Stroud, Trimboli and Nowak Win to Close out Mountain Speedway Season
By: Gene Ostrowski
November 5, 2011

St. Johns, Pa- With Winter approaching, the final racing event of the season was held Saturday at Mountain Speedway. With championships on the line, Walter Stroud and Steve Trimboli drover off to wins in the 150-lap Mountain Madness Enduro Series events and Kevin Nowak took his second straight INEX Legends victory. With a healthy advantage over his competition, Alex McCollum drove off with the Bandolero victory.

Eyeing his second straight championship, TJ Kapish came into the day as the points leader in the 6/8-cylinder enduro division. He started from the pole and led the opening circuit of the 150-lap double points paying event over Tom Szoke, James Pressley, Walter Stroud and Scott Sipe.

Stroud climbed to second and then took the lead from Kapish on lap 18. Meanwhile, Rob McCormick and Dominic Ranieri moved into the top five. McCormick worked his way into second and then battled with Stroud for the top spot. He completed the pass for the lead on lap 32 and Stroud slipped back to second.

The first and only red flag of the afternoon flew on lap 50 when Szoke climbed the protective foam and guiderail in turn one. Track crews took his car from the wall and Szoke continued in the event.

With the green flag back out, trouble struck McCormick on lap 57 and his machine began to dump fluid on the speedway. He headed to the pits and retired from the race. The turn of events gave the lead back to Stroud.

Behind the wheel of a four cylinder Mercedes, Steve Trimboli rocketed up to the second spot. He grabbed the race lead from Stroud on lap 67 and began to distance himself from the field. With just over 50 laps remaining, Trimboli held the lead, followed by Stroud, Shaun Burd, Don Carasiti and TJ Kapish.

It appeared that Trimboli would take the victory, but Stroud closed in fast. The pair ran side by side toward the checkered flag on the final lap and Stroud came out on top. Trimboli settled for second, followed by Carasiti, Burd and Kapish, who clinched his second straight championship.

Sam Ryan started from the pole position in the 150-lap 4 cyl. Enduro and led the opening lap over Tony Rispin, Bruce Miller, Justin Martinson and Larry Spencer III. Trimboli cracked the top five early and then climbed to the second spot with Robert Fink in tow.

Looking for his second straight championship, Ken Harper motored toward the front of the pack. However, lady luck didn’t shine on Harper and he lost a right front wheel, which forced him out of the show on lap 25.

Ryan continued out front on lap 40 and had to contend with both, Trimboli and third place, Rispin, as the trio ran nose to tail lap after lap. Rispin finally overtook the leader on lap 86 and Trimboli followed. Trimboli has his shot at the lead on lap 93 and both he and Ryan swapped the spot before Ryan was back in command.

Many laps passed before Trimboli regained the top spot on lap 148. He went on to take his first victory at the speedway over Ryan, Rispin, Fink and Spencer.

Rispin, who appeared to have a car to beat earlier in the race, had mechanical problems and his car limped around the track in the closing laps. In a gallant effort to endure the situation, Rispin clinched his first enduro championship.

Cole Fuatesi Started from the pole position and was overtaken by Carl Jones before a lap was complete in the 30-lap INEX Legends Fall Championship. With one lap in the books, Scott Hubler held second, followed by Raven Schrantz, Rob McCormick and Kevin Nowak.

Hubler took the race lead on the second lap and then Nowak, who had climbed to second, challenged him. Nowak made the pass stick and Hubler dropped to second.

Hubler made several attempts to retake the lead in doing so, brought out the yellow flag on lap 17 when he spun in turns three and four. Nowak continued to lead at that point, trailed by Kyle Soper, Tony Hanbury, Schrantz and Jones.

Green flag racing resumed and Nowak seemed untouchable over the closing laps, as he drove off with his second straight victory at the speedway. Hanbury, who had climbed to second earlier, was forced to settle for second, followed by Schrantz, Zach Truesdail and Jones.

Despite his DNF, Hubler took the championship, which was his second in three seasons at the speedway.

Heat race victories went to Kyle Soper and Kevin Nowak

Jared Landers Ready for World Finals at Charlotte

Batesville, Arkansas (11/02/11) – On the heels of a series of strong runs in late-season specials Jared Landers is locked and loaded for this weekend's 5th Annual Lowes Foods World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

The team returned to the state of Mississippi over the course of last weekend for the 8th Annual Southern Belle Cotton Pickin' 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). Sixty-six Super Late Models registered for action, and in time trials, Jared was fifth fastest in his group to earn the second starting spot for his heat race alongside pole-sitter, Jason Cliburn. Landers would jump to the lead at the drop of the green flag, and never looked back on his way to the heat win, which locked him into the third starting spot for the main event. On Saturday night for the first half of the 100 lap, $15,000-to-win feature Landers would battle at the front of the pack with Jonathan Davenport and Billy Moyer. As the race progressed the handle began to go away on his mount as he slipped to a seventh place finish at the checkered flag. Full results are available at www.MagnoliaDirt.com.

This weekend, November 3rd-5th, the team will turn their attention to the 5th Annual Lowes Foods World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina) as Jared takes his #777 Crawford Supply/Rocket/ECR Racing Engines Super Late Model into battle in the World of Outlaws-sanctioned event. The event kicks off on Thursday night with two rounds of qualifying with the first round of qualifying determining the lineups for Friday's $10,000-to-win event and the second round of qualifying determines the lineups for Saturday's $10,000-to-win finale. Landers had a strong run going at the state-of-the-art facility last month during a World of Outlaws event before a broken axle late in the event ended his night. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- - -THANK YOU SENT ON BEHALF OF BOB MILLER (443) 513-4456 CONTACT: DAVE ELY 484 794-2993
Be A Better Racer Driving and Chassis School Announces an All Star Lineup of Teachers
January 8, 2012 will be the date for the inaugural Be A Better Racer Driving and Chassis School at the Cork Factory Hotel in Lancaster, PA. The event is being organized by veteran sprint car driver and DMI/Bulldog Rear Sales Manager, Dave Ely and his wife Jennifer. Dave stated, “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and finally decided to do it. Our teaching lineup is more than I could have imagined. I’ve already told my staff I expect them to hold nothing back! I can’t wait for the 8th!”
Three separate classes will be held for Dirt Late Models, DIRT Modifieds and Winged Sprint Cars. All divisions of each class can benefit from attending the class.
The day will begin with the late model chassis and driving school. Teaching the 9am class will be veteran driver Booper Bare and successful crew chief Huey Wilcoxon. Booper is one of the all-time best late model shoes in the region and Wilcoxon is coming off another stellar year with driver Jamie Lathroum. In addition, Huey sells the Mastersbilt by Huey Chassis and Integra MBH Shocks that have been increasingly popular among late model racers. Ely commented, “I’m ecstatic to have Booper and Huey. Not only are they veteran, successful racers, but they have teaching experience. It should be a great class.”
The second class of the day will be at 12:30 and will focus on DIRT modifieds. Teaching the class will be one of the best DIRT Modified drivers of all time, “The Doctor” Danny Johnson and his car owner/crew chief Mike Payne. Danny and Mike are coming off another successful season that included a win in the Eastern States 200 and the 358 Super DIRT Championship. Dave said, “What do I need to say about the Doctor? He’s as good as they come, on any night, in any division, there’s no one better. Mike has a long history in the sport. Like Huey, he’s always on the cutting edge in chassis and shock technology. His Quick Time Shock business is used by many top racers.”
The third and final class of the day begins at 4pm and focuses on winged sprint cars. Instructing the class will be one of the world’s top sprint car racers over the last fifteen years Greg Hodnett, and his renowned mechanic, Lethal Lee Stauffer. Again this past season, they were the leading winners in the area including victories against the World of Outlaws and the All Stars. Ely talked about his sprint car staff, “Greg is going to be great. He’s beaten them all and proven year after year that he can get the job done. Lethal will be great also. He works really hard to be one of the last creative minds in the sport.”
Each class will be three hours in length. The end of each session will be an extensive question and answer session. The class is designed for the driver and a crew member to attend and focuses on the importance of good communication to a winning program. Each student will receive a text book full of information, maintenance schedules, set-up sheets and manufacturer’s coupons. In addition to the school, DMI/Bulldog Rears will be hosting an attendee only open house. The classes will be limited in size and are expected to fill up quickly. The cost for the driver and crew member team to attend is only $179.95. Ely commented, “We really want to offer our students a big bang for the buck. With the manufacturer coupons, the fee to attend the class becomes virtually nothing and the knowledge gained is priceless.” For more information visit www.BeABetterRacer.com or call (484)794-2993. For Immediate Release

Richards Ready to Bid for Third Straight World of Outlaws Late Model Series Title and Single-Season Win Record at World Finals

SHINNSTON, W. Va. - Nov. 1, 2011 - Josh Richards has a lot riding on this weekend's fifth annual Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals presented by Tom's Snacks, Coca-Cola and Nature's Own at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C. The 23-year-old from Shinnston, W. Va., will chase history during the World of Outlaws Late Model Series portion of the three-day program, which also features the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds.

With a victory in one of the weekend's two 50-lap WoO LMS A-Mains, Richards would establish a new single-season win record on the national tour. What's more, two solid outings could bring him an unprecedented third consecutive World of Outlaws points championship.

Richards enters the big weekend, which begins with two rounds of time trials during Kellogg's Qualifying Night on Thursday (Nov. 3) and continues with full programs of heats, Last Chance Races and A-Mains on Friday (Nov. 4) and Saturday (Nov. 5), with plenty of confidence. Charlotte, after all, is a track that agrees with Richards, who trails WoO LMS standings leader Rick Eckert by 14 points.

"There's no other place I'd rather end the season," Richards said of the state-of-the-art speedway. "There are a lot of great racetracks out there, but being at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, it's an awesome track and a great facility, and it's in the heart of stock car racing. It's also one of the few tracks capable of holding an event so big and doing it justice.

"The World Finals is my favorite weekend of the year," he continued. "In my opinion, it's become the biggest show of the year in terms of a whole short-track event. It's really fun for a driver and especially a fan - there's just so much going on in every class. I love just being a part of it."

Richards has enjoyed plenty of success at The Dirt Track - especially during the World Finals. He has finished outside the top 10 just once in eight A-Main starts during the season-ending classic: a 12th-place finish in last year's first feature, which was run during the afternoon after rain forced the postponement of Friday night's action. He won the second A-Main in 2008 - making him the first, and still only, WoO LMS regular to win a feature during the World Finals - and spent the 2009 edition outdueling Steve Francis for the series title and the 2010 doubleheader racing Darrell Lanigan for the crown.

Richards enters this year's World Finals just three weeks removed from a dominating victory in the World of Outlaws Late Model Showdown at The Dirt Track. The triumph was his ninth of the 2011 campaign, tying him with Scott Bloomquist (2004) for the single-season win record.

Richards and his Seubert Calf Ranches/Kentucky Fuel Corporation Rocket Chassis team are well-prepared for a dramatic championship battle with Eckert at the four-tenths-mile oval.

"I'm prepared to race hard and give what it takes to win a third championship," said Richards. "It will be a nice bookend on my dirt career as I move over to the NASCAR Truck Series full time in 2012." He's running a limited NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule this season for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

"The biggest thing with these last races is to just keep on racing like we have all year - just like it's another race, and with the goal of winning the race. I'm sure Rick (Eckert) is gonna be in contention for a win every night too, so we just have to try to finish ahead of him. That's our game plan."
