway, well,
that race came off despite a Hurricane, the loss of power at the track, limited
phone service and several competitors missing from the field because flooding
kept the crew from getting the car out of the garage. On with the show was the
motto. . . . . .and yes, it was another successful venture.
It's all part of the job. When you get up in the morning of race day, you want
everything to go just right, but some things are just out of your control, like
MeMe DeSantis taking down a good portion of the Grandview Speedway homestretch
fence during this years' Traffic JAM. And of course, the challenges always
presented by Mother Nature.
Never-the-less, the Thunder events beat the odds, scheduling and completing all
eight dates. Wow. . . a year without a single cancellation.
The Thunder events are known for being different, certainly not the same old
same old. "Bringing a different show to a home track crowd is exciting but risky
as well", commented Thunder event's organizer Bob Miller. The NAPA Auto Parts
Thunder on the Hill Racing Series is different today than when the series
started in 1990. What began as a standalone 410 sprint show, developed into much
more. The World of Outlaws Sprints & Late Models soon joined the series along
with the California Racing Association (CRA), SCRA and the USAC non-wing sprints
rallied behind Thunder on the Hill. The DIRT Modifieds and ROC Modifieds
sanctioned the fourteen year history of the Big Block Modified Traffic JAM, a
marquee event now at Bruce Roger's exciting one-third mile Grandview Speedway,
on "the hill" in Bechtelsville, PA. "Change is a necessity for success", added
Miller.
URC Sprints, ARDC Midgets, Late Models, Legends, 358 sprints, sportsman,
micro-sprints and even the Monster Smash Demolition Derby have all been part of
the twenty-two years and one-hundred and two Thunder on the Hill Racing Series
events presented at Grandview Speedway by track owner Bruce Rogers and Bob
Miller.
In 2011, the Thunder Road Show was part of three additional successful events as
well. First, the Thunder Road Show returned to the New Egypt Speedway for the
second consecutive year to bring the USAC non-wings sprints back to New Jersey.
The USAC sprint and Big Block Modified double-header was even bigger this year.
The USAC sprints returned to New Jersey in 2010 after a thirty-two year hiatus.
In early August, Bob Miller along with Ray Herold brought the big block
modifieds to Lincoln Speedway. It was twenty-five years since the modifieds hit
the "Pigeon Hills" oval and this event, joined by the 358/360 sprints filled the
stands. The success of this show was a surprise to many especially those who
thought there was little to no interest in the modifieds in central
Pennsylvania. This show will be back on the Lincoln Speedway schedule in 2012.
At the end of August, Bob Miller teamed up with the Lenny Sammons and sons Danny
and Davey to pull off the 410 Sprint JERSEY RUSH. Again, a different division,
missing from the New Egypt Speedway schedule for years, returned to the delight
of a huge crowd that saw JJ Grasso win his first ever 410 sprint feature as the
master of New Egypt, Billy Pauch took the win in the modified feature in an
outrageously successful event.
The 2011 season was a huge success for the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series and
Thunder Road Show. Plans are already in the works for the 2012 year which will
find the Thunder Series padding its' already lucrative total payoff that now
exceeds $3.4 million dollars in one-hundred and two races at Grandview.
The Thunder on the Hill Racing Series wishes to thank their many sponsors
especially long time Series sponsor NAPA Auto Parts & Jeff Riling, Vertical
Telephone Systems & Jim Gallagher, Lee Myles Transmissions & Hank Smith ,
Pioneer Pole Buildings & Bob Greene, Chad Sinon & BPG Racing, MACH1 Chassis &
Brian Scandle, The Berks-Montgomery Newspapers, Palmer Candy of Reading,
Lawrence Chevrolet, and Joe Adams Lettering.

GASOLINE ALLEY NEWS
Allentown, PA: Gasoline Alley Hosts Ed And Steve Pados Thanks The Racing
Community For Their Support For Ten Successful Years Of Race Shows
By:Steve Pados, GA
Motorsports Media
The extremely popular and nationally acclaimed CARQUEST Gasoline Alley
TV/Internet Show ended their successful ten year reign of shows with the airing
of last week's farewell edition of the show. Show hosts Ed and Steve Pados have
welcomed in a multitude of top personalities from the past, present and future
of motorsports during the ten years they have broadcast their show and would
like to take this opportunity thank everyone who became involved with the show
for the overwhelming success the show has enjoyed throughout it's long
existence. The fan base of the show was universal and the Pados Brothers thank
everyone for the hundreds of emails and phone calls that have arrived with the
closing of the show. The Gasoline Alley Gang has served the racing community for
the past ten years on the airwaves and captured the essence and the pulse of
racing with the well formatted "theme" show programming they followed from day
one of the show. In total, the 545th edition of their show was their final show
and 334 of the shows were hosted on the party channel at WALN Digital Cable and
"Happy Jack" Burns on Channels 103 and 137. The Gasoline Alley Team also hosted
another 63 shows dubbed "On-Track" on WALN that followed Gasoline Alley for two
years. The show originally came to fruition in 2002 when they first aired on the
WGPA 1100 AM Station in Bethlehem and after 47 shows were produced moved to the
Easton based WEST 1400 AM Station. While at the Easton location 101 shows were
produced and the show became the number one listened to show in the Lehigh
Valley calling area.
The Pados Brothers have been involved in racing for more than sixty years with
their first racing chores being scraping the accummulated mud out from under the
1937 Ford coupe stock car the family was racing at the time. The memories abound
for the Pados Brothers in racing and it was a natural for them to turn to the
microphones to carry their thoughts to the airwaves with their well accepted
show. Through the 545 shows, more than 8,000 drivers, car owners, engine and
chassis builders, media correspondents and book authors were interviewed during
their great show. Every division of racing was included in the interview
process, from go karts right on up to the stars of NASCAR but it was indeed the
short tracks where the Pados Brothers focused their attentions too. The list of
guests that interviewed on the show is likely never to be duplicated again in
racing as young stars such as Chad Boat gave his first interview to the Gang at
the age of 12 and many of the young stars arriving at the top echelon of the
sport today such as Ricky Stenhouse, Cole Whitt, Kyle Larson and Chris Windom
were many time guests on the show. The list of female driving talent on the show
was second to none with Mares Stellfox, Taylor Ferns, Shannon McQueen, Jessica
Clark, Jessica Zemken, Michelle Decker, Audra Saselli, and Randi Pankratz among
the many top female driving stars who frequented the show. The Gang never forgot
the past superstars of the sport and whether it was the sprints or the
modifieds, the Gang covered all the bases and then some. Doug Wolfgang, the late
Ray Tilley, Roger Rager, Bubby Jones, Lynn Paxton, Bobby Allen, Milt Miller,
Richard Griffin, Leland McSpadden, Lee Osborne, Kenny Brenn were just a sampling
of the many great open wheelers who took part in the show. Modified aces
included racing legends, Bill Wimble, Sammy Beavers, Tom Hager, Stan Ploski,
Freddy Adam, Red Coffin, Kenny Brenn Jr, Gerald Chamberlain, Frank Schneider and
the late Gene Bergin and Ernie Gahan. Modern era Modified stars have included
just about every star in Modified racing today. The Gang also did their famous
prelude to the Chili Bowl shows format for years and were able to bring in the
winners of the event each year with the exception of Tony Stewart.
The popular award winning TV/Internet show has been archived with only a few
shows missing from the long history of the show. In the next few months the
shows will be reviewed and possibly offered to the fans of racing who want to
hear and see many of the broadcasts again. The Gasoline Alley Gang has brought
to the racing community the fastest, funniest and most informed racing show on
the airwaves and while the show has come to a close, racing will remain a major
part of the Pados Brother's lives.

Chub Frank Secures Fifth-Place Finish In World of Outlaws Late Model Series
Points Standings
BEAR LAKE, PA – Nov. 9, 2011 – Chub Frank secured a fifth-place finish in the
2011 World of Outlaws Late Model Series points standings with a top-10 run in
last Saturday night’s season-ending 50-lap Lowes Foods World Finals A-Main at
The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.
Surviving a late-race tangle that sent him spinning in the middle of traffic,
Frank crossed the finish line seventh to clinch his first top-five placing on
the WoO LMS since 2008. He picked up a $30,000 check for his fifth-place points
finish during the national tour’s awards banquet on Sunday night at the Great
Wolf Lodge just down the road from the speedway.
“We’re happy to get fifth in the points,” said Frank, who has finished as high
as second in the WoO LMS standings. “We almost got to fourth (falling just four
points shy of Tim McCreadie) – if we could’ve run better on Friday night (he
finished one lap down in 19th in the first 50-lapper of the World Finals
weekend) we could’ve gotten by McCreadie. We’ll take fifth, though.”
Frank, 49, of Bear Lake, Pa., fell short of reaching Victory Lane on the WoO LMS
for the second consecutive season, but his steady performance record in 2011
(five top-fives and 17 top-10s) allowed him to crack the top-five in the points
race.
The driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ did, however, experience a scare in Saturday
night’s World Finals finale. While racing inside the top 10 on lap 37 he tangled
with Shane Clanton, sending his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket
No. 1* spinning in turn four. Frank managed to twirl his machine around without
coming to a stop, allowing him to keep his position for the restart and continue
on to a seventh-place finish.
“Clanton’s gonna say one thing and I’m gonna say another (about the tangle),”
said Frank, who qualified for both World Finals A-Mains with third-place
heat-race finishes. “I thought I gave him enough room, but if I was at fault
after looking at the tape, I’ll apologize.”
Frank, who started 13th in Saturday’s feature, ended his ’11 WoO LMS campaign
with an upbeat attitude. His performance improved after putting Roush-Yates
engines under the hood of his cars late in the season, giving him high hopes for
2012.
“Let’s go. Let’s start now,” Frank said when asked about the ’12 season. “I’m
ready to go right now. Everything we changed with our program was positive, so
I’m happy. We ended the season stronger than we started it, so we’re going in
the right direction.”
Frank plans to follow the WoO LMS as a regular once again in 2012 – and with the
help of his Roush-Yates power, he’s hoping to time-trial more consistently and
thus contend for more top-five finishes and wins.
“I don’t want to pass 179 cars again – that part I didn’t like about this year,”
said Frank, who won the $500 DirtonDirt.com Hard Charger for advancing the most
positions in WoO LMS A-Mains during the 2011 season. “If you pass 179 cars in
features, that means you’re not qualifying well and you’re starting too far
back. You just can’t make up that ground.
“You have to put yourself in position to win, and to do that we have to improve
our qualifying. I think we will.”
Frank stayed down south after Sunday’s WoO LMS banquet in order to enter this
weekend’s National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. His
assault on the $25,000-to-win event will close out his 2011 racing schedule.

the weekend by powering his #57J McCool Logging/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By
Moyer/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to his biggest win of the
season, which was a $7,000 payday in the 5th Annual Gumbo Nationals.
Bub McCool concluded his 2011 season over the weekend as he claimed the biggest
win of the year in the $7,000-to-win, Gumbo Nationals at Greenville Speedway
(Greenville, MS), which was sanctioned by the PRO Dirt Car Series Super Late
Model tour. Thirty-five Super Late Models entered the event, and action began on
Friday night as Bub set fast time in his group and overall to earn the pole
position for the first heat race. He would storm to the heat win to earn the
pole starting spot for Saturday night's $7,000-to-win, 70 lap finale. Bub was
joined on the front row by Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, and as the race went green
McCool jumped to the lead. He would endure a few early race cautions before the
feature saw the event's final 52 laps go caution free. Bub would drive away from
second place runner, Jack Sullivan, but the going would be far from easy as he
had to endure heavy lapped traffic for the remainder of the event. McCool would
survive a few close calls to claim the win over Jack Sullivan, Kyle Pleasant,
Rodney Wing, and Ross Camponovo. The win was his third of the season as he
celebrated in front of an enthusiastic crowd and gave a young fan his helmet.

Bieber, Johnston Take Slingshot Top Honors
The 2011 Slingshot by Tobias racing season began with the Herr's Snack Bowl 25
for the All Star teams and after the checkered was thrown on winner Mike Butler,
it was apparent that the season would see one of the most competitive point
races in all regions and national events.
Oley, PA's Brett Bieber's AC season opener was at best, an attempt, as his 24th
place finish, would hopefully not continue on after he headed out of New Jersey.
Next up on the national tour schedule was Brett's hometrack, the Cordier Family
operated Shellhammers Speedway in Leesport, PA.Brett was the 2010 champion and
the Marlin Bieber prepared, Tim Long Insurance # 32 was awaiting all comers for
the 2nd Annual Spring Spectacular that has the highest payout of any single
event on the weekly or touring schedule. With $2000 awaiting the winner, the best
of the best head to the 1/8th mile high banked oval in hopes of heading home
with the top prize.
Brett's prelim run at Shellhammers the night before found him in victory lane
and the setup was there for him to take the lion's share of the purse as well as
the 150 points for a Super National win. From this race forward it was a matter
of survival, patience, maintenance and driver know-how. Making an early season
statement was Boyertown's Branden Clauss, who returned to PA from Florida to get
the added races that are here in the northeast. The green 67 of JR Fulper, seems
to be the silent surprise in many races as the Jim Fulper owned race car can be
counted on for top 10 runs ,no matter the track size or number of race entries.
Staying within challenging status was Shannon Smith in the Hamlin Speedways
23,Simon Egan in the S&S Speedways 55,Michael Glass aboard the Nicholas Racing
3N and Matt Carman who garnered a ride in the Slinger Warehouse # 7.
The night of August 8th will be one remembered by the Rick Nicholas Racing Team
as driver Michael Glass battled with Kyle Rohner and Matt Carman as the trio had
a race for the ages as the Reading Nostalgia National wasn't decided until the
final lap with Glass just edging Carman with Rohner in the Bill Weaver owned
Slingshot getting 3rd.Bill Weaver completed the 40 lap main in 4th with 3 time
winner Marc Daniels wheeling into a 5th in the S&S Speedways 5S.
The Kutztown Fair Speedway saw a dramatic increase in weekly competition and it
produced some great weekly racing ,but the August 8th Dutch Classic would find
over 30 teams hoping to be sitting in victory lane when the 30 lap main was
completed. Taking the win was Gary Hieber in the Scrappy' Auto Service 56 as
Brett Bieber tried every trick in the book to get by and actually had the lead
,but a yellow reversed the front runners and Hieber, who also claimed the
Kutztown weekly point championship was not to be denied. Joining Hieber and
Bieber on the top 3 podium was Matt Carman, who was now really in the point
chase.
Caroga Creek held their Pit Stop Challenge on August 27th and with Hurricane
Irene's aftermath wreaking havoc in the northeast, travel was held to a minimum
as Cody Clark took the checker with Tyler Dippel 2nd and making the 5 hour haul
for 3rd Matt Mertz.
The night of August 29th would see more than 40 Slingshots signed in for the
prestigeous running of the West End Fair Super National and with Lindas Speedway
announcer Mike Batz getting the crowd riled the racing on the speedway was one
of the most spirited of the season as the yellow 55 of Simon Egan got the honors
with Kyle Rohner and Kyle Hieber awaiting a mistake that would never happen,as
these 3 would be the big 3 at race's end. Strong runs by Joe Bodenschatz and
Matt Mertz were now letting some teams know the remaining season national events
could have a few surprises.
Reed Miller and Al Wilcox's Penn Can Speedway welcomed the Slingshot teams with
open arms and the Slingers did not disappoint, as all teams that entered would
be feature competitors in the a race that saw 2008 National champion Ben
Whitaker firmly plant himself into Elite 11 status with his continued battle
with Simon Egan as the pair ran wheel to wheel in the late stages of the 25 lap
main with Egan getting another victory to his credit, Whitaker 2nd and Shannon
Smith slotting in for her best national finish of 2011 with a fast closing
3rd.Adding to the excitement of the Battle by the Border was two of the top 3
national contenders Brett Bieber and Matt Carman bringing home the Slinger
Warehouse team cars 4th and 5th.The Penn Can event was labeled by many as the
favorite race of 2011 with thanks and total respect to track management allowing
all teams the chance to race all events.
The season closer at Hamlin would find another 30+ cars signed in for the Pit
Stop Challenge and one of Hamlin's strongest teams of 2011 would find victory
lane as Katonah,NY's Charlie Lawrence who made the switch from Oakland Valley to
Hamlin payoff as his win would add his name to the impressive list of national
event winners in the 2011 All Star Elite 11 National Tour. Giving chase to
Lawrence was Kyle Rode who was a winner at Hamlin in 2011,with one of the
youngest All Star drivers Danny Buccafusca getting 3rd in the David Buccafusca
wrenched 43.The Hamlin race now would find Buccafusca firmly in the season long
point battle. Simon Egan continued his run on picking up points to drop Bieber
from the top spot with a 4th place finish and Robbie Hocker was also quietly
moving into contention with a 5th place showing.
With the season winding down it was becoming most important to make every
remaining race on the schedule with the Lebanon Valley 50 at Lindas Speedway the
next challenge for the Slingshot teams.26 teams made the September 24th outing
and in the end it was the S&S 55 of Simon Egan triumphant with a lot of credit
going to his tire changer Ryan Smith who got the 9th place car to the checkpoint
first and his run to the finish would not be challenged.Post race inspection
found the 55 in violation of the rules and moved the 2nd place running Brett
Bieber into the top spot. Gary Hieber was awarded 2nd and this moved Gary into
the top 5 of the Elite 11 standings. Michael Glass' return to Lindas was a
profitable one as he got 3rd place money.2009 National champion Cody Kline was
4th as Bill Weaver, who has a history of bad luck at Lindas getting 5th.
Geneva,NY's ,Paradise Speedway, for many ,the favorite stop on the tour did not
let anyone down as the big smooth oval, saw some of the fastest racing of the
season with laps turned in excess of 60 MPH.Wiring the field in the 71C was
Caroga Creek regular Cody Clark, but a post race engine claim denial, caused a
DQ of the finish and the win was given to Cody Kline with team mate and car
owner Bill Weaver getting runner-up points. Ben Whitaker, who in his pick and
choose Slingshot schedule, continued to impress as he logged the 25 laps in
3rd.Gary Hieber and Simon Egan were credited with 4th & 5th.
Borgers presentation of the Roy Smith Memorial attracted a record setting 32
cars in 2010,but when 40 cars were pitside for this year's running, the
promotional team of Heckman / Raidline were very thankful for all teams in
attendance and wanted nothing but the best of track surfaces and a solidly run
racing program. They succeeded in all accounts and benefitting from this would
be Flemington,NJ's Matt Carman who took the Slinger Warehouse # 7 under the
checkers first, followed by Gary Hieber right behind him. The 3rd place run by
Brett Bieber, would now make it virtually impossible to be passed for the 2011
crown but one final Pit Stop Challenge event at New Egypt Speedway would delay
the crowning efforts of the Bieber # 32 Racing Team. Kurt Bettler had the Scott
Miller 66 sailing and his 4th place showing would be his best of the season with
Matt Mertz continuing to do what was needed of him to stay on as a contender.
The Fall Jamboree at New Egypt had many pre-race questions regarding speed, track
size, abilty to pass and accident damage. Well after the show was completed the
following became fact. Speeds were in excess of 80 MPH,Travis Bieber and Carl
Labonte passed 9 cars during the course of the program, size of the speedway
added to the excitement and there was not 1 single yellow flag thrown for any
Slingshot qualifier or feature. The benefactor of the best pit stop of the day
was Justin Thompson, who was 6th at the break, getting a quick legal tire change
from his father Mike and was not to be denied his first national win. In what
was one of the strongest drives of the season, it was Travis Bieber, putting the
Buccafusca 43 into the runner-up spot, giving the 43 team the required points to
make the Elite 11,due to NJ State minimum driver age laws.Kyle Hieber, who sat
out much of the 2011 season finished 3rd in the Langhorne Motorsports 47 with
Brett Bieber locking up the title in 4th and 2011 Hamlin Super Class champion
Henry Anderson,Jr. wheeling and dealing his 99 for 5th
The 2011 All Star Elite 11 Championship run saw 156 teams take part in at least
1 event. The Regional tours,Speedweeks mini-series and the weekly point
standings all figured in for the bonus points added to crown an overall National
Champion, as Brett Bieber used his MA Silver bonus points for the title run.
Brett will be getting the Red Carpet treatment at the 2011 Speedway
Entertainment Awards Banquet on Saturday January 7th,2012 at the AACA Museum on
Rt 39 in Hershey, PA.$1200 will await the Bieber Racing Team along with a new
chassis and body. The total point fund has been upped $200 per spot for the All
Stars with 11th getting $500.
Many of the younger racers in the Slingshot by Tobias, have the talent to become
competitive as they move up the racing ladder. These drivers ranging in age from
8 to 14 have no trouble in giving the race fans the show they pay their hard
earned money to see and the 2011 Great 8 Junior National Tour left nothing to be
denied. After Tyler Dippel's 2010 championship run, it was decided to move Tyler
to the All Stars and even into the more powerful sportmans modifieds. The playing
field was wide open and the interest and intensity was there right from the 1st
race on the tour schedule.
June 11th saw the Juniors head to Shellhammers ,but after dual heat qualifying
and 1 lap completed in the A Main, Mother Nature took another one of her
checkers this year and according to the Slingshot rules if a race is not
official or cannot be made up, the dual heat lineup will be used for the finish
and Jared Zionkowski was the benficiary of claiming the opening event of
2011.Taking 2nd was "the Midget" Chris Kurtz, with Tyler Johnston awarded
3rd.Rounding out the top 5 were Brandon McGill and Kyle Gruber.
Next stop was the June 25th Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park 1/5 mile in
Wysox.PA and in convincing fashion the blue 5 of Tyler Johsnton would start his
quest for a title run. Keeping pace with Johnston was Jared Zionkowski who now
had 2 top 2 runs, as Leo McGurrin went under the checker in 3rd.Dylan Martin,
had the Mark Gray 33 in for 4th with a new young talent Abbey Price showing the
world that the 9A would be a strong runner.
The All Star / Junior National combo show at Borgers Speedway on July 22nd,gave
the Juniors a chance to showcase their machines in front of a good size crowd. It
didn't take long for Dylan Martin to put his car out front and eventually into
victory lane as Chris Kurtz tried every trick in his young career's playbook,
but Martin did not waiver. These 2 best of friends rubbed some rails and had a
few bumper taps, but they raced hard and clean and this was a real crowd
pleaser. Kyle Gruber had a bird's eye view and if anything would've happened, he
was there for the taking.Abbey Price claimed another top 5 run with a 4th and
Tyler Johsnton would have the worst finish of the 2011 Junior National season
with a stout running 5th.
Reading's Junior Nostalgia National again produced one that had the fans buzzing
for days. Tyler Johnston,Jared Zionkowski and Chris Kurtz were racing under a
blanket, respect for equipment was shown and a great race resulted as Johsnton
would share the winner's photos with his 2 challengers. Kyle Gruber again with
another top 5 was 4th and new fan favorite Abbey Price grabbed 5th.After this
race it was wide open for the title chase, but Jared Zionkowski who was 3rd in
points at the time sat out the remaining Junior Nationals and the Great 8 was
anyone's after Reading.
A previously rained out Junior National at Kutztown saw the rescheduled date as
part of Fair Week and with a full grandstand, these drivers saw time trials used
for their starting spots. The best field of drivers from Accord,Hamlin, Oakland
Valley, Wyalusing Valley and Shellhammers all converged on the PA Dutch college
town for the 5th race on the tour.2 familiar names were going to surface again
at the head of the pack as Tyler Johnston took win # 3 in the 5 races run and
Chris Kurtz got his 3rd runner-up finish. These young racers ran 16 straight
green flag laps and were awrded with a standing ovation by some of the Kutztown
faithful and the track officials. Chasing the "Dynamic Duo" was Abbey Price who
got a fast closing 3rd with
Dylan Martin and 2011 WVMP champion Alex Shaffer rounding out the top 5.
Hamlin Speedway's September 17th affair can only be described as "all out". This
was a no-holds barred event right from the start as 20110 Hamlin Junior champion
Dylan Martin had something to prove on his territory, but it was Jacob Dunn, who
makes the 3 hour haul from Mohnton, PA ,putting his 74 into the Speedway
Entertainment and Hamlin record books as the winner of the final race of the
2011 Hamlin season. Tyler Johnston chased him to the finish with Martin joining
the top 2 on the podium. Chris Kurtz continued a stellar season earning 4th
place points and the Kevin Gruber maintained Universal Repair 76 with Kyle
Gruber at the wheel 5th.
Rain which was not a favorite word in racing this year struck the Accord Junior
National not once, not twice, but 3 times and with the Juniors on the schedule
as part of the King of the Catskills weekend, the fan base at Accord would have
a chance to witness these younger drivers in action.19 teams took to the big 1/4
mile and for a few this would be the biggest track in many of their young
careers. Michelle Cmapbell brought the field to the green, but Chris Kurtz would
headed to the front in the early going. The X5 was on a mission to possibly take
the Junior National Great 8 championship at the last race. Kurtz took the win
with Tyler Johnston having enough luck to just finish 2nd as the chain would
break 20 feet past the checkered. Dylan Martin would be the 3rd place recipient
as Brandon McGill and Cole Hentschel would get their best runs of the season
with a 4th and 5th.
34 Juniors participated in the tour this season, up from 26 last year. For his
winning efforts the 2011 Junior National Champion Tyler Johnston, who hails from
Napanoch,NY will receive $400 and a new 2011 Slingshot body. Rich Tobias is
adding the new body to the top 3 in the Junior Nationals with Chris Kurtz and
Dylan Martin added to the list.

McGuire Takes Treat at Atomic "Trick or Treat
50"
McWilliams McFast in Mods/ Thompson Takes Hobbys
Sat. Nov. 5, 2011
Atomic Speedway results
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-It was a spooky, nearly full-mooned "Trick or Treat Topless
50" Night, but when all was said and one Grayson, Kentucky's Josh McGuire
tricked the the rest of the field and came home with the $5,000 treat Saturday
night at Chillicothe, Ohio's Atomic Speedway. In the Modified division, second
generation driver Dave McWilliams held off Dave Fireball Pinkerton and in the
Hobby Stocks Brandon Thompson defeated multi-time track champion Jamey Adams.
The 50-lap feature endured only two cautions on a track that was fast and back to multi-groove racing for the endurance of the feature. Ben Adkins by luck of the pill draw led the first two laps with Rod Conley challenging for the top spot. On lap three a caution waved for K-C Burdette who had mechanical difficulties and went pitside setting the stage for a single file restart. On the restart, Jackie Boggs another Kentucky high flyer passed third place Josh McGuire prior to reaching the 'cone' and was whistled for the jump. Under Atomic rules, drivers are penalized two spots at the next caution, leaving a fired up McGuire and and Boggs standing hard on the throttle. A lap later, both passed the two front runners and raced side-by side until lap twenty two when another caution waved.
Boggs was set back in fourth behind Scott James and Rod Conley. On the restart, Boggs quickly zoomed past the next two positions and briefly staged another run at McGuire's GCP Race Engines Mastersbuilt Chassis, however, McGuire had the hot set up and blitzed the rest of the field by over half a lap. Great individual battles highlighted the racing back in the pack. One of the most notable was the battle between track champion Delmas Conley and former champ Jason Montgomery who exchanged positions randomly in side-to-side action for nearly 30 laps of the 50-lap run.
Chad Smith, Scott James, and Freddie Carpenter all had good battles throughout the night and fourth heat winner Ralph Withem had a top ten run end with mechanical problems on lap 32. Carpenter was the hard charger in the Tru-Tech #C-4 in a 15th to 6th place run. Rounding out the top ten were Josh McGuire, Jackie Boggs, Scott James, R.J. Conley, Freddie Carpenter, Chad Smith, Delmas Conley, Jason Montgomery, and Dustin Linville.
McGuire noted, "What a great way to end the season! This engine was great, my car was great, and you could run anywhere on the track. This is a 'Family and Friend Operation, so we take special pride in the wins we get. We'll be back next week if Jeff decides he want to have a race. I know the fans are probably freezin' but I hope everyone is still having fun."
In the modified main pole-sitter Sam Hobbs suffered mechanical woes before the race went green. Dave McWilliams was the beneficiary, moving up to the pole alongside Clint Keenan. McWilliams got the jump and led the first 12 laps when the race's second caution waved. That pitted Rick Hensley on McWilliams' bumper for a dual that went another four laps before Hensley took the lead and started to run off from the pack. Another caution waved on lap 21. On the restart Hensley jumped the cushion and shuffled back to fourth, handing McWilliams back the lead. McWilliams momentarily started to pull away until up-and-coming Dave Fireball Pinkerton kicked it into gear.
The 2011 K-C track champion had battled hard throughout the race, but really started to come on strong late in the race. Pinkerton had his hands full of Clint Keenan, AMRA Champ Kenny Johnson, and 2010 RWT Champion Matt Holcomb for much of the race.
Pinkerton gave chase and closed the gap in the last two laps, but fell short at the finish. Dustin Linville was gaining ground in a 14th to 7th place run, while hard charger of the race Jimmy Lennox came from 18th to 9th. A notable moment of the night was when Bob Crace, Jr. came from 12th to second behind Kenny Carmichael in the second B-main to make the transfer.
Rounding out the top ten were Dave McWilliams, Dave Pinkerton, Matt Holcomb, Rick Hensley, Kenny Johnson, Clint Keenan, Dustin Linville, Jeremy Berwanger, Jimmy Lennox, and Rob Stambaugh.
Said McWilliams, " It has been a rough year and we have struggled a little bit, so it feels really good to end the season on a high note. Thanks to my sponsors aand family and to the fans who turned out tonight. I like this track and hope to be back next year."
In the Hobby Stock feature Brandon Mather and Jamie Adams fought tooth and nail for the top spot. Both drivers have had great seasons and have had some classic battles throughout the year. Adams, the 2011 champ, then broke away for some breathing room until lap eight when talented youngster Brandon Thompson moved into the fold.
Thompson and Adams heated up the battle. Edging closer with each lap, Thompson raced side by side past the flagstand with Adams leadng narrowly on lap twelve. The next circuit saw a repeat this time with Thompson ahead by inches. This time the yellow waved a lap later with Thompson on the point. With time having run out on the clock, Thompson brought home his second straight win. Thompson also ended last season by winning the last two races of the season.
Said lthe young charger, "it is great to be
back in victory lane. Thanks to all my sponsors and all of my fans. If it wasn't
for the fans we wouldn't have a place to race!"
A lot of big things are in store for Atomic Speedway for next season. Please
keep visiting www.kc-raceway.com
until the new website is finished.

TIM SINCLAIR WINS $1500 SUPER PRO FINAL
SUNDAY AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (11/6/11) – Tim Sinclair of Princess Anne, Md.
closed out the 2011 season at the U.S. 13 Dragway Sunday with an exciting final
round win over Mike Jones of Salisbury, Md. The day was especially good for
Sinclair as he picked up $1500 for the victory. Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg,
Md. closed out the year with a $1000 final round win in Pro and James Farmer of
Denton, Md. continued his domination of Pro Bike with a $250 final round
victory. Other winners on the day included: Brian Reibert, Jr. of Snow Hill, Md.
in Street, Harvey Powell of Salisbury in Bike Trophy; Zoe Jackson of Newark, Md.
in Jr. Dragster 1 and Christopher Kahler of Ocean View, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.
The Super Pro final was one of the closest finishes of the day. Tim Sinclair in
his ’68 Camaro had a .004 reaction but Mike Jones was a fraction quicker in his
’01 Undercover dragster with a .003. At the finish line it was less than one
one-thousandth of a second difference as Sinclair took the win with an
8.586/154.71 on an 8.58 dial while Jones ran a 7.518/171.81 on a 7.51 dial-in!
Semi-finalist was Dave Skerrit of Severna Park, Md. who lost to Sinclair while
Jones had the bye.
Phillip Truitt faced Daryl Beauchamp in the Pro final. Truitt had the better
reaction and drove his Chevy Nova to the win with a 10.152/120.09 on a 10.08
dial. Beauchamp ran an 11.495/114.50 on an 11.42 dial. Semi-finalist was John
Donovan of Federalsburg, Md. who lost to Truitt while Beauchamp had the bye.
James Farmer rode up against Bill Kenlon of Pocomoke, Md. in the Pro Bike final.
Farmer took the win with an 8.577/148.68 on an 8.57 dial. Kenlon left early with
a -.052 red light and fouled. Semi-finalists were Eddie Chapman of Pocomoke who

Smith Claims Turkey 200 Presented by Keller Williams Realty on Saturday, November 6 at SSP
Newberrytown, PA (November 5, 2011) – On a clear and sunny afternoon at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, the Turkey 200 was held on Saturday afternoon, November 5, with Lewisberry’s Adam Smith claiming the 125-lap Big Car Enduro at the 8th Annual event. Smith took over the lead on the start. Matt Wampler came from 16th to take the top spot on the 4th circuit but retired from the race on lap 7 with mechanical failure. Smith reclaimed the lead until lap 51 when Kirby Sites slid by Smith as the two encountered lapped traffic. Smith battled back to the lead on the 72nd circuit and race with Sites side-by-side, lap after lap. Sites briefly regained the lead on lap 97, but Smith regained the top spot on lap 99. Sites mounted another challenge, but mechanical issues forced him to retire from the race on lap 115. Smith took the win over Michael Goodwin who would have been in the mix at the end had it not been for an early race spin. Midway through the race, Goodwin put himself back on the lead lap, but was once again a victim of a late race accident on the final two circuits. Dave Goode Sr. finished third, followed by Charles Eckert and Jeffrey Bloch.
In the Small Car enduro, Hanover’s Kyle Rohrbaugh grabbed the early lead and set the pace from the start of the race. As Rohrbaugh weaved through traffic, Daryl Sipe started 16th and worked his way into the runner-up spot on lap 16 and challenged Rohrbaugh for the lead lap 70 only to fall victim to a flat tire after tangling with a lapped car when going for the top spot. Sipe retired from the race. Rohrbaugh went on to take the checkered flag in the 4-cylinder portion of the race over Christopher Holland on the lead lap with Rohrbaugh. Gary Grim finished third, followed by Jim Jacobs and Jimmy Nieman rounding out the top five 4-cylinders.
Justin Mitchell of Littlestown finished on the lead lap in fifth overall and won the 6-cylinder portion of the 75-lap Small Car Enduro. Mike Young finished second with Gus Wurtzler coming home in third.

RACING NEWS THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO BE
Nov. 7, 2011
Labonte ,Willman,Thompson Shine in Fall Jamboree
The New Egypt Speedway track crew prepped a daytime surface that could best be
described as highly raceable. With the sun shining and a steady breeze blowing
the starts and cars of the Slingshot and SpeedSTR classes were running their
last events of the respective National point seasons.
A Pit Stop Challenge 20 was first on the slate as a dual heat format would set
the starting field as Matt Carman would lead the way in the Bill Hocker 54R.The
first 10 laps saw numerous position changes as Carman held on to the top spot
giving him the closest spot to the pit stop checkpoint.
The required pit stop would see the Slingshot jacked up and a right rear tire
completely replaced, with the restart lineup relined by their appearance and
legality at the checkpoint. Mike Thompson put the Justin Thompson # 7 off first
after running 5th at the break.
The remaining 10 laps found Thompson in another area code as the battle behind
him was just heating up. Travis Bieber was summoned to emergency duty aboard the
Buccafusca # 43 and he passed brother Brett and Kyle Hieber for second in a lap
14 outside move that had only Thompson as his next conquest. The yellow would
never fly and the Slinger Warehouse prepared # 7 would find victory lane with
Thompson getting the win. Travis Bieber held on for second with Kyle Hieber
third. Fourth went to OLey,PA's Brett Bieber who would clinch the 2011 All Star
National Championship with his fine run. Rounding out the top 5 was 2011 Hamlin
Super Division champion, Henry Anderson,Jr. in his gold # 99.
With a half field invert the Daylight Savings 12 would be the show of shows for
the Slingshots and taking the win in the Kevin Gruber prepared 76 was Kyle
Gruber. The Lebanon,PA hotshoe just got to the line ahead of Carl Labonte in the
RevStar # 1 and 2011 All Star champion Brett Bieber. With a total run of 44 laps
for the Slingshots, there wasn't one single caution flag flown for these racers.
The Slingshots were making laps in excess of 80 MPH,a testament to the abilities
of these racers
The SpeedSTR were next on the event schedule and the lineup was formed by use of
timed dashs. The Langhorne Motorsports # 6 with Kyle Hieber would set fast time
with Canada winner Brittany Wixon sharing the front row.Hieber took the green
and the race was on as Gary Huber mounted a challenge with Paul Lotier,Jr and
Gary Hieber trailing closely behind. As lap 12 was being put into the books
Huber got out of shape in turn 2 and Lotier closed in on Hieber for one last
run. With the pack closely bunched Matt Harrell passed Scott Munroe and Brittany
Wixon with an against the wall pass coming out of turn 4 and was now the fastest
car on the speedway, but the checker waved above the Kyle Hieber driven orange
Bucks County International SpeedSTR.Lotier would claim second with Gary Hieber
third.SpeedSTR National point contender Yannick Poirier would get 4th with Matt
Harrell grabbing 5th from his 15th place starting spot.
The Run What You Brung heats were won by Tad Cox in the 59 and John Willman in
the Ron and Ann Wilson # 89 "Plexiglass Special".
Round 2 of the Trifecta 15's for the SpeedSTR's would have a 10 car invert, done
by the fan draw, giving Freddie Rahmer the pole position and Gary Huber the
outside pole.It didn't take long for third starter Carl Labonte to take the lead
as he put the RevStar # 14 to the lowside of turn and had the lead heading out
of turn 2.One of the few cautions of the day gave the field another shot at
Labonte on lap 6 and taking advantage of this yellow was Paul Lotier,Jr. who
went from his 9th starting spot to 3rd and was running side by side with Gary
Huber for 7 laps before finally getting past the H&V Racing # 11 and having 3
laps to get by Labonte for the win.A lap 13 spin put the field in single file
mode for the remaining 2 laps and Lotier had a slight advantage over Labonte
heading out of turn 2 but Labonte's low line gave him the needed traction off of
turn 4 for the win.Lotier notched his second runnerup spot of the day with Gary
Huber third,Yannick Poirier forth and Freddie Rahmer 5th.Rahmer was set back for
aggressive driving giving 5th to the Bulldog Art # 5 of Bobby Dmuchowski.
The Jersey Jam 25 was next up with 14 of the 16 entered cars taking the
green. The early race battle between Stan Frankenfield and Tommy Carberry was
quickly joined by John Willman who was putting the Wilson Motorsports # 89
anywhere on the speedway.Tad Cox had his altered 59 on the move and the speed
show was on.Willman grabbed the lead and Cox put a fast time lap of over 100MPH
on the slate on lap 6 getting up to the rear bumper of Willman.Lapped cars were
now becoming involved in the outcome and Willman's patience heading through
traffic was the deciding factor. The 25 lap Run What You Brung main was over in
under 8 minutes as Willman's run netted him $2000 with Cox's run putting $1000
in his pay envelope.Dave Hunt grabbed 3rd in his 27 with Tommy Carberry and
Sammy Piazza taking 4th and 5th.
The final SpeedSTR event of the 2011 season used an 8 car fan pick invert and it
put the Langhorne Motorsports team cars of Gary and Kyle Hieber on the front
row.The brothers swapped the lead for the first 10 laps with Carl Labonte
getting into the mix from his 8th starting spot. The 11th lap now had the
Hieber's,Labonte,Lotier and Dmuchowski all under a blanket and heading 3 wide
into turn 3 Labonte snuck his RevStar racer under Kyle and Gary to take the
lead.Following him through was Lotier and a yellow on the 12th lap had a double
file restart with the $650 win on the line. The front pair headed under the white
flag dead even, but Lotier bobbled heading into turn one giving Labonte the
needed room for the remaining 2 turns and the win.Getting under the 4X of Lotier
was Gary Hieber who would run of out laps to challenge Labonte. The Quebec,Canada
driver would record a SpeedSTR double with Gary Hieber and Lotier taking the
remaining podium spots.Kyle Hieber took 4th and Bobby Dmumchowski also recorded
his 2nd top five of the afternoon.A last lap battle between Scott Munroe,Yannick
Poirier,Yannick Mathieu ,Brittany Wixon and Brandon Rahmer came down to the
transponder scoring as these 5.were that close.
The Great American Enduro 100 was a real crowd pleaser as early race leader
Richie Cass,Jr.would plant his # 1 four cylinder right up against the turn 4 and
turn 1 wall to take a 3 lap lead before lap 30 was completed.Cass tangled in a
turn 1 spin setting off his car's airbags and with the deployed airbag in his
lap he soldiered on until finally having a flat tire and eventually no tire
forcing him to the sidelines on lap 68.Randy Nelson inherited the lead he had
lost to Cass, but the Saturn # 15 of Steve Wilson had other plans as he passed
Nelson on lap 74 and would not be denied the win.Nelson would be the big car
class winner in the 54.The Great American Enduro Series would name Mark
Naftzinger who finished 2nd in the big car class,as
the 2011 Big Car point champion.John Crosby who put his 49 in for a 5th place
Small Car run would be named the 2011 Small Car Champion.
Champions Day at New Egypt would see Yannick Poirier named the 2011 SpeedSTR
National Champion and Brett Bieber would be crowned the 2011 All Star Slingshot
by Tobias National Champion.
