K-C Tune-Up Sees McGuire Master
Aukland Aces Road Warrior Challenge/Thompson Tops in Hobbys
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Zanesville, Ohio driver Rick Aukland has his eye on the Dirt
Track World Championship coming later this week, October 13-14-15, but Saturday
night he had his sights on victory lane for the AMRA Road Warrior Challenge,
roaring to the 30-lap $1,200 payday over a field of 38 cars. Afterall, Aukland
has won the modified portion of the DTWC, the Jim Dunn Memorial twice, but never
the big one. Saturday, Oct. 15 he hopes all that changes.
In the AMRA Late Models Josh McGuire took advantage of a torrid Delmas Conley-Donnie Moran battle to reel in the duo and claim the $2,000 win. Brandon Thompson claimed the 20-lap Hobby Stock feature. Veteran Doug Henry, Beverly, Ohio claimed the tight Road Warrior title over Deana Groves, while Dave Fireball Pinkerton, Chillicothe, Ohio narrowly claimed the K-C Raceway Modified title over Jeremy Rayburn. Delmas Conley, Wheelersburg, won the Late Model title for the second year in a row, while Jamey Adams claimed the Hobby Stock title.
Said Aukland in victory lane, "The car has been good all night. Lightning Chassis builds a good race car; it ran really good tonight. I just have fun with this car; my owners and crew give me a great car and I just go out and do the driving. We will be back next week."
With the K-C points title on the line, and the Road Warrior title, the drama was intense as a race to make the feature was the first order of business. Doug Henry was just four points ahead of young racer Deana Groves. Henry raced his way into the feature, while groves suffered a series of setbacks and had to take a provisional starting slot.
Said Groves, "We
needed a little luck tonight and all we had was bad luck. We did everything we
could to get in position to win the title; we got to travel around, meet a lot
of interesting people, race with the best, and have fun. It is a big deal to
finish second to someone like Doug Henry. We have had a great year and I
congratulate Doug."
Groves crashed out in the feature in no fault of her own.
Jeremy Rayburn had a similar fate. He trailed Pinkerton by just 15 points in the race for the track championship. Both drivers raced their way into the feature, so the battle would be decided with the features outcome.
Rayburn, who was a
feature winner, this season really came on strong late in the season, losing
another feature bid narrowly only a few weeks ago.
Rayburn, the son in a competitive father-son duo, had a season ending surge, and
Saturday did what he had to do. But sometimes, taking care of business is not
enough as he fell just nine points shy at the finish.
"We had a good season," said Rayburn. "The car was really good tonight. Thanks to my Dad and crew and girlfriend. It felt good to come on strong at the end and to finish second against this group of drivers."
Said track champion and colorful racing personality Pinkerton, "It feels great to be the K-C Track Champion. It was a tough year. Jeremy (Rayburn) wouldn't let me rest a minute. He gave me a good battle. I'd like to thank all the K-C fans. We worked hard this week and took care of some issues we had with the car. Thanks to all my sponsors, especially Horizon; just everyone who made this possible. We have been pretty fortunate and I'm grateful."
Pinkerton had a scare in warm-ups when his car slowed amid a cloud of smoke. Fearing engine problems, Pinkerton and crew found a blown rear-end housing, replaced it in time to qualify and came home fifth--good enough to win the championship.
On the AMRA front a crowd gathered to honor its once retired champion Doug Henry. "It feels pretty good. I thank all the guys that help me. They wouldn't let me retire two years ago so here I am. We had some ups and downs, but overall it has been a great season. Deena gave me a good run and is a good racer."
Joe Cox, of Beckley
brought home third. Said the longtime AMRA standout, "I thank all those that
support me, my crew and my lovely wife for getting us here."
Racing was spectacular just about everywhere on the track except where Aukland
secured the point. Rayburn was securely in second, but Aukland's mount was a
little better out of the gate on the three race-ending restarts. Keith Smith was
among one of those flying on the high-side, while Kenny Johnson, the in-house
"High-side Flyer" was on the move, sparks a flying after numerous brushes with
the wal. Smith was hard charger in a 17th to 10th run, while Johnson, averting a
lap one spin dropped back toward the end of the pack. That set the stage for a
run to 7th.
Newcomers, Shon Flannery and Dustin Linville battled tooth-and-claw most of the race with Pinkerton anchoring fifth. Prior to a lap 26 restart, Kenny Johnson, Jess Hartman, and Doug Henry engaged in a four-way battle that could have possibly cost Pinkerton the championship. While Pinkerton was smooth in his line Hartman, Johnson, and Henry traded paint in a good old-fashioned dual.
Linville, pulling off a late race heat win over Tanner Wilson, was the surprise of the night, bringing his mount home third. In victory lane prior to his transition to his late model, the youngser said, "This is a nice track and it is good to be hear, I'm ready to go get in the late model."
The finish trickled down like this: Rick Aukland, Jeremy Rayburn, Dustin Linville, Shon Flannery, Dave Pinkerton, Jess Hartman, Kenny Johnson, Doug Henry, Tanner Wilson, Keith Smith, Rob Stambaugh, Cling Keenan, Dave Jamison, Joe Cox, Bob Crace, Jr., J.C. Casto, Mark Bailey, Steven Duty, Deena Groves, J.P. Roberts, Brian Whiteman, Eric Hatfield.
The AMRA had two provisionals and K-C had two provisionals, thanks to Renp's Lawn Service and Water Express, who stepped up to the plate to allow the K-C contingent a chance to race for championship points.
Sparks were flying both on the track and in the cockpit in the competitive Late Model main. Delmas Conley, former track champ and National Hall of Famer, blasted into the lead over Beckley invader Ricky Williams. Williams had a strong night in one of his few visits to the K-C high banks, but didn't have the initial zap for Conley. Mike Wilson, the second place points contender, rallied for a great early run, but faded later in the race. On lap ten Million Dollar Man Donnie Moran challenged Conley in what would prove to be a trade of high-speed slide jobs. Moran took the lead for the final time on lap15 forcing Conley to back down.
Conley and Moran made huge contact at the flag stand as the #71 lifted Moran, who had to take strategic evasive action and made the save of the year. Meanwhile, McGuire was the beneficiary as he blitzed by on lap 16 and raced to the win.
Said McGuire, "I didn't know if I could catch them (Moran and Conley) for a while. They started racing hard and that helped me out. I decided to get some heat in my right front and go after them, and the car just took off."
Jason Montgomery suffered some problems in his heat and had to start 16th, then raced to 6th for hard charger honors. Rod Conley came on strong late in the race to challenge dad Delmas and post a strong third. Rounding out the line-up were Feature: Josh McGuire, Donnie Moran, Rod Conley, Delmas Conley, Ricky Williams, Jason Montgomery, Mike Wilson, Steve Prince, Dustin Linville, Devin Moran, Dylan Huron, Barry Doss, Paul Davis, Rod Evans, Ken Howell, Dwight Henry, Shannon Roese, Russ Frohnapfel, Brandon Fouts, and Chad Stapleton .
Champion Jamey Adams
and McArthur's Brandon Thompson dualed for much of the first eight laps, then
young Thompson broke away and ran off to an easy win.
Evan Seitz challenged for second in the latter stages of the race after an
earlier battle with Brandon Mather and Davey Akers. Jim Hildebrand, Mike Brust,
and Tommy Mossbarger raced hard for position after Davey Akers exited the group
for fifth.
At the finish it was Brandon Thompson, Jamey Adams, Evan Seitz, Brandon Mather, Davey Akers, Jim Hildebrand, Mike Brust, Tommy Mossbarger, Roger Mossbarger, Jack Martin, Tim Cutler, Butch Eblin, Quentin Lewis, Harvey McGowan, David White, Joe Buskirk, Jeff Sheets, and Cort Fisher.
"The track was great tonight," asserted Thompson. "The car was great. I'd like to thank my family and crew for all of their support and thank Jeff for this race track. Also, Without all of you fans it wouldn't be possible for us to have a place to race. It's good to be back."
"Also, thanks to all of my sponsors including Buffalo dip. They all make this race team successful."
K-C hosts the Dirt
Track World Championship later this week October 13-14-15th.

Kyle Beard To Make CCSDS Title Bid This Saturday
Trumann, AR (10/06/11) – After a season full of ups and downs, Kyle Beard will
take his #86 Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Samuels Performance Racing
Engine Super Late Model into battle on Saturday for the final COMP Cams Super
Dirt Series (CCSDS) event of the year as he makes a bid at his first tour
championship.
After leading the points for the first half of the season, Beard ran into
several bouts of bad luck during the middle of the season, and heading into the
COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) finale he trails point's leader, Brandon
Smith, by 24 points. Beard will get one last shot to overcome the deficit in the
5th Annual Bartlett Hardwood Floor Service Midsouth Dirt Track Championship this
Saturday at Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas). Beard,
who is a former champion of the event, will be looking to become a repeat
winner. The $2,000-to-win/$400-to-start event will feature time trials, heat
race action, b-mains, and a 35 lap finale. For more information on the event,
please visit www.COMPDirt.com and
www.RiversideInternationalSpeedway.com .
Kyle was last in action last Saturday night with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series
at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) in another $2,000-to-win event. With 23
cars registered, Kyle started the night by winning his heat race, which earned
him the outside front row starting spot for the 35 lap feature alongside
pole-sitter, Wendell Wallace. In the feature Beard would battle the setup as he
slipped back to a sixth place finish behind race winner, Wallace, Jon Kirby,
Stacy Taylor, Curtis Cook, and Jon Mitchell. Full results and the latest
standings are available at www.COMPDirt.com.
Kyle Beard would like to thank his sponsors including KB Transport, Gary Beard

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
HOUSE OF THUNDER HALLOWEEN PARTY & GRANDVIEW THUNDER 5-25'S. . . .
TRICK OR TREAT REVENGE DRAW TO DETERMINE MODIFIED STARTING LINE-UP SATURDAY,
OCTOBER 15 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will close out their 2011
season on Saturday night, October 15 with the House of Thunder Halloween Party
and Grandview Thunder 5-25's. This features only program has been wildly popular
in the past and is expected to live up to every expectation this year. The five
division features only program will showcase the 358 Modifieds, URC Sprints,
ARDC Midgets, Sportsman and Legends along with the Vince's Towing Legend Owners
Race, the Garden State Vintage Cars and a Monster Smash Demolition Derby. The
show will all get underway at 6 PM.
An added twist to the show will be the Trick or Treat Revenge Redraw for the
modifieds. This is how it works. The modifieds will compete in timed warm-ups to
determine the starting line-up that will lead to the Trick or Treat Revenge
Redraw. The top eight drivers in times will redraw for the top eight starting
positions in the 25 lap feature event. The twist is this, the fast time of the
night will be first to draw, the driver then takes his draw number and he must
give it to anyone of the other seven drivers. That draw number could be a trick
or a treat for the driver receiving that number. Second fast time of the night
will be next to draw and he will hand off that number to anyone of the remaining
drivers. The draw will continue until all eight numbers are assigned. So in
fact, the top eight drivers in times will determine the top eight starting
spots. Positions ninth through twenty will line-up according to their times from
warm-ups.
Fans have an option to be treated with some hard cash thanks to Jim Gallagher
and VERTICAL Wave Telephone Systems. The best costumes of the night will earn
$75, $50 and $25 to the best three dressed spectators of the show. So race fans,
use your imagination and dress up for the Halloween Party. Palmer Candy of
Reading will also be offering plenty of Halloween candy at the front gate as
well.
The features only event will begin at 6 PM with the 25 lap Palmer Candy Legends
feature followed by the ARDC Midgets, the 10 lap Vince's Towing Legend Owners
race and BFP Specialty Sportsman feature. There will be warm-ups for the
Modifieds and URC Sprints followed by the 12 lap Vintage Car feature. The
nightcap will showcase the $3,000 to win BPG 25 lap 358 Modified feature and the
$3,000 to win PPB URC Feature. The homestretch will then transform to be the
battleground for the Monster Smash Demolition Derby.
With the new twist of the Trick or Treat Revenge Redraw, it will be very
interesting to see how the top eight spots line-up in the feature. So let's
think about this. If Craig VonDohren should have fast time of the night and
draws the #8 pill, what driver will be tricked and receive the eight starting
spot? Better yet, if VonDohren draws the pole. . . . . . which driver will get
this treat? A talented field of drivers will make-up the twenty guaranteed
starters in the 25 lap BPG $3,000 to win modified feature. Jeff Strunk, Duane
Howard, Kevin Hirthler, Mike Gular and Ryan Godown, Doug Manmiller have accepted
the invitation to be in this season closing show on the hill. Warm-ups will be
very important this year for the modifieds as they'll be racing against the
clock to determine their starting position in the feature followed by the Trick
or Treat Revenge Redraw to line-up the top eight spots.
URC will have their point championship decided in their twenty-five lap feature
that will include four time winner this season JJ Grasso, defending and seven
time URC champion Curt Michael, Dave Ely, Kramer Williamson, Ed Aikin, Robbie
Stillwaggon and Randy West. The URC feature sponsored by PPB will pay $3,000 but
there is more. If the winner is running Viper-Venom fuel and has their decal
displayed, an additional $1,000 bonus will go to the winner.
In the BFD Specialty Sportsman field, entries include Mike Loney, Doug
Hendricks, Kevin Beach, Jared Umbenhauer, Brad Brightbill, Sammy Piazza and Mike
Mammana. The sportsman will also follow the format of timed warm-ups to
determine the starting line-up. In the ARDC line-up, expect Steve, Tim and Bruce
Buckwalter, Ryan Watt, Eric Heydenreich, Ryan Smith and Brett Arndt. Last by not
least, Legend entries include Scott Gobrecht, Harlon Leppo, Tim Henry and Mike
Roberts.
More than 120 race cars will fill the Grandview pits for this very unique racing
program that will showcase five premier divisions of dirt track racing to close
out the season.
Legend Owners are asked to pre-enter the Vince's Towing event by calling Bob
Miller at 443-513-4456. Please be sure to provide you name and car number.
It's a big night of racing filled with talented drivers and great racing along
with some special trick or treat activities. Race fans are encouraged to dress
up for Halloween and join the feature winners in the always joyous victory lane.

Gold and Blue plate. It was Bullis’ first ever-Gold race where he also captured
the pole.
From the preferred starting spot, Bullis showed Gold racers perfectly for
20-laps before leading them under waving checkered flags. Bullis pocketed $300

In the Blue feature Bullis fought his way from four karts down to take the lead.
After taking the lead on lap four Bullis escaped his closest pursuers by half of

Austin Hubbard Claims Top Ten in Knoxville Late Model Nationals
Seaford, Delaware (10/05/11) – Austin Hubbard took part in the 8th Annual Lucas
Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals over the weekend in his #19 Beitler
Enterprises/Rocket/Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model, and came away with a
top ten finish in the season's richest event.
After what has been a rough year so far, Austin enjoyed a great run on Thursday
night in the opening event of the 8th Annual Knoxville Lucas Oil Late Model
Nationals. Sixty-four cars entered the $7,000-to-win event, and Hubbard started
the night by qualifying third fastest in time trials. With the top ten cars
being inverted in each heat race, Austin started tenth on the grid before
storming past Billy Moyer on the next to last lap to claim the heat race win to
lock into the sixth starting spot for the main event.
In the feature Austin would quickly work his way into the top five and by lap
ten he was up to the third spot. Over the remainder of the event passing would
become difficult and Hubbard would challenge Darrell Lanigan for the second spot
on several occasions before settling for a third place finish behind race
winner, Jimmy Owens, and Darrell Lanigan.
Friday night saw the second round of the 8th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late
Model Nationals held at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa). Sixty Super Late
Models entered the $7,000-to-win, program, and the night would start well as
Hubbard qualified second fastest to only Scott Bloomquist. Once again the top
ten cars were inverted for heat race action, so Austin started 10th in the
second heat. Early in the heat he would struggle to make up much ground, but as
it progressed he began marching forward. Unfortunately, bad luck would strike
with just one lap remaining, when his engine expired bringing his night to an
early end.
Despite Friday night's bad luck, Austin amassed enough points on Thursday night
to lock into the outside front row starting spot for the 100 lap, $40,000-to-win
finale in the 8th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals. He was joined
on the front row by Brian Birkhofer, and as the race went green, it was Austin,
who bolted to the lead. He would pace the field for the first 23 circuits before
Don O'Neal slipped past for the lead. Over the next several laps Austin would
battle in the top five slipping as far back as the fourth spot before charging
back to the second spot just past the halfway point. Hubbard looked to be on his
way to a definite, runner-up finish before contact with the lapped car of Brady
Smith, bent the left front of Austin's entry, making it handle not as well. As a
result, over the closing laps he would slip to a seventh place finish. Full
weekend results are available at
www.LucasDirt.com.
Austin will return to action on Thursday night, October 6th at Rolling Wheels
Raceway (Elbridge, NY) as the World of Outlaws Super Late Model tour resumes
their 2011 season. The event will be headlined by a $10,000 to win feature.
Hubbard is seventh in the latest tour standings. For more information, please

Chub Frank Not Happy After Controversial Ruling Costs Him Shot At Brushcreek
Motorsports Complex Victory
BEAR LAKE, PA – Oct. 4, 2011 – Chub Frank was in position last Saturday night to
capture a big victory for the second consecutive week, but a controversial
ruling ended his hopes for glory in the first of the two 50-lap features that
comprised the ‘Billy Bob Classic’ at Bruchcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles,
Ohio.
And not surprisingly, the hard-nosed veteran driver from Bear Lake, Pa., wasn’t
happy about his fate.
Coming off his richest win in two years one week earlier at Pennsylvania’s
McKean County Raceway, Frank had his bright-orange Corry Rubber/Hino
Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* back in the fast groove during the two-day
show at Bruschcreek. He won a heat race on Friday night and on Saturday evening
needed just a handful of laps to move from the third starting spot to the lead
in the first 50-lap feature, which offered an $8,000 top prize.
Frank found himself in a tight battle for the top spot with Eddie Carrier Jr.
and Jacob Hawkins while racing through lapped traffic on lap 39. That’s when
‘Chubzilla’ made an aggressive move to split two lapped cars in turn one but
made contact with Ron Davies – the lapped car on the outside – that sent Davies
into a spin. Frank maintained control of his car and continued on without
stopping as the caution flag flew, but during the slowdown period track
officials sent him to the rear of the field, citing the event rule that
penalizes drivers who spin out another car.
While Frank eventually restarted at the back of the pack and managed an
eighth-place finish, he strongly disagreed with the track’s call.
“I understand that the ruling there is that if you spin a car out, then you go
to the tail,” said Frank. “But that’s if you go spin him out on purpose. Now, I
did spin Davies out, but common sense would tell you that I didn’t do it on
purpose – there was three guys racing for the lead, and stuff’s gonna happen. I
didn’t go in there and spin him out like they apparently thought I did.
“We were racing for the lead, Davies was on the outside going two laps down, and
there was another lapped car on the inside. The second- and third-place cars
were all over me, so I had to go. If I lift, I get passed, so I tried to split
(Davies and the other lapped car) and I caught Davies with my right door. Behind
the right tire is where I hit him and what spun him out…it was just racin’.”
Frank noted that in his three-plus decades of racing, he had never been banished
from the lead for causing a lapped car to spin. He doesn’t understand why that
type of ruling would be made.
“I guess they don’t want you to race,” Frank said of the Brushcreek officials.
“I guess they just want you to get passed instead of trying to make a move.
There’s no move-over flag (for the lapped cars when the leader approaches), and
then they expect you to get by lapped cars without ever touching them when
you’re racing for the lead in traffic.
“That just seems crazy to me. It wasn’t like it was a position car that I went
in and just spun out to take the lead. I made a move in traffic that I had to
make to try and keep the lead and there was some contact with a lapped car. That
kind of hard racin’ is supposed to be the whole point of why people come to see
the races.”
Frank also wasn’t happy about an inconsistency in the officials’ application of
the ruling that he noticed during the night.
“O.K., I’m mad about it, but I can deal with the rule to a point…except that in
the B-Main, the second-place guy spun the leader out on the last lap and they
didn’t do nothing about it,” said Frank. “And that was for position to make the
race, so I don’t know what to think.
“It’s not a problem, though, because I’ll never go back there. Not with those
kind of rules. The person who takes care of the racetrack (surface) there does a
helluva job – I’ve got to say that – but on the officiating end, they just seem
to have no clue about what racing’s all about.
“It was just a bad deal,” he continued. “It cost me a lot of money. It took food
off my table. I feel like the worst we were gonna finish was probably second, so
that was a tough deal to take.”
Frank did come back strong in the second 50-lap ‘Billy Bob Classic’ feature,
which paid $12,000 to win. He marched forward from the 10th starting spot to
place third.
“The car actually was better in the second one, but the problem was it just got
hard to pass in the end,” said Frank. “The two cars ahead of me, Greg Johnson
and Jackie Boggs, were good, and it was just too hard to clear them.”
Frank will return to action on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series this
Thursday night (Oct. 6) at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y. A
winner at the five-eighths-mile oval in 2005, Frank plans to debut a brand-new
Rocket Chassis machine with a Roush-Yates engine under the hood on Thursday
evening as he seeks to maintain his fifth-place position in the WoO LMS points
standings.

USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series
USAC WEST COAST 360 "CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY" AT TULARE
By Lance Jennings
SANTA MARIA, CA – OCTOBER 4, 2011... This Saturday night, October 4th, the
championship for the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series will be settled at
Steve Faria's Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. Also featured
on the action packed showcase will be the winged ASCS Southern California
Sprints, IMCA Stock Cars, and Vintage Super Modifieds. The Pit Gates are open
all day, Spectator Gates will open at 5:00pm, with Time Trials at 6:00pm, and
Racing scheduled for 7:00pm.
Heading into Saturday's event, Visalia's Richard VanderWeerd holds a fifty-five
point lead over Ryan Bernal of Hollister. While that lead is substantial for
VanderWeerd, Bernal still has a shot at the title and anything can happen in
Sprint Car Racing.
Piloting the family owned #10 VanderWeerd Construction / Battery Worx Maxim,
Richard VanderWeerd has maintained the point lead since the July 16th
doubleheader at Hanford. The last time out, VanderWeerd scored fourth at
Hanford's 30-lap feature on September 24th. In 2011, Richard leads the series
with three Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards and thirteen top-10 finishes. In
addition, the young driver has one feature win, three heat race victories, one
Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award, and seventeen main event laps led. Richard
will be looking to win the title with a main event victory on Saturday.
Driving Danny Olmstead's #11D S&S Automotive / Dorso's Automotive Maxim, Ryan
Bernal is second in the championship points. The newly crowned Santa Maria track
champion claimed his series leading (tied) fourth main event win of the season
at Hanford on September 24th. Bernal also has one Sander Engineering Fast Time
Award, three heat race victories, eleven top-10 finishes, and 143 feature laps
led in 2011. The former Wingless Spec Sprint Champion will be looking for the
win and earning as many points as possible to take the crown away from
VanderWeerd.
"Wide Open" Wes Gutierrez of San Martin is third in the point chase. Piloting
the WG Motorsports' #007 ButlerBuilt / Competition Suspension Inc. DRC,
Gutierrez raced to fifth from his ninth starting spot at Hanford on September
24th. The Jim Turner Memorial winner leads the series with five heat race
victories and has eleven top-10 finishes and forty-two feature laps led on the
season. Wes will have his sights set on adding a Tulare main event victory to
his resume.
Visalia's Jace VanderWeerd is fourth in the standings. On September 24th, the
driver of the family owned #88 VanderWeerd Construction / Battery Worx Maxim
scored a nineteenth place finish. Last year's USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has
one feature win, one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, one heat race victory,
eleven top-10 finishes, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award, and fourteen main
event laps led to his credit. VanderWeerd will be looking to rebound with a
30-lap feature victory at Tulare.
Dennis Howell of Rancho Palos Verdes sits fifth in the point standings. Piloting
the family owned #62 San Pedro Auto Body / Howell-Meyer Racing Maxim, Dennis had
one of his best finishes of the year with a second place run. The USAC Western
Midget Series graduate has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, three heat
race victories, two Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Awards, and eleven top-10
finishes on the year. This Saturday, Howell have his eyes set on his first
feature victory of the year.
Campbell's Bud Kaeding, Peter Murphy of Clovis, Tipton's "Hollywood" Danny Faria
Jr., and "Showtime" Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria have also claimed feature wins
in 2011. Kaeding is tied with Bernal for the series lead with four victories and
Murphy won Tulare's 30-lap main event on April 30th. Faria won the "Jim Evett
Memorial" at Hanford on July 16th and Sheridan claimed the "Bud Stanfield
Memorial" at Santa Maria on September 17th. After the Tulare event, the USAC
West Coast 360s will return to action the following Saturday, October 15th, at
Hanford's Cotton Classic in a special non-point event.
Among the other top contenders expected to be in action are Gardena's Greg
Alexander, Hanford's Justyne Hamblin, T.J. Smith of Fresno, and Kerman's Davey
Pombo. In addition, Hanford's Jonathan Logan, Ricky Kirkbride of Bakersfield,
and more should be on hand to battle for the victory.
The Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County
Fairgrounds at the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare, California.

The American Kart Show
By Bruce C. Walls
CHARLOTTE, N. C. - Just when it seemed that there would be no winter trade show
for four-cycle oval kart racers this year American Kart
Racing Association (AKRA) CEO/President Bill McCutcheon has saved the day.
McCutcheon recently announced plans for ‘The American Karting Show presented by AKRA’ this winter scheduled for January 19-21 at Metrolina Tradeshow Expo in Charlotte, N.C.
“The focus of this trade show will be ‘Getting Back to Basics,’ McCutcheon explained adding, “We’ll have low exhibit fees, free Wi-Fi, free parking, $5 show tickets (kids under 5 free), and a swap-meet area.
McCutcheon also pointed out that this is strictly a tradeshow and that
There won’t be any races affiliated with the show. “One of the things we learned at last year’s show was that every time races were announced the trade floor emptied into the stands to watch races leaving paying exhibiters with only a small crowd of customers looking at their products.”
There will also be Box Stock Engine tech seminars by Jimmy Sims of, ‘The Box Stock Project’ explaining how the relatively new Box Stock OHV engines will be teched according to AKRA rules. Sims will also take questions on the Box Stock engines.
“We will start
taking booth reservations on Wednesday August 31 for vendors. All booths will be
on a first come first serve basis,” McCutcheon said. “You may make initial
reservations by phone or by email. Your calls and emails will be kept in the
order of receipt for booth placement. The phone number to call is 704.764.8138
or e-mail us
at: billmcfast@aol.com. This event
is being presented by AKRA and we will be your number one contact.”

(please pass on this press release to all your e-mail contacts)
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- Saturday, October 8 K-C Raceway will host the final “Warm up
to the DTWC” featuring AMRA Late Models at $2,000 to win / $200 to start, and
the AMRA Road Warrior Advanced Services Modifieds paying $1,200 to win along
with Hobby Stocks ! Last week rain postponed the event. The fun-filled evening
will be a significant factor in determining the 2011 track champions as tight
battles prevail across the board in all divisions. K-C’s last sprint race saw
Danny Smith take the track championship over Jimmy Nier in a race that Powell,
Ohio’s Todd Kane won.
The American Motor Racing Association season is winding down and another exciting racing season is now, even more so, climbing to a dramatic climax. The AMRA national Points' title has been decided with Kenny Johnson narrowly claiming the title over Andy Bond 1240 to 1223. The Road Warrior Challenge series title is also ultra close. Additionally, some thirty-plus drivers are vying for money positions in the AMRA standings. Plans are in the works to possibly reward drivers not in the top 30 with contingency prizes. More details on that will be announced soon, along with banquet information. The Banquet will be Saturday, November 12.
K-C Raceway will host the AMRA Road Warriors Saturday, Oct. 8 in the season finale for the AMRA Road Warrior Challenge series. Also on the card will be Late Models and Hobby Stocks. Not only is this event important in the realm of the AMRA points, but also the event will be a final prelude to the Dirt Track World Championship modified event, coming October 13,14, and 15. Also the DTWC pays $3,000 to the winner. The AMRA would like to thank all participants in this year's banner season. The organization is working on rules and ideas for next year. An anticipated release date of late October is in the works.
Because AMRA Late Model Points have ended, Late Model drivers DO NOT have to purchase an AMRA License, however, Modified drivers must abide by AMRA licensing requirements. Late Models, however, will run under the AMRA rules package.
The grand-daddy of
mega-races, the Dirt Track World Championship or DTWC, will come to town October

“WILD CARDS” PROVIDE WILD FINISHES AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (10/2/11) – It was “Wild Card” day at the U.S. 13
Dragway which allowed drivers that had purchased a wild card to play that card
and remain in eliminations after a loss. Most of the drivers were able to save
their wild cards to the final rounds providing a lot of late round racing. In
the end, it was Vernon Russell, Sr. of Dover, Del. continuing his dream season
with the win in Super Pro. Keith Mayers of Fruitland, Md. topped the Pro final
while Brent English of Bloxom, Va. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on
the day included: Gary Stickler of Delmar, Md. in Street; Mike Paolone of
Salisbury, Md. in Bike Trophy; Ryan Jackson of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and
Kody Mariner of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2.
The Super Pro final was anti-climatic as Russell was supposed to face Ben Parks
of Salisbury. However, Parks had experienced mechanical problems following his
Semi-final win and was unable to make it to the starting line for the final.
Russell was able to stage and simply trip the lights to get the win. In the
